the rational part of my mind: see the thing about ieytd roleplays is that actually building a community would be a very difficult affair. it would be very hard to establish continuity, and most levels of the game don't really ever feature any more than you and your handler, which doesn't leave much room for other people to be included, and it's a complete and utter toss up who at any given time controls the set dressing or triggers important events. also since the game is mostly revolved around puzzles being able to actually get established scenes that all parties can participate in in equal measure would be a challenge. also you've only watched one james bond movie, and outside of the netflix reboot of carmen sandiego you haven't actually consumed a lot of spy adjacent medias, so you don't really know the tropes- good or bad- to use or avoid in your portrayal of pretty much any of the characters. also you haven't roleplayed in months.

Avril Lavigne's career is so fucking funny, Like there's distinct eras but it all sort of revolves around the same aesthetic, she's like taylor swift for girls who aren't like other girls. And yet in 2013 there was a conspiracy theory that she was replaced with a body double because her aesthetic allegedly changed so much, and then now there's articles about how she hasn't changed anything up at all in 20 years of music. Both of these cannot be true and yet the music critics have decreed them both

also to be clear the eras are "17 year old heterosexual tomboy" "I'm totally punk now you guys" (this was her best era Under My Skin you will always be relatively obscure in comparison to her other work) "The Motherfuckin Princess" "Actually I changed my mind about being punk I want to be a pop princess now" (this one spanned two albums) and then the break and of course the era she's in now "Queen of the tiktok emo revival"

Quickly setting aside his coffee cup (having been fortunate enough to not spill coffee everywhere, thank goodness) and closing the libretto once he was sure the ink was dry, he let her in, leading her over to his little sitting area, taking a seat beside her on the lounger as he surveyed the differing newspapers now set before him on the table. Different newspapers, different reviewers...different opinions...

my aunt used to be a beauty pageant kid. had long, beautiful red hair with a curl pattern that made hairdressers jealous. her mother would pay people lots of money to spend hours styling my aunt's hair

predictably, as a young adult, my aunt cut all of her hair off. buzzed down to the scalp. she still keeps it pretty short- long enough for curls to develop, but only on the top of her head. she says she can't stand the feeling of her hair touching her ears or neck.

recently she's started collecting and styling wigs. she'll even wear them, occasionally, to a fancy event or if she just doesn't want to be bothered by distant family when she goes shopping. and she spends hours styling these wigs, even though she doesn't use them all that often.

i asked her about it. she said that sometimes, growth looks a lot like regression with a twist. that she's reclaiming something she enjoyed as a kid, and could have enjoyed more. she said she's practicing having agency, and that it's a skill that doesn't come very naturally for her. having agency, i mean. she's really good at styling wigs.
