Fic WIP: "The Return of Ra's al Ghul"

Tim figured that something like this would happen eventually. He just wished he wasn’t the only other person in the cave. Or that he had Damian’s Torch. He felt Conrad’s hands on his shoulders, gentle, friendly. He was trying too hard to not seem threatening. But his hands were shaking, Tim knew that meant he was terrified. But Tim also knew that Conrad was not at all afraid of him. 

Maybe he was afraid of himself?

“Hey, Tim?”

Mirror his demeanor, figure out why he’s upset. “What’s up?”

“I need some information.”

“From me specifically?”

“You’re smart.”

“Well, yes, but I don’t think that’s why--”

“Tell me about Ra’s al Ghul.”

Tim’s pupils dilated. How did he find out? Everyone swore not to tell him until it was dealt with, how did he--

“Why?”

“I’m curious.”

“Why didn’t you look him up?”

“Above my clearance. Which is weird, right? I’m the main Sapphire for the sector now, you think I’d be trusted enough to know about a guy who wants to cleanse the Earth? Especially when he’s family? Well. Not my family yet, but you get what I’m saying.”

On the one hand, Tim was relieved that Conrad wasn’t planning to turn him into a Red Robin themed, luminescent pin-cushion, but on the other…

“Conrad, I'm not going to help you kill him.”

Tim braced himself for a painful reaction, but was met with a sigh instead. “...That’s not what I’m asking. I wouldn’t ask you that, partially because you wouldn’t, mostly because frankly, I wouldn’t need the help. I just need enough data to come to a conclusion.”

“Well I’m not going to tell you to kill him either.”

“Christ, Tim, I’m not dumb, I DO know you.”

Tim brushed him off and turned around to face him directly. “Well then what do you want me to tell you?”

“I want to know if you’d stop me.”

Tim hesitated. “...What?”

“You’re not Bruce, you’re not Dick, you’re not Damian. Sure, you’re not a killer, but you’re also not that sentimental. You won’t do it. But would you stop me? Is his life worth enough to you that you’d risk getting in my way to save it?”

“Every life is worth--”

“Don’t pretend to be Bruce, tell me what you would do. What you would want to do.”

Tim grit his teeth. “I’d want to convince you that we had it under control enough that you wouldn’t have to consider murder. I’d want to convince you that that’s not what we do, and that there are reasons for that. I’d want to convince you that I care about you enough to not want to see you throw a live grenade into your relationships.”

Conrad tilted his head to the side, expression mostly blank except for the subtle, sad twist of his lips. He closed his eyes and sighed.

“...But you still haven’t said you’d stop me.”

the problem is that they get along. the problem is that they can’t stop themselves from falling naturally into a rhythm of riffing off one another and enjoying the other’s company. THAT is the problem. the problem is that it works and that’s the thing that caused all their issues. they like one another. they just click.

the crazy thing is u can legitimately see wade wilson, the merc w a mouth, willingly choose to be gentle with logan — specifically after the fight/fuck in the car. because at first wolverine was just a thing to use. he was one of hundreds of thousands of logans in the multiverse, and he existed to save wade’s timeline. but logan saw right thru wade within hours of knowing him (and was able to hurt him). and in turn wade saw logan……they are very alike in a lot of ways. wade uses humor and logan his anger but they both have deep trauma (years of being seen as only killers, being turned into a “monster” by the government, suicidal tendencies), they both have self esteem and insecurities, they both feel like they don’t deserve to be loved or to be happy, they both struggle to trust. logan was called the worst wolverine and when wade realized why and how close it hit home w his own issues, it became oh. that’s not just a wolverine, that’s my wolverine. he’s wounded and he wants to die and he never wants another person to get close to his heart because god it hurts but at the same time he wants to live & love. and wade chose to be the one to bring him home & help him do so

May I present, my attempt at illustrating the last four pages of Tevinter Nights. 😁 (Also, the first time I'm posting art on here!)

As the whole thing was quite literally too long to post on tumblr, I uploaded the full version on a customized site made for reading webcomics (via ComicFury). On a personal note though, I can't believe I actually finished it... As it had been a *very* long time since I drew (and finished) anything, let alone a 31 page comic and reading Tevinter Nights again finally sparked my motivation (and the courage to post it lol). So I want to thank Patrick Weekes for helping me overcome this massive art block and over two decades of Case Closed mangas for inspiring me how to draw an overly dramatic "exposing the imposter" moment. 😂 I tried my best to be as faithful to the book as possible and it took me forever, so... hope you like it! :D
