AFISNDOANSOANFN IT DELETED MY FIRST ANSWER. FINE. WHATEVER. ANYWAYS.

so I’m thinking there are two ways this can go down-

(with me flying fast and loose between 92sies and livesies)-

one: the poets become newsies. essentially they’ll be “filling in” the roles each newsie brings to the film/show. neil is jack, because of course he is. he’s the charismatic leader who needs more therapy than he can pay for. his davey is obviously todd, because he’s the shy, smart kid that likes to be hidden behind his boyfriend best friend. charlie is the comedic relief of a best friend, making him race. and since knox is his best friend who’s more than half in love with him, he can be the other comedic relief of albert. we all know meeks and pitts are in love (guys, they dance together. what?), so they can take the place of kid blink and mush, respectively. do I have to include cameron? I feel like I have to include cameron. I guess he can take the spot of boots, which feels rude to boots, but I think he knows I’m sorry about it, so we’re good. keating, of course, is our father figure news reporter, and chris is sarah (WHICH MAKES GINNY HER KATH AND OH MY GOD I LOVE THAT IM SO SMART). mr. perry can be snyder, the rat, and mr. nolan is pulitzer. and stick is crutchie (no, I do not care that he’s not technically a character. he is my baby, and he can be neil’s little brother. fight me.)

I really like that one, actually.

two: the newsies become poets. same concept, other way around. now, the most obvious choice is to make jack and davey neil and todd again, but that’s a cop-out and I refuse. so. crutchie deserves to be todd, because they’re both so cute. davey can be neil, with jack being his charlie (does that mean davey/crutchie? I don’t know. is javid platonic in any scenario? I think not.). finch is meeks, albert is pitts. race is now our knox, pining HARD after- wait for it- our chet danburry character, mr. spot conlon, who is engaged (against his will) to katherine pulitzer, the wealthy daughter of the headmaster, joseph pulitzer (sarah needs to come steal kath away so race can marry a rice man). les is cameron, but specifically livesies les. the other les(es) are too good to be cameron’s character. snyder can be mr. perry (AHHHH. DAVEY WHAT HAPPENED YOU POOR SOUL). and denton is still keating because I don’t know who else would work there.

…well, damn. I love both of those. option one’s definitely more practical and sane, but I adore the chaos and hot mess that is option two. oh well. let me know which ones you guys like.

OKAY what if each Character had their own part of 'Santa Fe'? After the strike, Crutchie is taken away to the refuge and Jack seemingly disappears. Then the characters sing Santa Fe on their own- unaware that the others are singing their own versions: Jack: FOLKS! We finally got a headline 'Newsie's Crushed as Bulls Attack' Crutchie's callin' me, the kid's just too damn slow. Race (telling Katherine): Guy's are fighting, bleeding, falling. Thanks to good old captain Jack! Jack: Captain Jack just wants to close his eyes and GO! Crutchie: Let me go....! Far away Jack: Somewhere they won't never find me and tomorrow won't remind me of today. When the City's finally sleeping and the moon looks old and grey I'll get on a train that's bound for Santa Fe. Katherine: And I'm gone And I'm done Crutchie: No more running. Race: No more lying. No more fat old men denying me my pay! Crutchie: Just a moon so big and yellow Night turns right into day All: Dreams come true....yeah they do.... Santa Fe Crutchie: Where does it say you gotta live and die here? Race: Where does it say a guy can't catch a break? Katherine: Why should you only take what your given? Why should you spend your whole life living..... Crutchie: Trapped where there ain't no future Jack: Even at 17 Jack and Race: Breakin' your back for someone else's sake Katherine: If a life don't seem to suit you how 'bout a change of scene? jack race and crutchie have the kind of co-dependent friendship/brotherly relationship/love that only comes out of being each others' sole support systems during the worst times of their lives. they can read each others' minds. they know immediately when something is wrong. they will be so so mean to each other but the instant anybody else is mean to one of them all bets are off. they communicate in sentence fragments incomprehensible to anybody else. they each know and guard the others' secrets with the type of intensity usually only seen in secret societies. ride or die to the most literal degree possible.

Jack sucks at comforting people but when he sees the slightest look of sadness on crutchie’s face he will drop everything, murder everyone in his path and go big brother mode and suddenly he’s the best at comforting people (he can comfort the others but isn’t as good at it as he is with crutchie)

80's newsies!!

and it's your typical shitty coming of age story. it follows jack and his group of friends (race, albert, crutchie, finch, tommy boy, and katherine) in high school. they get a new kid at their school and race immediately asks him to go to the arcade with their friend group. race introduces him to everyone.

davey meets jack. is a little enamored by him. tries to hide it because being gay in the 80s in high school was interesting. jack doesn't understand that he's allowed to be gay/bi and doesn't realize that's what he feels for davey. they fall in love through the course of the story. but they have a huge falling out when davey kisses him for the first time cause jack freaks the fuck out and shoves him away, yelling that's he's not a fag. they get back together though after race punches jack in the face and makes him go after davey again. then they're gay together.

race meanwhile meets a jock, spot, who looks all bitchy and mean but is really nice and doesn't mind the fact that race shoves a camera in everyone's face, no matter who they are. race hangs out with spot a lot and learns all about him and his life. race will sometimes blow off his friends to go to spot's house. they fall in love too but they only get together at the very end when race invites spot to his and his friends' grad party they're holding for themselves. they kiss there and the story is pretty much over at that point.

albert is already with finch at the beginning of the story. that's a large part of the reason jack realizes he's gay. they're publicly out at school and albert has multiple times beat the shit out of people for going after him or finch.

katherine is a year older than everyone and already in uni. she gets an open ending. she moves in with sarah as friends for her second year of university and sarah's third. they have lots of tension but they don't get together during the course of the story itself.

crutchie stays the ho we all know bro is and he goes to uni as a fuck boy. he's very respectful toward women, he just likes sex. (get it crutchie, living his best life out there, isn't he???)

tommy boy moves away for university at the end and gives crutchie a little kiss on the cheek as he leaves. crutchie has a gay awakening but he does not in fact make a move on tommy boy before the story ends.

Ok so here's the basics for my newsies Hadestown AU!! Please ask any questions you have I would love to yap more about this!

Orpheus - Jack Kelly  Both artistic, hopeless romantic young men with a desire to find/do something more. He loves hard and fast, but not easy. Wait for me is a perfect song for him, I think it really works.

Eurydice - David Jacobs  There's really no other way I would've done this, let's be real. He’s more hesitant, but has a strong mind, with doubt creeping in. He falls in love despite himself. All I've ever known would do a great job showing his journey

Hermes - Crutchie Morris   He has seen this happen before. He hates it sometimes, but he knows someone needs to tell his ‘brothers’ tale. He’s trying to let himself be optimistic, and sometimes it works…almost. But he loves Jack and David too much to let it not be told again

Persephone - Racetrack Higgins  He has long since given up being taken seriously for a little fun. He loves hard. He likes to drink and to party, it makes it all bearable. He loves his husband, but misses how he was and hates how he’s becoming. He knows how this story goes and he couldn’t care less because he knows happiness will be found again, even if sadness is found again too.

Hades - Spot Conlon  He knows he needs to give up the little things to succeed, and it’s almost a sacrifice he is willing to make. He loves hard too, in his own way. He is cold to the world, because the world was cold to him. But he is going to fix it, whatever it takes, because he knows he can do it. He loves his husband, and knows Race disapproves, and he hates it, but it is necessary. He does what is necessary. (Also Why we build the wall is so perfect for him)

The fates - I’ll be the first to admit this was a difficult decision, and so i’m going to lay out my thoughts because truth be told I have not fully decided yet. One of my first thoughts was Les, Sarah and Ester. They haunt David. I like this, but Mayer is left out and so I’m not sure it works. My other thought, which I’m leaning towards, is 3 newsies. I think this would be Buttons, Mush, and maybe Finch. These three as a whole are kinda a weird trio, I admit, but I think as a whole they would be able to function much as the Fates do. Buttons has the sewing aspect, Mush would really be able to push the story and David around as the Fates need to, and Finch has the forethought and careful consideration, but also pushiness and 'inquisition' that rounds out these three as the Fates. Katherine would also work as one of the Fates :)

i loveeee the movie and the stage show sooooo much i dont understand why sometimes ppl genuinely get mad about the other existing. guys more mediums for the same story is such a great thing. the movie shows u the jacobs apartment, the refuge, the lodge etc. its awesome. then the stage shows fantastic for the dynamics because its never the same thinggggg.

the movies one and done this is ur cast this is the final shot and thats that. but the stage show is so cool bc its the opposite. anyone can be jack. anyone can be davey. anyone can be katherine. anyone can be crutchie. anyone can be spot etc etc. and every single pairing does Something different. some lean into javey more. some lean into jack with every single one of the boys. some lean into kath and daveys friendship. its awesome. i luv u 92sies and i love u newsies the smash hit musical.
