sorry but i actually love that season three of yellowjackets turns the viewers' expecation of shauna on their mf heads. since the first season, shauna is our focal character, the one we see the most and know the most about in the present timeline, with the teen post-crash timeline informing how/why she came to be the way she is 25 years later.

through season 1, we THINK that shauna is unhappy in her adult life because of the way she fell to the wayside, lost in jackie's shadow. we THINK that she starts her affair with adam because she's bored with the stagnancy of her life, but after 19 months of life or death survival in the wilderness, any semblance of safety and normalcy would be mind numbingly boring. adult shauna is a stay at home mom. she collects ceramic bunnies and goes to yearly birthday lunches with her dead best friend's parents. it doesn't always read that she has the capacity for cruelty within her, but it's always been there. we see that immediately in the adult timeline as shauna has no qualms about killing the rabbit thats in her garden and preparing it like she would with any other game meat (HOW she killed said rabbit also speaks to her cruelty...bluntly with a shovel, rather than slicing its throat like we see in the wilderness). teen shauna's capacity for cruelty is revealed slower, with the pressure building as shauna fucks her best friend's boyfriend and becomes pregnant with his baby. as she lies to jackie, fights with her, and pushes her away (ultimately leading to jackie's very preventable death, as even taissa points out that jackieshauna's squabbling could be resolved if only she Talked To Her). this capacity for cruelty is then overshadowed by the strength of her grief, which informs the bulk of her season 2 characterization.

in season two, we THINK that adult shauna's actions can be explained by the deep amount of grief she felt at the loss of jackie. and the guilt she holds knowing that she could have saved jackie if not for her own stubbornness, her own cruelty. which is all true! shauna's grief is only heightened by the complications of her pregnancy (re: months of starvation / jackie for dinner / belt soup / starling stew all not providing enough nutrients for neither shauna nor the baby) and the loss of her firstborn child (who is unfairly deified by lottie and her wilderness cult because they, like shauna, are looking for a way to persist through the horrors that they are forced to survive). the psychological fake-out of shauna Feeling and Sensing her child, but not being able to physically reach him or comfort him. similarly to how she Feels and Senses jackie despite not being able to physically reach her. so shauna sits out there in the meat shed with jackie, playing MASH and doing her makeup and talking her literal ear off trying to ignore that she was who put jackie there. and taissa? poor taissa's well-meaning, pragmatic attempt at helping shauna go through the motions of grieving by laying jackie to rest via cremation goes horribly awry when The Wilderness 'decides' that feasting on jackie is the only way for the yellowjackets to stay alive. and if grieving jackie isn't bad enough for shauna, she loses one child and then is forced to butcher another. javi was a little boy!!! and was clearly shauna's surrogate brother/son figure in season 1!! so YEAH, if i just ate my best friend in a not-fun-gay-way, lost my wilderness pregnancy but hallucinated that i didnt (and also hallucinated/dreamt that my teammates helping me through labor ATE said baby because that's something that they Do Now) ((also x 2, if my whole soccer team saw my v*gina i'd become evil too lbr)), then had to carve up and eat one of the few people i had the ability to feel soft/protective towards, i think i too would be Not Doing Well!!!!!

so yeah, in the months before season three, i am absolutely not surprised that shauna's unchecked grief has turned into anger. months and months of lottie's religious fanaticism asserting that the loss of the baby was a sacrifice to the wilderness that brought on the miracle of spring is incredibly dismissive to shauna's experience with pregnancy and grief/loss. we see in season 2 that lottie (and others) had attached themselves to the baby as a factor to motivate their survival, but lottie always took it one step further, claiming group parentage (ownership? of "our baby" aka shauna's baby, aka the team's motivation to survive). as lottie's mental state continues to deteriorate, her dedication to the wilderness, its messages, and its sacrifices reaches a new level of intensity (as proven by her consistent attempts to sway travis and akilah into connecting with 'it', even when both characters voiced their concern about the potential dangers). of course shauna wants nothing to do with the summer solstice ceremony, even when she is being honored as The Mother of The Child. she doesn't want to be honored for hers/the child's sacrifices, she wants to grieve!! and honestly, the only healthy grieving we see from shauna come in episodes 1&2, as she vents in her journal about the current state of her world and then reburies the child on her own terms. of course shauna is carrying resentment for coach scott ditching her in labor (only to later flee the scene after the cabin was burned down). of course shauna is power hungry, she was made to feel secondary to jackie her entire adolescence and now has been stripped even further of her autonomy. so shauna results to some desperate measures in order to reclaim her identity within the group. BUT!!! shauna's rightful anger causes her to lash out in some un-rightful ways. her capacity for cruelty outweighs her grief. her competitive edge resurfaces during the game of capture the bone, where she tackles/bites mari as a ill attempt at reclaiming her power and autonomy. she spits in mari's food, doesnt offer to help find her. she wants to make coach scott pay for what she THINKS that he did, so much so that she strong-arms the rest of the team to vote ben guilty. she wants to burn him at the stake???? and then enables melissahat to slice ben's achilles???? she restrains the scientists who can offer them all a way home. she shoots at melissa, the only person who has been exhibiting any softness/kindness towards her. the more shauna gives into her anger, the more primal and connected to the wilderness she is. the more she comes into her own power, the less she wants to go back home and fade back into the shadows. she wanted this. she always had the power to become this. why are we surprised about how she ended up 25 years later?

okay hear me out. tlt animated adaptation BUT it starts with harrow the ninth. we have a desperate housewives-esque voiceover narration speaking in second person. the audience doesn’t know about anything that happened in gtn and doesn’t know that the “flashbacks” didn’t actually happen. first season ends with harrow finding palamedes in the river and the voiceover saying “you never could have guessed that he saw me.”

SECOND SEASON. we’re following the events that happen in gideon the ninth. there’s no more voiceover. nothing that happened in the first season is even mentioned. it’s not explicitly clear that we’ve gone back in time but it becomes more clear as the season progresses. lyctorhood wasn’t really fully explained in the first season either, but there were clues that become more obvious as the mystery unfolds. season ends pretty much exactly like the book ends, bringing us to the moment that the first season started.

THIRD SEASON. starts where the first season left off, follows the end of htn. Gideon desperate housewives voiceover is back.

fourth and fifth seasons would follow nona and alecto, obviously, but the format of them would have to be equally confusing and weird so I need to wait and see what alecto is like before I theorize on that.

or the show could just end after the events of harrow finishes and leave nothing wrapped up or explained. I honestly kind of like that better

Okay. I have crocheted 728 unique pokemon at this point and each of them is an absolute banger piece of art, so it's hard to narrow down which ones to copy to a specific "portfolio" of sorts. Also for many of them there are multiple pictures in terms of type of picture like FOTH (fresh off the hook / just made, me holding them in my hand for scale) or pokeamidex (pokemon posed with a background), and different angles.

I have very few people I would talk about this project with irl, but recently I mentioned it to a professional tailor and ofc she was genuinely interested in it and asked to see pictures. Fortunately I had just taken a bunch of nicer looking pokeamidex photos and had a good bunch she could scroll through. Unfortunately the first thing she saw because it was the thumbnail for my gallery's pkmn folder was. This:

Which multiple people have reacted to (understandably, lol) with "scary" "HES SO SCARY LOOKING" "straight out of a hyperrealistic creepypasta" and "WHY DOES HE HAVE HUMAN EYES". And it made me realize that perhaps I should have a separate folder of especially cool crochet pokemon. But due to the aforementioned numerous crochets I've made and my own personal biases about their awesomeness, it's hard to curate a smaller set of them.

So! This is mostly for fun/my own curiosity: Are there specific crochet pokemon or photos of them that you thought were particularly memorable or striking? What made it special?

But seriously, dsmp logic is so funny to me - We should piss off the two people most likely to blow up our nation because we don’t want them to blow up our nation again. And we should torture the person we think is so evil he’d torture us. Or I should hit and annoy for over a week the person who has previous killed and abused me - Like let’s provoke the people most likely to follow through and not be taken down easily, the people who are fully capable both skill wise and dedication wise of getting equal revenge…

Like the dsmp is so lucky that their “main villain” actually just wanted a happy family, because if that man was the actual evil maniac they thought he was then things would have been different - Oh Punz is leading you through this ominous portal to Dream’s bunker, huh now where have I see something like this before? *cough* Eret *cough* and then on the other side is just a pit of lava or something and they all die. Or in prison, Dream does kill Tommy over and over again to test the book. Or when he gets out he just starts blowing everything up, gathers end crystals and TNT and just -it all goes. Builds a grid above Las Nevadas and rains TNT down. Kills Tommy when Tommy confronts him after prison. Or after the first war just forces everyone to stay in L’manberg and never leave like he threatens in the Spirit speech. Then blows up their other houses. Does torture Sam, does torture Quackity, locks them in cells and then locks Tommy and Tubbo up too…

Like the fact Tommy calls Dream the devil, calls him Lucifer before even learning about Dream’s (arguably most evil deed) human experimentation is wild. Honestly, what would the dsmp members have done if Dream was the actual evil mastermind and not some homeless teletubby with an unattainable goal of a happy family?…

And then there’s Schlatt who was a poor drunk old man who was legally elected, Wilbur who told them multiple times he’s the traitor and about all the TNT, Quackity who blew up Purpled’s build to convince him to build something in Las Nevadas, Sam and Quackity who tortured a guy for the book that if Dream gave up either meant his immediate death or he would be their test dummy then set up the most sus trap with Techno’s murderer showing up to tell him to visit Dream (I mean you couldn’t at least get Sam to do it at least Sam wasn’t involved in his execution) after he hadn’t involved himself with Dream…….. like the only reason any of the villains were able to do things was the rest of the server’s enabling. I hardly think a war to take down Schlatt who didn’t even have armor before making the deal with Dream was necessary, Wilbur straight up told everyone what he was going to do, Sam was only able to do what he did because his authority of the prison went entirely unchecked by anyone, Quackity’s plans were fully dependent on his manipulation of people assuming they have the same goal he has and dependent on Sam being corrupt and Purpled and Slime being complacent, Techno also told everyone what his goal and motive were long before the withers were spawned in either war. I mean those are over simplified breakdowns, but I think the point still stands that the dsmp villains are kinda pathetic in the grand scheme of things like their plans were obvious if you paid any amount of attention and their downfalls were inevitable. The best actual evil villains were the Egg and DreamXD but people were so distracted that most of them missed that entirely. And for all the Egg battles and Tommy and Tubbo killing Dream, it wouldn’t have mattered because XD was going to reset everything anyways. Most of them missed the biggest threat all along and those that finally figured it out were too late… it’s funny because the end shows us what happens when the villains are actual competent villains and that ends in everyone’s death…

"Aaaahhhhh oh myy-" the rest of what you were saying was incomprehensible because the words slurred together in an excited squeal. A gleeful expression upon your face, you waved and shook your hands in front of your body, then pressed them over your mouth, to stifle another squeal.

Ford smiled to himself as he watched you from the other side of the room, where he propped his notebook open to scribble something down.

"Heeyyyyy Grunkle Ford, watcha got there?" Mabel's voice rang out right beside him.

He snapped the book shut and whipped his head around.

"Mabel!"

"Waves hands when excited." she cited what she had just read, "Were you talking about-"

"No, I was certainly not!" Ford said, while his cheeks started to turn a deep red colour.

"Are you suuuure? Because to me it looks like you diiiid." she said, a cheeky grin on her face and dragging some of the vowels.

"You are mistaken, dear child. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do." he excused himself and stood up, holding the notebook close to him.

Without letting her get another word in, he moved past her and made his way into his study.

There, he propped open the notebook to the page he'd just added a new note onto.

- likes to hum when no one is around - seems to prefer more loose fitting clothes. possibly because the don't restrict movement as much - will subconsciously play and fidget with any jewellery they're wearing - sorts and eats their food in a particular order - would rather not eat at all than something not appealing - skin irritating clothing causes great discomfort. remove tags!! - wants to talk but holds back. encouraging them has positive effect - avoids eye contact but will look at faces when the person isn't looking at them - do not touch without warning and do not force contact! expressed great discomfort to me after being forced to physical contact by someone else - repeating phrases and noises (quite endearing) - easily startled by sudden and loud noises, as well as irritated by high pitched ones, almost too quiet to hear - shows behaviours similar to felines. has stated that they would be delighted to posses the ability to purr (he would be delighted too)

Ford smiled as he looked up and leaned back. He really hoped Mabel hadn't seen too much, otherwise she might figure out how interested in you he really was. And we wasn't sure if he was ready for that.

For now he would be very much content continuing to dreamily gaze over at you and notice all the little things, so he could understand you better.

Maybe one day he could work up the courage to ask you out.
