Jason Grace, so much potential...

Actually this goes for the entire lost trio. The AMOUNT of TRAUMA these three had and the potential for character development they had too is UNREAL, yet nothing was done. Let us begin my personal beliefs

Leo:

-Delve into his trauma of his remaining family deciding he was the devil at age EIGHT and refusing to take him in-abandonment issues

-Have his constant feelings of invalid-ness and being the unneeded member of the seven be corrected by giving him CLOSE FRIENDS HE PIPER AND JASON NEED TO BE CLOSER AT THE VERY LEAST and conversations when he realizes he is wanted and needed

-Don't have Calypso storyline in there-he didn't need a girlfriend to solve his problems, if you have it, have it as good friends-another member of his support group

-Make him gay and have valgrace or slowburn/implied valgrace(the two of them pining then like kinda tragic as Leo dies)

Piper:

-Have her lesbian storyline occur in HoO where she's a main character-it's an important storyline for her character that deserves a spotlight and time that ToA couldn't give it

-No Jiper! This relationship was toxic and founded on fake memories-if you're going to do it, do it as a part of her LGBTQIA+ journey and Jason's as well

-Don't have her demonize femininity! She can wear dresses! She can wear makeup! She can present more feminine and still be the same character and her hatred of any and all things feminine is not good representation! Make her a feminist, please! Or at least make her less against femininity as a whole.

-No kaleidoscope eyes! Give her brown eyes and also have her rediscovering her culture storyline as a part of HoO too!

Jason:

-Make him a better fighter than Percy. He has been at Camp Jupiter since the age of three and spent a year with wolves before then. He has spent his entire life in a military setting training, he should be a better swordfighter than Percy 'I show up to summer camp at age 12 to 16 and only really use my sword then' Jackson.

-Give him more powers. Or Percy less. Children of the big three should be equal in potential power, not Percy being OP and the others having lightning or shadows powers some of the time. Percy needs less power and Jason, Thalia, Hazel, and Nico need more. Jason should have more power than Percy as he has had longer to train it.

-Give him a personality. His storyline in HoO should be a journey of self-discovery. He has always been another member of an army, with constant pressure on him to be the best at everything and a strong confident leader who doesn't make mistakes as a son of Jupiter. His entire life has been dictated by those around him. For the first time, he is free of that and he needs to be discovering things like how he likes to dress, his style, his sexuality, his likes and dislikes, and his personality. In my opinion he should be kinda shy with a feral edge, side effect of the wolves, who is always trying to people please. When he stops doing this, he becomes significantly happier and a greater use to the team. Plus valgrace;D.

-Also, make him despise Percy at the beginning. He worked his entire life to be an afterthought that nobody looked for when he went missing for months, while Percy was looked for by everyone after only a few days. Percy achieved everything he wanted in a matter of weeks in New Rome and he was happy and had friends and a life. Percy has everything Jason doesn't. They need to have a moment where they are locked together and Percy goes "why do you hate me" and Jason breaks down because "You have everything I want and you don't even have to try!". This would create a better relationship for them and be the turning point for Jason as Percy hears what he has to say and validates him. Also Jason personality.

-Don't kill him off and continue his self-discovery journey in ToA.

-Make him and Thalia have a closer relationship that in the months between TLH and TSoN, it is implied that they spend time together. He should feel safe with her and they needed more interactions as they are SIBLINGs, god damit.

-Make him and Reyna just friends-she wanted to look for him but couldn't 'cause Octavian(the bitch) and someone needed to be Praetor in his absence.

-Also give him history with Octavian-ex-friends or something give me drama.

It was Father's day semi recently, so I wrote this. Note: it is very important to me that every one who reads this understands that I didn't actually write this on Father's Day. I swear!

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" A voice sung to you, dragging you from the depths of oblivion you found solace in. The sound of opening curtains cut into you like a knife.

"Mmmghhh..." You attempted, keeping your eyes firmly closed against the rising sun blaring into your eyeballs. Couldn't he just go away? You stared blearily. Clark Kent, or rather, Superman was smiling, a beaming ray that burnt into you.

"Come on now, Sunshine. It's Father's Day! Aren't you excited to spend it with your dad?"

No, is what you wanted to say. But you bit the comment down as you often did. It never helped, not with Bruce, not with Clark. How unfair.

"You couldn't have let me sleep for a little longer?" You tried, almost whining. First they use ‘medicine’ to get you to sleep, then they force you to wake up early.

"Sorry but that won't be happening. We only have limited time with you today! We have to enjoy as much time together as we can before you go to Bruce's." He looked apologetic, but you doubted it. He never truly was.

Your life with Superman was an endless spiral of apologies, a litany of white lies hidden by a brilliant smile. A sun that shone so brightly, you almost forgot the burns.

You gave a little sigh, but acknowledged the futility of your actions. A few years of this and you let go of resisting the little things. It made things easier.

You got out of your bed, doing your best to ignore the fervent eyes that traced your every movement. You reached under your bed, pulling out his present from under your bed. It wasn't much of a hiding space, given that it was known by every person that lived in the house, but you appreciated that they let you have little things like this. Or pretended to, anyways.

“Here you go.” You thrust the present towards him, wanting to get it over with.

“That’s Bruce’s present.” He replied, with a slight smirk.

“Eh.. how?” You mumbled, looking down. “You peaked, didn't you!”

“No I didn't not. I just know the difference between your wrapping, and Alfred’s wrapping.”

You glanced down, noticing the immaculately decorated and wrapped present in your grasp. Whoops.

With a swift movement, you reached under your bed and grasped the other present, exchanging the two with a quick action. There was a visible difference in the two, Clark’s being much more shoddily wrapped.

“Forget about that.” You demanded. Trying to get him to ignore it, you pushed his actual present in his direction.

“Woah, hold on there.” He smiled. “Jon’s been waiting downstairs to give me his present too, you two have to do it together, remember.” He patted you on the back. “Come on!”

With your frustrated affirmation, the two of you went downstairs, immediately meeting the excited gazes of both Lois and Jon. Jon in particular was bouncing in his seat, clutching onto a bunch of gifts.

“Happy Father’s day!” He shouted, a beaming smile on his face. Clark chucked, patting Jon’s hair.

“Thank you Jon.” The two began a conversation about Jon’s gifts, and you swiftly became bored. Your eyes strayed away from the table, until you accidentally locked eyes with Lois. She smiled at you, a soft image of happiness. She was definitely the most subtle of the family. It even took you a few escape attempts before you realised she wasn't your ally. After that it became difficult to see her the same way.

“And what about you, sunshine?” A hand ruffled your hair, Clark interrupting your musings with a single gesture. You bit back a flinch.

“Ah yeah, this is my present… Dad.” You attempted to sound jovial. Judging by the smile on his face it had worked, but you weren't entirely sure if that was a result of your actions skills or his delusions.

“Thank you! Let’s see what you've made this year.” Clark took no time in unwrapping the gift. “Ah, another mug, and just look at this drawing, you get more creative every time.” He beamed. You felt like living in this household half the time entitled you to sunglasses.

Your gift wasn't anything fancy, just a simple mug with a terribly drawn face on it. The words ‘happy dad’ were written under the face, in sloppy handwriting.

Clark walked over to a cabinet, opening it up. In the cabinet lay another mug, this one lacking any drawing at all. Instead, it had the name Clark written on and drawn out, and the word Dad swiftly smudged on instead.

That mug was actually one of Clark’s old mugs, you had just stolen it upon learning that they had actually expected a gift from you on Father’s Day. You originally wrote Clark down, but soon realised that would be a mistake, crossing it out and writing Dad. Somehow, he loved it.

In all honesty, you couldn't complain. If you set the bar this low, you could easily up it the next year without having to put in much effort. As long as you were ‘creative’ Clark accepted anything, if it was from you. Maybe next year your mug drawing would be two drawings, instead of one. You dreaded the time when you'd eventually have to put actual effort into gifts. Surely, you'd have escaped before then.

“Come on kids!” Clark called out, drawing your attention back to him. “Let’s enjoy today as much as we can, before Sunshine has to go to Wayne Manor later.”

Jon pouted. “Do they really have to go? They went last year too. They already spent half their time at Wayne Manor as is.” He grumbled. Jon was more obvious in his possessiveness, something that occasionally ruffled the feathers of the Batfam. The tug of war between Jon and Damian was far too frequent, the memory of it making your shoulders ache a little.

“Now now Jon. Bruce is Sunshine’s father just as much as I am.”

Considering neither of them were your father, his statement was a little infuriating.

“What game are we going to play this time?” Your question was both an act of masochism and genuine interest. Feigning injuries never worked against two superhumans who could look into your very bone structure. Instead, you had come to find some enjoyment in watching Clark and Jon bumble about, trying to play fair in a competitive game wherein they viewed you as both weaker and fragile. It was actually a great method for venting your anger, as long as you weren't too overt about it.

If you accidentally hit them with a hockey stick a few times, or aimed a basketball to their face a little too much, it wasn't your fault! It's not like they could feel it anyway.

“It'll be tennis today.” Clark declared, receiving an excited Ooh in response from Jon.

Ah, tennis. A little harder to use, but very much still workable. If it was golf you'd be screwed.

Oh, wait but..

“How are we playing tennis with three people?” You questioned. Lois tended to stay out of your games, preferring to watch.

“I'll play against you and Jon. If any of Bruce’s family show up early again, then one of them can join in too.” Clark spoke cheerfully, but you knew it always bothered him a bit when they arrived too soon.

Clark and Bruce’s ‘shared custody’ of you wasn't always so amicable. At one point it was downright violent. Honestly if it weren't for the effects their efforts were having on you they'd have probably escalated into a war. They had come to an agreement since, but it always bothered them whenever it was infringed on in some form.

“Time to get going Sunshine! Jon’s already waiting for you!” An abrupt push to your back jolted you forward, giving you a small jump of shock. Ugh. You glared at Superman as he responded to your surprise with good natured laughter.

You slowly walked out into the field, Jon handing you a tennis racket, his smile gleaming like the sun.

You could only hope that Batman was a little calmer on Father’s Day.

hi! sorry this took so long to answer, but i hope it was worth the wait.

i am including two rating systems, one for how invested i am in the pair, and the other for how functional their relationship is

kanamafu:

kanamafu is interesting, because they are arguably the basis for every other pairing. niigo begins with kanamafu, however, i don’t believe it has to end with them. they’re a really sweet couple at times, but they still have a lot to work on. see, at the beginning, kanade and mafuyu are less of a genuine friendship and more a transactional partnership. they make music together, until one day kanade realizes mafuyu is in need of “saving”, and it all spirals from there. kanade’s savior complex feeds off of mafuyu, but mafuyu gets something out of it too: when she’s with kanade, she feels this sensation of warmth in her chest that she begins to crave.

despite everything, it’s actually not a very personal dynamic. kanade has yet to truly know mafuyu, and even after the main story, she lacks a lot of knowledge about her family and her personal dreams. but so does mafuyu, and they can discover these things together! i think their relationship is at its best when kanade isn’t so focused on saving mafuyu, but rather discovering who she is and what she loves. that part of their story is heartwarming.

present day, it’s undeniable these two have built a close bond together. they’re a partnership, but it’s not solely about saving and being saved. they care for one another, and that card scene of them in the rain together is one of my favorite moments in the entire game. they still have a lot to work through, and i think kanade especially isn’t capable of being in a completely healthy relationship right now. but still, they love each other so much, and that love will carry them through their hardships! i think they need other people too, which is why pairings that don’t involve the two of them together tend to be my favorites.

it gets a 5/10 on the “personally interesting to me” scale, and a 5/10 on the “is this be a functional relationship” scale

mizuena:

these two had me in an absolute chokehold until maybe last fall, and they are still everything to me. even if they aren’t my favorite romantic pairing anymore, they are the kind of friendship everyone needs at least once in their lives.

what’s better than two fashion-obsessed “girly girls” who love to banter? how about a secret that slowly tears them apart, as one of them loosens the thread connecting their hearts every single day, while the other tugs it towards herself begging (softly) to be let in? yeah there was no universe where i was ever normal about these two.

thinking about how ena, a natural born fighter, shows extreme emotional maturity with mizuki. and how mizuki wants to love her, but ultimately chooses to lie. it’s tragic, but one day. when we get our secret reveal. ena is going to take mizuki’s hand and tell her everything is alright, and she doesn’t have to worry about losing her anymore. and they are going to have a grand lesbian makeout sesh

personal investment: 8.5/10

functional relationship capacity: like a 7/10, a 10/10 post-secret reveal

mafuena:

now it’s time for my personal favorite. mafuena knocked on my door uninvited in 2023 and i haven’t gone back since. i always had some interest in the pairing as friends, because their dynamic was very unique in the main story. they had a rocky start that couldn’t compare to any other niigo friendship, and i was enthralled. but i didn’t quite believe they could date for a long time.

this wish will transcend the morning sky was our first real mafuena event, and it did not disappoint. ena using her dad’s fame to win mrs. asahina’s approval immediately cemented itself as one of my favorite ena moments, because it shows just how selfless she can be, despite popular fandom opinion at the time.

and then one day i was mulling over how important mafuena is from a narrative standpoint. they are the perfect parallels to each other, with both of them possessing exactly what the other wants. mafuyu has the popularity, acclaim, and expectations that ena has dreamed about for years. and how could she be so selfish to throw that all away, when others are dying to be in her position? ena has real passion and the means to chase after it. to someone like mafuyu, who has been a slave to others desires for years, she can’t even imagine that freedom.

and i think that’s why they’re so perfect for each other! they struggle to understand each other on so many different levels, but they also fill in the gaps for each other. ena needs someone to be real with her, to not sugarcoat or validate her for no reason. truth be told, she needs reality checks sometimes, but she also is the perfect candidate for the harsh kindness only mafuyu can provide. and mafuyu needs someone to push her in the right direction, to make her question what she really wants. they both encourage each other to be selfish in the best way possible.

i fucking love mafuena

personal investment: 10/10

functional relationship capacity: like a 7 to be honest

kanamizu:

kanamizu is also quite interesting because it is the least “personal” niigo dynamic. if you were to tally up how many times niigo characters have meaningful interactions with each other i feel like kanamizu would fall near or at the bottom. but they still have a very neat and under-appreciated friendship! just because they aren’t each others “person” doesn’t mean they don’t love and care for each other.

both of them are helpers, but they are kind of opposites in this area. mizuki tries to help mafuyu in practical ways, offering advice whenever she can. but she feels inadequate, like she isn’t equipped to give life advice when she herself is struggling to open up to her friends. meanwhile kanade is more focused on saving mafuyu through her music. what she hasn’t realized yet, is that things such as opening her home for mafuyu and comforting her after running away are much better ways of helping of mafuyu than “saving her” ever will be. she doesn’t tend to question this aspect of herself like mizuki does. she’s emotionally intelligent when it comes to others, but struggles to self reflect when her savior complex gets in the way. it clouds her vision.

basically what i’m getting at is mizuki and kanade are the most attentive niigo members, and they have more compassion for others than themselves. i would love to see more focus on how their methods of helping mafuyu intersect, since we’ve really only heard mizuki briefly talk about it.

also aesthetically these two are amazing. soft pinks and white with flower fields and rain i am ALL over it. i want mizuki to take kanade shopping, and i also want her to help kanade get an autism diagnosis. she is the best candidate for this since her childhood best friend also has autism

personal investment: 6/10

FRC: i don’t know about romantically, but as friends they are solid. an 8/10

kanaena:

any pairing with ena in it automatically qualifies as a good ship to me. kanaena is no exception!

i think ena is the closest kanade has come to saving someone so far. ena has undergone huge character development since proseka’s launch, and it’s thanks to kanade that she was able to start that journey. kanade was the first person in years to look at her art and see potential, which made ena reevaluate the worth she had assigned to her own creations.

presently, kanade’s attitude towards ena holds her back just a little. she wants to provide ena with a constant stream of validation for her art, which is good for keeping ena on the right path, but ultimately will not help her grow as an artist and person.

this does not make kanade a bad friend! she’s trying her best to save ena in her own way, but her methods are counterproductive. these two clearly care for each other a lot, and ena def has a crush on her lol. whenever she jumps to defend kanade it is the cutest thing ever. they have a very wholesome relationship that is entirely built around making each other smile <3. but are they going to push each other in the same way ena and mafuyu do? probably not anytime soon.

overall, i love these two, but i doubt they could be in a functional (romantic) relationship just due to ena relying so much on kanade’s attention

FRC: like a 5/10

mizumafu:

last but certainly not least, mizumafu! i am going to say right now, i used to not care much about this pair compared to other niigo ships, but they have really climbed the ladder recently! after our escape for survival, i realized the potential these two have to help each other out. (their color palette and personality contrast is just mwah chefs kiss too).

as i already mentioned, mizuki is mafuyu’s biggest practical helper. following the realization of how similar their identity struggles are (in marionette), mizuki was always a bit… weird when mafuyu’s troubles were brought up. she always did her best to help, but it was clearly she felt like a fraud, a phony if you will, trying to be there for mafuyu while going through the same thing.

this becomes most apparent in our escape for survival. at this point, niigo is running out of options to help mafuyu, and it forces mizuki to be more transparent than she has the entirety of their friendship. i cried the first time i read mizuki telling mafuyu “it’s okay to run away”. that was mizuki baring her entire fucking soul just to coax mafuyu into the right decision. it doesn’t seem like much, but to mizuki this is a huge deal. running away is the only reason she’s still here, and she isn’t really sure whether she’s fit to, but she offers that to mafuyu anyways. insane.

of course the imposter syndrome and the looming stress from her secret is still there, but mizuki continues to help mafuyu in any way she can. she’s literally in love. not to mention their one-sided banter is always hilarious. especially when mafuyu cuts in with one of her biting comments that you can’t really tell whether she means as an insult or not.

OKAY SO THE ANSWER IS A BIT NUANCED FOR THIS ONE

Technically, Grian and Pearl were Spawned in rather than born, so they arent actually related. That being said, culturally speaking since being born is INCREDIBLY rare as opposed to being Spawned in, i think its fairly common and accepted practice to just go "yeag thats my sibling" about people you're incredibly close to sometimes. This ofc doesnt even BEGIN to get into the entire concept of play on an universal level, and how often people will i think claim siblinghood for one server only to completely disavow it in another. Which is... not very helpful as far as answers go, when you get down to it 😅😅😅

I think for Pearl and Grian, they dont really call each other siblings, but their relationship is very consistently sibling-like, which i think actually holds more weight in-universe than just arbitrarily calling themselves family would. So... yes and no??? Not related, probably wouldnt directly call each other siblings, but i think they both have the silent understanding that they are very much each other's chosen family, if that makes sense!!

Backstory:

Cynthia grew up in the Shaftlands with only her mother. Neighbors to a decently wealthy family, Cynthia frequently spent time at their household while her mother went out to work. The neighbors, the Ordelia family, had two daughters. A girl named Adeline (who Cynthia calls Adelia), the younger of the two, was about to Cynthia’s lifelong friend.

To help her mother and also be able to follow her dreams of entering the law field, Cynthia received Adelia’s help with her studies to try to get into the two most prestigious schools on Sage Island. Through Adelia’s crazily strict yet admittedly useful studying regime, she was able to proudly show off the two acceptance letters, a sign that she had truly worked as hard as she could.

Cynthia spent days mulling over which school she would enter. She even did a mandatory coin toss just in case she still hadn’t decided by the due date. Adelia wouldn’t say a single word on where she would go, but since Cynthia knew of Adelia’s competence, she believed Adelia would be able follow Cynthia, no matter which school she would choose.

Oh, so how tragic the betrayal is~! How traitorous for Adelia to abandon Cynthia and enter her school’s ultimate rival. The pain, the misery—

“Cynthia, stop being dramatic. Just because I could follow you never meant I would have. And didn’t you say being rivals was, quote, ‘actually pretty fun’ last week?”

She’s so beloved to me actually!! I’ve made several edits of her bc i have enough art to edit her to some 4/4 beat music. Tmi, you don’t know what I’m talking about probably. THE POINT IS THAT I LOVE HER. Sometimes I forget that she’s actually smart though because she acts like someone who gets straight Bs and possibly Cs, but she’s a straight A student!! Her role in twst is. It’s mostly based around as a sort of helper to Adelia, who’s trying to piece together everything wrong with NRC (because justice. Cynthia just wants to know because she likes knowing things). Her best friend in RSA is Che’nya, who she just followed out of RSA for funsies and realized it was a good way to talk to Adelia and actually experience the weird NRC experience. Usually, though, most information comes from phone calls to each other, which they do nearly every day.

General gist is it has imaginary friend-like beings called spirits (what TWST!Cynthia’s unique magic is based on) and isekai/going back in time and it’s ALSO about going back home vs adapting here (like most otome isekais are). I won't lie, the most common victims i've noticed of this are women. but the flawed women are typically demonised, whereas the men are typically turned into uwu baby boys who actually aren't capable of doing anything wrong and then fanon goes nuts making them into ittle wittle victims. and I'm so fucking sick of all of it, I hate this. lbr the panthers clinched that win when they brought out Roberto Luongo to do the pregame drum thing. There is no better motivator for that team. That was essentially management doing the simpsons “do it for her” meme

I lost my absolute fucking mind during the Sam Reinhart eventual cup-winning goal; not because of anything Reinhart did, but because of Dmitry Kulikov. It was one of my favorite types of plays: he fucking swiped a goal out of his own crease and then they immediately went down to the other end to score. That’s a fucking two-goal swing, because of him. My head was spinning over this play. Honestly I personally believe this play even more than the goal was what won them the Stanley Cup. (Along with some sick plays from Bobrovsky.)

If you look closely as the final clock ran out you could see Sam Reinhart like inching his way towards Bobrovsky so that he could be there to hug him first lol

there have been some gentle moments!! despite everything, there have been a few good moments this month :) including cat cuddles. i have gotten so much cat cuddles and boy did i need it.

the Horrors. man. i have now MOSTLY acquired my car! unfortunately there was a mix-up while at the bank which means i have to go back again tomorrow, and to the dealer as well, BUT the dealer was very VERY nice and he let me ""borrow"" the car i'm buying since he knew i was actively without a car right now. so the car is parked outside!! i get to drive it!! i have it now!! i just have to finish up with all the financing stuff :') and also with dealing with my sad little VW rip

the rest of the Horrors........ well. i've mostly only talked about my car here bc it's the only one that i can have any like actual control over and it's the only one where it's like "ok this is an issue and this is how it gets solved and all of these things are achievable" so i've been making myself put most of my focus on it since it IS the only issue this month that i CAN solve. the rest is stuff that. sigh. 2 of my family members died this month, one of which was my last living grandparent. and it sucks!! and my mom is currently halfway across the country having to deal with all of the paperwork and logistics of that more-or-less alone.

i know my job has bereavement leave, and i have been deeply considering figuring out how to use it so that i can go see my mom and give her some support. but i can't afford time without pay so i need to figure out if it's paid or not. OUGH.

but SOME good! like my new car being so fucking funny to me. it has push to start. it has android auto. it is so fancy. also it has roll-up windows. and little knobs for the side mirrors. i die. the contrast. her name is also Tails in honor of my favorite Sonic character. and she will be getting flower magnets.
