you've heard of "quiet quitting," now I'd like to introduce you to the next level, The French Work Ethic:
Do exactly what you're paid for and nothing more
Absolutely refuse to be available to contact when you're off the clock
Never prioritize work over your own health, wellbeing, or family because that would be insane, it's just a job.
Have a little glass of wine
Take as long as you feel like for lunch
Deeply understand that work doesn't matter
Make sure your boss knows they're always your second priority ❤️
#unfortnately we cant have the best and truest parts of french working which are:#free heathcare tons of vacation good labour laws and fair wages#but hey we can at least have the french work ethic#live from the musain#france#step six if the boss is mistreating you execute him

still thinking about the brainrot that fast fashion has caused in people, like i made this pair of pants that are black and white with a cool flowery design, and an acquaintance saw them and said "wow i'd pay like 20 dollars for you to make me a pair" and i could barely think with how utterly horrified i was at that; i told them that 20 dollars wouldn't even cover the materials, let alone the hours of work that went into cutting, sewing, ironing, hemming, altering, etc. they just had this look on their face when i told them that, when i said i wouldn't make them a pair for even 100 dollars because that was still way too low of an amount, a look that said "you're crazy for thinking that those cost 100 dollars" and maybe i am crazy but holy shit, 20 dollars for a pair of handmade, durable, lined pants fitted specifically to your measurements? 20 dollars for upwards of 60 hours of work? 20 dollars for several yards of high-quality fabric, thread, and buttons? 20 dollars???
#i mean even fast fashion companies charge more than 20 dollars for their shitty sweatshop jeans with exposed seams and standardised sizes#but in this world my acquaintance thought it was appropriate to tell me that my skill and supplies and labour was worth 20 dollars at most#20 dollars is all i'm worth because apparently that is all that my skill and labour and time is worth#like i can't even begin to describe how blindly angry i was at my friend and at the world that made them say that#anyway

Canada’s postal worker strike is nearing the end of its second week with no sign of movement from Canada Post after negotiations broke down earlier this week. While 55,000 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been on the picket lines since November 15 fighting to protect their pensions, improve working conditions and push for higher wages that keep pace with inflation, media coverage of the strike has tended to focus on anti-worker narratives rather than the reasons postal workers went on strike. Now, even as the union says the employer is moving to lay off striking workers, common headlines centre around the impact of service disruptions on the general public —a similar talking point being used by Canada Post.

Asking for professional references is the most embarrassing thing on planet earth. "Hi can you tell people I'm smart and nice and pretty" what if we all just ran out into the streets and rent our garments publically

so a lot of ideological tradwives pursue the line of argument that feminism denigrates traditionally womens work (i.e. housekeeping, childrearing) by suggesting that feminists want to push all women to do "men's work" and dismiss the value of mothers and homemakers.
setting aside the obvious untruth of this- feminists have always been the strongest fighters for recognising the worth of womens work- its interesting when juxtaposed with the tradwife line that retiring from paid employment and settling into domestic life is relaxing, natural, and suitable for womens more delicate selves. they suggest that feminism pushes women to run themselves ragged rather than living a relaxed existence at home, cared for by their husbands.
but this itself is rooted in the devaluing of domestic labour, because it understands it as easy, simple, and fundamentally Not Real Work. its an important part of the tradwife project to glorify homemaking while also denying its difficulty, to promise women they will be valued in their domestic role while stripping away recognition of that value. its not an original observation that tradwife influencers often live in massive sparkling homes clearly cared for by domestic servants while they show off their hobbies, but its important to note this is not only a way to attract viewers to an idealised vision but also a systematic tactic to devalue the real worth of domestic labour
#feminism#to be clear homemaking and childrearing is incredibly valuable! and we should recognise it as the difficult labour it is#not glorify it as relaxing

From the UK's 2024 General Election, after a recount - Labour won Hendon by 15 votes. Never say your individual vote won't matter.
#uk politics#vote#and also this is a good reminder to vote tactically - Green and LibDem each picked up several thousand. tactical voting would have#secured a more stable victory for Labour here - it's lucky the Tory vote got split with Reform as well

Me: "hey game developers, especially AAA ones, are getting laid off en-mass and it's awful for our industry" Gamer: "well I only play INDIE games and the problem with AAA games is they are creatively bankrupt"
Me, slamming my fists on the table like a baby: "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS IS ABOUT A BUSINESS PROBLEM PERPETUATED BY CAPITALISM NOT A STATEMENT ON CREATIVE DECISION MAKING"
#look I think AAA should make weirder games also but I wish we stopped treating that like some kind of solution and not just a fun idea#the problem is capitalism. its always capitalim#its not like AAA studios would have less problems if they made weird indie games lol#also hey spoiler alert: indie studios need to organize their labour too#in fact I think the organizing movement would be stronger if more indies adopted it first#anyway im busy so imma mute some posts now#thoughts#blog
