Vox can understand Velvette just fine. They don't necessarily need to get along all the time, but they have a mutually beneficial contract that guarantees her support in the most efficient way possible, just how they both like it, short and strict and to the point. Vox does not understand Valentino. It drives him unimaginably, disgustingly insane. He knows how to handle him, make no mistake. Valentino is a never-ending powerhouse that wrangles out content from his employees like there's no tomorrow. He's proven himself to be Vox's most lucrative investment yet. He is resourceful, well-connected and most importantly predictable enough to rein in. Because he listens to you, because he needs you.

He is also, undeniably, out of his goddamn mind. Yet you've already invested too much in the corporate empire you've built together and there is no point turning back now that you have him so close to your side. It's OK however! He couldn't possibly be stupid enough to throw away the best partnership deal he's ever had just for the sake of something petty cause -oh, wait - he genuinely might just be that stupid and you never would've guessed because he's so cocksure of his bullshit that 80% of the time it ends up working in his favor anyway.

Fuck his life indeed. The kicker for this of course is that Valentino, genuinely does believe he has struck gold with Vox. Valentino is a clingy, possessive, immature, perverted, sadistic, egotistical man-child with severe rage issues and zero impulse control. No he is not aware of this at all. No he does not know why nobody is able to tolerate him and why every single person he gets close to hates his guts with every inch of their burning rotting souls. All he knows is that hell has now given him a flat faced prince in shining liquid crystal armour, riding on a cash filled horse with promises of power and luxury, who's practically handing him success on a silver platter. Doesn't mean that Val trusts him, doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy seeing him lose his shit. But at the end of the day vox has his back, and as long as Val keeps calling for him, he'll eventually turn up and make everything better. Cause hey if Vox hasn't left him yet for this long he must be doing something right. Right?

something that pisses me off irrational amounts is when people don't get the distinction between

shipping -> wanting a pairing to be canon, believing that they are legitimately in love within the source material and wanting them to get together canonically

and shipping -> loving a pairing and creating/consuming fan content based around that ship because you love the characters and their dynamic

I very rarely have ships that I want to be canon, usually because I don't think the writers could do it better than fanfiction can, but also because it isn't necessary sometimes! And it really pisses me off when I see discourse around ships that are popular for the former kind of shipping, and kind of makes me feel bad? Even though I know I'm not doing anything wrong or annoying, it just kind of sours the whole shipping and fandom experience a little, like this is supposed to be fun!

The thing I love about my ships is just having fun putting them in Situations, reading and writing about them being cuties, gushing about them with other fans who love them, I couldn't give a flying fuck whether the ship are canon or not and I think we should all take things a little less seriously

i am a simple person. i just need them to come home and say "i'm back" while the other is doing whatever their daily business is. i need yuri to have to teach flynn to cook like a normal person bc he can't keep coming home to monstrosities. i need them to talk about their day over dinner and laugh at each other's shenanigans. i need one of them to go to bed before the other some nights with a very comfortable and relaxed "i'm heading to bed now", "okay be there in a bit". i need them to talk briefly in bed before going to sleep on nights they go to bed at the same time or one hasn't fallen asleep yet, and then sleep very close to each other but not always cuddling because they're just perfectly comfortable being that close while still having their "own" space.

i need them to be able to sit in silence and do things around the house near each other without having to always acknowledge each other. i need them past their honeymoon phase where they're so used to each other being around all the time that they're relaxed and it's perfectly normal to just be in the house together. i need them to get to the point where they're like "well damn wait, we've always been this way together". i need them to realize how comfortable and at peace they are with each other's presence that being in the same space is just completely normal.

anyway, it's issues like this one that remind me why i kind of hesitate over some of the retcons in the recent spurrier runs, like the one with him now having opened dream's pouch of sand and stolen some before they even met. because like, it's easy enough to look at john constantine now — with 70 years of worst possible choices and unresolved trauma crystallizing underneath his skin to cover up all the soft, hopeful bits where he's used to getting hit — and assign him arbiter of ill intentions, magus of wasted potential, saint of shit choices, but man . . . he was new to this, once. he was still new to this 80 issues in.

80 issues in, and he's not used to losing friends yet; he even has time enough between catastrophes to grieve each individual one. still has enough left to live for at this stage to necessitate running and hiding, instead of bodily throwing himself at the problem like he learns to later, or sitting apathetically by to do nothing except smoke and watch the world fall apart when he finally gives up. fuck, he still apologizes.
