i think that what draws them together is also the thing that drives them apart. I think theyre both very good listeners :] i think that glisten has relied on rodger as someone he could talk to and get advice from for a long time (based on how toodles says he "cries and complains" to rodger all the time)... rodger has always been able to read him really well and knows EXACTLY what the fuck is up at all times which is, again, absolutely terrifying to glisten because hes left so vulnerable but also comforting. He doesnt know what rodgers intentions are at first or what he thinks of glisten but hes patient and caring which is relieving, especially when glisten doesnt talk abt his issues to anyone else lol . It takes a looonngg time but glisten does eventually get rodger to open up too :] i think glisten very good at cheering people up just in general. Sometime its a bit of a chore for him (referencing the boxten/glisten notes) but hes learned how to listen very well and is great at being a distraction after they get it all out. starting off with gi-hun, in my mind he's very demure when it comes to the relationship. behind closed doors he likes the domesticity, physicality and romantic gestures. REASONING BEING: i firmly believe gi-hun never would have married if not for societal and familial pressure, now whether or not its bc he's gay or not (i'm personally on the fence abt that) is up to y'alls discretion. but back to the original point: he had a very idealized view of marriage until he actually got married, and something broke inside him when his marriage failed, and in-ho knows that to some degree. I imagine on valentines or some other holiday, they're just sitting in the bedroom together in the dark, and gi-hun quietly divulges he used to do big romantic gestures like this with his wife, even when he didn't have a lot to offer until things got bad in the end, and it makes him SO tender and sensitive in private, let alone in public. HOWEVER i believe this only applies to gi-hun in korea. When they go on vacation or end up going to the US, he's much more comfortable with hand holding and displaying his ring on his finger instead of keeping it on a chain around his neck like he did in korea. THAT BEING SAID. he loves in-ho. in a deeper way than he loved his wife, and he knows it. the trust is deeper, and he's true to himself, which is something that he could never do before without being shamed for how pitiful he was. in-ho accepts him in that pitifulness an out and he loves him for it. the attraction to how handsome he is and his cute little mannerisms come after.

because i am a generic loser, i side with the "in-ho is obsessed w gi-hun" camp bc a) its true and b) its true so.

i think in-ho's obsession to some degree is fueled by his guilt. we know from HDH he still has some belief deep down that gi-hun is right, and hopes he can prove him wrong in the long run. Thus, his obsession comes from watching every micro-fucking-movement he makes and hyper analyzing like a doofus. he doesn't realize until there's a little bit of separation that there was actually a decent chunk of his hyperfixation that was actually just into him lowkey. gi-hun is different from his late wife in nearly every way save the fucking. stubbornness. hard angles and naivety, but beautiful in his humanity, something in-ho lost when his wife died. he falls in love because gi-hun has enough humanity for both of them, in spite of everything. he brings him back to the simple, past the whiskey and jazz in his sterile habitat back to the noise, something he didn't know he missed.

in-ho likes doing romantic things. bouquets, expensive cufflinks, decorating the kitchen with shitty streamers on holidays, bringing breakfast in bed. at first gi-hun was very "no, no, you don't have to" but when in-ho genuinely, unironically pitches a fit about it when gi-hun carries his breakfast in bed to the kitchen to eat at the table, gi-hun lets him. if he's not bringing him breakfast in bed he's making gi-hun a plate but feeding him off of his.

been learning about radical feminism in the past year and i have completely reevaluated my beliefs about gender ideology. now im just so stuck on the idea of, how can identifying as another gender not be fundamentally regressive, sexist, and upholding gender norms? how can men just identify out of oppression? but now idk what to do holding these beliefs because truly all my friends would have serious issues with me if i were ever to voice this. in fact, i have close friends who are trans, and there are many trans people in my wider social circle (one of whom specifically made me so uncomfortable in a "female" space that it contributed to me unlearning my previous beliefs abt gender ideology). i attend a super liberal university where in a recent english class my professor even made a comment about jk rowling being an evil terf now.

i feel like i'm walking around with a dirty secret. i feel like i can't discuss these ideas with anyone irl, not even my girlfriend. it would fundamentally change her view of me as she as an incredibly vocal trans ally. i could see her breaking up with me for these beliefs; i could see many friends distancing themselves from me. i'm just wondering how you navigate a social world like this with radfem beliefs ahhhh

i feel you on the “dirty secret” aspect! i can try to give some advice since i’m in a very similar situation (minus the fact i live in a conservative area.)

due to my appearance (i’m visibly gay) i usually only attract TRA & ‘queer’ types to me. my friends are all TRA or some variant of “genderqueer.” i only have one friend ive been able to confide my beliefs to, and she’s more a closet conservative type so we really only agree on trans issues. I will say, if you can find even one person that you can speak freely with it’ll be a huge weight off your chest. Whenever I see this one friend we both just ramble because we can finally talk about shit that we can’t comfortably talk about with anyone else.

the way i’ve gone about managing my friendships with TRAs is to simply never bring up trans (or controversial radfem) topics. i avoid it like the plague, will change topic, and if directly questioned on something i will play the dumb and innocent role, aka just pretending to not understand but intend as coming from a good place. you should evaluate which of your friendships putting up this facade will be worth it, because it gets exhausting fast. i have some trans friends, but they’re all the “genderfluid/nonbinary AFAB who goes by any pronouns” type who present extremely feminine at all times, never even push the boundaries of gender expression honestly which is funny. (literally theyfabs lol) They dont care that i always use she/her and they honestly never bring up gender stuff with me. these type of girls aren’t too bad to be around as i feel they’re not as far gone as some TIPs are who actually take the steps to transition, etc. Being around a hardcore TIF or TIM might be a more difficult friendship to maintain.

Regarding your significant other, you should consider if this is a breaking point in your relationship. For me it’s not since my gf was generally uninformed about trans issues like the dangers of males in womens prisons, unfairness in sports, why oppressed is sex based and not gender based, etc. We’ve had discussions about this, where i explained my reasoning for being against these issues & she actually ended up agreeing after I showed her the facts. She’s still ‘pro-trans’ but is much more reasonable about it & thinks majority trans people just wanna live their life (which who can argue with that!) If this type of open conversation isn’t something you think could be achievable with your gf, you guys might just not be compatible.

It sounds like you live in a very liberal area & so my advice to you would be to see if there’s any radical feminist organizations near you. I think finding other people who think the same as you will help you feel less guilty. It’ll probably be hard since most radfems are secretive about their beliefs (for obvious reasons lol) but i’m sure you’ll find someone eventually.

ah yes i did! i am in a lit of the self class and we've started to talk a lot about stoicism... i got a lot of what's below from my notes from my profs lectures!! i hope this is at least a bit helpful <333 thanks for letting me nerd out about philosophy

idk how much he actually subscribed to stoicism or tried to implement these ideas into his life/lifestyle but i think there are a lot of similarities/parallels here in some of his concerns abt npc behavior, porn, etc.

stoicism broadly is based on the principle- or duty, of exercising free will and that reason (or logos) governs the universe. your duty to yourself is also equal to your duty to others, there is an emphasis on how you treat others, there is a sense of duty and purpose larger than oneself.

there is also a large emphasis on apathy, avoiding passions bc passions destroy ur efficiency. we can't take care of or even become ourselves if we are governed by our desires... very big on self control.

but at the root of stoicism is an encouragement to find and seek an inner state of indifference. this idea of indifference; that everything in nature is reasonable, you must accept- and even love, your fate and what is allotted to you... i think it can appeal to people in chronic pain.

achieving and seeking a state of indifference towards what you cannot control is incredibly hard, rumination is so easy, it's so easy to feel incredibly bitter and angry when you're in pain. i totally get why he might have been drawn to this and tbh i am also attracted to this pillar of stoicism! bc it's not like you can ever achieve painlessness so seeking indifference and peace and acceptance becomes a more realistic and healthy goal.

stoics believe you can withstand pain through the fortitude you can cultivate in your mind. this temperance and discipline can override this physical sensation of pain. also stoicism's emphasis on free will... chronic pain strips you of your agency, control over your own body, your free will.. again i can see why stoicism's very large emphasis on having a duty to retain and enact your free will would be attractive to someone.

when specifically talking about him as a man: the ideal stoic is virtuous, and masculine. at the root of stoicism (esp historically) is this very traditional idea of masculinity and discipline like it's a very gendered philosophy inherently.

obviously we dont know the extent of his back issues re intimacy but as someone w the same back probs... i can see how a man would feel emasculated. tbh not even just in a sexual context; chronic pain can feel very isolating and very dehumanizing in general. again, i can see how the emphasis on your mental strength and fortitude would appeal to a man who cannot find that in their physical strength or has had that stripped away from them. since physicality is so strongly linked to masculinity

i think though this can all be a slippery slope for men and can easily be weaponized to peddle much more harmful/shittier ideologies. like these grifters and weirdos who are so big on ‘the roman man’ and ancient culture in general and returning to that ideal… i also think there is a huge toxic masculinity element to this but what do i know! it's interesting, there are a lot of ideas of stoicism that appeal to me as someone with chronic back issues...

ig overall stoicism to me to is about looking inward for a sense of purpose and agency. but i think important to note that stoicism is also societally and historically contextualized by and understood through the hyper-masculine roman society it was a product of.
