as always, i am going to take even the slightest hint of interest in my shakespeare parallels as an excuse to talk in-depth about it, so thank you lauren @sunsetsover for saying you were gonna google gawds in the tags of this bianca/bison parallel :) i'm sure you got a good enough answer BUT, it will not give you the Context, which i think is fun to point out here

so, for context, the quote i used in that parallel is from a scene where katherine has tied up bianca and is chasing her because she wants bianca to tell her who she favors among her many suitors. this scene in particular reveals a lot of the jealousy that katherine actually holds for bianca, both in terms of the fact that she is being pursued by so many men and katherine is not, and also in the fact that their father very clearly prefers bianca to katherine (which i ended up using for keen here)

in that line in particular, bianca is trying to get katherine to untie her and let her go because she doesn't want to be made into a slave. however, she does say that she is willing to give up her things (her gawds), specifically her clothes, if that will make katherine happy because she knows she should respect her elders. so, technically, when she is asking for katherine to untie and that she'll pull them off herself, she's talking about her clothes in order to give them to katherine.

BUT, given the way that jojo loves to take taming parallels out of context and put them in new context, i think it makes perfect sense to view that line as bianca saying she's going to take off her restraints herself. because that's essentially what bison did - he viewed fadel as keeping him locked up and forced to stay in this life where he's a slave to their mother, and so he found a way to take off those restraints. he found kant and had kant send style after fadel and well, that gave him some of the freedom he wanted, didn't it? and then after he has finally forgiven kant and been able to see that freedom again, fadel is here to try and put the restraints back on.

that's why i think the line from taming works so well - because bianca is asking katherine to untie her and bison is making sure that fadel won't keep him tied any longer. i also think the fact that bianca also says "wrong me not, nor wrong yourself" to be a good parallel here because is that not what fadel is doing? hurting both himself and bison for the sake of "protecting" them?

(I assume the intention of the prompt was a toku crossover but once again I kinda do what I please (also i did some toku crossovers in previous days kind of). Today's case of doing what I please is two fandoms whose estimated intersection is one person and it's meee)

im very new to fl so i might be missing some lore things, but why is the vake yearner so desperate to obtain hearts? from my understanding, when you die, the psychopomp there is chill to let you go so long as you show him your sick chess skills. is there something else im missing?

there's one thing you're missing, yes- the vake yearner is a noman!!

in-game/in fallen london canon, nomen are a christmas-exclusive companion with a special decaying mechanic. they're always made in the image of your FLPC (essentially being a clone of them) and they will almost always die, no matter what, come the end of winter.

when your "noman's friend" quality hits zero, the noman melts, and is removed from your inventory forever. there is no way to save it. there is no way to keep it. you can only watch and wait.

there are special challenges to keep the noman alive for an unusually long time (the longest and most difficult of these being the memories of a doubled spring achievement, which requires keeping it alive until early may) but beyond easter, sustaining the noman is pretty much mathematically impossible. it requires an absurd amount of expensive items that will take multiple years of grinding to accumulate, and overall it's just not worth it in the long run.

all nomen die. that's just what they do.

...............except, well, the vake yearner is a special case. she can sustain herself- for the most part- completely independently, with no assistance required from her original self (the scoundrel) nor her makers (the scientist and the academic). additionally, and probably far more importantly, she does not melt. unlike all other nomen, she can last forever provided she has a steady supply of sorrow and blood. she was even created in the middle of summer!

...but she can last forever only if she has a steady supply of sorrow and blood. because if she does melt, well...

that's it. she's done. she's a noman. she's never going to come back. once she dies, she dies for good.

it's just how nomen are.

darling!!! it’d be a pleasure!!!! Untitled Document 8 contains 2 wips, one of which is my lilyrosekiller fic based on chappell roan’s after midnight which i’ve decided actually yearns to be a bartydoralily fic instead and is now awaiting a major edit…. and the other is library fic!!!! library fic my beloved!!!!! it is perhaps a little known fact that the second chapter is fully written and mostly edited and just sitting in my docs until i get called back to it again….. here’s an extended snippet in the meantime xxx

Speaking of his horrible presence, he comes over again later in the day. Lily still hasn’t read more than five lines of her play or managed to peel back all of Barty’s layers of skin with her eyes alone, but the interruption is about as welcome as the tacit invitation to go wedding dress shopping in London with Petunia and their mother. That is to say, not at all.

She realises, as this thought crosses her mind, that she hasn’t thought about Petunia or their mother at all in the last seven hours. Barty doesn’t deserve any sort of credit for that though, she’s sure it's just because of the fact that she’s at the library, rather than the slightly obsessive observation she’s been undertaking. The library always clears her mind.

“What’s cooking, good-looking?” is his greeting as he collapses into the chair across from her once more.

Lily scowls, “Nothing is cooking, good-looking.”

He grins at her, “Aww, you think I’m good-looking, sweetheart? I’m flattered.”

“I do not,” she snaps, and then, maybe a little petulantly, “Besides, you were the one that said it first.”

“And what about it?” Barty is utterly shameless, “You are good-looking.”

He stops, looks her up and down, then somehow grins wider, “Implausibly so, in fact - for a nerd like you who spends her free time in the library during the holidays.”

Lily is no stranger to being called a nerd. Nowadays, she tends to just lean into it, so it’s a bit of an embarrassing reflex when she replies,

“Etymologically speaking, implausible can be defined as ‘unworthy of applause’, and thereby I would have to disagree with you because it’s certainly worthy of applause that I would place my ravishing good looks in such close proximity to you when I could be quite literally anywhere else.”

Barty whistles quietly, staring at her across the table, leaning forward with something she doesn’t particularly like in his eyes, “Oh yeah, talk dirty to me, baby.”

One day he’s going to find himself dead in a back alley and she won’t mourn him for a second. Lily shoots him an unimpressed glare in lieu of a bullet, but, because he’s the worst person in the entire world, it only seems to make him more delighted.
