You know when things seem to be going suspiciously well, and then you're like 'why should I be suspicious? I deserve good things' and then the universe is like SOUNDS LIKE PRIDE - BETTER KNOCK YOU BACK A FEW STEPS.
I got laid off very unexpectedly at the end of March. And I mean, out of the blue on all sides. My boss legit cried telling me that they’d just gotten rid of my position entirely and if she didn’t have two kids at home, she would’ve rage-quit on my behalf. This layoff came in the middle of the one year I decided to spend money - by paying for half of a major home renovation that my parents couldn’t afford otherwise (or would eat so far into their savings they would have none). Cue Panic Time.
But because everyone was so upset, they bent over backwards to help me get another job, and I was unemployed less than a week, got a job doing basically the same thing but for $10/hr more (no more unlimited vacation, though, which is lame). Huzzah! Panic Time is over!
New job was gonna start right in the middle of kitchen demolition, which I was supposed to help with to save money (my parents are in their 70′s and 80′s).
New job let me push my start week back a week to accomodate. Yay!
New start date is the date my new puppy was supposed to be coming home, and I’d originally planned on going out to get him.
It’s fine - new boss is a dog lover and said I could take a sick day to go get him and it’d be fine.
Things are looking good!
Here’s where the universe really sucks.
This was going to be the first time I didn’t get a dog from a rescue in my 37 years of owning animals. But between my niece and nephew, my dad being in his 80′s, my oldest dog going senile and my youngest one afraid of everything bigger than her, and not wanting to get an emotional grab bag of various and unknown behavior/health issues (we’ve seen it all - cancer, a stroke, early onset arthritis, severe and unpredictable aggression, etc), I decided I wanted a dog that I knew the parents, grandparents, great grandparents, etc, from someone who went out of their way with love and adoration for their pets to make sure they were healthy, happy, and sane.
I picked out Dalmatian (which are specifically bred for 3000 years to do what I wanted and needed from a dog), and his name was Oreo. He had a flower on his nose, and he was adorable. I was going to meet him for the first time in three weeks, after watching him grow up on camera.
Instead, the next door neighbors’ demonic and aggressive German Shepherds broke through their electric fence and attacked the farm where he was. They went after the horses, which needed to be sutured up, and they killed every last puppy, and maimed the mama who was desperately trying to save her nine babies from these monsters to the point they don’t know if she’s going to make a full recovery.
I love animals as much as the next person, but I absolutely would’ve shot these dogs. I don’t know that I won’t if I see them when (if) I decide to take home one of the other puppies from a different litter. This is not the first time they’ve come after the animals and even the people on the farm.
Tumblr media
Fucking fence your dogs in. Electric collars and fences don’t mean shit. Especially if you have absolutely no recall on your dog. I have been attacked more than once by supposedly friendly” pets. Golden retreivers. Labs. Huskies. Cocker Spaniels. Shepherds. Mutts. And every single time, all I’ve been doing is walking my dog(s) by on a public road on a leash, and every single time, the owners have gotten mad at me for my dogs (or me, in one very memorable moment) for defending ourselves and our right to a peaceful existence. I have had to pulls dogs kicking and biting off of mine, getting bitten in the process. I have brained one with a branch I found on the side of the road. I have kicked one so hard it literally went flying, only to land and come back after us. I have had to chase them down with a horse when they were loose in the woods and wouldn’t return to the owners and tried to bite the shit out of one of the two horses with me. I have had my neighbors’ Dutch Shepherd go after my horse while it was in its own paddock for the night - a half mile from the goddamn property line which is fenced meaning he jumped it or gnawed his way through it (Phoenix is a sociopath though, and kicked in the dog’s jaw - $6000 reconstructive surgery and zero fucks given by me). All the while, the owners are screaming at their dogs to come and being ignored, and then screaming at me for defending myself when their dogs don’t listen. I don’t care what breed it is. I don’t care what age it is. My barely fucking civilized coyote mix had 100% recall in the middle of a fight. I don’t give a fuck what your excuse is. Your dog doesn’t have more right than me to live.

what's weird about the fantasy high drama is that like. it seems to me like people forget d&d is primarily a) a game you play with your friends and also b) luck based.
I mean it's fine to say that "nothing felt like a challenge" and "they just dominated everything and there weren't any stakes" but like. it's not as if they weren't up against huge threats. they lost the mall fight. the last stand was an onslaught of enemies. they fought a dozen dragons from an airship. the fights were hard. they're just really good. they've had very good dice luck in general this season and are all very high level and highly specialized. fig is gonna beat deception and performance checks. adaine's gonna figure out the arcana. riz is gonna succeed investigations. like. for some reason their strategical competence and wisely picked abilities are. a downside? a disappointment?
the thing about d&d that you need to remember is it's first and foremost a game. it's mostly random and it takes you down weird paths and you're playing to have fun with your friends. the dice are literally telling the story that it's their time, it's their year. they've struggled enough. they've trained enough. they're good at what they do. and in my post about the academic/domestic/personal stressors being the focus, d&d doesn't have any other system to work them out than rolling different skills. that's what d&d is. brennan set specific challenge levels for different tasks and the players strategized to prioritize which abilities they were strongest in. the challenges were there. and the players rose to them. they were both smart in their delegation of responsibilities and lucky with their dice rolls. of which, both are foundations of d&d.
don't mistake them being good players and getting lucky with there being no hardship. just because they smashed through the wall, that doesn't mean the wall wasn't strong. they were just stronger.

I’m going back to loveposting! I’ve said everything I wanted to say, and quite frankly I’m not enjoying that energy at all. I much prefer lifting people up by looking to the good in them. I will continue to post the things I love about Dream, George and Sapnap. I believe everybody, deeply, inherently, is a good, perfect soul, and may be only temporarily waylaid—through the false ideas of fear, insecurity and lack of self-love—to the discovery of that expression of goodness. I believe what we focus on becomes what we see everywhere. So going forward, I will continue to focus on the goodness I can see.

People acting surprised when a morally grey character is actually morally grey 😲
THIS ….. i feel like a LOT of people consume media under the assumption that morally gray characters are characters who always perfectly tiptoe the line between black and white, and not…… characters who do horrible horrible things but still treat one single person with all the care in the world. or characters who are on the ’good’ side of the story and do good things while also being fully willing to cross any line they’re told to cross. and etc. morally gray characters are complex and can be anywhere on the morality spectrum except right at the very end of either side. they’re not a perfect shade of gray, they just aren’t completely black or completely white. sigh…….

For @sansebastinae and @boisinnot, my fellow saint seb truthers :)
+ the usual
Yayyyy finished a drawing! Haha only took me...2 weeks. I kept going back and forth on whether I could finish it tonight, and I really wasn't going to. But then I looked at the unfinished version on a different screen and was like oh? Not too bad actually?? So I finished it :) First of all, ofc, here is the process. Kinda weird seeing it for smth like this, it makes me feel like I'm the painter in rennaisance au, not Mark dhjfkf
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah I was gonna draw a silly renaissance au comic to accompany this(read: lighten the mood), but it's 5 am and I've still not really drafted it well, so! I'd like to finish it at some point bcs I wanna draw more chibi comics, but when I finish smth, I can't help but immediately want to post it, so part 2 will have to wait. I'll show you the outline though so you can at least imagine 😭

^ So many renaissance and beyond paintings of Saint Sebastian are always the most horny thing ever. Like pre/early rennaisance, yeah he was naked and all that, but they were pretty chaste, and uhhhhh suffering?? Well the newer paintings are suffering, but in a different way, if you know what I mean.
So I feel like Mark's the type to be overly pedantic about it, and refuses to make borderline porn of a saint, I mean, god forbid, Seb!!! But then he just. Does anyways. Because he can't control his lust for Seb even when drawing him half dead. I just imagine him holding the paintbrush in a death grip like "must not be horny. Must not draw him sexy. Must make him chaste." And then he ends up with the one seen above. Seb is all smug about it. "Wow you'd wanna fuck me even while I'm all bloody and dying? 🥺"
Mark: "oh I'll make you bloody, alright."
But god so funny to imagine Seb doing all these different slutty poses, like arching his back as much as possible, the cloth nearly falling off at all times, etc etc. And Mark finally lands on this pose bcs he hopes the suffering will outweigh the horny. It doesn't. Also Seb is genuinely serious once he actually gets into the pose, focus mode on. And honestly that's even worse for Mark, bcs it's so much more arousing to see Seb in his element, focused. Tbf I think Seb could be drinking water, and Mark would still find some way to sexualize it. Don't look at his sketches!! They're just filled with Seb doing all kinds of random activities.
Also! Here is the painting I referenced this off of, must give credit where credit is due ofc

The Dying St. Sebastian by François Fabre
Also this isn't really relevant in the context of this drawing specifically. But I looked thru a bunch of Saint Sebastian paintings while trying to find one I could reference, and I came across this middle ages one that actually looks so much like boy king seb 😭 I guess it really is meant to be!

St Sebastian between St Roch and St Peter by Pietro Perugino
Lmao but do you see the difference between early rennaisance and later work???

Absolutely the funniest thing about my current corner of tumblr is that pretty much everyone I've recently followed for Apollo-Appreciating Purposes are either genuinely Hellenist or just rather very into Rick Riordan's Trials of Apollo series which is wild because I know a net zero about both of those things.
#I've never been interested in Riordan's work and the Percy Jackson books I did read as a young lad didn't change my mind on that topic#Growing up I preferred a very one or the other method for my greek adaptational content#which essentially means either you're a play or an adaptation of a legit story or myth with recogniseable figures and plotpoints#or you're an original story with mythical elements but the myths and the adaptations and interpretations of those myths is secondary#Percy Jackson did both and it was very disorienting for me because the books were well grounded enough that when I came into contact#with some element I didn't recognise or couldn't remember I myself would get confused and go “Is that true? like really?? :0c”#Then I ran a library book club and Percy Jackson books were p much all the kids wanted to read#but they rejected all of my supplementary greek myth exercises and got a lot of stuff mixed around#because percy jackson does a rather good job of making a convincing argument that it knows its stuff and people will quicker cite that#than do readings of the much more difficult older texts and translations of text#It's not Percy Jackson's fault it's just a bad experience that stuck with me and by extension leaked over into Trials of Apollo when that#was released#Trials of Apollo was crazy because I generally make it my business to consume any and all greek myth interpretational media that bothers#to include Apollo (there is a shockingly low amount of things that do that)#however a LOT of novels especially never let Apollo retain the dignity of a god in their portrayals of him#and have him resemble a teenager more than anything even remotely close to an adult#I had just gotten finished reading a novel adaptation of the story of Coronis and Apollo with this same issue#so when I opened the first volume of ToA and saw that Apollo simply genuinely WAS a teenager#Frankly I just closed the book and put it back on the bookstore shelf and very calmly walked away LMFAO#I have nothing to say about Hellenists and neo hellenists y'all seem like wonderful people and I hope#you have a lovely time with your e-offerings and worship#unless you are my single personal friend with Apollo as your patron#then I wish you 1000 woes and 10000 divine brain blasts#toa#pjo#ginger rambles
