Get Back Rewatch 55 Years On: Day One
So I know this has probably been overdone by lots of people on lots of years but I haven't done it yet and I want to so here goes: I'm going to rewatch get back with the days matched up and catalogue my thoughts as I watch.
We don't get to see George and John saying hi to each other, but I'm struck by how careful they are with Ringo when he comes in. "Hi Ringo, happy new year." From both of them, with full eye contact soft, sweet voices. I wonder if they're really wanting to be so gentle with him after what happened at the end of August. Not like walking on eggshells at all, but just very "we're working on doing better because we care about you."
While Paul's not there, John is giving George full attention, leaning in to him, facing him while they sing, and George seems to really love it
But then Paul shows up and you can tell before we even see him that he's arrived, because suddenly John's gaze is gone from George. His eyebrows shoot up, he chin-tilts, and (this sounds insane I know but it's what I just watched) his singing drastically improves. He's putting effort in, performing.
Paul sits down and the shy little grins and glances and inside jokes (at George's expense and hypocritical of John) ensue immediately.
Ringo's jacket. The black with the maroon velvet collar. It's very cool and it's very unique to him. I don't see the other three pulling it off the way he does. He just has effortless swagger. If the other three wore something like that they'd look like try-hards.
George's sassy little hair flip. "oh, you're recording our conversation?"
Meanwhile John and Paul are back at it like magnets I swear. Turned in to each other, talking gibberish, and strumming
George with the deadpan sass again. "Maybe we should just learn a few songs first." Lol he's so stone cold.
"Oh please believe me." "Yes I will." Come on. Do you ever stop? And then the silent communication when they screwed up. We don't see Paul's face but John makes such a cute "oops sorry" face and they keep going.
Paul's literally so bossy. I find it such a turn on, really, watching it. Just because it's him being a genius who has a vision and sucks at social skills. But if I were in that band and he wasn't letting me hit I'd literally hate him.
John's so delighted with Paul's "everybody's got a hard on... Except for me and my monkey." Because that's one of the ways he often expresses his love for Paul and Paul's giving it back to him here. So John's just "Oh he made a joke about my song. He's teasing me. He does like me."
Paul literally diggs John's part of IGAF so fucking hard though. Like as soon as John's singing, Paul can not be still. Can not. He just thinks John's so so clever (and to be fair he is)
Crazy eye fucking continues
Then Paul's off to talk big boy plans with the daddies for a minute. (would love to know who he waved at then sucked his finger) "Is this your place, Twickenham?" Okay. Feeling out a potential daddy's pockets. I see you.
Obsessed with Yoko's emerald bag and how she got her little boyfriend to wear the exact color of Henley. Ken was literally made to be Barbies accessory and he's doing such a great job matching her purse. She's so pretty and cool.
It cracks me up how extremely nonchalant Ringo is about Magic Christian. (I LOVE that movie. Ringo is so hot in it and it's anti-capitalist so it's a winner). Dennis O'Dell is all "the scripts are marvelous." And Ringo's just "yeah you told me." And then Dennis is like "I'll take up up and show you around these really great sets." Ringo: "yeah okay." It's almost like the other three have no chill so he has to have only chill to balance it out.
They really are so blunt with each other when they don't like something. "I don't dig that." "Scrap that." Which is good. If only they could've been blunt when they did like things too though. And I guess they were sometimes. Like John telling Paul to keep that lyric in Hey Jude. But I don't think they were half as open with their positive feelings about each other's work as they were the other way around and that's so sad to me.
Why does George single Paul out about the sandwiches? It's cute. I love it. But what is it? Is he particularly worried about Paul and food because Paul's picky? Is it just their relationship that they take care of each other in these simple ways because they can't take care of each other emotionally?
Fucking hell why does Paul literally flirt with everyone all the time? "No separation in there." "Rain or snow will do me." "Yeah, you're pretty right, Michael."
Pretty sure John was looking at the lyrics of TOU off that sheet that said "Another Quarrymen Original" at the bottom. I wonder what he thought of that. I wonder if it was there to signal him, and if so what was it signalling? "Hey this is about you."??
"Two of us Henry Cooper." Referencing a boxer in a song about him and John. Why? Because they're fighting?

Books I will never read
1. Anything by Haruki Murakami, but especially Norwegian Wood.
I've read Kafka on the Shore halfway through and stopped. Also that one handjob scene....no. why. He's a huge misogynist who I do not want to support. I've heard about that one scene in Norwegian Wood with the father's picture...yikes. I like literary fiction the most, which means I want well-written characters meaning all of them should be well-written and have a soul, yes even the female ones. I saw that one picture of pseudo intellectual Harry Styles being in bed reading Norwegian Wood...at this point why? Why do we not question this? I sometimes wonder if this is all an inside joke I'm not into.
2. Any CoHo/Emily Henry/Tiktok romance book
No explanation needed. I'm in a happy relationship and I don't have a son with big balls.
3. Any splatterpunk book (Eric LaRocca's books, Playground)
I like disturbing books, I have nothing against brutal/disgusting scenes and such, but it has to have a purpose. You cannot write such sick, twisted things just for shock value, because you are a writer and should at least be a good one. Splatterpunk writers don't care about that. They write the most sick, twisted things that a human could come up with. It's not revolutionary but tasteless shock. Those people don't love literature, they love gore. It doesn't help that the vast majority of those authors are men and that they let their female and their younger characters experience a lot of pain. They get away with their blatant sadism and sexism by categorizing it as "splatterpunk".
4. That Icebreaker book
Not just bc it's a tiktok romance book, but specifically bc it reminds me of that one tiktok named Kierra I think who was widely sexist and rude and evil to a hockey player's wife just bc she said she didn't want her to make anymore sexual comments about her husband and the father of her child. Wild. You should definitely look into it.
5. A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
Torture Corn really. Straight women writes queer male characters are tortures them. We've all seen it, really.
6. Any self help book
Pure Scams. It is capitalist propaganda that your problems are based of your material conditions but are purely isolated from the rest of the world and as long you buy my book in which I give you a list of what to do, you won't be happy. When you give me your money, you'll be happy, really!
It definitely doesn't help that most of those authors are white, male and rich.
7. Books with queer male romance written by straight women
I'm not saying straight women don't have the capability to write well-written male queer characters, I'm just saying that there's a pattern...
I've come to this conclusion after reading the beloved "Song Of Achilles". There's a lot of critique I have with this book, mainly it's portrayal of queerness.
8. Any Books by J.K Rowling, including Harry Potter
Transphobic asshole and not that good of a writer.
9. Tolstoi's works
I'm sure he is great writer. Sometime when I'm old and grey I'll try reading War and Peace. But now, I'm too dumb for that.
10. Any of those celebrity authobiographies
I have my own life. I truly don't care and if I do I'll just watch some YouTube video instead of wasting my money. They're so painfully ghost written. Hate ghost written books, they can be so soulless. You can't really get an objective look at things bc the books are obviously biased. Look at that Prince Harry biography. You feel bad for him bc his wee-wee got frostbite without him actually addressing his partaking in the iraq war.

i am of course most interested in the leverage au, but i would love a fun fact about it's not jan maas's fault he's tall as well
Leverage AU
Pulling from my spreadsheet I really don't think I can do words to how much I would love to see Hitter! Roy as Juror #6 in the Juror #6 Job.
The newness of being on a team he can trust where everyone isn't trying to stab him in the back. He's spent so long perfecting his intimidating stance and gnarly personality -- what do you mean these people find it funny? It's not funny; he's a threat.
And then Ted tells him with a folksy smile that he's going to have to serve his fake-real civic duty after he is accidentally selected for Jury Duty ("I think your script kiddie code worked too well, Beard. Beard? Where's Beard?" "He's playing chess against the mark. Apparently she has a board set up in the war room." "Aw, hell. Well that's him gone for the afternoon.").
Then the almost. Stifled. Way. He asks for help. When he thinks the trial might be fixed. Him storming out when no one believes him that there is a conspiracy lurking at the heart of every etc etc.
So they end up hatching a plan and part of that plan is that Roy -- here known as Brett - needs to get the other jurors to open up. Keeley and Rebecca tag-team trying to teach him how to sound approachable. Rebecca eventually gives up, but Keeley does stick around and teach him how to pick pocket someone's bracelet off their wrist without them knowing.
When he gets back to the trial and starts 'making small talk' they are all baffled that his voice can go so high? (He sounds like Brett Goldstein. They are all disturbed)
Then we have Rebecca as a fake venture capitalist doing her best impression of Jack, a venture capitalist nepo-baby that she met one time that she didn't particularly care for but who had dope suits.
And finally we have JAMIE AS A FAKE LAWYER. GIVING THE WORLD'S LONGEST POWER POINT PRESENTATION. Is he believable? Sort of, in 'my parents paid for my degree' way. Is he very charming though? Yes, absolutely. He also mispronounced jurisprudence (jury'sprudence) but that could happen to anyone. He also got to punch more guys than Roy this week because the mark tried to have him 'taken care of' in the bathroom. He is thriving this week.
It's Not Jan Maas' Fault That He's Tall
This started as a stupid one-off idea off of someone's post that was 'what if someone on the Richmond team could read minds?' Well, I picked Jan Maas, after an Isaac-induced football to the head. The key takeaways from this one:
Jamie - chiller than you thought, his head is nonstop ear worms, and he is surprisingly funny (Jan missed all of s1 Jamie's jokes and that is a crime to me)
Dani - thinks in vibrant colors and feelings, gives Jan a new appreciation for how deeply sensitive Dani can be towards his teammates moods (also, more irritatingly, tends to pick up whatever song is in Jamie's head if he hears so much as a note. Leads to Jan having to hear 'baby shark' in stereo. he might kill them both and hide their bodies)
Sam - Sam is....look, Jan is having a bit of an emotional moment here. Because he knows he can be blunt, but he is starting to have an epiphany of how fucking soft some of his teammates can be, and it's a little overwhelming for him to realize how much he likes these people (he won't stop being blunt. but maybe he can consider being blunt about positive things sometimes)
Colin - Colin's inner dialogue is blisteringly judgemental and endlessly stupid. Jan needs to hang out with him more

i'd love to hear your thoughts on klaasje
i love klaasje soooo much she's so interesting to me and i really love how they made her parallel harry in a lot of ways, but i think that specifically could be a separate post
one of the things that ruins me about her is like... she's so young to be in this situation. she's only 28 and she's become a fugitive from entities that she's not even sure are actually chasing her, which is a special kind of hell. in her eyes, her life is over, and it had barely begun. this wasn't even her plan, she was dragged into everything as a result of the capitalist machine: she did odd jobs until a banking firm picked her up and found out she was really good at corporate espionage, and because that was what finally gave her life stability, she stuck with it. she caused people to lose their jobs- some, their lives- and helped these larger companies destabilize smaller competitors and corner the market. she only did it a few times, but she tangibly ruined people's lives, including her own. and she clearly feels terrible about it, but she can't undo what she's done.
she came to martinaise to hide because no one cares about martinaise. she was staying in a hotel room, pretty much constantly on drugs to numb herself, fooling around with the odd resident, but she wasn't doing much to permanently establish herself- we see no evidence that she was trying to do any work or find someplace to live in the area. martinaise was never meant to be a place to start over, off the radar; it was just supposed to be a place where she could self-destruct in peace. when she tells harry that martinaise isn't the kind of place that calls the cops, that had been a deciding factor in her move there. she wanted that- she wanted a place hostile to people asking questions, hostile to anyone with an outside agenda. she knew that even if the residents wouldn't be particularly sympathetic to her situation, their outright hatred of outside enforcement would go a long way towards keeping her hidden, and her looks and charm and manipulation could fill in the gaps. she wanted to stop looking over her shoulder. she thought she could finally stop causing harm, and then lely gets killed and she thinks it's because of her, and because she leaves before the end of the case (or gets arrested), she *may never get to find out that it wasn't*. (yes, you can argue that dros killed lely because he was obsessed with klaasje so it's ""her fault"", which is how klaasje would probably see it if/when she found out, but it's NOT klaasje's fault. it was not something she wanted or intentionally did or even knew about. she is not to blame for dros' obsession.)
she's manipulative and a chronic liar and she'll throw anyone under the bus to save her own skin, and she'll feel bad about it later, but she won't hesitate to do it again. as we see her, she's deeply selfish: the things she talks about, she talks about in the context of how it serves her. the freedom of revachol, for example, she brings up because in a free revachol she wouldn't be extradited, not necessarily because she has some great love for the city. i think she shares some of harry's ability to know what buttons to push to get people to do what she wants: she'll exploit anything she can to throw harry off her. disco, his attraction to her, his love for the city, potentially his hatred of capitalism and/or the moralintern- she'll grab anything she can find and twist until he lets her go. and here's the thing: we're seeing all these traits when she's at her worst. she watched a man she liked be murdered right on top of her while she was already paranoid that extremely powerful people were out to get her, cracked under the stress of watching him rot outside her window and got the cops involved, then immediately realized her mistake and tried her hardest to slither out of her own mess just one last time. as much as we can joke about her being a girlboss and all that, she's a terrified, emotionally scarred young woman who (rightfully!) has NO idea how to handle the situation she finds herself in. and ruby's immediate fear of harry- so intense that she, the ex-madre drug runner and current union thug, immediately ran and hid upon hearing of his arrival- couldn't have helped reassure her. we can say all of these things about her, and i wouldn't say anyone is wrong to dislike her, but i think it's important to view her through a sympathetic lens if you want to truly understand her.
all of this kinda boils down to the fact that she's become a creature of fear. if she had a signature skill i would argue that it would be half light, or something like it. everything she's doing in the game, she's doing for self preservation. even the overwhelming amount of *partying* is just fear management. and she's good at hiding it at first, but the more you press her the more you watch her break down. she's traumatized. her wounds are freshly reopened. she's scared. of course she's scared: you're a cop with a horrible reputation and she's a fugitive who was the only witness to a convoluted murder, and the murder happened to be of a man she really liked, if only briefly. you'll have to forgive her if she's not squeaky clean. it's hard to be, in revachol.
#klaasje amandou#disco elysium#she mirrors harry in the sense that klaasje has hurt people but nobody here knows her transgressions except herself#whereas harry has hurt people and EVERYONE knows what he's done except himself#we get two perspectives on how this affects a person. one with almost strictly internal consequences and one with almost strictly external#we have no idea who klaasje was before the corporate job#she was a roller skating instructor. a secretary. a receptionist. a fan of oranjese literature.#and we will never really know those sides of her.#here in martinaise she's a shadow of the things that are haunting her and not much else#and so is harry!#in another world maybe they'd be good company for each other. they can definitely relate in some ways#but only in the next world. as new people. it's too late for them here#kiwipost#THANKS FOR THE ASK THIS WAS SO FUN#PLEAASSSE COME INTO MY INBOX AND ASK FOR THIS KIND OF STUFF I LOVE IT#ask#ka meta

can I hear about the mia and ollie similarities whenever you have time...
theyre blonde :( thats it :( okay but ACTUALLY LETS GET INTO IT
They're loud assholes to people who need to be yelled at, but theyre actually hella introverted.
Mia "i think fast i talk fast" Dearden will mouth off at villains and batman, and take the piss out of people she loves. BUT she wasn't exactly shown to have like a friend group at her school (she was shown to be popular. but we only see her specifically interact with one person), and was extremely nervous to join the titans, not because they intimidated her, but because she didnt really...want to be there. She'd rather be with people she knows. She spends most of her time practicing archery, even before she was speedy. The only time we ever saw her go out anywhere was on a date with Dodger. And I will be pretending for the sake of this post that all of this is bc of character stuff and not just bad writing!
Similarly, Ollie "goateed loudmouth" Queen thrives when he's alone, he prefers it, he rarely spends time with people outside of his family or close close friends. He'll rant and rave at leaguers and cops and capitalists and villains all day long, but he's at his happiest and most content when he's alone, and often when on the move too, this man cannot sit still he is like a fucking shark he will die if he is in the same place too long but thats unrelated to this post.
As is pretty much a requirement to be in the arrowfam. Neither of them are here to fight the big alien threats you take on while being in the league/titans. They're here to save the little guy and fuck up capitalists. They have both seen the worst of society on the very opposite ends of the spectrum, Ollie with the rich, Mia with those the rich forget or ignore. I don't think I really need to add an example of Ollie here considering thats like his main this if u know anything about him. But look heres mia thinking abt it in her first titans issue.
Now with coping mechanisms they're a lil different, Mia tends to isolate and stay in one place. Ollie will isolate but fuck off somewhere. Accidentally walk to canada. That sorta thing.
(pls ignore how terrifying bald ollie is)
They also both mask their emotions and deflect with humour when around other people, they don't want others to have to deal with their shit, they don't want to burden them (hence the isolation, this also often leads to them imploding in on themselves). Heres my most favourite example of their similarities ever (yes I will continue to post and talk about this specific thing every 3 weeks and no one can stop me) I do owe Hester my life for this
Now heres the best part. They both did this a lot right. And yknow what that led to? Learning and growing and being there for each other :] Now im going to be honest we dont really see this growth in vol 3 bc judd winick is incapable of writing character development but! Phil Hester is here for us once again with his story in the 80th special and this part specifically <3
Also once again a whole arrowfam thing- neither of them give two shits about their secret id lmao. I choose to believe Mia is so flippant about hers bc she so easily realised Ollie was GA that she just went like. Yeah sure I won't give a fuck either, it's clearly working for him.
oh and they both like musical theatre, hate batman and are homophobic**. sad. **not actually thats just an in joke in fandom
#mia dearden#oliver queen#ollie queen#long post#arrowfam#listen this isnt. worded the best#not very concise or articulate#but like u get it#u get it#pls get it#theres some more stuff but im not in my big brain mode rn so i cant word it right#anyways#green arrow#dc comics#them teehee#THE HOMOPHOBIC THING IS A JOKE DW

Idk if you talked about this before but what's your thoughts on the Blight parents' relationship? Asking this mainly because I saw a long post saying all of Alador's actions were forced by Odalia (even the scene of telling Amity to drop Willow) and the only reason he neglected the kids was because he worked to protect them hence he wasn't abusive. Imo he and Odalia got along fine in their debut so when the "odalia abused alador" reveal dropped it was surprising for me. Since they were also hexside friends, I wonder if the show would've explored that aspect of their relationship before it went downhill (it would've been cool as Odalia as a character feels wasted)
I absolutely have talked about this before, in part because between S1 and 2, the Blight Family was actually one of the most interesting parts about the show for me. They were literally the first blog I wrote about TOH because I thought people treated them unfairly, especially Odalia, because High Society Characters are different from ones we normally sympathize with. If you want to see that version of the Blights, where they're both neglectful and making mistakes but also genuinely meaning well by their kids, I have a story called The Power of Love that explores a LOT of TOH's post S1 potential but especially Amity and her family alongside with making Boscha a real character. I've also just talked about them being shit in the past but I really want to focus on this in this blog: They're both terrible people. Everyone likes to focus on the fact that Odalia is a greedy capitalist but an honest story would recognize that Alador is a mad scientist. That Odalia would sell her children to get ahead while Alador would experiment on them if allowed or if he saw it as useful to his research. He makes robots though, so that's never in question. Amity ONLY gets Alador's attention... By besting his own creation. He watches that whole fight in Escaping Expulsion like he's studying it and liking the results. So yeah, he notices Amity is strong and is able to use that against Odalia to make her not be the dumbest form of villain, so they can claim to have some sort of principles... But how much do you really think that matters to him?
His statement when Luz tries to end the fight by saying the investors get it is that she has a point. Not that they are maybe going too far or that the abomiton's job of destruction is bad but just that the point has been made. Because that's what matters to him. After all, they specifically know that this creature is going to kill Luz. This isn't an interesting experiment for Alador. He doesn't care. He'd rather get this over with so he can go back to his lab.
Even Clouds on the Horizon actually reinforces this. Yes, he complains about not having a weekend off in five years... But that's FIVE. FUCKING. YEARS. There's a point where you know... Maybe he should have complained about this? Questioned anything. But that raises the question of: Before this... What the fuck else was he doing with his time? Both Escaping Expulsion and Reaching Out have him entirely in mad scientist mode where you might distract him for a moment but he will just keep working and ignore everything around him. That's part of WHY he likes Odalia. Odalia loves to talk. Loves to be social. Loves to remove the part he doesn't care about and easily gets distracted during. Even in Clouds on the Horizon, he doesn't explicitly state that his complaint is a lack of time with his kids. He's finally feeling it now because, if we're generous, Amity opened his eyes but... That implies he's a good person. That he just needed a reminder of who he was deep down, just like his daughter did (because Amity frankly has similar issues to this). But... if he were a good person, jokes like 'Immediate execution" would be done instead by having imply that the punishment is very light, revealing that his true nature, when he's not thinking, is kind. But it's not. It's more extreme than expulsion and goes all the way to murder. And why shouldn't it? He still had to have had this talk with Odalia. Agreed with the outcome. Learned the lines. If he was mad about it, he doesn't need to be at that meeting. He could be home working. This was instead important enough to him to get him out of the house. Same goes with dismissing Willow. He took time out of his day for that and didn't keep on script. Him cutting Amity off is not his job there unless he wants it to be. He defers power to Odalia though because she is better than him at this stuff. She is comfortable interacting with other people in ways he is not and their relationship is pretty much divided by those lines. It's very businesslike but neither person actually gives a fuck about people so why shouldn't it be more about collaborating strengths than it is anything emotional? And here's the thing: I'm just going by what the show shows us. Because if we claim Odalia made Alador do everything he does in the show... Who is Alador? We never get a real glimpse of that. If we even say the abomatons aren't something he wants, then he isn't an inventor. The best we have is he'd like to be a layabout and that doesn't technically include his kids. He could just be lazy then and do whatever he wants because that's what he already did... But at least he was making something.
The closest we have to anything else is Amity claiming that he used to spend time with his kids. We have literally no evidence of this, his personality doesn't support the claim, he didn't give a shit about Amity's well being until she challenged his creations as he was entirely on board with destroying social life, twice, so why should we think he was some paragon? Why should we believe Amity who doesn't even go on to ask about his fate once they're back in the Isles and she sees her siblings? Who seemed to care MUCH about her mother's opinion for Reaching Out rather than literally ever bringing up her dad?
It's revisionist in a way that tries to rewrite their dynamic into something more complex than it was. To try and make there be a point to Alador when him having control of the Abomatons doesn't even go anywhere because they still get shot down and still have to leave Alador behind to fight the damn things while they go rescue Luz. Cut out literally the entirety of Clouds on the Horizon and make it the Hexide kids rushing to the Day of Unity instead and you have a different force that can hold back the abomatons while Amity and co go off to help Luz. Worse yet, replace abomatons with "Elite EC Coven Scouts" and you effectively get the same result making Alador and Odalia even more pointless besides a very minor road bump on Amity's character arc all things said and done with how easy her rebellion against them is. They have no point in the story so people are going to scramble for some deeper meaning. Some reason they should exist by having them tackle something as provocative as domestic abuse or the like. But it doesn't. Instead, it's just inconsistent, wasteful writing that has no point to exist when the main character it should be affecting, Amity, is barely a part of any of it. She has some of the least screentime of any character in Escaping Expulsion. She isn't a part of her dad's transformation in Clouds except in an abstract way where Alador just wanting to spend more time video gaming would have been as meaningful with how shit their relationship is at the end of Reaching Out because they wouldn't even let us have a hug in that episode between the two because TOH refuses to just let a plotline end simply even when it involves extremely minor characters. And Reaching Out is the closest we come. An episode where Alador still rigs an entire abomaton to make sure Amity goes to the tryouts without knowing it's Odalia's dream not hers. And if Odalia really was the reason he did EVERYTHING... Shouldn't he know her better than that? Almost like maybe he sees the EC as a good future for Amity too because that's success and he clearly cares about success to some extent. Otherwise, he wouldn't have married a woman as greedy as Odalia. And even if in real life, I've watched a relationship turn toxic the minute they got married, nothing about either character, from their Hexide days, to a decade ago, to now, seems all that different from each other. They just now have kids they neglect or use as free labor. And yes, it's really that simple, no matter how much that fucking blows. And a final note actually: This is my interpretation. We get such little time with Alador and Odalia that statements like "This is why he likes her" are going to be somewhat subjective by how you interpret their relationship. If you think it's as shallow as Alador just found her hot and married her because of that and has been trapped for 16+ years... Well, A: why are you trying to paint him as sympathetic when you seem to not like him? but B: why hasn't her mistreatment been even longer? More over the top? We're just missing basic answers to these characters because they're so bog standard (even if Odalia feels like she comes from the 80s or 90s cartoons more than literally anything I grew up with) that I have to stretch and use literally every scrap of screentime we get with these characters because not only do they get so little of it, their family/kids reflect such little about themselves because none of the elements cohere into something whole. They're bad and really only stand out for that fact versus other one off villains because, well, they're related to Amity. But they're also dealt with just as easily as any villain of the week the show does so they have this weird contrast between Amity's importance and the importance the show actually gives them. Which again: Sucks.

part 2 of my Pirates SMP theory
So last time I ended off on the realization that if the People of the Yellow Ship are basing their choices off of the character's backgrounds, then Scott is probably going to be the next victim (sorry people who are already attached to the Denholm brothers).
But regarding my joke about hair colour being the reason it can also work because. You know.
But now here's where I start theorizing about the future. I think, that the Kestrels will be eliminated first, or at least targeted the most overall. If this is how it goes than it implies that there is monetary gain to turning innocent pirates (haha, there's no such thing) to stone. Much like real cultists, there be gold to be given if you can just persuade 'em. I assume that Scott also comes from money so it would make sense in that context too. Owen also comes from money but I doubt he'll be targeted until towards the end, due to his main character energy.
Actually, it would be a subversion of tropes if Owen was picked off early. It would be an opportunity to make like a true DM and control the world from the aether. Make like a Grian and become a god of spectators. I doubt it will go this way but it would be an interesting choice.
If my theory of the Kestrels being picked off first turns out to be true more or less, than it would honestly be a waste. Starkid taught me that leaving the more unlikeable characters alive closer to the end (hi Ted) tends to be the right call. I think. I don't actually consume much horror media, I don't know how this works as well as most people. But it is interesting to me that the Kestrels are the only faction to not have been given a more favourable, positive value.
The Kites may be brutish murderers (at least to some) but they have honour, and passion. The Nightingales were mentioned once to value family, which combined with adventure is a combination of values I've never seen before. And the Herons are already pretty appealing to the Ravenclaws of us (sorry to invoke the worldbuilding of Miss Rowling). The Kestrels are really only mentioned to value wealth which, especially with much of the mcyt community being young anti-capitalists, already gives us a reason to dislike them. Especially with Sausage, Kyle and Oli really playing into the greedy rich man archetype, and Scar committing crimes of the stealing and scamming variety (although let's be honest, we can't hate Scar for that, if anything. There's a reason why most of the fanart so far has been about him and not the lesbian couple whose deaths kickstarted the lore, I see you all).
I haven't seen Martyn's POV yet so I don't know where his character lies on the spectrum, but Guqqie seems to be the only good member of the Kestrels, though even she dabbled a little in the casual blatant joking classism. With her gone, and Sausage seeming to consider himself leader (getting indignant when someone suggested that Jellie lead the Kestrels), the Kestrels might have an opportunity to corrupt and become even more villainous. It would seem like a waste if they were eliminated before they had a chance to become memorable villains, though maybe there is a reason for that. After all, one of the easiest ways to make a villain scarier is to have them kill the lesser villain off (some good examples are Toffee from Star VS and The Mayor from Lego Monkie Kid, even though Toffee didn't really kill Ludo).
Now if the People of the Yellow Ship (YES, I'M TRYING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN) were smart, the faction they'd target next would be the one that poses the biggest threat. This could be two, really. The Kites pose the stronger physical threat, of course. They're all fighters, and the Kites seem to have the least qualms about killing, if things come to that. If it comes down to a physical altercation between Kites and Yellows, the Kites would presumably win (unless we simply haven't seen the true force of the People yet. That would be interesting, if the faction set up as the most physically powerful was less than the villains (after all, a Kite was the first to die to the vines), though I wouldn't expect that from fictional cultists. Something about them just gives a d&d wizard vibe, if you know what I mean)
The other next best choice to attempt to eliminate (assuming, of course, that the villains are tactical like this) would be the Herons. Discovery is literally in their bio, and they seem like the most likely to play detective. If the Herons discover what the People of the Yellow Ship are up to, then they could rally the entire rest of the Faction Isles, and all the pirates from all the other branches across the archipelago, to take down the threat of presumably smaller numbers (unless some don't believe them, or the writers want to make a political allegory and have them not be able to all come together even in crisis (I watched Don't Look Up yesterday.)). The People have a branch (if abandoned-looking) on the Isle itself, which might even mean that they have a spy on the inside, pardon the paranoia. But this gives the Herons an opportunity to investigate without even leaving home, which honestly must be terrifying for them.
The Nightingales have some overlap with the Herons, but they seem to value adventure more for the thrill, for the personal experience rather than documentation. The type to judge a Heron for taking pictures while on vacation, if it were a modern setting. Combine that with the fact that I haven't seen many Nightingales so far, and this makes it seem like they'd be the least threatening to the cult. The cult might even view the Nightingales as distractable bleeding-heart losers who care about family, yuck. /j This puts them at the least risk.
Now, who does that leave to be, if all goes to plan, the last one standing? HeyGraecie (I've never heard of you before, sorry), the only character revealed yet to have been a Nightingale since before this year's Factioning. And... Acho. The one who left the Herons for the "family" faction. The one who has a brother who will probably be targeted next.
Damn... between you, Acho, and Olive... I hope you both at least are allowed to attempt to be heroes.

First, Breastforce claimed that their entire interest in this started from Marco in a dress from St. O's. The person asking about Marco in a dress was trying to bait Adam into saying something about the theory.
Most people who repeat the theory do it because of the dress, not the "dysphoria" (which is actually body dysmorphic, involving obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance.)
I know that you're not going to believe any of this. It's upsetting to see you misgender anything, especially when I've been misgendered so many times in the last 6 years. Also your comments about my physical state don't help, making a joke out of it is cruel which is how I interpreted it.
And being transphobic is another jump to conclusion that doesn't make either of us look.good. I'm not transphobic. I'm transgender and have had years of reflection on iit. Calling me transphobic is like a punch in the gut.
As far as Daron, all she said was that she always intended Marco to be the type of guy who wasn't hung up on doing some things that are typically feminine without any concerns for his masculinity. It seems from an experience she had when she was young with her best friend who was male. When I asked her if Marco was going to grow up and be a good male role model, she said yes. Twice she did.
I won't deny I love the character a lot. I won't deny that some of the crew liked that some people saw themselves in Marco. But even if you look at the storyboard that everyone points to, it was a doll of a persona Marco already distanced himself from except for a royalty payment of $650. It was a capitalist business deal and nothing more. That's all the merch was ever about. A way to give Marco spending money during adventures. It wasn't about some secret "he's going as a she" behind everyone's back. It was all about the money. If Marco really cared about it on the level you theorize, he wouldn't have taken money out of the profits and would have done it in the best interests of the girls.
In conclusion I see this is misgendering. While it is a fictional character, some of the ways you've interacted with me have also been along the same lines, about me being transphobic and making light of my physical problems which is hitting below the belt.
Hi. I've been nice to you thus far. I've argued with you on your level, I've met your points on good faith. I've countered every argument you've given me with relative politeness considering how you've harassed me and my community, or ignored you when i was tired of said harassment. But now?
Get fucked, mate.
Where the fuck do you get off with this? Where do you see the moral high ground attacking trans people - OTHER trans people! - for finding identity with a character in a cartoon, in a community on tumblr. How childish are you that you cannot fathom other people having different interpretations of the source material. How petty and small-mided and hateful can you possibly be that you see trans people finding joy and community in a fictional character on tumblr and decide that it's hateful. How puritanical is your mindset that you cannot stand the idea of other people existing outside of your point of view.
Jen has said that she's not angry at you but I fucking am. Grow the fuck up you petulant, whinging, tantrum-throwing child. Flinging baseless accusations - I've never talked about your physical state, I barely know what it is beyond you being physically disabled in some way, which I found out after the majority of my interactions with you. I'm sorry, but you do not get to use your own problems as justifications for bullying and attacking others. You do not get to play the victim when it is you going after people apropos of nothing. It is you sending hate to fan artists just minding their own business, it is you going into our tags to complain about how we enjoy and interpret media.
And no, I don't fucking stalk you so I didn't know you were trans. Congratu-fucking-lations asshole! Looks like trans people can be just as toxic as the cis! Thanks for taking one for the team! And I'm sowwy that it's huwwrtful but your harassment and condemnation of the theory fucking stinks of transphobia. If you just disliked the theory, that's fine - I know plenty of polite and nice and non-transphobic people who don't think it's correct - people like Adam McArthur who would be appalled at your harassment at people over different interpretations of his character. Dozens of other tumblr users dislike the theory and they don't fall into your emotionally manipulative bullshit. That's a you specific problem.
(and while we're on the cast/crew topic: Daron Nefcy would be appalled at your use of her words as a gotcha for your bullshit cyber bullying. they mean nothing other than her affirming your interpretation of the character)
Your preposition is fundamentally flawed, you base your entire judgement of this theory on the fact that the idea started when a trans woman related to a character in a way you didn't think was valid. Your idea that somehow feminine men are underrepresented in fiction is completely ridiculous. But to go the fuck off about how even being perceived as a trans woman is dangerous to cishet men and then land on the conclusion that the problem is trans women? That's fucking transphobic.
But fine. You're trans so you can't be transphobic. You must of course have a ready list for canonical trans women for us to have flocked to back in 2016 when the theory was popular! Actually, I managed to find four examples (off the top of my head) of major characters in children's cartoons, the genre we're talking about. So you must be able to find the same! No? What about that same list from today? C'mon! If feminine men are so underrepresented compared to trans women, there must be more of them today at least! Fine we'll make it easy - it doesn't have to be a children's cartoon! Show me any western cartoon from any point in history where there was a trans woman as a major character. She doesn't even have to be the main character! Just a part of the reoccurring cast.
Show. Me. One.
But somehow those poor cis men are the ones victimized by us mean trans people.
I'm so fucking sorry you feel personally victimized by (other) trans people seeking representation. I'm so fucking sorry you are so badly triggered by (other) trans people (many of whom have dysphoria) identifying dysphoria in a work of fiction. But--newsflash asshole!--you don't get to bring your problems into a public space and harass people about them. You are the one in the wrong here, but your head is too far up your own arse to even dream about treating other people like actual human beings.
So, yeah. You're an immature, transphobic, bullying piece of shit and I want you to stay the fuck away from me, my friends, and my fucking tags.
#trans marco#anon hate#discourse#/anti#cw transphobia#oh i can't wait for you to pull the victim card on this one#oh im also autistic btw#cause i feel like you might try to use that card next#nipping that one in the bud

I hate when shows try to market to gen z, especially when it's with woke stuff or internet jokes. Because for one thing it dates it immidirntly, the jokes aren't going to be funny. And for another they always throw away the shows charming aspects to do it.
Clone high is a good example. I get that it's a pilot and it's a pitch and not a final product, but it doesn't have the charm of the original show at all. The 90s aspect was a huge draw and modernizing it felt forced. They leaned far too hard on the "they're cool bc they're uncool," trope. It's been done to death and isn't accurate either. Yes there's more room for non conventional people to be popular but there's reason for it. The new characters are just super annoying. And that joke lasting fir longer than 20 minutes is drop worthy.
The character bashing isn't done well. The focus on Abe was important to the original show and watching him fumble around isn't fun. He needs to have some redeeming qualities or he's just grating.
Jfk wouldn't have bothered me if the other characters didn't suck.
Joan getting along with people who share her interest is great. But those characters aren't funny or interesting. Her character is really bland without antics to straight man for.
It looked like they tried to make up for the lack of chaos with more gracious injury. It doesn't work.
Cleopatra is supposed to be conniving. Her being put in place by people she never would have reflected could be funny. But instead she spends the whole episode scoffing and being an idiot. She should of bounced back quicker. She should of been allowed to keep her bitchy character.
This wasn't supposed to be a clone high rant but that's what's happening now.
The lack of Gandhi throws off the cadence (? Not the pacing but the delivery beats of the story) completely. The original plan before the og show was cancelled was to make him the clone of a comedian. I wish they'd done that, maybe setting it up immediately by someone calling out their names as they're dethawed. But I get that there were issues fir the company. They should have dealt with his absence better though. The jokes drag where he could have been.
I wish writers wouldn't try to write this made up version of modern teenagers. It does not make for good tv. I have heard that the story was mostly network dictated and the writers didn't have much control, though I don't know how true that is. I'm impulse writing this I only watched the pilot once when it originally leaked.
I was originally excited about clone high season two, but it looks like it's just going to be like every other adult animated show. Which makes me sad.
Edit: sudworth is still the best part. The shadowy figure replacement sucked tho.
Edit 2: i love joanfk and hope they keep them together. Also, if we get a clone of Nikola tesla beating the shit out of some capitalists I will forgive all of the shows faults. All of them.

ok my brother fell asleep (we were the last 2 awake) & I can’t decide what Christmas special to watch next on my own (I’m tipsy but wide awake) SO guess you guys are getting a post on a movie my family watched earlier today where I fell into my typical “IT (must be)‘s EXHAUSTING ALWAYS ROUTING FOR THE ANTI HERO!!” I WILL route for the *character that’s not actually that bad but the narrative wants us to hate them* mode
let’s fucking TALK about Cousin Mel!!! because she’s actually the legit hero of “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” despite the film (apparently? it’s a weird fucking movie I forgot how weird it is lmao) wanting you to believe otherwise
first of all —- Cousin Mel is introduced as a “villain” ( the quotation marks are SO necessary ) because… & I’m serious here… she doesn’t want Grandma to keep giving shit away for FREE from her STORE. that’s it. that’s literally it. And little Jake (I think that’s his name but we’ve also watched several shows & movies since then & this kid is such a brat he doesn’t deserve for me to google his name) thinks this is a REAL asshole move. also, despite being told by multiple people that Santa is fake, Jake insists on believing & Cousin Mel is framed as SOOoOO evil for mocking him. even tho… his mom sister & dad ALSO tell him Santa is fake..
then the ENTIRE spankenheimer family give up the search for Grandma AND seem exhausted running the store.
but when Austin Butler wants to buy it for MILLIONS ( YES that’s a quote) & Cousin Mel wants to take the deal, SHE’S evil for that just because baby brat jAkE is against the idea??? because??! Sentimentality I fucking guess? Excuse me??? Ex fuckkng SCUSE me??
Also!! also. I would like to point out that Jake’s family are EXCITED about the deal also!!! his parents are hyped to retire. grandpa is ready for some cash. jake’s sister would get college funded. like…. selling this stupid fucking store would he good for EVERYONE
and then. and then. I MAYBE (maybe) could’ve accepted the ending with Santa getting off Scott free for his hit & run (side note WHY don’t we ever talk about the “got run over by a reindeer” amnesia ward that casually exists in the North Pole in this movie?? ?grandma wasn’t the only victim!!) (Santa in this universe SHOULD be prosecuted!!) but instead of being an anti capitalist “aww let grandma run her small business” message.. the movie ends with Austin butler franchising Grandma’s store & her casually getting run over AGAIN as a JOKE
literally Cousin Mel’s only “crimes” were disliking Christmas (fair, her entire family hated her for no reason), not wanting the family business to give shit away for free, & prosecuting Santa for a crime he DID commit!!!!
cousin mel was the fu king HERO of this movie & I won’t hear otherwise!!!!!
also.
these two 1000000% had a thing

What is Succession about? And do you have fav characters
Well, Succession is...how do I put it? Succession is about a portal, ok? There's this big portal above New York City, big mean world-destroying portal, right? And this portal is in the care of business magnate, media monarch, shaper of views creator of news Logan 'L to the OG' Roy. Now, Logan has been keeping the portal alive for years by being a billionaire capitalist and abusing his children mentally and even physically, but hold on to your hats, because Logan is getting old! Now it's up to his three heirs Kenny, Romey, and Shivvy (I think there's another one but who gives a shit) to battle it out for dominance and see who's the top dog of the last great american dynasty. Will they continue the cycle, or will they finally close the portal once and for all? Find out on HBO's Emmy award wining series, Succession.
(Well, jokes aside...it's kinda like that, right? It's about the Roy family and the fight for control of their media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo now that patriarch Logan is getting older and closer to death. It's a drama, it's also a comedy, it will make you sob and it's incredibly worth the watch. The character's are the heart and soul of the show and yes, they will get you screaming and crying about stock photos of people in suits in boardrooms. It's like a Shakespearean tragedy but with billionaires, it's great).
As for my fave characters, well, I've always been a Kendall Girl, I can't deny it.
I'm also a Shiv Girl, because look at her. I support women's rights AND women's wrongs, baby!
Bonus fave characters include...well, most of the ladies! We love Gerri, Karolina, Jess, Rava, etc. in this house!
#no idea if you actually wanted a summary but i couldn't not go for the joke lmao#succession sundays are over they were very fun i think all shows should be weekly tbh#but yeah if anyone hasn't watch succession yet you should go for it#succession#juli answers

I completely agree with what you said about Harley and Ivy. Speaking of, I wanted to ask you what do you think about Joker's gayness/queerness and his relationship with Harley Quinn and the way he's constantly straightwashed with her. Also what do you think about Harley being in Joker 2 played by Lady Gaga. Did you like the first movie?
Anonymous asked: What's your preferred Joker design and characterization?
i'm assuming these are the same person so i'm putting them together. i think the notion of 'queerness' is a meaningless, vague one but yes, i do agree that the joker has been historically gaycoded like the vast majority of golden/silver age villains and regardless of what's been done to him for the past couple decades i definitely would consider him gay and most modern canon material has made that fact very explicit vis a vis his obsession with/love for batman. i mean, hell, i haven't been a die hard joker fan for a long time now (though i remain an enthusiast as ever) and moments like batman/catwoman 2020 #10 still made me gasp
i'm still the guy who made the compilation of the tom king school of gay homosexuality after all, and i stand by the joker characterisation seen in his work (esp batman 2016, dc nation #0, batman/catwoman 2020 and adjacent stuff like all the wedding preludes). that just about covers my preferred characterisation, although i personally lean more towards the humanity seen in the killing joke -- because to me tkj is a story about humanity above all else -- where for all his horrific acts joker ultimately wants to know that he's not alone. that it's not just him. that anybody could've had that one bad day.
design-wise, i like it when he's unnaturally tall and lanky in a nice visual contrast to a more bulky compact batman. no scars for me ever, bleached skin from ace & makeup as desired. think alan davis' joker in det comics 1937 #570 or around there, that's my all time favourite one.
as for the 2019 movie, i've said it once and i'll say it again: i legitimately honest-to-god saw it weekly for the entirety of its theatrical run. i genuinely think it's a completely revolutionary film even if general audiences refuse to see it as such, i think joaquin went all the way with playing gay and i think he & todd created a portrait of a mentally ill working class man systematically failed by capitalist society like absolutely nobody has ever managed in modern mainstream cinema. it's not a lesser taxi driver or king of comedy, it is precisely that for a generation of cinema goers who have forgotten the language of the medium. it's astounding. i'm immensely excited for the sequel, lady gaga as harley included because if we had to have one at least they went with the gayest choice possible.
alright thank you & goodnight (morning, actually). i'm happy to discuss joker 2019 all day every day but this is the last harley quinn-related convo i'll be entertaining for a little while.

You know what? I was gonna leave a rant in the tags but fuck that.
If you try to avoid the inherent queerness of The Little Mermaid, then that is erasure.
"But Red, don't that mean the original film is erasure too?"
Yes! But at the very least the OG film has other things going for it as an original piece of media. But this movie is meant to be a reinterpretation of the film. And while having Ariel played by a black actress is certainly a step forward in the right way (especially since personally I've always felt it doesn't make sense for there to be light-skinned mermaids,) its obvious that Disney is using their allowance of one (1) mildly progressive thing to cover for the way they are trying to dance around the lack of queerness in this film.
The original story was written by a closeted gay man, and is widely considered to have been inspired by the feelings that come from loving another man that you know will never love you back. When gays and sapphics obsess with mermaids it's not just because we're all monster-fuckers, it's because queerness has been a part of mermaids since the beginning.
And it's a bad thing that this isn't present in the original, but at the very least the original had Ursula. An iconic character whose design and vocal performance was heavily inspired by Divine, an icon in the drag community. And Disney hasn't been opposed to drag... when it's a joke.
But when it comes to using a drag queen a serious performer, for a character that can only be improved by being played by an actual drag queen, suddenly they don't want to touch it, not even in the make-up department.
"Well maybe they don't want the only queer character to be the villain!"
Didn't stop them from doing just that in the live action Beauty and the Beast. You could argue that maybe they just don't want to make that mistake again, but the obvious solution is not to remove all gayness from their films, it's to have an actual gay protagonist. They don't even have to change Prince Eric's gender to do that, just make Ariel bi. Have her reference or show attraction to females as well as males. Hell, that would be the kind of easy-to-edit-out representation that disney loves these days. But if they're doing it, they certainly don't want people to know about it like they did every other time they put a gay in a thing.
We haven't forgotten Florida. Or how they screwed over The Owl House. We did forget Strange Worlds, tho, but how could we not? Their own movie, which actually did have an honest-to-god-not-just-in-implication-or-innuendo gay protagonist, strangely got the shaft in terms of promotion and distribution the way no other animated film of theirs has been in years.
Even now, when almost every other media company has finally, begrudgingly, allowed queerness into their media, Disney remains three steps behind at all times. Still stuck on vague girlbossiness and wanting pats on the back for occasionally letting non-white people do things while everyone else is making art that is unabashedly, unashamedly black, queer, anti-capitalist, and so on.
They would rather this, rather stay behind the curve just to not tick off bigots, then give anyone else the barest table-scraps of representation. Corporations already don't care about us, but of them all I'd argue that Disney is one of the biggest ones. They'll gladly take our money, but they will not recognize us as human.
Baffling
