Armed and Dangerous, Pt. 4
The Underground. The hiding place of the most despised youkai, the oni and the vengeful spirits that remained here. Udeki would finally slow down as she fell into the dark passageway down that led to the Old Capital. After all, now that she wasn't on the surface, she thought, there'd be no reason for the shrine maiden to venture down here. At least, she had to hope. Both that Kasen hadn't yet caught on, and that Reimu hadn't yet been engaged. Her time to secure an ally was limited, and there was only one person who came to mind.
She had to get to Yuugi.
Fortunately, the darkness of the cavern was hardly a worry to her oni eyes, and her obvious strength and identity meant that no feral youkai would dare to attack her - though she almost wished one of them would try, just so she could have a little fun. If her horns weren't so long, she could hide them like Kasen did... shame that wasn't an option, she thought. Either way, it meant that she could take leisurely leaps down the steep passageway, the so-called 'Deep Road to Hell' that was almost more akin to an underground cliff in some places. It wasn't a problem to her. In fact, she anticipated at this point that there would be no more problems.
Once she was deep enough, though, she started to see light coming up from the bottom of the hole. A few leaps more, and it began to level off, and though she couldn't see the source of the light, she could see easily what it illuminated - a long, nicely maintained stone bridge, decorated with lanterns, with a small shrine on the near side, a few hundred feet off the road. She'd heard Kasen talk about this place before - and in particular, she remembered, there'd be a troublesome youkai here. She had to hope that she could cross without incident. As she approached, however, it quickly became clear that that would not happen, a woman dressed in brown floating out of the shrine and over to her, piercing green eyes staring her down. She didn't bother to set herself down, instead floating on her back at eye level, a few dozen feet away.
Tumblr media
"...Ugh. I was hoping when I heard someone coming down that they'd be fun to toy with," she called out, slowly drifting closer. "But I see that it's just you. I can't even get any fun out of manipul... hm. Wait a moment." By this point Udeki had stopped, more out of curiosity than anything, one clawed hand resting on her hip. A hand that belonged to an arm Kasen shouldn't have... and as that clicked into her mind, more details became clear as well. The length of the horns, the differences in her dress...
Tumblr media
"What's this? You're not Kasen at all, are you?" Oh, this became much more interesting. Both for her, and for the oni before her. "...Fine, then. Are you a shapeshifter who's bad at their job? Or..."
Tumblr media
"A shapeshifter, me? Aha, don't make me laugh," Udeki responded, cutting her off. "But you're right about one thing. I'm not Kasen. But I am Ibaraki. Part of her, anyway. Is that enough information for you?"
Tumblr media
"...Oh, that's interesting. I never knew the missing arm had a form of its own." Both of them were smiling, but there wasn't an ounce of positivity in the air for either one. "But that means you're still a surface youkai. And as much as I can feel the envy radiating off of you, you don't belong down here. But you're not about to go home, are you?"
A nod from the oni was all the answer Parsee needed. Floating up higher into the air, she pulled four cards out of her sleeve, holding them up. "You know the rules. Beat four of these and I let you pass. Fail, and you turn around." The spell card duel rules that had been laid out were inviolate, after all - surely no youkai would dare to go against them. And before Udeki could even respond, Parsee was letting loose.
Tumblr media
An intricate barrage of brightly colored bullets shaped like cherry blossoms and green orbs. Described in Marisa's grimoire as 'nothing special', but to Udeki it was the first danmaku she'd ever come across, aside from Reimu's unique attacks. She was an oni, though, and part of a deva at that. Her speed was incredible, and though she struggled, she was able to avoid the attacks - but what frustrated her to the point of snarling was that she couldn't find a way to get close. And she'd yet to develop any danmaku of her own... she was unable to fight back. When Parsee finally let the spell diminish, she was able to avoid being hit, but she clearly wasn't enjoying herself.
Tumblr media
"Stop that right now. Is this some kind of game to you, hashihime?" It was the only response she had time to get off before Parsee turned to her second card. And as she did, she almost seemed to fade out of existence, replaced by a swift trail of those green orbs, just like before. This time, though, rather than spreading out in circles, they chased her. And though she was swift, eventually she got tired of running. She would just attack whatever was there, she decided. And she did do her best to try, with a punch that could easily break apart a stone wall - but there was, of course, nothing to attack. And it meant that she lost the game.
Parsee made absolutely no attempt to hide the smug smile that she'd earned from that outcome. Floating back down to the ground, she gently landed a dozen feet away from the oni, her arms crossed.
Tumblr media
"You lose. Honestly, I was expecting better from someone taking Kasen's form," she gloated. Why not? She'd won, after all. And it felt good to win, even for a hashihime like her. And seeing Udeki's glaring, frustrated face made it feel even better. She could almost understand why the monster liked doing this sort of thing to her so much. Unfortunately for Parsee, though, she'd ventured a little too close. And when Udeki made her move, she couldn't possibly react in time.
Tumblr media
Udeki had practically launched herself from the ground, and her foot slammed into Parsee's stomach at a speed and power that sent her flying at speeds that almost made her appear like a bullet herself. She fell into the ravine that the bridge spanned over, and Udeki's own satisfaction was hearing her knock against the wall on the other side before she fell into the water. She would almost certainly be fine in the long term, but for now, at least, she was out of Udeki's way.
Tumblr media
"Tch... bothersome," she muttered, walking over to cross the bridge on foot now. "I don't like these spellcard duels the modern day youkai've come up with. I sure hope the oni in the capital have more sense than to bother with nonsense like that... well, if not I'll just deal with them the same way." Now that she'd crossed the bridge, it wasn't far now, she knew. She just had to make the last mile and she'd be at the city itself.

We are well beyond canary in the coalmine warning levels with the way trans people and particularly trans women are treated on this site.
Maybe you've heard the metaphor of allowing wolves and sheep to share the same space, welcoming everyone. You end up with just wolves because allowing them in that space makes it unsafe for any sheep. Or the story about how a nazi goes into a dive bar and is refused service. The bartender then explains to someone else at the bar that if you serve them once they tell their friends and before you know it you're the nazi bar they all go to and normal customers don't feel safe.
Terfs and other bigots are seeing these targeted harassment campaigns succeed against trans women and rejoicing. They see Tumblr ban them and officially stand by those decisions as endorsement for their harassment. It's a sign to bigots across the internet that Tumblr is a good place for them.
And what's more is that a lot of us probably don't realize just how much trans women contribute to Tumblr. The women banned recently were sources of site-wide memes and posts I wasn't even aware originated from them.any years old memes and references can be traced back to trans women on this site.
How many of these folks have to be removed before this is no longer a site you want to be a part of it? Sure you cultivate your own experience, but you can't follow or interact with people who aren't here. And if I wanted to interact with the nazis and terfs I'd go to reddit.
I encourage everyone to reblog this. Trans women shouldn't have to be the only ones speaking out against the bigotry they're experiencing. They shouldn't be the only ones risking their blogs being nuked by staff. We have to stand with them.

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

you know what boils my blood.
over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."
i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.
but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.
today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.
the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.
so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.

finally at that age where i'm thinking i should get a tattoo. not bc i feel strongly about it, just seems like a waste not to. i've got so much skin i'm not using
#feels so selfish like. all this skin what am i saving it for?#open to design suggestions! (please make me regret this offer)#maybe some deep sea horrors. a pretty watercolor of a gulper eel#once saw a person on the subway with various Skeleton Tattoos on all their limbs#i respected their commitment to the theme#but more than that i respected how all the skeletons were engaged in Activities#dancing in a ballgown. juggling its own (and two other???) skulls. swordfighting. being a mermaid skeleton#ANYWAY. the only reason i haven't already gotten tattoos is i just couldn't be bothered#i'm old enough to know i don't have any strong-but-potentially-temporary feelings driving me towards it#aesthetically i prefer decorated to non-decorated surfaces. but i'm not artistic or thrilled with commitment#honestly it feels like sheer laziness. indecisiveness--nay. immaturity!--that i HAVEN'T gotten a tattoo yet#letting all this blank canvas go to waste. tut tut i need to grow up and be an adult and get a tattoo sleeve already.#really i've put off my responsibilities long enough#(in fairness i DID at one time have 18 different piercings)#(but i took most of them out bc they interfere with wearing headphones and/or shoving my face in my pillow during Sleep Time)#(i only kept the nape piercing bc oddly enough it ended up being the most convenient. and the least painful to get now i think about it.)#(neck piercing? no problem. normal pair of earrings? Tribulations And Suffering. i don't make the rules i just poke them with a stick.)

Damian had recently taken to feed the very strange green wispy animal.
The strangest thing of this? Damian was pretty sure, despite the changes in race, it was always the same one.
Dick, who had seen the exchange from his window after sleeping over, got his phone and called beast boy in a panic.
