In 70 chapters, Prowl frowns rougly 104 times. And the intensity of this gesture is very clearly correlated with the development of his relationship with Jazz, as you can see ahahahahah It might be wrong tho don’t take me seriously I’m not good with graphs

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is that small moment in “Air Turtle” where immediately after the Daves lose yet another game, Leo says how sorry he is and how he’s doing his best as the mascot. This moment is so short but it’s honestly jam-packed with a whole heap of characterization.

His need to apologize for things clearly not his fault - especially when it feels like he messes up the job he was given despite doing the best he can (the phrase “it’s not about you” takes a new meaning when this is one of the lessons to be learned from that - that he is not always solely responsible for things going wrong), his need to save face and make a connection with an older adult man in his life (something he consistently does throughout the series - he’s got a few daddy issues, always collecting potential father figures, it’s no wonder he jumps at the bit to keep rapport), and the way he sounds and looks and the words he chooses really pushes how he is just a kid (“Mr. the Dunk, I’m so sorry”).

Like I know it’s a one off moment that doesn’t truly mean much, but when put against the rest of the series it works really well with the rest of Leo’s established character and helps in solidifying later concepts as well.

I’ve been seeing a lot of House MD stuff on here lately and it’s so funny to me how truly wild (affectionately) it all is compared to how… simple the general reactions were when it was airing.

2006 after a full first season: “Dr House so mean.” “He and Cuddy should date.” “It’s always Lupus.”

2023, 11 years after the finale: “Here’s my Dr Baby Girl and his bf moving in together AMV set to WAP.” “Here’s my 900 page essay on who is a bottom or top in the House/Wilson household.” “My fix it fic isn’t actually a fix it fic because it’s cannon that everyone survives their life threatening situation.” “It’s always Lupus.”

Anyway. I’m setting this as my expectations for fandoms from now on.

I think that’s the end of this chapter already, but it was such a nice little pause in things to check in on Watanuki and measure how he’s doing as a person. How much he’s grown. How he’s so used to it all. How he’s become suited to everything happening around him and can do it naturally. 

But also how he’s gathered himself a small family. Just Haruka talks about making choices and only noticing the effects afterwards, the effects here are clear - Watanuki, who was born alone and on accident with no-one in the world, has naturally gathered people around him who he cares about and who care about him in return. He’s surrounded himself with laughter and love and it’s all because of who he’s choosing to become and all the choices he’s made along the way. 

There were many ways this all could have turned out very differently, but they turned out this way, because of him.

The fact that I don’t think about JZX when he’s not immediately in my field of vision is in fact a problem! Not because there is a Moral Imperative to think about [checks notes] the wealthiest and least interesting sword wizard boy in the Wealthy Sword Wizard Boy Show, but because he has a lot of potential as a character, and he seems like he ought to matter more given that his death is this huge tragic turning point for the story. But his premature violent death isn’t sad for him, it’s sad first and foremost for how it impacts the other characters because he’s not nearly as developed as they are, and there is no reason for that to be true of a character who is introduced so early in the story and who is present at so many important events! Especially when the story is told chronologically and freed from third-person limited POV!

My girl QS is also underdeveloped, but her story only intersects with WWX’s in the last hours of her life, so I get it. But JZX is always around! He’s in proximity to the main plot as much as NHS is, so why not take the same care with him? Especially since his death is now the fault of Designated Supervillain JGY rather than our protagonist, so there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain by making his death hit harder?
