I have finally drawn the main NPC for my campaign that I'm doing! :D We are having our Session 0 next week and I'm so excited to introduce him to my players! He has burns along his face neck and back from a battle long ago. Some way to long backstory under the cut:

He grew up a magic scholar but was drafted into the army when a Dark Lord rose and tried to take over the continent. He had a knack for creating powerful war machines and quickly became known as a one man battalion. He was chosen to fight alongside a party of heroes to sneak into the dark lord's castle and defeat him.

While traveling, he and the Hero Aberith (The hero the city my campaign is based in, Aberstwyth, is named after) fell in love. During the battle, the dark lord left him with burns across all his back and some of his neck and face. Aberith died defeating the dark lord and used an item in her dying breath that they got off the Dark Lord to give Kieran a very long lifespan (even for a dnd elf) and heal him.

He spent a lot of time basically depressed because the love of his life died but he couldn't join her because her last action was making sure he lived. He came to hate the blood he spilled and returned to his academic roots, discovering old magics and making new non-murderous contraptions.

He always stayed near Aberstwyth in honor of Aberith's memory and for 1000 years he lived a wanderer until he found a young child named Xullayne who he grew close to and adopted as his daughter.

The campaign starts here, with them living in Aberstwyth and Kieran sending letters to the party of friends he'd made on his travels asking for their help, both because he knows he's in a dangerous situation, and because he will do anything, even revoke his vow to never kill again, to protect Xullayne.

There's more smaller details, but this is the overview :D

It's okay and totally normal to be frustrated but try not to direct that at yourself! Easier said than done I know, but don't give up! Sometimes it takes me a whole page of drawings or dozens of revisions to get the facial expression I want. Here's a few ways I've personally approached it:

I posted this a while back but these excerpts from "Making Comics" by Scott McCloud really help me with facial expression exercises! Combining different emotions to convey someone's thoughts is really fun! And reference everything you can too- If there's a cool clip of a fight scene you really like, try drawing those characters' expressions!

And if all else fails, sometimes I find myself making the face that I'm trying to draw so I keep a mirror at my art desk to reference my eyebrows and mouth positions and stuff hahaha! It gets to the point that when I'm drawing a character that's upset or crying I'll sometimes start accidentally tearing up with them. It's an awkward conversation to have when my coworkers walk in on me during my lunch break and get concerned, and I have to be like "No sorry, I'm just feeling this fictional penguin drawing's emotions with him."

But yes!! I am not a professional, but I am a big advocate for having fun when telling stories. Enjoy and create the story that only you can tell because you are unique and great!!

Lady of the House Pt. 2: Welcome to the Family SUMMARY

I told everyone a bit ago that i was going to post my notes for the sequel since there’s like... a negative percent chance that I’m ever going to finish it. well here they are!!

The reader getting ready for the meeting, it's about a week after saving alcina, so about five days past waking up. The reader is lamenting about the weird lumps on their hands and on their sides and a lump on their head. Alcina comes in and scolds them for picking at the lumps and coaches them on some stuff, they briefly rehash what happened in the last fic. Alcina also brings in the first batch of dresses from lillian. Alcina also??? Maybe?? Bites them on the throat, right above the collar, right in plain sight. This way, she says, mother miranda and the rest of them won't get any wrong ideas about who you belong to or where your loyalty lies. Oh my god. Wait. Wait. The reader is in like….a dress of a certain color?? and lady d accessorizes to also have that color??? Either way, there's an interaction with the daughters here where daniela is like "haha go get em flank steak" and alcina is like >:( and daniela's like "mooooooomn relaaaax it's just a nickname :)" and then the other two sisters are the ones distrustful of the main character

The meeting chapter. They get to the meeting, mother miranda is there, she immediately knows alcina turned the mc and the mc is like :O and then >:O!!!!! Mother miranda and alcina have their spat, and when mother miranda says something biting the main character discharges electricity (though no one knows that) and everyone's hair stands on end and the main character is like "don't fucking talk to her like that" and miranda is big angee about it but the two of them stop fighting. The houses report in, donna reports about the state of the village, salvatore reports about a research outpost he found in his resevoir, and heisenberg cuts in and is like "I think I might know who that is. This guy tried to blow up my factory." chris got away or was captured?? Idk. Regardless, after alcina reports about ethan and hypes up the mc's achievement, everyone's like "….he had pretty massive regenerative powers because of the mold. How did you kill him" and alcina's like "……" and the mc produces the knife because she thought they'd want to see it and alcina's like >:0 and heisenberg does the stabby thingy and it's revealed that alcina has these knives in case the other lords stepped out of line and she needed to kill them quickly. She asks them if they have anything that might kill her or the other lords and donna raises her hand. After that the reader's like "….I MADE A SALAD WITH CRAISINS, WHO WANTS TO HANG OUT WITH ME AND GET TO KNOW ME NOW THAT I'M A PART OF YOUR LITTLE FAMILY =D;;;;;" and mother miranda's like "you're not. But you could be, you have potential. Perhaps 'hanging out' is a good way for the other houses to test your character." and heisenberg is like "hey, me first." they agree to meet up tomorrow and the meeting closes with mother miranda pulling alcina aside to remind her where her loyalties lie. On their way back the mc and alcina have a fuckin Talk

Back at the castle, the daughters are interrogating mc about the meeting over dinner. Mc is explaining, the daughters dish on heisenberg, donna, and salvatore, and lady d also dishes on them and is like telling the mc her opinions of the others. Mc asks about being turned at some point and alcina says that there was never a right time to tell her. The mc and alcina go up to her room, and lady d laments mother miranda's opinion of her. The mc starts praising her and telling her she did well, and lady d gets Really Into It. They fuck and the reader just kinda….takes care of alcina kinda??  

Heisenberg hang out day. He takes the mc to his factory and shows her around, and then he's like "SO. We all got powers when we were turned. I think you got one too, but I'm not sure what it is." and so they test some things out and the mc goes up against some of heisenberg's robots and is like trying to do stuff that the others can do and they kinda stop for the day and the reader is frustrated but then like. Is emotionally "charged" HAHA and zaps something and the two of them look at each other like 8D and so they start testing out the reader's powers and heisenberg si like "you and me, girlie, we're going to make a great team. I can control metal, you can control electricity. All I have to do is line up a connection and you can send your shocks anywhere you want." and the reader is :D alcina picks up the reader and they're like "LOOK WHAT I CAN DO 8D" and lady d is very impressed

They go home and the daughters are like "hi!" and the reader's like "hey daniela, I can zap things" and daniela thinks that's the COOLEST SHIT and asks the reader to zap her and she does and she just laughs and is like "holy fuck" and the other sisters are jealous bc their mom likes this new person and they didn't but daniela has broken their unified front. And so the reader tries to talk to bela and cassandra and bela kinda comes around but cassandra is Not Having It. The reader laments to lady d that the daughters aren't coming around and lady d says that daniela's usually the last so the reader has that going for her. And cassandra is always a bit fussy. And lady d kinda pulls the reader into her lap and the reader shocks her a bit bc emotionally charged and lady d is just ":eyes emoji: can you do that on command" and so they have some electrostimulation fun and lady d bites the reader as she comes and once she's come down she kinda smacks her lips and is like "you're vitamin deficient" and the reader's like "wut" and lady d's like "well, we have to get you eating healthier." and tastes her again and is like "potassium, zinc, magnesium and…sodium? Weird."

The next day donna cancels, and so the reader stays home. They go to the library and start researching the different things the parasite does, and reads about things like that. It mentions electricity powers like an electric eel, and the reader's like….tf is that. Basically through their research they find out that they expel certain ions in order to create their charge, and that those are what they're low on. Lady d comes in and they sit in her lap and explain their discovery. Another exhibition scene. She fucks them in the library, and at one point a maid comes by and the reader is like o/ and lady d's like >:)

Donna scene for realsies!! It's just…weird. They have tea in her house and donna talks to the reader through angie the whole time. The other dolls are serving them tea. They have a nice chat. Donna shows them the garden, and angie talks about the plants and stuff, and says a bit about how donna's power is linked to them. The reader agrees to play hide and seek and it's unexpectedly terrifying. They actually find angie and they hide for a good long while. When the dolls find the mc there's a knock at the door and it's alcina. Alcina enters and donna doesn't want the mc to leave. The mc reassures her that she'll be back. They make a pinky promise.

Another chapter with the daughters. Lady d is doing…something. And it's just the mc and the daughters having a rip roaring old time playing some game where it's daniela and mc against bela and cassandra. Daniela and the reader win and then they all sit around and like…talk and get to know each other and actually make progress towards being friends. And then lady d is lurking and the mc nods for her to come down and she does and they have happy family fun times and lady d reads to them and it's generally just very good.

Salvatore :) he's initially distrustful of the reader bc mm doesn't like her. But they have a kinda awkward talk and the reader opens up about her past and about richard and how she never felt like she was good enough for him either and salvatore gets emotional and talks about how he just wants to be on the same level as the rest of the lords and mc says that he is, he wouldn't be a lord if he wasn't and he protests and says that mm loves the other lords more than him and gets emotional and turns into a fish monster in his state. And the reader helps him into the water and they keep talking. Reader wins him around by telling him dumb fish jokes. He contributes one of his own. They have a good time.

Back at the castle. They're getting ready for some sexy times when mother miranda calls and says "hey you're gonna visit me tomorrow right" and alcina starts fooling around with the reader in revenge and by the end mother miranda totally knows but no one's going to mention it!!!! And then they hang up the phone and actually have sexy times with overstimulation. And afterwards alcina asks about moreau (derogatory) and reader defends him and alcina kinda reassesses her biases and is like "ok, im sorry" and the reader's like "he just wants to make mm proud" and alcina kinda wistfully says "don't we all." the reader's like <-<;;;; and there's a pause but the reader opens up about what they talked to salvatore about.

Mother miranda time. They go on a walk. In the woods. The reader's like "im gonna die" but mother miranda is just taking her to the cave where she found the megamycete or her labs???. She basically makes the reader swear on her life as given to her by alcina and on alcina's as given by miranda that she won't betray this family. And the reader does and miranda is satisfied. She talks a bit, about the megamycete and about her daughter and everything. And she mentions how she was unfair to her children and that she shouldn't have let her grief blind her to the needs of the people who looked up to her. The reader talks about what some of the children said without naming names and is like "you have to do better" and mm looks down at baby!eva/rose in her arms and is like "…yes. Yes I do." and then there's an explosion in the distance and uh oh! It's chris. Mm surrounds the reader in feathers and like turns into a giant bird thing and flies to the source

All the lords are gathered and there's like this helicopter with soldiers and the reader and mm get there and shit goes Down. Heisenberg uses his metal army, donna makes hallucinations, salvatore goes full fish, lady d is chopping and slicing, mm summons mold tendrils, and the mc is hanging back with the baby. Chris approaches mc and mc shocks the ever loving shit out of him. A warning shot at first, and then harder when he tries again. Chris is trying to reason with the mc by saying like….mm tore a family apart and the mc is like "well you're tearing mine apart so fuck you" and shocks him real good. They drive back the soldiers

They regroup and mm is like "they'll keep coming so long as I have the child" and someone's like "well she's yours" and mm is like "the ritual failed. She's not eva. I've been hoping that she eventually would be, but…" and the chapter is basically a negotiation between both parties. Mm gives them the child, and they leave her alone.  Mm sobs as they take rose away and the mc watches as rose is reunited with mia and feels things but still feels sorry for miranda

The h/c chapter. Alcina and mc tending to each other's wounds. Soft sex, caring sex, just…mutually taking care of each other.

The lords gather to welcome the reader into their little family. There's a ritual, the details of which need to be made up still, but…each lord presents a gift and then mm baptizes them or some shit and it's very weird but it ends with the little family cheering at their new addition
