Sam, at six years old, is excited to go to school. He thinks he'll meet new friends. John tells both him and Dean to watch their backs and walk to school. Monday to Friday. Dean is only ten but he walks Sam to class and picks him up too. Sam holds Dean's hand tight, and Dean just smiles at him with no words said.

Sam, at eight years old, finds out why John is really always out. He thinks school is his only escape from home, and as long as Dean is there, no matter how many schools they go to, he'll be okay. Dean is twelve now, and he's hanging out with girls more than usual, but Sam can understand it. No one likes boring, and Dean is supposed to be cool. Sam thinks Dean is cool. Dean doesn't pick him up anymore.

Sam, at fourteen, hates school. Dean tries to coax him out by telling him he'll be by his side all the time, and Sam only curls further into the balled up position he's pushed his skin and bones into, for warmth, he says. For familiarity. Dean is eighteen now, and this is the first time in a week that he's come back home. Sam can't bring himself to look at Dean.

Sam, at seventeen, realizes that nowhere is home enough, and he'll never be able to fit in. His dad rarely comes home and Dean is out for weeks now; in bars picking up girls, scamming people for their money at pool. Sometimes both Dean and Dad are home, and Sam thinks it'll be much easier if he did it when both of them are here. He confesses he's going to stanford, and John tells him he has no place in this family. He's free. He feels it in his gut.

Sam, at twenty-three, has a knife lodged in his spine, and he wishes he could curl back into his balled up position. Dean tries to coax him out one last time, and Sam doesn't answer just like he did at eight. Dean cradles him like he used to when he was six, and Sam's hand comes up to squeeze Dean's. Dean let's out a sob. Sam isn't warm anymore, just like when he was seventeen.

Dean, at twenty-seven, lays Sam down on the old worn bed, lifts his cold arm up and shovels himself underneath the space he made to be closer to his little brother. There's the silent flick of the safety going off. And Bobby finds them that way.

Dean shouldn't be thinking that his brother standing up there with their preacher in that stupid white robe is hot but he does. He shouldn't have felt a tightness in his stomach When Sam asked their dad if he could be an alter boy but he did and now he Can't stop thinking about it. He Can't stop thinking about how Sam looks in confession, and what he confesses about. Does Sam have sinful thoughts? What kind of thoughts does he consider to be sinful? Does he sit in confession and tell the priest about how he touches himself like Dean knows he does?

Dean would totally and completely miss Sam after he went to Stanford. Feeling a little pang in his chest when Dean goes to do laundry and finds none in Sam's basket. He would accidentally make two helpings of food. Sometimes, when he missed him really deeply, he would set the second helping in front of Sam's place, hoping that he was going to come in and eat it any moment. He would sleep in Sam's bed and wrack his brain with what he did to drive him away. He knew it was because of their dad, but Dean had a secret little hope that he was enough to make Sam stay, and he never understood why he wasn't.

I just wanna rant for a sec. The TikTok ban in the U.S. is infuriating. I scrolled til it kicked me out tonight. I downloaded all my favorite Supernatural, Jared, and Wincest edits so I can still have some form of happy. Living in the U.S is horrible. We have other countries protesting on our behalf as well as protests happening all over the country itself. Our U.S. government would rather ban an app than save us Americans in any type of way whether it be raising our minimum wage (which is still $7.25/hour and has been since 2009), giving us affordable healthcare, affordable living, lowering the cost of groceries, protecting us women, protecting kids from school shootings, the black lives matter movement, gender affirming care, any fucking thing. But their panties were in a twist over a goddamn app. I’m furious. I learned so much. I connected with like minded individuals all over the world. It kept me from being in a dark place. I watched so much content and learned a lot about my favs Jared and Jensen. And I don’t wanna be on Meta platforms because of the censorship. I’m pissed. We are now considered American refugees. Something I truly did not expect when I was growing up. This is not the land of the free. This is the home of fascism. Fuck every single member of the U.S. government. Fuck Mark Zuckerberg. Fuck Elon Musk. Fuck the billionaires. Fuck the elite, rich, and wealthy. Tumblr has always been a home to me. Don’t you change for anything Tumblr. I’m begging. You are my last safe space.
