Different, Yet Similar
I woke up a few days ago with this fic in my head and for some reason I was able to write it out really quick, I don’t know how that happened XD I also decided it was the perfect opportunity to try out a slightly different writing style, and while I don’t think I’ll stick with it, it was an interesting experiment anyways :)
————————————————————
“So... how did you guys all meet your Zeldas?”
Wind is the one to pose the question, said while looking around with curious eyes at the rest of the Links. Most of who now have varying expressions of surprise on their faces, the question unexpected.
“Why do you ask, sailor?” Time asks, his single eye watching him curiously. Wind shrugs, fiddling with one of the power bracelets that has taken permanent residence on his wrists. They’re good for fidgeting with, he’s found.
“I’m just curious if any of us met ours similarly or not.” His mouth turns up into a grin. “I mean, I met Tetra after she got dropped by a giant bird and got stuck in a tree. I’d bet none of you guys met yours quite like that.”
Snickers ring through the camp, though a few of the Links give the sailor mildly concerned looks as well. The nonchalance with which Wind speaks of the antics he and his princess get up to sometimes worries them.
“Was she okay?” Hyrule asks in concern, and Wind nods, waving him off with a small flick of his wrist.
“Totally fine. Tetra’s tough, it would take more than a fall from a giant bird to rattle her.”
“A giant bird?” Sky asks eagerly, perking up a little. Wind doesn’t perk up in return though, rather he cringes at the excitement in Sky’s voice.
This isn’t a giant bird like the kind Sky is used to.
“Not a nice one,” he replies, thinking back to the crimson bird that was Sky’s best friend. “Ganondorf was using the bird to kidnap girls he thought might’ve been Zelda. Tetra had been grabbed, but she got dropped because her pirate crew managed to score a hit on the bird... the Helmarok king. He wasn’t nice,” Wind finishes more quietly, an unusual dark thread of anger in his voice.
Then he sighs, and shakes off the memories, looking around at the other Links in curiosity.
“So? How’d you guys meet your Zeldas?”
“Um... which one?” Hyrule asks hesitantly, scratching his neck. He’s in the rather unique position of knowing two princesses by the name of Zelda, a fact which often confuses his traveling companions. “I kinda have two...”
“Do both,” Wild says from where he’s seated nearby, and Hyrule nods.
“Okay. Well... there’s not really much to tell, honestly. For the first Zelda, I just met her after I defeated Ganon. He’d captured her, and after I defeated him I got her out and took her back to the castle.”
Hyrule laughs a little then, and looks up at the sky, constellations just starting to come into view.
“We were both a mess when I got into the place where he’d been keeping her; I was dirty and bleeding in multiple places, and Zelda had basically been living in a dungeon for a few weeks. It wasn’t exactly polite company,” he chuckles.
The others laugh a little at Hyrule’s story, though some of them wince in sympathy at the mention of his wounds. Fights with Ganon were never easy.
They’re all aware of how powerful their greatest foe is.
“How about your other Zelda? How did you meet her?” Sky asks, and Hyrule suddenly blushes for some reason, fidgeting with his bracers.
“Well um, she’d been cursed into a long sleep by an evil wizard, so when I first saw her she wasn’t even awake,” he admits. “But after I woke her up, that’s when I actually met her.”
“And what happened then?” Legend asks with a teasing smirk, having noticed Hyrule was still blushing.
The traveler’s cheeks darken a little, but he admits to nothing. “She said thank you for waking her up.”
“And how did she say thank you?” Wind asks with a mischievous look in his storm-tossed eyes.
Hyrule blushes even darker, but still admits to nothing— though the face he’s making says an awful lot. The others really don’t need to know about the kiss he received in thanks for waking the second Zelda: he knows he’ll never hear the end of it if they do.
Hyrule manages to meet Wind’s gaze without faltering, crossing his arms with a firm look.
“With her mouth, of course. How else would she say thanks?” he says a bit haughtily, and Time decides to intervene before poor Hyrule’s face turns any redder.
“I met my Zelda in a fairly simple way,” he says, and the other Links turn to look at him, abandoning their pursuit of getting an answer out of Hyrule in favor of listening to what Time has to say. Their unofficial leader rarely gives them details of his adventures, no less his version of the princess they’re all so familiar with. “I was... about nine, I believe, maybe ten.”
He sighs, shaking his head as he thinks back to when so much of his life had abruptly changed.
“I was instructed to go see her, but they didn’t want to let a mere child in at the gate. So I snuck into the castle to talk to her, and succeeded, more than once. The guards hated that a ten-year-old could get past them without being seen,” he says with a chuckle. “They weren’t terribly good at their jobs.”
“That’s a little like how I met my version of the princess,” Twilight says thoughtfully, a hand on his chin. “‘Course I didn’t sneak into the castle, I was trying to sneak out.”
“Why, were you in the dungeon?” Legend scoffs, and Twilight smirks.
“That’s exactly it, actually.”
Legend’s face turns to one of surprise, and more laughter rings out from the Links, especially from Wild.
“I was wondering when you were gonna tell them you’re an escaped convict,” he grins at his mentor, and Twilight swats at him with a look both fond and annoyed.
“I’m not an escaped convict,” he says with an eye roll. “The enemy had overtaken the castle, they’re the ones who threw me in there. I committed no crime.”
“Mmm, I’m pretty sure some of the stuff you’ve done counts as crime,” Wild cuts in again, a grin twitching at his lips. “What about the time you blew up that old—”
“Somebody else’s turn,” Twilight interrupts, putting a hand over Wild’s mouth, much to his annoyance. He’d rather wanted to be the one to tell the others about that particular incident.
“Smithy? How about you? You’re pretty good friends with your Zelda, right?” Twilight asks, ignoring the clamor of the others to elaborate.
Four nods, and a bright smile stretches across his face at the reminder of his closest friend.
“You’re right, I’ve known Zelda as long as I can remember,” Four begins as he sets aside the dagger he’d been sharpening, eyes warm. They suddenly dim a little though, and he clears his throat. “I think the first true memory I have of her was at my... a family member’s funeral.”
The other Links still as the smithy speaks, Twilight relinquishing his hold on Wild so they can both better hear. Four looks down at his hands as he thinks back to that day, but then a bit of a smile returns to his lips.
“She came because the family member knew the crown fairly well. We were the only kids there, so we ended up talking a lot... That’s when I really got to know her, and we’ve been close ever since,” he finishes quietly.
“That was similarly to how I met mine,” Sky says after a moment of silence, his voice soft. Four nods at him to continue, and Sky returns it with a bit of a smile. “I knew Zelda a little before, it was impossible not to on Skyloft. There’s not all that much space... but that was the problem when the sickness went through...”
He trails off, then shakes his head as if to clear it, hair falling in his face as he takes a steadying breath.
The memory of the death of his parents isn’t one he likes to linger on, even if it inadvertently led to him becoming friends with Zelda.
“Anyways,” Sky continues, clearing his throat, “I ended up living in the Knight’s academy before I was old enough to attend, and since Zelda lived there with her father as well, we played together all the time. It was inevitable we’d at least become friends.”
“You became a bit more than just friends though, or so I’ve heard,” Warriors says slyly, and Sky blushes as the laughter returns. The captain’s attempt at lightening the mood has succeeded.
“We... haven’t officially become anything,” Sky says simply, and the rest of them shoot each other knowing looks. It’s no secret that Sky is head-over-heels for his Zelda. It’s only a matter of time before something becomes official.
Sky looks back at Warriors then, the captain still chuckling a little over the reaction to his comment.
“You haven’t told us how you met your Zelda, captain,” he points out, and Warriors’ laughter peters off, a fond look replacing the mirth in his eyes.
“Ah, you caught me. Mine is complicated though,” he says with a slightly distant tone in his voice, and the others settle in to listen again. Warriors has mentioned more of his Zelda than some of the others, but not everything they’ve done or been through.
And while he speaks of her with nothing but professionalism, there’s a fondness in his eyes that a few of the Links have picked up on, one that speaks of a deeper bond.
One that nobody’s called him out on yet, but it’ll only be a matter of time.
“I only sort of met her the first time,” Warriors begins, leaning back on the log where he’s seated. “The war had just started, and things were... complicated, to say the least. Messy. She disguised herself to keep her identity safe, so I didn’t truly meet Zelda for quite some time.”
“But when you did?” Wind asks eagerly, and Warriors chuckles.
“It was worth the wait. But I got to know her while she was disguised, so in a way... I already knew her,” he says with a bit of mystery, and Time smiles from the opposite side of the fire.
Time still remembers the day Sheik shed her disguise and revealed herself to be the princess. Warriors was so shocked he’d said something rather idiotic, and Artemis had laughed at him a bit nervously, and then the two of them had gone off to have a long overdue conversation about her true identitiy.
Time won’t bring it up though. He’ll let Warriors keep a few of his secrets yet.
“That leaves... Wild and Legend left who haven’t said anything,” Wind says after a moment, counting off on his fingers.
The two look up at their nicknames, but Wild has a slightly uncertain look in his eyes, and Legend seems oddly stone-faced. Wind looks between the two, and debates for a moment which one to ask first.
Hyrule beats him to it.
“Champion, do you... remember meeting your Zelda the first time?” Hyrule asks a bit hesitantly. The others quiet at the question, and look as one over at Wild.
They’re all aware of Wild’s memory problems, but nobody except for maybe Twilight is truly aware of the extent they reach their blank grip into the champion’s mind. He still doesn’t remember much of his old life, merely a handful of memories recovered here and there that snatch him out of the life he’s currently living, then return him just as abruptly.
But meeting Princess Zelda is not one of these.
“Nope,” Wild says lightly, somewhat in opposition to the serious mood that has fallen over the heroes. “Not at all. I have no clue how we first met... knowing what she thought of me, I probably accidentally insulted her.”
The heroes chuckle good-naturedly, and Wild waits for the sound of their laughter to fade before continuing.
“No, I don’t remember how we originally met. My first true memory of Zelda isn’t when I met her... whenever that must have been.”
A soft smile parts his lips.
“It... was her voice. Back when I was still asleep. Calling to me, urging me awake once the shrine had finally finished healing me. She guided me when there was nobody else, told me my name, and though I didn’t even remember hers... that was when I first met Zelda.”
Twilight gives his shoulder a squeeze, and Wild lets him, a look full of several conflicting emotions settling on his face.
Warmth is the one that shows itself the most though, and a ghost of a smile flits across Twilight’s face when he sees it.
“How about you, Legend? You’ve been pretty quiet,” Four asks, changing the focus to give Wild some privacy. The prickly veteran tugs his cap tighter over his hair in response, hiding a few more strands of the pink that’s still fading away.
“She called to me too,” he says, voice oddly emotionless. “Woke me up in the dead of night and asked for help, with nothing but her voice.”
Something flickers in his gaze, but it’s gone so quickly nobody can quite catch what it is.
“She guided me to the castle, and I managed to find my way to where she’d been imprisoned in her own dungeon by the forces of darkness. I freed her, and that’s where I met her,” he finishes.
“That’s it?” Wind asks in confusion, a slight tilt to his head, and Legend nods.
“That’s it.”
It’s short and to the point, and while some of the heroes nod, the others that are more aware of how their veteran works pick up on the holes in the story.
The Hero of Legend may seem sharp and fearless, but even he has weak points, moments where he has felt neither like a hero nor strong enough to ever be one. These moments he’s purposefully left out of this story, important though they may be.
These are not moments he shares freely. And especially not during what’s supposed to be a lighthearted answer to the boundless curiosity of the youngest member of their group.
“See sailor? None of us met our Zeldas the same way you did,” Legend says with a smirk, easily changing the subject, and Wind hums, looking around at the heroes as he fidgets with his bracelets again.
“That’s true. But there’s similarities between all of them,” he points out, “and some of them are really similar, like yours and Wild’s.”
“Hyrule’s second one was a bit like Wild’s too,” Twilight points out. “Just reversed.”
“And Twilight’s was kind of like the old man’s,” Hyrule mentions with a bit of wonder to his voice, and that sends the group into a flurry of comparing and contrasting the differences, debating the finer points and wondering if the similarities mean anything.
Four though, hangs back from the conversation, not as willing to discuss things. As he looks around the clearing, he notices he’s not the only one either, and he slips around the fire to where the veteran has retreated, watching the others in silence.
Sky sees him go, but doesn’t comment. He knows what the smithy is doing.
“Hey,” Four greets as he settles down, and Legend doesn’t look at him.
“You need something?” the veteran asks with a sharpness in his voice that threatens to slice Four into pieces. The smithy ignores it, well used to Legend’s prickliness, and continues to sit, watching the others keep on with their loud discussion.
“No. I just didn’t want to keep listening to... all of that,” Four says with a slight smile, watching as Wind lunges across Warriors’ lap to grab at Wild for some reason.
Legend doesn’t reply, face still stony.
Four doesn’t directly look at him, but he watches the veteran from the corner of his eyes, seeing how tightly he’s wound, how his expression is set in a way that seems to be solely for the purpose of keeping it from cracking into something vulnerable.
It’s a familiar look, one that Four’s seen on his own face. There’s a part of him that’s like that, sometimes, but that just means he knows somewhat of how to deal with it... whether Legend wants him to or not.
“It was my mother,” Four says suddenly, breaking the silence.
Legend looks over at him, a flicker of surprise joining the crease on his brow. He appears rather taken aback, and Four waits for his reply.
“What was?” the veteran asks. Four looks up at the sky for what feels like a long, long time before replying, and Legend almost wonders if he’s ever going to speak.
“The funeral where I met Zelda,” Four continues, voice full of a bittersweet pain. “It was my mother’s.”
Legend stares at him a moment, unsure of how to reply.
“You don’t have to say anything,” Four continues, still looking up. His eyes are a reddish color, hints of green and blue peeking through that allude to the emotions he’s keeping a steady control of. “I just wanted you to know... you’re not the only one who didn’t meet Zelda under the... best circumstances.”
Four continues to watch the stars, and Legend swallows, his stony indifference cracking despite his best efforts.
Legend doesn’t like to admit it, but despite how carefully he closes himself off, sometimes he’s just as expressive as Wind— what he doesn’t say actually saying more than anything he admits to. And it looks like Four, dealing with a similar pain, has seen right through him.
The veteran is silent for a long time, listening to the others laugh and carry on, and Four sits beside him in equal silence, waiting for as long as Legend needs.
“My uncle,” he whispers finally, and Four squeezes his shoulder.
He doesn’t say anything more. And he doesn’t need to.

“Better terrible truths than kind lies.”
-Six if Crows, Leigh Bardugo,
Promises are made and broken. How could Time watch his friend die when it’s possible the other is safe? Which choice is the right one?
4456 words.
Warnings for torture, kidnapping, vomiting. Let me know if there should be anything else!
~~~~
He thought things couldn’t get much worse when he was kidnapped with Sky and Four.
After days of starvation, he was losing hope of being able to break out of here. And they had, if his internal clock is correct (and it always is), one more day until their captors started torturing them.
His eyes find the smith, who’s shackled to the wall of his cell, bars separating them.
Sky lays unconscious on the floor of Four’s cell, the smith finally tearing his gaze from the skyloftian as the teenager clears his throat.
Storm cloud grey eyes find his, expression deadly serious. “Time. If it comes down to it, save Sky. Not me.”
He pauses, unsure of what to say to that.
“Four, don’t-”
“Time, promise me.”
“Four-”
“No, Time, I don’t want to hear the ‘it won’t come to that,’ or ‘we’re all gonna get out of here,’ you don’t know that. Promise me- that if it comes down to it, if you have to choose, you will save Sky and let me die if you have to.”
“Four I can’t-”
“Do it!” Four snaps, eyes flashing blue. “Sky has people at home who need him- friends who need him, family, his Zelda! I’ve got no one, ok?! It doesn’t matter to anyone but you guys if I make it! Sky has people who need him! He has a future! Promise me, Time!”
The desperation and raw fear in the kid’s voice makes him pause. Slowly nod, more out of surprise than actual agreement.
“Say it.” Four demands.
“I promise.” He says weakly.
“Promise what?” Four insists, arms crossed.
“If- if it comes down to… a choice… I’ll save Sky.”
Four relaxes, slowly releasing a breath and relaxing as much as he’s able with the chains around his wrists and ankles. “Thank you.”
He feels sick. How could he do that? Promise that?
But… it won’t come to it, he reminds himself.
All of them are getting out of here. Alive.
~~~~
He’s jolted out of the restless doze he’d managed to fall into by the sound of his cell opening.
Blearily, he raises his head to the bars. One of the weird soldiers in red is staring at him, laughing cruelly when he startles and yelps in shock.
“Wakey, wakey, little one! I had the honor of picking the first victim of our torture. Unless… you want to save us the trouble and tell us where the hero is?”
He slowly licks his dry, cracked lip, spitting in the face of his captor.
Instead of being angry, the man seems excited. “That’s what I thought. Come on, little boy.”
His chains are replaced with heavy shackles that make it very hard to move- especially with the lack of food and water.
He casts a cautious glance into Time’s cell- the leader is watching wearily, making the briefest of eye contact with him.
“Save. Sky.” He mouths, and Time looks away.
Then he raises his chin and allows the soldier to lead him out of the cell, down a hall, up a staircase that nearly makes him pass out, down another long hallway, and back down some steps and through a large room and into a little hidden door and through- he loses track, which he’s sure is the point of the ridiculous route.
But eventually the soldier stops him, and he’s forced to lay on a table as he’s chained up again.
“It has been five days, boy.” Another soldier says. This one is bigger, taller, holding a much larger sword. “Your friends are not coming for you. You will save yourself much pain if you simply tell us where the hero Link is.”
He stays silent, looking into the eyes of the mask.
“We can be merciful. We can release you, feed you, tend to your friend’s wounds. Where did your friend, the hero, run to?”
“I wouldn’t tell you even if I knew.” He snaps, cursing himself for replying. But hunger and dehydration make him woozy, and he can’t trust himself.
He’s glad he’s not sure where the others went.
A soft sigh comes from the leader-seeming one.
The smaller one pulls out a wicked looking knife, long and jagged and clearly having one intended purpose.
“We’ll do this the hard way, then.”
He raises his chin as much as he can. “Bring it. Come on.”
The first slice is to his leg. Another quickly joins it.
And another.
On his calf, one above another. Four long cuts, for the four colors on his tunic, the leader says.
A break, another question, another chance for him to talk.
They move up to his arm.
Four long, thin slices that bleed heavily and quickly are dripping all over the floor.
Then the other arm. Then the other leg.
He takes it without noise, keeping his eyes locked firmly on the leader.
I’ve had worse, he hopes it comes through. There is no part of me that isn’t broken and healed, and I am stronger because of it.
“Break bones.” The leader says in a bored tone of voice.
He grits his teeth as the soldier nears him, bearing his teeth. “Let’s go, then. Break ‘em. Which one you gonna start with? I recommend the ribs. Painful and damaging.”
Sure enough, the first blow is to his side. Knocks the breath right out of him, the fight in him faltering.
Then his wrist.
He has to bite back a yell, tears streaming down his cheeks now. But he forces himself to talk- he will not break. Never.
“That all you’ve got? Clean breaks. Those will heal up fine in a month or so.”
Mistake. The leader pauses, then hands something to the soldier.
A mallet.
A mallet.
“Smash his hand. Shatter the bones beyond repair. Maybe he’ll be willing to talk then.”
All the fight in him evaporates.
They can take a lot from him.
His sword, his armor, his tunic, hell, his dignity. But his thing, the thing he defines himself with is his craft.
Shattering his hand will destroy that.
The leader enjoys the fear he can’t hide in his eyes.
His breaths quicken, tears pricking in his eyes again, entire body trembling against the chains.
“Last chance, little boy. You’re a craftsman, I can tell. Surely the hero isn’t losing your work over?”
He swallows defiantly, making himself look at the leader once more.
Another sigh.
A wave of the hand.
The hammer swings down, down-
“I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY WENT!” He screams, squeezing his eyes shut.
A loud slam, the air of the hammer blowing an ironically gentle breeze on his hand.
His teeth are chattering.
The corner of the table collapses, leaving a jagged edge on the solid wood.
“I don’t know where they went. We- we were planning to get to the stable nearby. That’s all I know.” He whispers, closing his eyes again.
He’s shuddering violently, uncontrollably, even more when a gentle hand brushes his hair out of his face.
“What’s your name, little boy?”
“Four.” He whispers shakily, forcing himself to swallow.
“Well, Four. I think you’re lying to me.”
His eyes fly open.
“You kidnapped me! I’ve been here for days! How am I supposed to know where they went?! I-”
“He annoys me. Find an interesting organ and remove it.”
A knife plunges into his side, and all the air in his body is sucked right out.
In. Out. In. Out.
Slowly, the knife cuts his flesh open. Open. Doing goddess knows what to his body.
It hurts.
He’s been stabbed before, by weapons much worse than knives, but he’s never had surgery while wide awake.
He tenses as much as his body allows him to, sweat mixing with the tears running down his face, teeth biting his lip bloody.
He knows they just want to hurt him to get Time to talk. They know he doesn’t know where Wild and the others went. They know that Time does.
And one look at Time tells them the old man isn’t going to break through good old fashioned torture. But… maybe they can negotiate his torture’s end through Time’s information…
All they need him to do is scream.
Sound pained.
Act the part.
I will not, he tells himself, blood dripping down his chin from how hard he’s biting his lip to keep himself from screaming.
I won’t, he reminds himself as he sobs, thrashing as much as he’s able to- which isn’t much.
But in the end, he’s not Twi, with his strength, or Wars with his unshakable confidence, or Wind with his courage.
He’s a teenager who grew up privileged in a comfortable house where he knew little pain, went on a relatively easy adventure compared to the heros around him.
He never died or faced a god.
He thought he knew pain. How wrong he was.
The knife brushes his rib cage, and he screams.
~~~~
A scream cuts through the silence of his cell, echoing down the long, empty halls.
He runs for the cell bars, looking down the hall, calling Four’s name, but sees nothing and gets no reply.
Just another agonized scream.
Then- “Time!”
He falters. “Wars?!”
“Time! I’m here, where’s Four, where’d they take him? Where’s Sky? We’re gonna get you out.”
“Go get Four, go get Four, I don’t know where he’s at-”
Wars nods quickly, already moving down the hall. “I’ll be back! I’ll be right back!” The captain shouts, and then he’s gone.
He waits one long minute. Two. Three. Fifteen.
Wars comes rushing back, Legend and Twi behind him, a multicolored bundle in the rancher’s arms.
Blood on both Legend and Wars, whether it’s Four’s, their own, or… someone else’s, he doesn’t know.
“Bleeding out as we speak, we have to go!” Legend snaps before he can even ask, slipping a hand through the bars into his cell.
“Take this bracelet, touch the wall, activate it, inactivate it. I’ll explain later.”
He’s seen quite a few things, during his adventures. Been transformed and transformed again, into thing after thing after thing. A deku scrub, a zora, so on and so on. But he’s never been a painting until now.
He shudders once he’s back to normal, shakily handing the vet his bracelet back.
“You get used to it. Where’s Sky?” The vet say, sliding it back over his hand.
He shakes his head weakly. “They took him. He was hurt. Badly. Haven’t seen him since.”
The three share a long look.
“We have to go.” Twi says quietly, looking down at a beat up and very bloody Four. “He’s not gonna last much longer.”
Wars peers at the smith, checking his breathing and his pulse. “Five minutes to look. Split up, meet back here or get left behind. That’s all we’ve got. Twi, keep that wound covered.”
A tense nod, and they all split.
He searches room after room after room, hollering Sky’s name, looking, looking, well past five minutes.
But he finds nothing, hits a dead end, and has to go back.
And they leave.
Four’s barely breathing, deathly pale, and his pulse is so, so weak. They don’t have a choice.
They leave Sky somewhere in the building, getting Four back to the inn others had found in their absence.
Wars and Twi talk to him, pressing him for answers, but all he can hear is the promise he’d made to the smith ringing in his ears over and over again.
~~~~
Their arrival at the inn is a chaotic mess.
Everyone scrambles to find potions, medical supplies, anything that might help Four.
Time sits on a seat at the table and stares out the window, refusing to allow anyone to look over him.
Wars and Hyrule get Four to a bed, working over him for hours and hours.
Four stops breathing once.
They get him going again, but the poor kid is still fighting for his life well into the night, well into the morning, all the next day, until Wars emerges from the room with Hyrule at his side.
“He’s stable.” The captain says quietly, then promptly falls into a chair and passes out.
Rulie follows suit mere minutes later.
Both men had been up all night. They let them rest, moving them carefully to their own room, and he takes to watching the smith.
“Let me watch him for a bit, Vet. Get some sleep.” Twi offers once, but he waves the rancher away.
Nothing happens for days. Four refuses to wake up. Sometimes they can get him to take some broth, coax a bit of water into him, but the teen remains unmoving on the bed.
The morning starts as usual- he wakes up, checks on Four. Wind reports that he’d been awake for a couple seconds, weak and confused, then fell back asleep.
That’s new. Over the past couple days, Four’s gained his color back, gotten skeletally thin, and the jagged cuts all over his body had slowly started healing up.
His heart rate picked up, breathing became less labored, even moving every so often. Rulie and Wars were optimistic he’d wake up soon.
And later that day he does, managing to scare the absolute crap out of all of them when he does.
Wild makes dinner, gathers them into a larger meeting room, wakes the two snoring heroes, and serves them all dinner.
It takes five minutes for them to start discussing plans to go back, find Sky, who should go, who needs to stay, when they're going-
Four stumbles into the room, pale and shaking. Barefoot, stripped to his underclothes, panicked and on the verge of hyperventilation.
“Where’s Sky?” The kid demands, swaying dangerously. Eyes scanning over the silent room, face paling when he realizes a face is missing.
Wars leaps up to grab the teenager, steadying him quickly. “Smithy, hey, kiddo, let’s take a seat? Just breathe, Buddy, just breathe…”
“Sky.” Four pleads weakly, struggling with all the minimal strength Four’s tiny body possesses.
“Want to try something to eat? You’ve been out a few days, let’s try-”
“Where’s Sky?!” Four demands, dragging his heels on the floor. Wars falters, giving him a slow look.
“Four, buddy… take a seat, kiddo, we’ll explain everything.”
“Tell me.” Four begs, eyes welling up.
“He’s still there.” Twi says softly, gently, eyes full of apology. “We had a plan… it went wrong. Almost immediately. We went to go find him, but we didn’t… we had to go, you were bleeding out- Four- Four, no!” Twi shouts as Four lunges over the table at Time.
“You lied to me!” Four screams, slapping the man across the face. “You promised me! You promised me! You’re a liar!” Four howls as he and Twi wrestle the kid off of the old man as gently as possible.
“You son of a bitch!” Four screams from the ground, tears running down his face and into his hair. “I hate you! I hate you!”
Time’s expression shatters, all the emotions he’d been hiding since their return on full display as the old man breaks down into tears.
“I’m sorry, Four, I-”
Four goes ballistic, breaking out of Twi’s grasp and raking his fingernails over Time’s face hard enough to draw blood the second he’s close enough.
“Sorry isn’t going to help you when I kick the shit out of you!” Four screeches, eyes flashing.
Twi leaps to try to intercept the teen, and chaos erupts. Four’s screaming, Twi’s yelling, Wild’s just staring in shock, Hyrule’s frantically rummaging through his bag and calling to someone, he’s running to try to help Twi, shouting over his shoulder, and Wind’s just burst into the room with a yelp of surprise, likely trying to find out what’s going on.
“Suck my ass you motherfu-”
Hyrule sticks a needle into Four’s arm when Twi wrestles the kid back to the ground, the smithy cutting off his cursing to howl in pain.
“You… you’re a liar…” Four pants, chest heaving, eyes fluttering as the kid clings to consciousness. “You ruined… everything…”
“Four-” Time pleads, but Four’s eyes flutter closed.
“Hate you.” The kid breathes out, hand tightly grasping Twi. “You… lied.”
And the kid’s out.
~~~~
They all stare in shock, Twi openly gaping at the smith underneath him.
Slowly moves his arms, sitting back so he’s not holding Four down anymore.
There’s blood on his hands. Despite his efforts, he’d ripped Four’s wounds right open again.
Wars slowly moves to tend to the scratches down Time’s face as Hyrule slowly starts on Four.
“Look up, did he get your eye?” Wars says quietly, and they all watch.
Time lifts his gaze to the ceiling, revealing the damage done.
Hyrule offers a towel, and the old man presses it to his bloody face. The scrapes aren’t bad, shallow and barely spotting blood, but long lines go down his cheek, to his jaw.
Very narrowly missing his eye.
The rancher carefully gets Four off the ground, the kid still out cold in the rancher’s arms.
“What’d he mean you lied to him?”
“Twi.” Wars says softly, disapprovingly.
Time’s eyes hold a deep sadness, a hint of guilt as he looks at Four. “He made me promise to save Sky instead of him if I needed to choose.”
Silence.
“Time…” Twi says softly, hand raking through his hair.
“How could you break such a promise?” Wild says in horror, staring at their leader.
“What, is he supposed to just let Four die?” Legend says incredulously.
“He promised he would.”
“If it came down to it, would you have the guts to watch your friend die?!” Wind asks, gesturing wildly with his arms.
“If I’d made a promise! I don’t break my promises!”
Time flinches.
“Wild, so much was going on, we didn’t know where Sky was, our best assumption was that he wasn’t being tortured like Four was and we’re hoping he’s in better condition than Four, the smith was bleeding out in my arms, we did what was best-”
“You promised him! Hylia above- if I’d begged someone to make me a promise like that to find out they didn’t keep it-”
Wild’s eyes find Twi’s, words faltering. Swallows thickly, turning away. “I’d rather be dead. Then… that.”
Twi gently shifts the teenager in his arms.
There’s a long moment of silence.
“I’m going to… get a bed for him.” The rancher finally says awkwardly, moving to leave. Hyrule stops him quickly.
“Wait! He’s uh… going to be nauseous when he wakes up. Should only be a few hours. But he’s… yeah.”
Twi nods, taking a deep breath and leaving the room.
They all silently watch him go.
~~~~
Hyrule said it’d be a few hours.
He’s not sure if he forgot to take Four’s size into account, or if Four’s just… sleeping, but the kid doesn’t as much as move for five hours.
The only sign he’s alive is the very slow rise and fall of his chest.
After those long hours, though, he slowly starts shifting, turning, hums groggily when he gently shakes the kid, and he lets him be for a little longer.
Not long after that, the teenager slowly opens his eyes and gives a groggy mumble.
Tries to sit up, flopping right back onto the bed.
“Easy.” He says softly, putting a hand on Four’s shoulder. “We… really knocked you out. You must still be groggy and…”
Four’s expression turns… weird, lips pressing together and swallowing thickly.
“Want some water? It’s been nothing but rain for days-”
He leaps back as Four shoves his hand away, rolls over just enough to get his head over the side of the bed, and vomits all over the floor.
“Eauughaahhehh! Wars! Wars!” He shouts down the hall, taking a cloth from the little table next to the bed and dunking it in the water meant for the poor kid, wringing it out and wiping the smith’s face down.
The teenager is still totally out of it, mumbling disorientedly and weakly trying to shove him away.
Wars bursts into the room just as Four manages to weakly grab his hand, mumbling forcefully and weakly shoving it away.
“Sorry, kiddo, I know, I gotta get you cleaned up, though.” He says softly, soothingly, Four’s gray eyes heartbreakingly confused.
“What is it?” Wars says, helping him calm the poor kid.
“He freaking- threw up everywhere, I’ve got him, any chance you could…”
“Yeah, I got it, he alright?” Wars asks, watching him gently try to get his hand back.
“I don’t know, man, I think he’s just scared.”
Wars leaves, likely to go get something to clean the room up, and he carefully gets his hand back from Four’s ironclad grasp.
“Hyrule said you might be a little nauseous… you feeling any better after that?” He asks gently, getting a dazed blink in response.
He gently moves to the side of the bed, fingers brushing through Four’s soft hair.
The kid seems to be calmer now, no longer struggling.
Just dazed and weak and confused.
“Hey there.” He says gently, and Four’s eyes find him again. “You want anything? Food, water… bathroom?”
Four slowly shakes his head, eyes closing as he slowly relaxes.
“Still tired?” He asks softly as Wars returns, starts mopping up the floor.
A small shrug.
A tear slips down the kid’s face.
His heart sinks.
“Four, buddy…” he says softly, hand finding the smith’s shoulder. “He’s gonna be fine. We’re gonna find him.”
Another slow tear, then another.
“He’s gonna be fine.” He repeats as gently as he can, trying to get Four to look at him and failing.
“They’ll kill him.” Four whispers, voice breaking.
And the smith dissolves into sobs, not listening to a word he says.
“They’re gonna kill him they’ll kill him they have no reason to keep him alive now he’s gonna be dead-”
“Shh… no no, buddy, he’s gonna be just fine-”
Four tucks his knees to his chest, forehead touching his knees, and just sobs.
Flinches away from his touch, curling into a ball and flopping down on the bed.
Wars looks sadly at the kid, at a loss for words like him.
And all they can get out of the kid is sharp, broken sniffles as the kid hides himself away from the world with the blankets on the bed.
The captain sits on the edge of the bed, hand slowly finding the lump of blankets that’s currently their smithy.
Four slowly allows him to lay next to him, leaning his protective barrier to curl carefully into Wars’ side.
They they start coaxing answers out of their friend.
“Are you in a lot of pain, kiddo?” Wars asks softly, and Four shrugs awkwardly.
“Chest.” Four manages, blinking at the ceiling.
“Yeah… you busted your ribs, probably reaggravated them hurdling a table to kick the shit out of Time.” Wars smiles, which gets a sheepish twitch of the lips out of the smithy.
“Let’s see… your wrist was broken, though Hyrule’s sure he got that fixed up ok. The cuts all over… we weren’t able to magically heal those, we just tried to heal the worst of it. So the stab on your side was a priority, then your wrist, then your ribs…”
“Did you crack his sternum giving him CPR?” He asks without thinking, then both of their gazes snap to Four.
Four blinks. Eyes flicking from Wars to him then back to Wars.
“Bruised it, most likely.” Wars offers quietly.
Four doesn’t react.
“Think you could get your shirt off, bud?”
Four shakes his head. They leave it be.
Silence falls over them, lingering for a long couple of minutes.
“Do you know…” Wars starts finally, trailing off when he glances down to the smithy. He’s dozed off again, silently, eyes closed and breathing even.
Hand holding his, calloused skin pressing into his.
Wars sighs slowly, gently tucking a blanket over the kid and carefully sitting up.
“Sleep well, kiddo,” The captain whispers as he carefully leaves the bed.
~~~~
He wakes up slowly, groggily, stomach churning.
Slowly turns to lay on his back, and has to take a long moment to fight the urge to throw up anything in his stomach.
Once he’s sure he’s not going to vomit, he swallows carefully and grimaces at the taste in his mouth.
Maybe he had thrown up.
Upon opening his eyes, he can see Wars next to him, passed out in a chair, snoring softly, and- Time.
Sitting next to the captain, watching him intently.
He pulls his face into a scowl.
Time looks away, guilt flitting over his face.
“Four-”
He ignores the old man, slowly pushing himself to sit up. Has to pause and take a few deep breaths in order to not vomit, sitting back once he’s all the way up.
“You alright?” Time asks softly when he slowly relaxes.
“Don’t talk to me.” He mutters, the words not nearly as strong as he’d like.
Time has the audacity to flinch.
Look away for a minute, saying his name softly-
He snaps, sitting rigid again and shooting a harsh glare at the old man. “Don’t even,” he growls. “You lied to me. You promised me- you promised. And you still left him behind. He’s dead because of you.”
Time looks like he’d been slapped, but he stands and storms out of the room.
Staggers down the hall, hands clutching the wall, vision swaying and blurring and the floor sways under his feet…
Stupid blood loss. He’s dizzy and woozy and it won’t go away until he rests… but how can he when Sky…
Over the buzzing in his ears, he can hear familiar voices, soft conversation.
He staggers to follow them, down the hall, pausing at a door, listening intently, turning the handle and stumbling inside.
“Four!” Someone says, soft hands steadying him immediately.
“Hey, bud, how you feeling?” Another voice asks, and another asks if he wants anything to eat, water, a blanket, is he cold? He’s shivering, people are touching his back and his shoulders and someone’s hand touches the back of his head.
His arms reach out, finding as many of his friends as he’s able to, sinking into warm, soft arms.
“Sky.” He mumbles, eyes growing heavier and heavier.
“Shh… we’re gonna get him back, kiddo, you just rest. You’ve been brave enough already, we’ve got this one.” Someone whispers, and he thinks he manages a groggy nod.
Hands brush through his hair. His headband had been removed, leaving his hair free and in his face.
“We’re gonna get him back, bud. You just rest.” The voice says again, and he nods again. Gives a slow breath out, letting his eyes fall shut. That, he can do.
While this is a modern au, magic still exists. And while I had to tweak their backstories a bit, I’m trying to keep them, them. You know what I mean? (Apparently Zelda is a very popular name for girls)
I only have a few of their backstories worked out, since I’m less familiar with a few of them (legend and Hyrule I’m sorry I don’t know anything about the defeated timeline…. That’s a lie I know a bit)
Warriors is a war veteran who’s friends with the presidents daughter, Zelda. She eventually ran for president, and to no one’s surprise she won. Cia was an ex of his who used to be a fellow soldier. After he alerted the general of what she did to him, she’s in jail now. Later in his life he was diagnosed with npd.
Wind lived in a small fishing town, and always had a love for the ocean. He’s good at piloting boats. Winds still a kid, but he’ll tell you it dosnt matter because he used to keep the village safe from the “bad pirates” (because according to him, there are good pirates too. He is one of them)
Twilight used to be a farmer, but got caught up in some magic shit where he met Midna. Yes, he can still turn into a wolf. He was adopted by Rusl and Uli after he ran away from home at six, and he’s still haunted by the fact he left his siblings there. He’s planning on getting them back at some point.
Wild used to be a body guard for some rich guys daughter, also named Zelda. However, he got in a freak accident (I’m thinking horrible car accident but that wouldn’t exactly fit would it?) and came out of the ordeal with severe amnesia. He’s now friends with Zelda.
Sky came from a small settlement on the outskirts of Hyrule called skyloft, with almost nothing to his name and desperate for a job. He was still visits often. Sky may or may not be dating the leader of the villages daughter, Zelda (another Zelda? Who could have guessed). He used to be one of the top knights there, and would often be in charge of protecting the village. Poor guy has narcolepsy
Time grew up in the forest, as an orphan. It’s hard to say what really happened to him, as he dosnt remember, but there are some legends surrounding the forest he used to live in. Some say forest spirits used to live there, watching over the land. Some say a cult of children lived there. Some even say the forest was haunted. Either way, he was kidnapped at seven and held at the facility ever since. For some odd reason. He can speak the language you’ll often hear fairies speaking. No one’s sure why, he just thinks it’s normal. He can’t remember his name, Time was a nickname Malon gave him. He kept it because it sounded cool
Malon lost her ranch due to bankruptcy, and joined a testing facility out of desperation for cash. It seemed like the perfect job, most of the things she needed to do included physical work, and despite what some people seemed to think she’s actually quite smart. They gave her a place to stay, and good pay, and decent food. She found out what the place really was like, but it wasn’t like she could just leave.. Malon had promised to take care of that poor man she found.
I can’t think of much for four, all I know is he is infact FIVE people. Yes, you heard me correctly, four is five. Theres green, blue, red, Vio/purple, and Link
And there’s nothing for Hyrule or legend yet, feel free to submit ideas if you want to!
tell us about yunobo
why's he ur funky lil guy
id love to hear why
This is a very good ask I don’t think I’ve ever actually told anyone why I like Yunobo so much
Preemptive spoiler alert for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom by the way
(Also this turned into a bit of a character analysis on Yunobo I’m so sorry it’s so ridiculously long lmao)
Personally my favorite Zelda “race” or whatever has always been gorons, huge fellas who mine rocks and eat rocks and are rocks, just big ol walking boulders with kind souls, I think they’re very silly and cute. But I really like Yunobo because he’s not really like any of the other gorons (He’s not like other girls!!), because he’s so much more… emotional? I guess? In each of the Goron race’s appearances throughout the Zelda games they’re portrayed pretty much the same way, either tough and brave and heroic (Like Darunia, Daruk and Darmani), or chill and generally nonchalant (Like… pretty much every other goron). Though they are kind and playful, they’re also tough and unmoving as stone. Yunobo (on a surface level), is neither of these things. When you first meet him in BotW he runs and yelps in fear, and a great portion of the fan base calls him a coward because of this. He’s very unsure of himself, and unsure of a lot of things in general. In the artbook “Creating a Champion”, his description is as follows:
“Yunobo is the grandchild of the Champion Daruk. He has an adult body but still has some growing up to do. He is easily frightened by monsters and isn't exactly what one might call brave, but, driven by thoughts of protecting his people, he gathers enough courage to aid Link in quelling the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. He is earnest and naive, readily believing nearly anything anyone tells him.”
So yeah. He’s a scaredy-cat. He’s a pushover. He’s incredibly naive and a bit childish.
AND YET.
He helped save his people, and the entirety of Hyrule… TWICE. Because he is brave. Bravery is not an immediate heroic desire to face any danger for the sake of the greater good.
It is action in spite of fear.
He is afraid. He’s unsure, and he’s flighty, and he’s defensive. But he swallows these fears and chooses to act in spite of them, helping link to take back control of Vah Rudania, and saving his people. For me, seeing the journey Yunobo takes to find his courage is a lot more satisfying than if he were just already a brave go-getter from the moment you meet him.
And then things get even more interesting in the second game (again, spoilers for TotK ahead).
After he helps Link take back Vah Rudania and Calamity Ganon is defeated, Yunobo goes right to helping his people recover from the the post-calamity craziness. He’s incredibly devoted to them. He’s a helper through and through, willing to do anything it takes for the sake of others. His loyalty knows absolutely no bounds. But unfortunately, this can get the better of him.
Like when his good friend “Zelda” shows up and gives him some weird mask and tells him to put it on.
Honestly, when I saw Yunobo for the first time in TotK, I was one of the many people who was terrified that Nintendo might have made him an asshole for no reason. I mean, they gave Sidon a wife so people would stop shipping him with Link, I wouldn’t put it past them (totally backfired though lol, now they’re just a polycule).
But instead they had actually put him into one of my favorite character tropes: self-conscious but good-natured character easily susceptible to corruption (See: Luigi [SPM], Bolin [TLoK], Locksley [AS:TNC] -they’re all also green for some reason? Crazy). I really like this particular trope because it shows the very real (and frankly scary) way that those with the best intentions can most easily be led astray. As someone who’s kinda struggled with having a people-pleaser personality (incredibly susceptible to peer-pressure, neglecting my own needs over the needs of others, not able to set boundaries, etc), this trope is a relatable cautionary tale for me. Those who just want to help more often than not end up helping those with bad intentions without realizing.
Buuuuut I won’t go too far into all that (it’ll get sad fast eugh)
My main point is that Yunobo is brave, kind, and loyal (even to a fault), and for me that’s a wonderful formula for a character as nervous and dopey as him. Yeah he’s got rocks for brains, but he’s got a heart as big as a lynel’s. I don’t throw this term around liberally but I would say he could definitely count as a himbo.
Ugggghhh this is getting too long ffs. I’ll just list a couple more reasons why he’s important to me specifically.
He is… very large. Ahem. I like big fellas. You know how it is. ANYWAY
He’s a bit dopey but he’s definitely not incompetent. He’s the president of a highly successful mining company and he’s helped save Goron City (and the entirety of Hyrule) TWICE. That’s pretty cool. I’ve seen a lot of people shit on him in the first game for “always getting spotted by the drones” but like. Dude that’s your fault. He told you he would come when called and stop when told to, it’s on you if he walks into a searchlight.
He’s got very intriguing lore (to me at least), that leaves a lot of room for speculation. Like, he’s the “grandson” of Daruk, but how does that work?? Gorons are born from the mountain itself, they don’t give birth. There’s a pair of Gorons in TotK that call themselves “brothers” (still a bit confusing since most gorons throughout the series call each other brother anyway), but they explain it was because they were born in the same cave at the same time, so they’re like family. Does this mean Yunobo was just born in the same cave Daruk was, and therefore inherited his “genes” and his magical abilities? Maybe! Maybe it’s a really cool special cave, right at the summit or something, where his whole lineage was born all the way back to the first sage of fire. Cool stuff to think about!
He’s not the leader of his people, in either game. That job belongs to Bludo. In the second game he’s definitely got a lot more influence and does occupy a position of leadership, but he’s not the chief. He’s just some Goron. The role of aiding link in both games is thrust onto him entirely because of his lineage. But he takes responsibility for it. He understands the power he holds, both as a champion’s descendant and as the Sage of Fire, and he steps up to the role. He feels a responsibility to his people and his city, even despite not being its official leader like the other champion’s descendants. That’s pretty cool.
He’s very sweet! I’ve talked about how kind and caring he is already but there’s a difference between doing it with a stoic sense of heroism or duty, and doing it with a big dopey grin and a genuine care for those he cares about. He’s often unsure and self-conscious, and yet he’s surprisingly optimistic about most things a lot of the time. He has a big smile (most gorons do), but he has an absolutely heart-melting laugh. I often tear up during the cutscene in which he sees the spirit of Daruk reclaiming Vah Rudania, him laughing and waving with such genuine joy and excitement, aghhhh it’s too much. Joe Hernandez certainly did a great job putting authenticity into Yunobo’s (and Daruk’s) emotions, this cutscene especially.
He has the best secret stone ability (gameplay wise). You cannot change my mind. Tulin is great for mobility and the other two are fine for tactical combat stuff, but none of them even come close to the versatility and power of Yunobo. Don’t have any good rock-breaking weapons and don’t want to use up bombs or zonai devices? Yunobo! Using a control stick-operated machine and can’t pull out your bow to snipe that pesky aerocuda? Yunobo! Wanna separate a big group of enemies from each other without wasting bombs? Yunobo! And don’t even get me started on the fact that when he’s on a vehicle, he’s got zero cooldown. You can hop on a hoverboard and decimate a molduga just by dribbling Yunobo on its head like a basketball.
All this being said I certainly think Yunobo is too often overlooked by fans for “being a coward”, or just… being a Goron? Gorons in general have often been a bit neglected in favor of the other more serious, conventionally attractive and *cough* slimmer *cough* Zelda races. It’s a bit disheartening seeing the amount of fan artists who don’t even have a clue how to approach drawing Yunobo or Daruk, simply because they don’t know how to draw bulky, fat or muscled characters. But I won’t preach too much on the subject, haha.
Long story short, I love Yunobo a whole lot and I’d love to give him a big hug and a smooch. That’s about it :))))
Also here’s a little sketch I made of him as a bonus for reading all that haha
YOUR SKY AND PIPIT COMIC MADE ME CRY
PIPIT NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION🫡
Best SS side character ong
HAPPY TEARS I HOPE???
But yeah! Pipit’s a favorite of mine haha! In my opinion, he’s the most interesting side character on Skyloft! By far! (Groose isn’t on Skyloft anymore so he doesn’t count!) He’s also one of the most underrated characters in any Zelda game.
• He’s an upperclassman at the Academy who actively stands up for Fledge and Link against Groose.
• He’s SO SUPPORTIVE. Every time you talk to him, he has something encouraging to say. He genuinely really cares about Link and Zelda and is one of the few people who believes in Link.
• He’s the only student at the Knight Academy who doesn’t live in a dorm.
• He lives at home, but you never see him there.
• The Worst Mother on Skyloft Award goes to Mallara! (Pipit’s mom). The reason Pipit’s never at home is because his home is a mess and his mother is the WORST.
• Mallara has really nice furniture and ceramics and stuff but it’s all messy. Pipit’s corner of the house is the only clean area, but his furniture is all worn down and scratched up. His blanket is patched. Everything he has is well used and mended.
• I kind of view that as a metaphor: Mallara has nice things but doesn’t care about them enough to take good care of them. She has an amazing son but doesn’t care enough about him to take care of him. Meanwhile, Pipit uses what he has, even if he doesn’t have much.
• ALSO he’s struggling financially. When you clean Mallara’s house, she gives you twenty rupees and tells you to say hello to Pipit for her. (There’s a reason she doesn’t say hello herself. There’s a reason Pipit doesn’t talk to her).
• If you clean her house enough times and then walk by it at night, you’ll hear Pipit yelling at her. I don’t know the exact quotes but he said something along the lines of “I gave you that money to buy bread and you spent it on a housekeeper! If you keep this up, I won’t be able to afford to go to the Academy next year!”
• Bro’s a full time student and also works the night watches at the Academy just to have the money to put food on the table and put himself through school. He gives some of this money to Mallara and she IMMEDIATELY turns around and spends it on Link.
• THAT’S A WHOLE OTHER THING. Mallara pays Link to clean her house because she’s too lazy to do it herself. She tells him to talk to Pipit because she’s too lazy to do it herself. She expects Link to be her housekeeper and her messenger because she’s not willing to put the work in and do the bare minimum for her home or for her son.
• This whole time I’ve been calling it her house. But the game calls it Pipit’s house. PLEASE did he buy the house too?? So that his mother could destroy it?? Crying.
• He has the sweetest little crush on Karane and the game gives you the option to tease him for it! I will always give the letter to Karane because it makes me happy to see him happy. He deserves it! “You like her?” Such a little brother response.
• He literally says something along the lines of “don’t I deserve to know true love?” about Karane. Like. This guy’s never experienced genuine love in his life. His mother sure isn’t giving it to him.
• Link and Pipit are 100% brothers and I’m writing a whole fic about how Link was adopted into that problematic family and what that means for Mallara and Pipit. Suffice to say, Link and Pip are quite close! For my au, Pipit is the first person to really and truly understand Sky since he knows Link so well (literally grew up in the same house) but also knows Aepon! (Took care of the Loftwing while Link was away on his adventure). In many cases, he understands Sky better than Zelda does. Better than Sky knows himself! There will definitely be more Pipit content from me because he DESERVES SOME LOVE.
the champions shouldn't come back
I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that the Champions should come back to life in TOTK, and can I just say please no. This isn’t even about shipping, I don’t give a fuck about that right now, this is about narrative.
Breath of the Wild is a story about grief. Hyrule is a grave and each ruin is a tomb. Zelda is holding the Calamity back from adding to the body count and Link is the only one who can help her stop him for good. To do that, he needs to help the kingdom move on from its death a hundred years ago. He needs to free the Champions’ spirits from the Divine Beasts and destroy Ganon and save Zelda.
Based on how the map is laid out once you get the Sheikah Slate repaired, Vah Ruta is first. It’s closes to Kakariko/Hateno and the enemies are the easiest. The game tries to subtly funnel you in that direction with the random Zora laid out in the area, searching for Hylians for Prince Sidon, and there’s a reason for that, narratively.
(or there isn’t and I’m reaching, but bear with me)
Mipha was Link’s childhood friend. She (and Zora’s Domain as a location) is the representation of his youth and the child he was before he pulled the Master Sword. She’s his innocence, ripped away by the sword a hundred years ago and handed back to him by the Shrine of Resurrection a hundred years later, even though he doesn’t remember. It’s how he rediscovers his lost innocence, through Muzu being pissed at him and Sidon hiding his sadness, an innocence which he loses again once he frees Mipha’s spirit from Vah Ruta.
She tells him, “Yesterday, I was awash in a pool of tears. I had nearly given up hope and resigned myself to being trapped here, as a spirit, for the rest of eternity. But now you’re here”. In this moment Link faces the reality of what the Champions being dead means. He’s been told by everyone that they’re prisoners, unable to move on, but now he’s seeing it for the first time, hearing in Mipha’s voice the pain of what these hundred years have been. He knows now that he really is the light, our light, that must shine upon Hyrule once again and that if he wants to remember more, he needs to go free the next Divine Beast.
In freeing Mipha, Link gets hope in the form of her Grace.
The game tries to funnel you to Vah Rudania next. There’s a very easy path from the Domain to Death Mountain, with the stable where you get the heatproof elixirs close by. Goron City is the Okay, I know what’s really going on, now what? of the game. Daruk was Link’s rock (pun not intended but it’s true), a grounding presence, the person that keeps him himself once he’s saddled with the burden of being the Hero of Hyrule.
He calls Link to Death Mountain in the memories to show off his progress with Rudania, yeah, but also to have, like, guy talk. He mentions “all those delectable rocks” and then reminds Link that he’s not alone in protecting Hyrule, that, “I’ll protect this land of ours to the death!”. He’s reassuring Link that he’s got his back and then literally does when those rocks fall and he uses his Protection.
Daruk gives him that Protection once he’s freed from Rudania, that encouraging smack on the back that says, Go get him for us.
Then there’s Revali and Vah Medoh. Revali was a jerk to Link, and sure he’s jealous that Link is The Hero, that the Master Sword is arguably the most important piece of the “killing the Calamity” plan, and that all he’s going to be is glorified backup, but the point of Revali is that he keeps Link on the ball.
By that, I mean that Link’s little rivalry with Revali (whether or not he actually sees their relationship as such) is akin to, like, a sports team. There’s always that one person you don’t necessarily get along with, but you know you can count on them to push you to be your best and be there to pick up the slack whenever you stumble. Rito Village is home to Teba’s pride and the spirit of Revali’s arrogance lives within his landing, and Link is able to remember that one time Revali made fun of him for not being able to fly, how that eggs him on to find a way up to Vah Medoh in the present just to rub it in the archer’s face (at least, that's how I felt when I first played the game). There’s a method to Revali’s madness and it’s to make sure Link is in tip-top shape if he’s supposed to be the one to save the world.
Revali then literally uplifts Link with his Gale after he has control of Medoh again.
Finally, we have Urbosa. Like Daruk, she was a reassuring presence, but not in the sense of, I’m your shield, I’ll be watching your back. She’s comforting in the way having five 100+ damage Lynel weapons in your inventory is comforting. She’s reassuring in the sense of, I’m your sword, I’ll be next to you on the front lines. She reminds Link that despite his youth and the burden of the sword on his spine, that he has a duty to protect Zelda, and that by protecting Zelda he is protecting Hyrule.
She’s not forcing him into the role, but she’s keeping him on track whereas Daruk allows him to stray for the sake of his mental health/childhood. She’s saying, Be a child for as long as you can, but also be the Hero. It’s why she tells him to open up to Zelda, so he can have a friend his age that he can be around 24/7, so he can have someone to relate to (and so that Zelda can, too). Urbosa is the representation of Link’s duty and his relationship with Zelda (whether platonic or romantic, I don’t care in this context), and how that relationship with Zelda turns into Zelda finally unlocking her powers on Blatchery Plain. Without Urbosa’s presence, Link isn’t in the right headspace to even be the Hero.
Now that Link knows exactly what he’s lost a hundred years ago, and what he’s then regained during his quest, he can take her Fury and use it as a conduit for his own.
Link starts Breath of the Wild a blank slate tasked with saving the world. Throughout his quest, he remembers his lost childhood, but regains that little spark of hope, that thought of, I can do this. He remembers that he wasn’t alone in his task, that there were other people right there with him, and that it was the actions of a monster that took them all away from him, not the unheard prayers of the princess he was sworn to protect and then came to genuinely care for. He learns that there’s nothing he can do to change the past, that all he can do is let his dead friends move on and do his best to do the same.
It’s why he takes their weapons. It’s why he buys the house in Hateno. It’s why he furnishes it. It’s why he builds Tarrey Town. He accepts that his old friends are gone and that the best thing he can do for them is make new ones with the people who helped him free them. In dealing with his past, in accepting it, Link sets up his future for after the dust settles.
TLDR: To bring the Champions back to life in Tears of the Kingdom is to ignore all of the progress we as players made in Breath of the Wild, it ignores the point of the story the game is telling, and it does a disservice to the character arc that Link has over the course of the game.
What if the LU guys get cursed into beings of endless agony. What then. Idk, I’m kicking and screaming to not get back into my creepypasta phase(I don’t think it’s working) and I finally watched a few mlp infection aus(basically zombie aus). I got inspired. Please ignore the crappy names I gave them, I just felt like I needed to put something there. The colors are also off(I didn’t even properly color Marin, I just blocked out the shapes). I got lore for them ig and reason for why. Yeag
So it’s like an au where the black blood can like, infect people, specifically the Links. Marin, the Dream Granter, comes from Legend’s infection. He gets trapped in a twisted version of Koholint with that thing chasing him around. He has to wake himself up by speed running getting all the instruments and waking the Wind Fish all over again. All the while plant-based body horror is happening to his actual body. Plant-based body horror actually freaks me out so bad, so I can’t draw that hah. But he will free himself in the end and will be coughing up various plant things for weeks. He’s overall fine physically in the end 👍
Warriors is the smallest one I drew, Heroic Face. He’s actually coated in black blood, and crying it out. Eyeless Jack looking mf lamo. He hostile to everyone, but can eventually be talked back into reality. The Links cannot fight him, he’s used to fighting many enemies at once. He keeps mumbling about not being an actual hero, about the war, about how different he is compared to the other Links. So, they enlist in the power of friendship to help snap him out of it. Of course, that’s not all they have to do, they also then need to beat him into next Tuesday. Wars will still be fighting them, he can’t control that, but he will hold himself back for a moments, letting them get a few hits in. At the end, he’s better mentally over all. Physically, he won’t really be able to move much for a while.
Idk how Ravio would work tbh, maybe even after being infected he would act like his usual self for a while. But over time, he’d get more and more aggressive, hating things that bare any sort of resemblance to him. Of course that mean he would eventually go after Legend and the other Links as well. I’d image there is a giant maw under his bunny head, he would try to bite his friends and also just try to attack them any way he can. They have to smash the mirror to finish the first phase, after that he’ll be inconsolable, unable to be reasoned with at all. Before that he’s more aware of what he’s doing, but can’t really stop himself too much. It’s like the opposite of Warriors fight. They still need to beat him into next Tuesday. He’s doing terrible at the end, physically AND mentally. Though being technically a Link, huh.
I’m also thinking of it infecting the Zelda’s as well, but idk yet. Idk if I’ll continue this. Tell me if you want more ig lol.
I just found your zelda au and I wanma share mine!!! I have a separate blog for it but basically; its Breath of the wild with Luffy as Zelda and Nami as Link.
(Zoro is the power piece)
And they're the first of the Triforce trio to not be on opposing sides.
I LOVE this idea.
Please drop the link. I want to read it.
I love aus where the triforce wielders are actually friends. They make my heart so warm!
Zoro fits power so well to. His goal to be the strongest swordsman, but he’s so protective of those he cares for. I can just see how nervous everyone is when he comes into the scene because the only power wielder in history is Ganondorf and he’s well….Ganon. But Zoro wants power not for the sake of it, but to keep his promises and protect those around him.
Luffy being Zelda is so fun as the wielder of Wisdom. Because I don’t think a lot of people look at his character and think WISE. And on the surface he’s not. He’s silly and goofy and has a one track mind most of the time. But he’s also kind. He has a high emotional intelligence where he knows what people need and who needs him. He’s also able to identify the biggest threats on the battlefield and know that he has to beat them to keep the crew safe. (They even point this out at the end of water 7)
Plus this puts Luffy in a Prince role. It’s his JOB to protect his people and he’s doing everything he can. But as you know BOTW it’s just not enough. There are restrictions that stop him from being able to fight or learn the way he wants/needs to. He’s forced into a role/power he just can’t make work. (Until it’s to late)
Now all I want to know is
Who are the champions?
Who is the king? (Who tells Luffy he is “the heir to a throne of nothing. Nothing but failure.” Come on I just want to know)
Are you doing this with the 100 year time skip? Are there going to be the past champions and their descendants? Or are we doing more of an AOC style where they win the first time around? (They have Zoro which is a BIG factor that Link and Zelda don’t have in the first go around
Also Nami as Link. I love this. Nami as the wielder of courage when she is known as one of the cowardly trio. Because Nami is brave. She stands up for what she believes in. She defends her crew and her village and never runs when they need her. It will be so interesting to see her in the role of the hero.
Again I don’t know if you’re going to do the time skip. But Nami losing her memories and having to relearn the world. Her skills as a fighter and navigator have to be reclaimed along with her memories of Luffy and Zoro. I can just imagine she gets one of the silly memories first and is like ‘really…these guys? I’m suppose to save the world with these two?’ But as she remembers more she sees why they were friends and how amazing Luffy and Zoro are. How people looked down on Luffy for struggling to Unlock his powers and how they looked at Zoro in fear because of his role as wielder of Power. How they were just kids their the weight of the world on their shoulders and everyone expected them to win but barley helped them to do so. (BOTW divers me crazy)
Please share more. I’m losing my mind on the premise alone.
LU Avatar AU
I was planning on writing an Avatar AU with a short snippet about each Link and how they felt about bending each element. (Set in Hyrule, but people can bend the elements and the hero is the avatar, who can bend all four elements.)
I decided I didn't like the idea enough to devote anymore time to it, but you guys can have what I've finished
~~~
To Wild, airbending is as instinctual and effortless as breathing. Even more so, perhaps. Zelda had told him she couldn’t recall what element he had been born into. He was sure that if she did remember, she would tell him that he'd been born under the watchful gaze of the air spirits.
He was constantly airbending, so much so that his feet floated more than they touched the solid ground.
He floats in his sleep sometimes. The other avatars don’t mention it, but he knows they’re baffled by it. Everyone always is, when he sleeps somewhere someone will see him.
Wild- and everyone else- had assumed it was an avatar thing, to be able to control the elements even when you were unconscious. But none of the other avatars could bend while they were asleep.
~~~
Wild can barely move pebbles when he tries to earthbend. Zelda says that it’s because he’s a free spirit and doesn’t like to be grounded, but Wild doubts that. Hyrule didn’t seem to have any issue with earth bending, and he was as much of a free spirit as Wild was.
And it’s not like Wild doesn’t try. He does. He trains daily, even if it’s just for a short while. He knows how important earth bending is. But no matter how hard he tried, the solid rock beneath his feet never wanted to move for him.
~~~
When Wild firebends, he dances.
When he woke from the shine, all his bending masters were dead and he had no one to teach him. So he taught himself, using scraps of memories of the champions’ lessons and his own accidental discoveries. That led to some of his bending styles being a bit unique, fire bending most of all. The closest he’s ever seen was the fire dances that the Gerudo did sometimes, in the privacy of their town.
But he’s never seen anyone dance like that during combat, not like he does.
He supposes it doesn’t matter. As long as he’s as deadly with his flames as anyone else, and he is.
~~~
Wild has a hard time waterbending too. He’s better at it than earthbending- at least he could move water around. But it’s never fast, and it's never forceful, so his waterbending is all but useless in combat. This, Wild thinks, is mostly his fault. He could force the water to be more deadly if he tried harder. It’s not like earth bending, where he tries but doesn’t succeed.
Water is a free element. It goes where it wants, when it wants to, and frankly, he’s loath to make it do anything it doesn’t want to. So he never tries very hard to bend it to his will.
~~~
Four had kept the gift quiet, even in his own era. He hadn’t planned on telling the other avatars at all, but he would need something even more precise than his smithing to try and forge an unbreakable sword for the champion.
Metal bending was an extremely rare gift, even for an avatar, and he didn’t like the attention it brought to him when people knew. He was getting that attention now, whether he liked it or not. He could feel the other avatars’ gaze on him. He swore Wind’s star-filled admiring eyes were burning a hole into his back.
He ignored them, focusing all his attention on the metal floating in front of him, slowly taking the form of a sword.
~~~
Wind was born a water bender, as most Hylians on the Great Sea were. He’d never felt more at home than he did when he was standing on the seashore, listening to the waves and feeling the water lap at his bare feet.
There was a comfort in it, knowing the sea would never hurt him. Could never hurt him, even if it tried.
A Touch Of Magic [Legend Of Zelda: Breath of The Wild]
Tumblr media
Link x Reader [Gender Neutral]
C|TW: none
Tumblr media
So, you have magical abilities? What exactly can you do, is it something that drains your energy to the point of passing out? No, so you’ve mastered your craft completely and can use it without hurting yourself or others? Are you able to defeat Lynels and active guardians without needing any assistance? How many enemies are you able to face alone before you need help, is it somewhere around six or twenty?
These are the questions Link asks when you mention your magical abilities. It’s not to belittle you or make you feel foolish, he’s genuinely interested and wants to know if you’ll be safe fighting alongside him. It’d be dumb of him to blindly drag you into battle without knowing your limits or how your magic works. That’s why he’s going to ask you a million questions or want you to demonstrate your abilities. He just needs to know that you’ve perfected your craft before he consciously puts you in danger.
What is your ability? That’s up to you, it could be advanced healing, matter manipulation, inhuman strength & agility, glyph-style magic, elemental control, etc. Link won’t care as long as you’re able to defend yourself and fight without needing him to babysit you. That’ll only endanger you both and slow down his progress.
He can admit that he’s a little excited or happy, having you by his side. Since he was originally supposed to fight with his friends it’s nice to have a little team again, even if it’s just the both of you. Though, there is a tiny bit of fear in the back of his mind because what if you get killed too? Revali, Urbosa, Daruk, and Mipha were strong as well, but Ganon managed to defeat them. Hell, if it wasn’t for Zelda he’d be dead. What if history repeats itself? Nonetheless, Link’s not going to let those worries get in the way of your decision to go into battle. It’s your choice, you’re more than ready, and you’re capable, so he’ll just work hard to ensure the both of you come back alive.
Never, get in between Link and his opponent! He’s not used to fighting with you so your moves aren’t coordinated in the slightest. Unless the two of you have worked to create power moves or formations you’d only be getting in each other’s way. Link would be annoyed if he ends up having to dodge your attacks during a battle. Especially since it puts him in danger considering you’re either just as strong as him or far more powerful depending on your abilities. So please don’t send any unexpected attacks toward him. It’s different if he’s gravely injured or suffering the effects of heatstroke but unless you guys planned it, don’t do it.
As he stops to complete the shrines all he asks is that you don’t wander too far without letting him know. He doesn’t care if you explore the area and get to know the people, or if you gather material the two of you may need. However, if you’re in the Akkala region he doesn’t want to come out of the shrine and learn that you left to visit Lurelin for porgy fish, courtesy of a shopkeeper. Let him know beforehand so he isn’t thinking you’ve been taken by the Yiga clan or something. You may be more than capable of protecting yourself but he’s still going to worry about you.
While your company is more than appreciated, Link is not reliant on your abilities in the slightest. He doesn’t grow dependent or expect you to stick around the entire time. You’re more than welcome to tell him when you’ve had enough or wish to return home, he won’t mind. At the end of the day, he’s the one that has to defeat Ganon, not you. Link isn’t going to force you to get him to his destination, even if your magic is extremely useful. So never feel like you have to keep going, he’ll get you back home safely when you’ve reached your limit. Even if you just don’t want to fight anymore out of boredom or just had your fill, you don’t need a reason to tell him you’re done.
🏛️CREEPYPASTAS AS GREEK MYTHOLOGY FIGURES💯
I’m not actually sure if someone has done this before but I was js having a brainrot and got this idea tbh, should this have stayed in the drafts? maybe💀, but I really wanna hear others thoughts and opinions on it cause AGHH. I eat up AU content so I thought I’d try making my own even if it’s flops. Most of this is up for interpretation cause I had WAYYY too many ideas/alternates for these.
Okay here we go yap time
(No no you can’t tell who’s my favorite….)
No warnings!!
Ben-HERMES 🪽
For Ben I was really thinking of someone leaning more on the playful/mischievous side cause i feel that’s a huge part of most people’s headcanons for him (including mine).
I thought who better than Hermes cause if ur a fan of EPIC (Circe saga specifically 🤓☝️) I felt that Jorge Rivera really protrayed Hermes with a playful/childish demeanor and even if was helping Odysseus he was like “yeah ur probs gonna die anyway bud” and it kinda resonates with Ben cause he’s just in it for shits n giggles tbh.
Being the god of messages I feel like Ben would have a lot of fun spreading misinformation around the mansion (or wherever if the mansions not ur thing 😔).
Also in a way I feel like it’s the same thing with his powers and tech savvy skills. I remember seeing a few people on here hc his job was security cams and stuff so he knows the shit you’re up to😰
Yk wether it’s sending emails under rando accounts or discord messages about his latest obsession he’s not afraid to SEND👏THAT👏MESSAGE👏
In general I feel like one could argue he’s unfiltered tbh
ALSO ALSO flying shoes = floating ghost 🤔
I feel Ben could definitely be capable of showing empathy/giving help to heroes in need and stuff but overall he’d just prefer to get into mischief and do things for his own benefit.
He brings a lot to the table! (that is if you can clear off the Pokémon cards and Zelda figurines)
For example, if there was a mansion in this au (the world they live in is up for interpretation cause I love the idea of Ancient Greece but I’m loyal to the cringe mansion I love dearly 😔)
Teleportation comes in handy for when slender decided to give out hand-written letters that come with Cheeto dust fingerprints(Ben swears they were there before) (they were guys dw bout it…)
Something else I’ve seen on here is that he’d float to make himself taller and i will take this to the grave idc if i die on this hill.
SUPPOSE they had outfits and he had to be pried off the hot topic isles and link getup. I genuinely do not think he’d fw the sandals im sorry 😔. He’d slap something else on and call it a day. Or maybe not tbh..he’d think they’re cool.
I feel like outside of this AU he’s a bit of a chatterbox so..IN this AU he’d probably use deliveries as a way to talk the ear off and bother hang with his friends and fellow Creepypastas.
Anyways, in summary Ben can impish and irresponsible but he’s a master of his craft and if there does end up being heroes to guide he wouldn’t hesitate to…interfere.
“You want to beat her? You’ll need the blessing of a certain god, divine intervention, someone who’s not afraid to..send a message”
Nina-CALYPSO🐚
Nina my beloved scene girl this one’s for you
First order of business shout out to @jeffthekillerzblog and his au about Ben, Jeff and Nina’s arcs I love them sm. The whole idea of her getting over Jeff and sort of becoming her own person without him is awesome and I can definitely see it in my au too.♥️♥️
I chose Calyspo because when met with Odysseus she was instantly head over heels, turning into a kind of obsession and yearning for company😔👏(yeah same)
I think Calypso’s whole idea of “I love you and I think I’ll die without it” resonates with what Nina used to be with Jeff and her need for his affection.
Although I don’t really think Nina would necessarily keep a partner as a hostage on an island I think she tends to feed into that kind of delusion of a healthy relationship when desperate for attention
In terms of style and aesthetics Calypso and Nina are pretty much opposite (Nina scene style I am loyal to you) however in this au I’d think she’d wear a lot of pink layered robes and fun jewelry. I like to keep style up for interpretation just cause it’s fun.
Ultimately Calypso does do the right thing and lets Odysseus go,(with pushing from Ben Hermes) I do think at heart Nina knows it isn’t right but she still longs for love.
It gets lonely on an island okay?🤨
“Tell me though, who’s Penelope?”
“She’s my wife…”
“…”
“Anyways! I’ve got all you could want here, all you could need here..just you and me my dear, my love for life!”
EJ-HADES🪦🥀
ALRIGHT. Here’s the thing, at first I wanted to choose Slenderman for this because it just felt right. However I wanted to choose Ej instead because I took into account the storyline with Persephone. (Also with Jeff and smile dogs friendship I was thinking him too cause smile dog could be his Cerberus ugh😔)
From my interpretation of others HCS and mine I definitely see Ej as a lone wolf so what better place to be dark and ominous than the underworld itself?
Dramatically staring out into a sea of souls while Chappell Roan , Radiohead plays in the background/j
I do think Ej would enjoy the isolation and in my hc he’d rather hide away from the others because of his demonic nature, and nobody there to pester him (besides Ben with his emails of course).
Anyway, going back onto the Persephone storyline because it was a dealbreaker between Slender and Ej.
I thought about which one would really want to seek love. In past HCS of slender I’ve seen that he is in fact capable of caring (if ur a fan of the mansion and believing he collects traumatized children like Pokémon or infinity stones) .
So, let’s say Slender is actually capable of caring, would he really wanna go seek love? I kinda see him as a single dad but I’ve debated it tbh. For now I’m just going with single dad who’s not interested in romance but rather power.
So that left me with Ej, I think Ej still has some human in him. Whatever was left behind after his transformation/sacrifice made him yearn for company even being ruler of death. (He’s got Cerberus aka smile dog 🤷‍♀️maybe a couple skeletons idk)
Anywho if he did happen to stumble upon Persephone, rather than kidnapping her pissing her mom off I think he’d be too scared to approach her 😭
In the sense that he wouldn’t want to scare her with his appearance even with the mask.
Maybe his Persephone is a kidney? Who knows 😔
“If I became the monster and threw that guilt away would that make us stronger?”
JANE-ATHENA🦉📖
I’ve been waiting for this I’m about to go crazy
Athena, warrior and goddess of wisdom, not to mention hella creative.
I feel like this matches with Jane’s sense of responsibility and maturity. In my hc Jane is a STROOOONG WOMAN😍😍🤤. I also saw someone on here saw she does poetry and I couldn’t agree more
Athena,who has no husband—oh look at that Jane doesn’t either she’s happily married to Mary(idc if Athena doesn’t marry. THIS one did.)
Aura if I’ve ever seen it
COOL WEAPONS COOL WEAPONS and armor tbh. Feminine robes and the usual Athena getup.
If you’ve listened to God Games then I don’t need to speak any further on how driven she is too succeed, “bring it” attitude.
I think it’s nice how Athena and Ares rivalry can be intertwined with Jane and Jeff’s backstory, despite Jane having coming to terms with it she still has sought vengeance.
Much like Athena in the Arachne story tbh
Independent fr fr, def wants to protect her wife from any other gods but also doesn’t worry about anyone messing with her.
I see her as a really good leader tbh
Wise tree af, knows you better than you know yourself and WILL use it against you if you piss her off.
Outsmarts people for breakfast.
In terms of Odysseus I think she’d def get annoyed with him but because shes got more important things to worry about she sticks with him.
“Goddess of wisdom, master of war, my life has one mission…create the greatest warrior.”
Jeff-ARES
Alright. God of war you know where this is going. Major anger issues but he’s sm more than that guys trust pls it’s just for the plot guys pls come back where are you going—
Angry ANGRY guy that’s why I chose him
Also I get major fire nation zuko vibes from him..NOT just cause he was burned I swear on my life
Anyway, if you’re lucky enough to not die and finally see past the blood thirst you’d see a whooooole lot of angsty regrets and if you peel it back a little more he’s bi
Fighting the demons daily
All those battles go straight to the head and probably boost his ego (FAKE FAKE FAKE) to no end.
I interpret ares as arrogant, brutal, and egocentric but I think a good arc for Jeff would to be to try and change that (maybe even heal some burned bridges with Jane, and his brother, who knows??)
He’s trying I swear
Ben def hangs with him and try’s to make him turn a new leaf and leave his asshole ways. (Even if he isn’t the best influence)
Quite literally insane idk what to tell you
Still love him though he’s a new guy I swear ignore the blood on him that’s normal you’re crazy.
“What kind of sick coward holds back his power while his friends get devoured? He didn’t even fight Scylla…didn’t even try to kill her.!”
Aaaaaand the crowd goes wild. Unfortunately those are all the characters I have inspo for rn but I hope more will come to me!! Also I wish I could have found a better quote for Jeff but oh well. All of these quotes are from EPIC/god games by Jorge Rivera-Herrans!! :). Honestly kind of scary to think of a mansion in this au it wouldn’t last 8 seconds. Would Ej technically live in the basement?? I’d love to hear others thoughts on this cause why not just add ☝️
Happy summer ya’ll☀️☀️☀️
I think I’m coming down with a cold again and possibly have a fever but I’m here to scream about the update some more anyway! (and analyze a bit but mostly scream). Dawn part 7 here we go!
(All images belong to @linkeduniverse <3)
Tumblr media
First off I have to say this was my favorite panel I think, it’s so pretty. The faint glow! The colors! The cape over his shoulder! Amazing. This truly was Sky’s update, I loved every bit of focus he got. Jojo fed us well :D
Tumblr media
So it looks like I was wrong about Sky reading everyone’s mail. He just immediately took off after the mailman instead (and spent all morning chasing him ha!),
Side note but I love the npc guy. He’s simple but still Zelda-y. the character design in this comic is just👌
Tumblr media
Looks like the mailman has a list of who he’s supposed to deliver to, or at least that’s my guess. It could be a map maybe, but that probably wouldn’t do much good since he’s time traveling?? How does he do it. Don’t question the magic of the postman I guess.
Tumblr media
*green hill zone music intensifies*
Tumblr media
Shoutout to Sky’s face here, I make the same expression when I’m trying to chase after my nephew and stop him from eating crayons
Tumblr media
This looks like a postcard no joke, I'd frame this and put it on my wall. Plus the way the trees were done in the background is really neat, there’s something just really pleasing about this panel. Also the return of Sky: Just Standing There
Tumblr media
They’re all bein silly <3
...except for Four. Because I think him and Warriors both realize that Sky isn’t just telling them what he was doing all morning— he’s got something important to say, something they all actually need to know.
Tumblr media
(Downfall duo laughing together I love them)
Also I agree with everyone saying Warriors is close to snapping— they’ve all had a pretty stressful 24 hours, but Warriors has been breaking up arguments and repeatedly checking on everyone while they’re struggling, and... I don’t think he’s had a break. Take a nap bud, please?
Tumblr media
SKY TALKING TO FI MY BELOVED he's hoping there’s enough of her aware to help him dowse hhhhh. And then he’s so sad she didn’t seem to hear him waahhh 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn’t look to me like she truly helped much, but maybe Fi gave just enough of a nudge for Sky to find the postman’s footprints? Even in her sleep? She is glowing just a bit there... Interesting to think about.
Tumblr media
It’s confirmed that the postman uses the portals! And that the Shadow is alive and kicking! Uh-oh! (Also does anyone else think this one seems more... firey? Then the last one? Maybe it's just me).
And the chopped-off darknut head is still there too.... and I’ll bet you twenty rupees somebody is going to kick it when the Links go through the portal later. (My guess is Wild but I’d put my money on Legend or Wind too).
I’m also really curious where that portal leads... My guess is either Twilight’s Hyrule or Sky’s, based on what hints we’ve been getting, but I really don’t know. It’ll be fun to see!
Tumblr media
*Wind rapidly thinking of at least three conspiracy theories*: SUS
Also an amazing expression from him I’m laughing so hard, he really said 3:<
Tumblr media
Tag yourself I’m Four
Also Sky just chugging away at the stamina potion, poor guy XD he must be beat from all that running around, I hope he has some more time to sit before the Links get moving.
(And I mentioned this in another post, but Legend looks so alarmed at this information, as does Wild... it’s not going to be pretty when they cross paths with the Shadow again, that’s for sure)
Tumblr media
I love when Time breaks out the dramatic language... makes me remember that this guy is going to be the Hero’s Shade someday (who’s speech is 99% dramatic things).
Now the Links just have to decide what to do next... will they stay another day at the inn for Twilight’s sake, or get moving right away? Is Four going to confront Twilight about the dark magic he uses to turn into Wolfie?
So many questions... but in the meantime I will gladly continue to reread this amazing update, I really loved this one :D
I’m getting really sick of people saying Link shouldn’t talk for a Zelda movie. Especially since it’s made clear in the games that he DOES talk. He isn’t a mute, his muteness is a limitation of the game design. Example A:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here you can very clearly see that Link is talking to people and telling them of the events that took place. The game doesn’t give him a text box or dialogue because all it’s doing is reiterating what YOU the player JUST DID. It would be redundant. So he does a little gesture animation and the people he’s talking to react appropriately.
I mean, if we used the same animation shortcuts and logic that people use to say Link is a mute, then does that mean whenever Link reaches into his pockets and doesn’t explicitly hold out the exact item that characters are looking for he’s being a jerk? No, of course not. He’s not holding out nothing. He’s handing the object to the NPC. The reason it’s not shown is because It’s a programming trick save, nothing more.
And Link does have a voice. He emits vocals all the time whenever he attacks things, jumps, gets hit, hurt, sleepy, etc. He makes all the same sorts of goofy sound effects that Mario makes in the Mario games. He HAS a voice.
Furthermore if you read Zelda’s journals you’ll find that she was able to get him to open up and speak to her about his fears and trepidations. It’s canon IN THE GAME that he talks!
It’s fine if you wanna head-canon him as a mute, that’s fine. Do whatever you want with that. But when it comes to a movie, the protagonist needs to talk. And we don’t have to restrict it to the gameplay voice either. Look at the Mario movie.
Everyone laughed when Chris Pratt was chosen to do his voice and they all threw up their arms in anger that he wasn’t going to do an accent… and what happened? We got a perfectly normal sounding character for a perfectly normal voice. They even tossed in a few nods here and there to his Italian voice. But the bottom line? It was a big deal over nothing.
And if your fear of Link having a voice is out of the Zelda cartoon or those god awful CDI games from 30-fucking-years-ago then I strongly suggest you need to move on. Hell, fans fear of Link having the voice of the cartoon has become such a meme at this point that they’ve almost certainly ensured that if a Zelda movies does get made at some point in the film they will make a “excuse me, Princess!” joke.
That’s on the FANS for once again making a mountain out of a molehill.
Bottom line, in my opinion, Link should talk for a movie. There’s ample evidence in the games he does. He even has a quirky gremlin-sense of humor type personality if the few dialogue options presented in the games are anything to go off of.
Oh yeah and one more thing:
Tumblr media
Illumination is NOT working on a Zelda movie. That was a RUMOR that was confirmed to be not true. There isn’t even a Zelda film in the works right now. You guys are freaking out over NOTHING…. Again!
in kotg what are the champions relationship like with one another ( also including link and Zelda)
As I’ve said before Urbosa and Daruk are sort of the parents? I love found families so I honestly want them to be a little family. Rebels style you know?
Urbosa is def the most responsible, I imagine that when Zelda and Rhoam aren’t there, she’s the one leading the champions. She’s the chief, very motherly, so of course she’s the most responsible. She’s very comforting to the others when needed and overall they greatly respect her. Now, I haven’t played the dlc for botw so I haven’t read the journals, nor do I have creating a champion, so some facts may not add up, but I do know that Urbosa describes the others besides Daruk as very young, so I think she naturally feels very responsible for the other’s well being. She and Daruk, being the oldest, are good friends and I would describe them as drinking buddies. She’s very motherly towards Mipha, I feel like she and Zelda have a lot in common so Urbosa treats her the same way as Zelda. She sees Link as a goofy teenage boy (even tho he’s 20 in this au) but I feel like she treats Link the same way Telma treated Link in tp? Not super motherly towards him cuz he doesn’t need that (his mother is alive and well) but she does guide him when needed and sees him as a capable adult. And Revali… there’s a reason that he’s scared of her. Anytime Revali would act up she’d scold him and tell him that he’s basically an idiot lol. She understands that he really has a lot of underlying issues underneath his arrogant attitude so she does look out for him.
Daruk a fun dad type of character. I imagine he’s charismatic and helps hype people up when needed, and he’s kind of a ride or die kinda guy (lol). But he’s not responsible. There’s a reason why Urbosa is in charge and not him lol. He’s a loveable himbo who wants to look out for the kidlets you know? Obviously he thinks they’re all adorable, Link is his little guy, Mipha is the little zora princess who has a huge crush and wants his help to confess to Link (he’s a wingman ;)) and Revali is the sassy child who needs some love. Even tho Revali makes fun of him, he doesn’t get offended by any of it. Whether it’s because he’s understanding that Revali means nothing by it, or if it’s because he’s just a himbo, who knows. He loves the kids tho (I keep saying they’re kids they’re adults but THEYRE LITTLE 💀💀💀). But yeah, he just kind of vibes. He and Urbosa are indeed besties and again, he sees Zelda almost the same as Mipha. Just a sweet little child
Mipha is kind of a people pleaser and doesn’t know how to say no. So she finds the champions who won’t take advantage of her kindness very comforting. Now, Mipha’s mother is gonna be in this au (just say she’s alive and don’t worry about the logistics lol) but she doesn’t see her very often so it’s nice to have Urbosa there to tell her “hey take a break”. Zelda is her best friend and they love hanging out. Mipha is really the only person who got through to Revali, so she considers him to be a very good friend. Obviously she loves Link and is basically going to Daruk for help. She wants to impress him with her fighting skills <3 and yeah. She very much wants to protect them. If anything where to happen to them, well… you’ll see :3c
And lastly Revali. You saw that stupid respect thingy ma Bob i made. He’s afraid of Urbosa, but more in a fearful respect kind of way. He won’t cross her in any way and he doesn’t want to make her upset of course. He is very fond of Mipha and Zelda. He thinks they’re both very great people who are strong princesses. He respects Zelda’s determination and intelligence, and he respects Mipha’s kindness and selflessness. He may sass them a couple of times but overall he likes them. Even tho he makes fun of Daruk, he deeply cares for that rock guy. Daruk is just a silly guy and Revali will laugh at him but will defend him with his life. And Link…. Revali is a hardworking guy who is very good at what he does, and Link seems to be some prodigy who is good at everything, and that makes Revali very insecure. Like Zelda, Revali has a huge issue with comparing himself to others. If he’s not the best then he’s the worst, and Link really makes him struggle with that. It’s not Link’s fault, and Revali genuinely thinks he’s an amazing fighter, but he’ll never say it out loud. It’s complicated to say the least. Honestly Revali is the only person who sees him as a rival. Link doesn’t care and the others just think that Revali hates Link lol.
Now for Link and Zelda. Y’all know my thoughts on this zelink. I feel like Zelda would love Link but I don’t want to deal with a love triangle so I might not explore any of that. But they are just friends. You can overall pick up their thoughts on the champions with this.
