in a society that still tells women that it is their duty to prioritize men, male feelings, male perspective, etc, yes it is in fact still radical to say that it's ok for women to go "no fuck that actually"

People do not realize that when we say Israel is a settler-colonial state, we mean it was literally devised in junction with European imperialism around the turn of the century.
Political Zionism was founded by Theodore Herzl. Originally, Zionists were not specifically interested in the land of Palestine as a colonial project. In fact, Herzl was debating making Argentina the focus of mass Zionist migration, which is quite ironic considering Argentina's colonial and Aryanist past. British-controlled Uganda was also offered as a possibility by Joseph Chamberlain, a Conservative imperialist.
To encourage mass Jewish migration to Palestine, he worked with the British, who had recently drove the Ottoman Empire out of the Levant, and now boasted political dominance in the region, thanks to the Sykes–Picot Agreement between the UK, France, Italy, and Russia which covertly authorized British influence in Palestine, which had become a target of colonial expansion. He specifically wished to collaborate with Cecil Rhodes, a British imperialist who played a lead role in colonizing Zimbabwe and Zambia, and later took inspiration from his time spent extracting wealth from Africa as the founder of mining conglomerate the British South Africa Company.
Herzl’s personal goals for Zionism were colonial. He said in a letter to Rhodes:
“You are being invited to help make history. It doesn’t involve Africa, but a piece of Asia Minor; not Englishmen but Jews […] How, then, do I happen to turn to you since this is an out-of-the-way matter for you? How indeed? Because it is something colonial […] I […] have examined this plan and found it correct and practicable. It is a plan full of culture, excellent for the group of people for whom it is directly designed, and quite good for England, for Greater Britain [...]”
At that time, Palestine was predominately populated with Arab Muslims and Christians, as well as Arab Jews (Old Yishuv) and Druze. Jews made up around 6% of the population. The Ottoman government specifically released a manifesto at the start of Zionist migration condemning the colonization, stating:
“[Jews] among us […] who have been living in our province since before the war; they are as we are, and their loyalties are our own.”
The Balfour Declaration of 1917 on behalf of parliament, officially established the British Mandate of Palestine, sowing the seeds for the modern state of Israel, by means of the UK's ongoing occupation of the region.
Zionism was never about promoting Jewish culture or safety; it has always been tied up in Western (settler-)colonial expansion. !من النهر إلى البحر

the way taylor saying “but there’s nothing i hate more than doing what i’ve always done” sums up why so many fade, but she’s still here, at the top of her game after 18 years in the industry. she’s constantly challenging herself and puts so much time and effort into surprising and delighting us every era, and it pays off in spades. getting to witness her evolution in real time is such a privilege.

taash said "they were doing it" and people ran with the interpretation of an npc that doesn't know solas or the history of the elvhenan even when bellara interjected and said, no, that's not right. that's not how it was for the elvhenan. they formed bonds before they had physical bodies. and people ran to doompost or create weird anti-solavellan shit even though mythal & solas refer to each other as old friends and when she releases him there is no tenderness or love in it. it is the act of unchaining a dog from his post, the stepping down of a general. but to each their own ig.
#let the record show i think love was there. do I personally perceive it as romantic / sexual? no.#mythal's perception of love & care is warped in and of itself#i think they loved each other. but she loved what she could take from him and what he could give in terms of service#not because she was romantically into him#also i wish we knew more about her & elgar'nan. her regret prison form says she holds no love for him anymore#and it makes me wonder when that love soured. was it when she was blighted? before that? was that love also born of duty and companionship?#this is the last post i'm gonna make ab this i think#bc i believe people are too caught up in the modern western ideas of love as thing we give solely to our romantic partners#and we literally have a character go ”our perception is warped bc of the age we live in” and some of you are still being purposefully obtuse#and i think trick saying it's up to interpretation is basically admitting EA had them dumb down the game anyway#if everything ab the rise and fall of the evanuris in game#was condensed to five 2min cutscenes it says enough that whatever the writers wanted#was swiftly cut down by corporate dept. basically saying it's in the fans' court now#also bc it's an easy cop out around new players & non solasmancers who are indifferent ab him / dislike him#as a way to appeal thru a more sympathetic lense of look!! he loved and was led astray#not to mention the clear justinia / leliana parallels#and leliana gets angry if you imply she was romantically involved / in love w justinia#and the romance descr when you remake your inq saying the dread wolf could not predict what it would mean to fall IN LOVE#implying he had never fallen in love before or at the very least experienced a romantic love#also him saying drinking from the well would make you a slave and he gets really upset#yet ive seen takes of ”hes doing this for her cus he dgaf ab lavellan” ?? he got mythal killed when he told her ab the blight#whatever feelings of admiration he had for her have rotted. he is literally burdened by his mistakes and his choice in joining her#i feel like if i were a spirit bound and twisted into a weapon i would need my creator to tell me i am Free. i would need that closure#like when cole says its not abuse to bind him if he asks and solas said thats not always true???#if you perceive her interaction w him in vg third act as#anything more than the way justinia released leliana in inq then im sorry maybe youre just obtuse#solavellan#mythal#dragon age meta

I think a very interesting idea and misconception within the fandom is the idea Curly himself spreads the idea about his superb leadership and status as a great idealistic person.
A big personal issue with him is the very idea that he doesn’t think he embodies much of either. Or rather doesn’t think it was meant for him. The status is placed onto him from people like Jimmy, the rest of the crew to an extent and Pony Express themselves. He is never exactly excited or eager to hear praise on those fronts as he’s grappling with the existential woe of imposter syndrome and feeling like he’s done nothing despite moving up in those roles.
We buy into Jimmy’s belief that Curly holds himself up on the same pedestal and cares when he’s placed up there and scared of coming down, not that he doesn’t want to. He also just sees himself as some guy. A guy with a lot on his plate. A guy with a lot of responsibilities he doesn’t want. But still just a normal guy. Good and bad. Average. He’s very honest with himself about his own faults, very aware of the the thoughts plaguing him, both by his dialogue in the HFIM DLC and the awareness he shows to Jimmy before he’s shit down. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s good at expressing it to other people but it is the stuff he actually believes about himself.
The reason he keeps up the facade is for others, the necessity of his job for the Captain to be put together but oddly enough he never tries to reinforce it himself. He falters at the praise and bristles at personal concerns to himself. If you outright asked him if he thought he was a good person or even a good captain, there’s of course the objective answer and then the one he’d have…

Would your Hajime find a cure for Nagitos' illness. Or is it something that just keeps coming back because of how his luck works. Kinda like how two positive/negative magnets repel against one another. Luck against Luck.
i think it would always be teetering on the edge of finding a cure, or new symptoms keep popping up, or somesuch but yeah it feels like it would be a neverending quest what with their complexities

When people are like “I hope my sons have a relationship like Sam and Dean!” I’m just like do you??? Do you really??? Why?!
Even if you don’t see the sexual undertones there, do you actually want your children to have THAT kind of relationship? Let’s take a moment to examine Sam and Dean, shall we?
Sam and Dean are grown men who, with the exception of Jess, have never had any long term deep emotional or romantic relationships. Even from a platonic standpoint, they essentially do not have real friends besides one another. They have bizarre boundaries and Dean literally wouldn’t have sex without getting a thumbs up from Sam and knowing he was watching IN CANON well into their 20s. (There were blackout curtains available for privacy, but Dean left them open so Sam could see their shadows for the entire thing. That’s fucking weird!!!)
Dean literally cannot cope with Sam dying to the extent that he sells his soul, gets tortured in hell, and never truly recovers from the trauma. Sam is so fucked up over Dean dying that he literally tries to open the gates of hell and march in there without a fucking plan just to get him out, or to join him. Sam and Dean do horrific things to themselves and others when their brother is in danger. Sam and Dean are toxic and a danger to everyone around them. They are codependent, entangled, boundary-less monsters who will let the world burn for one another. They are controlling abusive nightmares. They are terrifying and terrible and perfect exactly as they are and are not to be touched, but they are not something to aspire to.
They are men in their 30s-40s who can’t wash a dish without one another.
Are you really sure that that’s the type of relationship you want your children to have? REALLY?

i dont know how you could play veilguard and genuinely think the dalish elves are represented well in that game. you can't even play a dalish rook (except somehow they kinda are dalish, but also you can make them andrastian too, because actually you're not dalish but you do know elven and call them "our gods" repeatedly for some reason but your faith is completely unshaken by all of this regardless), there are no dalish clans in the entire game, the only one we do interact with is massacred off-screen but it's fine this time i guess because at least it's not our fault, and the two dalish companions are treated like shit by the writers and the narrative and the playerbase. the veil jumpers are not the dalish, these are separate groups, there are humans and qunari and dwarves all within the veil jumpers. the dalish are separate, irelin and strife and bellara all left their clans to join the veil jumpers. the actual dalish clan in arlathan is killed after the gods escape, there's literally a whole quest where you have to run around and find their dead bodies.
bellara is punished not once but twice with her brother's death for daring to pursue elven history, just like merrill is punished for restoring the eluvian before her. and then rook is the one that gets to choose whether or not to destroy the archive, despite not even being dalish. yes, bellara is smart and strong and brave but she also is belittled for her beliefs; her struggle at the start is played as a joke, her comments are all punchlines, and when you do get to talk to her she blames herself and feels guilty, and the game gives you no real option to comfort her. it takes the game killing her brother a second time for us to finally get to see her practice her culture without feeling guilty and without being mocked for it at his funeral, because now she's learned her lesson (but also they make sure to throw in a comment about how Weird it is, and also that all the other dalish clans have been doing the Wrong funeral rites, just to make sure we know how silly they are)
outside of davrin and bellara, the dalish are absent. strife and irelin both immediately accept the sudden revelation that their gods are evil with no pushback (and i don't care if this is because they know harding and varric, this is not communicated in the game). and apparently every other dalish elf just accepts it, too. how is this not depicting them as a monolith? did we play different games? dalish clans have their own traditions and cultures and would absolutely have different opinions about their own gods; the only way you get to see something even remotely close to this is if you take bellara and davrin out together and listen for their banters-- which are never mentioned or relevant anywhere else in game.
and no, i don't want the dalish to blindly follow the gods in veilguard, i want the entire narrative to just not be so fucking racist. the oppressed people's gods being revealed to be evil all along is just racist. nothing else can be "fixed" while this is the core plot, and we knew this since trespasser came out, since it was first revealed over 10 years ago. people have been criticizing this choice and the depiction of the dalish for over a decade. and they still continued with this storyline, despite the various other lore bits they did end up changing for better or worse... instead they just wrote out the dalish completely while still managing to perpetuate harmful anti-indigenous tropes that they've been criticized for repeatedly in the past-- that are made even worse with the total absence of any other dalish characters to counteract them.

gonna be harsh for a minute here. i can’t imagine what it would’ve been like for taylor to be on the eras tour, and instead of being celebrated, hearing about how she is some evil person for achieving these amazing things. ofc the breakup led to A Lot of Stuff, but staying would’ve been so damaging too. just thinking about how successful red tv/midnights were, but she was still feeling so down and felt the need to pull back and protect her relationship by not being “Too Big.” just glad that she is in a good place both professionally and personally and is supported instead of being put down.

The thing about a lot of rental regulations and the way property owners approach protections for tenants is that they're often coming from a place of some sort of theoretical balance between landlords and tenants. This appeals to landlords, but it's monumentally fucked from an actual like...moral or human rights standpoint because the landlord is always going to be in a position of power relative to a tenant because they control access to housing which is a basic human need.
Notice periods for example. A lot of places require both tenants and landlords to provide notice when terminating a lease. To some people, this sounds "fair" but in reality there is no reason to require a tenant to give notice when leaving. Particularly in situations such as where I currently live that if you've been in the same rental accommodation for awhile, you can have to give well over a month's notice to your landlord when moving out. Yet at the same time, most other landlords want you to move in immediately and will turn down applicants who can't move in right away.
You can give your notice before you start searching for a new apartment, but then you run the risk that if you don't find something by the time your notice period ends, you are homeless and your landlord has a new tenant ready to move in. This risk is especially high in a situation like the current housing crisis where you very well may not be able to find a new apartment in a month.
It makes far more sense for a tenant to be allowed to terminate a lease whenever they find a new place with minimal notice. At worst for the landlord, the apartment is empty for a couple of weeks and they "lose" money (really only actually losing money if they still have a mortgage on it. If they own it outright then they're just not getting free money from it at the moment. Either way, it's their responsibility to set aside money for such possible expenses). At worst for the tenant, they are kicked out and have nowhere to live.
This is why any sort of equivalence between tenants and landlords is stupid and the pro-landord take of "there are bad tenants too!!" or "landlords should be able to more freely evict people to get rid of tenants who don't pay/cause damage!!!" is a bad take.
There will never be any sort of equivalence as long as the worst case scenario for the landlord is that they have to spend some money and the worst case scenario for the tenant is that they are literally homeless.
