really disappointing that bunjywunjy had to be pestered twice just to quietly remove their reblog after using their huge platform to encourage garbage like raving about the lesbian estonian soviet flag and how 'new pride flag just dropped' so people could go 'ooh pretty' about a flag that was forced onto us by ppl who wanted our culture gone and oppressed us for about a century in total if not more.

to say nothing or not show anything of the truth about that flag and quietly remove the reblog felt more like it was done out of obligation (and you didn't agree) rather than care for the subject matter that is still a fresh wound in our country's memory. it's only been 33 years since it ended.

I'd rather you make the mistake about something you didn't know (eastern european history is easy for westeners to overlook, because we're not a big country like them, we're not england or france or spain or germany) and admit/apologize for said mistake or even just outright state that you don't actually care rather than say nothing and quietly remove something so that people would stop talking about it

I recently watched the trailer for OFMD season 2 and was suddenly struck by the tangible difference between OFMD and Good Omens. I'll start off by saying that I'm definitely more into GO than OFMD--though I've seen all of the episodes (so far) of each--but there is something about OFMD that I think really sets it apart from GO 2, which is that OFMD doesn't apologize for its queerness, whereas GO still does.

(It should go without saying, but this does not apply to Michael and David, whom I feel solidly fall under the category of being entirely unapologetic in portraying Aziraphale and Crowley and their relationship.)

But articles like this (which Neil actually had the cojones to share recently) that claim homophobia "doesn't exist" in Good Omens entirely miss the point, which is that it does exist in the world of GO--Shadwell calling Aziraphale a "southern pansy," for instance--and that Michael and David are showing these characters to be who they are in the face of homophobia in the form of religious repression. And while homophobia exists in OFMD as well, GO clings to a sense of nicety, of apologizing to the straight audience Neil is still aiming to reach, whereas OFMD does not care one bit about appealing to a straight audience.

OFMD is unafraid to tell a straight audience "This is not for you. You can enjoy it all you like, but we are not doing this for your approval." In OFMD, you have characters of every flavor of queerness who are just able to be who they are, without having a label affixed or checking a box (lesbians, enby folks, gay people, and so on). The actors are able to define the characters in their own unique ways--Jim with a beard drawn on with kohl, Wee John dressed as Divine in drag--so that being queer is not the main focus of who the characters are, but rather what allows them to be who they are, and the audience is trusted to understand that. I do not feel that this is the case with GO, and the result is constant fighting and policing over pronouns and identities, despite the fact that none of it would matter at all if people stopped relying on Neil to define the characters for them.

Yes, I know they're very different shows and characters. But watching the trailer for OFMD 2, I didn't feel like I had to worry about being disappointed, or that I had to search for the queer representation, because it was already there...

So is that awful and ill placed and thought out daddy kink joke supposed to be a set up for Buck season 8?? For Buck actually exploring his trauma around his father and around Bobby??

Is it supposed to be the set up for Buck realising he is still on the hamster wheel of relationships where he’s in it for the emotional connection and his partner is only in it for sex?

Is that what this is - because I have spent my night trying to figure out what other reason there could possibly be for dropping that ‘joke’ at that moment and making that scene weird?

Buck is clearly more invested in the relationship than Tommy is - you can see Buck is still invested and engaged in his first queer relationship - that he’s still a bit starry eyed over Tommy - but that scene was screaming Abby 2.0 at me - Tommys behaviour was very similar to Abby’s in my opinion.

And while I’m not mad at that as a concept - Tommy being similar to Abby makes a fair amount of sense - in the same way she helped move Buck from playboy to relationship material (I maintain the playboy persona was a mask and coping mechanism for his loneliness) Tommy is helping him move from straight to queer - unlocking another part of himself.

But if that is the case - that scene - that set up - was just not it.

Every other main had at least a fair hint of what there arc will be for season 8, but Buck didn’t really - yes it was made clear he’ll be there for Eddie (and Chris) but that journey is Eddie’s not Bucks - Buck had no hint of an arc for himself so I’m left trying to figure out what they’re doing with him and this is where I’m at.

I'm not enough of a book purist to not being able to enjoy headcanons, crackships etc (as a matter of fact I do love them). But seeing newbies unironically and completely serious considering aemond to "trying to be the perfect son", or "heleana is the people's princess" or "rhaenyra is calm, collected and strategic", "Daemon is the family's clown, the agent of chaos" legit gives me a headache because they are nothing like that.

And I'm not talking about ppl writing fanfics with this type of characterization, but ppl legit having takes based on the terrible portrayal of the show. And even when they go to read f&b they still have the image the show gave them because they don't seem capable of letting go.

it just feels like Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen character assassination all of again.
