She's a Silver Lining
Chapter Nine of I Can't Help Myself
Summary: Spencer comes to terms with your abduction.
Warnings: ANGST, Suicidal ideation, kidnapping, mentions of fetal abduction and murder of pregnant women, descriptions of abuse, descriptions of prenatal care, typical case details. Spencer is depressed.
A/N: I'm sorry this chapter is a day late, I literally saw God this weekend (I saw Taemin perform live), and really, all that's been on my mind is how God is Good (Taemin is hot), and so I haven't been able to write anything as depressing as this chapter. I hope you enjoy (?) it anyway~âĄ
Masterlist || tags are currently broken, I'm sorry âĄ
Eight days. It had been eight days since Spencer had last seen you. Eight days since he'd screwed up his one job so massively that he'd lost you.Â
He'd lost people before. He'd lost people on cases. Victims, unsubs, bystanders, and family members who didn't stand a chance at recovering from their own loss. He'd lost Maeve, which was a little too similar to his current circumstances to think about too hard. He'd been losing his mother since he was born, and he'd really lost her again a few months ago. He'd lost Gideon. He'd lost Elle, too, before that. He'd lost Emily, and though she'd come back too, it wasn't the same. He'd lost Morgan, and then Hotch. He'd lost Alex Blake.
He'd lost nearly everyone in his life. Some of them had come back, most of them hadn't.Â
He'd thought himself immune to the pain of losing someone at last.Â
He'd certainly lost enough of himself in prison.Â
It may have only been 84 days, but whatever was left in him of hope before was gone. He'd emerged completely empty.Â
He supposed that's why he'd accepted the role at the university. There was nothing left for him to give to the BAU, but he couldn't be the one to leave.Â
As it was, he'd already been unsettled enough by leaving you behind when he'd finished up his time there.Â
It felt weird to him, saying goodbye. Not that he'd actually said goodbye. He'd kissed your forehead as he slipped out of your bed, sure, but you'd been neither conscious, nor fond of him in anyway. It was a parting gesture just for him and he hadn't been quite sure why he'd done it.Â
It was just a gesture and one he'd repeated multiple times after getting you back. You didn't know, of course. How could you?Â
He'd either woken up before you and kissed your forehead, or climbed into bed beside you late at night and greeted you then.Â
You'd lain side by side, drifting to sleep slowly, when he realized it had become a daily habit.Â
He hadn't any idea of what he'd do when you left.Â
And now you had. And it was his fault.Â
In the eight days since you'd been kidnapped, Spencer had come to terms with a few facts.
He knew 64,956 women were currently declared missing in the United States. He knew that 77% of adults reported missing were found in 24 hours. You weren't. He knew 4% were found in 48 hours. You weren't. Only 3% were usually missing still after a week.Â
You were somehow in that small minority, even though there was an entire team of FBI agents working around the clock to find you.Â
He'd had faith in his coworkers before. Before, he'd begged for their help, and they'd succeeded in 24 hours, even if the outcome wasn't preferable.Â
This time, he didn't beg. He had no faith. He just hoped to be present with a gun, loaded with two bullets, if this time went the way of the last.Â
On the eighth day after your abduction, Spencer finally returned home.
The damage from your abduction was still apparent.Â
Not that your captor had left many clues. In fact, they'd left none. Not even a fingerprint or a good angle on the CCTV. But he hadn't taken returning to an empty apartment well.
He slashed through the crime scene tape quickly, letting in hang in the doorway as he entered. The bookshelves he'd attacked were limping, leaning on each other for support after he'd ripped books off so violently he'd set them askew.Â
He'd kicked and ripped and punched the wall so hard he'd needed stitches that he'd absolutely refused to get.Â
He'd cried and sobbed into his bloodied and bruised hands until Emily had arrived, and then he'd cried some more, leaning on his friend, his sister, for her support.Â
Returning now, there wasn't a single tear left.
In the hospital, they'd addressed his flesh wounds, but the emotional ones would never hear.Â
You were gone. And now there was only a 3% chance he'd ever see you again.Â
Emily hadn't allowed him to stick around to make their jobs harder. She's placed him on house arrest - funnily enough, her house, where you should've been if he wasn't such a selfish ass - and assigned a watch.Â
Sheâd said it was for protection, but what she'd meant was it was to protect him from himself.
The rest of the team had avoided the topic entirely. They didn't know how to deal with whatever stage of grief he was going through. Many of them had comforted him the first time. They didn't know how to do it a second. They didn't know if they could.Â
After eight days, Spencer had left Emilyâs apartment. He'd dodged the Agent she'd stationed alongside him, got into a taxi, and gone home.Â
Surveying the damage, he was surprised how deep the hurt had already cut to not feel much anymore.Â
He looked at the books splayed on the floor. It was a title that you'd been reading that week. One he remembered you using at the office, one that had been on both of your courses reading lists. He picked each of them up and put them back on the shelf. He righted each shelf and organised them neatly, how he thought you'd like them.Â
He picked pillows up and rearranged them. He vacuumed the debris from the floor, the thin layer of dust that had gathered since he'd left, the splinters pf bookcase that had crumbled off, the shards of wall that were speckled with his blood.Â
He wept the entire time, though silent, until there were no tears left to cry.Â
Then he'd come across a tiny package underneath his coffee table, a single corner of plastic peaking out, begging for attention.Â
He'd picked it up and wept again as he found depths of sadness to reach further down than what he'd assumed to be rock bottom.Â
Aa he lay in a pool of his own despair, a new, haunting fact crashed from his brain to his heart. Since 1987, there had been 21 foetal abductions in the USA. 19 of them had ended in homicide, with the mother dying.Â
You made 22.Â
In the two months since you'd been abducted, you'd learned three things.Â
The first was that you absolutely loved Spencer Reid. You'd spent enough time sitting introspectively about everything in your life to realize you had to stop being so stubborn and admit just that. You'd been about there before all of this, but now you knew for sure.Â
You should be cursing the man that inspired your horror show of a life, after all. But instead, you thought about him and held back tears.Â
She gave you updates these days, testing your reactions to his name, waiting to see you crack, to see you cry, and sob and break down completely.Â
Today, Spencer had been to see his mother, she said. He'd broken down in her arms and caused her to have an episode. She'd hit him so hard, his face had already been bruised by the time she saw him.Â
The second thing you knew was that your baby was going to be born healthy. You had no plans of having a home birth, but now, at seven months pregnant, and large enough that you almost thought about doing your conception math again, you knew you were on track for giving birth in the room you'd been in for the last 58 days.Â
You hadn't counted.Â
Sheâd been good enough to tell you the date, the day, and her plans every morning when she visited you. She checked your vitals, your blood pressure, the position of the baby, your temperature, your heart rate, and recorded everything in her chart. She asked you how the pregnancy was going, almost as if she was the nurse she'd been training to be.Â
Her bedside manner was so good some days. You forgot entirely that you were tied down to the bed, ankle clamped down.Â
She let you walk for an hour a day, but recommended bedrest after that for health reasons. You didn't complain or talk back because she didn't like that.Â
She let you read, and she was even curious about your reading, asking you questions and taking notes as if this were just part of her regular college schedule, an office hour that had taken over her life.Â
You shuddered sometimes as she stared up at you with those big eyes, so wide, and young, and naive, and full of hatred, and evil, and you wanted to claw them out and scream for help, and stab her with the pencil she wrote notes with, and stab, and stab, and stab, and-
The third thing you knew was that you'd never hold your baby in your arms because you'd be dead moments after they breathed their first breath.
You knew, because she had told you as much everyday since you'd woken up.Â
In two months, Spencer had become more manic and self-destructive than he'd ever been in his entire life.Â
His world centred around you, and finding you, even as his 3% slipped to 1%, slipped to 0.1%, and he knew deep inside that he'd never see you again.Â
He hadn't returned to the BAU but had instead turned his home into an investigation room, emptying the walls so he could pin up information, evidence, pictures of you, everything he could find. It wasn't that he'd regained hope, but he'd grown so desperate that he suddenly gripped hard onto the only slither of it that he had left and refused to drop it. He was a dog that didn't know the game of fetch only conti he'd if he dropped the ball. His life would not go on without you.
So he searched. He knew how far along you were. He knew how far along a woman had to be for a c section, professionally performed or not.Â
He barricaded himself into his house and paced for days as his friends pounded down his door. He let none in. He didn't go out. He wasn't sure what he ate, or drank, or if he slept, but he knew he paced, and he thought, and he came up with theories.Â
After two months, Emily was tired of knocking.Â
âSpencer Reid, I am coming in,â she shouted from behind the door.Â
He usually ignored her. She couldn't pass the bookshelves he'd moved in front of the door anyway, even if his superintendent had given her a key.Â
This time though, he heard a banging, a creak and a crash as the bookshelves went down and Emily, who had left him and returned, made her way inside his apartment.Â
âYou barricaded the door?â she said, looking at him.Â
He took a shaky breath and tried to answer as she surveyed his apartment, the mess of papers, books, string on the wall. He saw her stare down at the pile of sheets on the floor where he'd been sleeping, the bag of your things he had dragged to be closer to him.Â
He saw her look at the baby shoes, and baby grows he'd laid out neatly on the floor, and he saw the pitying look she turned on him.Â
âShe's pregnant,â he finally said out loud, though you must've been 7 months along by then. âI'm going to be a father.â
âSpencer,â Emily said, grasping his hand, voice cracking from the strain of emotion that coated her tongue, making her voice thick. âYou would've been an amazing father.âÂ
âNo. No-â he said, breaking away and moving back to his wall. âNo past tense, I won't let you⌠I won't let you give up on them.âÂ
âIt's been two months.âÂ
âSo she's only seven months pregnant. I have two more months to find her, Emily. Two more. At least allow me that.âÂ
The tears in his eyes streamed freely now as she nodded.Â
âWe willâŚ. you know we'll help you. We'll do everything we can, so come to the office.âÂ
He didn't want to give up his space. His reminders of you, the baby grows, the information he'd gathered.
Equally, he didn't like Emily being in this space. She thought you were already dead, and he couldn't even look her in the eye.Â
Reluctantly, he nodded, lifting himself up on legs weakened by insurmountable grief, and he followed her to Quantico.Â
By the end of your third trimester, you wondered how you could ever have gotten so big. When you gave birth, the child inside of you would only be the size of a small pumpkin. You felt like you'd swallowed five regular size pumpkins whole, and you felt you were still expanding.Â
The point worried her. She'd broken two glasses in tantrums this last week alone, measuring you every day.Â
The closer you got to birth, the more agitated she grew.Â
âThis demon inside of you is going to kill you. I won't even have to do it myself,â she'd whispered to herself, or to you, as she took your vitals that morning.Â
âPlease don't say that.âÂ
âWhy not? You're a whore, and you're going to give birth to a devil. You have seduced my soul mate, because you are a jezebel and the Lord is punishing you.âÂ
You'd needed all the strength you could get for these conversations. Even one tear, and she'd erupt and put a knife at your neck. With only a few weeks left, there was no saying whether she'd speed her plan along.Â
âI did not seduce your soul mate,â you said as calmly as you could muster, taking deep breaths, hoping that she would mirror them and calm down.Â
âDo we have to watch the fucking video again?â she spat at you, stomping around to the side of your bed and pulling out her phone. She queued up the video quickly and you averted your eyes.Â
She turned them back quickly, holding your head in place as she forced you to watch your own office space. She showed you the videos of you and Spencer talking, teasing each other. She showed you the video of you insisting you were not attractive to him. She showed you the video of Spencer fucking you on the sofa, though she screamed and cut her fingernails into her skin the entire way through.Â
She even showed you the video of her attempting to seduce Spencer during their office hour. It was the first video in her collection, the first time she'd set up the camera. She used your entrance as proof that you were breaking her apart from her soul mate. From Spencer.Â
You were a whore who had thrown herself at him in anyway you could, and you had trapped him with a baby.Â
She was going to free him from all responsibility so he could be with her.Â
âMy baby will be your devil,â she said as the video ended, and you forced your heart to settle.Â
âIt is not your baby.â
âSpencer won't know that. He doesn't know it's your baby either, and who are the authorities going to believe when I show up with his child. One paternity test later, and I'll have him, and we can be a happy family together, and we can live happily. I'll take in your devil and raise it as my own, and we'll forget about the whore who almost ruined it all.â
The psychosis was so clearly written on her face, you were surprised no one had caught onto her state yet. She was devolving. She'd been calm, and contemplative the first week. She'd laid out her plans still, her insane plans, and seemed somewhat coherent.Â
Then she'd began rambling about the devil and soul mates, and you'd pitied her, even in your fear.Â
Now you were just glad she counted your office tryst as your conception date, and you'd never corrected her.Â
She still believed there was a month left until your death. You knew it was days.Â
You just prayed your baby could buy you some time.
âProfessor?â she said as she carried away the tray of items she'd checked your vitals with
âYes.âÂ
âYou are not in love with Spencer Reid,â she said, as if trying to convince you.Â
âNo,â you said, trying to convince yourself though it was hopeless. âI am not in love with Spencer Reid.â
The first lead in the case came on your due date. Patient confidentiality was, happily, overlooked by a few doctors when he pressed the issue, needing to know until when he was counting down.Â
He'd done the rough math himself, but he needed a professional opinion.Â
The lead came in the form of an email. The university was cleaning out your office to make way for a new professor, despite his insistence that you'd return, and they needed him to collect things.Â
And though he knew you'd be giving birth that day, and he had run out of time, something compelled him to go and do this menial task on today of all days.Â
Luke had joined him, and then so had JJ and Emily, and Penelope and Tara. Rossi had even arrived to watch you pile books into boxes that were supposed to have lived on these shelves for a long career. Everyone in the room was so busy watching him, waiting for him to crack, that it had to be him to find it.Â
At first, he thought it was a hole in the couch. It was so dark and black, its curved corners giving the illusion of introversion. Then he'd touched it and felt the rough bump.Â
âPenelope, here, now,â he breathed out, gasping for air as he finally pulled the tiny spy camera free and thrust it into his friends hands.Â
He had a lead. He had you now.Â
The first hour of labour was inconvenient only because you weren't alone. She'd been tending to you all morning, fussing over your food, trying to maintain the right amount of prenatal vitamins as she usually did, but she'd ran out of two bottles, and the pharmacy wasn't open.Â
You sat still and uncomfortable, trying to not even flinch as your water broke, too afraid of death to be thinking about the life you were bringing into this world.Â
The second hour ticked by much the same until she left.Â
The third came, and you ceased your screams of pain, even as your hands bore holes into your sheets. She returned, and you knew there wasn't much longer until she knew.Â
By hour four, she had your legs spread and was watching you deliver your baby, and you knew the same blade that would sever your umbilical cord would also end your life.Â
By hour five, you were so delirious with pain that you thought you saw Spencer. You heard his voice cooing to you as you pushed. You felt his hands wipe away your sweat, smooth the hair from your eyes. You heard his voice announce your daughters birth, and you felt his lips against your skin as you finally gave up fighting and drifted into oblivion.Â

part one
requests are open!!
shockingly, when you went to Steveâs house that night, you two didnât sleep together. Which was his idea. He said he felt like maybe you two oughta get to know each other better before you went that far. You were visibly upset by that but Steve insisted it would be better that way.
So thatâs how you find yourself a couple weeks later, holding hands with him as you walk through the mall. If you didnât know any better, youâd swear you were dating but Steve didnât ask you to be his girlfriend. But you two have been spending almost every day together, after work and on your days off. Like today, the pair of you have the day off but you wind up at the mall anyway. He called you this morning and asked if you wanted to hang out. To which you told Steve you needed to get a new pair of shoes for work, since yours were falling apart and he offered to tag along. He even picked you up.
You make eye contact with your coworkers as the pair of you stroll passed the food court. They make crude hand gestures and so you squeeze Steveâs hand and walk faster. Heâs none the wiser, eyes scanning around the crowded mall. You catch yourself staring at him. Youâve had this like, really intense feeling in your chest ever since you and Steve started hanging out. Itâs tight, almost like your lungs donât have enough air. And heâs literally all you think about, all you can talk about. Steve, Steve, Steve. On a loop, to a nauseating extent. Not nauseating to you, but most likely to your family and friends. But really, heâs so dreamy.
âWhere do you usually get your work shoes?â Steve asks, grazing his thumb against the back of your hand.
âSears,â you answer honestly. Steveâs parents are in a vastly different tax bracket than your own so you get a little self conscious about these kinds of things. You were incredibly impressed with his house. And it took a good convincing from him to let him come over to yours. Especially because while Steveâs parents werenât home when you went over there, yours were at yours always. And they were embarrassing, even though you were an adult now, they hovered. And you couldnât close your door when he came over. Your mom about talked his ears off, too but Steve was charming and when he left, your mom told you he was sweet and she liked him.
âCool,â he nods, âWhat do you wanna do after this?â
You shrug, walking into the entrance of Sears, âI donât know.â
âWe can use my pool,â he offers, âItâs really nice out, today.â
You blush, the thought of being in your swimsuit in front of Steve is kind of a lot. Even though you two have messed around, youâve been almost completely dressed each time. Really, youâve just been doing the same thingâ dry humping but Steve always pulls your tits out. He actually stares at them sometimes, gets this look on his face that makes you feel like a million bucks. His eyes get all glassy and he looks dazed as he watches them bounce with your movements. It makes you feel sexy and youâve never felt that way in your life. But being so exposed in broad daylight is rather intimidating.
âYeah, maybe,â you reply shyly, cheeks ruddy at the thought of him seeing your body. âWeâd have to go get my swimsuit, though.â
âWeâre at a mall,â Steve chuckles, âYou can just buy one.â
Well, you didnât anticipate spending too much today. But again, youâre embarrassed so you wonât say that. You just shrug, âIf I can find one.â
âI can help,â he grins, eyebrows raising as he nudges his side against you. Which just makes your face ten times more flushed. âOh, look!â Steve points to the section of the store lined with swimsuits, âPerfect.â
The pair of you head that way. Steve motions at a red bikini, which is not something youâd usually wear. Youâre a one piece kind of girl. But now that youâre thinking about it, the swim suit you have at home isnât exactly sexy. And really, you want Steve to look at you with that dreamy look in his eyes again.
âThat oneâs nice,â he says, âAnd my trunks are red, so weâll match.â
You pick up the top, looking it over when you realize you have no idea how to tell your size. Youâre gonna have to try it on. âI need to try it on,â you tell Steve and grab a few sizes before making your way to the dressing rooms, Steve right behind you.
Much to Steveâs dismay, you donât show him the bikini but you get the right size and get your pair of shoes. Steve buys you a smoothie on the way out. But what he does on the ride to his house is really what gets you. As heâs driving, he reaches his hand over and rests it on your thigh. His palm against your bare thigh makes them all tingly and you feel like the car is suddenly really hot, so you roll down the window. Looking out because youâre too shy to look at him. Steve squeezes your thigh and you clear your throat, shifting in your seat.
âYou alright?â he asks, turning to you briefly.
âIâm fine,â you choke out as you look at him.
âIs this okay?â he squeezes your thigh again.
You swallow the lump rising in your throat and nod your head yes, âYeah, it feels nice.â
âGood,â he smiles, his eyes crinkling with it and heâs the prettiest boy youâve ever seen.
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Youâre really nervous, fixing your hair as you look in the mirror. You wished Steve gave you a towel to cover up with before you changed because now you have to make an entrance⌠in this bikini that feels like it barely covers anything. You swear one wrong move and your boobs gonna fly right out. But you think, Steve wonât mind that.
His face confirms it when you finally walk out onto the back patio, seeing Steve laying towels out on the pool loungers. He drops the towel in his hand and his lips part, holding his hand above his brows to shield the sun as he gawks at you. And thankfully, his reaction gives you a breath of confidence and you strut over to him, âNot too bad, huh?â
âFucking unbelievable,â he breathes through a satisfied smile, âYou look amazing.â His hand comes to rest on the back of your waist, dipping his face down to kiss your cheek.
âSteve!â you flush, bringing your hands up to your face. He grabs your wrists and kisses all over face, repeating that you look great over and over. You erupt in giggles, grabbing his hands and pull back.
âWhat? Too much?â he asks, looking down at you with those gorgeous puppy dog eyes.
âI think⌠you need to cool off,â you say slyly before shoving him into the pool, jumping in right after him. Steveâs laughing when he comes up from the water, swimming over to you and wrapping his arms around your waist.
âGood one,â he muses, looking fond, âVery clever.â
âIâm glad you thought so,â you giggle, wrapping your arms around his neck. He kisses you then, and immediately you melt. Kissing Steve is like otherworldly. Itâs like everything around you disappears and itâs just you two. His lips are soft yet firm, kissing you determinedly. His hands are big, cascading up and down your sides.
But then he pulls away and smiles, âWanna race? I bet I can swim from this end to the other faster than you.â
âYouâre on,â you bet and start swimming to the edge of the pool.
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
After you two get out of the pool, your body is all tingly and needy. You dry off and canât keep your eyes off of Steveâs body as he dries off. Eyes scanning over the constellations of moles scattering over his chest, arms and back. He catches you, biting is lip as heâs drying his hair.
âSteve?â
âYeah?â
âI think⌠I wantâŚâ you take a deep breath as your face flushes.
âWhat is it? You okay?â he asks, tilting his head as he gets a look of concern in his eyes.
âI think Iâm ready,â you tell him, âya know.. to do it.â
âReally?â he drops his towel, looking surprised.
âUh huh,â you nod as you smile, so sure of yourself.
He grabs your hand and practically pulls you up to his bedroom. You fall back on his mattress and heâs crawling up between your legs, palm meeting your cheek gently as he crashes his lips into yours. Itâs different than kisses before. Steve seems more urgent, more needy. His hands feel you everywhere, squeezing and pulling wherever he can. Itâs intoxicating and makes your stomach twist, full of desire. You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him even closer and you can feel his cock strained behind his swim trunks rubbing against your core. Itâs familiar, but a bit more charged. Thereâs more coming and it has your back arching. Steve breaks the kiss, âYouâre sure?â
âYes,â you nod, writhing against him, âIâm sure.â
âCool,â he breathes, moving his fingers to untie your bikini top and he pulls it off. His lips find your jaw, leaving sloppy open mouthed kisses wherever they can. Down your neck and over the curve of your breasts, then you feel his tongue against your perked nipple and you whine, knitting your fingers in his damp hair.
He flicks his tongue against it, looking up at your face as he broadly licks it before sucking it between his lips. You gasp, tilting your head back as you try to grind against him harder. Youâre desperate for more friction there. Steve moans against your supple skin, and then his lips work lower. Down your stomach. And you no longer have his erection to grind against but his fingers dip into the waistband of your bottoms. Your breath catches in your throat, looking down at him in anticipation. He looks so pretty, the sunlight shining through the half closed curtains in his bedroom and casting beautifully on his strong eyebrows and sharp nose.
Steve peels your bottoms down your thighs and you move your legs to help him, hands moving to cover your chest. Otherwise, completely exposed to him. Steve kisses your hipbone, spreading your legs with his hands and then moves his mouth between them. Starts with kissing your thighs, but when he actually gets his mouth on your pussy, you cry out. Itâs pleasure in a way youâve never felt and itâs white hot, feel it everywhere. He licks through your folds, humming softly as he does so. Itâs so warm and wet and lovely. Uses his plump lips when he does it, grazing against your folds. And he puts his mouth completely on you, sucks on your folds and his thumb lowers down to your hole, rubbing teasing circles around it and you gasp out. Eyes closing involuntarily as you tilt your head back, focused solely on how incredible this feels.
Itâs almost pathetic how quickly he makes you cum, your cry breaks off as it leaves your lips and your thighs squeeze his head while you ride it out. Steve watches you with a look of shock on his face, flattery, really. Impressed with himself at quick he made that happen. Smoothes his palms along the soft skin of your legs as he forces them open, coming up for air. His cheeks are flushed, a pretty pink blooming over them and the tip of his nose.
âChrist,â he exhales, fingers digging into the fat of your thighs as he beams up at you. âYou okay, princess?â
Your chest heaves while you come down, eyes blinking open as you let out a sigh. The pet name makes your chest tighten, you want Steve to say it again, over and over. âSo okay,â you gasp out as you sit up and look down at him.
He smiles cheekily, nudging his nose against your shaking thighs as he blinks up at you, âYouâre sensitive, huh?â
âNobodyâs ever done that to me,â you admit, tucking your hair behind your ear as you flush.
He chuckles softly, keeps nuzzling against your thigh as he smoothes his palms down your calves. âYou sure you wanna keep going?â
You nod enthusiastically at him, âW-wanna make you feel good.â
Steve pushes you on your back, gets himself on top of you and places a chaste kiss against your lips, mumbles against them, âThat made me feel really good.â
Your hands find his hair, carding in the locks as you kiss his words and roll your hips up to meet him, âI wanna keep going. Maybe I can try.. returning the favor.â
The boy grunts softly into your mouth, the corners of his lips hitching up, âYou ever done that before?â
âNo,â you pout, feeling a little self conscious but more than that, eager. âIâm a really fast learner, though.â
âIâm.. I,â Steve laughs, breath hot against your mouth, âMight need a break after, but⌠hell, weâve got all night.â
âA break?â you ask curiously and Steve nods against you, foreheads bumping together. He cups your cheek, kisses you tenderly.
âMhm, canât go again as quick,â he mumbles into your lips, grounds his hips down and you can feel him through his swim trunks. Hard and firm against your sensitive cunt.
You pull him back slightly, looking up at him tenderly as you say, âI really wanna try.â
He laughs again, breathless and itâs not mean, it makes your heart warm. The sound of him. Pretty and sweet. Makes you that much eager to please; to impress.
Steve rolls onto his back, inches up against his pillows and looks at you, eyes dark despite the fond smile spreading on his face. You sit beside him and your fingers find the elastic of his shorts, inching inside and looking up at him for guidance. He nods, short and soft. You pull down his damp trunks and his cock bounces out, long and thick against his abdomen. He helps rid of the shorts completely, kicking them off his ankles and then he rakes his fingers through your hair. Tilts his head as he looks down at you and says, âJust do what feels natural, princess.â
Your cheeks heat at the name, blooming down your neck and chest. Curious fingers graze down his length, Steve breathes out a pretty soundâ almost a whine, kind of a sigh. Then you wrap your fingers around him, biting your lip at the warmth and weight. He inhales sharply, nodding at you as you lean forward and press your lips to the tip. Experimentally, you lick against the head of his cock and then drag your tongue across the edge of it. Steve groans, keeps stroking your cheek and forehead as he watches you with pupils blown wide.
âThatâs it, baby,â he breathes out, âdoing so good already.â
Youâve still got your fingers circled around his shaft, holding his cock up as you lick the tip like an ice cream cone. But you know youâre supposed to suck, thatâs what youâve been told at least. So you wrap your lips around the head and do just that. It punches a pretty sound from Steveâs throat, distinctly a whine. So you do it again and again and Steve keeps making that sound over and over before he says, âMove your hand, princess. Slow, up and down.â
Head feeling all dizzy, you listen and slowly stroke his cock up and down. But itâs kinda awkwardâ dry. You think it would work smoother if your palm was wet so you pull away and lick your hand before returning it to Steveâs cock, and you were right, the movement is so much easier like this and Steve moans, eyes blinking rapidly as he watches you.
âSuch a fast learner, good girl,â he pants out and youâre smiling, cheeks swelling before you take his tip back between your lips.
You like thisâ a lot. Grinding down against the mattress for some friction, thighs all hot and slick with arousal. Itâs the way he reacts, the sounds he makes and the way his face contorts in pleasure. Steve was pretty before but he looks even prettier like this. He bites at his lower lip, makes it even pinker and plumper. You sink a little more of him into your mouth, careful with your teeth as you swirl your tongue around his swollen tip and then suck. Your jaw aches slightly but itâs so worth it. Steveâs fingers slide into the roots of your hair, gripping softly as he moans out little encouragements.
âSo pretty, so pretty like this.â
And itâs kind of silly because you think he looks so pretty like this. You squeeze his shaft a little tighter as you stroke him, out of pure excitement and Steve groans, guttural and low as he swears, âFuuuuck.â
You suck harder on his tip and continue moving your fingers up and down his length, curving your palm on each upstroke because Steveâs eyes roll back slightly and you want more of that.
âJust like thatâ holyâ- fuckfuckfuck,â Steve pants and moans, âIâm gonna cum.â
Out of pure curiosity, you donât pull off. Because also, when you came, Steve didnât pull away. He makes a choked, broken sound and releases, hot and thick on your tongue. And youâd heard all your coworkers complain about the taste but Steve is sweet, not bitter like youâve been told. You donât hate the taste at all, though the texture is another story. But you swallow it down all the same and Steveâs watching and gasping for air as you pull away. He grabs hold of your face, pulls you close and then wraps his arms around your body, kissing you fiercely, bruisingly.
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
It happens later. Steveâs parents away on yet another business trip, a white lie told to yours about staying the night at a friends and there you are. On his couch. Steve laid on his back, you nestled between his thighs with your cheek on his chest and his legs tangled with you. He plays with your hair as the TV plays late night informercials. Youâre not paying attention, mind wandering as you subtly take in the smell of Steve. Musk and summer, his honey scented shampoo and the sugary candy you two shared on his breath. Fans your face hotly and lovely. Tickles against the ridge of your brows, cascades down to your nostrils and itâs rather intoxicating. Ushers you to lift your face and inch up his body, wanting to taste as you brush your lips against his. His hand snakes down your spine, onto the soft skin at the small of your back, your shirt pulled up just slightly. Steve kisses you back tenderly, sighing so softly you almost miss it.
A thought tugs at the back of your head and you ask against his lips, âWhat are we?â
Steve hums, eyebrow raising as he smiles, âWhat do you mean?â
âLike⌠we spend every day together, we kiss, we⌠do other stuff,â you swallow hard, chest tightening with fear as you repeat, âSo what are we?â
He nudges his nose against yours, âWhat do you wanna be, princess?â
âYours,â you admit, a whisper. Almost silent.
âYou are mine,â Steve replies, squeezing your hip in his hand. You flush something mad, trying to surprise the giggle of excitement from bubbling out of your throat. Itâs fruitless, the sound erupting from you as your cheeks swell. Steve kisses you again, softly and asks against your lips, âYou wanna be my girlfriend, princess?â
You nod as you kiss back, âMhm.â
âThen youâre my girlfriend,â Steve agrees easily, his breath smells so sweet, makes your head all fuzzy.
âAnd youâre my boyfriend?â you test, hand moving up to cup his jaw.
âYou better believe it,â he mumbles, you can hear the smile but even better you can feel it against your lips. You kiss him again, more intent behind it this timeâ fingernails softly scratching at his jaw. Steve drags his tongue along your bottom lip, asking to deepen the kiss which you eagerly agree as you part your lips. He tastes like candy, tooth achingly sweet when you welcome his skilled tongue against your own. It heats up quick, your hips dancing together as the pair of you pant into each others mouths. Steveâs hands lower to the fat of your ass, kneading and pulling. Your thighs feel all tingly, core aching with desperation for him.
Youâre determined, youâve been wanting Steve in that way for so long it feels like and heâs been taking his time with you. Testing the waters when you wouldâve handed it over to him that first night in Scoops Ahoy!
âStevie,â you pant against his mouth, âneed you.â
âYou have me, princess,â he retorts, smiling sweetly as he uses his leverage on your ass to grind you down against him. You can feel his length, hard and firm against your core and you whimper, needy.
âNeed youâ Steve, want you so bad,â you babble into his mouth as you writhe against him.
He taps your bum, âUp. Bedroom.â
You obey, donât have to be told twice, holding his hand as he leads you to his bedroom. He kisses you once youâre inside, guides you backwards until the backs of your knees hit the mattress and you fall into it, pulling Steve with you, refusing to pull your lips away from his. Which is a feat when you two start undressing one another. When you do have to pull away to rid of articles, you whine and Steve chuckles, gives you what you want seconds later. Smoothes his hands down your naked body as he licks into your mouth. He pulls back, on his knees between your legs as he licks the tips of his fingers and brings them to your core, exhaling sharply once heâs met with the evidence of just how much you need him.
This is it, you think. As he licks his fingers again and smears the saliva over his aching tip, guiding it towards your entrance and you whine out, just when skin meets skin. Readier than ever, overwhelmingly desperate to feel Steve inside you. Your back arches as he sinks in, just the tip of him stretching you open. Itâs pleasure incarnate, radiates through your stomach and eats at all your nerves.
âMore,â you plead, grabbing onto his biceps as you roll your hips. Steve sinks in deeper and itâs a little intense, searing and hot and also so, so, so perfect. Pulls a high pitched moan from you. Steveâs rubbing soothing circles against your stomach.
âTell me if itâs too much, yeah?â
You nod, digging your nails into his skin. Making little crescent indents. He lowers his mouth to yours, grazing your lips together as he sheathes his cock deeper inside. You gasp out, eyes clenching tightly at the burn. Steve kisses you through it, whispers words of encouragement there. Princess this and princess that. Pushes through this barrier and itâs all white hot pleasure. Bright light behind your eyelids as you moan out appreciation, adoration, desperation. His hips still, giving you the opportunity to adjust. Kisses you stupid with sugary sweetness. Tastes just like candy. Your hands are all over him, chest, stomach, shoulders, neck and back. Crying out soft little praising sounds.
He grits his teeth, eyebrows tangled as he pleads, âPleaseâ princess, can I move?â
âPlease,â you beg, âGimmeâŚâ the thoughts lost as Steve winds his hips back and pushes them back down into you. A moan interrupting, voice wrecked already and Steve swallows it, kisses it away as he rolls his hips steadily. Keeps this rhythm that has your eyes rolling back and steady, candied uh-uh-uhâs fall from your lips.
Steveâs left hand holds himself up, palm to the mattress while his right grips tightly at your hip. Your legs open, ankles hooking over the backs of his thighs and your hands are still everywhere, taking in whatever you can. The way heâs stretching you out and filling you up at the same time is intoxicating, euphoria dripping all over you. Youâre almost mad that youâd waited so long but itâs all too perfect. And maybe Steveâs been right and waiting is what made this moment the best thing youâve ever experienced.
His lips are brutal against yours, pushing and pulling. Desperate and hungry. These pretty grunts and moans mushing against your lips.
âSteve,â you whine out, âgodâŚâ
He moves to grab your jaw, tilting your head back into the pillows as he moves his hips quicker, harder. Makes your head spin, the coil in your stomach winding tighter and tighter. All you can really do is lay back and take it, mind gone all numb. Your hips search his out, rocking back into him with every thrust. The tip of his cock reaching something fierce and overwhelming inside you. Brushes against this spot so wonderfully that tears prick your eyes, threatening to spill over onto your cheeks.
âSo perfect for me,â he mumbles into your mouth, âso pretty, so fuckâ fucking gorgeous, princess.â
This wave rushes up on you like nothing before, punches the breath out of your lungs as you grip onto his back, nails scratching down the mole specked skin and Steve groans roughly against your mouth. Your eyes are open but youâre blinded by stars, exploding like fireworks as your eyebrows furrow and you emit a sound so loud, bordering on a cry. Itâs like the drop of a roller coaster but a million times more intense, youâre not on this earth for the seconds it happens. Legs wrapping around his waist, crying out during the aftershocks of it. Steveâs panting against your lips, little whines and moans. Pretty sounds that just elongate the utter ecstasy ripping through your body.
âFuckfuckâ shit, princess, Iâm gonnaââ Steve pulls out of you abruptly, fingers gripping around his cock as he spills over onto your stomach. Makes a choked and broken sound as he does it, your eyes are on his face. Watching the pleasure contort his features in a way that has you obsessed. He pants, chest heaving as he pushes his hair back. Catches his breath, leans down and kisses you softly before exiting the bed. You whine in protest, reaching your hands out for him.
Steve smiles sweetly at you, grabs a dirty towel from his hamper and moves to wipe his cock. You watch in awe, still coming back down to earth. He moves back towards the bed, using the towel to clean off your stomach. He drops it to the floor and curls up next you, pulling your face to his and kisses you stupid.
âWorth the wait?â he asks, teasingly.
You giggle and say against his lips, âWhen can we do it again?â
He laughs, pulling your body flush to his as he says, âYouâre gonna kill me, princess.â

hi, I hope you don't mind me coming to kind of vent in your inbox (please toss this out if you do) but I was reading your post on the contrasting way Viktor and Jayce view their first meeting and it got me thinking about how some people just sorta brush aside Jayce's suicide attempt here as being somehow pathetic or an overreaction to what they consider a slap on the wrist and I kinda get really mad about that perspective because I don't think people really follow through on what the trial actually meant for Jayce and what the consequences reasonably could have been. people seem to think he was just embarrassed by the trial without understanding that that kind of reputational hit can be, and clearly was, ruinous.
setting aside entirely the emotional/psychological repercussions of having the thing he'd dedicated roughly 2/3's of his life to taken away, his very public trial ended with his own mother making an insanity plea on his behalf and his extremely wealthy and influential sponsor dropping him like he was radioactive and the actual ruling body of the city declaring him dangerously incompetent. do any of those people who deride him for the suicide attempt actually take the time to think about what that outcome means for him in a social and professional context? he jokes to Caitlyn about working in his family factory but honestly, it is entirely within the realm of possibility that the fallout of the trial has made him a social and professional pariah and his reputation is in such dire straits that he may be entirely unemployable within Piltover, perhaps even to the point of being toxic to his own family business if they take the reputation hit by association with him.
it's not actually hyperbole or an overreaction for him to stand in the wreckage of his life and think his life is over, to be at a complete loss as to how to move forward or come to the belief that moving forward is impossible and despair, especially if he doesn't have a support network which he pretty clearly doesn't. his only connections appear to be his mother and Caitlyn and, for obvious reasons, they're not viable at this time.
he was drowning and Viktor threw him a lifeline and he spends the literal rest of the story trying to return the favor.
Sorry for the delay in responding, there's a lot here I want to address.
First of all, I absolutely agree. I think people underestimate just how much that trial left his life in wreckage. That said, there's a few points I'd like to add some nuance to from my perspective, along the lines of YEAH THIS WAS REALLY BAD and people underestimate how much Viktor did for Jayce with his vote of confidence.
(This is gonna be a long post y'all but I have a LOT of thoughts and feelings about Jayce here so buckle up if you do proceed.)
1 ) The Kirammans dropping him as his patrons is absolutely devastating. It's actually the moment I think I hated Cassandra Kiramman for the most, which was turning Jayce away from her door at his lowest point, and cutting him off from Caitlyn, who seems to be his only friend before Viktor. I think it also demonstrates just how severe the crime was that she did so, by the way, I don't think she was just being cruel for the sake of it. But the fact that in 1.04 she's then showing off Jayce as an accomplishment of her house is particularly infuriating as a result. It's also no exaggeration to say that the Kiramman rejection was the final straw for him. After that, he decided to take his own life, so Cassandra would have been, in my opinion, directly responsible for his death (ironically saving her own life down the line, but then Arcane S1 is a series of hinging butterfly effect moments) if not for Viktor.
2 ) One layer of nuance I wanted to add to the Kiramman rejection in particular that you mentioned is the idea of him working at the Talis hammer factory because I think about this a LOT.
I do want to push back a little on the idea that he wouldn't be able to make a living for himself at the Talis hammer factory. To me (as someone whose family has a family business, though I don't work for it), it was never in doubt Jayce would have been able to work there the rest of his life. It might have been the only place he could get a job in Piltover, in fact, at least one with any sort of prestige or intellectual pursuit attached (basically, with anyone attached or graduated from the Academy).
However, I think Jayce would have had to work in a non-scientific part of the factory, either out on the floor or in the back office. And this is what I've been wanting to address in meta for a while now.
Caitlyn asks him what he's going to do next and Jayce says, "Work for the Talis hammer factory, I guess?" and she exclaims, "You can't do that!"
I think the nuance missing from your point that I'd like to add my view of that scene to is that Caitlyn is essentially saying, "That would kill you."
I get the very strong impression that Caitlyn and Jayce bonded over being members of their family who wanted bigger things than what their parents wanted for them. It's basically there on the page in this exchange.
We explore directly that Caitlyn wants to be a detective instead of working in politics like her mother, and pursues her dream despite adversity and her mother's disapproval.
But I think from this exchange and the one Jayce also has with his mother Ximena, we can glean that the Talis's also wanted Jayce to work for the factory, the family business, instead of going to the Academy to pursue his dream of magic.
(Also as a person whose family has a family business, that I don't work for, that has their own career and faced a lot of consternation from my family in my desire to be a writer, I feel this one very keenly.)
Jayce to me reads as someone who had to fight his family all his life to avoid going into the family business, in his pursuit of something greater.
With the Hextech dream taken away, all that's left to him is his family business, the thing I'd argue we have evidence that he's been fighting to avoid his whole life. It doesn't inspire him. It's not what he wants.
Joining the Talis factory would kill him. And that's what Caitlyn points out, and that's when he realizes she's right and goes to finish the job by his own hand instead. Further evidence I would say that working for his family business would represent a death of the soul to him, such that a physical death is preferable. But since his family built the business, and his mother clearly has reservations about his pursuit of magic, I think we can safely say he's been feeling similar pressures to Caitlyn to conform and join the business instead.
3 ) Now to go back to Viktor, I think this is another reason that Viktor literally and spiritually saved Jayce's life. Jayce outright says to his mother that if his own family won't believe in him, he'll find someone who will. Whether you read Viktor/Jayce as platonic or romantic (spouses are family, after all, which is how I read it), Viktor is Jayce's family from that point forward.
But Viktor doesn't bring Jayce back from the brink just by believing in him at his lowest moment (which is so powerful it can't be underestimated, btw) he also gives Jayce a bit of tough love too just when Jayce needs it.
Like many children of privilege (I'd firmly put Mel in this category, since she too is "trapped in the family business" I'd argue), Jayce saw himself at rock bottom after he lost his patron, the benefits of his House name, his family's support, his research, his equipment, access to his one friend, his access to the Academy, and his reputation.
Viktor points out that he never had any of those things growing up.
I think this is a welcome slap in the face for Jayce. Viktor rose to be the Dean's assistant on ability alone, without any of the scaffolding of privilege, and it humbles Jayce just when he needs it. Viktor is telling him that Jayce already has everything he needs to succeed and that others like Viktor have gotten further with less.
So not only does Viktor give his vote of confidence, he materially shows Jayce there is a way to achieving his dreams without all of the things he just lost.
Not only that, he's won the respect and assistance of someone who has done it before, someone who admires him for what he's done, someone who will help him make this dream a reality when no one else would.
Of course Jayce dedicated his life to Viktor after that. Of course he saw Hextech as their shared dream after that. I'd argue that of course he saw his life as belonging to Viktor after that point, because Viktor saved it.

Yandere Alastor x Reader who refuses to talk and not just to him but to everyone. Maybe one day he came off way too strong to her and ever since then she hasnât spoken a word. How would he react? Itâs almost like sheâs ignoring him as she always has the far off look in her eyes even when heâs speaking to her.
Not sure if this is quite what you requested, Anon, but hopefully itâs a little satisfactory >_<
Warnings: Yandere!Alastor, Violence
--------------------------------
Everyone is quite worried about you. They have no idea why you suddenly just stopped⌠talking, but Husk and Vaggie have a pretty good guess and it definitely has something to do with their hotelier because of course it does.
Alastor, on the other hand, thinks your reaction to his⌠proposal (not literal, but aww, if you took it that way, he wouldnât have refused your darling little self) is cute at first. So youâre playing hard to get, making him work for it? Usually, itâs demons coming to him asking and begging for deals in exchange for their souls, not the other way around.
Perhaps he was a little too forward, blunt in asking for your soul right away? It seems he was a little too eager to have you solely for himself that he completely forgot his manners â he didnât woo you like a gentleman should.
After a proper courtship, only then should he have sweet talked you into giving him your soul.
But after a while, you refusing to speak, to him, to anyone â just avoiding everyone in general, completely spooked by the near loss of your soul (and Alastor, on some level, can understand your way of thinking, you are relatively new to Hell after all), well, itâs starting to irritate Alastor a little.Â
He does want to hear your lovely voice again.
So, he starts out small, casual things â acts of service, maybe cooking your favourite meal, doing one of your chores around the hotel, buying a trinket on one of his outings. He does hope youâll be at least polite enough to thank him for what heâs doing for you, but all he gets is a shaky nod before youâre running to the âsafetyâ to your room.
Thatâs fine, there are other ways to make people talk.
He just didnât want to have to use them with you, but he didnât realize you were this stubborn and if his kindness was wastedâŚ
Alastor goes to collect any and all acquaintances, friends, and family members of yours to be rounded up and brought to his radio tower. His shadow has forcibly sealed you in Alastorâs room at the hotel and you have to listen in absolute horror as familiar screams are being broadcasted to you through the multiple radios in Alastorâs room.
âMy sweet Doe, I will stop this, but we must make a deal first. Do promise me you will never give me this dreadful silent treatment again and I wonât lay a finger on any of these souls again. Do we have a deal?â
You are completely frozen in fear, the screams echoing in your head. Is this a trick? If you go there, is that what Alastor would do to you too? You donât answer Alastorâs question, you canât.
There is a sigh over the radio and Alastorâs shadow perks up, picking you up a moment later and youâre silently panicking, wondering if these are your last moments alive as you and the shadow travel through the voids right into Alastorâs radio tower.
âInteresting. I didnât believe I would have to go this far, butâŚâ
A breath escapes you and you tense when Alastor pulls you up from the ground, drawing your back to his chest (though he has to lean down some) as he places his hands tightly on your shoulders, claws ripping the fabric of your clothes. âWhile I may prefer the auditory experience, some are visual learners, I suppose.â
At some point, you believe you completely dissociate, unable to keep watching Alastor brutally torture your friends outside the hotel and the few family members you had found and reunited with in Hell and itâs then that Alastor strikes.
He does cast a spell on you after heâs finished with what started this all, his proposal for your soul and now heâs thinking about it, a real proposal may be coming very soon.
Itâs a spell intended to scramble your mind, thoughts, and memories if you ever decide to talk with Charlie and the others again (he honestly thought about just stashing you away elsewhere, but seeing as he spent the majority of his time at the Hazbin Hotel, you would be safest there too), that you would not recall anything that Alastor had just done to you or that he now owned your soul to begin with.
After all, he certainly did not need Charlie to call Lucifer up if it ever did get out what he had put you through just to get you to speak again and to get you to sign your soul over to him.
Alastor had what he wanted and he would not let a little deadbeat ruin it.

THAT MOMENT YOU REALIZE ALASTOR IS ACTUALLY WAY SCARIER THAN WE GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR
So, in the throes of doing world-building for my Hazbin fics and analyzing characters and how they fit into Pentagram's political system, I realized not only how powerful Alastor actually is, but how fucking scary.
Now, yes, in the grand scheme of things, Alastor is far from the most powerful person in Hell. Far from it. The Royal Family (Lucifer, Lilith, and Charlie), and the Goetia are way above the Overlords. Our twinky, angsty, galaxy bird, Stolas, could 100% body Alastor. I'm sorry, Al. I love you, babe. But in terms of the hierarchal system, you and the other Overlords aren't influential to the rest of Hell, at all.
But, it's an entirely different story if we stick exclusively to the Pride Ring.
I'm not trying to do a big, essay-length analysis, that's a lot of work and I'm tired, so I'll try to make it as brief as possible.
We know three crucial things: 1) sinners aren't allowed to leave the Pride Ring, 2) they've built a semi-functional society for themselves that is exclusive to their specific ring (with a political system that they've molded just for them), and 3) sinners can't kill other sinners.
So, what we have here is a big piece of land stuffed with people who can't leave it, in a society they've built specifically for themselves, with an amassing population that is constantly growing because they have no way of dying/or killing each other. (Honestly, it's like Heaven was setting them up for an Exterminations - THOUGH I'VE ACTUALLY COME UP WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, COMPLETELY FANON BASED THEORY/WORLD BUILDING IDEA ABOUT HOW HELL HAD KEPT THE POPULATION DENSISTY CONTROLLED FOR THE MILLENIA OF COLLECTING HUMAN SOULS, HOW THE POPLUATION STILL GOT TOO LARGE AND THUS RESULTED IN THE EXTERMINATIONS, AND HOW IT WAS ROSIE WHO HAD A HUGE HAND IN IT ALL.
Anyway, back on topic, so the Overlords essentially control this Ring. We know Stolas lives in the Pride Ring (judging by the red sky we see when he's at his house), so its possible more Goetia live there too (and imps, and succubi; the Pride Ring is known for being the most diverse of the Rings), but we haven't seen any evidence of the Goetia, or any of the other Hellborn, interact or influencE Pentragram City in a political way--outside of the Goetia being above the Overlords in the hierarchal system). I headcanon that they do have some involvement in Pentagram City, as they do live there, but for the most part, the Pride Ring is left completely to the sinners and how they run things.
Lillith got involved, obviously (but she's been missing for years in the beginning of the show), Lucifer hasn't been involved for who knows how long, and Charlie obviously doesn't have a lot of sway, nor did she have any previous influence given how she's treated by the very people she rules over. Her status is known, but there's no actual respect for her or her title as the literal Princess of Hell.
The royal family may the the strongest beings in all of the 7 Rings, but outside of Lillith, it seems they had very little involvement (in Charlie's case) or interest (in Lucifer's case) in ingratiating themselves into Pentagram City.
The entire Ring is being run by the Overlords. They cannot leave it. The Pride Ring is their domain. This is their new home. This is their world.
And in this world, the Overlords are the top dogs.
So, Alastor is powerful just in the sense that he is one of the Overlords. Like them, he is essentially one of the rulers of their personal, caged-off little world. He has power and political sway. He joined the other Overlords for Carmilla's meeting, where they were going to discuss the aftermath of the Extermination and what they can do about the loss in the population (and thus, their power, given that owning souls is how they get it).
It's implied that this isn't the first time they've had meetings like this, and if they get together to discuss the best ways to recover from the Exterminations and make up for their mutual losses (literally working together when they could've all just been rivals trying to undermine the others to get more souls), who knows what else they've discussed in their efforts to keep Pentagram City running (especially considering that the best way to maintain their power IS by maintaining the city, it's people, and keeping it from falling apart at the seams. Taking care of the city is in their best interests - I use "taking care of" very, very loosely, considering this is still Hell and it's hardly the gold standard of utopia's). They're essentially a Board of Leadership with mutually shared power.
The Overlords have all the power. All the sway. In their established world, THEY are at the top of the food chain.
BUT then, you take into account that sinners can't kill each other (a rule that extends even to the Overlords), and that's when things get interesting.
In episode 4, "Masquerade" Valentino told Angel that he's "killed people for less" during the scene in the dressing room. But, in episode 2, after Valentino had torn apart one of Velvette's models, she wasn't upset in the way an Overlord would be if they lost someone under contract, especially considering that owning souls is what gives them power (and I assume that they own the souls of most, if not all, of the people they employ). She said that she can't sit and wait for "that bitch to pull herself back together," so, yeah, the implication is that sinners can literally be torn apart (even by the Overlords, who are the strongest among them) but won't die is immense. No matter what you do, a sinner will reform, or heal, or whatever, but they will come back.
So, consider, that there is only one person who's been able to kill sinners, permanently, and that person is Alastor.
Not only that, he killed Overlords.
In a realm where death is impossible, Alastor had cheated the system. And as far as we know, he's the only one who's been able to do it.
The only person I can think of who has something similar is Carmilla, but that's because she'd integrated angelic steel into her apparel. (Though, there's something to be said about her selling angelic weapons to the masses, as she is a manufacturer and distributor of them not only in Pentagram city, but all of the 7 Rings, (as Stryker had gotten his hands on a "Carmine blessing tipped rifle" to kill off Stolas, who's a Goetia), thus, sinners killing other sinners can still be possible, but that's only if they get you're hands on a weapon with angelic steel, or they're wealthy enough to buy onr, and I imagine Carmilla doesn't sell those cheap.
But Alastor didn't use angelic steel. He found a way to tear souls apart, where otherwise they were only able to be owned. Considering how terrified Husk (who is one of the most calm and collected people in the Hazbin crew; who had once been an Overlord, himself) was when AIastor threatened to do they same to him, like, that goes to show just how serious it is. He was literally full-body shaking. Ears-pinned back. Flight-fight-or freeze. Pressing himself down into the carpet.
We've never seen him like that at any other time during the show, even during the Extermination when they were all about to die.
Alastor's threat had scared him more than literally getting killed my an army of Exorcist's.
And like, yeah???? I get it????
That shit has to be terrifying. Not only for those that Alastor threatens, but for every single sinner in Pentagram City.
This random guy cheated the system, killed without any outside means, and if he can topple Overlords (the strongest and most powerful of them) almost over night, there's no saying what he can do to regular sinners. (Or what they think he can do, I have more thoughts surrounding whether Alastor would be able to tear apart a soul that is owned by someone else, but this is already getting long).
And, presumably, the only reason he stopped is because he decided to.
Like???? Do you guys understand what I'm saying???? For someone to have that kind of power??? In a system where that power SHOULD NOT be possible??? A power that gives him this massive advantage over everyone else???? That no one else can do???? And the only reason he doesn't use it is because he decides not to????
It's no wonder Alastor was so feared. Why he still is feared (by those who know of him at least LOL he has been gone for 7 years). And, like, yeah we see him be all creepy and scary during the show. We see him use his magic and grow into his demon form, and he is intimidating in that right, but I think the true horror of his character comes from this ability to kill the unkillable in a system where it never should've been possible in the first place.
That's where the true terror of the Radio Demon lies. That's where the visceral fear comes from. And it's why he's someone you wouldn't want to mess with, even for the other Overlords (especially for the other Overlords).
Like, it makes sense why he has such a massive ego. Why he thinks he can take on anyone. It's because he has. He's powerful, even by Overlord standards, and he knows it. And it makes further sense why him now being on a leash is making him unravel at the seams.
Am I making sense??? Is this all just meaningless rambling to you guys??? Idk! Idk. It's just been tumbling through my head, and it made me realize just how scary Alastor is, especially from an outside perspective.
I have SO many headcanons T.T I've done so much world-building, and I am have so much fucking fun. I feel like a kid in a sandbox. My brain hasn't stopped buzzing since this show came out.
Anyway, I'm off to outline more wips and work on the fics I'm writing. Happy Hazbin-ing to the rest of you.

Iâm going to say it.
I donât think How to Train Your Dragon 3 was good.
Not when you compare it to literally either of the other movies. Certainly not as a conclusion.
I mean, the first movie was about a boy who manages to understand a hostile dragon species and bring peace to two warring factions, which is a parallel for his relationship with his father. The second film was about how sometimes, peace has to be fought for, and Hiccupâs whole identity was in contrast with thatâbecause while his mother ran from conflict and his father leapt at it too eagerly, he had always been the one to stop the fighting. Then he has to learn that the things we love are worth protecting.Â
And after he learns that humans and dragons can learn to understand each other and coexistâafter he learns that it isnât enough to run and hide or fight out of fear, but instead you must protect the things you care aboutâ
After those two natural, powerful progressions are clearly worked for in the first two moviesâ
How to Train Your Dragon 3 comes along and says ââNo actually, sometimes all it takes is one madman whom you defeated with no loss of life to convince you that the things you care about should just crawl into a very pretty hiding hole, because you donât feel like spending the rest of your life fighting for them.â
And I can say more. Below the break.Â
Because Iâve waited a long time to talk about this. Everybody around me was saying that the third HTTYD movie was sooo good, how could I not love it, what was my problem, theyâre crying in the theater seats around me, theyâre all moved, but nobody can tell me why. What makes HTTYD3 so good, STORY WISE? What makes the fact that Toothless, who is established as âHiccupâs Other Halfâ and his characterâs support, leaving, a good conclusion?
And itâs not just that my feelings were hurt at the idea of this iconic duo being split up in the finale.Â
It just doesnât make any sense. Because the main thing that the whole series was built around was the adversity Hiccup and Toothless were always going to come up against, because they shouldnât be friends. The whole first movie is like âdragons and Vikings hate and kill each other, thereâs no way to get over this fear, nobody can be around Night Furies without dying,â and Hiccup and Toothless literally fly in the face of that. Then the whole second movie is âdragons either have to be left completely alone to themselves and their ways in the wild apart from man, or they have to be brutally enslaved as war machines under manâs bootâ and then Hiccup and Toothless fly in the face of that. They stick together as their own, unique partnership, and it changes the world in HTTYD and in HTTYD2.
And then in the third movie, boom, Toothless suddenly doesnât belong with Hiccup anymore? Suddenly itâs essential that he live completely separate, alone with âhis own kind?â Suddenly itâs too hard and too dangerous to protect this dragon-Viking way of life that the whole first and second movie worked for?
I mean. They even abandon Berk. They fought so hard for Berk throughout three television series and two excellent movies.Â
And I get it. The idea is that, they left Berk because Berk is a people, so no matter where they go Berk is still alive, just like no matter where Toothless goes, his friendship with Hiccup is âstill alive.â And thatâs a fine theme, I guess, except it totally makes the first two movies seem worthless. It makes Hiccupâs mom seem right for abandoning her family and giving up on the idea that humans and dragons could ever live peacefully. According to HTTYD3, Hiccup and Toothless never should have interacted again after he cut Toothless free of the net. Because Toothless shouldâve justâŚgone on to live with his own kind.
Oh except he couldnât, because Hiccup knocked his tail fin off and Toothless needed Hiccup. Just like Hiccup was weird and innovative in a time of traditional brutish Vikings, and he, in his own way needed Toothless. So they couldnât live among their own kind without one another.Â
And I see that HTTYD3 is trying to say ââyes, they needed each other, but now theyâve grown up and the only thing left to learn is how to let go and move on.â But you know what, if you were going to tell me that, you shouldnât have made the driving motivation for these characters to leave one another: âtoo many bad guys keep inevitably attacking us.â
You also shouldnât have made the secondary driving motivation: âToothless likes a pretty girl dragon and he canât be with her and be with Hiccup because sheâs Too Wild.â˘â Because guess what? The other thing that all of the previous canon content set up was that Hiccup can basically tame and befriend any wild dragon.
There are very few dragons, even in the TV show, that he cannot make friends with and live side-by-side with, and the ones that existed were basically just big, angry killing machines who presented themselves as way more threatening in mannerisms than the Light Fury does in the third movie. The Red Death eats other dragons; the Light Fury warns other dragons of traps. The Skrill tries to lightning-fry every human around it; the Light Fury only ever plasma blasts at humans that surprise her while sheâs actively snooping around their camp.
I am willing to buy a story where a dragon needs to be free of his human master if he wants to have a future with his own kind, but you canât do that if the dragon in the story is Toothless and the master in the story is Hiccup. Because those charactersâ relationship was established as the future of their kind. Vikingâs way forward was dragonsâdragonsâ way forward was Vikings.Â
And that brings up another bone of contention with meâthe first reason for the finale split-upâwhat made Grimmel so terrifying that it convinced Hiccup to uproot his whole tribe from their ancestral home and eventually give up on fighting for his dragon/Viking way of life, and Toothless himself? Was it that Grimmel was a better strategist than Hiccup? Because Grimmel lost and died, so thereâs no reason for that to remain the reason. Was it because Viggo had a whole army of people that were slapped together to hastily represent âthe rest of the worldâ and a bunch of dragonsâagain, DRAGONS, Hiccupâs specialtyâto attack them with? Because again, all of them lost. And Berk sacrificed nothing in the process, unless you count, likeâŚstress.
And DONâT give me any crap about the epilogue. Donât tell me ââOh, OP, you totally ignored the part at the end where Toothless and Hiccupâs new families visit each other, theyâre not gone forever, theyâre just Friends From Afar, living at peace, protecting the peace by staying apart.â
That is 1) a terrible cowardly step back from any emotional impact that the big goodbye and sense of sacrifice that living apart from each other should have given the audience, and 2) still doesnât negate the fact that Hiccup and Toothless WERE fighting for their way of life, which was living together, since movie 1, and the fact is whether they visit each other or not they still donât get to have that anymore. For no good reason. I could say more. I could talk about how silly I think a lot of the Light Fury plot is, how poorly set-up the Hidden World was as a conclusion piece, blah blah blah. But instead, Iâll just leave this quote from the end of How to Train Your Dragon 2, and you tell me how the logical conclusion to this quote was âletâs abandon our home and stuff our dragons in a hiding-hole because the enemies and armies that have never once actually defeated us are just too much hassle to keep fighting with.â
âThis is Berk. A bit trampled and busted and covered in ice, but it's home. It's our home. Those who attacked us, are relentless, and crazy. But those who stopped them, oh, even more so! We may be small in numbers, but we stand for something bigger than anything the world can pin against us. We are the voice of peace, and bit by bit, we will change this world. You see, we have something they don't. Oh, sure, they have armies, and they have armadas. But we... we have... OUR DRAGONS!"

OK!! some notes on episode 9 because I have a LOT to say
WHAT THE FUCK.
Ok first of all, I kinda loved this episode. The character dynamics between everyone was so good! Although I wish we got to see Jean and Storm talk about Madelyne and Nathan, because as far as I know she has no idea. I mean, surely they had to have a conversation about it, because why is there suddenly no baby in the house? But still.
I know we're supposed to be mad at Roberto Right now, but I just can't. It's obvious that he didn't really understand the extent of which going to war on magneto's side would entail. We can see that through the genuine feelings he was showing while fighting Jubilee. He didn't want to fight her, he regretted it the moment he started, but he didn't think that she would fight him back either. Roberto isn't exactly an X-men veteran, so I don't think he fully realized that he was in over his head. And Jubilee? Her heartbreaking "what about me?" FUCK. OH. MY HEART. Roberto really wasn't thinking about the full situation when he sided with Magnus.
The Jean and Cable fight has me heartbroken. Because we know from seeing the fight with Madelyne that sinister is just using Cableâs anger and polarizing it. And the fact that he doesn't see Jean as his mom, but Jean has all the memories from Madelyne? Hell she spoke about how she can remember the pregnancy and I'm sure she still has some feelings about Cable as a son. Also, I really fuckimg hope the ending of that scene doesn't mean she's dead (again) because to be honest I'd be really pissed off.
It was kinda sexy getting to see Cable's powers tho
And the fucking ending??? THE FUCKING ENDING??? FUCK. I really want to know what Rogue was thinking while watching a member of her family literally HAVE HIS BONES REMOVED. Is she still going to choose magneto after this? Is she going to place the blame on Logan for fighting in the first place? Imagine when storm finds out, after she had already expressed her emotions about permanent power loss. UGH.
I need to write some Logan fluff after this this is bulllshit.
-an added note, I kinda feel for the professor in this one. Hell yeah I'm mad at him, but the pain he's been going through kinda hits my heart. The scene where he wakes up, looks to the other side of his bed to find Lillandra obviously not there, and the difference between having the ability to walk and loosing it? :( and he really seems to be going through it emotionally. He was absolutely thinking only about the idealistic life he thought he was leaving his students but in the end he completely fucked it up. Sorry buddy, but maybe do that once the fight has been finished next time.

I love so deeply that Jinx accepting herself has made her stronger and funnily enough caused her to form a found family dynamic. What I also love, is Vi finally calling her by her sister's name. I know that everyone will take away their own perspective on Jinx's identity, but as a person with CPTSD and a lot of other mental illnesses - I see myself in her a lot. To me, when Vi pushes to call Jinx "Powder" all through the first season - it really felt like Vi refusing to acknowledge the trauma that Jinx had been through that shaped who she is today. For me, when I came out the other end of a lot of egregious things in my life - I was a completely different person and I had to mourn the loss of who I could have been had those things never happened to me. I also had people who expected me to act like the person I was before those events occurred, and I will say that very few things outside of that felt as demeaning and painful. - to not acknowledge who I am now meant ignoring how my trauma impacted me
Additionally, when I started to accept who I was NOW after everything, I became more confident, and started healing. Jinx embracing that she is a "jinx" still has some complications with the idea she believes she is a negative force in everyone's life, but it also has allowed her to live without constantly rejecting who she is. She has literally freed herself of her own expectation to be someone she isn't for other people, and of course I don't agree with her actions to the fullest, but it is empowering for me to see a character process their identity through and after trauma in a way I understand.

Chapter Warning: Blood, panic attack, baby loss.
Chapter Summary: The reader's world collides with her soulmates. Literally. And what's up with Sam.
âThank you so much.â
âYouâre welcome honey.â The cashier replied. Soul friends with the owner of the Airbnb you were staying in, the cashier and her husband were owners of the hardware store and had given you a hefty discount. Her husband appeared from the back of the store to let you know that the paint Annemarie had settled on after much debate would arrive on Monday and heâd personally deliver it.
Everyone seemed to know each other and although in the past you werenât sure small towns were your thing, there was something kind and heart-warming about Brook Town and how everyone looked out for each other. You felt your soulmate letters tingle and automatically rubbed at the long sleeved shirt you were wearing. The rumble of motorbikes brought a tightening to your chest.
âYou OK hun?â Asked the cashier, and you wondered then how accepting the town would be of a triad.
âErmmmm.â You replied unsure. You were tempted to ask the couple who now stood watching as you fidgeted and poked at your letters. You went to speak but changed your mind as the door opened and a redhead woman walked in. You couldnât help but notice how beautiful she was as she greeted the owners like old friends. You took the moment to slip away, not knowing that she turned towards you to say hello only to find you slipping through the door.
You were completely unaware that she wasnât far behind you.
A little further down the streetâŚâŚ.
âHowâs it feel?â Asked Clint.
âItchy.â Steve replied.
âOk so sheâs here somewhere. Did you feel it yesterday? When Buck saw her?â
âYeah, but he didnât say anything right away. I thought it was the shirt.â
âSo what we just wait here? Hope she walks past?â Bucky asked, his tone frustrated.
âNo, Natasha is going to dip in and out the stores to see if she can see her or the friend.â Clint confirmed. âWere you even paying attention?â
âIâm not one of your kids Clint.â Bucky snarked.
âThat didnât answer my question.â
âNo OK!!! Because I canât think straight! What if weâre wrong! What if itâs not her? What if she doesnât want us? What if she doesnât want me?â Bucky snapped, his voice full and busting with emotion.
âEasy bud. Take a breath.â Spoke Clint calmly.
âWe wonât know unless we speak to her.â Steve added.
âFine, but you can do the talking.â
âIs that a good idea? You know he canât talk to women.â Came a new voice, as Sam approached and joined the conversation.
âAny luck?â Asked Steve.
âWell, if Nat has the car details right sheâs parked near the pie shop.â Sam answered. Steve watched as Sam rubbed at his own soulmate letters but before he had chance to remark he felt his own arm grow warmer and the urge to scratch and rub at it became uncontrollable. He pulled at his jacket, trying to grant himself some relief. He stopped himself as he saw Buckyâs posture change from the corner of his eye. Changing from perching on his bike to straight and upright, the only other movement the rubbing of his chest.
âSteve?â His voice said, almost broken and he nudged his head forward.
Steve followed his line of sight and set his eyes on you. You were looking around a slight panicked look in your eyes. Your hands were full of DIY supplies and you had a bag across your body that Steve guessed was holding your keys, cash and whatever else girls carried around. You were wearing cut off jean shorts, a fitted tshirt with a scoop neck that had Steve eyes trailing to your cleavage. His eyes scanned back up as he took in the rest of your appearance. Your hair was pulled into a messy bun as wisps of it framed your face and fell around your sunglasses, and he found himself wondering what colour your eyes were.
He started gravitating towards you. Bucky went to follow but stopped himself. Clint discreetly pulled out his phone and started to record what he hoped would be a special moment and also knowing that his wife and soulmate, Laura, wouldnât want to miss this.
You continued to look around as Steve moved towards you. Glancing behind, you felt like you were being followed. Was it the biker from yesterday? Your arm burned and your chest grew tighter.
You heard a voice calling out a name and turned back only to hit something hard and warm. You fell backwards quickly and landed on the pavement. You hit your elbow and let out a yelp, your left side taking the brunt of the fall. There was quickly warm hands on you and a voice close to your ear.
âShit, Iâm sorry, Iâm so sorry.â
Warmth spread where his hands touched you and you felt the tightness in your chest ease. You were pulled to your feet.
âMy things?â You said confused, glancing down at your shopping bags sprawled out along the pavement.
âIâll grab them. Are you OK sweetie?â The redhead from earlier asked as she came into your line of sight, smiling softly at you.
âNo, sheâs not.â A new voice, gruff and annoyed. âYou absolute idiot Stevie.â
âYou distracted me jerk.â
âSo what? You canât watch where youâre damn going?â
âWalk her over here. Iâll get the kit.â Another voice.
You were guided towards a wooden bench and eased down. There was a rustling as the bags were placed beside you. The redhead appeared and knelt in front of you, placing her hand on yours.
âHey, are you OK?â
You opened your mouth to speak but nothing came out. She was quickly joined by someone else at her side.
âHey, Iâm Sam, is it OK if I take a look at you?â
âWhat?â
âCan I take a look at you?â
âYouâre bleeding sweetie.â The redhead again. What? You were bleeding? You couldnât think straight with your soulmate letters on fire. You looked down to see the side of your knee grazed and there was blood running down your finger tips. You went to move your elbow but it flashed with pain and you let out a hiss.
âCan I get you cleaned up?â
You nodded.
âSorry, Iâm not sure what happened.â You said.
âWell you see this big blonde idiot here?â The redhead pointed at one of the bikers who seemed to be bickering with his friend. You nodded. âWell he was distracted by the dark and brooding idiot and he walked into you.â
âI think I might have walked into him too.â You replied, recognising the brunette from the night before.
âWell, that might be my fault. I was following you, probably distracted you.â
So you were being followed.
âIâm not sure it was just that.â You replied looking at the blonde and brunette bikers, who were now being reprimanded by another. He looked a year or two older than them and had dark blonde hair.
âIâm just gonna pop a Band-Aid on your knee OK? Keep it clean.â
You nodded.
âThank you Sam. You did say your name was Sam right?â
âYeah, and this here is Natasha.â
âHi. Thanks for grabbing my things. Well, theyâre my friends. Sheâs having a baby.â
âIs that why you were at the hospital last night?â Natasha asked.
âHow do you know that?â
How long had she been following you? You honestly thought you were more observant than that.
âI was dropping off some donations for the childrenâs ward and saw you guys coming out.â
Your eyes narrowed at her in suspicion but before you had chance to answer your mind wandered to Ryan.
âShit.â
âAre you OK?â The blonde was now beside you.
âNo, sheâs not you damn punk.â
âMy friend. Heâll wonder where I am.â You pulled at your bag.
âHere. Let me help.â Natasha offered. You admitted defeat as your elbow stung again and let her pull your phone from your bag. She held it in front of you to unlock it.
âIs it Ryan? You have three missed calls from him.â
You nodded. You watched as she tapped at your phone. You heard Ryan pick up, yelling about you not answering. Natasha introduced herself and start to explain what had happened, as your attention was drawn back to Sam.
âIt might be best if we cut the sleeve baby girl. Itâs ripped on the elbow but not enough for me to clean it properly and get a dressing on it. You might even need a couple of stitches.â
There was a flurry of voices.
âShit. Iâm so sorry.â âFucking idiot.â âYouâre both idiots.â
âIgnore them. Is that OK? If I cut it?â
You nodded. Sam took the small scissors from the first aid kit that you now found heâd placed at your feet and started to cut slowly from the cuff of your sleeve and upwards. Feeling Steve edge closer a wave of panic spread through you as the burning of your arm grew worse. There was movement behind you and you became aware that Bucky was now standing behind the bench, watching Sam closely. You tilted your arm towards yourself, gritting your teeth at the sting of the open wound. You hoped to play it off as giving Sam more access to your elbow but the way he side eyed you, he knew what you were doing.
You felt your body get warmer at the blonde and brunettes presence. Is spontaneous combustion a thing? Were you going to be sick? Is it normal to feel like this? You started to feel woozy and you swayed a little. You started to see spots in the corners of your eyes.
âSweetie, drink this.â Natasha pushed a bottle of water towards you and helped you hold it when she noticed your hand shaking. âYou two back up now.â
âNot a chance.â âI want to be close to her.â
âYouâre overwhelming her guys back up, and donât huff at me. As someone whoâs experienced the first part of the soulmate bond snap into place I know what it feels like. You know what it feels like right now. Sheâs got it twice over. Take a step back before she passes out.â
âClintâs right. Her pulse is racing.â
âI donât like blood.â You whisper to Sam as you sway some more.
âOK baby girl. Iâm gonna put a dressing on it now but I think youâre gonna need a stitch or two. Then Iâll wipe all the blood off OK.â
âI need to go. My friend.â
âHeâs going to come find us.â Natasha reassured you, slipping your phone back into your bag.
Sam continued to work on the gash on your elbow and you found yourself staring past him at a spot on the floor. A dozen questions sped through your head and you started to spiral.
Would they want you? Are they ok with sharing? Do they have another soulmate too? Are they with her already? Or him? Could be a him? Are they together? How does it work? Donât ask Ryan that, heâll draw you another picture. Am I gonna be sick? I might be? Donât be sick on Sam. Ryan might like this Sam guy. I need to find Ry. I need to get the hospital. Annemarie. The baby. Blood. My baby.
âSweetheart, come back to us?â The blondeâs voice spoke softly to you.
âBaby girl, bloods nearly all gone.â
âLet me see Sam.â
âMaybe give her a minute.â
âSam.â
Sam seemed to move back a little and started to look around, distracted as you watched him starting to pull at the sleeve of his leather jacket and Natashaâs soft reassuring squeezing of your hand, you didnât notice Steve moving closer.
But you knew the moment he touched you. Warmth spread from where he held your wrist, his callous hands moving softly until his thumb carefully brushed over your letters.
âItâs you.â He whispered. He glanced up at you, his bright blue eyes sparkling with emotion.
A million questions ran through your mind as your letters burned, and you felt the brunette learn over the back of the bench, invading your space. Warmth spread where his body briefly touched yours. His need to see the letters for himself making him edge closer.
The blonde spoke again as he ran his thumb over your letters repeatedly.
âS.G.R. J.B.B. Steve Grant Rogers. James Buchanan Barnes.â
You felt the one behind you let out a shuddered breath.
âWhatâs your name sweetheart?â
You opened your mouth but nothing came out. You tried again but still nothing. Confusion and panic spread over you. Youâd found your soulmate. Soulmates. Both of them. In this little town. You glanced around to see the friend that had told them both off had his phone in his hand. Was he recording you? You looked around again and found Natasha still holding your other hand. Sam was now on his feet looking around himself. You scanned the people passing by and noticed a few had stopped to watch what was going on, nudging and pointing and certainly not discreet.
âI, erm, I donât know.â
The blonde frowned at you and before you knew what was happening or what you were doing you were on your feet, bags in hand and running.
Fancy a cuppa? My Ko-Fi.

iâm a big softie for ketheric bc heâs gone through so much and all he really wanted was to live happily with his family. sorry, if this sounds like itâs all over the place, iâve never done an ask this big and etc. i love your isekai!au so so much and literally just thought about what kinda dynamic ketheric/reader couldâve had especially if they came from a broken family and on the other hand we all know ketheric would fight all of faerun for his family.
i could totally see the reader become co dependent on ketheric, especially if their companions have still been little jerks throughout their journey so far.
lets say before coming into this world, the reader had a terrible relationship with her family and because of that they start to crave the father/daughter/son relationship they have with ketheric. obviously, the reader will be conflicted knowing HEâS ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE SHADOW CURSE AND ABSOLUTE. on the other side of the coin they see how much ketheric has lost throughout his life, losing your wife and then your only daughter is a hard thing to cope/deal with. heâs super understanding when the reader opens up to him about being from another world and doesnât dismiss their claims at all, which makes them feel very touched when still a handful of her companions treat them terribly because of these claims. plus, it doesnât help that when reader snoops through kethericâs room, they find kethericâs letters about his wife and deep down they know/think they can change him for the better. towards the end when their companions come to save them and the fight is happening, i can totally see reader begging ketheric to change and that they can start over, how his wife never wouldâve wanted this. or the reader basically confesses how theyâve never had a good father figure in their own world, confessing that he was physically and verbally abusive, they knew that theyâd never be good enough child for them but ketheric accepted all of her, good and bad, and treated her as a loving child. which was all they wanted from their dad, to be accepted and loved, which ketheric would be happy to give her.
we know ketheric feels like he canât be saved and because of that he will still fight us but during the second fight where reader tries to beg him again and he offs himself. imagine the reader is able to grab his hand before he completely falls in and ketheric is holding onto their hand, their grip on him is slowly slipping, all the while theyâre crying their eyes out begging him that they can save him and he can be rescued as well. only for him to smile back at them and telling them how much he truly cherished their father/daughter relationship in the short amount of time they did have together before completely letting go of her hand and falling into his own demise.
Please send in long ranty asks, I love them so much.
Anyway, this is kinda how I interpreted Kethrics and Readers relationship. I always like giving my readers some lore just to make them more interesting, so the idea of reader not really having a good relationship with their parents, specifically their father just is so sad and adorable.
I really want to explore readers relationship with the evil three because they're just so interesting, and Kethric is definitely the best villain of the game. By act 2, reader is so desperate for connection that I don't think it would take much for them to get close to Kethric. And since Kethric is already lamenting his loss of Isobel, he seeks connections as well. I think reader knows in the back of their head that Kethric is beyond saving, that he lost himself ages ago when Isobel died, but it doesn't mean that it hurts less when they have to fight him. I know in game, if you talk to Kethric about Isobel before entering into the mind flayer ship, it'll skip his first phase as he kills himself immediately. I imagine something like this happens, where reader begs Kethric not to fight, that perhaps if he hands over his Netherstone to them that Isobel might change her mind and return to him, but he knows that's not possible, it's very bitter sweet.
Again, please don't feel bad for ranty asks, they're literally my favorite thing ever.

What do you think the seven (plus Nico) would be the gods of if they ascended?
I've listed some of my ideas below, but I'd like to hear what other people think.
Nico - Shade
Both shadows and ghosts. People living on the edge of society, or on the run would fall in his domain as well. These living "ghosts" who don't have a place to belong are reminsecent of his own feelings of otherness. The literal ghosts who can't move on are reminscent of his own inability to move past Bianca's death.
Hazel - Sacrifice
Anyone who gives up something for another's gain. In a sense it could also be generosity, or even wealth. You may lose material wealth, but gain a richer life instead. People toiling for their family or someone taking taking pain on themselves to spare their friend would have Hazel's protection. She could have used her curse to her own benefit, but she took it onto herself to protect others. She could have saved her life, but chose to die instead. She could have gone to Elysium, but chose Asphodel to spare her mother. I think Hazel would want to protect people who are stuck in the same situations she was, who have to choose between justice and loss.
Jason - Duty
Jason's domain is anyone who is beholden to something other than their own desires. Lots of soldiers here, but also anyone in a position of leadership. The sacrifice of personal freedom and happiness for other's sake.
Frank - Will
Your will can change at anytime, but without resolve it lacks power. Frank is easily changed, but most empowered when he stands firm. No matter what happens to you or others you must have determination to succeed. Those who worry they may falter can pray to Frank for the strength to continue.
Percy - Devotion
Complete dedication to a cause or a person. Not just loyalty, but the desire to live for another or for an ideal. Includes the will to protect, to survive, and also to prove the value of what you fight for.
I couldn't think of things for Leo, Piper, Annabeth. Let me know what you think!

I am SO fascinated to get your take on BH's reaction to Ludinus and Downfall.
*****SPOILERS FOR 102 BELOW*****
As someone who left Downfall with a very negative view of the gods, it's interesting to me that BHs (in particular Imogen) kept saying "but you're just like them" about Ludinus and then not realizing that she was saying that the gods are no better than Ludinus fucking Da'Leth. Yeah, Luda is a hyprocrite. Do you realize that the gods are no better? The GODS.
And BHs comparing themselves to the primes/betrayers as this "fucked-up family" completely ignores the power differential. "They're just little guys! We all make mistakes" but you're saying that about entities that can literally sling 9th levels every 6 seconds without using any resources.
Nothing that can feel and be motivated by loss, rage, fear, and revenge should have that much power. Respectfully.
Sorry this took me so long to answer! Iâve been letting my own thoughts simmer and rewatching the episode in pieces to grasp the Many Many different things that happened on my own because it was Quite A Lot and some of it (the delilah of it all, funnily enough) left me immediately with an overall sense of disappointment that I wanted to sift through before talking Thoughts so that I could determine analysis from bias lol. BUT. I DO HAVE THOUGHTS
Long answer under the read more, but tldr: Apart from Orym, Ashton, and Dorian (simultaneously the most and least surprising!) I donât think weâve gotten the full breadth of BHâs opinions at all. In part because this a topic of discussion that requires them actually, well, discussing it to form fully rounded opinions on but also, crucially, because they were expressing opinions and emotions in front of Ludinus. This is important, because Orym/Ashton/Dorian make the most sense to have no reason for holding their true thoughts back in front of either him or the party (obviously in Orym and Ashtonâs case, but Iâll be honest in not considering what is now obviousâDorian has no idea who this guy actually is! Of course he wasnât opposed to raising his perspective!), whereas other charactersânamely Imogenâhave many more internal steps and hurdles to actually reaching a conclusion that must happen outside of Ludinusâ eye.
Alright. Long version.
I think it truly speaks to the characters that the ones who reacted the most immediately decisive were Orymâthe one whose opinions wouldnât have changed regardless of what was held within that orb (which. sigh)âAshtonâthe punk, anti-authoritarian character who has had an established perspective of the gods and their power for quite some time, perspectives that were in many ways cemented in viewing this piece of history rather than dispelledâand Dorianâsomeone who, as mentioned earlier, has the least amount of context for who Ludinus is, but who also himself was raised in a comparatively high position of social power so as to understand exactly what Ludinus is saying about the godsâ misusing theirs.
And, of course, Imogen. Iâll admit: I was immediately shocked at her response, but in hindsight of course she responded the way she did. I have talked and gushed and wailed before at how deeply empathetic Imogen is, and how it is also her ultimate fatal flaw (demonstrated explicitly here), so of course her first thought was how she saw the feelings and motives behind the decisions made in downfall and not how it was also an extreme over-reach of power and influence. Of course she did. I think the only person sheâs incapable of empathizing with is Delilah lmao.
And to that point: A lot of that seemed, on a rewatch and to me, posturing on her part. So much of Imogen is defined by her guilt and shame and self-loathing and its especially prevalent when she is playing leaderâa role she is naturally very good at, but doubts constantly because she does not consider herself âgoodâ. So, often, she does what she thinks others perceive as âgoodâ and ârightâ and keeps her more complex thoughts to herself until she is in a safe space (often with Laudna), and projects who she thinks others need her to be in the moment.
Laudna, in the same vein, also shocked me that she didnât push the breach of power here. But, again, she is also right next to Imogen in âbells hells characters most driven by/capable of empathyâ (though hers is, unlike Imogenâs, often in conflict with her desires in really compelling ways) so on further reflectionâand especially taking into consideration the massive amount of shame she is feeling from swordgateâof course she focused on the empathetic side of it all.
Ultimately we didnât get much time at all for them to actually discuss and dissect their take-aways on all of downfall in a setting and context that would be free of bias and performance. If iâm honest, I think those conversations need to happen individually instead of in a group, though maybe Dorianâs inclusion and obvious clear decision on his stance being more in line with Ludinusâ may just be enough for Orym alone not to break the conversational thread again with his personal grief (and guilt, but thatâs another post lol). I think their real opinions have yet to solidify even for themselves, and weâll see them truly form in the coming episodes. The Delilah of it all notwithstanding.
Speaking of Orymâs refusal to think about anythingâI think he and Imogen both are suffering from Predathos tunnel vision. Honestly Iâd argue a good portion of fandom is as well. None of that conversation is ultimately about Predathos, it was about the gods and the role they play and the power they use or over-use or deserve. By focusing so intently on what we all already agree is the wrong and bad solution to this problem, we ignore the problem entirely. Itâs one of my main issues with Orymâs stance this whole campaign. If we donât ask what is to be done with the gods, and the campaign just wraps up with âwe defeated the bad guys, yay!â well. What of the ruidusborn, who we know are treated unfairly and unkindly and who suffer through no fault of their own. What of the young vanguard membersâthe kidsâwho, also, are only guilty of caving to the idea of peace. What of Aeor, what of Ludinusâwhat of the cycle that birthed them both. To not engage with the questions being asked for hyperfixating on the Predathos of it all is to leave this campaign, in my opinion, on both a deeply unsatisfying but also deeply hopeless note. The cycle will continue. We may not see itâit may be another thousand, two thousand years before another Ludinus risesâbut another Ludinus or Aeor or both will rise, because ultimately no change will have been implemented in the problems which resulted in them.
Andâfinal note, promiseâI was talking to a friend about this yesterday but when it comes down to acknowledging the societal implications of downfall, especially in Imogenâs case, I do think itâs going to have to be pointed out first. A lot of Bells Hells are characters who have suffered at the very hands they are trying to save, but also suffered in part and specifically due to a lack of access to knowledge about it all. It does not escape me that the very first scene of campaign three is Imogen attempting to gather knowledge on powers that have made her miserable for a decade and being unable to access them in a library due to her station. That is, to me, more and more becoming the underpinning theme of this campaignâespecially as all Ludinus is doing in this moment with the Occultus Thalamus is displaying it; again, obviously Ludinus is wrong in his means (and arrogant in his assumptions that just because of his failures that no one else could find a solution) but this, specifically, the spreading of knowledgeâthat, I 100% find myself in agreeance with. So itâs not that they wonât understand what characters like Ashton and Dorian, both hyperaware of the implications of power here, are or will be saying. Itâs that they literally do not know to think about it like that. Why would they. It has been intentionally kept from them.
Anyway I have no idea if that was uh. Sufficient Enough of an answer adksfjd at some point I just started yapping but! Iâm intrigued, especially because of Dorianâs adamant belief, in what conclusions theyâll draw moving forward as the discussions truly begin! Hopefully! Hopefully they will discuss it!
#imogen temult#ashton greymoore#critical role#critical role spoilers#bells hells#ludinus da'leth#laudna#i could make a whole post on ashton and imogen and how they are both punks#and the difference between angry big city punk and the knowledge and perspective of constantly seeing abuses of power#vs the sad small town punk whose perspective was solely isolation and ostracization rather than having the means to witness systemic abuse#in quite the same way#and uh. the orym of it all. yeah i could talk about the orym of it alll for quite a while lol#anyway. back to tempering my expectations for the delilah of it all đ

Alright. I said I would write this and Iâm gonna stay true to my word.
Iâve been seeing a lot of takes since The Giggle has come out questioning the potency of 14âs ending. People have been citing multiple different times during the reboot era where the Doctor has âsettled downâ somewhere, from Darillium, the university in S10, to even Trenzalore. However, I think all of these comparisons are apples to oranges, completely missing the details of each instance and how The Giggleâs ending rebukes all of them.Â
So, because I cannot leave an inaccurate take alone, Iâm going through every single one of these instances and explain why 14âs ending is different from them, in chronological order.
Iâm gonna start with a weird one: S7EP4, The Power of Three. Because it provides a good example of all the things weâre going to be talking about.Â
Prior to this episode, long time fans already had a good idea that the DoctorâŚdoes not do well in monotonous environments, a truth that is consistent across multiple incarnations.
âI donât do families.â
âStreet corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. Iâve never had a life like that.â
âHere you are, Living a life, day after day. The one adventure I could never have.â
âChristmas dinner.â âI donât do that sort of thing.â
âOh god I had a terrible nightmare about you two!â [Talking about Amy and Rory having a normal life in Leadworth]
The entirety of The Lodger
âThereâs a bigger, scarier adventure waiting for you in there.â
The Power of Three, spells this truth out in bold, montage style marker pen. The Doctor âneeds to be busyâ. Why, as Amy later asks?
Personally I think this answer varies slightly between regenerations, based on experiences and losses each face goes through. 9 couldnât imagine a life of peace coming out of a war, a war that he had a major hand in. 10 continues that idea, with the added baggage of losing Rose. 11âs reasoning is a bit subtler: he says to Amy that he is running to things before they go, as if he now understands how short beautiful things last. Heâs going from one thing to the next in avoidance of staying to watch things die.Â
âAnd whatâs the alternative? Me standing over your grave?â
This doesnât change by the end of the episode. The Doctor explicitly tells the Ponds that heâs only staying to watch the cubes, and once the threat is gone, heâs already out the door. He only stops because of a potential threat, an idea we will return to in the next example. He even accepts the idea of Amy and Rory wanting to stay behind: âthings to do. Worlds to save. Swings to swing on. Look, I know. You both have lives here. beautiful, messy lives. That is what makes you so fabulously human. You donât want to give them up. I understand.â The Doctor is saying, âI know you have lives here, and that I canât always be a part of that. And thatâs ok.âÂ
This episode in my opinion is a perfect microcosm of The Doctor regarding this topic, spelling out explicitly why The Doctor can't ever settle down. The Doctor needs to have something to run to because they don't feel secure enough in any place to not allow their altruism outweigh their need to process their trauma. The only thing that could motivate the Doctor to stop, even just for a second, is the promise that their friend(s) will be there too. The next example is the worst-case scenario of this issue.
Trenzalore is an interesting case. When I first heard of it being counted, I immediately shut it down, because Trenzalore was a literal war zone (wars are obviously not a good place for mental health time). But in doing research, there is actually way more baggage contained in this period making it unsuitable for this argument than just that fact.Â
Trenzalore was set up to be the Doctorâs final resting place, where they would truly die. It wasnât the first time a death prophecy had surrounded the Time Lord, and once again, just as with The End of Time, the thing that kills them is, what Davros would later call The Doctor's âgreatest indulgenceâ: compassion. Tasha Leem warns 11 that she will burn the planet upon the possibility of the Time Lords returning, a warning the Doctor takes extremely seriously.
âThis planet is protected.â
âChristmas has a new sheriff.â
For 300 years, 11 stayed true to his word. He fought long and hard, for the townspeople and his own. He was celebrated and was loved. But Clara returning with the TARDIS revealed how he really felt about all of it.Â
âEveryone gets stuck somewhere eventually.â
âBut you didnât have your TARDIS.â âWell, that made it easier to stay.âÂ
Thereâs an unspoken sentiment in these words, echoing 11's philosophy in Power of Three: the Doctor will always want to leave, in this case, to understandably avoid his prophesied death. But he doesnât, because âEvery life I save is a victoryâ. Their compulsion to help, their innate capacity to help those in need. So often itâs been their greatest strength, but here itâs framed as destructive selflessness. 11 has become so wholly committed to helping others before himself that heâs willing to accept his own death.Â
Clara correctly calls this out: âWhat about your life? Just for once, After all this time, have you not earned the right to think about that?â The Doctor didnât stay on Trenzalore for himself, he stayed for everyone besides himself. Itâs only because Clara gave the Time Lords a proper verbal smackdown that the Doctor managed to survive. Had they not intervened, The Doctor would've suffered and died, once again to protect them, despite already saving them from annihilation in the previous episode, Day of The Doctor. Trenzalore wasn't The Doctor stopping, it was a century-long effort to keep satiating the bottomless survivor's guilt they still carried from The Time War.
Darillium is yet another case of looking like a time the Doctor settled down somewhere on the surface. But the details donât match that conclusion. The entire thesis of 12 and Riverâs final conversation was about the fleeting nature of their situation.Â
âTimes end, River, because they have to. Because thereâs no such thing as happily ever after. Itâs just a lie we tell ourselves because the truth is so hard.â
The Doctor says this, cries at hearing the Singing Towers, despite already knowing they have 24 years in a night. Because he knows it canât last. Thereâs already a deadline on their moment of peace before itâs begun. Eventually River must go to The Library.Â
The final quote of the episode punctuates this: âAnd they lived happily ever after.â Fading away until âhappilyâ remains. Because they didnât have their âever afterâ and they didnât âliveâ, because a person canât entirely experience life to the fullest with a clock hanging over their head.Â
While they got their moment of happiness, it was only a moment. 24 years is just a blink of an eye for a Time Lord, and sure enough, we see by the end of âThe Return of Doctor Mysterioâ, the next chronological episode, 12 is ready to leap back into the fray. Still the same overall Doctor he was before.
The University is an extension of this. We find out that the only reason he has stayed is to guard Missy in the vault. When 12 tries to mindwipe Bill (an eerie parallel to both Donna and Clara), he directly says: âI have no choice, Iâm in disguise. I have promises to keep.â Just like with Trenzalore, The Doctorâs altruism has trapped him somewhere he doesnât actually want to be. The second he hesitates, he immediately runs after Bill, inviting her into the TARDIS and sneaks off to the universe behind Nardoleâs back.
So, now that weâve gone through each past instance, whatâs the connection? Whatâs the key issue(s) that prevented the Doctor from permanently stopping in any of these cases?
The (fear of) loss of their friends, and the Doctorâs own self-loathing. Either out of fear of the march of time, or the chains that their altruistic nature binds them to, The Doctor always runs away from the picket fence life.
Now, letâs look at 14 and how this ending departs from all other examples.
Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle more prominently explains 14âs origins as a coping mechanism. The reason why 10âs face came back was to retreat to an incarnation that didnât invoke the loss of The Ponds, Clara, and Bill. The second destruction of Gallifrey and the reveal of The Timeless Child. The Doctorâs avoidance of their trauma has now been made physical, just like how mental stress can often manifest as physical changes or ailments.Â
âWe stand here now, on the edge of creation, a creation that I devastated, so yes I keep running, of course I keep running!! How am I supposed to look back on that?!â
Already this is a departure from the instances weâve discussed, because by the very nature of having 10âs face again, itâs forcing the Doctor to ask why.Â
âItâs like I'm trying to tell myself something. Like Iâm trying to make a point.â
But 14 chooses not to answer it, because answering it means accepting the truth: itâs too much. The trauma canât be avoided anymore, because The Doctor would always be reminded of what theyâre trying to avoid by looking in a reflection. 14 telling Shirley, âI donât know who I am anymore.â Then asking Donna, âwhat am I? What am I now?â Itâs not because heâs been given a blank slate and doesnât know what to do with it, like other regeneration stories. In trying to run away again, to bury the trauma and pain, The Doctor has made it more visible than ever, and doesnât know what to do with that.Â
Ironically, the Toymaker causing the bi-generation was the greatest gift he couldâve given the Doctor, because 15 was exactly who 14 needed to see. Heâs happy, energetic, full of life and wonder, but also empathetic, understanding and open. Heâs the only other person in the entire universe who The Doctor will listen to (well, one person, weâll get to the other later), because he knows all of the trauma they went through, and yet, made it through ok.
âBut youâre fine.â
âIâm fine, because you fix yourself.â
15 is leading by example, their own âghost of Christmas futureâ but positive. 14 now has an ideal self to strive towards, a face born from love and empathy. 14 doesnât have to ground herself out of moral obligation, 15 will now protect the universe.Â
But that leaves one question: why Donna? Out of all of the people to settle down with, why her? Thatâs easy: because she gets it.Â
Donna, out of all of the companions the Doctor traveled with, understood the soul behind the legend, because she recognized someone fundamentally similar to herself. One of Donnaâs signature character flaws is her horrendously low self esteem: âIâm nothing special.â no one ever listened to her (thanks Sylvia, for at least cleaning up your act later), so she covered up the silence with noise. She held onto whatever indisputable moments of genius she had to drown out the cacophony of voices shutting her up. Wild Blue Yonder explained this perfectly: Donna believes she is both brilliant and stupid at the same time.Â
She lives in two contradictory self images at once, and so does The Doctor. The genius and the idiot. The universeâs most fascinating person, and the person who would easily throw away their life for the betterment of others. Sheâs seen their blinding arrogance/rage (the Racnoss, Jenny) and their crippling self doubt/loneliness, and always met both with empathy and kindness.Â
âDoctor! You can stop now!â
âCause sometimes I think you need someone to stop you.âÂ
âIt wonât stay like that. Sheâll help you. We both will.âÂ
âIs âalrightâ special Time Lord code for âreally not alrightâ at all?â âWhy?â âCause Iâm alright too.â
Donna shouldered the burden of destroying Pompeii, she silently hugged 10 after coming back from Midnight. All because she knew what all of that would feel like in her own life. She didnât need to know the history of The Doctor and Davros, because she saw her best friend afraid and knew he would want comfort, because she would too.
Even if Dalek Caan manipulated the timelines to get Donna to him, That friendship was completely real to both of them. We saw what Donna was like without the Doctor in Forest of the Dead and Turn Left, and she always felt some level of unhappiness. 15 years removed from them and she still felt as if something was missing. In every future/reality, she always wanted them there. Same for the Doctor too. Within only a few episodes of losing her, 10 started to fall into becoming the âtime lord victoriousâ. 12 looks the way he does because of Donnaâs plea to adhere to his name, and save people. Even before 14 came into existence, the Doctor was willing to tell other people how important she was to them, on account of River recognizing Donna by her name: âyouâre Donna, Donna Noble.â
Donna didnât just travel with the Doctor and she wasnât just friends with them. She completely understood them, their soulmate. Two halves of a greater whole, The DoctorDonna. 14 stayed because there was a more stable incarnation to take his place, and because his best friend would be there alongside him, helping and supporting him through and through. The Doctor stayed because, for the first time in their life, they felt safe. In where they would be staying, and what they would be leaving behind.Â
That's why 15 doubling the TARDIS was so significant. In giving 14 her own TARDIS, 15 is allowing his younger self to have what they always removed from the equation: free will. The Doctor can still go anywhere they want, which makes them even more motivated to stay and fix themself. 14 can feel safe staying with Donna, Wilf, Mel, Rose, Shaun, and Sylvia because the option to travel is still there.
And the truly amazing part of all of this is that the TARDIS knew it from the beginning. Was it a coincidence that very soon after 13 regenerated into 14, the TARDIS landed close to where Donna and Rose would be shopping?Â
âYou didnât always take me where I wanted to go.â âNo, but I always took you where you needed to go.â
The TARDIS brought the Doctor home, and this time, they stayed. Because it was a place where they wanted and needed to be.Â

I had this idea to make a list of all the games I played in 2022, half as a recommendation list, and half because I struggle to remember when I played what. I have a really bad time ranking stuff, so I'll just list them chronologically (or, as chronologically as I can remember).
Note: Sometimes I dont have a lot to say about a game, but that doesnt mean I didn't like it or that it isn't good.
So, with that being said:
1) Our Life: Beginnings and Always
This game has put visual novels on another level entirely. How must I go on knowing that I will never be treated like royalty by any other game like this did. Our Life tells the story of your friendship and/or romance with Cove Holden, your new neighbor. This Visual Novel remembers an insane amount of stuff you choose, and it can put you in the state of mentioning something you did as a kid that you completely forgot about. I actually really liked how you can go the entire game as just friends, or choose when your character develops romantic feelings. I cannot overstate how well made this entire thing is. Can't wait to play the DLCs and for the sequel to be released.
Absolute recommend.
2) Iron Lung
If you have a computer, you can play it. It is not an option.
Claustrophobic above all, this game captures the pure dread of the unknown, building tension and atmosphere as you travel through this unknown planet's red sea. Highly recommended.
3) An Outcry
Amazing game that I don't see enough people talking about. The first game that made me actually physically ill while playing an alternative route. I don't know what hit me the most, the subject matter or the type of person I played in that route, a person I know exists and maybe I've met, a person I hope I never become. I knew what the game was specifically referencing, but I found it good that it was able to trigger that response on someone who lives in an entirely different place, with different historical events, but with enough similarities that made the feeling of dread and disgust that much real. Its message is clear and loud as it should be, and one that I think maybe now more than ever needs to be heard. I cannot recommend this game enough.
4) Stillwater
Now this is a Visual Novel that I really liked and would have loved for it to be longer, but I love it as it is. It left me wanting more about the world and its characters, and I think that's a good thing. It feels unfair that this is the one I typed the least about, knowing how much I liked it. It's really worth the read/play.
5) The Caribbean Sail
Have you ever wanted to be a sailor or a pirate? Have you ever wanted to grab a ship, sail into unknown destinations, encounter supernatural phenomenons and watch as your fellow crew members die of disentry five seconds after leaving your first port? Because if so, I have the perfect game for you. It's inspired by the Oregon Trail game, and that's literally what the gameplay is like, except on the sea. Which was enough of a selling point for me.
6) Carrion
My child, it has every disease. Loved the concept when I saw the trailer, forgot I can actually buy games now, and then proceeded to do that. Being able to live my fantasies of being a flesh creature that destroys and eats everything in its path was a delight. The creature is my child and I love it very much.
We need more games that let you play as the monster, I'm serious.
7) The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante
This game is both my beloved and the thorn on my side. Who would have thought that in a game like this you would proceed to suffer through life? I said to myself as if I hadn't known what I was getting into. You'll experience loss, you'll struggle to make a name for yourself, your family will fall apart, and you may never kiss your best friend Tommas who gave you a totally platonic ring to commemorate your friendship because the game doesn't want you to.
Or you'll have a different experience than me on my first playthrough.
You follow the titular Sir Brante from the moment of his birth to his last breath, exploring the world he lives in, full of injustices that at times made me go "I do not care about the lots, give me a fucking gun so I can take you to the fucking Twins". There are many branches regarding life paths, the fate of your family and that of the entire city you live in. But don't worry about it now, keep looking at those toy soldiers at the store as a little kid, I'm sure nothing will happen in the future.
8) Princess Maker 2 Refine
And apparently I didn't get enough of walking a kid through life.
Who looks at a game about raising a little girl by managing her monthly schedule and balancing her stats, health and money and says "yes, this is the game I'll play to destress"?
I do that. Don't ask why.
I have only reached two endings, in one my beautiful daughter became the royal painter, her art held as the most beautiful and inspiring in the entire world. In another, my girl made a name for herself by exploring the lands surrounding the kingdom, so fast on her feet nobody could even scratch her; she married a dragon prince and became the teacher of her own fighting school.
And even with all of that, her goddess mother was not happy.
So yes, this is the "divorced dad who got custody" experience.
9) Planescape: Torment
What can change the nature of a man? That is a question posed by one Ravel Puzzlewell, night hag of the Gray Wastes. It is one of the many questions that this game asks, intertwined by the many philosophies it presents. Planescape Torment does not stick to one question, it asks many, and it lets you answer.
It is a beautifully written game, one of the best I have ever read. There is one moment that I do not wish to spoil, but it still sticks to my head months after I experienced it. As a writer, I found myself fascinated by how a certain event was told, all because of the way it was presented.
It feels like an injustice to not talk in length about Planescape: Torment, but I seriously don't want to spoil anyone who hasn't played it yet. A blind experience is fully worth it. All you need to know is that this is the game that made me post for the first time here, two dumb memes for myself and one short analysis that sometimes reminds me that yes, people can interact with it. Shameless link to it here
10) Growing my Grandpa!
If I had to describe this game without saying too much, I would say it's "heartwarming horror". Two words that don't usually go together, but that they perfectly fit here. The story is, like the title says, about growing your grandpa, more like helping a girl grow her grandpa, but still. Strangely sweet and unnerving, I was tense the entire time, and even when I had to replay it to get the second ending (this was entirely my fault, since I could have gotten it way easier) that tension never left.
11) FAITH: The Unholy Trinity
I don't remember how I found out about this game, but I remember waiting patiently for it to get a steam release so I could buy it and play its three chapters all together. The day finally came, and all that waiting was worth it.
The gameplay is simple, yet the developers found a way to have me both crying in fear and frothing by the mouth out of anger every time I saw the game over screen (affectionately). In terms of difficulty, I would say the game is easy until it isn't, looking at you Chapter 2 and 3 Final Bosses, you bastards. Then again, I saw people say they struggled in places I didn't, so I would say it depends on the player.
The story is so interesting and it's still marinating in my brain please I need people to talk about how the prologue of chapter 2 and the one note in chapter 3 relate please. The cutscenes are also so well done, and I had to restrain myself from using one as a second picture because I didn't want to spoil any of them.
All in all, a must play, fully recommend it.
And remember:
GARY LOVES YOU
12) Inmortal Mantis
This is a tricky one. On one hand, the game starts off by basically spelling out every action you have to do, and suddenly it goes full on "fuck around and find out" mode. On the other, the game implements some interesting mechanics that I would love to see developed on a longer game, but I am not going to put the length against it while knowing how hard it is to make a game. And maybe being short plays in its favor.
13) Who's Lila?
This game is my King in Yellow. I cannot stop thinking about it. I finished it with all endings and achievements in a day, and it wont leave me alone. It is always there, forever crawling at the back of my head, stretching itself over my brain and weaving my thoughts into a spiral as easily as a spider weaves its thread. It made itself a home in my mind and I won't kick it out any time soon. I played it because the concept of controlling a character's face in place of a dialogue wheel was interesting, and the story and the way it's presented (hand in hand with the gameplay) lured me deeper and deeper. I cannot even describe it without giving it the praise it deserves. It takes full advantage of its medium. Playing this game is an experience that I can't recommend enough, and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves.
14) Someone stole MY LUNCH!
This visual novel is pure fun. The humor is so good I found myself reading the entire thing out loud while wheezing. I actually found out recently that it's made by the same people that made Stillwater, which, looking at it now I should have known. It's good and I'm not still over not seeing that one joke coming; well played.
15) MILK INSIDE OF A BAG OF MILK INSIDE OF A BAG OF MILK INSIDE OF A BAG OF MILK INSIDE OF A BAG OF-
... INSIDE A BAG OF MILK is a short visual novel about a girl going to the grocery to buy milk, and the challenge this seemingly small action can be. It is your responsibility to help her through this.
The steam page description perfectly summarizes it: "This is an artistic manipulation with word and form, only then - a game."

I *do* wanna ask you dmtnt questions so bad please tell me everything about how you would make it a good movie
like in general? I think it should have leaned more into the horror vibes they were gunning for in the trailer like at the very least make an attempt to have it stick out somewhat against the other movies. you could even have it end on them failing to get the trident or whatever if you wanna go for a darker tone like yeah it would render everything kind of pointless but it'd at least be interesting + you could hammer in that theme of destiny that's present in awe wrt will like he is doomed to be on that ship that will never change etc. have also said this before but will should have gotten to go full monster I think ideally at the beginning of the movie when henry takes his dive or whatever he should have fully died and will taking him back to shore should have counted as a breach of contract so he gets to be fish now. that could give henry a lot more angst as well like if he's not just trying to find the trident but also on some level like. running away from home so he won't have to face elizabeth after he basically caused will to get extra cursed. I also think they could have done a lot more with carina than just smartgirl like me personally I like to characterise her as kind of ruthless like not necessarily actively causing harm but willing to step over a lot of ppl to get what she wants. like she's grown up completely isolated and ostracised to me it would make sense if she's not great with people. could also have some tension between her and henry with carina being abandoned and henry just sort of throwing his perfectly good family away (at least in carina's eyes). as for jack, disregarding the fucking elephant in the room, in terms of scripting you could really hammer home the idea that he's totally given up like on life on everything etc. like him giving away the compass is fucking stupid but if you play it less as just plot go forward and more as jack letting go of the thing that's always been his main tool for getting what he wants, showing his complete loss of drive and whatever you could at least get something out of that plotline. could also get some dark comedy out of him being like. not actively suicidal but kind of just ready to die. if you played your cards right you could point to how he knows the afterlife is in more capable hands with will to the reason why, beyond him just being miserable on land. also like I said dark comedy you could have him literally doing gallows humour etc
n ee way these are just like ideas from my twisted mind tbh I also think for dmtnt to truly work you'd have to have laid better groundwork for it with ost like I think a cool thing to do in general would be to have like. the og trilogy and the new era of potc be really distinct thematically like og trilogy focuses a lot on class and ost has this wonderful potential core of religious struggles and like in a perfect world we'd have some thematic throughline to dmtnt but alas we live on hell planet so we have fucking. that instead đ
