This might be the shipper in me talking, but it IS funny that from afar, Laios always looked serious and bored to Kabru
but as soon as he actually meets the man, even when the memories are basically him offering others icky monster food talking or looking unhinged, Kabru always remembers Laios smiling
also this panel looks great in the anime too. Nice touch with the light source on Laios hitting Kabru too
#dungeon meshi#this might be his inner desires rearing its head but it's funny bc his dialogue and faces are always serious and anxious#but laios is always like :D#it's also not unique to Kabru. everyone fearfully remembers Laios with a scary face that's basically#âyuum monsters try a bite :Dâ#back to back like this does make the siblings' temperament more alike#labru#dm thoughts

Back on my Wyll script doctor because I was talking about it with a friend. Specifically imagining a version of Wyll's big Character Choice that felt like it had some actual teeth.
Imagine a world where instead of a cartoon evil hot lady Mizora and Wyll's relationship actually had some complexity to it and like. some genuine push and pull which gives him temptation to stay. I just keep thinking about this 17 year old who his whole life wanted more than anything to be a hero, who got his chance to do something heroic and selfless and save the city from certain doom, and his reward is getting kicked out because he did it the "wrong way".
Imagine if instead of forcing his silence, Mizora instead comforted him. How unbelievably cruel of your father! Well...since you've nowhere else to go, why not stick with me? We make a pretty good team, as it turns out, and I can get you a whole list of monsters who need killing. Plenty of devils and demons loose in your world targetting all sorts of innocents. Our interests can keep aligning, and you get a place to sleep when you need it.
Wyll makes his peace with it, because he has nothing and no one. And Mizora's not GOOD maybe, not by Ulder Ravengard's definition. But she's fun. She delights in his growth. And she does certainly keep direct him at greater evils, devils who really do need killing. And if she spies on his every waking moment, well, she worries. If she sends him after the occasional innocent, well, she had people who she has to answer to as well. She's a devil, how much can he fault her for her nature? She's always seemed like she knew where the line was...
Karlach (and the player) express their doubts, of course, but for act one at least he's defensive. Yes, she punished him and he hates it and its miserable but....he was in breach of contract! She's NEVER gone outside its bounds, she's always stuck very closely to their agreement. Wyll, who wants so badly to trust others and believe everyone has the chance for good, can't find it in him to believe the worst even of a devil.
And Mizora is FOND of Wyll, loves him even in her way. As a cherished pet, as a trusted tool, as a best-laid plan. Never enough to choose his own well-being over her own agenda, never enough to see him as his own person. He's her little project, the long shot noble brat she gambled on when Tiamat decided to get too big for her britches. And it paid off! Wyll always pays off, currying her all the favor from Zariel she so desperately craves. And who are you, or anyone, to come between them? She's treated him well. As she's quick to remind him, she wanted him when no one else did, aided him while the rest of his city slept snug in their beds. And if Ulder Ravengard didn't want a son with a whiff of infernal, then do you REALLY think he'd want you with lovely horns and Avernus in your blood?
You discover his father's been taken. Beyond igniting a lot of old feelings, it brings up a question of succession. Of course, Florrick isnt giving up on him, but if not...there aren't currently any likely candidates to take over the Flaming Fists. Not trustworthy ones. Florrick will take the position, but everyone knows in the back of his mind Ulder never really stopped planning for it to be Wyll. With the city in chaos and a cult army on the rise, they may need an answer sooner rather than later. Wyll feels the call of the Gate, but knows just as well that Mizora wouldn't want him to return in such an official capacity.
For the first time ever the leash starts to chafe in a way he can't keep pushing through.
Act 2 rolls around. Mizora sends up the Warlock signal. After potentially some encouragement from the player, Wyll (NOT THE PLAYER. I DONT KNOW WHY ITS THE PLAYER IN THE GAME ITS WEIRD) hesitantly proposes that maybe, if he does this....they can do a renegotiation of his contract. Not break it, he assures her quickly! Just....reopen the terms, take a looks at the agreement. Maybe discuss an exit ramp? After all....I mean, neither of us truly thought I'd be doing this forever, did we?
Based on Mizora's reaction. Yeah she did.
But fine. She agrees. And Wyll's not mad that it turns out you're rescuing her, not a nameless "operative" for Zariel. He would've done that on his own had she asked. Its the fact that she apparently didn't feel like being honest, that she let him fret and worry about potentially handing Zariel back some runaway for basically no reason. Its the fact that she came here to check in on the cult that abducted his FATHER just to see if Zariel could make any use of them. And its the fact that she seems surprised and annoyed that ANY of this bothers him.
All this builds, of course, to the final confrontation. The basic elements are the same. Mizora outside the coronation (this time needling at Wyll, "I'll be at camp if you're not too high and mighty to consort with the likes of me anymore"), Ulder tadpoled and fighting it. Mizora makes her offer. I can end the contract now, and you're free to go running after daddy (who won't want you btw! not like I do!). You'll lose all your powers, all my aid, all those juicy quests to chase down the greatest monsters in the hells. Take on your father's job and settle in for a life of misery and compromise and only doing as much good as the nobles will let you. Or: pledge yourself to me, eternally. I'll give you a boatload of new powers and eternal life to boot, so long as you serve as my sword and shield.
From there I think three endings branch out, and with it three classes for Wyll. If he stays with Mizora, accepts a relationship where he will never be an equal or a free agent in exchange for the affirmation he wants so badly from his father, he remains a Warlock, with some juiced stats and extra spell slots, along with shiny new gear. If he pledges to follow in his father's footsteps, he instead becomes an Oath of Devotion paladin, pledging himself in service to Tyr, if with a sense of doomed finality. The Blade of Frontiers is officially retired, and along with it any identity he has outside of being his father's son. Or the third path, break the contract without taking his father's role. He will look for his father, yes, but whether or not you find him he's going back to his roots, travelling around to do some good in the world (as the Blade of Frontiers) or kicking ass in the Hells with Karlach (as the Blade of Avernus). In this timeline he becomes a fighter, with a default preference for Eldritch Knight.
What's important: if he breaks his contract then Mizora is NOT hanging around camp. She will leave in a fury, accidentally bound by her own word to withdraw her influence completely if he breaks his contract. She may still approach the player some night to sleep with the player, framed for high approval/romanced players and her trying to take something back from Wyll. But Wyll will have to learn how to define himself without her breathing down his neck, without keeping her happy dominating his every thought. Its nervewracking, and even lonesome at times...but its freedom. And, perhaps, that's worth a little bit of lonesomeness.
#long post#again i want to be clear because i think wyll fans are a little understandably defensive of him#this is not about wanting wyll to be a bad person#its about wanting him to have an arc that parallels the rest of the companions#and be more firmly centered on HIS feelings and choices#ive done my best to preserve wylls canon temperament here#just give the circumstances more teeeth#bg3#baldurs gate 3#wyll ravengard#mizora#ulder ravengard

If I think about the double standard and the disparity with which the media handled Daniel in comparison to everyone else I may lose my mind.
#i genuinely feel like im in bizarro world. karun chandok the fucking donkey being like:#âyou have to feel for checo . he was doing so well in sq1 :( â#in comparison to the way they viciously circled around daniel for medicore performances let alone bad ones#similar with Naomi just now. i cant believe im gonna defend Perez in the same breath but for her to say;#âLawson has done everything to deserve checos seat. he has ticked all the boxesâ ????? bitch what boxea are you talking about?#she literally said the only thing he needs to work on is his âtemperamentâ would love to know what shes on lol#DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON LAZENBY HES SUCH A DUMB FUCKING RATTTTTTT#the way hes like âwhy is Lawson getting so much heat for complaining about sergio? Yuki has been doing it for years!â#well yuki has been in the 'Junior team' for 4 years now#what the everloving fuck is going on in the sport#obviously we all know how the media shapes the narrative but its genuinely still so jarring to see the standard they held daniel to#and the callousness with which they treated him

Alex Albon for High Performance
It was this weird thing, because â for example with Yuki, I wanted to take his seat! He was a potential candidate that I could replace. And I remember having that chat with Helmut Marko, and he told me at the time, "You need to driver-coach this guy." And I was like, "I'm not going to. That's a potential seat." And he said, "No, he's already signed. He's guaranteed." So I was like (throws hands), "Okay, fine. Then I'll help him."
#alex albon#*#so many good quotes in this.... saying he only developed his competitive drive upon losing his childhood privileges amongst them#the continuous professional struggle against natural temperament & symptoms of empathy & selflessness truly gets me every time#alex's propensity for self-dissection but also his simultaneous understanding of the drawbacks of such awareness đ”âđ«#also#it is interesting that finally having his support systems in place and being the most mentally resilient he's ever been in his career#unintentionally stressed logan's rookie environment and replicated the media scrutiny & narratives he underwent his 2nd year with max#i will stop but..... alex albon i adore you

TBH my âvisionâ of Maglor is more of a music nerd than any kind of drama queen fanon makes him out to be sometimes.
Like someone who just doesnât see the political ramifications other people saw in his songs, when it really was just a good metaphor. Someone with messy hair and pulls it back without even brushing it before going to a royal festival. The geeky, melancholic version of Finrod in his own family. A Maglor so obsessed with music and words he thinks about the sheer art of the Oathâs words rather than the context within itself or what it entails. Someone who wasnât aware of how the NoldolantĂ« could have been taken the wrong way and didnât even finish it before he vanished from history (or, who knows, he probably forgot to bring the lyrics written with him when the Gap burned), probably had a meltdown when he realized that he had lost it. Someone who loves music so much that, after all is finished, he fades while singing, because it was all he had left.
Someone who once had a joyful, innocent spirit which was brutally killed after he did.
#maglor#thought dump#Tolkien#Silmarillion#lotr#feanorians#add onto this and/or disagree idc have fun with it#but if I find one person saying âMaglor was more like feanor than curufin wasâ#I have a certain set of skills-#I will find you#I will hunt you down#and I will-#bc thatâs statement gives me such a headache so darn quickly itâs not even funny#itâs like everyone ignores âtolkien sparks notesâ in the HoME or smth#yeah Iâm referring to how Tolkien intentionally made Maglor into a more redeemable feanorians than the others#and noted Maglor having his motherâs more gentle temperament#I could rant about that for hours#but a kinslayer analysis ainât worth my time#bc next thing you know people will assume Iâm an apologist and blah blah blah#sure Maglorâs my favorite character in fictional history but I recognize that he was techinically a villain.#a tragic one but one nonetheless#sons of feanor

i'm just saying, if at some point during my childhood my parents took away all of my beloved animal companions and replaced them with some loud kid, i would NOT be as nice to that kid as jc is to wwx actually. i know what kind of irrationally crazy i am, and i would nurture that irrational grudge probably my whole life. it would be my villain origin story.
#actually i would like to hope i wouldn't be like this but like#i'm just saying ok#characters who become mean because of animal loss in their childhood can do no wrong in my heart#jiang cheng#knife mouth and tofu heart#(yes i know there is more going on vis-a-vis jc's temperament than just losing his dogs. please don't @ me about it)

personally i love the "Jason is the emotional member of the Batfamily" interpretation of the character. He's angry. He's exuberant. His love for his family ballooned so much that it ruptured when he died and swelled into a swollen, unbearable weight when he came back. When he feels his emotions he really feels them - they're so unfathomably big that his body can't contain them.
Bruce never lets himself feel things, Dick knows how to regulate himself to a point, but Jason puts emotions first. He loves fiercely and hates explosively, gets angry and then cools off, lets fear swell & blister until it physically hurts him. And sure, he can't help poking wounds just to make people look at him, but if there's some bullshit happening, he'll be the first to stand up and make a scene. Maybe it won't be the most tactical thing to do, maybe it'll even be detrimental to the goal, but the iron is too hot to temper and sometimes that's a good thing.
Like, i know Jason can be a real punk at times, and i'm not trying to say he's a good role model by any means, but i think it's interesting and even valuable to have a character who puts their emotions first - someone who takes action far more freely and doesn't check themselves like the other characters, who is (for better or for worse) a very passionate person and not afraid of it. I think it's a great to have a character who can't (and ultimately shouldn't) follow the Bats' policies that are just variations of "bottle everything up for the sake of the mission", because they just feel everything so damn much and it's okay because that's just who they are. And i think it works best both narratively and thematically if that character is Jason.
#i think jason would've been fine if ethopia hadn't cracked him open like an egg and fried him into a hot mess#his emotions were always big!! and he would've been able to work with that temperament if trauma hadn't fucked him over!!#but then he experienced hell incarnate and now his emotions are huge blisters that pop every time he feels them#idk i just think comic writers and fic writers should lean more into the âemotionalâ part of jay instead of just the âangryâ part#bc when pitted against emotionally constipated ppl like the batfam#it makes such a compelling tug of war between the boons of emotion and the consequences of it#dc#batfamily#jason todd#sage speaketh

jiang cheng at the club
i answered kind of speedily but hm blorbo should not be at the club
teenage era? the most debatable era tbh. on one hand - for one, if jiang cheng goes, he's going because he thinks that's what the cool kids his age should be doing, rather than because it's what he actually wants to do. for two, if he goes he's certainly going with wei wuxian. there's a good chance he'll have a good time with wei wuxian, but there's also a good chance that he'll spend the entire experience way too high-strung about wei wuxian doing something stupid (guaranteed) that will make both him and yunmeng jiang look stupid (not guaranteed but still likely) and/or put wei wuxian in danger (also very likely). there's also an even higher chance that wei wuxian will end up fucking off to chat/flirt/etc with other people (eg. lan wangji who wei wuxian also managed to drag to the club, who then gets drunk and thus wei wuxian now has to babysit), thereby leaving jiang cheng all by his lonesome. jiang cheng can probably talk to strangers, but he came here to have fun with wei wuxian and now wei wuxian has ding dong ditched. bonus points if wei wuxian promised to be designated driver and now jiang cheng has to uber home.
on the other hand - teenage wei wuxian and jiang cheng are definitely making the club more fun. mostly wei wuxian. and, despite all of the above, jiang cheng is probably having a good time...most of the time...too.
adult era: nah. jiang cheng is busy. it would be nice if he could let loose and forget about everything for a few hours, but he would not do that. realistically he'd just spend the entire time stressing about his growing to-do list, and the music would give him a headache.
also, everything at the club would remind him of wei wuxian. wei wuxian, certified party animal, was almost certainly the one dragging jiang cheng to the club in their youth; jiang cheng probably does in fact have some happy memories of clubbing with wei wuxian. but those happy memories are gonna curdle into depressing ones the moment he steps through the doors and is reminded of wei wuxian again. the photos of wei wuxian doing a keg stand behind the bar are making him miserable, and he in turn is going to make it everyone else's problem.
postcanon era: also nah. mostly because he'd almost certainly run into jin ling et al. sneaking into the club with fake IDs, and now everyone's yelling.
on the other hand....maybe he and wei wuxian can eventually reconcile over a night of partying they're both frankly way too old for. or maybe when they wake up the next day in the same ditch with matching hangovers.
#mdzs#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#yanyan speaks#maybe i shouldve picked âhe's already at the clubâ bc if clubs existed he and wwx certainly would have gone clubbing as teenagers#which this meta also hinges on lol#tbh my gut reaction was ânoâ moreso because i've mentally put jiang cheng in the category of âsimilar to lwj in temperamentâ#and lwj would not enjoy the club#but ngl idk if that reasoning holds up to scrutiny lol#actually the real nightmare scenario for jc is if they start playing tswift in the club. bc then there are only 2 possible scenarios:#1. he's a tswift hater so now he's suffering. his dislike isn't even for any legit reasons he's just a pure hater#2. he's secretly a swiftie...but everyone else in his friend group is a Certified Hater so now he has to pretend to be a hater too#stay losing king

I love how Vasco looks like he is always living his best life while Machete looks like he never had a moment of rest, ever, in his life. Like a mirror reflecting two opposites
.
#well you know#I think it's a temperament and emotional regulation thing#Vasco has faith things are never as bad as they seem#and has learned to keep up an optimistic demeanor even when he's having doubts and worries#at least to a certain point#in Machete's head in order to survive you have to always predict the worst outcome and do everything in your power to prevent it#so he feels like he's always two steps away from some unforeseeable disaster and if things go wrong it's always his fault#it's very hard for him to relax relinquish control and trust that everything will work out#answered#anonymous

I think the red hair pirates would be obsessed with S-Hawk too! Especially the main group who've known Mihawk through his teenage marine hunting phase.
Benn would know they are walking on thin ice but look at him! Heâs a little baby Mihawk! Look at his little uniform shirt tucked into his little shorts. Every angry and threatening expression s-hawk could make would mean nothing to a crew that has seen the real thing live and in color. It would just be adorable like look at his little frown! His glare! The threat of disembodiment in his eyes! Adorable
Mihawk is very uncomfortable with how much the red hair pirates fawn over and adore what is essentially a manufactured baby him. But yet also somehow touched? By it. Heâll kill everyone and then himself before he admits it tho
Yasopp, who actually did know a shorter 19 year old Mihawk, would ask him if he was that adorable but tiny (still can't comprehend that the seraphim are infact giant) as a child and if he had any pictures, and Mihawk almost takes his head.
#Mishanks#something about people being kind to the younger version of yourself when you havenât known much kindness#I think itâs also a-hawk has his exact temperament maybe even worse cause he doesnât even really speak#but they like him because of that not inspire of it which means theyâll probably like him too if heâll let them.#little does he know they already do and lucky roux yasopp and Benn adore him#benn would have to repeatedly explain that that is a murder robot and not a baby bird#I think they should by whatever miracle find pictures of an actual baby mihawk and they hang it on the fridge next to Luffy's wanted poster#throwing thoughts to the void#I do like desperately need S-Hawk and Mihawk to meet#I hope they do because Iâm so interested in how the warlords would react to that#like thereâs a younger version of you that was created without your knowledge or permission#itâs essentially a mirror to your childhood that suffers all on it own and youâre told it has no autonomy#but you can see the hints of a personality they are trying to suppress#red hair#red hair shanks#red haired shanks#red hair pirates#red haired pirates#dracule mihawk#hawkeye mihawk#akataka#mihawk x shanks#seraphim#one piece seraphim#one piece memes#one piece funny#op#one piece#shitposting#s hawk

I'm so curious about Kagha, because she's so different from Halsin. She and Halsin are both wood elves, and I get the sense that Kagha is probably not ~young~ but she's not nearly as old as Halsin. When you deal with the Shadow Druids, she's very quick to defer to him and treat him like a teacher she's disappointed. He probably mentored her, if he's chosen her as his second in command - though, I would bet it's in more of a general thing in the way that the First Druid is everyone's mentor, rather than the clearly more direct and specific mentorship he has with Nettie as a healer.
Canonically, Halsin isn't an exceptionally good leader. He's not bad at it, and he has good instincts. He correctly surmises that after the dust-up with Kagha and the tieflings, the Emerald Grove needs an outsider to step in and lead without being tied to any particular grudges or politics. That's savvy enough that I think Halsin was a good First Druid, he just wasn't especially good or great at it and clearly didn't like the position. At worst, I think he let some situations fester because of his focus on the Shadow Curse.
But I'm not ready to say that he didn't realize Kagha was a proverbial snake in the grass ~the whole time~, because I don't think she was. I think she was genuinely and recently radicalized by the Shadow Druids. I think she probably had something of an edge before, maybe she was a hardass or had a mean streak or something. Regardless of how I feel about the quality of the Shadow Druid subplot (which is that I think its pacing is meh and Kagha's face-turn is way too fast and kind of shitty), I think it speaks to the fact that her care for the Grove is genuine. That perhaps Halsin's failure with her wasn't in not realizing she was A Bad Person Actually, but in not tending to her insecurities or noticing that she might be feeling isolated, if she was so effectively shaken by the Shadow Druids' fearmongering.
The recent wave of IRL cults should have taught us all by now that everyone is susceptible to cult tactics if they're sufficiently scared and alone, and BG3 is a game riddled with various cults. You don't have to already be a bad person, or a stupid or weak person, to fall for them. And I think Kagha's story is way less interesting if you just think she's an evil power hungry shrew too stupid to keep herself from being radicalized.
She clearly has a nasty streak, but her apologies and regrets also sound sincere, if you manage to hear them. Even when she isn't "redeemed", she accepts her punishments, even if she does so bitterly and not believing she was wrong. And I have to wonder just how much of that mean streak is self-defensive rather than inherent in her, how much of it is that she struggles to admit failure and learn from it. Or how much is her modeling Halsin's level of single-minded commitment, picking a methodology or an action and throwing all of her weight behind it, even when it may no longer be working.
I wish characters like Kagha got nearly as much love and fandom development and benefit of the doubt as someone like Ketheric. I think she has a ton of potential for that, and way fewer crimes to her name than other fandom favorites who just happen to also be, you know. Men.
#bg3#baldur's gate 3#kagha#halsin#bg3 spoilers#bog post#tbh i get more fond of kagha in every playthrough#also i wonder how much of kagha being so high strung#is BECAUSE halsin was obsessed with the shadow curse#i wonder how much of his responsibility as first druid#were already being performed by kagha#saddled with the tasks but not the responsibility#not the ability to make new decisions#THAT will certainly make someone feel unbalanced and insecure#i like the idea that he chose her because of their differences in temperament perhaps#but how much of that was savvy decision-making#and how much of it was saddling her with extra burdens#to make up for halsin's preoccupation and distraction
