Talking about BEAST Atsushi x Canon Akutagawa is so funny because the only thought that went through my head is how much of a hell pair they would be if they meet. It’s very much the epitome of “Cares Too Much” x “Couldn’t Care Enough” if you personified them
BEAST Atsushi breaking down, never having a good day in his life: H
Canon Akutagawa, Joey Diaz voice with the American Anthem in the background: Get up cocksucker, it’s all over. Listen we had a rough couple of months but we got work to do—

Sai!! what are YOUR ada chuuya hcs?
Ohh this is going to be a long post so hold tight. Here are some of my hcs on ada chuuya based on asgr's idea (chuuya deflects with dazai)
> When they first join, they refuse to be partnered with anyone else in the agency. Despite claiming to hate each other it's clear that they share an unbreakable trust. They're not really inseparable, but they're always in each other's orbit. Both have a wall built around themselves but are also confined within a wall together, haunted by a past they share.
> Every mission they're sent to ends in success but with a cost of some destruction and agency money. Fukuzawa let's them be.
> Ranpo is the one Chuuya is most wary of at first. He's a genius on an equal footing of Dazai, if not a step ahead of him. Ranpo seemed to know too much and Chuuya hates it. Until the detective tells him, "People are built of both truths and lies, you know. I can tell both, but it's up to you how you're going to build yourself, and there isn't much to see for me beyond that." Chuuya held onto those words, feeling like he was truly given a chance to find himself, for himself and not for any greater purpose for the first time.
> His first Dazai less mission is with Ranpo, and he's amazed by the detective's ability. Even more amazed by how unprofessional he is, almost to a disrespectful extent. It's a bit like Dazai, but Ranpo doesn’t wear a mask like the other guy.
> So they both learn to trust, bit by bit, and settle right in. Fast forward to a few months later, Chuuya works with Ranpo and Dazai with Kunikida.
> When Atsushi joins, Chuuya is immediately reminded of Akutagawa and how Dazai had treated him. Part of him fears the history to repeat itself, but it doesn't. Dazai takes the kid under his wing and guides him in his own Dazai way, but it's unlike how it was in port mafia. Dazai has changed, and so has he. Maybe they aren't too gone to be saved.
The ghost of the past is still there, but it's not haunting them anymore. It's simply watching from the sideline, fading, as if saying goodbye.
> Chuuya keeps a framed picture of the flags on his desk.
> The girls are very curious about Chuuya's hair care routine, especially Naomi. He's also good at hairstyling and styles Kyouka and Naomi's hair sometimes. Needless to say, he's invited to girls' sleepovers.
> Chuuya is like a big brother to Kenji. They compete on strength, like who can hold the most stuff with one hand and all that. Dazai nullifies his ability mid competition one time, and Chuuya throws him out of the window.
> Kunikida and Chuuya don't get along at first, but they sort of become best friends eventually. One time Kunikida comes back after a mission with Dazai and starts shaking Chuuya.
"How. How did you do it for so long? How did you not go insane?" Chuuya laughs.
> Chuuya is very caring. No matter how much effort he puts into being subtle about it, it's obvious to everyone. He leaves energy drinks on people's desks, carries heat packs with him in winter in case someone needs one, and makes sure everyone has breakfast. The ADA is his family now, he's going to treasure them with everything he has.
> Chuuya stops by Dazai's desk one day and simply says, "Osamu," (cue Dazai snapping out of his doze and nearly hitting his chin on the desk) "thanks, for not leaving me behind." And he fucking leaves, bolts away almost, face hidden by hair but Dazai can tell he's trying to hide tears. But that aside, he still hasn't gotten over Chuuya calling him by first name.
("Ne Dazai, can you stop smiling by yourself like that? It's creeping me out." "Ranpo san, I think I'm in love with Chuuya." "Congrats, you're the last person in the agency to figure it out.")

Chapter 5 - Never enough
Summary: Y/N goes out with Kyouka for a flat hunt. Izuku gets smacked in the face - Once by a random teen and once by his Sweet Pea.
Warnings: Swear words, mentions of a toxic relationship (in the past).
First Chapter Master List
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
Kyouka comes over a few hours after Izuku leaves; he didn’t really say goodbye after your conversation in the bedroom this morning, which was quite surprising and he also left an untouched sandwich on the table, filled with his favorite stuff, which is also… well… really fucking weird, but okay. To be fair, there is so much happening all at once it’s easy to go all silly, especially at 5 AM in the morning. Maybe it took him so long to make his sandwich he ended up being late and instead of bringing it with him he just left it on the table. Even though, Izuku must be aware that he owns a cat so leaving food on the table isn’t the smartest idea. Thankfully, All Meowt is the laziest motherfucker the word has ever seen and jumping on the table to get some nibbles is way too much of a lbother for him, hence why the food is still in tact.
Sometimes you wonder if All Meowt is even a cat; he doesn’t scratch furniture, doesn’t eat anything he needs to work for, barely jumps on anything and he’s just… a part of the furniture. A furry little sofa pillow. He’s also really smart as somehow he knew you are the one who messed with his automatic feeder because to this day, he didn’t even approach you once when Izuku wasn’t around. Except when you sleep. Then he cuddles. He probably hopes you stay that way forever.
“Okay, I managed to get a viewing for flat 2 and flat 4.” Kyouka mumbles to herself after putting her phone down. You look at the girl incredulously. “Don’t look at me like that, I know flat 4 is pricy as fudge, but with my current salary, I can afford it. I won’t have a bunch to spend for a few months but if I make it to the top 10 next year, it won’t be a problem!”
You know Kyouka like you know the back of your hand; there is no reason to even look at flat 2 at this point, this silly woman has already decided to get that fancy ass flat and there is probably an extremely ridiculous reason behind it.
“Be honest with me…” You look at your bestie, trying your best not to look judgmental. “Why do you want that flat?”
Kyouka looks down at her hands, her cheeks ruddy from embarassment. “My favorite rockstar lives in the same building… you know the one with black hair and the sick angel wing tattoo.” Kyouka answers while she plays with her bangs like a stupid school girl.
There it is. There it fucking is.
“So you decided to spend all your life savings for a few minutes of neighborly banter with your Bae.” You really can’t believe this silly woman.
“Oh my god, you are literally dating your favorite hero, sorry if your stupid love story made me believe in fated love!” She yells and you can’t help but laugh at that.
“Hey, it didn’t cost me anything to fall in love with him though! Plus we are not official yet!” Now it’s your turn to be embarrassed.
“Oh fuck off, Izuku wouldn’t even poke you with a foot long pole if he wouldn’t want you to be his fucking wife in the next few years. My bro isn’t playing around. He’s had enough of that shit when he was young.”
Well, that’s a new information.
“What do you mean?”
Kyouka sighs.
“It’s not my place you tell you this and to be honest I don’t know too much about it, Katsuki is probably the best one to ask but… there was this girl, right after high school who was all over Izuku after his first debut. We told him to stay away from her, we warned him that she’s only after the fame and the money but Izuku was so happy to be liked by someone in a romantic way he didn’t fucking listen to any of us…” Kyouka’s eyes look really sad as she continues. “Izuku was always a sweet boy so most people only thought of him just as that; a boy, not a man. This girl was different, I give her that. I fucking hated her. We all did. Except Izuku.” You really don’t like where this story is going. You can feel the betrayal in the air, it makes your stomach upset and your heart bleed. “After a few weeks Izuku couldn’t even wear his own clothes. She started to point out every geeky thing on him, the shirts, the shoes, his hair… she wanted him to change into something he wasn’t. She even made a comment about his baby fat. Katsuki almost exploded her that day and Izuku stopped bringing her over after that. Things got worse after as Katsuki wasn’t there to reprimand her. I don’t want to say more, Y/N. Ask him. It’s not my story to tell.”
You are rendered speechless. There are so many emotions swirling inside you; fury, hatred, sadness, then there is the urge to protect, the urge to call Izuku home so you can tell him how much you love him and his quirkiness… it’s so much to take in, so much to think about…
“Let’s go before we both start crying.” Kyouka ruffles your hair and motions towards the door, ready for the adventure.
You try your best to keep your focus on the beautiful flats. You look around for flaws, ask the right questions but you are not really there; your mind can only think of Izuku, about how alone he must’ve felt while dating that terrible human being, how humiliated he had to feel around his friends in those clothes he was forced to wear… fuck.
“I’ll walk you home then I’ll come back to do the paperwork.”
She doesn’t need to say any more for you to know that all your thoughts are written on your face.
“Sorry…”
“Don’t be sorry! You helped a lot. Really.” Kyouka smiles. You are so lucky to have her.
~•🥦•~
Izuku is not with it at work. He makes a lot of mistakes and he gets punched by some “random extra” who shouldn’t even be able to touch him.
There was a group of teens making a ruckus downtown. Izuku and Katsuki were out on patrol when they saw them yelling at a poor old man, asking for money but somehow Izuku managed to get hit by one of the kids while he was too distracted with his own thoughts.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Deku!” Katsuki yells at him with a red face. “You just let that fucking extra have the time of his fucking life! Hitting the number one fucking hero in the face! He probably thinks he’s the coolest fucking dude right now and has zero motherfucking remorse about what he’s done!”
“Because you were any better, you burned that kids face! Do you want to get canceled?!”
Izuku is frustrated. He can’t do this anymore. He can’t just let Katsuki step over him like that, not anymore…
“Someone had to do something about it! I had to clean your fucking mess up because that’s what friends do, you absolute fucking moron!”
“Since when do you consider me as a friend? I thought I’m just a nuisance.”
“Stop with the attitude. I know what you are doing and it’s not going to work. You won’t push me away. Don’t make the same mistakes I’ve made when I was a kid. You know it more than anyone how much it fucking hurts.”
“I’m sorry, Kacchan.” He can’t take it anymore. The tears fall, his body shakes and moves towards Katsuki on his own and Katsuki catches him just in time.
“If you want to talk, I’m here. Eijirou is here too. You are not alone anymore.” Katsuki mutters into his hair, his fingers deep in Izuku’s curls. Katsuki has changed so much in the last few years; if anyone would’ve told him he’s gonna be cuddled by Katsuki while he cries for the stupidest fucking reason he would’ve laughed in their face.
He knows he’s being an idiot. Y/N loves him, he can see it in her eyes when he comes back after a long day of work, he can feel it in her touches, in the food she makes, in the way she smiles when Izuku cuddles her from behind… he also knows his Sweet Pea loves him the way he is and he has no reason to doubt himself with her but Izuku can’t do anything with his insecurities; he’s been told so many times how weird he is, how unattractive his home wear is, how his unruly hair makes him look like a child and he doesn’t even want to start talking about his “annoying” clinginess.
Maybe he should’ve told her to finish that commission instead of asking her to go to bed with him. Maybe he should’ve let her cook the food alone or ask her if she needs help instead of clinging to her back like an oversized koala. Maybe he should’ve slept on his own side of the bed instead of suffocating his Sweet Pea with his heavy arms. He went overboard. Even his perfect Sweet Pea needs some space. Maybe that’s why she wants to move out. She loves Izuku but Izuku is too much as a boyfriend… he’s too much, he’s always too much…
“Go home, Zuku.” Katsuki sighs into his hair. “Go home and sort yourself out. I fucking hate seeing you like this. I want to blow your face up.”
Izuku can’t help but snort at that.
“I love you too, Kacchan.”
“Fuck you.”
~•🥦•~
You get home around 2PM; you managed to find some All Might shaped chicken nuggets in the store which you decided to air fry today with some lovely fresh veggies you found in the little market you love. Oh, and rice. Izuku needs more than a snack when he comes home.
Thankfully you manage to finish cooking by 3 so you decide to sit down and finally start working on your commissions; there isn’t much to do, just a few sketches, so you should be done by the time Izuku gets home. Thank god no one commissioned anything detailed, otherwise you would be fucked; there is no way you can do a full, colored drawing in this mental state.
For your surprise the door opens around 4PM; Izuku is already in his civilian clothes, freshly showered, hair still a bit wet.
There is one thing you realize now that Kyouka told you about his past; Izuku’s civilian clothes are quite plain compared to his usual style. It doesn’t sit right with you but that’s a problem for another day.
Today’s problem is…
“You are really early, did you forget something? Want to eat before you go back? I made you something special!” You jump off the chair right away. Izuku looks at you like this is the last time he sees your face; you have no idea what’s going on but you really hate that look on his face, that’s for sure. “Oh my god, please tell me this is not that part of the fanfiction when the hero comes home and tells his wife that he’s going a year long mission to America. I’m not ready for that yet.”
For some reason, Izuku looks guilty. He lowers his eyes, suddenly finding the design of the floor extremely interesting as he fiddles with the sleeve of his jacket anxiously.
“Just a short day, nothing to worry about.” Izuku smiles but it’s fake. So fucking fake it makes you want to gag. “Were you doing a commission? Don’t worry about me, I’m not even supposed to be here, so just ignore me.”
Red flag. A big, fucking red flag. Something happened and Izuku is not telling you jack shit about it.
“Izu, what the fuck, I’ve been waiting to have a few hours with you for a whole week, I can’t just ignore you. With the amount of hours you work I have all the time to finish this fucking scribble, but I only have a few hours with you.” You reprimand, a little bit offended. Just a little bit. Teeny-tiny bit. “You also left without giving me a kiss. You need to give me double kisses today. Also, look at the food I made for you!” You run into the kitchen and come out with the All Might shaped chicken nuggets. You show them off proudly, jumping up and down with the excitement. “Look! It’s All Might! And chicken! I put the magnet that came with it on the fridge, I hope that’s fine! There are 10 different magnets to collect, I’ll try to get them all!”
Suddenly, a loud sob escapes Izuku’s mouth, but it’s not his usual ‘I’m so happy so I’ll cry a river’ kinda sob, it’s the one full of pain and misery. “Izu.” You put the food down on the table to approach the shaking man now sitting on the floor. “I’m sorry do you not want to eat All Might? That’s okay, Izu!” You mutter but Izuku jumps into your words.
“Y/N, stop.” The sound of your own name sounds so foreign from Izuku’s mouth you almost choke on your words. “Stop. It hurts. It hurts so fucking much, I can’t…” Izuku starts to sob again and you are not too far behind him. Without knowing, your tears start to fall, joining Izuku’s in the puddle of misery on the floor.
“What’s wrong, baby? Please, tell me what did I do wrong. I won’t do it ever again, I swear…”
“I know you want to move out. You don’t need to pretend.” Izuku jumps into your words between two loud sobs. “I know I’m impossible to live with, I know my love is toxic, it’s too much too soon, I’m… aware of it and I can change, I can give you space, fuck, I can sleep in the agency if you want me to, I don’t care, but please, don’t leave me. I can change, I can do anything…”
Instead of words you decide to use your hand to tell him how fucking annoyed you are. Because honest to fuck you thought someone died or Izuku is dying or the world is on fire and these are his last words… the sound of the slap is loud in the quiet room but it makes Izuku listen and hopefully he’ll forgive you when this is over.
“I don’t want you to change, you dumb little… waaah!” Great job, Y/N. You are doing fucking well. You slapped the poor sobbing guy then you called him dumb. Great start indeed. “I fucking love you and your nerdy little ass, I love the way you geek out over the stupidest thing, I love how we are glued to each other when you’re home because that’s what I also want to do, thank you for fucking asking, I love those super silly t-shirts you’re hiding at the back of your drawer and I can’t believe you never wear them by the way, I’m not leaving you, I’m not going anywhere, I want to be here, with you, every single second, I can’t believe you really thought you could get rid of me that easily, Midoriya Izuku!” You have no air left by the time you finish your sentence because you forgot to breathe during your rant. “Don’t you fucking dare to change for me. I fell in love with YOU, not with some impostor. Tell me what you want. Do what you want. Act as silly as you want. I’ll probably only love you more, even though it’s quite impossible.”
The silence is deafening. You can see Izuku’s brain going into overdrive. He looks completely lost.
“The notes on the table…” He mutters as he motions towards the notebook. He looks dumbfounded.
“Kyouka is looking for a new flat. I was helping her.”
“I’m an idiot.” Izuku mumbles, mortified. He even forgets to cry.
“Yeah, you are. My idiot boyfriend who I love so dearly.” The words slip out but it’s too late to take it back; you look at Izuku with a terrified look on your face, ready to be reprimanded but Izuku looks at you with nothing but wonder, eyes shining from tears and finally, from happiness.
“Say it again.”
“What?”
“Say it again.” Izuku’s hand reaches towards you. Needless to say, you take it.
“My weird boyfriend, Midoriya Izuku.” You giggle to yourself. If this would be a fanfiction… ahh, Nevermind.
“I love you, Sweet Pea. Please, never change.” Izuku is all over you, not even caring about the floor being the most uncomfortable surface in the whole entire building. You can’t really hold yourself up with such a heavy weight sitting on your shoulders so you both end up stumbling backwards with a loud yelp followed by a bunch of giggling.
“So what does my boyfriend want to do today?” You mutter into Izuku’s neck between two kisses.
“I want to watch an All Might movie in my silly All Might onesie I’m hiding in my dresser while I eat the silly little all might chicken nuggets my perfect girlfriend made for me.”
Your smile is so big it actually hurts your jaw.
“… Only if I can borrow a silly All Might shirt to match with you.”
Apparently, that was the right thing to say; Izuku is about to combust from the happiness as he attacks your mouth with violent happy kisses.
“Have I told you how much I love you?” He mutters into your lips, already knowing your answer.
“Only a few thousand times but it never gets old.”
“Is that a challenge I hear?” He smirks with such confidence it makes you shiver. You did that. You made him feel that way. Oh fuck, this new Midoriya Izuku is really bad for your heart.
“Might as well be.” You grab Izuku’s hair at the back of his head and yank him forward for a heated, deep kiss. Izuku yelps but he doesn’t let you have all the control; this is Izuku’s day, he’s is completely unhinged and so are you.
The food got cold by the time you managed to untangle from each other.
And fuck, it was so worth it.
… Next Chapter!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
Potato ramble:
- Some explanations for the this chapter because I feel like it’s needed:
- 1. Midoriya does wear merch, but mostly black ones with a logo on it instead of the super loud, super colorful ones he would prefer.
- 2. Midoriya’s mum said in one of the chapters that Midoriya has never had a girl over before which is still true; the girl was never officially introduced to Inko as Izuku knew the way the girl was treating him would make his mom really sad. Inko has a slight idea about what happened thanks to Katsuki but she was spared from the gruesome details of it. Izuku doesn’t know his mom knows about it.
- 3. No, they didn’t do anything cheeky on the floor. They were just kissing, you dirty little potato.
- In the next chapter, we are going home to Izuku’s mom! I’m so excited!!!!
- I got a beautiful Deku figurine. I try not to talk about my figurine obsession anymore but I have to show this one off. I genuinely didn’t think I’ll be able to get my hands on this one because it’s an Ichiban Kuji (it’s like a lottery but with anime merch) Last One prize, but here I am, I guess. 😂

A/N: OH MY GOD THANK YOU TO THE ANON THAT REQUESTED THIS!!IM SO SORRY YOUR ASK DISAPPEARED BUT THANK GODD I READ IT BEFORE IT DID!!! I HOPE I DID YOUR IDEA JUSTICE! Please feel free to pop back in and lmk!
Tumblr media
Gunfire rained down all around you as you lay on the ground, bleeding from your wounds. You applied pressure in an attempt to lessen the blood flow but it did little to stop the red liquid from oozing through the bulletholes.
You felt a hand slide under you and reposition you, holding you close to its owners heart and you immediately felt at peace.
You’d die in the arms of the one you loved; and that was enough.
“Chuuya...”you slurred out, your vision already turning patchy, “hey...”
He looked down at you, panic written all across his face;fear etched within his perfect pointed features.
“What the hell did you do asshole?!I TOLD YOU TO STAY IN POSITION!!!”
“Shhhh shhhh....” you say, the fog now thickening in your mind, “too loud...”
Chuuya scowled, yeah no shitt?!”
And with that you went limp,he instinctively felt for a pulse and found it.a feint one,but a pulse nonetheless!
He picked you up effortlessly, and although he stood in the middle of a raging field of bullets cries and blood,no harm came to him,he was completely fine;his gravity manipulation having stopped all the bullets that threatened to hurt both you and him.
He looked to the horizon and saw the yokohama skyline.he then looked back to you and was almost amazed at how peaceful you looked, perhaps if he prayed then maybe you’d just magically wake up.
But chuuya nakahara wasn’t known to be lucky and so as his eyes drifted to the skyline of his beloved city,he knew what he had to do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Armed Detective Agency was having a slow day to say the least, and with nothing but Dazai's schemings to entertain them, they were more bored than ever.
"Hey Atsushiiiii," dazai began,"what if the port mafia broke down our door now?????"
"id thank them for saving us from this boredomm!"replied atsushi as he face planted right into the table.
And right as if on cue-
“ WHERES DOCTOR YOSANO??” Came the voice of the fiery ginger mafioso as he came crashing through the window, unscathed as usual.
The entire agency staff looked shocked for a second, before they all jumped into action.
Atsushi activated his ability, kunikida clutched his notebook and pen, kyouka summoned demon snow, and dazai watched without moving a muscle.
Yosano stepped into the room just then, her skirt swishing elegantly as she held a chainsaw casually in her hands.
“You rang mister executive?”she said,a creepy smile donning her usually beautiful features.
Chuuya scowled at the lot of them, but even then he couldn’t hide his desperation.
His lack of action and a witty remark drew their attention to the body in his hands and the blood on his entire body, not his blood of course, but someone’s nonetheless
Yosano put her weapon down before calmly walking over to chuuya after ordering her colleagues to stand down.
“What happened?” She asked, analysing your wounds and searching for a pulse.
“We were ambushed...she was caught in the crossfire...”chuuya said, his voice faltering towards the end
Yosano found the pulse and nodded, “bring them in,i can help them.”
Chuuya complied with her request without question and followed her into her theater where he placed you on the operating table.
“I’ll call you in when she’s done.” Yosano said as she prepared to activate her ability
Chuuya left the theater and went back into the room which held the rest if the agency members.
He stood there awkwardly, ready to defend you and himself if they tried anything.
But all that happened was atsushi asking a question.
“Who are they?”
It was a simple question with a complicated answer,so chuuya simply said,
“Someone important”
Atsushi nodded at that. And sensing the conversation was over, didnt ask any more questions.
The rest of the agency left one by one to run errands and other things, and by the time yosano came back out it was just him and her.
“You got here just in time,” she said “ a second later and it’d have been too late.”
Chuuya, who was staring at the setting sun, turned to her and said, “thank you.you have no idea what you just did...you will be compensated for your efforts I promise, and before you say anything its not from the port mafia,it’s from me.”
Yosano tilted her head to the side.
This was truly peculiar.
But she knew how important a loved one could be,so she didn’t question him.
Chuuya released a heavy breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding in.
“What’s their name”
“Y/n l/n” chuuya said, “and thanks to you,” he took a step in yosanos direction, “theyre still alive.”
Yosano couldnt exactly describe the look in chuuyas eyes in that moment, but it was a sort of a mix between, relief and the remnants of anxiety and fear.
She looked at her watch and saw how much time had passed.
“They’re ready now.”
Chuuya nodded before following her to the recovery room.
And there you were, all tucked in and completely fine.
“They still need to recover, but you can take them home in two hours” and with that she left the room.
Chuuya looked down at you and your peaceful self and felt right at home
“Never fucking do that again, you piece of shit.”
Was all he said.
You groaned a little before your eyes fluttered open and scanned your surroundings.
“Wher-” you started before he cut you off and answered all the questions racing through your mind.
“We’re in the ada’s recovery room, you were about to die so we brought you to be healed by their gifted doctor.”
He made it sound as if the decision to bring you there wasn’t completely his call, because you could never know how he felt about you.never.
You processed his statement with a hum.
“Thank you.”
He scowled once again and turned the other way.
“Don’t be fucking stupid again,or ill leave you to die.”
You both knew that wasn’t true, but neither of you said anything.
“I promise i wont, boss.” You said softly.the smile on your face looking like one that was sent from above.
He then started walking towards the door.
But before you could question him he said, “doctor yosano said you’ll be able to leave in two hours,I’ll send a car for you.”
You nodded at him And with that he left.
You loved chuuya nakahara with all your heart but you were just his subordinate, and he’d never feel the same way about you as you did about him...
After his departure, you lay back down to rest and just as usual, chuuya invaded your dreams.
And that night as he fell asleep, you invaded his.

I find it interesting how both Atsushi and Akutagawa grew up in environments where the ‘survivial of the fittest’ mentality was pushed onto them.
The orphanage was a cruel place. You couldn’t trust anyone as far as you could throw them. Kids fought for resources, threw each other under the bus to avoid punishment and get a meal that day.
Everyone was against you be it kid or staff and that goes double for you if you were Atsushi.
The slums were a thankless place that no child should have to bare. The strong prevail and the weak must make for them, those are the rules in the pit of despair.
And that’s Akutagawa’s line of thinking before he joins the Port Mafia which would’ve only strengthened that mentality.
And yet, despite it being pushed on them both only Akutagawa internalised that thought process.
To the point where a lot of his earlier dialogue directly mimics the Headmasters.
They both regarded Atsushi the same way, someone so weak they didn’t have a purpose to live. And because of that he ruined the lives of those around him.
But what if Atsushi did internalise that mentality?
He would be a completely different character. He wouldn’t have hesitated to steal while on the streets because if he didn’t he’d die.
He’d probably still have saved Dazai to rob him, been bait for the tiger because money was involved and joined the Agency. But I think he would’ve accepted the tiger sooner, because of it being a powerful gift that helps him survive.
He might’ve left Junichiro and Naomi in that alley with Akutagawa and Higuchi, prioritise saving himself because he’s not strong enough to save the three of them so he’ll only save himself.
He would’ve agreed with Kunikida’s sinking ships speech and not understand that’s the wrong lesson for him to learn. He might’ve saved Kyouka on the train to save himself and the passengers.
But he wouldn’t have gone back for her on the boat. He would’ve understood the Agencies reasoning for leaving him behind. But not why they ended up coming back for him anyway.
Because why would you put yourself as risk to save someone else?
Atsushi grew up with no one to rely on. He had no friends and his parents left him to die. The closest thing he had to a parent abused him on the regular and hated him.
The only person Atsushi could count on was himself. And even then he couldn’t do that completely because of the tiger.
He’s had to be strong all his life. If he was any weaker the orphanage would’ve broken him, his parents would’ve broken him.
He wouldn’t have survived multiple attempts on his life, starvation and torture without it. All Atsushi has is his strength, his ability. Take that away and he’s nothing.
Maybe he sees a cruel reflection of himself in Akutagawa, that their one and the same. Maybe he sees the kindness of the Agency and thinks, if this is weakness why does it give me strength?
He hates being alone but he’s all he’s ever known. All other people do is stab you in the back and hurt you. Trust is for fools, friends are for children but Atsushi was never allowed to be a child.
He sees it all within reach but he’s terrified to take it. Maybe he was wrong and he is just that weak pathetic boy in that bin crying for a mother who’d never return. The kid who fought to save himself because no one else was going too.
How does he live in this world where that’s allowed? Where he’s expected to lean on others and trust they’ll be kind. Atsushi doesn’t know how to live, only to survive.
Idk I just find it an interesting concept to explore. I mean an Akutagawa who doesn’t internalise this mentality is basically Beast Akutagawa.
But we don’t know what Atsushi would be like if he’d thought the same way.

Hey tuna! :3 just a question or kinda of like a idea what if the entire kny cast meets ur kny!bsd cast? OR what if the bsd cast meets ur kny!bsd cast? (Also love the au btw ^^ )
hello <3!
THE ENTIRE CAST? DO YOU WISH DEATH UPON ME </3 that would be such a funny concept actually. i've thought of it before like uhm,....
thoughts below the cut because they ended up pretty long! i didn't cover everyone BUT if you'd like to hear my interpretation of certain characters meeting, just send an ask!
kunikida and rengoku would get along in a strange way. they're both reliant on books in their everyday lives and i'm sure they'd talk about it. kunikida would feel less crazy and also find kyojuro crazy for being able to become an accomplished swordsman by learning the rest of the fire breathing forms in only 3 volumes. kyojuro would find kunikida admirable for his rigid discipline in upholding his ideals through his notebook and his personal moral code. i think kyojuro would foot the bill if they eat together, and kunikida would be endlessly grateful.
kenji and tanjiro would be a UV hazard. in the bsd world, kenji would have to guide tanjiro around like a puppy, and tanjiro would be way too overwhelmed to be out in the Modern City for longer than 30 minutes. i think they'd make for excellent training buddies! tanjiro would definitely admire kenji's brute strength and find it fascinating that he has an active farm on the rooftop of their work building.
poe and zenitsu meeting would be hilarious i think.. zenitsu would actively cringe at this grown ass man for being down stupid for another man, and constantly writing for and sticking close to ranpo, but i think zenitsu would understand, given his clinginess to the kamado siblings. they'd also have an affinity for creating morbid works, because acc to kimetsu gakuen, zenitsu has a particularly scary art style, while poe actively writes murder mystery! post infinity-castle zenitsu would definitely ask poe to read the Legend of Zenitsu and be cooked alive by poe's disapproval.
atsushi and inosuke will not get along, period. even if they're bonding over food. i do not see it. atsushi would be reminded of akutagawa's petty nature everytime inosuke tries to start shit, and oh god i don't even want to imagine them brawling it up. i think the only time inosuke would possibly calm down is if atsushi cooked food for him, making him feel all fuzzy and reminding him of tanjiro's tenderness. though in terms of a physical brawl? inosuke would respect the hell out of atsushi if atsushi fights in his weretiger form, he probably thinks it's badass.
kyouka and kanao are telepathically bonding by the way. kyouka would introduce kanao to modern day sweets and i think they'd bond over cute trinkets and sweets. i bet you, they'd also talk about their sister figures (aoi and lucy), as well as the boys who saved them (tanjiro and atsushi). they'd trade hair accessories i'm sure.
ranpo would LOVE NEZUKO. the same way he treated kyouka when she first arrived at the agency, ranpo would spoil nezuko with sweets and they'd bond over their excessive sweet tooths. nezuko think ranpo's a friendly guy, and probably admires him like she admired mitsuri!

Quirk Assessment Test
So, school starts. In the process of moving their stuff to their accommodations, only a few people ever saw each other, such as Kirishima and Ashido, Kendou and Monoma, and so on. Izuku doesn't see anyone other than Bakugou, who he ignores.
When school starts, Izuku is immediately crowded with Denki, who he helped in the exam, Ochako, who he saved, Mina, Eijirou, and Tenya, who apologises for thinking Izuku was crazy for turning back to help Ochako, not that he told Izuku this until now, but it's all a-okay!
Aizawa comes in, telling them to be quiet and to get dressed and meet him back at the class, where he'll then take them to field outside. He tells them he'll inform them about things they need to know after the test.
So, they meet up outside, and this is where we get another big change to the arc!
It's split up into to sections. A purely physical exam, and a quirk-introductory part. Instead of threatening expulsion, he declares that the bottom five will be assigned an essay on the importance of strength outside of quirks or something...
So, the first part if the exam same tests as canon, without quirks. Anyone using quirks will have their points docked.
Izuku does pretty well all around, and Mezou is obviously the best.
Placements:
Shouji Mezou
Hagakure Tooru
Kirishima Eijirou
Todoroki Shouto
Yaoyorozu Momo
Midoriya Izuku
Ashido Mina
Iida Tenya
Ojirou Mashirao
Tokoyami Fumikage
Asui Tsuyu
Satou RIkidou
Uraraka Ochako
Sero Hanta
Bakugou Katsuki
Kaminari Denki
Kouda Kouji
Aoyama Yuuga
Jirou Kyouka
Mineta Minoru
Quirk Introductory:
Everyone goes around and explains their quirks. Mina and Eijirou have a more scientific understanding of their quirks with Izuku's influence, (might post that soon), and Momo of course. Izuku reveals that he's quirkless, and Mina and Eijirou are just shocked because they thought he had an intelligence quirk.
Ochako then says, 'I'm just shocked that first place doesn't have a quirk.' To which Bakugou is not happy about and responds by trying to attack Izuku.
As in canon, Aizawa stops this, but instead of just complaining about dry-eye, he warns Bakugou that he's already on thin ice and to not step out of line.
Izuku is kinda confused but happy, because this is the first time an adult told Bakugou off.
The day does not end there, though.
Day One:
After the QAT, Aizawa explains the stuff they missed from the entrance ceremony, then the next period starts.
Not much to say, though it will be mentioned that Midnight isn't provactive and is oddly modest when teaching, and Mic is very enthusiastic about teaching, which raises engagement and stuff.
Denki, Mina, Ejirou, Tenya, and Ochako sit with Izuku at lunch and plan to hit the centre after school, then invite the rest of the class. Izuku makes some pre-quirk references that nobody recognises, because I think it's funny.
I forgot to mention this in my 'About U.A.' post, but hero course students are treated as having a scholarship. They also offer free school lunches (that are actually good) to those whose parents earn under a certain amount, which Ochako qualifies for. She didn't know this until Mina brings it up due to her lunch consisting of a single banana. This also includes pre-paid trips, so she does not have to pay for them
After school, everyone but Bakugou and Shouto hang out in the centre, helping the bottom five write their essays. Everyone exchanges numbers.
Conclusion:
QAT actually makes sense and Aizawa is a moderately better teacher
Bakugou scores low on the QAT and is devasted, and he gets a verbal warning
Everyone is friends, apart from Shouto and Bakugou, the latter of whom nobody enjoys
Ochako gets free school lunches and gets to go on trips for free
More 1-A friendship building!

What do you think of soukoku? Do you think Dazai has any role in helping Chuuya become a leader?
Hi!
I am not sure about Dazai helping Chuya to grow into a leader, even if I think Chuya will become a leader.
So far, I think Chuya's story in the manga is set-up to have two layers:
Becoming the leader of the mafia
Solving his relationship with Dazai
The first one is prepared in the Cannibalism arc. The second one instead permeates Chuya's screentime in the manga. After all, every arc ends with a sskk fight, but also every arc (minus Cannibalism) has skk parallel Atsu and Aku structurally:
The first arc ends with sskk's first real fight over Kyouka. Just some chapters before, there is Chuya's introduction and his first confrontation with Dazai
The second arc ends with sskk vs Fitzgerald, but the climax is kickstarted by skk vs Lovecraft
The current arc has clearly paralleled sskk's real struggle while Aku is vampirized with skk's fake one over Chuya's brainwashing
In short, sskk and skk are almost always paralleled structurally, which means that even if the new generation is gonna save the world, the old one has still a role to play. Most likely, this role ties with Dazai's arc, which is probably gonna take flight in the climax of the series.
In general, Dazai's plan to make Aku and Atsu partners has a double objective:
a pragmatic one- the combination of their abilities is gonna save the world
an existential one - Dazai is trying to save himself through the two kids
Dazai projects all his past bonds on Atsushi:
Atsushi embodies Odasaku's goal to save orphans
Atsushi is Dazai's second chance to be a good mentor after Akutagawa
Atsushi is an attempt Dazai does to indirectly help Akutagawa after leaving him
The sskk's partnership reveals how Dazai is still emulating Mori to an extent. Mori sets up skk's alliance and Dazai does the same with Atsu and Aku
Finally, Dazai pushing Atsushi and Akutagawa together, so that they can save each other is an indirect aknowledgement of the importance the bond with Chuya has for him.
Sskk represents Dazai's redemption, to an extent. He couldn't help Oda, but can help Atsushi. He left Aku behind, but can still save him through Atsushi. He can't properly communicate with Chuya, but he can recreate his bond with him through Aku and Atsu.
Still, what is Dazai and Chuya's bond? Let's explore soukoku! (Here I finally come to your ask after much blabbering).
Tumblr media
DOUBLE BLACK = DOUBLE LONELINESS
Soukoku is a play on words:
It is pronounced "conflict"
It means "double black"
Soukoku sounds like conflict because that is Dazai and Chuya's superficial relationship. They are always annoying each other and fighting. Their whole dynamic is a rivalry.
Soukoku means double black because it describes the meeting between two darknesses. Dazai and Chuya are both engulfed by black, so together they make the black double. They are double darkness.
What does the darkness in Dazai and Chuya's life stands for? The answer is found in Fifteen:
" " existed in a sterile bluish-black darkness. There was no up or down, backward or forward. Even the flow of time was ambiguous. " " had no idea who it was or why it was there. (...) Beyond the heavy darkness was a clear wall. " " knew instinctively that the wall was keeping it inside - that it was a seal. (...) But one day, that seal was destroyed. The sacred realm had been opened, the darkness had been tainted, and the outside world had intruded. Someone was calling " ". (...) A man's powerful hand grabbed on to " ", and reddish-black flames erupted from where it touched. Those were the cries of a newborn. (Fifteen, phase xx)
Chuya recalls his time in the lab as fluttering in a bluish darkness (the black fluid) sealed by a glass wall (the tube). This state is one where he feels nothing and isn't anyone. It is perfect solitude. And yet, Verlaine and Rimbaud come and bring Chuya into the world. They taint the darkness, which is nothing, but Chuya's loneliness:
LONELY DARKNESS MY SORROW, once it is opened by the key I'd rather just fall than go back to being alone Staring at the destroyed cage of this self, (GRAVITY) Slowly, I sing, "Not bad at all."
Chuya is scared to find himself alone again. And yet, he deep down wishes to go back to a perfect and untainted darkness:
I want nothing anymore but simplicity, quiet, murmurs and order. O acquaintances, grantors of dark disgrace, do not wake me again! I will endure my solitude, arms seeming already useless.
In the verses used to activate corruption, the poet gives up on life and community. He chooses nothingness and loneliness instead. So, every time Chuya awakens Arahabaki he is metaphorically giving in to these feelings. He is letting the Tainted Sorrow take control.
This is the contradiction Chuya is built on. He consciously doesn't want to be alone, but unconsciously he is tempted by the bluish darkness of his childhood. Dazai is instead Chuya's opposite. He behaves as if he is unapproachable, but deep down he craves human connections. Chuya and Dazai are made of similar parts, but show and hide different things. This is why they seem opposite, but are actually the same.
They are two lonely people, who crave companionship, but know that bonds come with pain. They are victims of the hedgehog's dilemma:
The hedgehog's dilemma, or sometimes the porcupine dilemma, is a metaphor about the challenges of human intimacy. It imagines a group of hedgehogs who want to huddle together for warmth in the winter, but they cannot avoid sticking each other with their sharp spines. Though they all want a close mutual relationship, their own prickly nature might make this impossible.
Can Dazai and Chuya grow close to people or does their nature make them impossible to understand? Is it worth it to search for intimacy, when it comes with pain? These feelings and doubts are the true nature of Dazai and Chuya's darkness. They are soukoku because they are double loneliness.
Fifteen is the story of these two lonely people meeting:
Tumblr media
They picked what they deemed the fairest method of deciding things: the loser would have to obey the winner no matter what. They ended up playing close to a hundred matches, but that's a story for another time. (Fifteen)
Dazai and Chuya are two abnormal teenagers. Dazai is too smart, while Chuya is too strong. This is why they find themselves with no real peers. However, when they meet each other they find someone they can act their age with.
Dazai is usually gloomy and makes people around him uncomfortable. However, when he is with Chuya he gets angry and annoyed like other kids.
Chuya needs to always act as a leader and to put the Sheep's needs before his own. This is why he acts dead serious when he meets Shirase and the girl at the arcade. However, when he is with Dazai he goes back to be himself. He shows his feelings and acts silly, like a teenager should.
Dazai and Chuya don't like each other, but they are attracted to each other because the other brings out a hidden part of who they are. A part tied to humanity and life.
NO LONGER HUMAN
Dazai's skill is called No Longer Human because he feels inhuman:
"He's already dead," said Chuuya. "Quit shooting his corpse." Dazai was puzzled. His expression was bizarrely childlike- fit for a boy his age, yet unlike any he had shown before. His lips suddenly curled into a gloomy smile. "You're right. When you're right, you're right. That's the most common reaction to have." (...) His expression was back to how it usually was: lifeless and utterly disinterested. "Ha-ha. Normal. Ha-ha-ha." (Fifteen)
Dazai sees himself as wrong and thinks Chuya is far more normal than he is. Sure, he has an incredibly powerful skill, but deep down he is just another kid. This is why the reveal of Chuya's background leaves such an impact on Dazai:
Tumblr media
Chuya: Arahabaki is me.
It forces him to look outside himself and to reconsider what it means to be human. The point of Dazai's character is that he thinks he is this impossible to read being, who stands above others. And yet, he is really a normal person. Not only that, but he is also pretty childish. He wants friends and grows attached to the few people who step into his loneliness (Mori, Chuya, Oda, Ango, Akutagawa, the ADA). And yet, he sucks at communicating with them out of fear, which leads to more problems than needed. In synthesis, the story of Dazai in Fifteen is really that of an emo kid, who discovers the jock has more reason than him to be emo.
This is why Chuya grows linked to the idea of humanity in Dazai's mind:
"You sound like you're certain he's human." "I am." Dazai sighed, smiling. "There's no way I could hate a man-made character string this much." (Storm Bringer)
In Storm Bringer, Dazai risks the destruction of Yokohama to prove that Chuya is human. He does so because if a guinea pig like Chuya is a normal human, then surely Dazai can be human, as well. Dazai cares about Chuya's humanity because it is linked to Dazai's own humanity. It gives him hope.
THE SUICIDAL BASTARD WANTS TO LIVE
Chuya's skill is called Upon the Tainted Sorrow because deep down Chuya wants to die:
The Tainted Sorrow has Nothing to desire and nothing to wish. The Tainted Sorrow has A dream of death to its wary self.
This is why he is so disturbed by Dazai's suicidal tendencies. He sees a dark mirror of himself in the other boy. This is why Dazai's sudden wish to live impresses Chuya so much:
"Working for the mafia has piqued my interest, albeit slightly," Dazai began. "In the outside world - the world of light - death is kept separate from everyday life. It's swept under the rug. People find it unpleasant. But the Mafia's world isn't like that. Death is an extension of everyday life. And I tend to think that's more accurate. Death isn't the opposite of life, but merely a function of it. We breath, eat, fall in love and die. And you can't get the full picture of living without observing death up close." Chuya quietly stared at Dazai's expression as if he were searching for something human deep inside of him. "So you're saying... you want to live now?" (Fifteen)
And after Dazai opens up about his feelings, Chuya does the same:
"Hey. You wanna know why I always fight without using my hands?" Chuuya asked as he approached Randou. (...) "I've never lost a fight in my life. I've never even been in real danger... But that's no surprise. After all, I'm not even human. My identity is a safeguard, like you said. Hey do you know how that feels? (...) That's why I kept my hands in my pockets. I figured I'd one day feel like I was about to lose, no longer enjoying the fight, but just doing everything I could to protect myself... I thought maybe that way I'd start to like myself as a person - me, a little pattern without a body of my own." (Fifteen)
Dazai and Chuya say the same thing. They both like risking their lives because in this way they feel they are truly living. It is only when they are fighting to survive that they can truly believe in their humanity.
The twist of Fifteen is that Chuya seems more normal than Dazai, but he is really as self-hating and as suicidal as the other teen. And yet, it is because of this similarity that Chuya ends up associating Dazai to life:
Tumblr media
Dazai: You used Corruption, believing in me? How beautiful. Chuya: Yeah, I did. I believed in your disgusting vitality and craftiness.
In Dead Apple, Chuya jumps in front of a Dragon and activates Corruption because he refuses to believe Dazai might really be dead. He needs to hold on to the idea Dazai is alive because Dazai's willingness to live gives him the strength to keep on living, as well. After all, if a suicidal bastard wants to live, then surely Chuya can share this wish, as well.
ON HUMANITY AND LIFE - RIMBAUD'S FINAL MESSAGE
Dazai and Chuya are two suicidal and self-hating kids, who meet each other and realize they are not alone in their feelings. This doesn't make their sense of loneliness disappear, but they can at least be lonely together. They recognize each other as human beings, who want to live:
"Your plan better not fail and get us both killed, or I'm gonna kill you, Dazai." Dazai smiled back at him. "I'm fine with that. Now, let's do this, Chuuya." (Fifteen)
Chuya reveals he is Arahabaki and Dazai admits he wants to live. The result of this shared moment of vulnerability is that the two kids enter an alliance and defeat Rimbaud, who is trying to take away their humanity and life. And yet, it is Rimbaud's last words which convey the lesson Dazai and Chuya need to learn:
"Live," Randou said in almost a whisper. "There is no longer... any way of knowing... who you are or where you came from," he rasped. "But even if... you are but a pattern... etched on the surface of raw power... you are you. Nothing changes that... because all people, all humanity... their brains and flesh... are nothing more than patterns - beautiful patterns... upon the material world..." (Fifteen)
Everybody feels cold. Everybody looks for answers they aren't gonna find. The dark feelings Dazai and Chuya have are proof they are humans. And the only thing humans can do is to keep on living, despite it all.
TOGETHER ALONE
Bsd is full of people who are together alone. Let's consider two of these bonds, which foil soukoku:
Rimbaud and Verlaine
Fyodor and Gogol
Rimbaud and Verlaine
Rimbaud and Verlaine are Chuya's literary parents and their relationship clearly foils soukoku. In particular, they fall apart because of communication problems:
Rimbaud doesn't understand Verlaine's pain
Verlaine fails to open up to Rimbaud
The end result is that Verlaine betrays Rimbaud and their confrontation escalates into a fight, which ends with the worst outcome possible for both. Not only that, but they end up projecting their issues on Chuya (their metaphorical child). Rimbaud believes that if he makes Chuya his skill, he will find Verlaine again. Verlaine thinks that if he forces Chuya to come with him, he will stop feeling the loss of Rimbaud. In the end, though, they manage to find each other again through empathizing with Chuya.
Rimbaud understands Chuya's fears of not being human. In this way, he can finally understand Verlaine's feelings. By seeing Chuya is human, he also sees Verlaine as human. Because of this final realization, Rimbaud gives up on his humanity and turns himself into a singularity with no regrets. He becomes Verlaine's core and a proof of his friend's personhood.
Verlaine realizes through Chuya that he himself is human. In this way, he can finally aknowledge his grief over Rimbaud's death and apologize to his friend. Verlaine is a lonely monster, who finds redemption and humanity in a single meaningful bond. Rimbaud symbolically takes the place of his heart.
Tumblr media
Dazai and Chuya have similar communication problems. Dazai is unable to be honest about how he feels about Chuya and the people he left behind in the mafia, as a whole. This is why soukoku's interactions are full of gags where Dazai jokes about dramatic confessions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He probably has something to tell Chuya, but can't. If anything, he leaves the mafia without giving any explanations. And in Beast, he marches towards his death without telling anything to Chuya.
Chuya instead fails to truly understand Dazai's reasons. The mafia is Chuya's family and he is content with it, but it is an organization which sucks away Dazai's willingness to live. Chuya probably fails to see it.
The end result is that Dazai betrays the mafia and leaves both the organization and Chuya behind. It is probable that this past grudge is gonna come up eventually. If anything because past grudges keep being mentioned when it comes to soukoku and Chuya:
Tumblr media
Not only that, but just like Rimbaud and Verlaine, it is possible soukoku has their own metaphorical child to save:
Tumblr media
Q appears in Fifteen and is the person soukoku join forces to save in their first fight together in the manga. They clearly represent both Dazai and Chuya's inner child:
They are a problematic child taken in by Mori, like Dazai. They are taken advantage of and trapped because of their monstruous abilities. Dazai himself is assigned as Q's guardian.
They have a skill they deep down hate, like Chuya. They even admit they don't want their gift while tortured, just like Chuya does while a prisoner in Storm Bringer.
So, Q is the child Dazai and Chuya used to be. And yet, they both show very little sympathy for them. That is because they have yet to reconcile with the most frail parts of who they are. They can do so only through both Q and each other. Once they do, Dazai will be able to be honest and Chuya will be able to understand.
Fyodor and Gogol
Fyodor and Gogol share Dazai and Chuya's religious motif:
Dazai is often compared to a demon and Chuya to a God
Fyodor calls himself a God and Gogol refers to himself as a rebel angel (aka the Devil)
This imagery highlights how all four characters feel separated from the rest of humanity. At the same time, Fyodor and Gogol are set up as Dazai and Chuya's dark foils. It means they are pejorative mirrors of the characters. They have some traits Dazai and Chuya also possess, but taken up to eleven. In particular, the two couples' juxtaposition is centered around control, freedom and how these two ideas impact relationships.
Fyodor and Dazai are both manipulators. They are able to read others' behaviors perfectly and can control others' actions. This is why they can build exploitative relationships, where others are just puppets. Fyodor fully embraces this part of himself. This is why he refuses to forge real bonds and pushes Gogol away. He can't accept a friend with his own free will. Dazai instead has learnt from his many bonds that he can't fully control other people. No matter how much he tries to turn Chuya into a slave, he never gives up his freedom. He tries his best to stop Oda from dying, but his friend goes on with his suicidal plan. Ango betrays Dazai, despite their friendship. Kunikida is able to surprise Dazai in their first mission together. And so on:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gogol and Chuya both feel trapped by the world and are constantly fighting against a sense of nihilism:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though it feels like I might be trapped, there is no room for sentiments I'll push myself to the limit and dye everything jet-black The world is a bird cage, faded in colour Even if I lament, I can't get out of this prison BUT NOW, DARKNESS MY SORROW I have not yet fallen apart So, as I laugh off this imposed inconvenience Let's overturn even the heavens and the earth (GRAVITY) Within the darkness, a shadow of a hat lightly dances.
Gogol's freedom is nothingness. It is the same nothingness Chuya experiences in the lab, before his rebirth into the world. It is poignant that Gogol uses similar imagery to the one Chuya sings about in his song. Both talk about a cage and the ability to fly away free from gravity. However, this wish can't be realized because being humans means not to be fully free. Neither from morality nor from feelings. Gogol wishes to escape from himself. This is why he wants to murder Fyodor. Because Fyodor is his only bond, a tie. Chuya instead keeps binding himself to others. He starts with the Sheep, goes on with the Flags and with the Mafia. Gogol keeps on fighting to free himself from everything. Chuya instead accepts he is always going to be a prisoner.
In other words, Fyodor wants to control everyone, while Gogol refuses to give up even a small fragment of his freedom. This is why they push each other away and (apparently) lose to soukoku in the current arc. In order to have a bond, you need to trust the other person and to sacrifice some freedom to them. Fyodor and Gogol refuse, so they fail to forge a true relationship.
Dazai and Chuya have similar flaws, but they are lucky enough to have many people to teach them about friendships and bonds. This is why they can have relationships with others.
That said, it is possible the next confrontation soukoku has with Fyodor and Gogol (yes, Fyodor is gonna be okay and yes, they are set up to fight in the future) won't go as smoothly. After all, the role of a dark foil is to challenge the character so they can see their shortcomings. This is gonna happen to Dazai and Chuya, as well.
A TAINTED DARKNESS
Tumblr media
Dazai and Chuya are two people with opposite personalities and the same existential emptiness. This is why they gravitate toward each other, but also repulse each other. Theirs isn't a bond that can fix pain. Rather, it is a bond, which is real, despite all its contradictions. In a sense, it is the opposite of Dazai's romanticized double suicide:
Dazai curled into the fetal position and screamed, "Dying with Chuuya? Anything but thaaaat!!" (Storm Bringer)
Dazai and Chuya don't heal each other. However, they keep on living along each other, despite the pain and the messiness. They don't make the darkness disappear, but they manage to taint each other's blackness.
This metaphor is brought home by their use of "corruption".
Upon the Tainted Sorrow is a metaphor of Chuya's inner depression and nihilism. Whenever he activates Corruption, he lets this side of him take over. He goes back to his dark loneliness.
No Longer Human is a skill that nullifies others' skills and it is a metaphor of how Dazai feels estranged from others. Not a human being.
And yet, Dazai is able to use his inhuman gift to bring to the surface Chuya's humanity. At the same time, Chuya's loneliness is tainted by Dazai's touch. Once again, another hand comes into his dark world and brings him back to life.
In conclusion, double black is really two tainted lonelinesses.

🐾 You are the voice, that characters hear from time to time. At first, your voice isn't sound clear and characters can't recognize some words. But, at one moment, character will hear you loud and clear.
🐾 Characters can feel your emotions. "Real" emotions. It means, if you are that happy, that you want to jump, like a little kid, they would feel, that you ere that happy.
🐾 Some characters can "see" your presence. A Blob of Light that is flying above them. But to see them, characters either have to spend a long time under Reader's influence (Dazai, Chuuya), or have sharp senses or ability, that let them be highly aware of their surroundings (Fukuzawa, Oda, Gide).
🐾 Only character, who are you talking about, can hear you, even if the second character is near the first. (Example, only Atsushi heard, that you were praising him for saving Kyouka, while Kyouka was standing near him).
Consequences: Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia are creating an alliance to find a way to your world.

Sigma and Lucy and their connection to Atsushi (+the pattern with people Atsushi wants to help and how Sigma falls into it)
(Or how they all fall into it, and quite literally fall since for some reason there's a repeated pattern of important moments between Kyouka, Lucy and Sigma when it comes to Atsushi and one or both of them falling or jumping from a high ledge)
I've never been able to stop thinking about this so I'm finally making a post on this.
I'm gonna mainly compare chapter 28 and chapter 76, and the events surrounding these chapters that take place on the same day as them and in relation to them.
The chapters show us more on a member of the enemy terrorist organisation that the ADA are currently up against. In the chapter (or around this chapter for Sigma), we see the backstory of a member and bit of their ideology.
This character started out life with no family and no home, being used and abused in their early years.
It's noted that their backstory is similar to Atsushi's, and that they are actually very similar to him.
Tumblr media
The character loses their home in this chapter (or implied in this chapter for Lucy), and the only family they had that they desperately clung onto and fought for. Even if it wasn't a proper family, it was all they had. They'd been alone their whole lives and didn't want to be alone again.
The home and family in question are on a floating structure in the sky. This is also where the chapter takes place.
Tumblr media
Atsushi says something to this character that affects them. The character ends up helping him just before the two part ways.
Tumblr media
This is the last look they give Atsushi before they leave eachother
Tumblr media
The character and Atsushi leave eachother by one of them falling. For Chapter 28 it's Atsushi who jumps off leaving Lucy, and they leave with a hopeful interaction of them meeting again. For Chapter 76, it's Sigma who falls leaving Atsushi, with a less hopeful interaction of Atsushi believing Sigma is dead and Sigma letting go believing he would die.
Tumblr media
Notably in this chapter, right after Sigma falls Lucy shows up. The last ex-terrorist now friend/ally to Atsushi. And in opposition to both Chapter 28 (where Atsushi jumped away from her) and the scene that just happened (with Atsushi failing to save an enemy) she jumps off a high ledge TOWARDS Atsushi to save him. Lucy was where Sigma currently is, and both her and her bond with Atsushi have grown a lot since then, and this could also be the future for Sigma.
Tumblr media
There is a promise for Atsushi to save this character. Unfortunately, he doesn't end up saving them. They also get taken again by their organisation, no longer by any will of their own.
Tumblr media
Chapter 76 including these three with notable moments definitely feels to me like a comparison of Lucy and Sigma and their relationship with Atsushi. Sigma's situation is very similar to Lucy's as I've previously shown. Terrorists that have recently suffered loss in regards to their found home and family, that get a connection with Atsushi in this chapter. Unlike with Lucy, Sigma and Atsushi left eachother without hope of seeing the other again or Atsushi being able to help them (for the characters, the story itself does give hope of this happening). Then Lucy shows up, as a reminder of the last enemy he helped that DID turn out OK, and to show how far Lucy has come since then, since she was where Sigma is. It shows that hope might not be lost for Sigma either.
With it already being established that Sigma now wants to become an ADA member, the possibility of seeing Sigma grow like Lucy did and develop a bond with Atsushi like she did gets closer to being canon. There's something there and I'm really looking forward to seeing how Sigma's character could possibly develop after this arc (and when he wakes up because my guy is likely in a coma rn 😔)
The Pattern
I've stated that Lucy being in chapter 76 is important to show the connection Sigma could eventually have with Atsushi, but even though she's not in that chapter it's also important to note Kyouka. In the sky Casino mission to retrieve Sigma, where Sigma and Atsushi meet for the first time, it was specifically Lucy and Kyouka who went with Atsushi.
For both Lucy and Kyouka, there were three notable incidents with Atsushi until they become allied with the ADA permanently.
Kyouka:
- Atsushi saving her from the train
- Atsushi saving her from Akutagawa
- Kyouka escaping the Guild and becoming an official ADA member
Lucy:
- Atsushi beating Lucy
- Atsushi and Lucy's talk on the Whale
- Atsushi and Lucy's meeting in the cafe
The pattern here was there being a first meeting where Atsushi is shown wanting to help the character even though they're an enemy that he just thought against and a terrorist.
The next incident takes place a while after the first and is a pivotal point where its made certain in the story that things will turn out OK for the enemy character. A bond is set between them and Atsushi. -------------------------- After the second incident, things in fact do not turn out OK for the character and the audience was actually led into a false security. Kouyou shows up after to try and take back Kyouka, and the Guild kidnaps Lucy from her room before Atsushi can 'come back and save her'. Now the character is in danger again and their fate is once again up in the air, only now there's more at stake since a bond with Atsushi has already been established and the audience has been given the chance to grow attached to them. Whether or not this character will be able to join 'the side of the light' and have a home and family like they wanted is uncertain again
It's the third incident that sets into stone again that the character does in fact turn out OK. They reunite with Atsushi, and they finally get to live a good life with a home and the freedom to live how they wished to. The character is now connected with the ADA and after this point in the story, no matter what happens to the character their place in the light is never thrown into question again, they belong here.
So I believe this could happen with Sigma. He doesn't follow the exact same process, considering that Sigma is also being helped by Dazai, and could be grouped with Atsushi as someone Dazai saved, but chapter 76 still follows the pattern well enough that I believe this could happen.
We've already had our first incident with their meeting. Despite me comparing this chapter to Lucy and Atsushi's second meeting, for Sigma and Atsushi this still fits into the territory of the first part of the pattern.
(Intetesting note: Unlike with Lucy and Kyouka, after it was established that Atsushi wanted to help the enemy, this was the first time where Atsushi 'failed' to. He jumped from the train with Kyouka, he jumped off the Whale after promising to come back for Lucy, but at the sky Casino it was Sigma who fell instead, and Atsushi stayed thinking that he just saw the last of a now dead man that he failed to help. Then again, it could just be following the pattern and we'll see a more hopeful outcome with their second meeting)
The second incident will likely be them meeting again. It will end more hopefully, with a further bond between Atsushi and Sigma and more hope for Sigma joining the ADA.
If we then follow the pattern, something bad will happen to Sigma to throw this off course, and put into question whether he'll actually be able to join the ADA and get a home.
This will last for some time, until the third part eventually comes where Sigma finally gets to stay with his new home and new life. After this, it should be permanent to the story and Sigma shouldn't have his status as an ADA member/ally put into question or at risk again.

If dazai ends up transferring to the PM, how would you feel? 😭
Idk the ADA panels are making me anxious..
Hey hey!
Honestly, I think Mori trying to bring Dazai back in this way wouldn't be a good play on his part at all, and I think he knows this. Dazai has to choose to return himself, otherwise Mori won't end up with an asset at all, just a hindrance. I really can't see that kind of transfer going any way other than Dazai just... up and leaving again first chance he gets. Hahaha
Besides, it'd be a weird move on Fukuzawa's part, and I do believe both Ranpo and Kunikida (as well as Atsushi and Kyouka) would strongly protest - Fukuzawa is shown taking Dazai's advice when meeting with Mori during the Guild arc quite seriously, and even if you think that he somehow doesn't consider him part of the group (I seriously doubt it), Dazai is still an incredible boon to the Agency, especially in dealings with the Mafia or against powerful opponents like Fyodor. It would be a really poor decision to try and transfer him.
While I poked fun at the panels with a couple of memes, I really think Dazai not being there has a lot to do with Fukuzawa's ability - remember that he knows the status of each member of his Agency; of course, with the exception of Dazai.
Also, I seriously don't know if the transfer is going to go through at all at this point. While the Mafia did rescue the Agency members from the Hunting Dogs, it was a traitor in their midst that assured their later capture, and the vampire infection completely ravaged the Mafia's ranks. As far as everyone knows now, it was Fukuzawa and the Agency that "saved the day". Do they still owe Mori? It seems unlike either of them to back out of a deal, but I'm honestly not sure.
If it does still go through, let's think hypothetically on who Mori might take based on what he'd be looking for in a potential transfer member.
Yosano: Obviously he wants Yosano back. But he can't get to her because Fukuzawa guaranteed it.
Dazai: Obviously he wants Dazai back. But I think due to the reasons above, Dazai is safe.
Kyouka: She just left. Also I think Kouyou understands that she's happier here and would not let this happen. Atsushi and Dazai would also not let this happen.
Kenji: Very strong, and recognized as such by Chuuya. However, I don't think his attitude is something that Mori would be looking for. He doesn't exactly scream "operating under cover of night" hahaha
Ranpo: I doubt it, but there could be some advantages. Mori would have another genius tactician for one. However, Ranpo's methods are far removed from Dazai's and Mori's own, and I think he'd have a hard time convincing Ranpo to do anything he doesn't want to... Ranpo is a detective. Case closed. Maybe if Mori had found him instead of Fukuzawa when he was young, but now? No.
Kunikida: This could be interesting. Kunikida is a very moral man; however, he is far from bound to the law (fully willing to break it if he disagrees or thinks it's necessary for the sake of his ideals) and has recently had his ideals and spirit damaged almost to the point of suicide. Transferring him would be devastating. I don't know that I see what Mori would get out of taking Kunikida though, other than weakening the Agency (remember that he's next in line to lead after Fukuzawa). I just don't think there's enough in it for Mori to bother. I also think taking Kunikida would piss Dazai off royally.
Tanizaki: The fan-popular choice. He does, admittedly, make the most sense. Multiple Mafia characters have seen and commented on his talent for assassination. His skills are very useful and his morals basically hinge on Naomi's safety. If Asagiri wanted to elaborate on Tanizaki's character, this would certainly be an interesting way to do it. If Mori can assure Naomi's safety, then he will have Tanizaki's loyalty and a powerful new assassin, and that is what Mori would ultimately be looking for.
Atsushi: Okay, hear me out. Mori has to be well aware of Dazai's creation of a new double black in Atsushi and Akutagawa. He knows full well how powerful the tiger is. Might it be useful to have a double black purely under his command once again? Now, I honestly believe that Mori understands the value of balance in these things and wouldn't take Atsushi so as to have their duo be part-Agency, part-Mafia in accordance with Natsume's tactics. We've also already seen mafia Atsushi in the Beast universe. However, this could be a really interesting way to have reader focus shift to exploring more of the Port Mafia by having our main character literally end up mired in that world. Mori has already worked with Atsushi before (against Lucy), and let's think of what he knows - Fitzgerald set a bounty on him, Dazai recruited him and partnered him with his former mentee, and he's able to work well with Akutagawa (who pretty notoriously isn't a team player). Mori may just find himself intrigued enough to see what the big deal is...

hii again!! thank you for answering my asks hehe 😊🤭
Going off from your response (about the bsd ladies ✨), I have some random questions for you 💗
Who is your favourite bsd *female* character?
Who is one female character you'd want to rewrite?
And who is the female character you see the most wasted potential in?
No pressure btw!
Omg hi thank you so much for this ask I love sharing opinions almost as much as I love talking about women 💞💞💞
Favourite bsd *female* character?
All of them LMAO. But Kyouka holds a special place in my heart <3 I mean, I think she's quite objectively the best written female character in this series, if anything because she gets an actual character arc beyond the two occasional chapters of spotlight. I really like the inherent duality of her character in being both a skilled assassin and a little girl (and how it can be both tragic and hilarious! The versatility). Her character arc is sincerely compelling, I'm a sucker for any character who's just doing their very best to be a good person even when it feels like going against their nature. Her backstory is so tragic! Her relationship with her ability is so interesting! But I just love how truly… Strong-willed she is, how determined and resolute she can be; she's truly inspiring. If you ask me, she's got that charm of magical girls anime: sometimes you really need to see little girls defeat unimaginable evils with the power of love to heal your heart. And the fact that she doesn't really fit the trope of happy-go-lucky girl is all the more capturing!! Again, I really love the interior conflict - or coexistence - between her dark, ruthless side, and the side that likes bunnies and crepes and girly things; it makes her so authentically and unmistakably Kyouka. I appreciate how she's the only character who can sort of keep up with the protagonist role to ss/kk and s/kk, and she's only 14 eheh. And I LOVE her interactions with the other characters, so much!!!! I adore her relationship with Atsushi (truly. Not even remotely close to how much I talk about them), and I feel like they truly deserve each other in a lot of ways. The way Kyouka's sharp attitude and blunt personality fit and mitigate Atsushi's eternal indecisiveness and insecurity and the way Atsushi reminds Kyouka every day that she can do good and that she is good. How they saved each other and how they keep saving each other every day. I've said it a lot of times that Atsushi is profoundly selfish and that all good actions he does are to be traced back to some twisted conception of self-survival, but if there's really anyone Atsushi loves selflessly and unconditionally, that has to be Kyouka. If there is such a thing as platonic soulmates, Kyouka and Atsushi definitely are for me; they're just so siblings in a way I can't even put in words. AND AND AND her relationship with Akutagawa I've talked about endlessly before!!! Her relationship with Dazai!!! KOUYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Kyouka and Kouyou chapter my beloved aka the only bsd chapter to pass the Bechdel test). Omg potentially Yosano!!!!! Kenji Kenji Kenji!!!!!!!!! I just. Love Kyouka a lot okay she gets me emotional. Kyouka supremacy forever. (Also, she's dubbed by beloved tpn Emma va Sumire Morohoshi :') )
*Catches breath*
One female character you'd want to rewrite?
Ah, as of now, definitely Teruko. Here's the story I imagine her having: she fought the Great War by Fukuchi's side, as her second in command; despite what her appearance may have looked like back then, she's about the same age as him. She doesn't love or worship him, but she surely admires him a lot; they were comrades and she learnt from him a lot of her ideals on how soldierse have to stain their hands and do horrible, ruthless things in order for the majority of citizens to live safe and happy. She learnt to adore the cause because of him, and she's very loyal to her uniform. She started dressing as a young girl after the war ended, as a way to negate the cruel and traumatic experience of war in her mind and withdraw to the unknowing, happy times of childhood (while still staying her and self-aware; it's just an ephemeral relief). The rest of the story proceeds pretty much as it is in canon, but when Fukuchi reveals to her that he's actually a terrorist working with the doa, she doesn't side with him. She actually feels throughout betrayed, because he had been this pillar of justice and integrity for her, and knowing he was actually a terrorist left her shell-shocked. She DOES act like she's following him, because she is smart and experienced and she knows that she can't take him on her own (differently from Tachihara and Jouno who faced him alone with no backup. Lol. They're a little stupid.), and waits for the moment he lets his guard down to strike and impale him. AND NOT BECAUSE HE ASKED HER TO. WHICH IS HONESTLY TERRIBLE UNDER EVERY ASPECT. Insert here a flashback with her backstory and how Fukuchi himself taught her that justice comes before anything else, because it's the prime tool to serve citizens and pursue world peace. Interior turmoil and trauma for killing the person she respects the most ensues. Now that's how I would write Teruko, because I care about her.
Female character you see the most wasted potential in?
Probably Naomi!!! I love how sly and ingenious she is even in spite of not having an ability, I really hope we'll get to see more of her. I like the theory of her being a projection of Jun'ichirou's ability, although I acknowledge it's problematic in the way it takes away even more agency from her character; even then, it would be cool if she took the form of some kind of sentient ability like Gab in 55 Minutes, or if Jun'ichirou himself was a projection of Naomi (eh. a girl can dream). I really like @frankenjoly's headcanon that she and Mori would be besties, I think about it a lot ahah, I can really see it.
ALSO Higuchi and her ability C'MON I know it's there!!! It MUST be there because bsd so far has been following a very strict pattern where all characters named after writers have abilities, while non ability users are named after novels' characters or non-writers irl people (not to talk about Sakunosuke Oda's The Literature of Possibility passage that's mentioned at the start of the Dark Era novel, with the novel creating a DIRECT connection between writers irl and ability users in the bsd world). I really really hope after this arc is over we'll get an Higuchi arc!!!!
That said, pretty all characters I feel have wasted potential pffttt. Give Lucy and Yosano more screentime!! BRING KOUYOU BACK!!!!!! Finally elaborate on Agatha who's the only female organization leader!!!!! Gin!!!!!!! Wells!!!!!!!!!!

Saiyuki Novel by Minekura Kazuya/Misagi Hijiri (published by G-Fantasy / Square Enix in 1999): Introductions and links to translations of the Drama CDs
This post was inspired by @miss-fiery’s musing on Sanzo’s seemingly unlimited supply of bullets. 😁
Tumblr media
As stated on the Saiyuki fandom wiki page, the novel consisted of three volumes. Interestingly, I have always thought of each volume as a separate novel.
Why? The plots are independent of each other. To understand and enjoy the stories, you do not need to read the novels (or volumes) or listen to the Drama CDs in order.
Now, on to the introductions and my brief thoughts on each volume.
Volume 1: Kaen no Zanmu
Goku rescued a baby in a wooden crate floating down the river (sounds familiar, right). Hakkai got rid of a salamander youkai who turned up to claim the baby as his prize. On closer examination, the Ikkou discovered that the baby possessed red eyes and hair.
They entered a nearby town, only to be greeted with hostility by the townspeople. It turned out that the town had a pact with a youkai, a different one from the youkai that Hakkai had killed. Each household were to send a member as a sacrifice to this youkai. Otherwise, the town would be attacked by the youkai.
The Ikkou met the baby’s young aunt, Rikei, who told them that she intended to send her nephew to the youkai again. The penalty for not sending a sacrifice was a wholesale massacre of the household. Moreover, since the baby’s parents were dead and she was his sole surviving relative, she reasoned that the baby would not survive anyway if she were to offer herself as the sacrifice.
The Ikkou, or rather, Goku, came up with a ‘brilliant’ plan to save both the baby and the town.
The hanyou baby served as a plot device and to highlight Gojyo’s and to a lesser extent, Sanzo’s pasts.
Translation of the Drama CD by KonnyakuHonyaku can be found here.
Bonus: Horiuchi Ken'yū played the unfortunate salamander youkai who met his end at Hakkai’s hands.
Volume 2: Kyouka Suigetsu
A bloodthirsty mass-murderer seemed to be making their way toward Chang’an. Several nearby villages had already been wiped out at the start of the story. Because of the gruesome way the victims were killed (torn apart as if by a youkai’s claws) and Hakkai’s past, the monk-enforcers tasked with investigating the murders considered him the prime suspect.
Goku befriended the sole witness to one of the mass murders, a boy called Yoku, who seemed to still be in shock. Yoku had no idea how the murderer looked like. He only remembered hearing the unseen murderer utter the word ‘Kanan’....
Meanwhile, Gojyo had to deal with a hostile new housemate whom Hakkai had brought home one rainy night. Sanzo was away on a mystery mission from the Three Aspects, a mission apparently unconnected to the case of the mass murders.
Hakkai’s past is the focus of this volume, which also explained how he met Hakuryuu/Jeep and why our lovable little dragon seemed to have two names.
Translation of the Drama CD by Anthey Oom can be found here.
Note about this translation: There are places that did not make sense to me until I listened to the corresponding sections in the Drama CD and realized that those translations were technically correct, if one were to substitute the phrases with their homonyms. My guess is that the translator did their best in a pre-jisho.com era. Although their grasp of Japanese did not seem to be as good as KonnyakuHonyaku’s. the mistakes are understandable, since Japanese is rife with homonyms.
[As an aside, virtually all subtitling projects of Japanese (TV) Dramas today employ Japanese subtitles, which can be machine-translated to English and then checked manually. One has to be very brave and foolish (or a die-hard fan) to translate by ear these days. I am still looking for a machine-translator that can handle Drama CDs and do not require installations on a Linux/Unix machine or expertise in Python. DeepL and Google Translate might work with short sentences but not an hour worth of dialogues. Until then, I am slowly translating some favorite BL Drama CDs in my free time, averaging 1-2 minutes worth of dialogues each night....]
Volume 3: Rasen No Koyomi
Having run out of bullets, Sanzo asked Hakkai to make a detour to a small town, where an old blacksmith acquaintance lived.
During the drive to the town, we hear a juicy tidbit from Hakkai about how Gojyo narrowly escaped a forced marriage. Later, we get more insight into why it is a bad idea for Gojyo and Goku to room together, at least, bad for the proprietor of the inn.
The flashbacks reveal an adventure of Kouryuu’s not long after he left the Kinzan temple. Wounded after an encounter with some youkai and having lost his consciousness, he woke up in the dwelling of a strange man, who sardonically replied to Kouryuu’s curt question of “You are?” with: “What do you want to know about me? Age? Name? Or my type when it comes to the ladies? My three sizes?” 🤣
Back to the present, after an apparently humdrum walk, Gojyo returned to the inn with a guest. The problem is, only Hakkai and Sanzo were able to see the guest, at least in the beginning....
The focus of this volume is obviously on Sanzo, but 39/93 fans will enjoy the tender moment between Sanzo and Goku near the end.
Translation of the Drama CD by KonnyakuHonyaku can be found here.

I don’t think an ADA member will be transferred to the Port Mafia, here’s why;
please do keep in mind that this is solely my own personal interpretation and nothing I say should be taken as a fact, I just want to type out my thoughts so that others can come to their own informed opinions and conclusions
So, earlier I decided to rewatch Yosano’s backstory episodes, and that’s where I noticed something I’ve completely missed the first two times, when Yosano confronts Mori about his motives she tells him “I know you can prove our innocence, you just don’t want to do it unless we’ve heard your terms.” and what I find odd about this is that, at this point, the Port Mafia had already met the end of their bargain since they’ve saved the Agency and brought them to their hideout, so why is Yosano bringing up an entirely new deal onto the table?
As far as we’re aware, the agreement was that the Port Mafia would save the Agency from the Hunting Dogs in exchange of one of it’s members, there is no mention of the Port Mafia proving the Agency’s innocence, that’s an entirely separate matter. Unless we understood that wrong, and the agreement is actually in exchange of Mori proving the Agency’s innocence, and not just aid their momentary escape. Why would Fukuzawa even agree to such terms? A member of the Agency for a simple temporary escape plan that in no way guarantees the continuous safety of half of the Agency members, not even all of them, is quite a huge price to pay.
To back up this theory, later after that scene we see Yosano walking down a tunnel where she is stopped by Tanizaki and Kenji, Tanizaki asks where she’s going, he further questions if she’s going to meet the ambulance that Atsushi and Kyouka were being sent in to fulfill Fitzgerald’s deal with them, which was providing them the evidence they needed to prove the innocence of the Agency, so essentially the same deal they allegedly had with Mori, despite thinking that it’s a trap, because that’s how badly she doesn’t want to join the Port Mafia. This to me pretty much implies that Yosano would much rather take on Fitzgerald’s deal to prove their innocence than Mori’s, which would mean that, no, the Port Mafia hasn’t met the end of the deal, because the Agency didn’t accept their help in the end, the deal was broken by Fitzgerald, there is no transference anymore.
Of course you can argue that the Port Mafia technically did send Chuuya to help Dazai in Meursault, but I also think this was a crucial decision for the Port Mafia because they were literally on thin line because of the vampire outbreak. Had Chuuya not been there with Dazai and had Ranpo not confronted Bram, the Port Mafia would’ve practically lost everything they own, I feel like that’s enough of a payback on it’s own, they shouldn’t be requiring more from the Agency on top of that, because at the end of the day the Armed Detective Agency helped save the Port Mafia as much as the Port Mafia helped save the Agency if not more.
