I keep seeing this take that I feel fundamentally misunderstands Edwin's comment about Charles' reaction to The Night Nurse being "extreme".

Charles obviously took it the way so many people are taking it. As a judgment. He's already insecure, already afraid he's a bad person, that he's violent, and Edwin's comment confirms it to him.

But I don't think that's what Edwin meant. I think what he meant was that that reaction was extreme for Charles. He's known Charles for more than thirty years. He's seen how Charles reacts to threats and how he uses violence exclusively in defense against others' violence. And, in comparison to Charles' reaction to The Night Nurse in 106 (trying to convince her to let them go or even to let Edwin go and take him instead), his reaction in 104 is markedly different. Which, to me, suggests that, if there weren't other things going on that Charles was struggling with, this is how he'd have reacted in 104 as well.

Edwin is well aware that this isn't how Charles would normally react, so he knows something is wrong. He's not judging Charles. He's worried about him.

I had to color this in because I loved this idea too much. Scootaloo gets some help from Spitfire and learns an important lesson about strategy and playing the long game.

Will never get over how Starscream and Skyfire's relationship is always doomed. There's never an iteration of them where they both stay on the same side at the end. They always end up being against each other, tearing each other apart (whether intentionally or not). They always end up losing each other, be it by a snowstorm, by the war, or by death itself. They never receive a happy ending together, one if not both of them is doomed to suffer.

Skyfire is doomed to be an Autobot, by forces out of his control. Starscream is doomed to be an Decepticon, by his own self destructive tendencies. They are both doomed, because of who they are. They always try to save the other, in their own way. But it never works. They are doomed to fail, whether they stay together or not.

How do you imagine hybrids work in love and legends? We've seen elf/humans.

So there are 6 different species and aside from the mermaids, they're all compatable to have children.

I headcanon life expectancy, colouration, and the shape of facial or body features to be gradient traits, so they pretty much randomly combine between the two parents like any other child

Magical traits are probably more binary. So a fairy hybrid child could inherit the eyes, wings, and/or sparkles, or none, with no middle ground. A demon hybrid will usually inherit a faded form of the markings, but they won't always be able to transform or earn horns. Dwarf hybrids might inherit the ability to echolocate vs just having larger ears.

If two species with strong magic have a child, they're more likely to inherit magical traits (e.g. elves and fairies with strong magic vs humans and dwarves with low magic)

Considering the domains are all friendly with each other, I imagine it's fairly common to have mixed ancestry and there's no real taboo aside from the grief of lifespan differences

So the thing about Ashton throwing themself into the idea the thing to do is to get rid of the gods and return Exandria to an idealized past where everything was better is that yes, this is a pattern of thinking that comes from a place of pain: from having had a truly awful life, from having recently lost a close friend. BUT, as others have pointed out, Ashton is so consumed by their own pain that they blame the gods for not solving (and in the case of FCG's death, for causing) and reaching so far to grasp at anything that gives that pain meaning (in this case, that their suffering gave them a connection to the Titans, the true, natural rulers of Exandria to whom it must be returned) that they've blinded themself to the pain of others. To the pain of the people of faith who would lose a source of comfort if the gods were gone; to the pain and deaths of the people who aren't "strong" by the estimations of Ka'Mort. And not only has he blinded himself, he's come to a point where these are acceptable losses to him if it gives him the life he feels like he's been denied. Which, frankly, is deeply selfish and morally reprehensible and as others have said possibly a slippery slope into further dangerous ideology.

Just as Ludinus' trauma from the end of the Calamity isn't an excuse for him attempting to release Predathos and all the destruction he's caused to achieve those ends, Ashton's pain isn't an excuse for them to actively pursue a future that, AT BEST, destablizes the lives of vast swathes of people on Exandria and worst ends those lives. Both Ashton and Ludinus claim to speak for the little guy, the weak, the downtrodden, but both are demonstrating they're willing to step on those same people to get where they want.

hot take of the day: xie lian and jin guangyao would have been friends if they'd been written into the same book and placed in a position where they could meet and interact socially without obstacles. i think they would have made each other better and also worse, but in a fun, character-building way, not in a 'let's speed-run being doomed by the narrative' way.
