was reading a fic just now that had a line about how "Mandalorians would never allow personal feelings to stand in the way of the greater good for their clans and Mandalore" and I tell you I laughed out loud
I too love playing with the mandos as fun toys and I'm all for a re-imagining of canon but it is really funny to me when someone decides to take the canon "I will Enact Violence for my Personal Feelings and Honor To the Detriment and Ruin of my World" group and tells me that actually they are the exact opposite. Directly comparable to the Jedi, in fact, for how well they are able to discard personal feelings for the greater good.
sometimes it's really interesting to see how hard fanon has taken hold. fyi I do like this author and follow their fics and I'd never say this to them tbh bc they can do what they want!! (they're also not anti-jedi about it, which puts them one up on many).
but I just find the complete dichotomy between the canon representation and the fanon lionization pretty funny.
#this is not intended to be a big serious post it was just too polar opposite not to comment on#wonder sometimes if people actually view them this way?#is it the fanon contagion?#bc i cannot think of what canon material would lead you to that conclusion#to be fair theyre depicting a mandalore under jaster mereel so maybe theyre trying to contrast against the later civil war#but you're still leaving out an entire faction there#passion is like. the name of the game even for the new mandalorians. even if it hurts them! and others!#not really intended as crit bc they arent hurting anyone and theyre clearly having a fun time#and so am i!#just an interesting phenomena and it was laid out SO explicitly in print

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

I just think everyone should take a moment to consider the question "what is your visual shorthand for cruelty?" and then follow it up with a critical "and who taught you that?"
specific examples include but are not limited to
why is an evil timeline character design disabled? (why do the heroes go through equally punishing battles and never lose an arm, a leg, an eye?)
why are the futuristic scifi terrorists uniformly darker skinned? (why are the heroes so much lighter?)
why is the greedy boss fat? (why are the heroes skinny?)
why is the criminal mastermind heavily scarred? (why is the brooding, traumatized hero unscathed?)
why is the predatory creep a bearded person in a dress and makeup? (why are none of the heroes trans women?)
who taught you that this is how things are?
how long do you plan on repeating it?

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
