tom and greg def both have a habit of unthinkingly referring to any hotel they're ever staying at at any given time as "home" out of like... subconscious domestic instinct. like instead of "when we get back to the room" it's "when we get back home" and they might realize what they said a minute later and feel a little embarrassed but neither of them bring it up to each other bc it feels so good to hear in a way they can't explain

drunk dean getting a tattoo with sam's name in a cholo lettering style and sending sam a photo of it along with a "sammy i miss you". the next morning dean is kinda sad because he didn't answer, but a few days later sam replies with a photo of a tattoo that says "d.w" located on his lower back <3

i was rewatching s13 ep21 last night with my mom and something struck me after seeing dean’s reaction to sam’s death. have you ever noticed how when anyone else dies (john, bobby, cas, mary etc), dean’s instinctive reaction is to resort to anger? he’s furious, breaking things, he’s snappy with everyone including sam, but this is his way of dealing with the loss.

however, when it’s sam who’s dying, he does a complete 180 and his reaction is just… emptiness. that is the best way i can describe it. he’s empty. his eyes are empty. he doesn’t feel anything anymore (expect of course encompassing sadness but even that is hidden behind his vacant stare). take his reaction in that ep after they leave sam in the cave with the vampires. he literally doesn’t speak a word to anyone. the first words we see him speaking are “we need to go back and get his body”. literally the only thing he was concerned with was getting back to his brother as soon as possible. not even his reunion with mary managed to make him feel anything. he was just… an empty shell.

and i’m thinking this difference in reactions is because sam is the other half of his soul. without sam, he’s just empty. without the other half of him he’s not dean anymore in a way. his soul stayed back with sam in that cave and i think that is pretty telling of how dean views everyone else vs how he views his brother. dean can live without everyone else but he cannot live without sam, without his other half (canonically speaking). that’s why he reverts to deals, to killing himself, to extreme methods of bringing sam back and that’s why we don’t see him do the same things for anyone else.

and i think that’s beautiful.

I have such a spot, can’t say soft per se because I’m not sure if it’s that or something far worse, for Sam, when he was still smaller, being folded and tucked into Dean’s too big jacket and his big brother’s arms keeping him safe locked away so he can’t escape and close. Or Dean standing behind him, still mountains taller, and keeping Sammy pressed to his front with arm around his waist, his big hand and thick fingers splayed low on Sam’s baby brother belly, not enough to be out right weird but just enough to get a second glance and a worried look by their dad.

We all know that sam sleeps on the bed thats farthest from the door, i'm thinking about young teenchesters where, after a really hard and scary hunt, (maybe sam was taken captive or he was hurt badly,) dean sleeps in the bed with sam to keep him safe, and sam waking up halfway through the night to find john wrapped around them both, and sam has never felt more safe

When Sam started teething, Dean didn't know what to do, Sam would bite him and leave little bruises until Dean decided to bite him back, not hard but definitely a bite. He would have raised Sam with the 'treat me as you want me to treat you' mindset. That's where Sam gets his super strong sense of compassion for others and even monsters. Dean was a kid when he started taking care of Sam, and in true brother fashion, you bite me, I bite you.
