After more than a year of searching I think I've finally found a solid local D&D group to play with, so I was inspired to make a simple ref for the character I'll be playing in that campaign! I managed to work on this sporadically over the past few weeks until eventually landing on something decent. I'm not totally pleased with it, but it's good enough.

Yiec is a gnome druid struggling to find answers in an unfamiliar world. Born with a facial blemish that's been labeled everything from a simple skin discoloration to a bad omen and a curse, she seeks to understand the nature of this marking for a chance to be welcomed back into her home village, having been cast out at birth. Yiec was raised by a forest-dwelling hermit and quickly stepped into that role herself before deciding to venture out into the real world in search of information. Her disheveled appearance and broken Common (complete with Slavic accent) are often points of interest to those already integrated into normal society, along with her misunderstanding of social cues. She tends to come off as incompetent despite her vast knowledge of nature, which is mainly attributed to her naivety.

Despite the misleading stature of gnomes, Yiec is fully grown and very capable of fending for herself...but her social skills definitely need some work if she's going to find answers about her face. Thankfully, her adventuring party is willing to help with that - in exchange for protection and a bit of environmental expertise, of course.

this year my challenge for everyone is to unlearn the association between love and morality. love is not something that is inherently morally good, and the absence of love is not something that is inherently bad. sex without love isn't morally bankrupt, it's just an action. people without love aren't less kind or less good, they're just people. when we can get past this false (and often unnoticed) dichotomy of good love/evil lovelessness then i think we are going to be able to take leaps and bounds in sex positivity, aro advocacy, certain discussions of mental health...

Vil huffs: "We wouldn't have to if you took your role seriously! And Pomefiore already hosted them during all weekdays last week!"

Idia sounding frazzled even through his tablet: "Just- can we keep them out of Ignihyde this week? They- they spent the weekend gaming and raising a ruckus! Everyone is still jittery from the shouting!!!"

Kalim sheepish: "I'd offer but after the incident at the last party Jamil kinda banned them from our dorm till we can get the scorch marks out of the walls"

Azul with a frown: "I'd normally host them at the lounge for an appropriate fee but I need it in working condition after last month's fiasco"

Malleus looking put out: "I did offer to let the child of man and their friends 'carsh' with Sebek as Lilia says, but they claimed that the dorms 'vibe' is nor suited to the relaxation they are aiming for"

In my heart of hearts, at the end of the session the snails seemed to disappear inside their shells with a little pop, and after curiosity got the better of the lifers, they lifted the shells up to reveal a pocket-sized, completely harmless version of their snails they could keep as friends

I was pouring a promised libation out to Hermes, Apollo, Aphrodite, and Dionysus this afternoon (I'd asked them for help with a personal matter involving a sibling) and as I was looking up at the sky talking about the situation I saw three hawks start to circle something a little ways in the distance. Hawks aren't exactly uncommon here but it had been a while since I'd seen any, let alone three at once, so it caught my attention.

And while I was trying to figure out what type of bird they were (not an eagle, too short a neck to be a vulture, etc) one of them swooped down into a neighbor's backyard and back up along the tree in my backyard, close enough that, if a branch weren't in the way, I would have been able to see its feather markings. While hawks were somewhat usual, experiencing that certainly was not. So, of course, when I got inside I looked up if any Greek gods are associated with hawks.

And, of course, Apollo is.

I've been thinking a lot about the difference between "this is just a Thing That Happens" and a sign so it was nice to see a direct example of how something differs when it's coming from a god.

Jackie and Shauna are definitely winning at most fucked up canon wlw pairing at the moment... Just watched heavenly creatures for the first time and some things are clicking.

Once you realize that Jennifer's body and heavenly creatures set the tone for those two from the start everything sort of makes sense.

because he is really good. he goes off! i mean, the vibes of that whole scene were impeccable - the creaking forest, the crackling of the campfire, the calm of night - but ren's voice goes so hard. vibes, and also technically speaking!

ren's got this gorgeous vibrato on low notes (you can hear it most times he holds a note at the end of a measure for more than a second) that is so warm and so inviting. scratchy, and deep, and always held for just the right amount of time. and he only does it on some long notes, not all of 'em - which is hard to do! holding notes at a constant pitch is harder than hitting vibrato on everything, and he has a beautiful blend of both that he makes seem effortless. (and he holds vibrato on hard sounds too! he hits it on the first "rising sun" which is on an n, which is imo hard to pull off well)

he also has the whole song down pat! there's a brief point (two notes, maybe three?) where he diverges from the melody, but he's still picked notes in the key of the song, which implies he could probably harmonize with the song too. and that is also very hard to pull off!

and just the whole - he has such a unique voice. it's emotive and warm and encompassing. technicals aside, it's a uniquely moving voice and it fits rising sun particularly well.

not to mention he's freaking playing guitar! which means at least part of his brain is focused on notes over the technicalities of singing, which means that all of his skill is instinctive! like he's probably not focusing on vibrato!

like when jimmy said "that's very good!" jimmy was correct! i was shocked when i heard ren singing. like that is Not what i was expecting from my minecraft youtuber!

anyway this is a pitch for ren. PLEASE sing more. please. a cover of the song maybe? for me??

Hey y'all! I have a question that (judging by how my mom reacted when I asked) is going to sound like a joke, but I am genuinely asking because I really don't know what's funny about it and I would like to So the other day at work a contractor called me, asked one question I could (and did) answer, and then spent 10 minutes complaining about his phone, insisting it was a problem on our company's end. The problem is his phone not dinging to alert him when he gets emails from us, and after I gently tried explaining a couple times that the issue is on his end, not mine, he just kept getting angrier and insisting that is was not on his end. I finally said "I'm sorry, I can't fix that. Is there anything else I can help you with?" He said, angrily "Well there's no need to be sassy about it" and hung up on me And like, I get that it's funny he hung up on me after calling me sassy of all things (far from the worst thing I've been called at work) but both my boss and my mom separately seem to think my response is funny??? I thought I was just being professional! Am I missing something?
