Tacking onto all of this, I do find it off-putting that a lot of fics ignore that he had a life before HYDRA and before the war. It only ever seems to come up in relation to Steve but not his own sense of self.
If he is going to define himself by consumer choices, why not explore what it means that he actually does have a sense of self within that paradigm...but all the things he wants to choose for himself are gone, lost to the passage of time? Why is his sense of self and identity less valid just because the ravages of time and capitalism have rendered all his preferences and choices unavailable? Is he really free to define himself if his options are limited to what is available today, but do not include what feels true to him and his live experiences?
I will add that I also suspect a lot of these fics are being heavily informed and biased by the personal experiences of the community that they were written by and for. In short, this community has way more survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence that it has survivors of war and multigenerational poverty, and it shows. The way fandom in general tends to understand and write PTSD has less to do with war -- even the specifically American military-industrial version of it -- and more in common with surviving abuse.
I think some of that is an understandable product of the story. Most survivors of war and soldiers with PTSD were not in a long-term, on-going psychological manipulation that systematically and intentionally deconstructed their sense of self; yet that description, while extreme, is very applicable to what it feels like to be in and escape from an abusive relationships (whether a family dynamic or an intimate partner relationship).
There are many significant differences between "abuse/assault survivor PTSD" vs "war/external conflict PTSD," but I think one of the most relevant differences is the nature of the cause of trauma denying victims autonomy, agency, and self-determination.
This may not be easy to see at first because the military is so conformist. Everyone has the same uniform, code of conduct, and often the exact same lifestyle or schedule. But that's relatively superficial; it's almost a stereotype that as soon as soldiers with their first military paychecks get off base for the first time, they make a lot of bad but self-determining purchases like fancy cars and high-end consumer electronics. One of the reasons why the military as an institution is so enduring is because after this initial period of intense conformity and trauma, it's often a path of self-determination (or at least marketed as such): loans for housing, support for education, multiple career paths, etc. (The flipside being, of course, that the military can just as easily lock you into a career you don't want, or the trauma from it can make achieving any semblance of life after violence anywhere from difficult to impossible.) Meanwhile, abusive families and relationships are often exactly the opposite: superficially giving victims all the freedom in the world or only very few restrictions (at least as compared to the military), yet in practice locking victims into a specific lifestyle or path preferred by the abuser.
This manifests in the way a lot of fanfic authors write Bucky recovering from the Winter Soldier ordeal. He exercises a lot of autonomy and agency in his superficial consumer choices, yet often exercises very little real agency in the course of his life. Either he remains a superhero / supersoldier of some variety, or he has to take the extreme measure of completely dropping off the grid (and out of public eye, and often well away from everyone else in the world) to achieve any sense of peace.
A lot of Bucky Recovery fics don't really feel like a traumatized veteran or even traumatized abuse survivor moving on with their life or recovering anything significant. Instead, they have the same vibes as a military fresh recruit making dumb high-interest big purchases off-base while rushing back to base in time for PT, or someone in an abusive relationship celebrating a fancy haircut their partner likes while putting their education and career on hold for said partner. A lot of these fics feel like they make Bucky celebrate superficial appearances of autonomy and agency to obfuscate just how little self-determination he really has even after escaping HYDRA.
In a weird way, this feels like an apt metaphor not for the character but for the authors. Much like Bucky post-Winter Soldier, they cannot fathom a life of true independence from capitalism, and so envision the closest thing to it they can imagine while still remaining under the umbrella of capitalism and calling that freedom.
I am still pretty buried in work, but dropping in to comment on a trope Iâve seen popping up again and again in CA: TWS fic, which is: the horror and totality of Buckyâs deconstruction as a person is shown through the revelation that he doesnât know what [food, clothes, music, coffee, etc] he likes, and a significant part of his reconstruction involves correcting this.Â
This is very attractive trope. I enjoy reading it! But I want to turn a critical eye on it, and on my own enjoyment of it. This will surprise no one whoâs been reading my blog for a long time, since Iâm persistently and heavily critical of the selfist/consumerist ideology that underlies Western capitalist society. And thatâs whatâs going on here, really, I think: this trope is an expression of our understanding of what it means to be a person, and our anxieties about person-ness.

!ALSO PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOW WHO IS THE ARTIST BEHIND THIS FANART OF ACE IN THE BANNER LET ME KNOW SO I CAN CREDIT THEM!
Autum is just around the corner, and it is time to get back to school. You canât wait for this school year to finish and be done with high school once and for all. It is not like you have had the worst experiences in the past four years, but you are ready for something new and mostly to leave the pretentious school your parents have signed you in. You are desperate for something new and exciting. Your town isnât small, quite the opposite, but you still want to move and live somewhere else after you graduate this year.
Parking your car in the parking lot of your school you let out a long sigh. âSame faces, same casesâ you thought to yourself. Grabbing your big bag full of text and notebooks, which you must now leave in your locker, from the back seat of your car, you hopped off and shut the door. After locking the car, you start making your way to school. Pulling your skirt down as you feel it raising up, you sigh annoyed once again. You have always hated school uniforms, and how unfair it is that girls must always wear skirts and the boys pants like you are in the 60s. At least the colors of it arenât so bad â a dark royal blue with a blazer in the same color and a white shirt under it. You are always wearing over the knee stockings under it and not a full set of stockings, which has caused you troubles a few times. Some old-school teachers found this quite inappropriate, and it goes against the school dress code, but this hasnât stopped you from wearing them again and again.
The school is known for being one of the most prestigious in town. And while you can disagree with how true this is, your parentsâ biggest pride is that their daughter gets to study there. Which you never get because they are very laid-back parents who support you and your rebellious nature. You have wanted to move to a different one many times, but you never voiced it as you donât want to disappoint them. But now it doesnât matter as all you need to do is push through the next nine months. Taking a step inside the old but well-maintained building you make your way to your locker. Putting the code in the padlock you have, you unlocked it and quickly emptied your heavy bag in it. Before you close it, you pull your phone to check what class you are having first so you can grab the textbook you need.
âLiterature.â Someone says behind you. You recognize the voice immediately and turn around.
âThank you, I would be lost without you.â You reply as you wrap your arms around your best friend Robin. Pulling away from the hug you grab your literature textbook and close your locker as you and Robin start walking towards your class. You have been friends since the beginning of high school, from the first day of school you two click immediately. Since then, you have been unseparated, she is like the sister you have never got to get. This was the first summer where you both didnât have enough time because of work to hang out every day but it was worth it as now you have enough saved money to spend on whatever your heart desired.
âHow are you doing today, excited for the last first day of high school?â She giggles as she sees you expression.
âYou better help me get through this year, because if we donât go to the same university, Iâm offing myself.â You joke with her, even though there is a bit of truth in what you say. Even if you both want to study for different programs you have made an agreement that you will still be at the same university. You arenât one of the most social people to begin with despite your bubbly nature, so being in a totally new environment without your best friend will be like a living hell for you.
âOf course you will get through it, you have me after all.â She smiles and nudges your side as you enter your literature class. There arenât many people here yet, but your eyes draft to the back of the room. On the last single desk is sitting a guy who you have never seen before. You and Robin take your seats in the middle of the room next to each other. Turning your head back you take another look at the guy over your shoulder. With one hand on the desk and the other on the windowsill with his body leaning on the back of the chair and manspreading his legs he looks quite tall. His dark raven black hair with messy curls falling freely around his frowned face which is turned to the window so you can only observe his side profile. His nose is straight, and his lips are full and somehow so alluring to your attention. Another thing that catches your attention is his freckles which thanks to the lighting you are able to notice even though he is two rows behind you. Turning your head slowly to Robin, who is scrolling on her phone, you nudge her with your elbow.
âHey, Rob. Who is this guy on the back of the class?â You lean closer to her and whisper so only she can hear you. She raises her head from her phone and looks at the back of the class, squinting her eyes so she can take a better look at the guy.
âNo, idea. Maybe he is the new guy. I heard some people from our year talking about having a new classmate.â Robin turns back to you with a shrug.
âI didnât know we are having a new classmate.â
âMe, too. I found out today when I came, so it must be him.â She says and turns her attention back to her phone. You canât stop but take another look at him. His position hasnât changed but the moment you look at him, his eyes move and lock with yours. His stare is pierced, your eyes widen from embarrassment and quickly look away. Even for the ten seconds that you were able to see his face, he was handsome. You canât remember the last time when a guy has had your interest so quickly by just his looks, but this one seems to have this effect on you.
Your thoughts are interrupted by the loud annoying laughter by no other but your least favorite person to exists in this school â Isuka. Rolling your eyes once you see her, you open your notebook and start drawing some doodles just so you donât need to look at her. Taking her seat right next to you she brushes her ginger hair with the back of her hand and smirks.
âHey, (Y/N). Robin.â She says and her dumb protĂŠgĂŠs â Lyla and Nora laugh along with her. You just side-eye her and say nothing. âI missed you, two. Especially you (Y/N), how were working as a lifeguard at the kidâs pool this summer? Did my daddy pay you good?â Isuka made fun of you in her typical arrogant tone with a fake smile on her face.
âHe obviously didnât pay good enough the nannies you had growing up.â You finally look at her and give her the same fake smile she is giving you. You have known Isuka since the start of high school and since day one she picked on you for whatever reason. It isnât some kind of rivalry, sometimes her comments are pure bullying, but you have never let her affect you. The only time she almost got under your skin was when you caught her with your so-called ex-boyfriend making out by the pool at the graduationâs party a few months ago. You didnât care so much about him and what he did as much as with whom he did it. But this is in the past now, you are more than glad that you donât have to deal with this guy anymore, but still every time you think of it your blood boils only because of the disrespect this guy has caused you.
âHm, be careful there, do I need to remind you who Derek choose?â She crosses her arms over her chest as she tries to irritate you more. Instead, you laugh out loud â does she really think that a guy like Derek is the prize?
âIsuka, if you think a guy like Derek is the goal, then I really pity you from the bottom of my heart.â You coo with face sympathy for her which leaves her mouth open. Robin starts giggling next to you. Isuka frowns with her eyebrows ready to say something, but the teacher comes in and the whole class goes silent. You havenât noticed that everyone has arrived until now.
âYou got her good this time.â Robin leans closer to you and whispers.
âIâm so sick and tired of this spoiled bitch.â You whine quietly only for Robin to hear you. She only nods with her head as the teacher starts to speak.
âAs you all are aware, this year is the most important for you all, especially given the fact that one of your major exams is on English and literature. If I havenât been strict enough with you till now, then this year will be totally different.â You canât stop yourself from snorting and whispering to Robin while the teacher continues with her âwelcome backâ speech.
âYeah, itâs not like she has ever been nice to us at least once. Old wanna be Barbie.â Both you and Robin shared a quite laugher, but it is quickly interrupted by your teacher.
âDid I say something funny Miss (Y/L/N)?â The sixty something woman, with long thin blond hair and badly done makeup for her age looks stern at you as she waits for your response. âCare to share with the class?â
âI think I will keep this one for myself, Mrs. Kenet.â You half shrug with one shoulder while giving her a smile. The teacher only gives you a warning look before continuing.
âI donât want to waste more time in meaningless talks so before we start, please the new student, stand up and introduce yourself.â Mrs. Kenet gestures to the guy in the back to stand and introduce himself with her face unpleased as always. Everyone turns their heads to the black-haired guy waiting for him to stand up. You are carefully observing him as he clears his throat and stands up.
âMy name is Ace and Iâm the new student, obviously.â His voice is low and raspy but still deep. Now as he stands up you are able to take a better look at him â his shirt isnât properly tuck in his pants as the school demands and its sleeves are rolled which is another thing some teachers might complain about. Also, the tie that the guys are demanded to wear tightly around their necks is very loose which is going to cause him to receive a comment from our teacher immediately as she is one of the demanding ones. You move your eyes to where your teacher is standing, and you can see her already frowning over her book with all the studentsâ names in it.
âMr. Portgas havenât you read the schools guidebook about the dress code?â She asks as she shoots him with a very judgmental look.
âI did.â Ace replies, putting his hands in his pockets and shrugging as he doesnât see the problem with his outfit. In his eyes he has done everything as it says in the stupid seventy-page school guidelines book he received two weeks ago, and his mom made sure he reads it. He is wearing the stupid school uniform and the suffocating tie around his neck, what more this old hag wants from him.
âI will ask once Mr. Portgas â tuck your shirt, roll down your sleeves and fix your tie.â Mrs. Kenet straitens her posture and crosses her arms over her chest as she starts taping with her finger on her forearm waiting for Ace to do what he is told. He bites the insides of his cheeks and clenches his jaw as he tries to not cause himself problems from the first day and the first class in the new school. After all he has promised his mother that he would behave⌠as much as he can. Rolling his sleeves down and tucking the front of the shirt in his pants he keeps his eyes on the old hag which is now on his list with teachers he will not stand. Fixing the tie last, he gives her a âare you happy nowâ look to which Mrs. Kenet nods and lets him sit back down. Fighting the urge to roll his eyes at her, Ace unintentionally looks at you and your eyes lock once again. Why are you staring at him again? Does he have something on his face?
He overheard your interaction with the bratty girl earlier and thought it was funny. Though, he canât help but notice that you are somewhat troublemaker yourself. The interaction with the bratty girl and then the teacher, you are not one of the amenable ones. On top of it, you checking him out doesnât go unnoticed either. But Ace is planning to stay out of trouble this year, mainly because he has promised his mother, who had to move to entirely new city just because her son got expelled from his previous school for bad behavior. Still, he canât move his eyes from (Y/N), if he catches your name correctly. As last time, you are the one who breaks the eye contact first and turns your attention to whatever the teacher is talking about. His eyes stay on you a little longer and draft lower on your body. White knee stockings with a little bow on the side â this isnât very âdress codeâ friendly, you should definitely get scold for this. âTroublemakerâ he thinks to himself as he opens his notebook and starts writing whatever Mrs. Kenet is writing on the board.
Squinting his eyes to see better, Ace sighs as it is pointless to do so, so he pulls his glasses case from his backpack and places them on the bridge of his nose. He hates them but lenses irritate his eyes way too much, so he must suffer with the glasses. The class finishes in forty minutes so the moment the bell rings Ace is one of the first students to get up and leave. You are getting up from your chair when you feel someone bumping into you accidentally.
âShit, sorry.â The deep low voice behind you says. You donât have much time to react as Ace, if you remember correctly his name, is already leaving the room. You follow him with your eyes as he leaves the room â he is definitely something, but what exactly you canât pinpoint yet. But he is cute, especially with glasses on. He doesnât give off the nerd vibe but there is this thing about him that tells you he is the type which prefers to be by themselves.
âEasy there.â You hear a mocking voice behind you. You turn around to meet with Isukaâs insolent smile. âI saw you eyeing the new guy, but if you think you have a chance with a guy like him, I really pity you from the bottom of my heart.â She repeats the exact same words youâve told her earlier. Instead of giving her the satisfaction of offending you in any type of way, you just eye her from the top to bottom and snort out laughter. This causes her to stomp with her foot on the floor like a toddler. You and Robin are grabbing your stuffs to leave the room when Isukaâs annoying voice fills up the space. âMrs. Kenet, (Y/N) is wearing again unappropriated stockings to school.â Isuka points her finger at you. Mrs. Kenetâs voice echoes through the room as she calls out your name.
âMiss (Y/L/N), how many times you must be told that these revealing cloths are prohibited in school.â Her whole face frowns and gets red from anger. âDonât you have any dignity for yourself, after all this is a prestige school not some strip club.â She screams in your face. You glance at Isuka who is passing by you with her entourage while giving you dirty looks. âListen, when Iâm talking to you Miss (Y/L/N).â
âIâm sorry Mrs. Kenet, but in my defense, they are quite high and not revealing.â It is pointless to even try to defend yourself, as Mrs. Kenet wonât take your word for anything as she doesnât like you in general; not only because you never listen and continue to wear your high knee stockings but because you always have something to say in your defense.
âI think you are begging for detention from the first day Miss (Y/L/N).â You are about to protest against her words when you feel Robin tugging you on the arm. Turning your head to her you see the way she is begging you to not get in trouble from the first day, so you just sigh. Lowering your head you murmured under your breath an apology. âI didnât hear you Miss.â
âI said, Iâm sorry and that I will go and change my stockings.â
âIf I see you around the corridors today and you are still with these you will be staying after classes, you understand.â Her voice was stern and cold as aways.
âYes, Mrs. Kenet I understand.â You reply and she lets you and Robin finally go as the bell for your next class rings. Walking as fast as possible, so you are not late for your next class, you are fuming. âThis bitch Isuka if she didnât say shit the old hag wasnât going to notice anything.â
âI know, but also arenât you tired of getting detentions for the same thing over and over again?â Robin is keeping your tempo as the biology classroom is on the other wing of the big school building so you two must cross almost half the school to reach it.
âWhich side are you on?â You look at her with disbelief even though you know she has a point.
âOf course, yours. But getting detention every time about the same thing should ring some bell in your mind.â She giggles next to you as you make your way to the classroom. Walking in the room just a second before the second bell goes off to indicate that the class starts, the only desk available for you and Robin to take is the one in the front row. Both of you groan as you hate sitting in the front row, but you have no choice as your teacher walks into class and tells you to sit down. Before you sit down you see Isuka sitting next to the new guy, who seems pretty uninterested in the surroundings around him.
Ace notices you, looking in his direction before you sit down at your desk. He also notices the way your face grimaces when you and your friend realize you have to take the front row desk, but he does understand your reaction as he will never be caught sitting in any other row but the last. Ace is the loner guy in school as he never finds anyone interesting enough to hang around with in school. All the friends he has are either from his basketball club or friends he has from his childhood; with classmates he never gets along with, so after ninth grade he has stopped even trying to befriend anyone from his school. Now on top of it, as an even bigger punishment his mom has made him go to this snobby school, which if it isnât for his high grades Ace would never have been accepted, especially with his record of bad behavior on school grounds. But they did and now he is stuck here. On top of it the bratty annoying girl sat down with him without even bothering to ask if she could or not. But it doesnât matter now it is not like he is paying her any attention no matter how hard she tries, all her questions are either met with a hum or a nod from him. She should get the hint.
****
Before you know it the first last day of high school is finished and you and Robin made your way to your car. The weather is still nice and warm outside even with the typical Autum breeze.
âAny plans for tonight?â You ask Robin once you both enter your car. She shakes her head and yawns.
âNo, Iâm actually extremely tired I just want to go home and sleep until tomorrow morning.â She says while putting on her seatbelt on. You do the same as her before you start the car and drive to her home. âBy the way, Isuka wasnât the only one who noticed you checking out the new guy.â Robinâs playful voice gets you flushing as you try biting on your lips to stop the smile that is slowly growing on your face. âOh, are you crushing on him?â Her voice rises a bit as she sees how you are trying your best to hide your smile.
âNo, no Rob, nothing like this.â You shake your head with your eyes focusing on the road. âHe is cute, but crushing is too much, I just saw him today and we havenât even talked yet.â
âYes, he is kind of cute.â Robin agrees with you, but you throw her a quick surprised glance.
âKind of? He is super cute, especially when he put those glasses on.â
âOh, I didnât know you have a thing for nerds.â Your friend is quick to tease you.
âI doubt that he is a nerd, an outsider yes, but a nerd no.â You respond while parking in front of Robinâs house, she lives very close to school, so it usually takes no more than fifteen minutesâ drive or even less if there is no traffic.
âHow did you come with the conclusion that he is an outsider?â Robin asks with surprise in her eyes as she barely paid any attention to the guy today.
âHe didnât spoke or try to interact with anyone today, and at the same time he didnât seem to be the shy nervous type, you know?â You tell your observations of the guy to your friend, and she is more than impressed, this is not a typical behavior from you.
âGirl, when did you manage to observe this much of the guy?â Robin turns on her seat and waits for your response as she canât believe what she is hearing.
âOh, come on. Iâm just very observative.â You try to brush it off, but Robin is not buying it.
âSure, whatever you say.â She smirks and opens the door hopping off the car. âYou know, now Iâm quite interested in where this last year of high school will lead us.â Your friend raises playfully her eyebrows, and you laugh at her.
âRobin, I said he is cute, not that Iâm interested in him.â
âYet. Plus, I didnât say anything about the guy, but you just did.â She winks at you as she closes the door without giving you the chance to response.
********
âMa, Iâm home.â Ace screams once he enters his home. Taking his shoes and jacket off he walks into the new apartment his mom rented when they moved to the new city. Ace hasnât gotten used to the place yet, but it was because of him and his behavior as to why they had to move in first place.
âIâm in the kitchen, honey.â His mom calls for him from the kitchen which is also where they are having their dining aera as well. Entering the room Ace spots his mother next to the kitchen counter chopping some vegetables as something is boiling in the pot on the stove. When she sees her son entering the room her smile grows. âHow was the first day? Please tell me you made some friends.â She looks at her son with pleading eyes as she knows how close off Ace likes to be and how he barely let anyone get close to him. âAlso -â She points with the knife in her hands towards her cheek, indicating to her son to give her a kiss. Ace rolls his eyes but gives his mom a little peck on the cheek. âNow tell me about school.â His mom, Rouge encourages him. She is one of those people who is always with a smile on their face, her whole existence is screaming warmth and calmness. But this smile can easily go away the moment she enters âmama bearâ mode or when Ace really⌠really pisses her of which in the past two years since his father died, he has been doing more frequently than he intended to.
Taking a seat in one of the highchairs on the other side of the kitchen counter Ace just grunts with a shrug of his shoulders. Nothing interesting happened today. All he wants is for these nine months to go by as quickly as possible. Rouge snaps her fingers in front of her sonâs face taking him out of his trance. Â
âNothing interesting mom. School, what else to say.â He grabs one of the uncut chili peppers and takes a bite of it.
âOh, Ace. Come on, itâs a new school. Did you not meet anyone interesting? How are the teachers? Something.â His mom nags him. Sometimes she misses her sonâs bright side. Not like Ace was very open with people when his dad was alive, but he was always energetic around his parents. Rouge knows how much his dadâs death affects her son, but she prays every day and night for the day when her boy will be back to his old bubbly self at least around her and his closes friends and family. Nowadays the best she is getting is five to six sentences from him and the rest is grunts and hums.
âWell, there is this old hag literature teacher that is pain in the ass, but other than this nothing, mom.â He grabs another chili pepper as they are his favorite. âWhat are you making tonight?â
âChili beans and ground beef. And before you say anything I did buy with only ten percent fat, okay. I donât want another lecture on proteins and fats.â She points with the knife in her hand at him warningly and jokingly. Ace snots out a laugh and shakes his head, reaching for another chili pepper but his mom slaps his hand away. âStop, there will be nothing left if you continue eating them like apples. Now, tell me more about school, come on. Okay one bad teacher, you will survive her. How about the classmates?â She asks as she takes the cutting board with the veggies and walks to the stove where the pot is, adding them to it. Ace starts playing with his fingers as he props his elbows on the counter and thinks for a second about his classmates. The guys are mostly rich spoiled brats, and the girls are no different. Well, one catches his interest, but he doesnât plan to share this part with his mom at all.
âRich spoiled kids, ma. Is there anything more to be said?â He raises his brow at his mom who rolls her eyes at him.
âStop acting like you are some poor ghetto guy.â Her late husband has made sure that there is enough for both her and their son to have a good and stable future before he passes away. They arenât the richest out there, but with what Roger has left, just her job alone covers all their bills and needs, so all the money will go for Aceâs education in university.
âIâm not mom. Iâm just stating the facts.â Seeing that his mom is in a good mood Ace decides to test his luck. âBy the way⌠it would be very nice if I can have my car keys back⌠you know as it would be way easier to go to school.â His momâs laughter fills up the space once she hears her sonâs lame attempt to get his car back. After getting expelled from his old high school, Rouge has taken away his car keys as she knew that this would make her son behave at least until he gets them back.
âI told you, depends how you behave you might have them back in six months.â She leans with her hands on the countertop and smiles at her son. As much as he looks like her, he has his dadâs dark eyes and hair which make him the perfect mixture of them both. âBut good try Ace, you still have like what four or three months left⌠if you behave.â Rouge reaches with her hand and ruffles Aceâs dark messy curls. Ace pulls his head away from his motherâs hand and gets up from the chair.
âWhen is this going to be done?â He points with his eyes towards the pot on the stove.
âMax an hour, I think.â The only response Rouge receives is a grunt from her son before he makes his way to his room. âOh, Ace⌠what am I going to do with you?â It pains her heart to see him like this, but his destructive behavior needs to get under control.
Rogue still remembers the phone call from the police station she received one Tuesday afternoon. Not only had her son got into another fight on the school property but on top of it he had broken some classmate of his arm. But that wasnât the reason Ace was locked up by the police. He was also high on weed at school, and when someone from his class called the police on him, they found two blunts in his wallet, so he got cuffed immediately. On top of it, the family of the kid wanted to start a case against Ace, but with a lot of pleading from Rouge side, she managed to convinced them not to open the case. Instead, Rouge paid for the kidâs expenses during his recovery. And with a lot of connections and Rogerâs best friend, Reyleigh â Rogue succeeded to safe her sonâs criminal and school record, but she wasnât planning on letting him go easy from this situation.
The whole summer Ace was working on two jobs so he could pay back his momâs expenses on lawyers, the medical bills on the guyâs arm he broke, and he had to go to evening classes every Monday and Thursday so he could graduate eleventh grade. Not only this, but every month since then, Rouge has been making Ace take a drug test. If she finds out one more time that he is taking anything drug related he will be out of the house even if it would hurt her more than him. She doesnât want to see her son destroying his future.
Entering his room and closing the door behind him Ace starts to take off the annoying school uniform. Changing to more comfortable clothes he lays on his bed and just stares at the ceiling. He misses his old town and friends. Even there he hasnât been the most social person, especially in school, but still he had his friends, while here he has none. He has his mom, but it is not the same. And this new pretentious school is killing him, and it only has been a day since he has started. But he will have to push it through, after all he doesnât want to see his momâs disappointed face ever again. He might be everything else, but Ace isnât stupid, he knows that his behavior is not only hurting him but his mother too. Because of this he must fix his ways of living not only for his sake, but also for the sake of the people who care for him.
Without realizing it, his mind drifts to you â the girl with the white knee length stockings. He canât deny that he finds you attractive, but he isnât planning on messing around with any girls any time soon and especially one from his class. You are some kind of a rebel because all day he hasnât seen another girl with knee stockings like yours, all the other girls are wearing normal ones that cover every inch of their legs. It is either this or you are desperate for male attention, but something is telling him that you arenât the type to care who gives you attention and who doesnât. But his first impression of you is clear â âtroublemakerâ and he doesnât need troubles right now.
After some time scrolling on his phone Ace hears his mom calling from the kitchen. He gets up and goes to see what the fuzz is about.
âWhat, ma?â He asks as he enters the kitchen.
âPlease, put the plates on the table. The meal is done, it just needs to chill down a bit and I need to make a phone call.â She washes her hands and dries them on the towel hung on the kitchen cabinet under the sink. Ace just nods and starts preparing the table for him and his mom.
********
It has been almost two months since school has started again and it is killing you. All you want is to be done with this particular school, but just seven more months left. The subjects feel harder this year than the last and you usually donât have any problem studying but this year is taking a tool on you, and you have barely started. Walking into biology class early in the morning knowing that Robin is sick at home today isnât very pleasant. She always lets you know earlier when she is not coming to school due to sickness or whatever reason as she knows how much you hate being in classes without her. But today you decide to go anyway, as you have biology, literature and PE, which means you are having three classes with Ace, which means that today might not be so bad even without Robin next to you.
Your little attraction from day one turned into full crush almost a month ago. Which is funny because you and Ace have never spoken, but you canât help but feel attracted to him. To be honest, Ace doesnât speak with anyone, his voice can only be heard if the teachers ask him something or if they have something to tell him about the way his uniform is not worn right. The only thing that you are aware of so far that you have in common with him.
Walking into the room most of your classmates are already there. Scanning the room your eyes land on Ace. As always, he has his headphones on while having his hands on the desk, with one elbow raise and his head prop on the palm of his hand. Taking a deep breath in you start walking towards the desk in the middle of the middle row and sit there. With Robin being gone for the day, you are going to be sitting alone so you put your bag on the chair next to you. Taking your notebook and pen out you start fidgeting with the pen between your fingers waiting for your teacher to come.
Slightly turning your head to the side, you glance at Ace. His messy hair falling freely around his face as always and his glasses already placed on his face, he looks adorable. Yes, your crush so far is based only on his lucks, but the rare times you have heard him talk, he is smart and yes, he is also cocky, but not like the rest of the boys in your class. There is some kind of a charm in his cockiness. Just before he turns his head in your direction you look away quickly.
His lips twitch for a second as he has caught you staring at him again. Ace is used at this point with your staring. It even starts making him wonder if you have a crush on him or something. You are not very easy to read so Ace isnât sure a hundred percent if he is right about it or not. Slowly he runs his eyes down on your body and licks his lower lip. You are quite bold today, not only are you with knee-length stockings again, but on top of it they are dark red mesh material, so he is able to take a very good look at your legs. Are you aware of what these things are doing to still teenage boys⌠to him?
Just when his imagination is about to start working on the things he wants to do in between your thighs while you wear these red stockings, he hears the most annoying voice to exist, even over his headphones being on max volume.
âMorning Ace, itâs always so nice to spend biology with you.â Isukaâs voice rings in his ear as annoying as his first alarm in the morning. Ace doesnât even bother to look at her. Since the first day at school, she has been sitting with him every biology class. He has tried many things: putting his bag on the chair where she is supposed to sit hoping she gets the hint that she isnât welcome sitting with him, then sitting at another desk just so leaves him alone but still no success. One time he made sure to be the first one in class just so he could hide the fucking chair but sadly someone got sick that day, so she sat with him again. Thankfully it is only biology he has to sit with her. The teacher finally walks in, and the class is starting so Ace takes off his headphones and puts them back in his backpack.
âStudents.â Mr. Bellman clapped with his hands as a warm smile is placed on his face as aways. He is one of the few, to not say only teacher in this school that is actually nice and understanding towards his students. âBefore the Christmas break next month you all will be divided into pairs and do a project together.â
âAre we paired with whoever we want or you are going to pair us?â Ask a classmate of yours.
âThank you for the question, Mr. Dawson. In fact, I have written all your names on a piece of paper and put them in a bowl.â He pulls out two glass bowls filled with small pieces of paper. âThose of you sitting on the left will be the one picking a note with the names of your partner and on those of you sitting on the right will be picking from the bowl with the topic of your projects.â After he explains you groan and quickly move to sit on the left side. You donât care what topic you will get if you will be lucky enough to get Robinâs name out of the bowl. âEveryone understands? Okay, perfect. I will come to you now first with the names.â
Your turn finally comes, and Robinâs name hasnât been picked yet so hopefully you will get her. With a warm smile Mr. Bellman encourages you to pick a piece of paper, and you do. You start laughing as you unwrap it and see your own name written on it.
âWell, Mr. Bellman I guess Iâm either doing it by myself or I can choose with whom to work with.â You joke with him to which he laughs but shakes his head.
âI know you are hoping to pick Miss Nico as your partner Miss (Y/L/N), but with risk for you to hate me, please take another note.â You click with your tongue when your teacher tells you this. Mr. Bellman has gotten to know you very well over the span of the four years he has been your teacher, and he knows that you and Robin always go as a pair. Putting your hand once again in the bowl you drag another piece of paper. Unwrapping the small piece of paper your heart skips a beat once you read the name. âMr. Portgas D Ace, how nice.â The teacher announces loudly as he looks at Aceâs direction.
Hearing his name being called Ace raises his head from his notebook. He looks at where Mr. Bellman is standing, and he is right next to you. âNiceâ Ace thinks to himself. You arenât a bad option for a project partner especially when it comes to biology, you are pretty good from what Ace has seen of you so far in class. He only nods with his head as the teacher wrote you down as partners.
You on the other hand donât know how to process the fact that you will be working with Ace for the next one month. You know he is smart and surprisingly he is one of the top students in class, but even if he isnât the smartest it wouldnât have mattered as this isnât why you are concerned. It is the fact that you have a stupid little crush on him and spending time with him outside school might cause your stupid little crush to grow. Your thoughts are interrupted by Mr. Bellmanâs voice.
âOkay, everyone has a partner, right? Now is time to pick your topics, now remember those on the right are picking them.â
Going around the room again Mr. Bellman skips you this time as it is Ace turn to pick your topic as he is sitting on the right side of the desk. Reaching with his hand Ace picks a piece of paper and unwraps it. Clearing his throat before he speaks, he looks at you.
âCauses of Narcolepsy and Insomnia.â He says with his deep raspy voice. In response you nod as you have turned to face him when he was picking it. Turning back around you write it down on your notebook, so you donât forget. Before you have turned around you see the nasty look Isuka is giving you, but you pay her no attention. You are aware of her own crush for Ace, but it is obvious that it isnât mutual.
After everyone get their topics, Mr. Bellman starts to explain how the project can be made and as long as it is submitted by the second week of December it should be fine for everyone. The class finishes on time and everyone starts to gather their stuffs. It takes you a moment to start putting your stuffs back as now you must speak to Ace no matter what. But by the time you turn around to see if he is still in the classroom he is nowhere to be found. With a sigh you get up and start making your way to your locker to grab your physics textbook and then make your way to the classroom. You wonât be seeing Ace until after lunch when you have your literature class and then PE, which means you have enough time to think of how to approach him. Or he might approach you, after all it is not only your project.
****
Lunch break comes and you made your way fast to your locker again. Deciding to skip on lunch today you grab your literature books and head straight to the classroom. You are the first one there as everyone is out for lunch now. Taking your usual seat in the middle row you pull out your phone and start texting Robin.
âRob.... I have a good and bad news...â
âIf it is about the biology project I already know as Nora has already texted me about it... so I suppose this is the bad news... now tell me the goodâ She is quick with her reply. Not only this but you just realise that you have totally forgotten to pay attention to who got Robinâs name. Poor Robin, she must work with one of Isukaâs annoying friends for the project.
âGirl Iâm so sorry... yeah about the good news... guess who is my project partner :3â
âNo way :O ... is it Portgas?â Of course, Robin gets it right from the first guess. You happily squeak and tap with your feet excitedly on the floor.
âYES ROB IT IS HIM IN FACT CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?â
âIf I knew that the only day of me missing school would lead to this I would have gotten sick earlier xD have you two spoken about it?â
âNot yet, but I have the next two classes with him as you know... so I plan to speak with him about it.â You have already come with a plan, and it is super simple â he walks into the room, sits on his desk and you go speak with him, how hard it would be?
Well, it appears to be harder than you have expectedas he is late for class, but he comes eventually. After being scold from Mrs. Kenets he goes and sit on his usual spot â the last desk next to the window. After the class is done you miss your chance again as he is the first one to leave. But it is okay, you still have PE together you can speak with him then.
You arenât very surprised when you canât catch him to speak with during PE, too. It is the only class where he kind of interacts with people and it is the guys who he interacts with only when they play basketball. He plays very well, you have observed him many times, but you are not surprised after all he is tall, and he obviously works out, so this only adds to his looks. You even have a theory that he might be practicing basketball outside school, but you are not a hundred percent sure about this. You on the other hand try to join the girls and some of the guys who are playing volleyball, but it gets boring quickly.
Now you are just sitting on the benches, with your elbows on your knees and your head prop the palms of your hands, observing Ace and waiting for the perfect moment to speak with him about your project.
âStaring to much arenât we?â Taking a deep breath in, you side-glanced the person who just sits next to you.
âWhat do you want Isuka?â You turn your head to the side to look at her with blank stare.
âI want to change partners for the project.â She crosses her arms across her chest and her tone from mocking turns to demanding. A makeshift puff of laugher escapes your lips as you look at her in disbelief.
âYou heard Mr. Bellman we canât do this, and I wonât do this for you especially.â It is not because Ace is your project partner, it actually doesnât matter who it would have been, you will never do a favour for Isuka. Ever.
âYou can have your friend Robin, and I get Ace what a better deal than this?â She continues to nag.
âYou are not even the one paired with her, the fuck is you on about? And I told you Iâm not changing partners for your pleasure especially.â You turn your head back to where the boys are playing basketball.
âLook at me when I speak to you.â Isuka hisses and pulls you by the hand causing you to look at her.
âTouch me one more time and I will sweep the floor with your hair.â You snap at her as you stand up. Verbally she can say whatever you never really care, but this right now is crossing any lines.
âCalm down loser you donât want to get in trouble.â She also gets up and now you are on the same level facing each other. âAce also wants to change so we can be together.â
âDo you even believe yourself when you said this out loud?â You snort and turn around to walk away. You can hear Isuka walking after you, but you chose to ignore her.
Passing by the guys playing basketball you donât see Isuka going to one of them â Jack, the popular rich and extremely arrogant jerk in school. She whispers something in his ear and his arrogant laugher fills up the space. The guys have stopped the game as he is the one holding the ball and waiting for him to get back to it. Ace is standing with arms crossed across his chest while carefully observing the scene just a few steps away from them.
He saw you passing by a little annoyed by Isuka, who was following after you. Her bullying, if he can call it this, towards you havenât been unnoticed by him, but it is always her put back on her place by you. Maybe this is the case again. But it isnât. Just as Jack is raising his hand ready to aim at you, with his arrogant smile on while his face is turned to Isukaâs, it takes Ace three stapes to get to Jack and take the ball away from his hands.
âThe fuck man?â Jack turns to him with disbelief in his eyes. âI was just about to have some fun.â He came closer to Ace bumping his chest with his, to which Ace snorts as he puts the ball between them keeping Jackâs body away from his. They are almost the same high, but Ace is still slightly taller than him.
âSince when hitting girls is considered fun Jack?â Ace raises one brow at him waiting for his response.
âDidnât know you can talk this much Portgas?â Jack mockingly says to which Ace only replies with an arrogant smirk. After all Jack isnât the only one who thinks he can act all cocky and mighty.
âI usually donât waste my time speaking with people like you.â This struck a nerve in Jack as he hears Ace says this and goes to pinch him, but Ace is quick to dodge it. The teacher is quick to see what is going on and runs to the boys screaming at them. Taking a step back Ace laughs at Jackâs face. âTry faster next time, Jack.â With that he ignores the teacher who is trying to scold the boys but none of them is listening to them. Before heading to the changing rooms Ace gives Isuka a disgraceful look. It is clear to Ace that she has talked Jack into doing this, which is very low even for her.
You on the other hand have missed the entire show. Now as you have changed back to your school uniform and adjusting the straps holding your red stockings you curse yourself as you accidently made a hole on the side of the left stocking. Remembering that you have a clear nail polish in your locker you grab your bag and leave the changing rooms.
Standing in front of your locker and opening it you also put back some of the notebooks and textbooks you are carrying with yourself during the day. Most of the students are already leaving as the last bell of the day has rung like five minutes ago. As you are about to close your locker you havenât paid attention to your surrounding, someone has leaned on by the lockers next to you, so when you hear their voice, you get startled.
âShit, sorry. Didnât mean to scare you. (Y/N), right?â Turning around you are met with no other but Ace. With your eyes widen you swallow hard as you nod. âSo, we are project partners now.â He says and you nod again.
âUh, yeah. Actually, I was trying to get a hold of you the whole day.â You chuckle and try to straiten your posture. You open and close your mouth as you arenât sure exactly what to say and Ace isnât very helpful as he doesnât say much himself. âLike... you know... I was wondering things like when should we start, where should we meet... you know ha-ha... project things.â You grab on your left elbow with your right hand as you try very hard to hide the fact how nervous you are around him.
Putting his hands in his pockets Ace can see how nervous you got out of nowhere. He swears this isnât the same confident girl he has observed around school. But then again, he has seen you only with your black-haired friend which he always forgets the name of. Maybe you are only confident and bubbly only around people you know and that is why you only hang up with her.
âWhich day after school works with you? The sooner we start the better.â Ace says and you nod agreeing with him.
âAny day works with me honestly.â You give him a small smile and wait for his response as he seems to think about when it will be best for him.
âHow about Friday?â
âSure, Friday works fine with me as well. Should we go to the library?â
âYea, the library is fine. Then see you on Friday.â With this he pushes himself of the lockers and walks away. He isnât arrogant, but he isnât very friendly as well, so you are starting to worry how smoothly this project will go. But now that you have seen him up so close, you are totally sweep off your feet. This boy is unbelievably handsome.
âPlease, donât have a girlfriend.â You think to yourself, a thought that has crossed your mind million of times now. You have tried everything, but you canât find him on any social media and as he doesnât speak to anyone in school you have no idea if Ace is single or not. All you can do is prey that he is single, because boy your heart will be broken if he is taken and extremely jealous of his girlfriend.
*****
Friday comes fast and before you know it you are done with your classes for the day. You will be lying if you say that you are not nervous and excited at the same time now that you are about to spend the next few hours working with Ace on the project. On the other hand, Robin hasnât stopped messing with you today as you have put extra effort in the way you look today. With your makeup and hair done nicely and your uniform being precisely ironed like never before, paired with dark blue knee stockings matching your uniform you looked gorgeous today. Even Robin herself commented how you will make him crush on you a hundred percent after your study session.
âOkay, how do I look? How do I smell?â You have dragged your best friend in the bathroom with you as you want to make sure that you are a hundred percent looking your best.
âOh my God, (Y/N). Calm down, he is just a guy.â Robin is still in disbelief in the way you are acting when it comes to Ace. Sure, he is cute, even if he isnât her type she doesnât deny that the guy is good looking, but you have never been like this over a guy before.
âI know, I know.â You say in a desperate tone. Yes, you are super attracted to him and his looks but expect from this you donât know anything about him, and you are hoping that with this project you will be able to get to know him. âI... I just want to... how to say it Rob... if he finds me somehow attractive then, of course only if he is single, maybe he might be up for a date or something.â Lowering your head and looking at your sneakers you feel Robin wrapping her arms around you and pulling you into a hug.
â(Y/N), if this guy is not on his knees for you after today, then he needs to change his glasses.â You both laugh as you pull away from the hug. âOkay now show me which lip glosses you have taken with you?â You eagerly pull out the two lip glosses you have taken with you in the morning as you canât decide which one will look better. Taking a good look at them, Robin points with her finger to the cherry coloured one. âI think this will make your lips pop more.â
âThank you. I was also thinking of the cherry one.â You put the other one back in your bag and start applying the cherry one on your lips. Smacking your lips once you are done you turn to Robin. âWhat do you think?â
âI think that Iâm jealous of Portgas.â Hearing her comment you burst of laughing.
âUh, I love you, Robin. You are the best friend I could have ever ask for.â You pull her for another hug, but she taps you on the shoulders to let go.
âCome on, he is probably waiting for you. And donât forget to call me once you are done.â
****
Ace has been sitting on one of the old desks in the library for the past fifteen minutes now. He should have asked for your number. What if you canât make it today? He has seen you around school earlier today, but still. Or what if you are here but canât find him? He is definitely getting your number today. Not for any other reason, just so he can have some kind of contact with you while you do the project together.
âHey, sorry for being late.â His eyes immediately shot at you as you stand on the side of the desk next to him. You smile at him as you pull the chair to sit. âDonât tell me you have been waiting for me for a long time?â Your eyes are filled with guild and Ace is just staring.
âShit, she looks even prettier today.â He canât help but think to himself. Ace canât deny that he has found you attractive since day one, but he hasnât been in a relationship ever. Which is strange that the thoughts of relationship are crossing his mind since he doesnât want one. He does have his fair share with girls from time to time but nothing more. Not only this but whatever you have put on your lips today are making them even more plump and desirable. If he can just pull you closer and kiss you right now he would. Calling him out by his name you take him out of his trance.
âSorry? What were you saying?â He clears his throat as his voice comes out a little bit raspier then usual.
âI asked if you waited for me for too long?â You let a small giggle at his confused expression. To your surprise Ace let out a little chuckle himself. This is the first time ever you hear any form of laugher from him and you swear something bloomed in your stomach.
âNah, I didnât. Actually, you need to give me your number, so we have some kind of communication through out the project.â Your eagerly nod as you see him pulling his phone and handing it to you so you can put your number in. You quickly type it with your name as well and give back the phone to him. âNice, thanks.â He says and puts the phone back in his back pocket.
âHow do we start now? I see you have taken some books already.â You reach and take one of the books and observe it. It is about neurobiology, which your topic for âCauses of Narcolepsy and Insomniaâ is based on.
âYea, well we can do bigger research on insomnia as I have a narcolepsy myself so you can leave all that part to me.â He runs his hand on the nape of his neck a little uncomfortable.
âOh, no please. I want the work to be equal for both of us.â You are quick to protest and surprise to hear that he has narcolepsy himself, he hasnât showed any signs in school, but again from sharing just three classes together you donât know much about him. âAlso, I didnât know you have narcolepsy. I know it is not easy living with one as my little cousin also has it.â You smile at him as you understand a bit how he must feel dealing with this on the daily basis.
Raising his brows in surprise as he hasnât met anyone so far in his life who has it or have a person close to them struggling with it, Ace is a little taken aback and not sure how to response to this.
âYa, it does sucks sometimes.â Is all he manages to response with. âIn that case should we get to work?â With a nod from you, you both start to discuss how you can manage your project and the topics for it.
Time goes by fast and before you know it, it has already been two hours. During those two hours it is mostly you who breaks the silence with suggesting ideas or double checking with him if you should include a certain information in. Deciding to take a quick break from gathering information and writing it down, you decide to be bold and ask him more personal questions in the meantime, if you can call them this, so you can get to know him a little.
âSo, um Ace...â You start unsure if he wants to talk or not, but when he hums and looks at you in response so you take this as a yes â he might be up for a small talk after all. âWhat made you choose this school?â
Unsure how to response to this question without mentioning that he has been expelled from his previous high school he gives you the most logical answer ever.
âMy mom, you?â Short and clear as ever, but at least he asks you as well.
âMy parents.â You roll your eyes, if it isnât for them you would want to attend another not so strict and pretensions school.
âWhy the eyeroll?â He takes his glasses of and puts them on the side. The switch in his charm with and without them is indescribable â with them on he gives this persona of a little introvert and unbothered guy, who is also extremely adorable; without them he gives and has the vide of the cocky cool guy with a bad boy vibe who with just one look will get you on your knees. Shaking you head of you try to focus yourself back into the small conversation.
âI donât know if you have noticed but this school is quite pretentious.â You whisper like there are many people around you, moving your eyes side to side pointing out your surroundings. A puff of makeshift laugher escapes Aceâs lips as he nods his head.
âYea, same. Canât stand this place and its rules.â He leans on the back of the chair and loosen up the tie around his neck.
âTell me about it, I already had three detentions.â You huff. Rasing one of his brows questionably to why and how you have gotten detention, three times on top of it. Even he hasnât gotten one, yet. âBecause of the stockings.â You scrunch your face with a smile and Ace chuckles at you.
âWhy donât you just wear the same ones as the other girls?â No matter how cool Ace wants to play it, this question has been on his mind for a long time. It is only you in the whole school who allows herself to wear something that is considered inappropriate.
âI really hate stockings, I donât even like these ones, but God I would rather get detention than getting to the principalâs office ever again.â Your whole body shivers from the memories of it.
âWhat they send you to the principal just because of some socks?â Ace snort, he canât believe how ridicules this schoolâs rules are.
âNo, I was sent to him because I came to school without any â just me and my bare legs, and in my defence, it was the end of May and outside was almost thirty degrees.â Â
âOh, fuck this school.â Ace laughs in disbelief as he runs both of his hands through his hair messing it even more.
âThere is more to the story.â You say and he looks at you like you are kidding. âDonât look at me like this, Iâm not joking. They called my parents and bear with me now â they had to listen to the principle going on and on about how unappropriated their daughter behaviour is because of this, and how she is promoting sexual behaviour in the schoolâs property dressed like that.â
âWhat a troublemaker you are (Y/N).â Ace clicks with his tongue as he laughs once he hears your story.
âThe biggest one, donât forget.â You point with your finger at him correcting his mistake as he raises his hands in the air like you have pointed a gun at him.
âHow did your parents react?â
âThey are super cool. I wasnât grounded or anything like it, but they begged me only to never come to school again with bare legs.â Both of you share a light laughter before silence takes over you. âShould we continue?â You are the one to break it once again.
âNah, I think we did enough for today. What are your plans next Wednesday after school, we can meet again?â Your eyes widen from excitement as you eagerly, too eagerly for your liking nod your head. âCool, then until next Wednesday.â He says as he gets up and takes his stuff. âTroublemaker.â He chuckles at you over his shoulders and leaves.
****
Wednesday turns to next Friday, and next Friday turns to see you again on Monday and for the next three weeks you and Ace are meeting at least two times per week to work on your project even thought you do twenty percent working and the rest is you two talking and getting to know each other. To your surprise Ace is quite talkative when he wants to be. The more time you two spend together the more you get to know him, and the more is your crush on him growing.
One time you gain the courage and very subtilty you asked if he has a girlfriend to which he answered no, and you felt like all the powers, gods and goddesses, whatever is out there was with you that day. Not only that he is handsome with amazing personality, but he is also single. The two things you must be careful about now are: one trying to not get in the friendzone and two if he likes you â you donât want it to be just sex, you want it to be more than this.
During school, every time you bump at each other in the hallways you are always greeting him, and he always nods at you or mumbles hello back. Of course, this got you a few unpleasant stares from a few girls around school. One time at literature class when he was the one to stop by your desk and talk with you, you noticed Isuka choking on her water and if it was possible in real life, she was going to have steam of smoke coming out of her ears out of jealousy.
The only sad part of it all is that you two are pretty much done with your project, only a few more details are left but it wonât take you more than two hours to finish it. As you are laying on your bed with your notebooks spread across on it, your phone vibrates. You grab it and your eyes sparkle with excitement once you see who the message is from.
âTomorrow same place at the same time?â
âOf course ^.^â
Not wasting even a second later you dial Robins number. The moment she does you are quick to speak.
âShould I tell him that I like him?â You blurt out.
âIf you feel like it â yes.â
âBut what if he doesnât like me back? That way things will be awkward till the rest of the year, and I donât want it to be this way.â You bite on the cuticle of your nails as you stand up from your bed and start to walk back and forth in your room.
âI think he does.â Robin says with a reassuring voice over the phone.
âI think you are feeding my delusions.â
âGirl, calm down. From what youâve told me and Iâve seen from you interacting I think he might be into you as well, plus youâve said he that he is a pretty chill guy, so even if he doesnât, Iâm sure that it wonât be very awkward after it.â She starts to laugh as she can only imagine you going around in a circle around your room, and she isnât wrong.
âYou are right, after all the worst he can say is what? That he is not into me and⌠andâŚâ Your mind goes spiraling with thoughts of what could be the worst thing Ace might say to cut you off.
âAnd the world will keep spinning now calm down and worry tomorrow, okay?â
âYes, you are right. See you tomorrow, Rob.â
âSee you tomorrow⌠troublemaker.â She laughs and cuts the line immediately knowing how to tease you. You have mentioned to her how from time-to-time Ace calls you âtroublemakerâ. Falling on your back on your bed you just stare at the ceiling â what is the worst that can happen tomorrow?
****
Walking home after his basketball practice, Ace canât help but think of you. In the past three weeks you two have been talking a lot. He enjoys it more than he wants to admit to himself. On top of it, your beauty is like a bonus to your personality â not only you are smart and funny, but you are also mischievous and spontaneous. And he likes this about you a lot. You are the type of person who is down for anything, especially judging by the stories you have told him about yourself. You are also quite charming and cute when you have this sparkle of mischief in your eyes. Yes, you are a troublemaker, but not the type who looks for troubles on purpose, it is more like a rebellious troublemaker. You will stand behind your words and believes no matter what and not only does he finds this extremely attractive but he also respects it.
Unlocking the front door of his home and walking in he is greeted by the voice of his mom. Entering the living room, he sees her sitting on the couch drinking tea, as her long ginger hair is falling freely on her back and shoulders.
âHow was practice, honey?â She asks with a big smile on her face as she takes a sip of her tea and then place it on the coffee table.
âMa, stop calling me pet names like this.â He grunts as he takes a seat on the couch next to her with one arm prop at the back of the sofa. âAnd it went good and very, very tiring. We ran a lot today.â Ace tells her as he is stretching his legs with a hiss from the soreness.
âI can definitely smell this.â She replies sarcastically as she punches her nose and waves her hand at her face messing around with her son.
âOh, shut up mom. I showered there and I will go shower again in a minute.â Ace laughs and moves closer to her as he raises his hands in the air making his mom fake a gag from her sonâs sweat.
âYou are the same pain in the ass as your dad.â She raises her voice acting like she is irritated but in fact she is not, she is having quite the fun with her son right now. Poking him on the sides where she knows that he is ticklish, she laughs when he groans and gets up from the couch.
âWell, I donât come from the neighbor. You choose my dad not me.â He jokes with her as he reaches and takes her tea mug and chugs it down.
âDid you just drink all my tea?â Rougeâs eyes widen as she sees the smug smirk placed on her sonâs face.
âYour stinky son is thirsty, sorry ma.â Ace lets out a boyish laugh as she reaches to playfully smack his forearm but misses. Grabbing his gym back from the floor he makes his way to the bathroom but before this he stops at the door and looks at his mom. âMom, do I really stink?â
âNo, Ace you donât. Iâm just messing with you.â She looks at her son lovingly as he nods his head. Sometimes he is such a dork, especially recently. But Rouge doesnât mind it. In the past almost two weeks and so her son is somehow more talkative, more open. Something he hasnât been in a long time, and something is telling Rouge that there is a girl involved in this, and she canât wait to tease her son about it, but not now. For now, she is just enjoying having a little bit of her sonâs old self back. But once she has the opportunity, she will definitely tease him about it, especially after he has mentioned briefly that he is doing a project for biology class with a girl and Ace never talks about girls of any kind with his mom.
After taking a shower and going to his room Ace grabs his phone as he sits on his bed and texts you. Tomorrow you are finishing your project and as much as he wants to be done with it, he is not that excited to be done with your little meetings after school. But you might continue to spend time with each other from time to time, after all you have a few shared classes together.
His thoughts are interrupted by his phone vibrating with a message from you as a little smile twitch on his lips. Laying on his bare back on the bed he looks up at the ceiling with thoughts filled with you. Maybe he does have a little crush on you, but this is not what he needs right now. After all you are a troublemaker, and it seems like troubles love to follow him.
****
Walking into school Ace feels a little weird today as a lot of people are staring weirdly at him. Usually, he doesnât pay attention to people staring at him, but it is something in their eyes that it is like a judgment. He makes his way into the school sport hall as his first class for the day is PE. Leaving his gym bag in one of the lockers in the changing room as he came to school with his gym clothes, Ace made his way to the sport field. Entering the closed space field, he notices everyone staring and whispering in his direction. âWhat the fuck?â he thinks to himself.
âPortgas.â He hears his name being called by no one but Jack himself. âDo you carry a blunt or two with yourself or we should call the police in case you lie.â Jack screams across the field and everyone laughs.
You and Robin have just entered the sport hall from the back entrance and are still dressed in your uniforms as you have some time before the class starts to change to your gym clothes. What confuses you both is seeing everyone laughing.
âHey, Vanessa.â You call one of the girls with whom you speak from time to time in class. âWhy is everyone laughing.â
âOh my God, girls you must see this.â She says and pulls her phone up playing a video. The video is of a guy who is being held by the police as he is curing loudly and fighting them as they try to cuff him. âJack sent this to the entire class, and well half of the school as well.â
â(Y/N) is this Ace?â Robin looks at you with frown brows. You are about to call her out but then you see the face of the guy, it is Ace. What is going on? Looking up from the phone screen you see Ace and the rest of the class laughing at him. Without giving it a second thought you run to him. You hear Robin calling after you, but you pay her no mind.
âAce.â You call out once you are close enough to him. He just side glance you and doesnât say anything. âI⌠um⌠there is this video going around⌠you getting cuffed by the police⌠are⌠are you okay Ace?â
âDo you know who spread it?â He asks you in a calm voice. Too calm for your liking.
âVanessa told me that Jack sent it to half the school.â You quietly reply.
âThank you, (Y/N).â He says without looking at you and starts to make his way towards Jack with his fists clenched. Realizing what he is planning to do you are quick to stand in front of him and stop him by placing your hands on his chest.
âAce donât.â You give him a pleading look.
âYes, Ace donât. Listen to your little girlfriend.â Jack calls out loudly again but this time with mocking voice of a little girl. Laughter fills again the whole sport hall. Clenching his jaw tight Ace pushes off your hands and starts to make his way towards Jack again but you are not going to let this happen.
âAce, please listen to me for just a second.â You stand in front of him again.
âFuck off, (Y/N). This is between me and this motherfucker.â He snaps at you as he moves to the side but so do you as you arenât letting him take another step.
âI know, but this is what he wants and Ace this wonât end with detention.â You know better than him how this schoolâs rules work. Especially when it comes to students like Jack with rich parents. Ace is going to be out the second he lays his hands on him. âAs much as I want to see Jackâs face being punched, I donât want you to get kicked out for a such thing.â After saying this Ace finally looks at you. his eyes and his whole face full of rage.
âDamn you (Y/N) and this whole school.â He spats at you before turning back and storming off the sport hall.
âWonât you run after you boyfriend (Y/N)?â Jack says again with a mocking voice. Turning in his direction you just smile at him and start walking towards him. âYou know if your attitude wasnât so unpleasant you would make a very good girlfriend with a face like yours.â He smirks as you stand in front of him. Smiling at him and before he has the time to react, you spit in his face and walk away to find Ace. âYou little bitch. Wait until I catch you.â Jack screams full of rage after you as his buddies gather around him trying to hold him still as he wants to run after you.
â(Y/N) you animal.â Isuka screams after you but you just raise your hand and show her the middle finger. Before you leave the sport hall Robin catches up with you.
âGirl, this will cause you some trouble you know?â She walks along you as you are looking everywhere trying to find Ace.
âI will worry about this later. I need to find Ace.â
âOh my, you are a lost case. Do you really like him this much? Is he really worth the trouble?â She stops you by holding you by the shoulder and you look at her seriously.
âYes, Robin. I do like him this much, and he is worth the trouble. Now please let me go so I can look for him.â Inhaling and exhaling deep she lets go of your arm.
âI can help you at least.â She pleads but you shake your head.
âThank you, but I think itâs better it I do it alone.â Before you run away you look at her. âBy the way will you cover for me for the rest of the day?â
âYou donât even need to ask me this.â Shaking her head with a smile she sends you off to look for Ace.
You look everywhere â the school hallways in both wings in all three floors, the cafeteria, the main floor by the entrance and now you are making your way to the library. For the almost four weeks you have spent together and the three months since school started you are a hundred percent sure that whatever the reason behind why he has been arrested isnât something that will change your opinion about him. You know a little bit more about Ace now and one thing he is not is being a bad person. From what you have seen in the video it had happened in a school property and the best they can arrest you for is if you have been with drugs to school. Ace doesnât seem like the guy who does hard drugs so you are a hundred percent sure that it might have been for weed. But even if it is for something more serious you donât care much because you trust your intuition, which tells you that he has a valid reason and explanation to the story behind the video.
As you run towards the library you spot him walking out of the school. The moment you take a step to turn in his direction you feel a drop of rain on your face. âGrate now all we need is rain.â You think to yourself as you fasten your pace to catch up with him.
âAce, please wait.â You call after him to which he looks over his shoulder with still anger written all over his face.
âGo back to school (Y/N).â His voice is still harsh but not as much as when he has told you to fuck off in the sport hall.
âI canât go back to school. Please, itâs about to be pouring rain. I-I can drive you home or whenever you are goi-â Ace turns to you with an angry expression â his brows drew together with his jaw clenched. He opens his mouth to say something and in this exact moment rain stars to fall from the sky like crazy. Both of you get soaked in a matter of seconds â him with his long sleeve compress black t-shirt and basketball shorts and you in your now soaked school uniform.
âGo back to school (Y/N) and just continue with your day.â He rolls his eyes and turns around as he starts to walk away from you.
âAce, I canât go back to school and continue with my day because... I... well I did something...â This makes Ace stop his track and looks at you. As if he couldnât look even more hotter than before now with all his clothes soaked from the rain and his black hair wet from it you could faint from the sight of him on the spot.
âWhat did you do (Y/N)?â His voice got even deeper. Ace is standing and watching you looking at your feet and arms behind your back just like a little kid who has done a mischief and now is guilty about it. Not only this but your white shirt is now stuck to your body from the rain Ace can clearly see the bright red bra under it, which is matching with the stockings you are wearing today, making it very hard for him to focus on just your face alone. Lifting your head and giving him big doe eyes look, with your mascara smudged a bit from the rain, anger isnât the only thing he is feeling right now.
âI-I spat Jack in the face.â You look away now ashamed of what you have done even if he deserved it. Â
âYou what?â Ace takes a step towards you. He canât believe you have done this and the trouble you will get into for it. âWhy did you do this?â His mind is running wild. Why would you do such thing? You wonât be getting away with just a detention after school.
âBecause he tried to make fun of you.â Wrapping your arms around yourself you tired to shield from the cold rain and his pierced gaze.
âI can stand form myself (Y/N), I donât need some girl to do it for me. Thank you, now everyone thinks Iâm a coward and a pussy on top of it.â Running his hands over his wet locks Ace shuts his eyes and tries to take some deep breaths.
âA-Ace I-I didnât mean to cause you harm. I-I just... I-I wasnât thinking... I-â
âJust shut up.â Opening his eyes and seeing how your own eyes are filled with guilt and shame he curses himself. âIâm mad right now, okay? I donât want to be an ass toward you, but damn it, why you are such a troublemaker all the damn time.â This isnât a question, this is a statement. Why are you going headfirst aways? Why did you even go to such extreme just because some asshole tied to get on his nerves. Seeing how you are shivering from the cold Ace exhales deeply and grabs you by the arm firmly but also gentle at the same time. âWhere is your car?â He asks you as you start walking towards the parking lot.
âThere is the little red one.â You point with your finger towards the small Toyota Aygo parked in the middle of the parking.
âWhat is with your obsession with the red colour?â Ace huffs as you reach your car and waits for you to unlock it.
âI didnât choose the car nor the colour of it. And red is not my favourite colour.â You say with a little pout as you unlock the car and both of you get in. Ace has to adjust the seat as he is a bit too tall for your car.
âYea, bet.â He scoffs with a roll of his eyes.
âWhere should I drive to?â
âMy place.â Ace replies dryly. Brushing your wet hair from your face you nod and start the car.
****
The car ride is silent. The only time you and Ace exchange any type of words is when you ask him for direction. These twenty minutes to his place felt like an eternity to you. âGood job (Y/N), now you messed up any chance to have something with him.â You are thinking to yourself. There is no chance that things will recover easily now that you have put both you and Ace in this situation. Parking the car in front of the building where he lives you donât dare to look at him.
Unbuttoning his seatbelt Ace looks at you with one brow raised. Why are you not turning off the car?
âArenât you coming?â Hearing the question from him you finally dare to look at him.
âUh... I... do you want me to come? I-I donât want to bother your mom or something.â This and you also havenât expected to receive such an invitation from him.
âYea, come if you want. My mother is not home anyway.â He is still a bit pissed at you, but he also sees you trembling as you both are still soaking wet from the rain. Last thing Ace wants is for you to get sick because of him.
Hesitating for a moment you slowly nod your head and turn off the car. Unbuttoning your seatbelt, you and Ace both go out of it. The rain is still pouring but none of you hurries up to get inside. You are quietly following him as you enter the building and get in the elevator. Ace press the third floor on it and in the meantime, you look at yourself in the mirror. You notice that you look like a mess â with your hair and cloths all wet and your makeup ruined you feel like a clown right now. On top of it you notice that your bra is seen from under your shirt, and you can feel the embarrassment taking over your features again.
The ding of the elevator indicates that you reached his floor, and you wait for him to go out first so you can follow. Searching for his keys in the side pocket of his gym bag Ace pulls them up and unlocks the door. Opening the door, he nods at you to get in first. Taking a step in and taking off your boots you take a quick look around the place. It looks very neat and cozy, the walls are a very nice light cream nude colour.
âWe can go to my room.â Ace says as he starts walking toward it and you go after him. While passing the living room you notice that there are a lot of paintings on the walls of flowers. Looking at you over his shoulder Ace notices you observing them. âItâs my momâs hobby. Painting flowers is her new obsession.â He explains while holding the door to his room open waiting for you to get in.
âShe pains very nice, they are beautiful.â You say as you look from under your lashes at him as you pass to enter his room. The room is quite messy, but you are not surprised or judgy as yours is not better condition than his. Some of the walls have basketball players on them and the walls are paint in a nice spruce blue colour. Next to his window is a big desk with his computer on it and by the looks of it he is also a gamer boy.
âYou game a lot?â You ask trying to break the uncomfortable silence that has taken over again and also to calm yourself down because the realisation that you are in his room, in his apartment soaking wet just hits you.
âYea, you can say this.â His reply is dry but unbeknown to you Ace is feeling just as awkward as you are right now. What was he thinking inviting you over? Especially with you looking like this right now, which causes his mind to run wild with the things he wants to do to you.
âIs that LeBron?â You point at one of the posters hanged on the walls to which he scrunches his nose and shakes his head.
âItâs Koby, um... itâs written with big letters on it.â He points back at the poster, and you awkwardly chuckle at your obvious mistake.
âSorry, guess I need to check my eyes.â You let out a giggle as you try to lighten up the mood. Ace doesnât share the giggle with you and at this point you are running out of ideas to how to make the situation less awkward. Chills run all over you and you wrap your arms around you to which Ace clears his throat.
âI can give you some clothes to change to, um... give me a sec and sit on the bed or something you donât need to stand up.â
âItâs okay I donât want to wet your bed or something.â You try to brush his offer off, but he just points with his eyes towards the bed so you just nod. Going to his wardrobe he starts to look for something that can fit you as well, but all his cloths will be too big on you. Finding some old basketball shorts and a baggy t-shirt he grabs them, âthey should fit herâ he thinks to himself. Turning around and seeing you sitting crossed leg on his bed so innocently looking at him at the same time with guilt written all over your face, gets his pulse raising. Taking a few steps and standing in front of you, with a little bit of a distance, he hands you the clothes. You mouth a thank you and reach with your hand to take them.
âWhy did you stop me from punching his face but not yourself from spiting on it? You realise that now you are the one in trouble not me?â Giving you the clothes he sits right next to you on the bed. This time his voice is calm, there is no trace of anger in it. Ace wants to genuinely know why you put yourself in this situation.
Trying to collect yourself you donât know how to response to this question without making things between you two worse. How do you tell him that you like him so much that the fact that a guy like Jack trying to make some kind of fun of him makes your blood boil. How do you tell Ace in a first place that you like him?
âI-I told you Ace... I just... just donât like people like Jack making fun of others.â You uncross your legs and put the clothes to the side as you start playing with your fingers nervously.
âI get this part without you needing to repeat yourself. But you came and told me to drop it only for you to go and do the same thing is not very smart.â Ace turns his head to face you, but you refuse to look at him. â(Y/N) look at me.â His words are demanding but his voice is not, instead it is softer and somehow pleading. Still, you refuse to look at him as you are afraid if you do so you wonât be able to resist the urge to just scream at his face that you have feelings for him. Ace curses under his breath and places two of his finger under your chin making you look at him. âI didnât and I donât care what any person in this fucking school will or already is thinking of me or the video they saw. In a few months none of these people will matter. And I have been wanting to punch Jackâs face in a long time and if it wasnât for you, I was going to do it. But why did you have to get involved?â Ace is trying his best to get an answer from you but all he gets is widen from fear eyes and you biting on your lip to a point where he thinks blood will come out soon. With a sigh he drops the hand that holds your chin on the bed next to your thigh, his shoulders slumping a bit as he doesnât know what do to or say to make you to tell him the truth behind your actions. âIâm not mad at you, Iâm more concerned about what will happen to you now. I donât want you to get expelled from school because of me.â
âThey wonât expel me, I will get in trouble, but they wonât expel me for it, so donât worry.â Your voice is quiet as you try to reassure Ace that he shouldnât be worried about you. But the fact that he is concern about you is filling your belly with butterflies.
âThis doesnât answer my question (Y/N).â He says propping his elbows on his knees and resting his head in the palms of his hands.
âI-I canât Ace.â You whisper.
âYou canât tell me? Why?â He straitens his posture again and looks at you in disbelief. âWhy are you shy out of nowhere? Where is the confident rebellious girl that I know, now? You left her at school or something?â He is right. This isnât like you. But you just canât bring yourself to tell him, afraid of his rejection. You could feel your heart beating faster with every passing second.
âI- Ace... I- I... I did it because... because...â The words are on the tip of your tongue but saying them aloud is harder than you expected. Especially now with your eyes locked, the more you look into his deep dark eyes the more you are afraid of them rejecting you. âBecause... Ace...â
âJust say it for fuckâs sake.â He snaps and at the same time you shut your eyes closed and blurt it out.
âBecause I like you.â Silence filles the room. With your chest raising and falling fast you donât dare to look at Ace, while he is trying to process what he just heard. Did he heard you right, you like him? Like you have a crush on him?
âWh-what do you mean you like me?â His eyes widen from the shock and voice filled with confusion if you dare to open your eyes you will see his cheeks covered in blush as he still canât believe what he has just heard. Not being able to take any more embarrassment for today you jump on your feet ready to run but Ace catches you just on time as you are about to open the door. Turning you around to face him and grabbing both of your wrists in his hands he pins you against the door with his body. âYou canât tell me you like me only to run away a second later.â He grunts as his face leans closer to yours. âHow long?â
âAce please...â You whisper pleadingly. Your legs are getting weak and your mind is getting foggy from having him towering over you. Not to mention the heat that forms in between your legs from the way you can feel his body on you.
âNo. Answer. Now.â His voice goes lower and deeper sending chills on your body. âHow long?â He repeats his question as he squeezes on your wrists but not in a painful way but in a very gentle yet demanding one. Looking away from his eyes he clicks with his tongue. âNo, look me in the eyes.â Cursing under your nose you do as he tells you too. âGood girl. Now answer.â
âSince we start school.â You mumble quietly almost making it impossible for him to hear you.
âLouder (Y/N).â He presses his body on you entirely with one leg in between yours causing you to bite on your lip so hard just so you can supress the moan that almost has slipped your lips.
âSince we started school, okay? I had a crush on you since day one and... and then I started to like you... thatâs... thatâs why I-I...â You canât finish your sentence as Ace crashes his lips with yours. It takes you a second to realise what has happened but the moment you do you return the kiss immediately. His kiss and his lips are better than you have imagined them - soft and full, you are a hundred percent sure you have never kissed a guy with such nice lips before. And the way he kisses you with passion and desire you are about to melt in his hands. Releasing your wrist and wrapping his arms around your waist you are fast to wrap yours around his neck.
âJump.â Ace whispers against your lips and he doesnât need to tell you twice. With one little bounce he catches you in his steady arms and lifts you. Wrapping your legs around his torso he continues to kiss you as this time his tongue licks your lower lips asking you to open your mouth. Parting your lips Ace wastes no time slipping his tongue inside your mouth. Electric currents are running over your body the moment he deepens the kiss. His tongue gliding with yours feels so warm and sweet. The taste of the kiss is a mixture of mint and the candy you and Robin shared earlier before classes.
Walking to the bed with you in his arms Ace places you gently in the middle of it as he hovers over your body without breaking the kiss. Now like this you have a better access to his body, you run one of your hands through his messy soft dark locks and the other over his hard defined with muscles back. Breaking the kiss to take the needed air both of you have forgotten that you need, Ace looks at you with half lidded eyes as he licks his lips which now are puffier from the kissing.
âYou want this as well, right?â He sounds a little out of breath as his face comes closer to your ready to kiss your sweet puffy lips again, but also to make sure that you both are on the same page with where this is going. You canât find your voice so all you can do is nod your head and pull him for another kiss. This time you donât supress the moan that wants to escape your lips when you feel his hand grabbing and squeezing your thighs as he slides them under your skirt.
Feeling the soft skin of your thighs and hearing your sweet alluring moan, Ace feels his dick twitching in his shorts. Removing his hands from under your skirt he finds the zipper of it and unzips it. Pulling away from the kiss and you, he gives you a few slaps on the side of your right thigh to lift your hips so he can take off your skirt. Doing as you are being told he takes it off fast and sighs with pleasure at the view in front of him as he parts your legs.
âYou sure red is not your favourite colour?â He smirks as he teases you over your red lace panties which now are drenched from your wetness. âCome on, I have only kissed you, not even properly touch you yet and you are this desperate for me?â Ace licks his lips not moving his eyes away from your covered pussy.
âYou are not the one to talk.â You are quick to tease him back as his hardened bulge is being quite visibly defined in his basketball shorts.
âIâm not even fully hard yet.â He smirks from satisfaction seeing your pupils dilate. Hovering over you once again Ace kisses you again but only for his lips to travel to your jawline down to your neck. Him kissing and nipping your neck, while his hands are running up and down your thighs, feels like you are levitating. Finding your sweet spot on your neck, Ace gives it a lick and then sucks on it causing you to jerk your body upwards from the pleasure and goosebumps he has just caused you, but he is fast to hold you firm under him with his hands and body. âStay put.â He whispers in your ear as he bites on the soft part of it causing you to whine under him.
Running your hands down on his biceps you realise that he has way too many clothes, and itâs time for him to get rid from some of it. Reaching with your hands down to his torso you find the ends of his compress shirt and start lifting it. Knowing what your intensions are, Ace helps you with removing the shirt as he throws it somewhere across the room. You feel your pussy throbs from the sight of him shirtless. His chest is defined and muscular and so are his abs which get your mouth running dry. You run both of your hands over it, feeling his warm and soft skin under your fingertips, you bite on your lower lip as you notice a tattoo on his left arm, which you have never seen before.
âEnjoying the view?â He chuckles as his hands reach for the buttons of your shirt and start unbuttoning them one by one. Propping yourself on your elbows, you help him take it off. Reaching to unclip your bra Ace is quick to stop you. âNo, this can stay. Red looks good on you.â His voice has gone raspier and he gently pushes you to lay back on the bed again. Pressing you once again on the matters he dips his head in the crook of your neck and slowly trails his lips down to the valley of your chest. With his hands now on both of your breasts he cups them and squeezes gently.
While he is busy kissing the skin around them and massaging them you are exploring the expanse of his back and shoulders. Reaching the waistband of his basketball shorts and determined to take them down, you get distracted as you feel Ace pushing one side of your bra lower and wrapping his lips around your harden nipple. Your hands move to his hair instantly as you push him closer to your chest. He doesnât let your other breast feel left out as his thumb and index finger are switching between soft and hard pinches making you whine in pleasure.
âAce please.â You beg him as you can feel the pool of arouser that has formed in between your legs. Rasing your hips a bit so you can get a bit of friction to his harden bulge he pins you down again with his body making it impossible for you to move. Letting go of your nipple with his lips and looking up at you he shakes his head. His dark brown eyes are now filled with lust as does his mind.
âDo you know how long you have been teasing me with these stockings you come to school and your innocent glances at me all the time?â He asks you while rolling his hips on top of you with a hiss. Your eyes widen with surprise as you heard that he has caught you staring at him all the time in school. âWhat you think I havenât notice?â Ace laughs mockingly at you. âYou think I havenât notice you getting all dolled up for our first meeting for the project or these beautiful thighs since day one?â He teases you with his low deep voice as he stars traveling down with his lips on your body.
Moving his hands and placing them at the back of your knees Ace raises them and places your legs on his shoulders leaving you entirely exposed to him. Running his fingers on your stockings up to where your thighs are exposed, he lets out a sigh full of satisfaction. Your soft and beautiful thighs which have been driving him crazy for months, now are finally in his hands and the things he has been planning to do to them are about to come true.
With one hand caressing your left thigh, he starts slowly placing a trail of kisses on the inner side of the right one. As he gets close to now your drenched lace panties, he bites softly on your softest part of your inner thigh causing you to jerk closer to him as you canât stand his teasing anymore.
âAce please... please touch me.â You are so desperate for his touch that a single tear falls from your left eye.
âSh, patience.â He is quick to hush you as he turns his attention now to your left thigh and does the exact same thing all over again but this time with his kisses are slopier. Not only the waistband around his basketball short is getting tighter but so are his boxers. It takes all his willpower to withhold himself from taking them down and fuck you aggressive on his bed, but before he does this, he must taste your pussy.
Gripping on the side of your hips a bit to harsh but not on purpose, Ace drags your lower body even closer to his face and finally he is able to inhale the sweet smell from your soaked pussy. Kissing your pussy lips over the fabric of your panties, a whisper leaves your mouth. Tracing the outline of your lips with the tip of his nose, Ace stops at your covered entrance and kisses it, causing his lips to get wet from your dripping pussy. Licking his lips and taseting how sweet your cunt is, he canât help but moan himself. Holding you still firm in his arms with legs propped on his shoulders, he reaches with his right index to move aside your panties.
âOh God you are so beautiful.â His voice comes out as a whine of pleasure as he finally uncovers you and he can see your coated from arousal pussy. You canât help but clench your cunt around nothing as his comment makes you squeeze your thighs from desire. âYe baby, make this pussy throbs again.â Ace being pussydrunk by the sight in front of him, canât move his eyes from your cunt as he is in an awe. You do as he has told you and another moan leaves his lips. The view of your wet pussy leaking with your arousal almost made him finish on the spot.
Not wasting a second more Ace buries his face in your wet folds. Taking one long lick from the entrance to your puffed clit your whole body shakes. Cleaning all the sweet juices off he is now entirely focused on your clit. Sucking and licking the bundle of nerves Ace gets you twisting and turning under him. A sudden impactful slap causes tingling sensation on your ass cheek. A mixture of pleasurable pain and surprice leaves your lips.
âStay still.â Is the only thing Ace tells you as he looks at you with a hungry look in his eyes and lips still on your pussy. âOr you wonât finish.â
Inhaling deep as he goes back to eating you out you are now entirely up to his mercy. You can no longer move or squeeze your hips afraid that he might deny you your orgasm. Sucking harshly on your clit, he extremely gently bites on it which caused you a feeling of pleasurable pain that you have never felt before, he slowly moves his tongue to your entrance. Plunging his tongue in your entrance he starts to slowly tongue fuck you which causes your eyes to roll from pleasure. Taking a better hold of you with his left arm Ace reaches with his right hand and places his thumb on your clit and start to run circles around it. With his tongue fucking you and his finger playing with your clit you feel the pleasure building in your lower stomach. Gripping the bedsheets under you in a tight grip your hips start to shake. It takes one stronger push on your clit from Aceâs finger to get you crying out his name as your orgasm hits you like the truck.
Ace rolls his eyes from pleasure the moment he feels you clenching your pussy around his tongue as your sweet cum covers his tongue. Not even bothering to stop until he licks the last drop from you Ace doesnât move an inch from your pussy.
âAce, Ace please... please Iâm too sensitive... Ace...â You try to make him stop but all the air has left your lungs and you feel dizzy under him. With one last long lick and a kiss placed on top of your clit Ace finally pulls his head away from between your thighs. Taking your legs off from his shoulders he lays them spread on the bed. Coming closer and hovering over you he brushes the hair from your face and kisses your lips. You can taste yourself on his lips as now he is slowly kissing you as his lips and chin are covered in your pussyâs juices.
âYou taste so sweet, baby. I can get addicted to the taste of you.â He whispers as he pulls from the kiss. With half lidded eyes and still recovering from the aftermath of your orgasm you cup his face in your hands and pull him for another kiss. Relaxing his body on top of yours, you can feel his dick twitching in his pants. Sliding one hand in between your bodies you trace the harden bulge with your hand and squeeze it causing Ace to hiss from pleasure. Breaking the kiss again you both looking into each othersâ eyes.
âI think your shorts needs to be taken off.â You swallow hard as you gently massage his hard member.
âYea, I think so too.â Sitting on his knees again Ace pulls down his shorts along with his boxers freeing his harden cock. Your thighs clench at the sight of it. His cock is not only big, but it is also thick and vainly. Precum is already leaking from his redden tip as he runs his hand up and down his shaft. Moving to stand from his bed he takes the shorts and the boxers off entirely and kicks them on the floor. He reaches to his nightstand and open the last drawer taking a condom from it. Ripping it open with his teeth he slides the condom on his length and hopes back on bed, nesting himself between your legs. âAre you ready? Relaxed?â He hovers over you and looks at your eyes to see if there is any sign of hesitation in them.
âI am Ace.â You breath out as you adjust your body more comfortably on the pillows behind you, wrapping your arms around his shoulders pulling him closer to you.
âYou are not a...â He awkwardly scrunches his face as even though he is sure you are not a virgin, he rather be safe then sorry.
âUh, no... I... I have done it a few times.â You chuckle a little shy and also finding it adorable that he is so mindful about your comfort as well. Nodding he spreads your legs open a little more with one hand as he runs the tip of his dick up and down from your clit to your entrance.
âRelax and enjoy then.â He says as he kisses your lips once more and positions his tip on your entrance. You bite on his lower lip as with a little push he entrances you slowly. The feeling of burn is taking over your core because of his size and seeing this, Ace gives you some time to adjust to it. Clenching around him he hisses from pleasure which instinctively makes him trust in you. A moan of pleasure escapes your parted lips, and this gives Ace the sign to go.
Rocking his hips slowly but steady in and out of you, Ace has propped himself on his elbows on both of your sides and is looking down on where your bodies are connected. Trying to muffle your whines and moans by kissing along his neck and shoulders, your hands are exploring his chest and back as you canât get enough of the feeling of his soft skin on yours.
Increasing his tempo as he feels you relaxing more under him Ace grabs your legs again and place them on his shoulders, raising your lower back in the air as he grabs a pillow and places it under it. Now standing steady on his knees, he has put you both in a better position where you can feel him better and deeper in your gummy walls, hitting the sweet spot causing you pleasure all over your body. Now focused on your breasts bouncing with every hard thrust he reaches with his hands and pinches your hard nipples causing you to arch your back from pleasure. Clenching and unclenching your pussy from pleasure around him, your moans mixed with his grunts fill up the room.
âShit, if you continue to squeeze this tight I... shit...â He lets out a moan as you squeeze on more time your pussy around his dick. Grunting, Ace puts down your left leg and turns your body to the side as he keeps your right leg up. In this position, hitting your walls sideways you canât help but roll your eyes from pleasure. You can feel the burning sensation in your lower stomach forming once again indicating you that you are close.
Seeing you arching your back and rolling your eyes, with fists clenching around the bedsheets a cocky smile spreads across his face. Ace feels like he has never seen something sexier than you right now - your puffy swollen lips parted and your boobs bouncing up and down with every trust his dick makes deep into you.
âAce, Iâm goin...â A muffle cry leaves your lips, making it unable for you to finish your sentence as your whole-body jerks and shakes around Ace as you milk down his dick. The squeezing of your pussy as you climax on him, makes it feel tighter for him and Ace can feel that he is about to cum soon. With the feeling of your warm gummy walls hugging tight his dick he trusts now harder in you than before. The sounds of your skin slapping and the hot air of sex that has taken over the room makes him roll his own eyes and with one last thrust he shoots his head back and a loud groan leaves his lips as he cums with his dick buried deep in you.
With both of you trying to catch your breaths, Ace pulls out after a minute from you but before he gets from the bed he places a gentle kiss on your forehead. Grabbing his boxers before he leaves the room, he tells you that he will be back in a moment to which you only nod as you are still recovering from your high. Coming back after a minute in the room with his boxers on, he carries a wet towel with him.
âYou donât need to do all this I can do it myself.â You protest but Ace shushes you as he sits on the bed next to you and gently cleans the mess between your legs.
âI clean after myself, plus you said you donât want to wet my bed, right?â He chuckles as he messes up with you. Hiding your face with the palms of your hands you laugh at his comment.
After he made sure that you are good and alright, Ace helps you to put some cloths on and both of you get under the covers of his bed. He is leaned on the headboard as one of his hands is placed over your shoulders with your head on his chest. Runing circles on his chest with your fingers you move your head a bit to take a better look at him.
âUm, Ace?â You quietly call for his attention and he focus it on you. âCan I ask why were you arrested?â You arenât sure if this is the best moment to ask this, but it is worth the shot. Ace hums and takes a deep breath before he answers.
âI was getting in school fights a lot and one day I broke a guyâs arm from my class. But this is not why they cuffed me, it was because I was high and had weed with me.â He explains short and clear. âI got kicked out and with a lot of connections and thanks to my grades, my mom managed to get me into the shit of school we go now.â Saying this he looks down on you and chuckles sarcastically. âYou still like me now?â
âThe question is do you like me?â You are still scared of the answer as having sex with you donât equal mutual feelings.
âAbout this...â Ace takes a deep breath in and canât help but laughs as he sees your face going blank from fear. âHow do you feel about a date this Friday?â He gives you a charming smile and you are finally able to breath again.
âAs long as I donât get grounded after today, it is a yes.â You smile at him as you would love to go on a date with him.
âThen this should give you your answer.â He kisses the top of your head as you snuggle closer to him.
****
You two have fallen asleep when Ace suddenly jerks awake as he hears something falling in the kitchen. Looking around his room is dark which means you two have taken quite the long nap. Moving you aside a bit as he gets up to check what made the noise. Putting a t-shirt and a pair of shorts to cover his body, Ace leaves the room fast as he doesnât want to wake you up.
Getting in the kitchen he is met with his mom stern but also warm gaze.
âCare to explain why you left school early today?â Rogue asks her son as she is preparing dinner. Ace blushes as he realises now that his mother is home there is no way possible that he can sneaks you out nor that she hasnât notice the pair of girly boots by the entrance of her home.
âUh, yes ma. But you know... I kinda have someone over.â He awkwardly scratches the nape of his neck. Rogue canât help but laugh as she sees Ace whole face getting flushed.
âMm, I kind of already figured this out.â She half shrugs with her brings her focus again on the cutting board. âIs she your girlfriend?â Taking a glance at her son again she giggles as he is struggling with finding the right words to describe the situation.
âSoon to be... maybe... yea something like this.â Ace murmurs avoiding looking at his mother.
âWell, then she should definitely stay for dinner, donât you think?â Rouge puts the knife down and smiles at Ace. This is new. She has never met any girl Ace has liked or let alone catching him with one at their home, so she is more than excited to finally meet a girl who her son is interested in.
âI will ask her if she wants to.â Ace says as he turns to walk back to his room.
âIs she the girl you are paired with for biology?â Rouge calls after Ace before he leaves the room to which he response with his thumbs up without looking back at her. A big knowing smile placed on her face. She knew it. She knew that his recent behaviour is caused because of a girl. And she canât wait to meet her and thanks her for bringing her sonâs sparkle back.
END NOTE: This is the first smut ever that I write so please I need a feedback if it was good or not. I really hope that you have enjoyed this one shot as I really tried to build the characters and their characteristics + behavior in the best way possible giving the fact that this won't be a series. Also I hope that you have enjoy the little interactions between Ace and his mother Rouge as I feel like he would be such a mama's boy but not in the awful unhealthy obsessed way, but in the very healthy mother-son relationship. Anyway I won't be yapping more - if you liked this short story feel free to like, comment, reblog or inbox me ⥠And as aways thank you for reading my works âĄ

Eldest Sibling! MC
Headcannons
Requested By: @ainmunaqadh
Summary: The brothers' reactions to an MC who is the oldest sibling but is also the shortest sibling, and they have some self-esteem issues because of it. The Seven Brothers x Reader Word Count: 1,524
Lucifer is on your side one hundred percent of the time. He knew how frustrating it could be at times when you were the eldest sibling.
You felt responsible for your younger siblings and that responsibility made it all the more aggravating when your siblings didnât listen to you.
Likewise, it was easier for you to understand some of the decisions that Lucifer made, even when none of his brothers could understand his reasons.
And he was grateful to have someone like you in the House of Lamentation. It was a presence that he was sorely missing from his life.
There have been times when he caught you giving lectures to his brothers when theyâve done something particularly rambunctious and heâs never been so proud.
In his head, heâs encouraging you to give them the scolding of a lifetime. But, he wonât step in. Heâll just admire you in action.
And if your self-esteem issues ever come up, heâll do everything in his power to try and dispel them.
You were an excellent eldest sibling and you were great at being in charge; and, he would make sure the whole world knew it.
Mammon would relate to you the most out of everyone. He understood what it was like to be an older sibling but not get any respect from your little siblings.
You were the shortest out of all your siblings and because of that, sometimes they didnât treat you like you were the eldest and that gave you a lack of self-confidence sometimes.
Mammon was always battling with his younger siblings. He did his best to come off as confident and self-assured as Lucifer was, but he was constantly made fun of by his little brothers and that led to him having self-esteem issues.
Heâll know how to comfort you when youâre feeling down on yourself more than anyone else because heâs speaking from experience.
And, if you ever get snippy with his younger brothers, youâll ignite a new sense of confidence in Mammon.
Heâll think of the two of you as a team, and unlike Lucifer, heâll verbally encourage you with your scolding.
Heâll wear a prideful smirk the entire time and endure the glares from his younger brothers while you finish your lecture.
And when youâre done, heâll give them a pointed look, silently telling them not to mess with either one of you again. But, really, itâs just you the demon brothers donât want to mess with. They could care less about Mammon being there for the lecture.
Levi struggled with being an older sibling sometimes. He knew that as the third-born, he was supposed to be looked at as one of the leaders when it came to his family.
But, he struggled with the pressure of making decisions and having strict rules which is why he typically kept to his room and did his own things.
So, itâs a bit of a comfort for him to see that you, an older sibling, also struggled sometimes with your siblings. It made him feel like less of a disappointment.
You had seen how determined and intimidating Levi could be in his games sometimes and you believed that if he could bring that out of himself in real life, he could be as intimidating as Lucifer to his younger brothers.
Levi didnât care too much about real-life situations though. What he cared about was the way your assertive nature came out when the two of you were playing games.
With the way you could take charge in games, he thought you must be the best older sibling in the world.
Levi would be another one who would be good at helping you with your self-esteem issues and you were just as good at helping him with his.
He even took charge of his brothers a couple of times, surprising himself with his words. He was stunned when his little brothers actually listened to him and he was certain it was because of your encouragement.Â
Satanâs reasons for not liking Lucifer werenât because he was the eldest sibling. It was because everyone compared him to Lucifer.
So, the fact that youâre the eldest sibling doesnât bother Satan one bit.
In fact, he enjoys the way youâll put yourself in charge and handle the situations that come up during your time in the Devildom.
It takes a special person to be able to adapt to a life full of demons and you took the challenge head-on and exceeded everyoneâs expectations.
Satan couldnât help but wonder if your siblings helped prepare you for your adventures down there. Maybe your siblings acted like demons - so to speak.
Whatever it was, Satan was grateful for it. He adored watching you when you were being assertive and had a small smirk whenever one of his siblings was taken aback by it.
Here they were, Avatars of Sin and some of the most powerful demons in the Devildom and they were being intimidated by you.
Everything about your personality impressed Satan, and if anyone dared to not show you the proper respect, he would step in.
That included if your siblings decided to tease you about being the shortest one.
To put it simply, Asmo liked it when someone could be dominant.
And since you were the eldest sibling, you tended to have your moments of dominance.
They would make Asmo swoon every time.
It was the way you presented yourself that made Asmo fawn over you.
You could act so sweet and innocent at times and then whenever someone crossed a line, you would be giving them a lecture that competed with Luciferâs.
It was exciting for Asmo to see both sides of you so he didnât mind your âeldest siblingâ personality one bit.
In fact, in true Asmo fashion, sometimes if he caught one of his brothers doing something wrong, he would call on you just so he could see you give them a good scolding.
The first time he found out that you had some confidence issues due to your height, he was shocked. How could you of all people have self-esteem issues when you were so perfect to him?
But, if there was anyone who could help with confidence, it was Asmo.
He would shower you with compliments until you believed him.
And if your siblings ever made fun of your height in front of him, rest assured heâll find a way to ensure they never do it again.
Beel might be the second-to-youngest out of his siblings, but he had a very mature personality and sometimes acted more like an older sibling than some of his brothers.
And because of how mature he was, it was easy for you to get along with him.
Beel never got into any trouble or tried to stir up issues. The worst he ever did was eat all of the food - but that was to be expected of the Avatar of Gluttony.
But, whenever you needed help lecturing one of his brothers, he was the perfect helping hand.
There had been multiple times Lucifer called on Beel to help him punish one of his siblings and Beel never questioned it as long as there was proper food compensation.
And the same went for you. If one of the brothers did something that made you mad or was deserving of a lecture, he would hunt them down for you and make sure they stayed still as you taught them a lesson.
And he didnât even do it for the food. He just did it for you because he cared about you. And because maybe he enjoyed it when you were in charge.
He would make sure to never be on the receiving end of your lecture. And, when he found out about your low self-esteem, he would do everything he could to help you come to love your height the way he did.
Belphie is the least pleased about your âeldest siblingâ personality. But thatâs mostly just because he has a hard time getting along with Lucifer.
It wasnât that he necessarily thought that Lucifer was a bad person - it was just his nagging was something that irritated Belphie beyond belief.
It got to the point where Belphie would actually dread seeing his brother sometimes, knowing that a lecture usually came with him.
So, naturally, he expected you to be the same way. Always on his case about something.Â
And it was easy for you to see Luciferâs side of things when it came to Belphie. Sometimes, the eldest sibling has to make tough decisions for their own good.
But, you never flaunted it the way Lucifer did, which was a huge thing for Belphie.
And although you could have your times when you scolded the brothers, you always knew how to lighten up and have some fun with them.
That was something that seemed impossible for Lucifer to do.
So, although heâs a bit wary of you at first, he can see that you arenât just Lucifer 2.0 and because of that, he grows closer to you all the same.

1/ Which category of alterhumanity do you belong to?
Hm. Just the umbrella term I prefer but perhaps otherkin in the sense of being some strange conceptkin and Divinekin who calls themselves angelkin over being this sensation of life and fate and existence as a whole.. Iâm like- life. Just life. Life-kin, can I just say Iâm me? Iâm everything. Aaaaughehejjd also wolf therian. Beat me over that but also sometimes caninekin and like .. feeling like dogs depending on whatever mood Iâm in and copinglink of a borzoi đŻ
2/ What/who is/are your type(s)? sort of answered it in the above but I love lists. From highest relation to least (I vary quite often, and mostly am okay with being human except for a few rare instances and exceptions): Life and existence as a whole, wolf, a mutt/random canine, and.. some muskrat đż I love them but how the hell am I litterally a muskrat- OH AND I HAVE HUMAN PAST LIVES but Iâm still confused over them. Like, some random guy with a car who loves the nighttime and was treated like shit, uhh.. about 80s/90s and in his 20s- maybe USA or UK, also USSR but not sure if itâs the same guy. Also a butler or someone of the sorts in another, just having a bunch of various strange jobs (or maybe itâs who I want to be.. idk I always struggle with knowing whatâs my subconscious or whatâs my soul)
3/ Do you experience shifts? If so, can you tell us your most common shifts and your strangest cameo shift (if you've ever had a cameo shift)?
Hm. Mostly mental shifts or something and the vague feeling of being a wolf but have had tail, ear, paw, and full body shifts. Also wings but theyâre like random and in no way related to any identity.
4/ How do you experience your alterhumanity in everyday life?
Hm. I forget. Aha forgot- auh just being more understanding to those also like me and more connected to nature on an animalistic level and validating myself in my unusual-ness? Also sometimes craving the simple regressive state of being incoherent but understood, of being one with sensations and instincts but perceived by humans.. hehejdkjdhdhd
5/ What do you think of the community?
very nice! Also very sweet! Understanding of plenty, especially tumblr, but others may be more misinformed and rude elsewhere.. anyways just very sweet, good movement if I can call it that, itâs gained popularity definefely and for the better.
6/ What are the things that make you most comfortable and euphoric in your alterhumanity?
watching documentaries on canines, documentaries on ussr (donât ask), forests and nature as an absolute whole (especially woodlands), and dog training videos. Fascinates me. Also being seen as a wolf. I used to go around telling people to call me Wolfy as a kid.
7/ Are you experiencing species dysphoria?
nope! Not really, and I find that great :)
8/ What advice would you like to say to a young alterhuman who has just awakened?
trust your instinct and this vague feeling of feeling ârightâ rather than any set of rules or expectations.
9/ Do you have/want to have gears?
eueuhsgghhwcomplex question. Next! Aha kidding but like.. I want metal claws, and pretty metal gloves over my hand. Whatever that is. Hm perhaps also a wolf mask? Mm.. I donât really like gear though, too âout thereâ for me. I got a tail and paws and ears tho, but REALLY want wingsâ also kinda fucked up I donât glow. Would drink glow sticks to glow- aha kidding.. unless-
10/ Do you know/have any theories about the origin of your alterhumanity? If so, tell us! (all beliefs are legitimate)
mine specifically? .. evolved from thinking wolves are mad cool then seemingly wanting to be a werewolf then really thinking I could become one (with my varying degrees of wolfness and humanness) then finding splice with being seen as a canine or with one, and turned quickly to âyeah Iâm a person but being a dog or wolf would be so damn coolâ and searching immensely on caves near me with the idea I would go exploring and find a genie and wish to be a shapeshifter and then live in the forest and convince others I was human then in the privacy of my own presence embrace my instincts and dreams of being a canine and now itâs just. Confusion mixed in with âwas I faking it??â feeling and some sense of âbut i like being humanâ even with that same nagging feeling of sometimes just needing to be a dog for a bit to feel content in my skin and maybe itâs something leftover with my soulâs past life that Iâve gotten over or now transformed from being a childhood dream to merely related to the emotional state of freedom and being understood even with my strange behaviours and appearance that likely had been formed through having a nagging sense of not being understood enough even with being genuinely spoilt but trying to convince myself that nobody cared so I could excuse myself if I ever turned to drugs but then just finding ways to love and understand myself and finally realising that I am loved but sometimes my thoughts just arenât understood because others have different views and then vowing to do my best to understand others and especially folklore creatures even after I- oh, have I went off script a tiny bit? Im wolf enough.
11/ Tag someone/a creature to answer these questions!ă
¤áľĚ
oh Iâm an addict for answering this, thank you so much for tagging me! But.. I donât know who to tag.. anyone who sees this! Perhaps @canines-crown ??
If you are a alterhuman, reblog and answer these questions!

Sex, Money, Feelings, Die - Chapter 1
Summary: Having lost everything, you joined the games with no hope or expectation of winning. Despite it all, you found something interesting in #001. Maybe you'd stick around a little longer. Chapter wc: 1.1k
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ugh. Shut the fuck up. The bed springs above me continued to creak, bearing the weight of the middle-aged man that lay on it. It doesnât bode well to be a light sleeper in a room that you once shared with over 400 people. Little whispers, light snores and soft noises fill up the empty space of the huge room that youâve been placed in, little rest is present amongst those remaining after the harrowing experience of witnessing deathâs embrace, through a fucking childrenâs game of all things⌠You stare at the metal frame that lines and supports the bed above you, the only view thatâs offered to you in this hellscape. Being placed in a very awkward third bunk placement has stifled your daydreaming tendencies, preferring the company and comfort of the make-believe instead of your present reality. You envied those close to the floor, being able to root their feet and center their bodies to the ground with much more ease. You also envied those closest to the ceiling, closer to the covered stars and having the room to breathe. You chose to focus your thoughts towards your discontent with the sleeping arrangements, since the alternative is a reality you donât want to face quite yet. Hoping that itâs been enough time since the lights went off, you slowly feel your pockets for your most treasured item: your older model MP3 player and wired headphones. Feeling itâs weight in your hand, you let out a small sigh of relief. You still donât understand why they let you keep this when they confiscated literally everything else of yours, but you have noticed that they let players keep little items or trinkets like rapper extraordinaire Thanos with his entirely non-covert drug filled necklace, or that little old lady with that very gaudy hair pin that looks like itâs from the 60âs. You made a mental note to stay away from Thanos, those pretty little pills would do your attempt at recovery more harm than good. Unravelling the knot of your headphones, you go through the motions of placing each earbud in and turn on your device to play at the lowest speed possible, not wanting to draw any attention to yourself or your precious music player. Letting the music fill your ears, you wonder if itâs worth trying to figure out literally anything about this place or if itâs simply easier to embrace your inevitable fate, itâs something youâve been asking for at least for the last ten years. Having lost both your parents in a truck accident when you were just 18 devastated you in more ways than you could have ever expected. Not only did you lose your parents who have worked diligently to raise you and your older sister, but you also lost your physical home due to repossession from the bank after failing to pay back the necessary debts just days before their accident. Your parents had taken out a loan to be able to pay for the business that your father started, which suffered severely when the pandemic did its rounds. With no other family to turn to as all your grandparents had passed, your family had booked a motel for a week to organise themselves and try and figure out a living situation first, before looking at debt repayment strategies. The only available location within the affordable budget was in a very sketchy area, where crime was as natural as breathing. It was to no oneâs surprise that your parents ended up losing their lives, the mode of death however was a surprise⌠so simple for a place where violence surrounds you.Â
Their passing allowed you no time to grieve. You reached out to your older sister for support however every call, message and plea went unanswered. You werenât surprised, she fell off the face of the earth a few years prior to the car accident, claiming she âmade itâ with her rich new boyfriend. Youâd never met him, and you never knew what became of her. You had no time to grieve for the loss of your sibling bond either.Â
The few days after the funeral, you had reached out to your old friend to ask for a place to live while you sorted yourself out. She had generously allowed you to stay on her couch as long as you needed, it was then that you truly felt the gravity of your situation. You got busy trying to find a job, only succeeding with night shifts at the convenience store. Depression manifested suddenly and severely in the following months, drowning you in waves ever since then. To put it lightly, there were more moments than you cared to admit where you convinced yourself that it might be easier if you just gave up. Itâs in those moments that you can never truly place what brings you back from the edge. Was it the hope of reuniting with your sister? Was it the delusion of a misogynistic concept of being saved by a rich, loving prince charming? Was it the innate human nature of being desperate to live? As you mulled over this, you saw a shadow move towards your right, drawing you away from your melancholic thoughts. Trailing your eyes across the room, you spotted #001 keeping to the walls and heading towards the door. Huh.Â
You knew it wasnât your business, but you couldnât help but let your eyes follow him.Â
You hadnât given him much thought since the vote, writing him off to be comprised of human greed like the rest of those who voted to stay (yourself included), but there was something magnetic about how he moved. He was likeâŚa cat. No. More majestic. A panther. It was subtle but he moved with purpose, with such intention. Around him was an aura that just screamed superiority, but not in a condescending way. You had no clue what his past was but youâd bet your last dollar he had been in a position of power at one stage of his life. Normal people donât walk that way.Â
Even now, you couldnât even say heâs creeping or hiding his movements as he walks to the door. He continues to walk with grace and purpose, itâs almost as though heâs bending the shadows to his will, and that they will listen to his command. He reached his destination and began a conversation with the pink guard stationed there. You quickly lost interest as you couldnât hear anything, heâs probably just another older man needing to piss in the middle of the night.Â
How curious though. Maybe youâd watch him tomorrow too.Â

hello thank you for asking i am very flattered. i would be most honoured to give some advice that i am most certainly unqualified to give!!
ok advice 1: hey why does everyone keep telling me to read and write a lot
i think this is the most commonly given advice. i have always found it true but incomplete, because on the face of it this kind of focuses a little too much on volume. which by itself just isn't going to do that much for you, or it will, but it'll do it very slowly and ineffectively, because the second part of this advice i don't see nearly as much (and the part that makes it work for me) is that after you read or write something you need to do The Why Interrogation. what are you looking for?
when you like something, why do you like it? not just in terms of copying and learning an author's stylistic quirks or techniques, but in a more abstract way:
is it the narrative? that the premise is novel, that the progression of the story is unexpected and thrilling, that the stakes are high?
is it the characters? what is it about them? do they have compelling backgrounds? does the author spend a lot of time in their heads? is the pov internal in a way that lets you experience the story from their shoes? does their biased narration tell you more about them? or is it a detached narration that lets you see the characters in a way they don't see themselves, so the gap is intriguing?
is it the telling? maybe the prose is beautiful - what makes it so? sentence structure? unconventional use of grammar and punctuation? elegant, sophisticated vocabulary? or maybe the dialogue is sharp and human so conversation flows naturally. is the story paced carefully? does the author linger more in certain moments?
the same exercise is useful for what ISN'T working.
if your attention is drifting, what's making it drift?
purple prose? clumsy prose?
does the narration drag?
do the characters feel stagnant, and why?
plot doesn't make any sense?
maybe this sounds obvious, but imo it's a crucial piece of the advice that i just don't see as much because people tend to focus on volume of works consumed/created. the reflection and analysis is what makes that volume useful, otherwise you're just churning through content. the question should always be why, why, why. why did that work, why didn't it work, why did i like this, why does it suck. then proceed to: if i were doing this, how could i make it work?
advice 2: don't forget that all the words you need already exist.
this is more subjective advice. this is something that works for me personally. so ymmv. have you ever tried magnet poetry? you should try magnet poetry.
i always see writing as kind of a puzzle. if i have an idea in my head, the idea exists. the job is actually a translation exercise: how do i express the thing in my head as a thing other people can see? in this way it's like visual art, but it's also not like visual art at all. in visual art you choose where all the lines and colours go, completely freely. any line you draw is a brand new line.
in language, all your parts already exist. all the words already exist. (you can make new ones if you want but that's a whole different thing.) you are plucking symbols out of a collective understanding. it is like lego. all you are doing is selecting the most effective pieces and placing them in order. so for me, i am simply trying to find the 'right' words to fit each context as best as possible. it becomes a game of arrangement, which determines your expression.
then syntax and punctuation become your rhythm, which is how you determine flow. sentence length, word length, whether you omit words or use more, whether you want to be a bit unconventional. character also plays into this - i am not writing an advice 3 because i am getting self conscious but advice 3 would have been consistency of voice.
so i would prioritise vocabulary and timing. what are you trying to say (which words do you pick) and how do you want the reader to experience your words, how do you want the words to feel and sound (how will you pace your sentences)? remembering that all the parts are already there. it is the world's biggest game of magnet poetry.
advice 3 which doesn't exist: keep your voice consistent.
this advice doesn't exist. im not writing this i got embarrassed and stopped at 2. but if i did write this it would say, remember who you are. (remember who is writing your story. are you a character or are you god? remember how much you know. remember which feelings you have access to.)

-WHAT ITS LIKE DATING JINX
- Pairing (Jinx x reader)
Despite her chaotic and explosive nature, Jinx is deeply broken inside. Sheâs been through a lot of trauma, and she craves validation and love, but often doesnât know how to ask for it. Youâd need to be patient and understanding, offering her comfort when she feels overwhelmed or unworthy. Small acts of kindness and support mean the world to her, but she might struggle with showing gratitude or admitting how much she needs you.
Jinxâs loyalty runs deep, and if she truly cares about you, sheâll go to great lengths to protect youâeven if it means causing trouble. Sheâs also quite possessive; she might not always know how to express it in healthy ways, but she will get jealous if she feels like youâre giving attention to others. She needs reassurance that youâre hers, and she might not always trust easily because of her past.
When Jinx is feeling good, she's full of energy and mischief. Your relationship would be full of playful banter, pranks, and spontaneous adventures. She loves to make you laugh, and youâd find yourself constantly caught up in her quirky sense of humor and wild ideas. But these moments can also turn unexpectedly dark, depending on her emotional state.
Jinx is unpredictableâone moment she might be laughing with you, the next she's spiraling into anxiety or anger. Dating her means never quite knowing what to expect, but you can bet there will never be a dull moment. Her mood swings can be extreme, but they come from a place of deep insecurity and emotional turmoil. If she trusts you, though, sheâll let her guard down
A date with Jinx isnât your typical dinner-and-a-movie situation. Sheâs spontaneous and loves doing wild, dangerous, or creative things. From explosive experiments to mischievous escapades around Piltover or Zaun, sheâll likely drag you into something impulsive and exciting. Thereâs a good chance youâll end up getting into troubleâbut sheâll probably find a way to make it thrilling and fun in the end.
Jinx may seem like she thrives on chaos, but beneath all the noise, she deeply craves meaningful connection. Sheâll remember the small things you say or do, and those moments will stick with her. She might even express her feelings in strange ways, like creating a bomb or a prank as a way of showing affection. As long as youâre patient with her emotional complexity, sheâll cherish you in ways you may not expect.

hey queen! i recently just dyed my hair (like very very recently. like the purple dye is sitting in my hair as i type this) but i got to thinking about reader helping barty dye his hair! i think it would be so cute and wholesome bc like imagine:
barty and reader are in a prefect bathroom (props to regulus bc thereâs no way he wouldnât be a prefect) and reader whoâs so concentrated on making sure thereâs no missing strands of hair while barty is basically making cartoon heart eyes at them and just sighs every once and a while while reader is also yapping about their day. basically a wholesome bonding experience
(also this is my fav sticker reaction to use and i imagine this to be barty during this whole scenario)
hi my love !!! love this purple moment for you, my wife always switches between dying her hair purple, brown and red every few months so i know the process very well lmao<3 i hope it turned out how you wanted mwah
the thing with my barty is that he is very much self-destructive and chaotic, so i've always pictured him doing any form of alterations to his appearance alone by himself with little to no regard for safety. we're talking dying his hair with streaks of acid green in the sink of a small bathroom without gloves, getting some in his fresh piercings that he stupidly did right before he started the dyeing process with safety pins and cheap jewlery despite being able to afford the real deal.
that is until he meets his partner â someone who loves and cares for him with such gentleness and encourages him to do the same without losing who he is. he rebels because his father tried to make him something he wasn't, but you show him that being himself does not have to equate harming himself or being reckless.
so when he gets the urge to dye his hair or get a piercing or be spontaneous, you do it with him. you help him with everything, showing him that company does not lessen the fun in the activity â it might even be better. if you're the kind of person who wants to do the same impulsive acts with him, whether that be stick and poke tattoos or cutting up your clothes, he will of course return the favour happily.
you make sure you get to borrow the prefect bathroom so that there is adequate space to move around without bumping into something or making a mess. you make sure you're both wearing gloves and even put vaseline along his hairline to make sure the dye doesn't stain or irritate his skin. you make sure he doesn't get any water in his eyes when you wash it off. you make sure to discard of the trash safely once you're done.
all the while, he is sat there staring up at you with awe, the realisation that he truly is loved and safe and known striking him deeper with each second that passes, each act of service you manage to squeeze into this one favour. how you caress his cheeks gently, how you make sure not to pull his hair, how you double check with him whether he wants the messy look of patchy dye to add edge or if he wants each strand to be polished and perfect.
and even then, you don't make it into a big deal â it doesn't feel like a special occasion in that way that always quickens his pulse nor does it feel like he owes you something huge for this. it's just you and him, you're telling him about each random thought that plops into your head, recounting previous hair dye experiences or just what your day has been like before this. it feels so natural and so right and barty fucking melts for you.
barty learning soft love while still keeping a sense of who he is. absolutely adore it.
also YES, that sticker is very much lovesick!barty

I finally watched Sonic 3!!!!! (IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE)
I had been holding back so I could talk without worrying about spoilers, but I think I can now comment on my general opinion of the movie.
There will be spoilers, so you have been warned!
Iâll admit that I found the first act a bit rushed. I understand that they had a lot of characters to âreintroduceâ and new ones to add (especially Shadow), but I felt a bit lost with what was happeningâit was really convenient how the script handled a lot of things just to get to the point.
For example: Shadow attacking in Japan with no real explanation, Rockwell quickly finding Sonic and the others. Even Commander Walters showed up just to explain what happened in the past, only to die unexpectedly right after. Even though he's not a particularly memorable character, I felt like his death didnât carry the weight it should have, even for Team Sonic who witnessed it.
There was also the fact that a lot of what happened in the first act had already been revealed in the trailers and TV spots, which kind of deflated my excitement, knowing what was going to happen. But as I said, things were happening so fast that I couldnât process all the information right away! XD
I have to say, I absolutely love the interactions between all the characters. The relationships and how they were developed felt so unique to me. Iâve always had the headcanon that Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic acted like siblings, and in the movies, I got to witness that in a meaningful and very loving way (shoutout to Tails saving Sonic and Knuckles protecting them, my boys <3).
One of my favorite scenes is definitely the argument between Knuckles and Sonic, as it really shows their maturity. It shows how much they are changing with each movie, which is so valuable to me because it demonstrates that the characters are really learning from their experiences. In a franchise, this deepens their moral journey and enriches who they are â itâs truly wonderful.
Speaking of siblings, I canât not talk about Maria and Shadow. Right from the beginning, I could already feel the heartache hearing Live and Learn in an acoustic version. I think for fans who know how iconic this song is for the franchise, the idea that MARIA COULD HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL COMPOSER of it (at least in the SCU) hits so hard.
The narrative of Shadow talking about Maria always moved me, and the film managed to emphasize what she meant to Shadow in such a sweet way. Seeing the scene where Shadow recalls the day of the accident and then carrying the Eclipse Cannon gave me chills.
The parallels between Sonic/Shadow and Tom/Maria were something I was really looking forward to! The franchise often makes these types of comparisons between characters, not just in the games but also in the movies. As I mentioned before, I think this makes everything richer â it gives you a new perspective and helps you understand the complexity of characters by revisiting the "same memory" through a different person. I love when they do that!
ABOUT THE FIGHT SCENES, ALL OF THEM. I was breathless! I have to confess I was cursing A LOT during the third act. It was so epic, something you wouldnât even think you'd see! Super Form battles were such a great concept for the situation, seeing Sonic get so angry really fed my fan dream of seeing him want to destroy everything XDD. Shadow literally crushed him, both physically and mentally. He REALLY IS THE STAR of this movie. The whole year was his. And he delivered in every possible media!
((I screamed so much when they did the pose, Live and Learn, it was so epic.))
Jim Carreyâs performance is always amazing. Iâm still stunned at how naturally Gerald and Eggman felt together. It really seemed like a completely different actor, and thatâs insane! I think the only thing I wish weâd seen more of was scenes between Gerald and Maria in the past, but who knows, maybe theyâre planning something for a "Shadow solo spin-off."
The light shines, even when the star dies. â I was already emotionally losing it inside, there were just so many things to process.
AND THE POST-CREDITS SCENE HAUSFHSAIFHGVSNUHGUSAHGUSAH
OK OK IâM >TOTALLY< NORMAL ABOUT MY BABIES
Literally my two FAVORITES showed up. METAL WILL BE THE MAIN VILLAIN, I have so many theories and DEFINITELY it will be an adaptation of Heroes and CD. I CAN'T WAIT to see him in action, the whole Artificial vs. Natural thing is something that really resonates with me in the rivalry between him and Sonic.
AND HAUSHFUASFHUASFH AMY MY GIRL!!!
Sheâs so cool, she appeared in SUCH A UNIQUE way, the cracked moon in the background, revealing herself by taking off the hood... I canât wait to see her in 2027... I need it so much aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I definitely loved the movie a lot. I still want to rewatch it in English since I saw it dubbed in my language, but I think Iâd give it an 8.5/10 or 9/10! YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!! Iâm still shaking remembering the action scene sahufzahghaghs

i know girlhood has come under fire a bit lately on the girlhood-aesthetic website for being infantilizing to women, but i can never quite believe girlhood's automatically bad because of how LMM writes about girlhood. it's a separate thing from childhood, which is (often) a state of loneliness and oppression, and it's a separate thing from womanhood, which is (occasionally) a state of freedom but also of sharing yourself with other people (spouse, children, community). girlhood only is the period in which her characters can be, in many ways, acting for themselves.
e.g.: anne of avonlea and anne of the island are the two anne girlhood books. in them, anne holds down a job and attends college, but also gets to indulge her own personality, her own friendships, and her own desires. in aogg, she's constrained by people like mrs. lynde, mrs. barry; from anne's house of dreams onwards (and to a large extent in anne of windy poplars), anne's experiences are filtered through gilbert or her children. we lose sight of her almost altogether in rainbow valley.
in the emily series, emily climbs is the girlhood book: emily prioritizes her writing and education, and even though she's hedged about by her family and frets about her finances, she ultimately arranges her life to work for her. it's a slice of freedom in between the emotional constriction from her guardians she feels in new moon and the emotional angst about her potential husband she feels in quest.
yes, these are fictional characters and yes, they're operating under a society that asked different things of women during their teens. yet throughout, anne and emily make very "modern" decisions about their lives and represent the good of girlhood: a liminal time that is unsteady by its nature yet also offers more leeway for behavior because it is unchartered ground.
as maud herself says though emily: "I'm in no hurry to grow up. It's nicer to be just like this--betwixt-and-between. Then, if I want to be childish I can be, none daring to make me ashamed; and if I want to behave maturely I have the authority of my extra inches."

Experiences in the Alterhuman Community (and Beyond) as a Fictive
It's a weird experience being a fictional character, especially dealing with fandom, the fact that your source is fictional, and interactions with people based on that--including some of the dehumanisation that's so common toward fictionfolk. I'm gonna go into that here because I need somwhere to collect my thoughts, so this might get long. I'll be talking about my experiences as a fictive, but this could very well apply to anyone who identifies as a fictional being--fictionkin, fictionlinkers, etc.
So, I see the version of me on the screen as an AU version of me, in short. I mean, I'm me, and I don't think I even looked exactly 1:1 with my canon self--so naturally, even though events line up pretty closely, I see my source as... Almost like a fanfic of my life? Like sure, that's decidedly me, and decidedly a lot of the things that happened to me and my friends, but also not me. I'm not that guy on the screen, he's what represents me.
Even though I fully believe I got here by dying in a literal past life, my source media here is absolutely fictional to me and I just... Don't look at it in really any other way. Which I guess makes sense if you put it into my perspective--what else would it be? It really is like reading a fanfic based on your life though, or reading an article about yourself in the news. A bit of a shock, a bit of "why did they include THAT?" sprinkled in here and there, a bit awkward sometimes, and it does tend to resurface bad feelings. But overall, it's not that personal to me. I'm largely fine with it existing.
On the other hand, what is shocking is that people see me as fictional. I'm a fictional introject, from a fictional source, from the perspectives of a lot of people here. But I look at my source and I go well... Yeah, that's fiction of course, but my life is an actual thing that happened to me. Realistically I know that not everyone has spiritual beliefs and not everyone even accepts fictional identities as something "real", but man is it weird to just... Have it be spun in such a way?
I'm used to being in the media, I'm used to having cameras on me and being in the public eye. I'm used to articles and stories and posts on the internet. I'm used to fans even! But this isn't your regular, run-of-the-mill experience of people wanting to know you because you're a hero. This is people who see your life and experiences as a fun story they saw in a book or on TV, coming up to you with the idea that you're their favourite character, and not... A whole entire person. It's so damn weird.
There's still that level of disrespect that comes from people who are a little parasocial with you, but it almost hits deeper here because a lot of the time, you know they're not seeing a hero or the things you've literally done in your memories. They're seeing that guy on the screen they think is cool, and while he represents you, he's not you. And they're treating you like a celebrity because of that weird fanfic version of you on the TV or in that book.
There's usually little acknowledgement of your life or experiences as "real". When you're presenting as your fictional identity around others, you tend to get put into one of a few camps:
Cool Character from Media who I love and adore and want to talk to (and will probably get fanperson excited about it). I will probably get dispraportionally upset if Character tells me to back off a bit because I don't want my blorbo to be mad at me.
Character from Media I'm in love with and will immediately start asking invasive questions to or outright flirting with. Could get real gross real quick.
Problematic Character or Guy From Problematic Media that I instantly dislike because that's so Problematic how dare you show your face. I'm reporting you for being Character, you should change your identity if you want to exist so bad.
Character from Media who is disabled/queer/mentally ill/has any soft personality trait ever and I will now be treating you like a sweet little babyboy cinnamon roll who could not hurt a fly.
Person who identifies as Character? How interesting! I'm going to really pry and question everything from your actions in-source (to get unique perspectives from Character) and question literally everything else. Because this is Science and I'll get mad if you don't tell me everything, you need to tell me everything or you're rude.
Of course there's nuance and there's absolutely times where you'll be treated as a normal person, but the above are... So damn common. I've been here for a few months and I've already had some weird stuff happen to me simply because I'm Kirishima and people feel entitled to give me cutesy nicknames or whatever. Even without knowing me or my system at all beforehand. It's just.. So different from anything I've experienced before? Being treated like a celebrity is dehumanising enough, but being treated like a character.ai bot or just generally a form of free entertainment and not a person is so perplexing to me.
There's also that if you're from a popular source, you see stuff about yourself everywhere. Posters, plushies, advertisements, posts on social media--all of it. Some of that I'm used to already, but it's kind of weird when you're mentally aware that this is all for that twisted-mirror version of yourself and not you. And if you get a little uncomfortable at some fanart showing up out of the blue, or someone making a source related joke... You're kind of just expected to brush it off. Which yeah, I get it! It's about the source, not me, but it's still just... A weird feeling. A feeling of not being allowed to be upset because it's about the source and not literal you.
I think there needs to be a line, maybe. Not saying that fictives should be putting a stop to any media or fandom ever, just.. That maybe respect toward us for being uncomfortable with fan content due to being a fictive or fictionkin should be more normalised. It should be more okay to say "hey, I'm Character, please don't joke like that" to a friend, or "don't send me fanart of this thing, I'm Character and that's weird"--which it normally is! But there does tend to be a sort of layer of "Oh, it's because you're Character. You know that's not you, right? You shouldn't be upset, you need to source separate more."--when if most other people were to set a boundary like that, it would usually be respected. Source separation can be great, but if someone hasn't separated or doesn't want to, why is it okay to still send them material they're uncomfortable with--or at least, why do people tend to argue that the fictive should "just separate from source" instead? It... Just boils down to alterhumisia toward fictionfolk, honestly. It sucks.
There's a lot of problems with basic respect toward fictionfolk of all kinds--hell, even in the alterhuman community where it's meant to be safe. I don't know if this rant is entirely coherent or not, I don't know if there's anything noteworthy to take from it--but if you do take something from it, let it be that fictionfolk want to be treated like people. Source separated, not source separated, canon divergent or compliant, hearted, linker, 'kin or 'tive--we're people. Don't let our identities change the way you instinctually treat us. Let us be openly us, and treat us as you would anyone else.

Rafe Cameron
As I stood one step behind Rafe and our daughter, I felt like their bodyguard. He always wanted to have her in his arms. He didnât feel the need to use her stroller, so it always stayed in the trunk. He would look back every so often to make sure I was close by but most importantly, he made sure to catch every moment, expression, or action from our daughter. âDonât get her too close to the glassâ I warned. But just as I said it he squatted down with her close enough to touch the glass. He grins back at me before turning to see our daughter so fazed with the creature in front of her. I step back taking a seat on the wooden bench and just watch those two.
âCan you imagine them living amongst dinosaurs?â My head snaps to my right as a man takes the seat beside me. âOf course they developed over the years but it's incredible to think of how far back they go.â
âAnd now you have them hereâ I plainly point towards the glass. âLiving behind a glass where people pay to come and see them.â The guy laughs shaking his head.
âIf you think they deserve better, why come see them?â
âCall me a hypocrite,â I smile. âI like to think these places are made up of animals we have helped. Maybe that small turtle was saved and would never be able survive out there in the wild.â
âA nice way to see things,â He lets out a sigh. âBut still pessimistic?â
âOh yesâ I laugh. âItâs second nature to me. People can be so deceiving that it's easier to never truly put your trust on someone.â
âTalking from experience?â I turn my head to look at him. My smile turned into a bit of a frown. His mood shifted really quickly, noticing my change. âYou seem like a person who believes in second chances?â
âI believe things can be made right, but I also believe a person should know their value. Trust should be sacred. If you decide to trust someone it could either make you noble or a fool for falling for the same trick twice.â
âAnd you donât want to make that mistake twice because youâre scared of the pain?â I shake my head letting out a quick laugh. âIn my books it doesnât make you a fool to trust again, it simply means you are a human with a big heart.â
âGuess we just differ in opinions.â He smiles nodding along.
âWe should meet up to see if that is true, maybe in a couple of years it will be the same?â I look over feeling my smile die down. I take a deep breath ready to respond when someone cuts me off.
âI think not.â Our heads turn to see Rafe standing there. âOur daughter wants to visit the shop.â His eyes rolled over to mine. Dead expression on his face.
âI donât mean to cause any trouble-â
âThen walk away.â I gasp at Rafe's response. I was about to grab his hand and pull him away when he turned towards me and handed over our daughter. As I adjusted her in my arms I am faced with his back.
âI-â I see the man stretch to the side with pleading eyes to look at me but of course Rafe blocks him. He moves forward with each hand grabbing a fist full of the man's collar.
âLook dude. I am trying to have a nice day with my family and you are ruining it. You are some creepy guy who comes to places like these alone to what? Pry on women hoping they give you some attention?â
âRafe stop.â I demanded placing a hand on his shoulder.
âLook man I just saw her sitting there and she looked a bit down,â What? I looked down? People said I have a resting bitch face but I didnât know it made me look depressed, what the fuck.
âYour mistake.â Rafe continues. âNow that I am here you can move along and bother someone else, this one is mine.â He lets him go with a little shove. I stay quiet knowing and hoping it wonât escalate. The man fixes his shirt and with a last glance towards me he walks away.
âSeriously?â I say watching Rafe walk to where I was standing. âYou didnât have to do all of that.â He doesnât respond. He simply takes a hold of my hand and begins to drag me somewhere. âRafe,â I say a little louder trying to get his attention. He swiftly dragged us between the crowd until we stopped in front of the family bathroom.
âIn.â He opened the door and motioned for me to get in but I just stood there. I raised one brow thinking how crazy he was acting and childish. âCan you please get in?â I rolled my eyes and got in. I shake away the small grin knowing it wasnât the time to acknowledge his cute plea. I wait for him to close the door and lock it. âI heard you two talking.â
âRafe you know I wouldnât-â
âI wasnât talking about him.â He stays put in the doorway. I search his eyes for any clue, until it hits me. âAre you ever going to trust me?â His voice was almost a whisper. âYou donât say it but I know the reason for you breaking up with me and putting me on trial to be in our daughter's life was because of my past.â I was left speechless. My cheeks were burning and my bones were aching to just touch him. I saw how pain flashed in his eyes but I couldnât find the words. âYou would have hated who I was back then and whoâs to say I wonât go back to being that person again. My father was a bad man but I loved him.â His last word made his voice crack. âI donât want her to live through that and hate me,â His head falls down but I notice a small tear rolling down his cheek. âI donât want to live knowing you always have a foot out the door.â That's when he broke down into a cry.
âRafe,â I swallowed the pain in my throat and walked over to him. I grabbed his hand and led him to the single couch in the room. âLook at me Rafe.â I kneel in front of him. I lifted his chin a bit to search for his eyes. Once I saw his eyes focus on me I moved our daughter to his lap. âI canât tell you that it didnât play a part in my decision because it did.â His chest was breathing heavily. âBut it didnât make me stop trusting you, ever.â Both of my hands were holding his cheeks making sure he didnât look away. I move my thumbs to clear up the remainder of his tears. âBaby I fell in love with the man you became after so much pain. You did that on your own before we met and after seeing you become a father, I know you wonât ever do anything to make her and I hate you.â
âBut you donât even look at me the same.â I grinned hearing his childlike whine. I move closer between his legs.
âI donât look at you the same because you keep changing on me for the better.â I begin to smile bigger. âI fell in love with a 20 year old boy who was building a life for himself. Then again as a 24 year old man who became the father to our little girl. Now I have a chance to see what kind of person you will become as we grow older together but trust me, the only change you see in my eyes is how my love just keeps getting bigger and bigger for you.â I lift my head giving him a quick kiss. âThose blue eyes have become my favorite blues to see.â
âNot the ocean?â He says quietly.
âNo, ocean blue doesnât even come close.â He nods softly before fixing his down posture. âAre you okay?â He flickered his eyes down towards me as he nodded. But when I tried to get up with one hand he kept me from standing up. He leans forward and as I try to pull away but his free hand moves from my shoulder to the back of my head.
âYou need to be more careful when talking to strangers,â What am I, 10?. âI held back because our daughter was nearby, but donât go making friends with strangers, especially men.â I roll my eyes as I let out a chuckle. âYou two are mine to protect.â I move forward resting my forehead against his.
âShe is ours to protect,â I say challengingly. His piercing eyes donât change showing how he was not amused with my answer. âI wonât do it again.â I groaned, pulling away from him. âCan I get up now? My knees are killing meâ
âI donât know why. You have always been good on your knees.â I scoff pushing him away.
âYou're an idiot.â I hear him laugh as I pick myself up. âNow let's go because there is an otter plushie that has my name on it.â I hear the couch creek as he stands and walks over to the door. I turn around to face Rafe, one hand on the handle behind my back as he stares down at me. âI love you so much.â I whisper quietly and slowly. His eyes move to my right and then the left a couple of times. âDonât forget it.â I simply state. I turn and push the door open but his hand grips mine and pulls it close. His face right beside me ear,
âWoman if I didnât have my daughter in my arms right now I would fuck you against this very door. Donât go saying things like that when I canât do anything about it.â He takes a step back allowing me to focus back on opening the door. I tried to swallow but my mouth was left dry. Of course Rafe was enjoying it. He wrapped his free arm around my neck and led us to the shop with a grin on his face.
âFuck the storeâ I stop in my tracks. Shivers were literally circulating around my body.
âWhat?â Is he stupid?
âWe can come tomorrow to get her a stuffed animal. Let's go home. She needs to nap.â I didnât care how desperate I looked or sounded. I needed Rafe. These people should be grateful I have enough self restraint to hold myself back but it wouldnât be for long.
âWhat about the otter-?â
âFuck the otter Rafe.â I looked around a little embarrassed as I spoke a little too loudly. I walked closer making sure no one was going to hear me. âI am giving you a chance to go home and fuck me Rafe.â His eyes widened. âYou can fuck me until you put another baby in me. I need you,â I look up with pleading eyes hoping to get him on the same page.
âYes maâam.â And with Rafe, it didnât take much.

MONICA'S INCREDIBLY BIASED TOP 5 GL SHOWS OF 2024
1. the loyal pin. a period piece QL with a (believable) happy ending and a fairytale-like quality to it that was able to charm me from the very first episode. while the pace of the story can definitely be slow at times, i was personally just too absorbed in the world that this show created to mind it. the display of traditions, customs, and food from thai culture, along with the beautiful cinematography and the colorful cast of characters, all helped to achieve this fully immersive experience, giving the perfect frame for anin and pinâs romance. becky as anin was also a revelation.
2. ayaka-chan wa hiroko-senpai ni koishiteru. I ADORE THIS LITTLE SHOW WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. i admit that, as a bisexual woman myself, i found the bisexual erasure pretty maddening at first, however i am willing to forgive it in the face of how bright, lively, sweet, and at the same time deep and full of emotion this series is. itâs an age difference office romance that actually addresses the generational gap between the leads by exploring how societyâs view on queerness changed throughout the years, and it does so by being funny, delicate, and unapologetically lesbian.
3. reverse 4 you. this is where my bias comes through, because while this show is far from perfect, i have the biggest soft spot for it. in general i tend to really enjoy stories that feature any kind of time related powers, but compared to others the true strength of this series is the familial bond between wa and vi, which shines as much (if not more) than the romantic relationship between wa and four. i do feel like the story needed at least one more episode to wrap up the loose ends more neatly, as some things kinda left me baffled and pretty confused, but my love for this little family of three makes me willing to overlook everything else.
4. pluto. if my meter of judgement to make this list had only consisted in chemistry and performance, then this show would have definitely landed in the first three spots, as namtan and film are incredible in it (the bridge scene in episode 11 is one of the most memorable of the year for me), however some of the plot points donât sit quite right with me, and the execution of others was a bit lacking, so i unfortunately had to detract a few points. still, i enjoyed the show a lot: it presented a unique story in an interesting way, there was never a dull moment, and not once i skipped the intro because the OST is just amazing.
5. the secret of us. this show being so low in the list doesn't sit quite right with me, but at the same time it doesn't have the originality or the effectiveness in storytelling that other ones have. what it has, however, are ling and orm showcasing fantastic chemistry and very natural acting, which elevated a plot that im not usually particularly fond of (exes meeting again years later) and gave a lot of personality to their characters. the happy ending also feels earned, and some of the side characters are very memorable.
+ honorable mention (because once again, im a cheater)
23.5. i wanted to do a quick shout-out to this show because i feel like the fandom tends to give it a way harsher judgement than it deserves. while the second half did have a few things that bothered me, i still find this show a very accurate representation of teenage emotions, and the way it depicts young queer love healed the part of me that didn't have this kind of series growing up. all in all, it brought me a lot of comfort, and im incredibly grateful for that.
#im aware there are two popular GL shows missing here#but i haven't watched blank#and as for affair.....like with pluto if i were to base this just on chemistry it would have definitely made it into the list#but im gonna be honest. the second half of the show was very much not for me#ANYWAY. i changed my mind on this so many times i just need to post it and be done with it#the loyal pin#ayaka chan wa hiroko senpai ni koishiteru#reverse 4 you#pluto the series#the secret of us#23.5 the series#gl series#m: txt

Arcana Analysis--The Amazing Digital Circus: Gangle (The Moon)
Only the fourth so far, but this one was the most difficult for me in terms of choosing which arcana fits best. Here we go!
Next up is Gangle, a super-emotional woman with the motif of masks. Also the star of the most recent episode, which most of this essay will cover. I chose her card as The Moon, number eighteen in the arcana deck. A card representing illusions, anxiety, and the subconscious, it fits very well with Gangle's limelight episode, Fast Food Masquerade.
Gangle's most prominent character trait is her comedy and tragedy masks, both of which represent her moods. She's cheerful in the comedy mask, and downbeat in the tragedy mask. Unfortunately, the former gets broken easily, and it happens a lot, thus most of the time Gangle is in tragedy mode. Here's the thing, though--Gangle's real face is her tragedy mask. So what does that make her comedy mask?Fast Food Masquerade gives us an answer. Not only does the title itself hint at Gangle's true nature, it also evokes The Moon.
After yet another comedy mask is broken thanks to Jax, Gangle is offered an unbreakable plastic mask by Zooble, a player with an abstract body. She's delighted by the new mask, and it gives her a mood boost. Then we get to the adventure of the day, Spudsy's. Gangle is made the shift manager by Caine the ringmaster. Sounds like a moment of stupidity, considering Gangle's meek personality up to this point, but as it turns out, she has experience in the role stemming from her pre-Circus life. She takes the job very seriously, and the mood boost allows her to dominate Jax for once.
Now comes the dominant theme of the episode--"masking". We pretend to be different from our true selves in a certain situation. And it can't get any more literal than Gangle and her masks. Despite the mood boost, she doesn't seem to truly be happy. As a matter of fact, there are visual and aural clues that she's slowly losing her sanity over the course of the workday, meaning that she was dangerously close to Abstracting. The two key moments are when Jax and Ragatha comment on Gangle's new chipper nature; the former says "I like you better when you're sad", and the latter, hopped up on Stupid Sauce, says "you're kind of annoying when you have your happy mask". Both of them are followed up by a *tink* and a close-up on Gangle. Indeed, Gangle just seems to be faking her happiness with the comedy masks. After sunset, she takes a moment by herself to take off her mask and scream in frustration, unaware that Pomni was close behind. Despite the latter's attempts to reach out to her, Gangle puts the comedy mask back on and tries to mirthlessly laugh it off. She remains miserable for the rest of her shift until Pomni offers to close up shop for her. Once Gangle leaves, she throws away her mask, and despite being in "tragedy mode", she's able to genuinely feel joy and bliss, even if only for a moment.
We also get to dip into Gangle's mind and get some insight as to why she was especially stressed during the adventure. When she punishes Jax for his comment, she uses an instructional video where she makes fun of the viewer for having the dream of being a comic artist. It's a pretty specific rant, which comes back in the end when it's shown that Gangle is an artist herself. So perhaps before the Circus, she wanted to be a comic artist, but was instead working as a shift manager at a restaurant. Perhaps the adventure dug up some bad memories for her, which she kept to herself even when Caine brought up the idea of working at Spudsy's. That's an example of The Moon Reversed, where you push your feelings further within your subconscious.
To cap it off, Gangle's story is evocative of The Moon with the prominent themes of masking. Perhaps in the future, she may start becoming more comfortable with showing her real self and eventually stand her ground against Jax. (please Goose, she's suffered enough! :(( )

Seen anti shippers grow too comfortable about spreading hate
I mean that was always a thing but they have become increasingly more violent and fetishistic of violence, as a non American they sound like people who are obsessed with gun rights, if that makes any sense?
and the most frightening thing is that theyâre all teenagers. Teenagers who donât really enjoy fandoms, but who have to be performative activists to feel included and who are socially and emotionally neglected otherwise.
I can think of a few reasons why this is happening
Kid friendly spaces disappearing (both online and offline)
the shift in political climate (fandom is not an isolated universe)
overexposure to sexual things through mainstream media (streamers and streaming services, music)
Parents not teaching their children internet safety anymore
the implementation of the SESTA/FOSTA laws
What do you think?
I'm not super educated on what the SESTA/FOSTA laws are, but outside of that I wholly agree with this take! I think the point about performative, fictional activism was really well said =)
fandom no longer being as isolated as before is definitely a big reason from my perspective; over the course of the pandemic, areas of the internet that had previously been dedicated to more specific groups of people and neglected by the majority (like fandom) became mainstream. the lines between what should go where on the internet became blurred in general.
with everyone stuck inside, politics was among most other things that became discussed almost entirely online (and intensely so). Overloaded algorithms continued to serve more and more political/activist content (which, due to the nature of the internet, generated less-complex discussion than real-life conversation); I think this, along with the blurring of the "what goes where" lines, was chiefly responsible for allowing that social-media brand of overly-simplified, performative activism to permeate almost every online space. Of course, this includes fandom, and with so many young minds being confined to this online world during critical developmental periods (as well as with lessened internet-safety measures given by tired parents who weren't sure how to handle a global pandemic), mirroring highly-polarized, performative-activist behavior in fandom became commonplace.
a lot of it likely also had to do with people more immersed in common, mainstream media suddenly being plunged into the previously more underground world of fandom. there was (and still is) a lot of history and culture regarding fandom spaces that provides essential context for what goes on in them; because fandom has historically been a safe space for nerdier/geekier "outcasts" and a haven for things deemed "unsightly" or "impure" by society at large, those used to mainstream, "normal" things were shocked and in some cases horrified by what they uncovered. having so many others that were currently sharing in that experience gave weight to the idea that fandom should change to accommodate these kinds of newcomers, instead of promoting an ease-in and learn-as-you-go approach to new online spaces, as might have automatically occurred in the past.
It is, as is typical for me, 1 am as I'm writing this, so I hope it's not too incoherent đ anyways, thank you Anon for the very insightful ask! Feel free to drop by again if you'd like to reply or expand on any of your points ^^
