whenever i think about sam and dean confessing to each other, i just can’t see dean being the one to do it first. maybe if it were life or death, maybe if a curse forced his hand or it was the only way to save sam — something extreme. but not in a quiet, everyday moment. not when he has a choice. in my head, it’s always sam who says it first. he’s the little brother, and even though that doesn’t make it easier, it gives him a kind of vulnerability that dean would never allow himself.

dean’s too weighed down by his Big Brother Complex to ever just say it. like he’d be thinking, “i’m supposed to protect sam, not feel that way about him.” he’d be spiraling over how wrong it is, how he should “know better,” and how messed up it could make sam feel. so instead of taking the risk, he’d just bury it deep down next to all his other emotional damage and hope it suffocates quietly. even if sam did love him back, dean wouldn’t wanna put that on him. he’d be terrified that sam would go along with it just to make him happy or out of some warped sense of loyalty, and that thought alone would eat him alive. so yeah, sam would 100% have to make the first move — not just for anything to happen, but so dean could finally breathe and not feel like he’s coercing sam, dragging him into something he didn't ask for. only then could dean let himself believe it wasn’t wrong. that it was something they both wanted.
