since this is the delta help desk, I have come to you once again to dip into your vast swathe of motorsport knowledge.

I've seen a lot of pictures of Nico from his early years in the sport and read a lot of articles where he is described as good looking, handsome, blonde etc and have heard some discussions where pre dts f1 fans have called him the og pretty boy, and charles' predecessor etc. I wanted to understand the cultural hype around Nico in his early years? Like the current f1 fandom is very americanised and charles definitely enjoys the fruits of being good looking. Did Nico have something similar? Like fans emphasizing their love for Nico because of how pretty he is, giving him an almost pop idol sort of worship. I understand that f1 had a smaller fan base back then and it was more men that women probably so this sort of talk was probably frowned upon. But did Nico drive people un poco loco, essentially? Would love your thoughts.

oh this is kind of a hard one. i feel like the most accurate and honest answer i can give you is no. and yes. which is very irritating of me, but bear with me.

the culture around f1 was massively different back then, both when nico first started and when he left. the audience was smaller and mostly male, and information about the drivers and their personalities was extremely limited, mostly due to FOM rules regulating what behind the scenes stuff teams and drivers could post. most of the "fun" content and insight that teams can do now was only done through the broadcasters like sky, the bbc, espn etc.

the other main source of information about drivers i would say was tabloids. and certain drivers like jenson button, kimi raikkonen and to a slightly lesser (or different) extent lewis hamilton became very famous because of them. michael schumacher was a god of racing, and lewis had the whole young prodigy dating an american popstar thing, but even before jenson and kimi won their championships they were very well known for drinking and partying and dating lots and lots of very beautiful women, some famous, some not. it was a bit more rockstar than popstar i guess, where the extremes of the life, the heavy drinking, the hard partying, the fast driving, the beautiful women were seen as aspirational for the mostly male audience.

and nico never really fit into that. he did the drinking and partying, but away from the cameras usually, and his awkwardness and resting bitch face made people think that he was boring and stuck up. he was also so steadfastly loyal to vivian, who seems like his only real relationship (they began dating at 18 and people who worked with nico back in the junior formulas said that he never brought girls round other than her) in an era where cheating was so widespread and normalised that some fans speculated about his sexuality, suggesting that vivian was a beard and he was actually gay (he was also close with lewis, adrian sutil and nelson piquet jr who also all had speculation over their sexualities so i think that was part of it as well).

i think there was some pop idol-ism in women's treatment of nico back in the day. when he was in formula bmw as the most aggressively blonde 17 year old in existence he was sponsored by viva, which i believe was the german version of mtv, and i think more broadly the whole formula bmw championship was promoted on that channel, making the racers relatively popular with the teenage girls of germany. i also remember seeing an interview nico and some of the other drivers like romain grosjean did (i think in canada 2013 but i can't be sure) where a couple of women in the audience said they were there to see nico because he was so pretty. and if you go into some of the old reddit threads on f1 there are some comments about how pretty nico is and can you blame the camera operator for zooming in so the audience can count his eyelashes? (i believe reddit's consensus was no, you can't blame the camera operator).

i think one of the major differences (other than the different fan cultures) between nico's early years and charles's early years is that charles was promoted to ferrari almost immediately while nico was stuck outdriving fairly terrible cars. one of the reasons why charles has such a large fanbase is because he's driving for a top team, has done so for a long time, and is hailed (rightly or wrongly) as a future world champion. nico never really had any of that hype. he had moments of brilliance in his early years and outdrove all of his cars and teammates (i know mark webber beat him in the head to head in nico's first year but he beat everyone else), but the williams was at best a midfield car and so the hype wasn't really there in the way it has been for charles at ferrari. i think it's also fair to say that as well as nico did in his early career, he was overshadowed by lewis coming into mclaren and immediately challenging for a championship. maybe things would have been different if nico had been able to accept the mclaren seat in 2008, but ultimately he got very few opportunities to show his talent in his early career. and in an era where fandom gravitated either to the challengers (michael, kimi, fernando, lewis) or the playboys (kimi, jenson) nico didn't really fit either mould.

i also think we have to acknowledge the negativity that surrounded nico throughout his career, largely because of his looks. i (and f1blr more broadly) joke a lot about nico causing sexuality crises throughout the paddock, and while it is a joke, i do think there was a lot of very genuine homophobia (and misogyny) directed at nico, especially in his early career. while other drivers, like jenson for example, were thought of as good looking, it was in an aspirational way (aspirational for women to have in a partner and aspirational for men to be, and therefore to get women), whereas nico was viewed as attractive in a "feminine" way, which was seen as the wrong way. he was too pretty, too conscious about it, too effeminate. the britney nickname, fans constantly calling him barbie as an insult, the most attractive woman in the paddock vote where someone (pretty sure nico has said it was seb) voted for him, it was all based in a perception of him as "womanly" and therefore "weak". he was good-looking in a way that men couldn't fantasise about being, because they associated him too heavily with the people, usually women, that they wanted to fuck.

as much as people like to talk about how feral men are for charles now, it is largely in a positive way. when men talked about nico being pretty it was in a derogatory way, rooted in the culture of the time, which was generally quite homophobic and misogynistic. i think he did drive them crazy, but not necessarily in a good way 🤷🏿‍♀️

I imagine Sanji having nightmares. Not every day but, like, it happens a lot. Sanji can't fall back asleep then, so he always ends up in the kitchen cooking or just smoking until somebody wakes up. He's shaking and really, really trying to distract himself because otherwise, he'll have a panic attack. This thing usually happens around 3 am, for example, depending on the day, and since Robin wakes up pretty early (5 am) it's just normal that they find each other in the kitchen. I just love the thought of Sanji trying to act like everything's fine but it's obvious he hasn't slept and he doesn't even want breakfast when Robin asks if he wants to make something for himself too (while he's cooking for her). They just sit in silence for a while but she knows something's wrong. She says something about not having to deal with the burden of her past alone anymore, now that she's with them, and that Sanji should do the same. But it's out of nowhere and what is he supposed to do with that? So he just nods and tries to avoid it, but at least Robin is happy he eats when she tells him to grab something from her plate.

When he fights with Zoro, sometimes it's too much. It's stupid, really. Their whole relationship is just constant bickering and arguments without end. But sometimes he gets too stressed and too overwhelmed and it's just too much, so he ends up leaving to a quiet place instead of saying something he might end up regretting. They argue, but he doesn't actually hate the damn swordsman, goddammit. Somehow, Robin is always there. She always lets him rant and rant about these things, and even if she just makes a sweet comment in the end that Sanji has a hard time deciphering, it's more than enough to calm him down.

Things get... A lot worse sometimes. Somedays, Sanji just won't eat. Or act like himself. Or shower. Or, well, anything. Sometimes he's more irritable and it's quite obvious that something is wrong, but he never lets people around him help. And Robin notices, because she has been there. She isn't a mind reader, but she notices when somebody is thinking about death when she sees one. This only happens in private and not a lot of times, but Sanji lets himself cry when Robin is there. And she hugs him and it's warm and she smells so much like his mom it just makes him cry harder. She's so sweet and soothing and she keeps kissing his forehead and saying that he'll be fine. That it's just a rough time, but he'll be okay with them.

Sanji can't handle alcohol, by the way. He sucks at drinking. Horrible drinker. He has a bit of Rum or Vodka or whatever, even a fucking beer and he's already feeling a bit dizzy. He says not to worry because he handles it perfectly, but uhhh, nope. He's a lightweight and he's an honest drunk who won't stop having breakdowns and the minimum sign of affection. So he always ends up crying in Robin's lap while she caresses his hair and lets him rant drunkenly for hours. She's there to calm him down when he throws up too. Poor boy.

When he has his gender crisis or his sexuality crisis or he has a crush or whatever, somehow he always ends up talking to Robin. It's a habit now, talking to her whenever he needs advice, and she always manages to give him the perfect support every time. Even if he's stubborn and panics every time he thinks about his true feelings, she's always there to catch him when he falls and when he doesn't know what to do.

Robin is also very protective of him, especially since Wano happened. If she sees a girl going to fight Sanji she stands in the way and helps him out. She knows he doesn't have the heart to harm them, and she's proud of him for asking for help whenever he needs it.

Not to mention that she loves it. She loves being his support. She loves taking care of him and helping him out. I mean, to her, Sanji is so young (they only have a 9-year age gap but you know what I mean. Also different lives and positions of power in their lives. She's just way more mature) and inexperienced and she's so glad he trusts her enough to let her help. I think about their Wano scene every day of my life, I swear.

hey wait im also new to f1 but i saw the other ask and i was curious abt what you meant when you said no one will ever do it like nico rosberg?? also retiring after your first championship win is insane lmao what a power move

nico rosberg is just. he’s insane. he’s cunty. he’s wonderful. he possesses sass and audacity unlike any other. we unfortunately do not have time to get into his whole story (my lunch break is only so long) but here’s some highlights:

-technically he’s a nepo baby. his dad, keke rosberg, won the world championship in 1982 and they remain one of the Few father son duos to both win a world championship (don’t ask me who the others are idk but i know they exist)

-he and lewis hamilton met when they were kids in the late 90s sometime and were gokarting teammates at some point in i think the early 2000s? (not fact checking i don’t have the time rn) and they were Besties. they’ve talked about this before, mostly in older interviews, but the gist is that both of them were outcasts from the other karting kid in opposite ways (nico was the son of a champion and rich and lewis was from nothing and pretty much the only poc most of the time) and that drew them together and they were Menaces according to legend. everything was a competition and they trashed hotel rooms and ate pizza and ice cream and kellogg frosties and went to greece and dreamed of being in f1 together

-nico signed with williams in 2006. his teammate was mark webber. and nico had long flowing blonde hair (this is important). he crashed at one race and mark webber said “britney’s in the wall” cementing the nickname britney, like britney spears. jenson button (another driver) said later on that they called nico britney because he was “very pretty” (do with that what you will)

-he was just. insane. cunty. constantly looked like a european bond villain. wore god awful shoes. whole bit. once he stayed in his car when it got craned off the track cause he didn’t want his hair to get wet. which is insane cause he’s wearing a helmet it would have gotten equally as not wet had he gotten out.

-anyway, lewis made it to f1 in 2007 and they had their first podium together i think that year (?) and it’s cute and fun and oh boy you’re not ready for what these two have coming

-lewis won the championship in 2008 (but he almost won in 2007, his rookie year) at mclaren.

-nico went to mercedes when they recentered the grid in 2010. his teammate was michael schumacher, who was fresh out of retirement. (yes the michael schumacher, 7x world champion). michael fucked with nico endlessly according to legend, including making him piss in a bucket pre race because he would hog the bathroom until the last possible second. nico still out preformed him most of the time, and the car was mid as hell.

-michael retired part 2 at the end of 2012. and who replaced him but lewis hamilton

-so the two of them were teammates again. the cards were absolute Stacked against them. because yes they were besties yes they’d known eachother forever but the first person you’re judged against is your teammate. and you’re trying to beat your teammate. and lewis already had a championship. nico wanted a championship.

-2013 was relatively chill. the car was kinda mid. they did well but not fantastic and did some fuck ass pr (highly reccomend looking those videos up)

-2014 they had a car that could win. and they started fighting eachother for wins. they played all kinds of mind games against eachother and withheld stats and nico ran illegal engine modes (supposedly) and lewis said they were no longer friends after nico supposedly wrecked his monaco qualifying one year but they claimed they still supported eachother and were friends off track. lewis won in 2014 and in 2015. but nico was right behind him and he wanted to win a championship, he didn’t want to be a number 2 driver

-so in 2016 nico did some insane shit. he stopped sleeping with his wife so that he could get better sleep or something, he did weird things to cut weight, he basically did everything and then some to win. and then he did. he won the championship and then at the prize giving ceremony announced he was retiring. he didn’t tell lewis this.

“Hey.” You muttered into Max’s back as he stood on the balcony of the house that you rented out for the last couple of days.

Max didn’t respond, instead just let out a deep breath before you moved your arms up around his middle section.

He moved his hand over yours, moving the engagement ring that he placed on your finger, side to side. It was a weight on your hand that you could definitely get used to.

Max had been outside for a while, looking out into the surf, the glass that was filled with a diluted gin and tonic sitting on the table to his side. You let him have a few moments to himself while you finished up packing the last of your things before you left to go back to Monaco in the morning.

“I’m happy to be going home tomorrow.” He said, turning his head towards you. “I’ve missed Nico.”

Your vacation with Max had been nice, but you also missed the little boy being underfoot all the time when you were all home together.

“I’ve missed him too.” You got up on the tip of your toes and kissed the back of Max’s neck. You could feel his shoulders relax a little more.

“He’ll be excited about the news.” Max said. For a moment you could have sworn you heard Nico’s voice in your head saying, ‘Mimi and Papa are getting married.’

You lightly chuckled, “Be ready for him to come running from the living room when we get home.”

“Yeah, he’ll be a ball of energy until dinner. He’ll be more happy about us getting married than my mum.” He said turning around to pull you close into his arms.

You gave Max a wide smile. In the years you had been dating Max, Sophie had become like a mom to you. She always said that she was a phone call away if you needed someone to talk to, about Max, Nico, or to just be a sympathetic ear. Part of you wondered if she knew about Max proposing to you.

“Does she know about…?” You trailed off, playing with your ring. Max’s eyes went down to your fingers. “Yeah. I showed her the ring just before we left. She sounded happy for me.” Like she approved. You could hear in the silent air.

“Well I’m glad.” Having Sophie’s support was important to you. Max was her only son, and you wanted to make sure that Sophie was okay with you becoming a part of this family.

Max was quick to take your hand in his before moving onto the couch, pulling you into his lap. You both stayed there for a while. Max taking a sip of his watered down gin and tonic before you both went back inside the villa to help him pack the last of the bags and go to sleep for the night. You had a mid-day flight to catch before you would be back in Monaco with Max by your side, and you couldn’t wait to share the happy news with Nico and Sophie.

24 hours before

You and Max were on vacation in The Bahamas and had been locked away sleeping in until the early hours of the afternoon and spending time on the beach when the sun was no longer at its highest point in the sky. Max even had something that resembled a tan instead of his normal almost shell pink color. It was nice being able to spend time with Max, just the two of you. Nico had stayed with Sophie in Max’s apartment so as to not break his schedule while you were gone.

You had missed Nico being Max’s little shadow, however, it was nice to have Max all to yourself for more than a few hours in the evening.

It was your second to last day before you would be going back home. Max had pulled you out of bed at noon for brunch, you hung out on the beach for a bit before going back to the house, showered, took a short nap, and then he told you to get dressed as he had arranged dinner plans.

You had gotten quite the surprise when you and Max had taken a walk to the beach below to see a table set up for two. The private chef that was hired during your stay had made you food. It felt a little unreal, that you got to slow dance in the surf with Max before desert came.

Max led you back to the table where you had managed to take a few bites of the desert, the sand still stuck between your toes. Max wasn’t eating any of it though. He reached over and placed his hand over yours.

“Y/N,” He breathed out. You let your eyes meet his, his hand was slightly shaking before you saw him get up from his seat and drop down to one knee. Max reached down into the pocket of the loose navy pants that he was wearing to see him pull out a dark blue box. Max seemed like he was slightly stumbling to open the box but you just looked at him, seeing the determined look on his face. He was so serious about this with his brows slightly furrowed as he tried to open the box.

God, did you love him.

He pulled the lid open on both sides, revealing the ring. It was a little unreal seeing it after all of the conversations that you and Max had about your future together. When did Max have time to go get a ring?

Max looked up at you, his eyes steel blue as he held your gaze, “Y/N,” He started again. “I’ve loved you for a long time. Of course, being able to spend these last few years with you has meant everything to me. You being able to accept Nico as your own. Loving me, just me. Max.” He said putting a hand up to his chest.

“Without everything else that may come with that.” You knew that there were some less-than-stellar parts of Max’s life.

“I can’t imagine a life without you in it. I know that Nico and I would be lucky to have you as part of our family. I’m asking if you will marry me?” Max wasn’t looking at you, as if he was afraid of your answer.

You nodded yes at his words, “Yes, Max.” 

“Are you sure?” He asked looking up at you. You could see the hope flooding his eyes.

“I’m sure.” You said with a final nod.

Max placed the box on the table before reaching for you. He pressed his lips to yours, his hands moving into your hair, drawing you closer to him.

You pulled away slightly, barely coming up for air.

“I wanted to get it right,” Max muttered, the nervousness slipping away from his tone. “I wanted you to know how much you mean to me.” Max dropped his forehead to yours loving how happy he sounded. “Of course, I chose now. How can I not when you look so gorgeous.”

You couldn’t help the blush that spread over your cheeks. How did he get away with saying things like that?

Max moved back just a step before pulling you out of your chair and onto your feet. He took the ring out of the navy box before sliding it onto your finger. It looked beautiful, like it was meant for you.

“Do you like it?” He asked, looking down at your hand.

“It looks perfect.” You brightly replied.

“You deserve the best,” Max said into your ear.

You put your arms around Max’s neck before looking to meet his eyes. “You’re the best thing that could happen to me. You and Nico.”

“Ik houd van jou, mijn leeuwin.” He said.

“I love you too, Max.” You said back as you and Max walked through the sand with your hands interlocked. You could feel him playing with the band of the ring as you and Max slowly walked back to the house, your hands clasped together. He had pulled you into his arms once you were back in the living room lying against each other. You ended up going to bed late, Max kissing the band of your ring and placing your hand on his chest.

You didn’t get up until the late hours of the morning, and even had to pull yourself away from him as he held you against his chest.

In the bustling heart of New Jersey, the Hughes residence was a lively place, filled with the sounds of laughter and joy. Luke Hughes, the youngest of the three Hughes brothers, had taken a unique path in life. While still in college, he had become a father to a beautiful little girl named Y/N. Now, at 21, he was juggling the demanding life of an NHL player with the equally demanding yet infinitely rewarding role of being a dad.

Y/N was the light of Luke's life. With her curly hair, bright eyes, and infectious giggle, she had a way of making even the toughest days seem brighter. Y/N was in the middle of it all, comfortably nestled in her dad's lap, listening intently to the banter around her.

"Hey, Luke," Nico Hischier called out, leaning against the kitchen counter. "How do you do it, man? Balancing everything with Y/N and hockey?"

Luke glanced down at his daughter, who was now trying to braid his hair, and smiled. "It's all about priorities, Nico. Y/N comes first, always. Hockey is important, but being a dad... that's everything to me."

The team nodded, clearly impressed. They had seen young players struggle with responsibilities, but Luke seemed to handle it with a grace and maturity beyond his years. It wasn't just about providing for Y/N; it was about being present, about being a role model and a source of unwavering love and support.

As the evening wore on, Y/N grew sleepy. Luke gently carried her to bed, tucking her in with her favorite stuffed animal. He read her a story, his voice soft and soothing, until her eyes fluttered shut. Jack watched from the doorway, a newfound respect for his brother blossoming in his chest.

the past few games were tight, and blake could feel the tension in her body as she watched the periods drag on. the devils needed this win to take the cup, and the energy in prudential echoed the importance of the game.

"i think i'm going to be sick," blake announces as nico jumps onto the ice in the third period. "we're so close," she says, squeezing the hands of jesper bratts girlfriend.

"i don't think i can watch," one of the other wags replies before throwing her hands up in front of her face.

before anyone else can succumb to their nerves, meier shoots the puck into the back of the net and the arena erupts into cheers. "theres still two minutes left!" blake shouts, locking arms with the girls beside her. they were all wrought with anxious nerves and energy, that the only thing they could think of doing was hold onto each other.

the rest of the game goes by quickly, and it's announced that the devils won the game. "they did it!" blake screams, jumping up with the rest of the girls. she quickly grabs her phone, making sure to take a quick few shots of nico and her brothers celebrating their win.

soon enough, blake and the families were brought onto the ice. there wasn't a second to congratulate her brothers before nico scooped blake up in his arms.

"we did it, schatz" nico beams with excitement as he hoists blake up into the air. she wraps her legs around his waist easily, the words "Hischier 13" proudly on display across the back of her jacket.

"i'm so proud of you," blake cries, pulling away from nico's neck to kiss him. "you played so good... i love you... that was so hot..." she speaks between enthusiastic kisses.

when they finally calm down a little and blakes set back on her feet, nico makes blakes heart start racing again. "marry me," he says simply, as if it's the most normal thing to ask after winning the stanley cup.

"what?" blake gasps, her hands never loosening from around his waist.

"marry me, please schatz" nico repeats, a doopy smile etched across his face.

blake squeals, and repeatedly nods her head in approval. "yes - yes of course i'll marry you!" she removes her hands from around his waist and instead places them on both sides of his cheeks. nico leans forward and softly kisses blakes pillowy lips before theyre dragged apart by excited family members - nobody but themselves aware of the proposal.

a few days later, when they are no longer hungover and exhausted, blake brings up the proposal again. "you know, when you propose there's usually a ring..." she teases.

nico looks at her softly and blake swears she could melt with the intensity of his beautiful brown eyes. "it's coming, i have plans set up" he assures her, opening up his arms which she gladly walks into.

she lays her head on his chest, "a double proposal... this is very intense,"

"nothing but the best for you," he kisses the top of her head, ignoring the mess of suitcases and clothes strewn around their room for their upcoming trip to switzerland. "i can't wait to give you the ring," he kisses her again.

"i'm waiting happily.. just don't take too long. i cant wait to 'officially' be your fiancée," blake leans up to look nico in the eyes once more.

"you won't have to wait long, i'm too excited to be your fiancé" nico smiles.

the first week in nico's hometown goes by in a blur. every relative, close friend, and neighbour wanted to congratulate nico and there were lots of catching up to do after the long and tiring season.

also, blake was proud to announce that her german speaking skills have gotten so much better of the course of the 4 years she and nico have been dating. it was relief knowing that she could keep up with his families conversations - even if she still wasn't the best speaker.

they had been so busy the first week that blake didn't notice her family suddenly going ghost for the 12ish hours it took to fly to switzerland. nor did she really notice the excited glances shared between nico's family as they wished them off on their hike.

"nina's so sweet. she's been teaching me more german while you were hanging out with friends earlier and i really think i'm starting to understand better," blake explains as she trails behind an overly excited nico. "i just need to work on my speaking and pronunciation.. but each time i hear you guys talk i swear i'm getting it! i think by next summer if i keep practicing i'll be able to have full conversations,"

nico looks back at blake with nothing but pride. "i love you,"

she laughs, "i love you too?"

suddenly, they were both standing on top of a gorgeous mountain with the sun shining on both of them. as expected, blake steps forward to admire the view. "after all these years coming up here, i don't think i'll ever get used to it," she enthuses, and nico hums from behind her as he gets down on one knee.

"aw, nico look there's a dog all the way down there-" blake turns around and gasps. even though she was expecting another proposal with a ring this time, she's still surprised.

"blake, last time i wasn't as prepared as i shouldve been," nico chuckles nervously and blake giggles. "these last few years have been a dream and i can't imagine not waking up next to you or not wanting to spend all of my time with you. youre my best friend and i love you so much. will you officially agree to marry me?" nico asks, holding out the ring box and opening it slowly.

"of course i'll marry you," blakes voice is muffled as she drops her hands away from her mouth. "i love you so much," she cries, holding onto nico tightly when he finally stands up.

when they pull apart, he slides the beautiful gold diamond ring onto her finger.

"congrats you guys!" jack shouts as soon as the front door of hischier house opens.

"youre here?" blake cries out, palms digging into her eyes as happiness floods through her.

"sweetie congradulations," ellen speaks softly into blake ear as she brings her daughter forward into a bone-crushing hug. "show me the ring," she asks happily, and blake gladly obliges.

"i can't believe you guys are all here," blake sniffles, looking up to see her brothers - trevor included - and her immediate family.

"i'd never miss your engagement goldie," trevor jokes as he slings an arm around blakes shoulders. "you did good," blake glances over at her fiancee who was talking animatedly with his friends and family - recounting the proposal to the fine details.

"i know," blake smiles sappily and turns to her oldest brother.

"i'm proud of you, goose" quinn teases but blake can see the tears lining his eyes. "you're so grown up now," he breathes out, pulling his sister into a hug that jack and luke aren't shy of joining.

over her brothers shoulders she spots her dad next to nico's and she excitedly flashes them her ring.

What will it take to get the thesis 👀👀

literally nothing, i will talk about brocedes on the internet for free any day of the week.

okay so, one of the things i find fascinating about it is that it's only that clue "i love to drive but i don't really like the attention and media that comes with the job" that lewis seems to focus on. because nico was a monaco princess and has never done any kind of manual labour in his life let alone national service. look at the video of him trying to chop down a tree for an environmental project with his extreme e team if you don't believe me. but lewis ignores that (maybe because the woman says that he'll get it after the next clue). kimi is the obvious choice for a driver who hates media, but lewis was never especially close with kimi, but he was close with nico. and nico did hate the media and the attention that came with formula 1.

something that he and numerous other people around him have said consistently throughout his career is that he's shy. one journalist specifically said that it was a finnish kind of shyness, where he was hesitant to share parts of himself with the world. although i think will buxton's "contenders" article is ridiculous, there are some important things in it. buxton says that nico tried to take control of the questioning during press conferences etc. and if you follow his career, you see that where nico has shared himself with the press and with the world it is very much on his terms. he wanted to be able to be the one to define himself and his image, and it actually backfired spectacularly several times because a lot of journalists in motorsport (will buxton for example) really resented it and became more negative in response.

a lot of people look at the media from nico's career and think that he was very boring or uptight or had no personality. and the truth is that he's actually incredibly fascinating but it never came across because he disliked the media aspects of the job so much (in fairness the media also hated him for just doing his job, and he literally once got told to smile more during an interview because they disliked his demeanour).

even when you look at things like his youtube channel, it was very much the first thing he tried after leaving f1, and since exploring more and finding other projects to be passionate about he's significantly decreased his usage (to an upsetting level to those of us who loved it). when he comes to commentate races it's because he loves racing. like i truly do not believe you can listen to nico talk about max verstappen's driving as art and not think that he's there because he loves the sport and even if he's not racing anymore the love is still there.

another factor for me is that nico's been surrounded by the media and fan attention since he was a child because of his father and his surname. there are photos of literal toddler nico in the williams garage with his parents. the first time he ever met jenson button and jenson nearly threw hands with a 12 year old is immortalised in photos. nico signed his first autograph at nine, because a fan of his dad's said "just in case". the media and the attention has been an intrusion on his life for literally his entire life. you can see from the way he's very careful about what he posts of his children that he wants to give them privacy and respect in their childhood. i do think the media intrusion etc. is significantly worse now than it was when nico was growing up, but i do think that nico's own childhood experiences have influenced the way he parents his children.

and coming back to lewis, the truth about lewis and nico is that they really were best friends. for a while they were pretty much each other's only friend. nico does know lewis better than most people in the world and lewis knows nico better than almost anyone in the world. that just comes with growing up with someone and being there for the life moments that come to define them. so lewis knows that nico is a bit shy, and he knows that nico has never liked media attention. and even though kimi is the absolute obvious choice for disliking media, the first person lewis thinks of for that is nico. because lewis can never forget nico

PJO Future AU head-cannon stuff (some ARE taken from other peoples head-cannons bc they’re awesome):

- Will Solace would not be a medic/be in the medical field— I feel like just because he’s good at it doesn’t mean he likes it. Maybe he’d be a teacher because of his leadership skills.

- I feel like from working in the infirmary and having people close to him pass, Nico would choose a medical field job. I feel like he’d be an RN (registered nurse) or doctor and work at like an urgent care (er is too crazy for him— or maybe it wouldn’t and he’d like the chaos)

- I also feel like there’d be a not so great injury and Nico would be like “Oh let me see” then see it and be like “oh that’s really cool” not much would phase him— or it would but he’d find it fascinating

- I feel like the fact that they didn’t have these new kinds of tech when Nico was growing up also adds to his fascination. Like what do you mean x-Ray machines exist?

- I feel like Percy would do well with water jobs— like maybe he’d be a marine biologist and he’d find it fun to just communicate with the ocean life.

- Frank and Hazel would take a lot of dual credit classes or graduate early from highschool so they could focus on the camp— like they’d take online stuff so they could spend more time focusing on camp. (hope that makes sense) I’m not sure what I think their careers would be.

- Leo would own his own mechanic shop after going to trade school (saw on tiktok)

- Jason (revived) would be a professor of history— probably mythology.

- As a Valgrace shipper (dont judge pls) I think that they’d get together shortly after Jason is revived (not too short— six months after?) because they’ve been through a lot already and don’t want to risk anything again.

Now, onto kids because I don’t see these often but I find it fun to imagine:

- Frank would be a girl dad. He’s got two daughters and is just so happy with them and Hazel.

- Percy and Annabeth would have three kids, two girls and a son, in that order. I feel like Percy and Annabeth would work hard to have good relationships with their kids and finally relax. I feel like they’d be sorta protective but also be very relaxed with them- educate them about being mature and making good choices.

- I feel like Annabeth would realize how important names were and try to name her kids after popular figures in history who had good stories

- Will and Nico would probably have two kids, both adopted, but one would be one of Will’s half-siblings/half-nephews. The kid was really little, like four or five, when he got to camp and Will just kinda adopted him so he didn’t have to be full-time at camp. They also have a daughter but not until the son is like 12. She’s also adopted and is also a half-blood but I feel like they wouldn’t know who her godly parent is until she’s 12 and then be shocked because she’s like a child of Zeus.

- Leo and Jason would wait a while and focus on their relationship and careers. Then they’d adopt two daughters (not at the same time) and raise them where they don’t know about half-bloods until they’re older. They’d probably be half-bloods so that way they could raise them the way they wished they were raised. Leo and Jason don’t want them to have to see and experience the stuff they had to at such a young age.

- I don’t think any of them would name their kids after any of their late friends. I saw someone, a while ago, bring up that it could result in bad memories or just not be an okay time yet to do so. So— I don’t think that Annabeth would name her kid Silena and I don’t think Nico would name his kid Bianca.

- However, I do feel like Annabeth and Percy would name their eldest Sally after Percy’s mom (it would work well with the headcannon that Annabeth would name her kids after people with good stories) and have her middle name be a positive powerful historical figure.

(I realize I left Piper out— I’ve been forgetting a lot about characters recently and need to go back and reread HOO in order to grasp what I think she’d do in the future)

Formula 1 drivers and stethoscopes (2024 grid)

I have too much free time (I should work on things) and a bit too big interest in stethoscopes, so I thought why not to make a post where I pair all the drivers of this year's grid with a stethoscope color/design I think fits them the best. | Formula E version by @fredwardart.

I don't want to speak too much, so let's dive in:

Max - Purrfect (MDF Instruments)

What else could be more perfect for the cat dad of the grid than this cute cat tube design? I don't think there's a stethsocope more fitting for Max.

Checo - Royal Blue (MDF Instruments)

I think Checo would go for a simple one. No need for anything fancy if a simple one does the job, too.

Lando - Graffiti (MDF Instruments)

This Graffiti design is pretty similar to Lando's sticker helmet and I think it's fun and fits his personality. (But he'd probably try and make one that has his own design on it.)

Oscar - Orange (Littmann)

I think this simple orange stethoscope is a good fit for Oscar because the color can symbolise McLaren, the team he'll achieve a lot with.

Carlos - Burgundy with smoke finish (Littmann)

I chose this Littmann for Carlos because of his helmet (and CS55 racing suit) colors/design. Red is a good fit because of Spain and the spanish flag, and a bit of black makes it perfect like it does with his helmet, too.

Charles - Burgundy with champagne finish (Littmann)

This is a bit similar to what I chose for Carlos, but there's an important difference: the champagne finish chest piece, which has a gold-ish tone on more natural/non-studio photos. Red for Ferrari, a shiny, golden-like chest piece for being Ferrari's golden boy, it's a (close to) perfect match. (But it would be even better if the ear tubes were champagne finish, too, but sadly that's not an option.)

George - Caribbean Blue (Littmann)

Caribbean blue for George, it wasn't even a question after @landoisokay asked me if George would have this or a simple black and silver one. I think he'd choose this because it's not as simple as a black and silver one but it's still not too much (in contrast with the same color with a rainbow finish chest piece and golden ear tubes), it has a bit of color and I think it's the perfect color for George.

Lewis - Black and Gold (Littmann)

For Lewis, I didn't have to think too much, it was obvious that he'd get Littmann's masterpiece, the black and gold Master Cardiology, the highest quality non-digital stethoscope from Littmann. This color combination is 100% Lewis for me.

Fernando - Green/Cyprium (MDF Instruments)

When I saw this color combination, I immediately thought of Fernando. I don't think it requires much explanation.

Lance - Green (MDF Instruments)

A simple but still really nice green and silver one for Lance.

Daniel - Every Rose (MDF Instruments)

@fredwardart sent me this one, saying it could be perfect for Daniel, and I immediately fell in love with it because it indeed is perfect for him. (And I couldn't see it because I was looking at the international/non-UK version of MDF's website and it didn't have this one. So thank you for it, Freddie. ❤)

Yuki - White/Black (MDF Instruments)

When I was looking at pics on Yuki's instagram and then on Pinterest to see which colors he likes or which ones look good on him, I realized he looks really good in white, and this white tube with black chest pieces and ear tubes is the best one I could pair him with. (At first I wanted one that has food on ir or something food-related, but I couldn't find any.)

Kevin - Titan (MDF Instruments)

When I saw this in the Carbon Fiber collection of MDF, my first thought was Kevin. Perfect match.

Nico - Pinkore and Cher (MDF Instruments)

I sent this one to @fredwardart as a joke once when we were talking about stethoscopes because it reminded me of the Barbie movie, and he said it could be perfect for Nico as he's the Ken.

Esteban - Black with red stem (Littmann)

As I noticed, Esteban really likes to use red and black in his helmet designs, so I think a full black (smoke finish) Littmann with a touch of red on the stem is perfect for him.

Pierre - Starry Night (MDF Instruments)

This is a pretty fun design from MDF, when I first thought about what stethoscope Pierre would have, for some reason I imagined something like this. A blue one with a fun design people can compliment. I feel like he'd choose one that's not too much but also not the most basic blue one.

Logan - Navy Blue (Littmann)

Choosing one for Logan was easy because in one of my stories/universes two other drivers gift him one and I imagine it like this. (And it has "It beats for you" engraved on the chest piece.)

Alex - Paws/Capridium (MDF Instruments)

Most, if not all of us know that Alex/Alex's family has a lot of animals, and because of it, I think this paw print design is the best fit for him. It comes with different chest piece and ear tube colors but I think this blue one is the best, it makes the stethoscope really unique together with the tube design.

Guanyu - Black with mirror finish (Littmann)

Guanyu is the man of elegance, the perfect match for him is a black Littmann with a mirror finish chest piece. The color black is elegant, it fits everything and the shine of the mirror finish on the chest piece gives the little extra, the luxury that makes me feel like it's the one for Guanyu.

Valtteri - Poseidon (MDF Instruments)

When I saw this in the Carbon Fiber collection of MDF, I instantly knew this was Valtteri, just like I knew the other one was Kevin. Sometimes it's just a feeling without any explanation.

You had seen it on Twitter and it wasn’t long before you were down the rabbit hole. It didn’t take long to show up on your Twitter feed when you opened the cursed app.

It started with a simple tweet and took you no time to find the source.

It was speculation that you had grown used to. But that didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt when people thought that you were using Max because he had money. You knew that it probably wasn't just the small group of people on Twitter. It never was. There would always be people that wouldn't like that you were with Max. It was just the inevitable.

You had locked your phone when Nico came up to you with one of his toy cars in his hand.

“Are you sad Mimi?” Nico asked.

“No, Nico I’m not sad.” You reached for him before he moved to sit in your lap.

Nico didn’t need to know that people on the internet liked to stick their opinions into other people’s personal lives for no real reason. They talked what they didn’t know anything about and speculated on the obvious. Just another day of living in the 21st century, you thought.

“Someone wasn’t being nice to me. But, I have you and Papa, and Auntie Vic. So I will be okay.” You kissed the side of Nico’s head before he curled up with you on the couch to watch something.

You would be okay. They were just comments on a screen, as long as Max didn't find out, it would be okay.

"Okay," he muttered before laying his head on your shoulder. You were still a bit jet lagged from getting back from your trip with Max and decided to close your eyes while the movie played on the TV.

“Papa,” Nico said. “Is Mama sad?”

Max looked up from his phone to see Nico in the living room.

They had only been back from their trip for a few days and Y/N had left to go get groceries with his mom. Sophie was leaving in the morning so Y/N insisted on cooking tonight before they dropped her off at the airport tomorrow.

Nico had never called Y/N Mama before, not even when they had gotten back from their vacation, and told Nico that he and Y/N would be getting married.

“You called Y/N Mama, you haven’t before.” Max wanted to know why. Why now?

He knew that Nico had grown quite attached to Y/N after she had moved in with them. Nico liked spending time with Y/N. Nico had thrown a fit before they had left for their vacation because he would be without Y/N for a few weeks. His mom had called him once they had gotten to The Bahamas saying that Nico wanted Mimi to come home and had been crying since seeing Max’s plane take off until he had eventually fallen asleep.

Nico shrugged his shoulders. Maybe Nico was too young to understand the concept of a mother.

Nico walked away before pulling out one of the children’s books that he would read to Nico before bed. The story had a very basic structure that would appeal to Nico’s mind. It was about a mother lion taking care of her four cubs.

Nico’s finger ran over the picture of the lions on the page stopping on the mother lion. “She’s their Mama, like Mimi is mine. She takes care of me...” Nico trailed off.

He felt his phone buzz next to him but didn’t check right away to focus on Nico. He pulled him into his arms and then had him sit on his knee.

“Nico, you know that you can call Y/N Mama, right?” He said to his son in Dutch.

Nico nodded.

“I’m sure that it would make her happy if you did.” Nico didn't say anything to Max for a moment. Max saw him nod.

"When is ...Mama coming home?" Nico slowly said, as if he was truly trying it out for the first time. Letting the word roll off his tongue, and then assessed if he liked it before giving a small nod that Max would have missed if he wasn't looking.

“Soon,” He said. "Why do you think Mama is sad?" He couldn't help but think back to what Nico said when he first came into the room.

Nico gave a small shrug, "She was looking at her phone yesterday. She looked sad."

Max was a little surprised. Why would Y/N be sad about something on her phone? He would ask her when she got home.

“Come, we’ll go play with some of your toys until she and grandma get home.” He was going to leave it at that. Nico didn't need to worry about that.

He checked his phone to see a text from Lando while Nico went to get out the toys that he wanted to play with.

Nico took things out of boxes while Max quickly texted Lando back.

Max quickly locked his phone, turning to Nico to give him all of his attention to play with the mini model cars he had.

This was why Y/N had been sad, she had seen what people were saying about her on Twitter. He wasn't going to even look because he knew it would just make him angry.

They had played for a while before Max asked Nico if he would put everything away before Mama got home with Grandma.

It wasn’t much later that Max heard the front door open to Y/N and Sophie walking through the door with groceries in their hands. Max moved from his spot on the couch and helped take the bags into the kitchen.

Max hugged his mom before pulling Y/N in close, he cupped her cheek for a moment and then leaned down to kiss her on the lips. He just needed her to know that he was here if she needed anything.

“Hi.” He muttered feeling her pull away.

“Hey.” She said back. He tried to search her eyes to see if Nico was right. If she was sad, he couldn't see a trace of it at the moment.

There was the unmistakable sound of light feet against the hardwood floors.

Max and Y/N turned towards the sound of Nico standing just outside of the kitchen looking at them for a moment before running up to Y/N.

“Mama!” He yelled, before he locked his little arms around Y/N’s legs.

Y/N looked down at Nico placing her hand into his hair.

Max could see the tears filling at the corners of her eyes, not expecting to hear that.

Max couldn’t help but look over at his mom, and could see the look of approval on her face. It wasn’t something that he needed from her, but he appreciated it nonetheless.

He could see that Y/N had pushed away the stray tears that had managed to fall before he had reached over and kissed her forehead, letting his hand rest on Nico's shoulder. Max reached up to cup her chin again feeling the slight tremble of her bottom lip. She was trying to stop herself from crying.

As he looked at her he could see the silent thank you in her eyes. Her letting him know how grateful she is to him for letting her have this. To truly be Nico’s mother.

Y/N had leaned down a little and kissed the top of Nico’s head before Sophie had shooed them out of the kitchen so they could put the groceries away. Max quickly kissed Y/N on the lips before giving his mom a hug and took Nico with him out of the kitchen.

Y/N had started dinner not long after and they ended up eating some pasta dish that took what felt like no time to cook. Through dinner every time Nico asked Y/N for something it started with him calling her Mama. Y/N couldn’t wipe the smile off her face for the rest of the evening.

Once Max was done clearing the table after dinner he quickly went on his phone, wrote out a message and then posted it to his Instagram story knowing that people would check and read it. It was easy enough. Once they were both up and he had checked them twice for spelling. Then he had left his phone in the bedroom for the rest of the night, going out into the living room to talk with Sophie  and lay on the couch with his family.

He would never allow a few anonymous people to speak ill of his son's mother, Max loved her too much for that.

Sophie had called it an early night so she could finish packing and offered to put Nico to bed. Neither he or Y/N refused.

Max had tried to get comfortable in bed once he and Y/N had moved to the bedroom but he couldn't manage it.

"What's going on?" Y/N asked as she climbed into bed. "You’re never like this."

"I got a text from Lando today. Apparently, someone on Twitter was talking about you." Max watched as Y/N stopped in her tracks, slowly sitting back against the pillows.

She knew, she had seen those comments.

"I'm assuming that you saw them." She said.

"No, I didn't.” He didn’t need to see them to know that Lando was telling him the truth. “Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.

"Because it doesn't matter." Max wanted to fight her on that. People who didn’t know her shouldn’t have the right to say horrible things about her.

"I'm his mother Max, Nico sees me as his mom. That's why none of those comments matter." She continued. "I never knew how much I needed to hear him call me that until he did today."

Max could only guess for Y/N how different it was to actually hear Nico call her Mama for the first time. It was a first for Nico as well, given that he didn’t have a mother figure in his life until she had come along.

Max can remember the first time that Nico had called him Da. It was barely audible, but Nico had looked right at him when he had said it. He wasn't sure if he was able to breathe after that. Nico could only rely on him to take care of him until Y/N had come into their lives.

He let out a deep breath before opening his arms for her. She pushed back the sheets resting herself against his side, playing with the loose thread at the hem of his gray t-shirt.

“Mijn leeuwin,” He started to say. “Is this something that you want?” He asked.

“Do you want to legally be his mother?” They had talked about this months ago after he already had gone to get her ring made. Making it legal was just another step for them to fully be a family.

“I don’t need to legally be his mom Max.” She stiffened in his arms, seeing the reflection of the diamond just out of the corner of his eyes.

“Do you want to though?” He echoed. He knew that she didn’t need it, she hadn’t in the last few months since they had talked about it the first time. She had never pushed for Nico to call her anything other than the nickname that he had for her.

He looked to see her slightly nod, her eyes glassy with the threat of tears ready to spill from them.

“I’ll give it to you.” He could make it happen, a few calls to his lawyer who would look through the papers that Amelia had left him about giving up her parental right to Nico, talking to Raymond as well and it could all be settled just after the wedding if they moved fast enough.

“Max.” She dropped her head to his shoulder. She didn’t have to say anything else but his name. As she looked up at him all he could see was the love that she had for him fill her eyes.

Neither of them had to say anything in that moment. It was settled, they were going to start the process of Y/N adopting Nico.

It wasn’t long after that they both fell asleep curled up around each other. Exhausted from the high emotions of the day.

the seven + a few others future headcanons

percy:

becomes a high school teacher

teaches high school marine biology (idk how it is in other schools but when we hit sophomore year we got to choose different bio classes ie: marine bio, ag bio, med bio + regular bio)

also teaches the mythology elective and is the swim team coach

annabeth:

we already know this queen is an architect with obvious inspiration from greek architecture

learns how to make blue food for percy and their kids from sally

has traveled all over the world looking at different architecture

learns the basics of many languages so shes able to communicate with the locals

her and leo team up to build a small school near camp half-blood for year rounders so everyone can learn consistently but dw they get summers off

piper:

love her but shes a nepo baby

she doesnt act like it tho

loves her dad to bits but does not like being seen out in public by the paparazzi

marries shel, they dont have kids tho, neither of them want to bring any into the world especially with america’s downfall and the government erasing women and poc rights

him and calypso dont last, maybe a year and a half in they split bc calypso wants to explore the world and leo is very emotionally unstable and calypso has a hard time understanding

they end on good terms but dont ever talk unless its with a group of friends

he goes into a trade to become a mechanic and owns his own shop

starts smoking cigarettes/vaping

his friends dont really approve but they understand he cant quit just yet as hes not in a mental space to do so

goes to therapy with a psychologist whos a demigod that specializes in grieving and war trauma

they all go to therapy but hes the last one to do it

he’s still the ‘happy go lucky’ guy hes always been but as he gets closer w the others they start to see the true sadness in him

piper and him grow a lot closer after jason died and have a big sister little brother relationship

hazel:

my girl stays at camp jupiter

takes nicos place at camp

horse trainer

her and frank also dont work out as a romantic relationship, they felt that the age gap was too much after frank turned 18 and hazel was 15 theyre still friends tho

hazel often visits leo in his shop

as much as leo reminds her of sammy, through therapy she has recognized that theyre separate people and to not push all her past feelings for sammy onto leo

not only does she train horses but she also teaches little kids basic math, science, and history to the younger kids

they all call her ms. hazel

she prefers to teach the really young kids (age 4-7)

wears her hair in different braid styles after BOO

frank:

my friggin HOMIE

i relate to frank a lot personality wise

therefore i think hed be a 4/20 fanatic after BOO

hes not stoned during training or during important camp duties

but otherwise you try talkin to him and you dont really notice until you look and see the far off look and red eyes and he just goes “huh?”

other than that hes a great leader

after he gets his cool new look from mars he takes really good care of his body including consistent exercise and eating really healthily (maybe he has a soft spot for fast food when hes hi)

him joining the military does not make sense to me

he lost his mom to war, and he was in one himself, idk about you but i would not wanna join the military after being the main character in a war

he studies to be a veterinarian for exotic animals

when no one is around he shifts into the animal to find out whats wrong
