the substance is especially crazy to me for how like. sobering it is. when i was watching the movie i just thought about the massive number of ppl (usually women) who are always deriding their younger selves for being too “weird” too “ugly” too “fat”, and to a degree in which they almost seem to take this kind of sick joy in mocking their younger self— as if it’s not still them, as if it’s not still You. a lot of sue’s loathing towards elisabeth comes from this, that she’s “undesirable” and “unlovable” and “old”— and yet that’s HER! you are ONE! you can’t separate yourself from your younger self or older self, no matter how much you might want to. the moment wherein it becomes clear how doomed shit is is when sue & elisabeth act as if they’re separate entities and are constantly mad at each other, engaged within this deadly cycle of sabotage. the moment elisabeth truly cursed herself, really, was the moment she termed her other self “sue”, giving her a different identity. perceiving herself as a different person, even though that’s not the truth at all. she can attempt to separate the two versions of herself with a meaningless name but at the end of the day, it’s still you. and that’s the most terrifying part.

nothing makes me more insane than the phrase "selling your body" btw. like was i not also selling my body at every other job i've had where i had to be on my feet all day, lifting boxes, working in a warehouse, etc. why is it that sex work is uniquely labeled as "selling your body" while every other job is sorted into another category, no matter how much that job might have a physical impact on your body. lmao.

Every time women are behind in society it gets explained away with “it’s their choice to do that” but when men start to “fall behind” (aka they start to feel the consequences of not having everything handed to them on a platter just for being a man), all of a sudden it’s a terrible societal issue and we need to do something asap!

The gender pay gap? Oh, women are just choosing lower paid jobs so who cares? Prostitution is dangerous and degrading? Who cares? Those women chose to go into that field of “work”.

Let’s flip it back around on them. One of the current MRA talking points is that boys are falling behind in schools for a multitude of reasons:

1. 80% of teachers are female and somehow this leads to boys doing worse in school because they don’t see women as authority figures. In that case, why should we care? Men are choosing not to go into teaching and those boys are choosing not to listen to the female teachers.

2. Boys are getting worse grades. Why should we care? They choose to spend their time in class pissing around, disrupting everyone and even sexually harassing their female classmates and TEACHERS. Actions have consequences.

3. Girls find it easier to sit still and pay attention so they do better. Again, need I remind everyone that it all comes down to choice? Girls choose to sit still and pay attention, and boys are capable of this choice too! Until they choose to pay attention, why should we care?

It can go both ways!

(if I read that right, admittedly) Given I thought the furthest camp was "I believe there was a historical person who existed who the figure of Jesus is based on, and that he was a figure of importance of his time, but I also know there was a lot of deliberate rewriting of history where he is concerned, so it is difficult to find the kernels of historical truth between the mythologized figure" I am curious how you arrived at "not a real guy who ever actually happened"

-we have no archaeological evidence of the guy. no artifacts or surviving contemporary records.

-all firsthand attestations that he existed are written well after his death, in some cases by people who couldn't have overlapped his life

-there were a lot of guys named yeshua in nazareth around that time.

-crucifixion was a common punishment for criminals such as anti-authoritarian cult leaders

-rome annexed judea. we do have proof of this. a LOT of jews were mad as hell about what happened to their homeland and their religion and were exploring alternatives. and getting killed for it.

-it's entirely likely that a century later a singular Miracles Josh was syncretized out of the various young revolutionaries that stood up and denounced the religious and secular authorities of the day and then got crucified.

-i don't think any single one of them was the true messiah who actually did miracles and had the mandate of heaven any more than i think a greek guy named heracles was really born of zeus and did all that superhero stuff.

-christian sources love misquoting atheist and jewish scholars when they give very cautious answers along the lines of 'its very likely there was a yeshua of nazareth around that time who had some friends and said some antiauthoritarian stuff. because lots of people did. it would be statistically unlikely if every josh in town was nice about the roman occupation for like two hundred years.'

-was that josh back then our big boy jesus christ the son of god who actually existed? if he didn't, the church invented him anyway. if he did, it wouldn't matter. the stated position of the christian faith is that he definitely for sure existed and absolutely as a fact did all that stuff, and you have to believe it no matter what.

-but there's no proof and im not christian. so no. i think you guys made the whole thing up.
