everyone had their little thing that stayed on the jet. go bags come and go, hell, even agents come and go. but for their time being, everyone had a jet item that never left the plane.
for morgan it was his soundproof headphones. for hotch it was a very specific notebook. for you it was a small pillow that you adored. so on and so fourth
for spencer it was his blanket. his and only his because everyone has icky germs and a blanket lays all over someone when they sleep its a microscopic bloodbath. and he did not need any of that. he kept it on his unassigned assigned seat and would take it with him to sleep on the jets couch seat. so it really only ever touched him. it was his blanket that he never ever shared with anyone ever.
except for when he shared it with you.
one time, after a case that was particularly draining for you, he insisted you take the long seat on the jet so you could try and get some decent sleep. and you were out like a light but it looked to be a very uncomfortable slumber. your face was contorted with worry and your shoulders shook slightly every so minutes when a shiver would run down your spine. the jet was pretty cold and you looked like you could really use a comfy, warm blanket.
he pondered it for a second. did he mind your germs? no, not really. should he mind them? yes. but he doesn't. for whatever reason he would even be completely ok with you using him as your own personal blanket. he felt his cheeks heat up at the thought of being so physically close to you.
wordlessly, and selectively oblivious to the confused stares he was receiving from the team, he walked over to you and draped the blanket across your body; pulling it up to reach your neck and ensure maximum warmth. after all, humans lose 90% of their body heat through their head and neck. immediately the shivering stopped. you snuggled it closer and he couldn't help but smile watching you quickly find peace and comfort.
jj nudged Emily who cocked an eyebrow at Derek who smirked at Rossi who tapped hotch and they all took a second to watch the scene unfolding at the front of the jet. they could tell Spencer was already smitten before he even figured it out himself. they had their suspicions for a while, and morgan now owes prentiss $5, because this act of affection was confirmation enough for all of them.
Spencer felt a warmth grow in his chest, something he really only felt when he was around you. or thinking of you. or talking to you. basically, having anything to do with you. so he stifled his smile and went back to his seat, opening up his book and trying to ignore the teams eyes boring into him.
when you were shaken awake you were warm and safe and everything smelled like Spencer. and then you recognized Spencer's blanket had been draped across your body and you were holding one of the corners close to your chest. smiling at the mere thought of spencer, you looked up and were met with a smirking Derek.
"come on pretty girl, you're the last one on the jet again," he chuckled, helping you up.
"you can go without me i need to grab my things," you yawned.
he nodded and walked off leaving you alone with Spencer's blanket. you folded it neatly before placing it on Spencer's usual unassigned assigned seat.
the next time you guys were heading home on the jet you could tell Spencer was visibly very tired. a perfect coincidence set up by God himself to help you repay him for letting you use his blanket. you watched him scrunch up his cardigan countless times trying to make it a pillow comfortable enough to sleep ok but it just was not working. though, it was adorable watching his curls bounce around with each movement of his head, you wished some peace would grace his features once again.
you simply couldn't watch him struggle anymore so you walked over to him, gently lifted his head, and placed the pillow beneath it. he looked up confused but when he saw it was you and realized what you were doing he gave you a smile that made you melt.
the team once again took notice of this and started keeping a track of you guys in hotch's notebook. anytime you two did something couple adjacent, a tally mark would be made and bets were even placed on how many tallies it would take for you guys to realize your feelings. Derek told Penelope about it when they landed (because she was originally the one who had been trying to set you two up together from the moment you walked into the bullpen) and she had to be lead into another room to squeal. she was given an update on the tallies after each flight and often gave her own observations when you were all in office.
and so, they watched as you gave each other the blanket and pillow, brought one another coffee, read to each other, left work together, listened to each others none sense ramblings, hugs lingered, hands touched, smiles radiated, eyes met. they were rooting for you nerds to finally realize you were in love.
after one case, you had gotten a little bit injured. nothing major, just a cut on your hand after tackling the unsub, but it was enough to make Spencer fret. it was dangerous, and you shouldn't have been there alone. it could have ended so badly. but he couldn't even be mad at you. so you sat next together on the jet, silent and thinking, just glad to be in each other's presence. Spencer saw your eyelids drooping, looking more adorable than ever to him. he took the blanket that was bunched up next to him and draped it over the both of you.
you smiled at him, taking the pillow from behind your head and handing it to him.
"no you were using this." he whispered.
"its ok ill use your arm instead." you sighed sleepily, snuggling into his arm.
the two of you were bright red and absolutely soaring from being this close. dopey smiles were etched on both of your faces.
"how many is this?" prentiss asked, looking expectedly at hotch.
"this would be number..." he scanned the pages in his notebook, "87"
"for a couple of profilers they sure are bad at seeing the signs," Rossi chuckled.
they looked over and watched as Spencer pressed a kiss to the top of your head before resting his own on it as you snuggled closer to it.
"make that 88."

HI FAYE!!!
*tackles hug*
FOR THE BINGO GAME.
TELL ME ALL YOUR OPINIONS ABOUT HEIS, SHAY AND ARTHUR MORGAN!!!
I WILL HAVE THE POPCORN READY!! <3
--Nemo
AAA OF COURSE YOU ASK ME MY FAVORITE BOIS. OKAY OKAY HOLD ON TO YOUR CAPS.
Heisenberg:
I recognize Heisenberg is a villian and was like a mad scientist and experimented on corpses to make in soldats. But it was for a revolution against Mother Miranda so shh.
Also I do have beef with how he is treated by a lot of simps as a sex icon or sex god. Or like his only personality trait is horny. I cannot stand it. I would go more in depth about it but we’d be here all week and I’d probably be harassed in dms so whatever. Just stop watering him down to some horndog for goodness sake. Regardless of the more questionable fanon versions of him, I adore Heisenberg wholeheartedly. He captured my heart in a way unlike any other character (Arthur is a close second) and I’m happy to be able to appreciate him at full capacity.
Shay Cormac:
Aka: my biggest comfort character to date. (2 year anniversary of him being my main CC was last month) I adore this man with my whole soul and will defend him till I croak. Goodest boi and I will forever be salty they cut half his game. Maybe people would understand him better.
I also relate to him a stupid amount so my love for him is vast but a bit different compared to Heis & Arthur.
Arthur Morgan:
Sweetest boah to grace the ear. Love of my life and could do know wrong. Technically he committed a lot of crimes but semantics aside he is a gem. A diamond in the rough, if you will. He is such a himbo and yet at the same time he is sharper then what vibe he gives off. If I could I’d square up with his traitors and carry him around in my bag and protect him from ever getting sick. 10000/10 good boi. Would def smash with feelings.
Thanks for the ask, dear!

Beach Day
Dr. Spencer Reid/reader
Summary: Spencer Reid doesn’t understand the appeal of going to the beach so when Garcia plans a BAU outing, he honestly debates whether or not he should go. Turns out, when Y/n is at the beach, Spencer totally understands the appeal after all.
words: 2.8k
warnings: seriously none to my knowledge! a lot of fluff :)
a/n: Since its getting so warm out where I live and I’ve recently been watching season 8 (where Spencer says he doesn’t like the beach), I imagined what it would be like if Spencer went to the beach with his coworker who he has a crush on, I hope you enjoy! :)
“Come on pretty boy! We’re gonna be late and you know what we’re in for if we keep my babygirl waiting.” Derek Morgan playfully yells at Spencer Reid. It’s ten past 12 p.m. on a hot and sunny August day in Virginia, and the two boys are late for a carpool with the one and only Penelope Garcia.
“Morgan, why can’t you just go without me, no one will miss me anyway and I hate the beach.” Spencer replies in a frustrated manner. Garcia had been planning this for weeks, after the team had come back from an especially long case she thought what everyone needed was some good old day-at-the-beach fun. Through Spencer’s eyes however, you can’t exactly call an overcrowded area filled with unhygienic birds, sweaty, sunburned people, and sand that covers every inch of your belongings fun.
“Reid, what’s wrong with the beach? Just bring a book if you really want to, but we really have to get going man.” Derek asks, automatically regretting it when Spencer replies,
“Sandy food, pink skin, limited and unengaging topography, but mostly the drug-resistant bacteria spread by sea gull feces.” Spencer replies with a straight face, completely unaware that most people aren’t worried about the spread of sea gull poop or anything like that.
“Alright, kid, I’ll give ya that I guess. Fine, I’ll go without you, but I know one FBI agent in particular who’s gonna be awfully disappointed when you don’t show.” Derek says slyly, sure his evil plan will work. Spencer looks up from his bookshelf where he’s organizing his collection of 15th century literature from his mom, a slight blush forming on his cheeks.
“Y/n?, Morgan she won’t care if I don’t come to the beach today. Number one, why would she care about me? Number two, who wants to see me at the beach, my body isn’t exactly my most desirable trait.” Derek’s teasing face softens significantly, realizing the more real root of Spencer’s aversion to the beach.
“Alright kid, you have no reason to be insecure, I’ve heard chirps from a little birdie named Penelope Garcia that our very own Y/n has quite a big crush on you. It doesn’t matter if you have a six pack or not Reid, you have the sweetest heart of anyone I know and the biggest brain as well obviously, I don’t call you pretty boy as a joke, why wouldn’t Y/n like you? Come on, it’ll be fun, I promise.” Spencer feels awkward, not knowing how to react to Derek “lady’s man” Morgan’s motivational speech, he doesn't want to get his hopes up. To be honest, Spencer has liked Y/n since she joined the bureau almost a year ago now, she’s smart, honest, brave, and the most beautiful girl in the world in Spencer’s opinion.
“But Morgan, I don’t own shorts, I don’t have anything I can wear to the beach.”
“Well lucky for you kid I sorta assumed that, so I brought you a bathing suit, now can we PLEASE get out of here, I’m really not trying to be Penelope’s personal slave for the next 6 months.” Spencer reluctantly takes the bathing suit into the next room and puts it on, hating the way his skinny limbs look in shorts and an FBI tee-shirt, feeling as if he looks like a pre-pubescent boy. Even so, his desire to spend the day with Y/n persuades him to anxiously pack his bag with a few books he’ll surely need before following Derek out the door. They make it down the stairs and out the door of Reid’s apartment building before they’re greeted by the dulcet tones of Garcia yelling at them through the open window of her car.
“Derek Morgan! You are very lucky you are so handsome and delicious, I’ve been waiting here almost twenty minutes! I almost had to hack the parking ticket database to make sure I wouldn’t be charged, now get in! This is going to be the best day ever!”
“Sorry babygirl” Derek says, getting into the car and pulling Garcia into a greeting hug, “the kid here was feeling anxious, but I told him his little girlfriend would be devastated if he chose not to show up, so lover boy pulled through.” Spencer scoffs and Garcia squeals in joy, loving the idea of the two babies of the team falling in love.
The three of them get out of the car at the beach and Spencer automatically puts his sunglasses on, the sun beating down on him harshly, high in the sky and nearly at its peak of strength for the day.
“Well well well, it’s about time you three! We were expecting you to be no-shows!” Rossi teases from the spot on the beach the team has chosen. Spencer awkwardly tries to walk across the lumps of sand, the grains sinking through the holes in the sides of his signature converse sneakers, already regretting his decision to come here, like he says, he really hates the beach.
“Spence, you made it! I have to say I’m surprised, how are those sneakers working out for you?” JJ says in a teasing manner as well, knowing that when it comes to the beach, Spencer is one of the least prepared people she knows.
“Hi Spence, I’m glad you’re here.” Spencer hears from behind him, the shy voice of Y/n automatically brightening his mood.
“Y/n, I’m glad to be here.” He replies, the rest of the team looking at each other in bewilderment, not believing the sentence having just come out of Spencer’s mouth. Emily and Rossi had brought extra chairs so Spencer sits down and pulls out a book on understanding the theorems of quantum physics, having not read it since he was a teenager. He looks up from reading when he hears the familiar laughing and sounds of his two favorite kids, Jack running up from the ocean with Henry following closely behind, always looking up to his older friend.
“Hi Jack! Hi Henry! How’s it going guys!” Y/n says, causing Spencer to blush as he briefly imagines Y/n with kids of her own, their own, woah Spencer calm down, don’t go there, quantum physics, focus.
“Y/n! Will you come swim with us, please! please! please!” Jack says, the boys love Y/n because during the times the team hangs out, she can’t say no to them.
“Spencer, swim? please?” Henry says, walking over to Spencer and grabbing his hand, cold from being in the ocean. Spencer’s heart warms at the sight of his godson and he finds himself saying yes, not realizing the implications, he now has to take his shirt off and swim with Y/n, what has he done?
“Really, Spence? You’ll come swim with us! Yay!” Y/n responds, seeming so genuinely excited that Spencer finds himself getting less nervous. He hesitantly peels his shirt off, feeling surprisingly relieved to be rid of the sweaty fabric. He glances at Derek who is smiling at him, raising his eyebrows as if to say You got this player. Jack and Henry are getting impatient so Y/n takes her dress off leaving her in a bikini. Spencer automatically feels very awkward, averting his eyes to avoid blatantly staring at her, overwhelmed with how gorgeous she is, she’s truly the most beautiful girl in the world.
“Uh, s-should we g-go?” He asks, the rest of the team giggling at his obvious nerves. He remembers once Emily told him his IQ turns to 60 when he sees a pretty girl, maybe she was right because he feels, in this moment, he wouldn’t be able to read a single word of text. Y/n nods and they walk off with the two boys towards the ocean, Spencer hearing the remnants of the rest of the team surely gossiping about the clear tension between them. They reach the ocean and Henry and Jack run into the waves, splashing and tackling each other, getting water on both adults. Spencer shivers despite the hot sun still beating down on his now bare shoulders and back, trying not to think about his chances of developing skin cancer which are surely growing exponentially each moment he stays out in this sun.
“You cold Spence?” Y/n giggles, grabbing his hand and pulling him further into the water, his legs following even though the idea of being submerged in the cold water is not appealing whatsoever. Or maybe cold water would be better if Y/n doesn’t let go of your hand soon, the devilish side of Spencer’s subconscious whispers.
“Yes a little, water temperatures around the Washington D.C. area in August average in the low 80s, but I suppose the contrast between the 95 degree day to the cold water causes me to feel cold, funny how that works isn’t it?” Spencer replies, always trying to be more conversational, especially around Y/n, therefore less statistics.
“Yes Spence, now come on, it’ll be less cold if you just jump in.” Y/n says warmly, always finding Spencer’s statistics charming and adorable.
“No Y/n I don’t think that’s a- ah!” Spencer yelps as Y/n whispers something to Henry and Jack, causing them to splash him simultaneously, very quickly drenching him completely. Spencer can’t find it in himself to be mad, hearing Y/n hysterically laughing and high-fiving the boys in joy.
“Alright Y/n, you asked for it.” Spencer says, starting to laugh too despite himself. He somehow finds the courage to pick Y/n up bridal style and walk deeper into the ocean, dropping her in. She’s under the water for just a moment before Spencer begins to worry, statistics of drowning automatically filling his brain. He feels a tug on his leg and falls into the water himself. Y/n and Spencer now both in the water up to their necks, they look at each other and laugh awkwardly. All of a sudden realizing how close they’ve become, they both look away and focus their attention on the two boys still playing in the water, making sure they don’t get too far away.
“Can we play chicken? Please!” Jack says and Spencer looks at him with a confused look on his face.
“Chicken?”
“Come on Spence, this will be so fun!” Y/n says excitedly and once again grabs Spencer’s hand, pulling him toward the boys. Y/n kneels down in the water and motions for Spencer to do so as well, he follows, still confused as to what is about to happen. Henry climbs on Y/n’s back and Jack on Spencer.
“Okay, now what?” Spencer says, laughing at what the team must be seeing up on the beach.
“Now, we fight!” Jack says from Spencer’s shoulders.
Y/n and Spencer walk further into the ocean to more safely allow Henry and Jack to play. They hit each other and Spencer and Y/n find themselves suddenly chest to chest, Spencer trying everything to distract himself from his attraction to the woman in front of him. Finally Henry and Jack seem to get tired, asking if they can go back to their parents.
“U-uh, so that was f-fun!” Spencer says, trying to break the awkward tension that had followed him and Y/n since they had gotten so close in the water. Chicken, who knew?
“Yes it was Spence, thank you for coming in the water, I know you don’t like the beach that much.” Y/n says softly, smiling up at the taller man.
They make their way back up to the team, ignoring the knowing looks on their faces. Spencer sits down in his chair once again, suddenly noticing his stomach rumbling.
“Spencer, do you want to share this peanut butter and jelly sandwich?” Y/n offers. Spencer laughs, how did she know he was hungry at the exact moment he realized it too? He nods and she scoots closer to him to hand him the half. They joke with the rest of the team as well as the boys, trying to separate themselves from the horror they usually find themselves facing together. Spencer knows there is no science to the old phrase time flies when you’re having fun, but he thinks today might be an exception, soon it's getting late, JJ and Hotch opting to take their tired boys home, exhausted from the day in the sun.
“Spencer, before we leave, can you come with me to get an ice cream?” Y/n asks shyly, Spencer quickly agreeing before the anxiety of being alone with her can hit him once again. They sit together facing the setting sun while eating ice cream, Spencer knows he doesn't react the best to dairy but he can’t help it, he loves dairy, and honestly, he thinks he might love Y/n as well which is a terrifying thought. They sit and watch the sunset in relative silence, but it isn’t an awkward silence, it’s comfortable, Spencer wishes this moment would last forever. Too soon the sun dips below the horizon and their ice cream is long gone.
“Okay love birds time to go, it’s getting really dark and we should be getting home.” They hear from behind them, both of them flushing in the night air at the nickname and teasing done by Derek.
“Thanks for today Y/n, it was fun, see you at work on Monday.” Spencer says before following Derek and Penelope to the car, Y/n waving back before following Rossi, having car pooled with him and Emily. The drive home is silent on Spencer’s part, mostly spent looking out the window and ignoring the constant prying from his two nosy friends in the front, eager to know what happened between him and Y/n during the day at the beach. Garcia then drops Derek off at Spencer’s apartment as Derek lives closer to Spencer.
“Goodnight kid, I hope you had fun today.” Derek says before turning in the direction of his own home.
“Hey Morgan?” Spencer says quietly, so quietly Derek almost misses it, but turns around nonetheless.
“Ya kid?” He replies.
“Thank you for convincing me to go, it was really fun.”
“No problem pretty boy, anytime” Derek replies smirking before watching Spencer walk into his apartment building.
That night Spencer is lying in bed in severe pain, his fair skin blistering from the day in the hot sun. He knows he shouldn’t have been so stupid and reckless, allowing himself to become this burned. He was honestly having too much fun to stop and think about it. His phone buzzes and he grimaces, already expecting the worst, a new case, but instead, he sees a text from Y/n.
“Hey, Spence, are you still awake?” Spencer begins to text back but before he can he sees an incoming call.
“Uh, hi Y/n! Is everything okay? It’s pretty late do you need-”
“Spencer, I’m fine! Don’t worry, I’m sorry I’m calling you so late. How are you?” Spencer relaxes into the pillows on his bed when he hears Y/n say she’s okay.
“Aside from the sure to cause skin-cancer, painful sunburn covering my back in blisters, I’m doing great! How about you? Is there something you need or do you just want to talk?”
“Ouch that must hurt, you should have put sunblock on silly! I actually wanted to ask you something and I figured now is as good a time as ever. So um, Spence, I had a really good time today, and uh- I totally understand if you don’t want to, but would you want to go to dinner with me sometime soon?” Y/n’s heart is racing out of her chest as she anxiously waits for Spencer to answer.
“Like a date?”
“Yes- I mean not necessarily it doesn't have to be, we don’t actually have to go out at all if you don't-”
“Y/n, I would love to go out on a date with you.”
“Really? T-that’s great! Okay I should probably let you get to sleep now, I’m sorry again for calling so late. Goodnight Spencer.”
“Goodnight Y/n, see you Monday, can’t wait.” Spencer says before Y/n hangs up the phone, he finds himself missing her voice already. He looks at the clock, seeing its already nearly one am, now understanding Y/n’s multiple apologies for the late call. Spencer turns off the light next to his bed, noticing his sunburn doesn’t feel so bad now, ah, the psychology of love. Maybe, Spencer thinks before he closes his eyes, with Y/n by his side, a day at the beach doesn’t sound so bad.

Like Real People Do. Chapter 4

Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Rating: M, eventually will be smut.
Words: 2.3k

Request: OPEN/CLOSED
A.N We’re getting into the main crux of the story now! Message to be added to the taglist. thanks for reading! Much love, Cia
Chapter 4: Why were you digging?
Months pass and the early spring turns into hot humid D.C summer. You were never a big fan of the summer, you preferred the colder months despite the bad memories you had associated with them.
Things changed and some things stayed the exact same. You caught bad guys, which was typical, you actually ended up getting tackled by a drunk Unsub once which results in you being out of the field with a broken arm for four weeks. You found a cat in an alley digging through the trash near your apartment one day when you were walking home. You left food out for him since until one day he decided to come up to you. And now you have a cat you affectionately named Garbage.
You and Ethan (the guy from the bar) had a “situation-ship”, as Garcia liked to call it for about a month and a half. In your opinion, there was no situation-ship, you guys had mediocre sex until he wanted more and was upset you “worked too much”. So when he “broke up” with you, you weren’t really upset. Your heart wasn’t in it anyway.
You and Spencer never talked about that night at the bar. In fact, you hardly talked at all. Your Saturday’s together stopped, you had no excuse to see each other now you were finished with school. Now that there was no thesis, there was no thesis for him to help with.
That didn’t stop Spencer from occupying the space in your head rent-free though. You couldn’t help yourself, he was always in the forefront of your mind and frankly it was starting to affect how you worked. It was a paperwork day and everyone was working silently, merely coexisting and since there was nothing really going on your mind couldn’t help but wander. Spencer was sitting across you reading case files, taking occasional notes in a legal pad next to him. Your eyes instantly went to his hands as he traced it down the page as he often did when he was reading. You studied them for a while, long slender fingers resting on massive palms. You never thought you were someone who’d be attracted to hands but the amount of times you thought about them on particularly lonely nights, specifically the things he could do with them.
Yea, it was enough to make you a cheirophile.
You went back to watching him when suddenly one of the aforementioned hands were waving in your face.
“Y/N” he said. “I’ve been calling your name for 3 minutes.”
“I’m sorry, Spen.” You flush instantly at being caught. “What did you need?”
“I asked if you had a red pen I could borrow?”
“Yea.” You rummaged through your drawer, producing the pen in question. His hand brushes yours as he grabs it, you try very hard not to shiver at the contact but you couldn’t help it. “Keep it.” you say.
“Hey, are you okay?” He says. “You’ve been extremely out of it lately.”
He was right, you have been out of it lately. Spencer was putting you out of it. You hadn’t been able to stop thinking about that night at the bar and your almost kiss. Since then, it was like he was trying to constantly bring your attention to his mouth, whether it was by his habit of stealing lollies from Garcia’s office or the constant biting and licking of his lips whenever he was deep in thought. They had seared their way into your frontal lobe without permission.
Working with him had become exceptionally hard and an unwelcome distraction, especially out in the field. Last month, the two of you had gone undercover in a nightclub, an unsub had been murdering young couples who were overly affectionate in public, so you had to spend the night practically wrapped around the man you had an insane crush on, breathing in his scent. You sipped your “cocktail” (it was just cranberry juice) as Spencer kept his arm steady around your waist. Eventually, you hear Emily in the earpiece you were wearing.
“You’ve gotta do more guys if we’re going to draw him out.” She says.
“Yea and loosen up. If you guys look uncomfortable, no ones going to believe you’re a couple.” Morgan adds.
You and Spencer look at each other for a beat.
“If I do something that makes you uncomfortable, you’ll tell me right?” He whispers to you. You nod instantly. Suddenly Spencer’s arm is tighter around you, pulling you flush to his body. He dips down attaching his lips to your neck and jawline. You gasp, you had not been expecting that at all, you clutch your drink harder other hand moving to his side. He pulls you in tighter somehow, suddenly you feel his hand move downward until he is palming your ass, you bite your lip to keep your composure but his lips suddenly meet that spot behind your earlobe that he couldn’t have possibly known about prior. A quiet moan unintentionally rips through you and you could’ve sworn you felt his fingers twitch, squeezing your ass slightly. Emily and Morgan were right, the Unsub did approach you guys shortly after that and led you into the alley like he did so many couples before only to be met by your badges and guns.
Then there was the time a couple of months ago when you and Reid had gone to interview a child psychiatrist and discovered that he was a molester. Spencer had been livid talking to the man, making threats that honestly should've been promises to throw the man in jail. You had never seen Spencer angry or at the very least this angry, and for some reason that turned you on beyond belief.
You decided to close that can of worms and save it for another day.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about me.” You say, smiling tightly at him turning back to your stack of files. You couldn’t be mad at Spencer for your inability to keep it in your pants while you were working. So that’s what you did, worked and tried to avoid Spencer as much as you could. And if that night from the club replayed in your head often while you were alone in your bed that night like many nights before, it was no one’s business but your own.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the morning, you woke to the sound of construction equipment being used next to your apartment. D.C’s already so dense. What more could they be building? You thought as you got up to make yourself a much needed cup of coffee.
Now without your schoolwork or standing date with Spencer, Saturdays always felt too long. You drank your coffee, read a book, watched some TV and when you looked at the time it was still only noon. You sighed heavily before getting up to get changed. The weather was nice, you hoped a jog would at the very least tire you out so you could waste a couple hours napping.
So off you went, down the path of a nearby park. You had been jogging for about 30 minutes when you see a familiar shape in the distance. As you get closer you notice it’s exactly who you wanted it to be.
“Hey, Spen!” You say excitedly as you slow to a stop in front of him. He looks up from the book he was reading on the bench. He smiles once he sees you. “Y/N, Hey.” He says.
“What’re you doing in the park alone?” You ask.
He lifts up his book. “I just came to read, thought a change of scenery would do me better than sitting around my apartment.” He says
“Same here. Now that I finished school, it feels like I have too much time in the day. Now it just feels like I’m doing stuff just to keep myself busy, hence the jogging.” You say lifting your leg slightly, pointing out the running shoes you were wearing. You felt his eyes slowly trail up your bare legs, taking in your form slowly and diligently as if he thought he would forget it all the second he blinked. His eyes finally stopped at yours and you released the breath you didn’t know you holding.
“Well, I’ll let you get back to your book. I’ve still got 2 miles to go.” You say, as you start to jog away, you hear Spencer call out to you. You stop and turn back. “Yea?” you ask.
“Umm…” He says trailing off before taking a breath. “I’m going to see a movie later, I was hoping maybe you’d wanna come? It’s in french, but I can whisper-translate for you.” He says.
“Yea sure, I’m doing anything else.” You say, a little too excitedly. Calm down, Y/N, he didn’t even say it was a date. You think to yourself. “What time should I meet you there?”
“7?” He says.
“Great! See you at 7, Reid!” You say before jogging away.
------------------------------------------------------------------
You leave your house around 6:45, after spending about an hour and a half trying to find something to wear. Since it wasn’t a date, or since he didn't say it was one, you opted for something casual. A pair of comfortable jean shorts and your favorite band’s t-shirt. You did light makeup, and after an inspection in the mirror you decided you looked the right amount of cute and comfortable.
Spencer was waiting outside the theater when you arrived. He was dressed casually too, a blazer over a simple t-shirt, cuffed jeans and converse. He smiles brightly at you as you walk up to join him.
He insists on paying for the movie and you have to fight him to get him to let you at least pay for snacks but soon you are seated in the almost empty theater together.
He moves close to you as the movie starts, whispering translations in your ear. At some point halfway through the movie, his arm ends up around your back as he continues to translate, your hand falls instinctively to his thigh.
The movie ends eventually, and the two of you begin to walk outside together. You know a really good ice cream place that’s not a far walk from the theatre so you suggest going Spencer instantly says yes. You guys walk in silence for a while before you open your mouth to say something.
“Can I confess something to you?” You ask him.
He turns and looks at you. “Yea, what is it?”
“Je parle quatre langues, dont une est le français.” (I speak four languages, one of which is french.) You say.
He looks at you incredulously. “Pourquoi m'avez-vous laissé traduire le film entier pour vous?” (Why did you let me translate the entire movie for you?) He asks
“Tu veux dire, pourquoi t'ai-je laissé chuchoter à mon oreille pendant deux heures d'affilée?” (You mean, Why did I let you whisper in my ear for two hours straight?) You smile flirtatiously at him. “Je suis sûr que tu peux comprendre celui-là.” (I'm sure you can figure that one out) You nudge him with your arm. “Come on, I believe you owe me ice cream.”
----------------------------------------------------
You and Spencer, deciding you don’t want the night to end just yet, take your ice cream and walk to a park. You lick lazily at the cone you opted for opposed to the cup he got. You guys seem to try and catch up on everything the two of you had done since your last coffee shop visit. He tells you about the books and Doctor’s journals he’s read. You explain to him the entire plot of the latest season of Drag race. You talk and talk and talk, to the point you don’t even realize it’s getting late.
“It’s late.” he says, “We should head back.”
And so you do, the two of you walk back to your cars parked near the movie theatre in semi-silence. As the two of you approach your driver door, you turn to look at each other.
“This was fun, to hang out, I mean.” You say.
“Yea, it was.” He adds. “I’d like to do it more, if you don’t mind.”
You shake your head. “No, I’d love that.” you say.
He takes a step closer to you and you do the same. This was it, he was finally going to kiss you. He looks down at your lips and up to your eyes again as if searching for the approval you give a quick tiny nod. He smiles, moving a hand to the side of your head leaning into you--
Your phone rings. He takes a step back.
Moment ruined.
You look at your caller ID. “It’s Hotch.” you say, he nods at you while you answer the phone “Y/L/N” you say.
“Y/N/N, you need to meet me at the office. Right now.” He says.
“Why sir? Is there a case?” You ask.
“No case.” He says. “Gabriel Ferguson’s date has been set.”
That name.
You tried everyday to forget that name.
The name of the man who took your family.
Your innocence.
Your way of life.
Gabriel Ferguson.
The Beechwood Killer.
You freeze. Spencer is watching you, concerned now. “W-Why do you need me to come in for that?” You stutter.
“Because… he’s refusing to tell us where he dumped the first bodies.” Hotch pauses. “Until he speaks to you.”
You drop your phone.
The last thing you hear is Spencer calling out to you while everything fades to black.

Halloween
Right after 5x01 with Reid and Hotch both pulling away, Morgan and Emily take matters into their own hands.
“I don’t want to.”
Morgan, who up until that point, had really, truly believed that the worst of his year was behind him closes his eyes with a tired sigh. As if the pig farm hadn’t felt suffocating on its own, now it’s tangled in his mind with Foyet. The pigs, Mason, that poor girl, and Hotch. Because that terrible night hadn’t ended for Hotch as it had for the rest of them. They slept while Hotch lay on his apartment floor, his own blood soaking into his clothes. The hospital hadn’t even washed the dried blood from his hair by the time the team arrived.
Emily had the next day. It had taken Derek and Emily both to do the seemingly mindless task. Hotch had been uncomfortable, dirty and the nurses had given them the leeway to tackle the task together. And they were both very aware of how annoyed he was to have to succumb to their help. Hotch can hardly raise his arms to his waist, he wasn’t going to be washing his one hair. And as the oldest of his own siblings and still leaning heavily into that protective mindset, Morgan would heavily prefer it to be him there. So, bracing Hotch’s side with his own body, Derek had held Hotch upright while Emily gently scrubbed his hair clean of his blood.
The scent thick and acidic but slowly replaced with a smell distinctly hospital-like. The water had browned, the suds too dirty to even help only about halfway through. Standing there, Hotch’s body growing heavier and shaking gently against Morgan’s ribs he could see every bone in his boss’s back. And, too soon, they had to call it quiets. The monitors were picking up, distraught with the pain Hotch had hidden so well. His heart missing beats as Morgan had eased his head back into the pillows.
Emily standing there, white as a ghost, with that bucket of water. Hotch was only half-aware of them and their intentions by then. Watching Morgan behind half-lidded eyes and lips pale and parted as he took a dry rag through his hair. Morgan’s mother had always told him that going out in the cold with wet hair would give you pneumonia and while he had never known anyone to get pneumonia like that he wasn’t going to take any chances. Even if they were in a temperature-controlled hospital room.
And through all of that, Hotch had made it. Slowly, through shrieking monitors and more than one scare, alive. A fucking miracle.
“What do you mean you don’t want to go?” It’s Halloween. For as long as Morgan has known Reid, it’s been his favorite holiday. Hell, everyone knows it’s his favorite holiday. Even Hotch gets a little festive in the name of bringing even the faintest smile to Reid’s face. The idea for today, a party to celebrate Halloween, had been done with Reid specifically in mind. Being cooped up in this apartment isn’t good for him.
Reid who hasn’t actually looked at Morgan since he came in, twirls the frayed ends of his blanket around his finger. “I don’t want to,” he repeats. It’s one thing to mop about in this apartment. Here, no one watches him struggle to move. No one looks too hard, too long at his ill-practiced steps. At the crutches tucked under his scrawny arms. Worse is that if he goes, he can’t take his crutches. He’ll have to the stupid wheelchair in his room. Whos open seat is a crookedly carved leather smile, taunting him.
Morgan shakes his head and keeps at his current project. For the past week (has it been a week? He isn’t certain) he’s done nothing but tidies up every space around him. Having attacked Hotch’s apartment-- tearing up that blood-stained carpet, patching the hole in the wall, fixing a leaky faucet in the guest room, and cleaning out his worryingly empty fridge-- he’s come to Reid’s. The thing is Reid is going to make this process a little harder. There are bits and pieces of Reid in every corner of his apartment. Not self-deprecatingly bare like Hotch’s. Here, he can’t disrupt the way books lie because they all have been sectioned and left where they are with purpose. There is a purpose to his chaos more meaningful than Hotch’s out of sight out of mind.
“Well, you have to go.”
Reid frowns, biting his lip to refrain from whining. Despite having done more by his current twenty-four-years of age than any of them, they still treat him like a child. And while any of them might be forgiven for a bit of childish refusal he won’t be. Well, in all fairness, he is prone to a bit more childish things than they are. Reid had to be forced to go to the doctor’s for a check-up after getting anthrax and all because he had thought they might ask to do blood tests. What had made him go, in the end? Morgan taking Reid himself. It was humiliating but when they draw blood Morgan had offered his hand and Reid had taken it.
Now, Morgan’s just asking for a favor. For Reid to suck it up, just this once. To have fun and be easy. “Hotch is only coming because he’s under the impression this is all for you.” And it is, all for Reid. None of them care about Halloween. Hotch least of all. But the two of them are going to go crazy cooped up on their own.
Of course, that’s only mostly true.
It’s entirely Morgan and Emily’s idea.
“Okay,” Reid sighs, scratching self-conscious at his scalp. “I just…” he shoves the blankets off his legs. “Just need a few minutes.” A shower. He needs a shower and, if he’s granted the time for it, a pity nap.
Morgan hums, head bent to his current task of cleaning Reid’s strangely large collection of mugs lining his counter. “As long as you need,” he mumbles.
Two years ago, if someone sat David Rossi down and told him that on a Saturday in October he’d be celebrating Halloween as a fully grown man... he wouldn’t believe them. Add in the fact that he would be doing this because it’s a twenty-something-year-old genius’s favorite holiday and he’s doing it to lighten the mood of his old prodigy… well, he’d consider himself senile.
He should have stayed retired.
As of the last month, he’s been thinking that a lot. Don’t get him wrong, he loves the little ragtag team Aaron’s created in his absence but they're a little crazy and trouble magnets-- Emily and Reid attempt at a second Waco with Benjamin Cyrus, the bombing in New York, and George Foyet. All within the span of a year. He’s only heard about some of the other things they did before he came back.
These freaking kids are crazy.
“Will you just listen to me,” Dave is multi-tasking. Aside from picking out comfortable clothes for the evening he also has got to swindle Hotch into coming out to the party. “For once in your life, Aaron, just listen to me.” As dramatic as that may sound, it’s kind of fair. Even when they prodigy and mentor, Aaron had a flair for taking Dave’s instructions in one ear and out the other.
“Dave,” comes Aaron’s soft rebuttal. He’s exhausted. Much to his chagrin, three days rest has done nothing to mend the bone-tired ache in his body. Add the depression he can feel settling across his sternum and the way his ribs feel like they’re being pried open… He has no interest in watching his team get drunk at Dave’s house. Call him a buzzkill or a killjoy to heart’s content, that’s not going to change his mind.
Besides, the last thing he needs is to start himself into a bad habit of drinking every time he’s sad. Then what? He starts himself down a road of addiction. He comes to work drunk. Derek tries to say something. Dave is worried. He gets fired. He’s no better than his own father.
Rossi’s voice softens, any of the agitation previously in his voice is gone. “Aaron,” he calls through the speaker. “I’m not asking. Emily’s on her way right now to come to get you.” He sighs under his breath, just tired, not even mad. “You can make that hard for her,” Dave offers, knowing that’s what Hoch is going to be inclined to do. “I think we both know she deserves a break from that, though.”
Hotch feels the defeat pull his shoulders down. He’s been an asshole lately. Logically, he knows it’s a progression of all the emotions he’s feeling and burying. Emily doesn’t hate him for that but he knows she’s starting to feel overwhelmed by it. And given how successful his other attempts at pushing everyone else away has been, he might just owe her a little reprieve. To do this one thing without an entire battle.
“I’ll… I’ll be there.”
Dave smiles on the other side of the line, content with himself. “Thank you, Aaron. I will see you there, kiddo.”
It’s always the smartest people that fall for the simplest tricks.
Unlike Derek, Emily does feel bad about their plan. Logically, she’s very aware of how beneficial it’s going to be. If they don’t invite themselves over, Reid won’t ask anyone to come. Which means that he’s got to be getting his meals some other way. The thing is, if he were getting them delivered by a friend unknown to his team members, there should be something left over. Food in his fridge or trash in his garbage can. But there’s nothing.
Why does love have to be so difficult? How is it that some people understand it and others are stunningly unaware? Somehow wrapping their pretty little heads around this idea that they are undeserving or tricksters for having tricked someone into caring about them. If they didn’t love Reid would they feverishly watch over him? Did he really consider himself that sinister? That malicious? That he could trick profilers into loving him? Let it be clear, there is no trick. They are not so foolish and he not so unlovable.
“Derek, I think we might--”
Reid’s wobbly. He’s not yet mastered the crutches (at all). His practice comes only from the hospital and then his instructions had been brief before he was sent down the hall. A nurse just needing to see he could maneuver them and that they were at the right height. So, as bitter as he is to admit it, Derek’s lightly placed hand on the small of his back is very helpful.
Turning to see Emily, Reid lurches dangerous and Morgan moves quickly to stop him from falling. Just behind them, SUV pulled up onto Rossi’s lawn as close as she could pull it up, Emily is helping Hotch out of the car. Even from here, he can hear the lowered grumbling shared between the two. Despite being unable to see Hotch except for one brief moment, Reid’s glad to at least hear the other man. Him and Emily clipping rough comments back and forth. Bordering on rude but it’s between them and they’ve always let one another slide in these areas.
Vaguely he can piece together that they’re arguing about whether or not Morgan’s help is needed. “--wheelchair, that you made me leave-- I will take you back-- walker-- asshole!” Despite how angrily they nip back and forth, it’s all in what they don’t say. Hotch falls into Emily’s guiding step. Not even breaking from his own comment as her hand comes around his hips and effortlessly supports his weight as they take a step up. Neither taking the blow below the belt to note how Hotch’s words get cut off by a hardly contained whimper of pain or how choked his quick, distressed breathing becomes.
Morgan’s help is needed but Emily is too focused on keeping Hotch’s feet firmly planted on the ground and Hotch too worried about not busting his ass on the ice.
Reid jerks as Dave’s front door is thrown open. One hand on his hip, an apron over his chest, he shakes his head at the sight of the four of them. “I can hear you two arguing like children from in the house!” he shouts. He steps out onto the porch, tucking the towel in his hand into his pants. “Grown adults out here acting like children!” There is an unmistakable David Rossi laced fondness in his tone. That, despite his haste movements and dry frown, is taken as such because they know him. And he knows Hotch and Emily well enough to know this would happen.
“Get yourselves inside,” Rossi’s entire body changes when he sees Morgan and Reid. A simple passing hand down Morgan’s back for encouragement. “There’s root beer in the bottom drawer in the fridge, have Henry get you one!”
Reid smiles, suddenly excited for this afternoon. Root beer is… it’s the keystone of his childhood. There was not a matter he and his mother couldn’t handle with a little root beer. And while he doesn’t indulge himself often with that luxury (still some part of his brain fails to comprehend that he has the money to get it) Dave always has it. Hearing that Henry is here, implying Will and JJ too, he feels himself growing giddy. Pleased. He can’t wait to talk to them. For Will to hit his shoulder with his fist just a little too hard and to rustle his hair. JJ hovering and laughing. Henry. Smiling laughing.
Dave keeps going.
His frowning turning into a small while Hotch’s dark eyes find him, a glint of hope. “Our poor hero,” Dave greets in a half-jab at Hotch. He cups the younger man’s cheek, smiling at him. “I assume Emily has been her cruel and unusual self?” Once again, another jab. It’s a perfect balance. He neither takes Emily’s side (exhausted by Hotch’s antics) nor Hotch’s (exhausted by Emily’s antics).
They both scoff, at both implications.
“Hotch is being an asshole,” Emily grumbles, childishly sticking her tongue out at him. “Per his usual self.”
Hotch turns to Dave and returns, “to answer your question, yes she is.”
Wedged between Dave and Emily, Hotch makes it to the porch. Emily only hits him once. Once. He deserved it.
“Would you two behave?”
They get all of two steps in before JJ puts a stop to it. You see, no one ever listens to Dave. Not once has anyone ever listened to Hotch but JJ. No, to JJ, they always listen. And with a slow final few blows, Hotch and Emily stop bickering.
“Now,” JJ has flour on her chest. An honor which means Rossi has let her within his kitchen. “Go sit,” she points to the living room, stepping aside to let them through. “Behave yourselves or I’m not letting you eat until you hug and tell each other you love one another.” Her grandmother used to force that punishment on JJ and her sister as children. Cruel, she had thought then, but JJ has learned it to be very useful. As they pass, she hears them both grumble something about Hotch’s mostly liquid diet and how Emily doesn’t think that’s very fair. JJ throws her own towel at their heads. It’s well worth the shared smirk of mischief shared between Hotch and Emily.
Little deviants, she thinks with an eye roll. It’s Halloween so she lets it slide.
In the living room, Reid and Hotch are left while the others fight over one another in the kitchen. The clatter is heard through the whole house. Morgan making Garcia laugh, a barking sound that draws a smile from Reid. Joyous. Emily lightly teasing Rossi for what she teases is new greying in his hair. She asks if he’d like her to dye it for him the next time he gets his hair colored. Her triumphant laughter is just as freeing.
“Hotch?”
Beaten by the effort it took to walk all the way to the living room, Hotch had mostly succumbed to his placement on in the lazyboy. A chair, in which, he had never sat once in all the years he’d visited Dave’s. But the recliner is large and he can easily lean to support his side. Keeping an arm wrapped around his aching side. Without opening his eyes, head tilted back he hums. “Yeah?”
Reid’s knee is carefully surrounded by pillows. Even if it’s jostled, it’s fully supported in every direction. He’d been sitting here, watching Hotch’s face steadily grow blank. Masking his pain. He’d wanted to know if Hotch too had been tricked into coming. But then, as Morgan, followed closely by Garcia and the others, step in and Reid finds he doesn’t actually need to know. Hotch came, didn’t he? Left the safety of his dark apartment in favor of their boisterous company. Of little Henry in his Spiderman costume and Garcia and her own elaborate Harry Potter costume.
Derek hands Reid a plate, mostly finger foods a bit of pasta. His plate mirrors Henry’s. While the other’s all eat healthy amounts of pasta. Will sneaks him a napkin, which confuses him, until Will covers his hand over Reid’s and whispers “there are eight Oreos in this napkin”. Sweets, which JJ and Garcia had deprived him until he cleaned his plate. And when JJ caves, Reid’s stomach full of the carrots, crackers, and grapes his plate had primarily had (as well as those Oreos), and brings him a slice of pie and ice cream Will only shakes his head with a smirk.
Hotch manages a few spoonful's of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.
“You could eat something else,” Dave ventures, scowling. But Hotch’s body is very displeased and what little solid food he’d managed to eat in the last few days was having a tendency to come right back up. Abdominal trauma, the doctor’s kept informing them, often caused this. They just needed to wait it out.
“He’s got the palate of a toddler,” Emily mumbles but she means it fondly. She punctuates it by throwing a carrot at his head. He doesn’t have the dexterity to swat it out of the air so it hits his head and he just scowls at her.
Reid sides with Hotch. “Chicken noodle soup is the best soup,” he offers in Hotch’s defense. Blushing when Hotch just looks sadly at him, as if broken by the idea that Reid is the only person left to defend him.
“It is,” Garcia tries to add, helpfully. She smiles encouragingly to Hotch but once again he takes them siding with him poorly. If all the sympathy he can garner is from Reid and Garcia, he’s hopeless. He loves them dearly but they effortlessly take his side. “And you leave my boss man alone! If he wants to eat chicken noodle soup then you let him.”
Hotch hums to that, quirking an eyebrow at Garcia, and looking down at Emily. Of all the places for her to sit, she’d chosen the floor. With a whole floor to choose from, she still sat down right at his feet. Resting her back against his shins. Which he didn’t mind but he knew she’d done it just to annoy him.
Henry grows tired of his adult company and with the sun falling, he knows what’s coming. Even at three, he’s aware of what he’s supposed to be doing.
“Go on,” Hotch encourages. He knows they’re only holding back for two reasons: Reid and him. But Henry shouldn’t suffer just because he managed to piss off the one Unsub brave enough to attack him and Reid unfortunate enough to get shot. “We won’t go anywhere. I’ll put on Doctor Who,” he bargains. “Reid won’t go anywhere.” But it’s not really Reid they’re worried about. “I’ll take a nap,” he offers. Which is what his body needs but he’s not so sure he’ll actually commit to that.
“Don’t move.” Emily orders.
“I’ll make sure he stays put,” Reid says, with a nod. But given how stupid they both are, Emily loves the commitment but doesn’t take the offer too seriously. Hotch with a blanket tucked over his legs and Reid happily humming away to the Doctor Who theme song, they’re left to the silence of Dave’s house. The others out taking Henry around the block for some trick or treating.
Hotch does take that nap and Reid contently gets sucked into Doctor Who. Content in ways they both thought were only possible locked away in their own misery.

Better Than Me (Spencer Reid)
Y/N notices that her boyfriend, Spencer Reid, is spending a lot of time with Alex Blake. She begins to think that he has feels for Blake and confronts him about it.
--
"What have you heard about the new recruit?" Garcia asks. "I haven't heard anything about her, baby girl. But I'm assuming you know most of it." Morgan states as he takes a sip of his coffee. Morgan, JJ, Garcia are conversing near the glass doors of the BAU.
Which is probably a bad idea considering she could walk in and hear them at any given moment. But Garcia is eager to know who this recruit was. Reid walks in with his messenger bag and has two cups of coffee in his hands.
As soon as his eyes meet Y/N, a small smile tugs at his lips. In a few strides, he is by her side. "Good morning, baby," he states as he presses a kiss on her temple.
He hands her a cup of coffee and she says, "Good morning." "I wish I could kiss you right now," he whispers into her ear. "And what's stopping you?" "You know what," he says, his eyes narrowing into hers.
The rest of the team goes quiet and her cheeks redden because she thought that they overheard her and Reid's conversation. She look to the group to see that they were looking at the recruit. She looks like she is in the late 30's and attractive.
"She's standing right behind me, isn't she? We're doing this whole thing again?" Garcia asks. Y/N gives her a single nod and she slowly turns around to see the new recruit. She dashes out of her prescene and goes back to her office.
The rest of the team besides Y/N and Derek leaves. "Derek Morgan, it's nice to meet you." Derek greets with a handshake. "Blake, nice to meet you." "Hi, I'm Y/N Y/L/N," Y/N state as she shakes Blake's hand. "Meet at the round table in 10," Hotch announces.
Y/N walks to her desk to see Reid leaning against it. "Did Garcia just run away from Blake?" he asks. "Yes, she did." Y/N says with a chuckle. "She wasn't like that with me was she?" "Barely, she loved you before she even met you. Just like I did," he states as he slowly links his hand with hers.
A few weeks later, Y/N has been noticing Reid spending more time with Blake. She understand that it's nice to have someone who is on the same wave length with you. That was how it was with her and Hotch until Rossi got in the picture.
She's trying not to let it get to her because she know that Reid cares for her, but there's a small voice in her head that thinks, "What if he wants to be with her instead of me?" Morgan noticing that there was something wrong almost immediately.
"Hey, you okay?" Morgan says, nudging her arm softly. "Fine," "I knew it," "Huh? Knew what?" "You aren't okay with Reid spending so much time with Blake,". There was a moment of silence before she says, "I'm definitely questioning, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted a break,"
"Whoa, slow your roll there sweetheart." "Reid loves you, Y/N. I've seen his eyes sparkle when someone just mentions your name." he adds.
"Yeah," she say softly as she rubs the back of her neck. "Alright, let's go for a little ride." he says, standing from his chair. "What, no, we have to stay here to piece things together."
"And we can't do that with your heads in the clouds, come on." she hesitantly rise from her chair and follow him out of the room. "Hey, is everything okay?" Blake asks and Reid's eyes fall to Y/N. Y/N tries not to make eye contact with him.
"Yeah, just need to get some air." She takes a step to follow Morgan and Reid holds her back by her hand. "Hey," he says softly. "You have the crease on the side of your eyes. That happens when you are too deep in thought, what happened?" he adds.
"Nothing, Reid. I just don't feel well," Y/N explains. He looks into her eyes for a moment to detect any tells that she's lying. "I'll be here when you're ready to talk," he says as he presses a kiss on the corner of her mouth.
He pulls away from her to walk into the conference room with Blake. She sighs and immediately miss his warmth. "Still think he wants Blake?" Morgan asks. "Let's go," I say, taking lead. Later that night, Reid drives Y/N home in hopes of her telling him what was wrong.
"Please tell me what's wrong?" "There's nothing wrong, Reid." "Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" he asks. "It's just.. when were you going to tell me?" "Tell you what?" "That you have feelings for Blake," "What?" Reid says in pure disbelief.
"I understand why, she's pretty and closer to your level of intelligence than any of us. I'm not entirely mad about it, i just wish you-" "Stop, just stop, Y/N. What? Where is this coming from?" Y/N notices that Reid speeds up a little. "Why else would spend so much time with her?"
"I see Blake as a friend and only as a friend," "Why?" The next thing that Y/N knows, they are pulling up into Y/N's driveway. "Because I already have a girlfriend that I deeply care about." He holds Y/N's hands into his and caresses the top of them with his thumbs.
"Baby, I went through all the obstacles that you sent my way so that I could earn your trust. I wouldn't do anything to question that, okay? I promise." he adds. "I'm giving you a way out Reid," Y/N says as she pulls away from him.
She gets out of the car and advances to her front door. Reid gets out of the car to say, "I know that it's easier for you to let go than to stay and allow yourself to be vulnerable, but you're not the only one being vulnerable here." Reid says, making Y/N stop in her tracks.
She faces him and he was few feet away from her. "I'm so sorry, Reid. Oh my God." Before she could say another word, Reid engulfs her in a hug. He cups the back of her head as his other arms snakes around her waist.
"I'm sorry that I made you question our relationship," "Don't blame yourself for my insecurities." Y/N says against his neck. "Come on, let's have a movie night." he suggests as he pulls away from her a little.
Y/N doesn't say or do anything because she getting lost in her own thoughts. "Baby?" He adds, caressing her cheek with his thumb. Tears prick her eyes and Reid's heart sinks in his chest.
"I'm so sorry," she says between sobs. "There's nothing for you to be sorry about," he reassures, but there's not much that can get through to her when she gets lost in her own thoughts.
He takes her hand and walks to the front door. He searches for the spare key and uses it to open her door. He walks her inside and has her stand by the couch. He knew exactly what to do to cheer her up. He takes a few steps back and rushes towards Y/N. He ducks his head and wraps his arms around her to tackle her into the couch.
A yelp escapes her lips as her back comes into the contact with the couch. Reid presses many kisses all over her face and lips, making her giggle. She turns her face away and he continues to kiss her cheek and neck as he pins her arms down.
He finally pulls away from her and they look at each other with big smiles on their faces. "Thank you," she says. He captures her lips in a slow, loving kiss. "Any time, pumpkin."

New Beginnings~Chapter 3
This is shorter than I’d like but hopefully that’s okay. I noticed my timeline was all screwed up so the book is actually set in 2020, my bad. Also the pandemic doesn’t exist in this universe. Enjoy!
4 1/2 Months later…
Ryley PRO//
It’s been over 4 months since my accident and I am finally out of all my casts and no longer have to use a wheelchair to get around or write with my other hand. I won’t sugar coat it the first 4 months were hell and there was a lot of tears and lot of moments where I wanted to give up but Christen, Alex and our teammates made it all worth it. They helped me through the lows of physical therapy and they were there to celebrate the highs too. They had to return home after the first 2 weeks but came to visit at least once a month if not more. I was initially worried that I wasn’t going to recover in time for the Olympics at the end of July but after putting in a lot of work and pushing myself past my limits sometimes I was able to get through physical therapy much sooner than expected and I was able to show Vlatko that I still deserved a spot on that roster.
After that scare I had in the first month when I woke up not being able to breath the girls took me to a doctor and I learned that I did in fact have asthma and that I had experienced a laryngospasm because of it. I was given an inhaler and everything was explained to me so now I know what to do if it happens again, but I haven’t had one since, nor have I had any asthma attacks. Alex and Chris hovered a lot after that but now they’re much better at trusting that I’ll be okay.
I ended up finishing my junior year online and when I was able I moved back to the group home in Colorado. I didn’t want to but I couldn’t remain under Christen and Alex’s care if I wanted to be able to travel with the team this summer to Japan. They would have had to adopt me in order for that to work but I still wasn’t ready and they understood. We still text and call all the time of course and they come to visit me when they can. I still haven’t told them the true extent of how poorly I’m treated here but I decided that was for the best.
It was warm out today and I had decided to ride my skateboard around town, my free time before I had to leave for the olympics was coming to an end so I had to take full advantage of it. We would be getting on a plane in a week and then hopefully we would return home with the gold and we could say that we pulled off the impossible: World Cup champions one year and olympic gold medalist the next.
I reluctantly decide to head back to the group home after another hour and when I get there it’s no surprise that the house is full of potential adoptive parents and families. After politely introducing myself to a few of the people I make my way upstairs knowing no one would be interested in getting to know me. I check my phone and see I have a few texts and missed calls from Alex.
“Hey sweet girl, hope you’re having a good day. Chris and I Love and miss you.”
Read one text
I decided to call her as I had been missing their voices. She picked up on the third ring
“Hello?” Came her raspy voice through the phone.
“Hi Alex.”
“Well hello my sweet girl, how are we doing today?”
“I’m doing good, I miss you guys though.”
“I know but we’ll see you really soon.”
“Next week, do you think we’re ready?”
“As ready as we’ll ever be baby.”
“Am I ready?”
“Don’t second guess yourself, of course you are. You are going to do amazing I just know it.”
“Thank you for always believing in me.”
“Always have, always will. I love you kid.”
“I love you too.”
“I gotta go but we’ll see you soon okay?”
“See you soon. Tell Chris I said Hello and that I love her too.”
“I will, bye R.J.”
“Bye Alex.”
While I was talking to Alex I was completely unaware of Ms.Williams listening outside the door and when I hung up Ms. Williams stormed into my room, completely disregarding my “Knock first.” Sign, yanked my phone out of my hand and prevented me from taking it back,
“This is now mine, thank you.”
“What did I even do?!”
“You were talking to that Alex Morgan girl.”
“Okay first of all she’s a grown ass woman and second, why is that such a problem?”
“Whenever you talk to her or that Christen girl they give you false hope.”
“What? Again, they’re grown women, not teenagers. What do you mean “false hope”? That doesn’t even make any sense.”
“I’m talking about the fact that you think you’re going to the Olympics.”
“I am going, I already made the roster.”
“If you think I’m going to let you leave the country while I’m still responsible for you, you’re sorely mistaken.”
“You can’t just not let me go! That’s not fair.”
“Life isn’t fair.”
“You can’t stop me from going, it’s my life.”
“While you live here I decide what you can and can’t do.”
“Well, then I just won’t live here then.”
“Pfft, where are you gonna go then?”
“Anywhere is better than here.”
“If you leave now you’re not allowed to come back.”
“I don’t care. Give me my phone.”
She threw my phone on the bed and left, leaving me to grab my duffle bag and get out of here. I packed only things I would need, grabbing my board I started to climb out the window, using the tree by my window I was able to get down safely and remain unseen by the families that were still in the house. I didn’t know where I was going to go and I realized this was probably a really dumb thing to do but I couldn’t give Karen the satisfaction of knowing I had backed out.
I just started walking in a random direction and kept going until I couldn’t anymore. When I took in my surroundings I realized that I had already walked pretty far and that it was getting dark, if I wanted to find at least a semi-safe place to sleep I need to start looking.
I was able to find a good enough bridge to sleep under for the night and settled there. Chris and Alex are so going to kill me.
The next week flew by, I was able to make the bridge a “home” of sorts and I was able to do some chores for the manager of the grocery store I walked to everyday and in exchange he paid me with food. This way I could save my money for Tokyo and for getting more clothes before I left. I knew that he had his suspicions about me being homeless but he never brought it up and by the time it was time for me to go to the airport we had become good friends and I even told him about the team and going to Tokyo. As for showering I was able to convince the owner of one of the gyms in town to let me take showers there without having a membership. I was just wrapping up my last day of chores when the manager of the store, Kevin came out of his office to see me off.
“Hey kid, you leavin’?”
“Yeah, I’ll miss you Kev.”
“I’ll miss you as well kid, good luck in Tokyo. Bring home the gold.”
“Yes sir. I’ll try to visit from time to time.”
“I’ll look forward to seeing you again.”
After we said our goodbyes I grabbed my stuff from the back and started to ride my skateboard to a department store where I could get a suitcase and some more clothes. Then I headed for the airport. It took forever and having to hold a suitcase made it pretty hard to stay balanced but I finally made it and after getting my luggage checked and going through security I just barely made it on time for my flight. I would be flying to Portland first and then from there we fly as a team to Japan. It would be a long couple of days and I’m sure I’m going to be exhausted by the end of all the flying but it’ll all be worth it once we get there.
When I arrived in Portland I was greeted by almost the whole team, a few people’s flights were still just landing or would be arriving shortly. The first people I saw were Chris and Alex, they ran to me and wrapped me up in their arms, smothering me with kisses. I hadn’t told them about anything that happened over the last week, they still thought I was at the group home. It got a little hard when they called me a couple times and there was a lot of commotion on the bridge but I just told them I was out riding around and that it was traffic in the street.
“Hey baby! We missed you so much.”
Christen all but tackled me to the ground as Alex came around to hug me from behind. We landed on the floor and I found myself in a Chrislex sandwich.
“I missed you guys too!” I gigged at their excitement
I made my rounds and was sure to say hi to everyone as they arrived and once everyone was together we were ready to head to our gate for our second flight. We had to wait around for an hour or so before we were able to board, I sat in between Al and Chris. Mal, Rose and Sam sat in front of us and Morgan, Kelley, and Emily behind us and Ali, Ash, Megan, Julie, Tobin, Crystal and Lindsey in the rows directly across. Everyone else filled the remaining rows. This 13 hour and 10 minute flight was going to be long and it would probably get really old fast but I knew my teammates would make it fun and entertaining for at least part of the time.
14 and 1/2 hrs later…
We had finally landed in Tokyo and after almost 15 hours of traveling we got to the hotel and were able to go straight to our rooms. It didn’t surprise me that I had been placed in a room with Christen and Alex, after not seeing each other for a while I was glad to be with them. Everyone was exhausted, so much so that all anyone said to each other as we went to our rooms was “Night.” Or just a grumble as a way to say “See you in the morning.”
I was allowed first dibs on a bed so I picked the one closest to the window.
“Goodnight baby love, see you in the morning.” Christen said from her spot on their bed.
“Goodnight kiddo, sleep well.” Alex yawned
“Goodnight guys.”
They both fell asleep instantly and I was left to wonder how I was going to tell them about everything. I knew I had to tell them the truth soon, I just didn’t know how. On one hand I knew that they would be mad that I had taken off from the group home but I also knew they were going to be even more upset that I didn’t tell them. I knew that if I had they would have come to get me and then they could be arrested for kidnapping or something like that if Ms. Williams found out and decided to report me as missing just to spite me. And yes technically she could do that now and it would be 10x worse since I left the country but she’s not going to risk her reputation by doing that. At least I don’t think she would.
I ran through what I was going to tell them in my head over a dozen times before I was finally able to go to sleep. I knew tomorrow was going to be tough but I just had to hope that I’d be ready to face the music.
//
Hey guys, this isn't my best work and this is probably all over the place but I hope it was still good. Sorry for mistakes.

Chapter 2: Over? Maybe not.
Hey everyone got the newest chapter up!
I have some news to share before we get on to the story. So I started a new job just last week, and this one is way different then my old job so stories may be a bit slow. Speaking of updates, expect an update for this story on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Enjoy!!
A loud repeating knock happened at the Rossi family front door. Rita was setting up the table for lunch when she heard the frantic knocking. She wondered if it was Neth coming to say goodbye before heading off. If it was, he better have some lunch at home.
Rita walked to the door and opened it, horrified at what she saw. Neth was crying, holding his passed out and bleeding Bulbasaur.
“Oh my goodness! What happened?!” Rita asked. Neth handed his mother his starter Pokemon, and he sobbed out everything that happened. From it being to a simple errand run to get Prof. Oak’s Parcel in Viridian to an attack from a little Rattata that did major damage.
The twins came down hearing all the commotion and crying. “Mom, what's going on?” Jodi asked. She and Jack gasped seeing Morganite in a horrible condition. “Holly Chanseys! What happened?”
“Your brother’s Pokemon was just attacked!” Rita shouted, as she was clearing out the coffee table to see the condition of her eldest son’s starter Pokemon. “Jack, Jodi go get the first aid kit for Pokemon!”
“On it!” They replied, saluting their mother as they dashed to the bathroom to grab the first aid kit, and handed it back to their mother who was checking up on Morgan.
The first thing Rita did was she grabbed a yellow-orange spray bottle, a super potion to spray on Morgan to help bring up his HP. A groan escaped Morgan’s mouth, which reassured Rita and Neth that Morgan lived through this attack, this time.
“He’ll live. Don’t worry.” Rita reassured her son. Neth sighed in relief, he wouldn’t know if he would bear losing his starter just before he took on the gym challenge. Rita then opened the first aid kit and took out some disinfecting wipes to wipe the blood off Morgan’s face so she can inspect the state of his injury. She inspected the grass-type a bit more, and saw that the Seed Pokemon didn’t have any other injuries other than his eye.
“How is he?” Neth asked.
“Morgan will be fine.” Rita told him, but a frown was still painted on her face. “But, he suffered an eye injury and will probably be blind in one eye.” She explained.
Neth felt like he was ready to cry again hearing his Pokemon could be disablbed, but he tried to reassure himself that Morgan is alive and things will be okay. He then looked at the table where Prof. Oak’s parcel laid, and sighed. He should’ve given the parcel to the Professor by now, however he’d cried so much he didn’t want the Professor to see him in this state. The trainer decided to have a bit of lunch first, and once he was calm he’d head straight to the lab and hand over the parcel.
Lunch helped Neth a lot, his mother made a simple lunch; a hot noodle soup and his favorite BLT sandwiches. He also didn’t realize how hungry he was as he already had a 2nd serving of soup and a third sandwich. After eating so much till he couldn’t move, Neth decided to relax a bit before taking the parcel to Professor Oak.
Before Neth left to hand the parcel to the professor, he went to check on Morgan. The Bulbasaur was fast asleep, and as much as Neth would want to wake Morgan up or put him back in his Pokeball, he was peacefully sleeping.
“I’ll be back buddy.” Neth whispered. Just as he was about to leave, Neth quickly went to remind his mother about Morgan. “If he wakes up let him know I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
“I will.” Rita promised. Neth smiled and left home and headed for Professor Oak’s lab.
Neth made it to the lab and saw the Professor typing away at his computer. The trainer cleared his throat, which caught the professor’s attention. “Oh Neth, welcome back. What took you so long?” He asked. Professor Oak saw that Neth didn’t have his starter Pokémon with him. “And where’s the Bulbasaur you picked?”
The trainer’s eyes snapped open as the Professor just straight up ahead and asked him. “Uhh…” he had to think fast. Neth wondered if telling Professor Oak that Bulbasaur nearly died and is resting at his house would be a good idea, but as he thought about it, the thought of Professor Oak being mad at him played in his mind and it scared him.
“Well?” Professor Oak asked again.
“Oh!” Neth realized. “Morgan is fine. He’s resting in his Pokeball right now.” He lied, his only available option that wouldn’t get the Professor mad at him. Neth was nervous hoping the Professor would believe him.
“Well,” The professor started. “I’m glad you and your starter have been training well, and it’s just your first day as a trainer.”
Neth nervously chuckled, but felt relieved the professor believed his lie. “Y-yeah.” Quickly, Neth changed the subject and handed the parcel over to Professor Oak. “Oh here is the parcel from Viridian Professor.”
“Ah.” Professor Oak exclaimed. He took the parcel from Neth’s hands and opened it. Inside was what appeared to be a simple Pokeball, only it had an electric type symbol on it. “The custom Pokeball I ordered.”
A door opening loudly rang around the lab and the Professor, Neth, and the lab aids turned to see a young girl breathing heavily like she just ran a marathon.
The girl had long pinkish-red hair, almost the color of strawberries, and a yellow hat with flowers on it and also had green eyes. She wore a multi-colored, frilly top with short sleeves, green shorts, long white stockings with hearts at the top, and green shoes. She had a pink star-shaped shoulder bag with buttons that showed Clefairy, Jigglypuff and a Raichu on it.
“Sorry. I’m. Late.” The girl paused between breaths.
Neth recognized the girl and smiled. “Cassia!” He exclaimed.
Cassia looked up and saw Neth smiling at him. A smile appeared on the young girl’s face as she quickly ran and tackled Neth yelling his name, “NETH!” The latter felt the air give out from him as he crashed to the floor, which is probably much better then crashing into a shelf or Professor Oak’s desk.
“Oh it’s so good to see you! It’s been so long!” Cassia beamed.
Neth frowned. “Cass, I saw you two weeks ago at your place for lunch.” He reminded her.
Cassia let go of her friend and helped him up. “Sorry, but it felt so long for me!” She replied.
Neth chuckled, used to his friend’s peppy personality. “You always say that.” He said, rolling his eyes.
“Ah so you must be the third trainer I was expecting.” Professor Oak said.
“Yep! I’m Cassia Verdi!” She introduced. “Sorry I’m late. I overslept.”
Professor Oak chuckled. “That’s alright. It’s happened once or twice.” He reassured her. “However there is one Pokémon left. I hope you weren’t expecting Bulbasaur or Charmander to have been taken.”
The young girl’s face dropped when she heard her favorite Pokemon, Bulbasaur was already taken. “Aww.” She sighed.
“But,” Professor Oak started, which made Cassia look up. “I’m sure you and Squirtle might make a good team.” He then went over to the table and released Squirtle from her Pokeball.
Squirtle gave a stretch and yawned coming out from her Pokeball. She stretched too far and she fell on the floor. Cassia gasped, and blushed seeing the Tiny Turtle Pokemon and picked the Squirtle up from the floor and hugged her.
“Aww you're so cute!” Cassia beamed.
Squirtle looked up at the young girl and smiled seeing how pretty she was. “Is this my trainer?” She thought to herself. “T-thanks.” Squirtle replied.
“Aww. You’re welcome.” Cassia then looked up at Professor Oak. “So is Squirtle mine?”
Professor Oak nodded. “Yep. Unless you want to wait until next year for the starter you truly want.” He reminded her.
“I’ll take her!” Cassia beamed, her eyes sparkling with joy.
The Professor chuckled. “Alright. Let me get you and Neth’s Pokedex and Pokeballs and you're all set on your journey.” He told them.
“Thanks Professor!” Neth and Cassia replied at the same time. The Professor smiled and went over to his desk to get the items he mentioned as Neth and Cassia discussed what Cassia should name her Squirtle.
“So what are you going to name her?” Neth asked.
Cassia smiled as she already knew what to name her Squirtle. “I already have a name in mind. I kept a list.” She mentioned. “Since you're a female Squirtle, how do you like the name Shelby?” She asked.
“Squirtle tilted her head at her name. “Shelby?” She asked. Giving a nod she smiled, liking the sound of her new name. “It’s got a good ring to it!”
“So you like it?”
“Love it!”
Cassia squealed as she hugged her Squirtle tighter. Professor Oak turned around and handed two Pokedex to the trainers as well as their Pokeballs. “Here you two go! I wish you luck on your journey!” Professor Oak said.
Neth and Cassia thanked the Professor once again and left the laboratory. Once they left, Neth made a quick run to his house to go check up on Morgan. “Forgot something at home?” Cassia asked.
“No, I’m forgetting someone.” He replied.
Meanwhile, Morgan was awake and was now staring at himself in the mirror looking at his new injury. His right eye had a massive scar and the iris color had faded leaving the Bulbasaur with two different eye colors.
Morgan sighed seeing Neth was gone and worried his trainer left him. “Maybe Charmander was right. Maybe I am not strong enough.” Morgan thought to himself. The grass-type Pokemon heard the door open and saw his trainer come in. Morgan’s eyes widen seeing Neth.
It was silent between the Pokemon and his trainer. One of them had to say something, and Neth was the first one to speak. “H-how are you feeling?” He asked.
Morgan closed his eyes and turned away from Neth not saying anything.
“Are you mad at me?” Neth asked again.
Morgan opened his eyes looking down and shook his head slowly.
“I’m sorry I left you for a while. I just had to give Professor Oak the parcel we went to get.” He explained. “I was coming back for you.”
“You were?” Morgan asked, slowly walking towards his trainer.
Neth nodded. “I wasn’t going to leave you behind if that’s what you were thinking.” He told him. Once Morgan got closer he pet Morgan’s head, comforting the Seed Pokémon.
The Seed Pokémon smiled and let his trainer pet him some more. He didn’t know why, but Neth’s comfort made him feel a lot better than he did when he woke up.
“Thanks.” Morgan said, and he let out a chuckle. “It’s funny. Before starting my journey I was told that I wasn’t going to be the best, and that I’ll just be holding my trainer and my team back.” He explained.
Neth scoffed. “Who told you that?”
Morgan opened his mouth and wanted to say who it was, but stayed quiet. “It’s no one.” He replied.
Neth knew not to push Morgan too much after what he had been through. “Well, if you ever want to talk about it I’m here for ya.” He told him.
This made the Bulbasaur’s eyes widen. At this point he wanted to cry on his trainer’s lap that someone trusts him to share his feelings with. “Okay.” Morgan whispered back.
The trainer smiled and after saying goodbye to his family again and finally after a bit of a bump into the road their journey could start.
“Ready Neth?” Cassia asked, which surprised Neth and Morgan.
“Please don’t do that.” Neth begged, giving a sigh.
Cassia giggled till her eyes went towards Morgan. She gasped seeing the Seed Pokemon’s injury. “Neth, what happened to your Bulbasaur?” Cassia asked.
Morgan felt hurt seeing someone react to his injury and stepped back hiding behind Neth’s legs. Shelby saw her old friend and went close to him. “B-Bulbasaur?” Squirtle spoke up. Morgan recognized his old friend and slowly came up to her.
“It’s Morgan now.” He let out, quietly.
“Oh.” Shelby realized. “For me it’s Shelby.” She replied quietly as well. Morgan slowly nodded even though he was excited about his friend getting a nickname.
Neth and Cassia were now walking on Route 1 as Neth explained about Morgan getting attacked by a Rattata, which is why the Bulbasaur had the eye injury.
“Neth. I’m so sorry that happened to you.” Cassia said. “Now I feel bad for reacting to-“ the girl was cut off by Neth.
“Cass it’s okay.” Neth reassured her. “Morgan is fine.” He told her as he looked down at his Bulbasaur, who gave him a warm smile in reply.
“Yeah, but still…”Cassia replied.
Morgan then pressed his forehead to Cassia’s leg, grabbing her attention. “It’s alright.” Morgan started. Cassia gave a small smile, feeling calmer.
“Thanks.” Cassia replied. Morgan smiled and gave a nod. The group continued walking till Morgan saw a purple blur running across the grass. The grass-type Pokemon paused, as he recognized the purple blur as a Rattata. The Rattata attack played in his mind again, however not wanting to be scared anymore, Morgan started to run and tackled the Rattata to the ground.
To the grass-type’s surprise, it was a Rattata but something felt off about this particular one. This Rattata seemed a bit smaller than the one that attacked him. “W-wait!” Rattata yelled. “D-don’t hurt me please!”
Morgan quickly got off of Rattata, as Neth, Cassia and Shelby came by to see what was going on. “Morgan, are you okay?” Neth asked.
“I am.” Morgan replied. The group then turned to the Rattata, who was shaking like a leaf. It was at this point, the grass type Pokemon realized this wasn’t the same Rattata.
“I-I saw the attack.” The Rattata stuttered. “M-my older brother, he’s the one who attacked you! I-I couldn’t do anything, a-and I’m sorry!” He apologized. “P-Please don’t hurt me.”
Neth kneeled down to look at the Rattata. “What happened to your brother?” He asked.
“Captured! Another trainer saw his skills and caught him.” Rattata revealed. Neth and Morgan both sighed. Though Neth was a tad bit worried as most trainers own a Rattata or Pidgey, and any of those Rattata owned by a trainer could be the Rattata that almost killed Morgan.
“Well glad we may never see that Rattata again!” Cassia exclaimed.
“Rattata?” Morgan spoke up. “I’m sorry for attacking you like that, and I was wondering if you would like to join the team?” He asked.
The eyes on the normal-type Pokemon widened. “Really? You’d want me on?” He asked.
Neth smiled. “Of course!” He replied.
Rattata then jumped into Neth’s arms, which surprised the latter. “Thank you! Thank you!” He repeated gleefully.
The trainer chuckled and petted his new team member. “So, what to name you?” He wondered. Looking at Rattata he thought what name could fit him. One name then hit him, and he had to ask Rattata. “Do you like the name Jasper?” He asked.
Rattata chuckled. “Jasper sounds cool! Makes me sound tough!” He exclaimed.
“Alright, welcome to the team Jasper!”

Five times.
Five times she had woken up that night, thinking she was with Cyrus. Five times, she'd been screaming for him to help her. Five times, he'd reassured her she's in the hospital and that Cyrus is in a jail cell, where he'll be for the rest of his (very short if he had anything to say about it) life. Five times, she had felt completely helpless. Five times, she'd thought she was back in that little room above Jake's, with Cyrus. Five times, Jason had considered killing the ponytail clad mobster.
Five more times, they'd kissed.
That was something they'd have to talk about later. When she'd recovered from this, when they'd had time to actually think as opposed to just reacting and acting on whatever impulse they felt.
All night, he'd thought of his life's romances. The main ones were with Robin, Elizabeth and Sam.
Robin, who'd been his first love as Jason Morgan. It was still hard for him to fully forgive her for revealing that secret about Michael- no matter how much time passes, he couldn't help but be curious about what would've happened if they'd ended up keeping it secret for at least another year. There was the unlikely possibilty they would've made it, lasted through everything, but he doubts it. After all, as Carly once put it, if she wanted something, Robin would run to Europe as opposed to just telling him. It was exhausting.
There was then the possibility that him and Carly would've gotten together, raised Michael. Been a happy family. A tad bit dysfunctional, but happy.
Then there was his romance with Elizabeth. That one was, by far, one of the most bizarre things, now that he thinks about it. They were so different; it was doomed from the start. As much as he hates to admit it, Carly was right about that one. There was no chance of that relationship lasting.
And of course, there was him and Sam. Their end, their downfall, had been the same one he'd had with Elizabeth: she wasn't able to deal with the mob. But if he was being honest with himself, he knew that it was more than that; it was because, as Sam had said repeatedly, "I don't know if your first allegiance is to Carly or to me." To be honest, neither did he.
Sam would always question his relationship with Carly. It caused a fight everytime she brought it up, and when Sam had learned of their past, her head had nearly flew off her body. She hadn't exactly taken the news that her lover's best friend was also someone who he'd been in love with at one point well. The fact she'd been in love with him too didn't help matters.
As she'd tactfully put it one argument, "You'd die for her in less than a second and you're always going to her defenses! If anyone dares to speak a word against her, suddenly she's a fucking saint who's never wronged a soul! Carly, the same woman who wrecks your life at every chance and ruins all of your relationships! This is the same woman who you drop everything to help time and time again, even me! Carly doesn't feel bad when she comes in here, constantly, with all of her problems and needs you to solve all of them! Whatever the fuck it is you're feeling for her isn't friendly or familial."
That wasn't a fun fight for them to have whenever she'd brought it up. It always ended up with both of them fighting dirty before they'd inevitably forgive each other. It pissed him off that she'd question what he felt for Carly, that she'd try and make him admit something he didn't feel. She felt mad because of jealousy, feeling jealous of how much he cared for the blonde. Hell, they'd broken up because of his loyalty to her.
There was one common denominator in all of his breakups: Carly.
Whether or not he'd realized it at the time, she'd been the reason for all of them. Robin and him because he agreed to be Michael's father as a favor to Carly, Elizabeth and him because she didn't like the mob or his best friend, Sam because she didn't like his allegiance being to Carly.
He's surprisingly okay with that, considering everything. Shockingly, he's not pissed at her for, as Sam said, "Ruining all of his relationships every chance she got." The reason is because he knows she didn't mean to. She may have hated some of them, but so long as they didn't want to punch her, she remained civil. Truly, she just wanted him to be happy. Because he knew that, he's fine with the fact that she had caused their destruction.
All night, he'd stayed up thinking of his memories with Carly, trying to put her in a box in his brain. As usual, she refused. Even in his brain, she was too stubborn for her own good. Her name kept jumping from box to box until finally he gave up trying to categorize her and simply indulged in a bit of nostalgia.
Flashback
It was a cold day outside, even for New York's winter. She'd finally gotten around to letting the boys play in the snow and insisted he join.
"Jason, make a snowball with me!" Morgan had yelled, still too young to really make one properly.
Of course, he'd obliged his best friend's youngest and gotten in a snowball fight with Michael, who had a surprising knack for snowball making.
"I give up!" Michael shouted when Morgan flat out tackled him, covering him with snow in the process and earning a loud laugh out of both Carly and Jason. "Morgan, get off of me! I'm cold!"
"We won, right, Jason?" Morgan asks, smiling widely.
"Yes we did, buddy. Which means, we get a prize. What are you thinking?"
"Hot cocoa!"
"I want hot cocoa too!" Michael pouts, getting out of the snow.
"Morgan, how about we get you a new toy sometime this week? We'll go to the toy store and get you whatever toy you want," Jason bargains.
"Do I get hot cocoa too?"
Laughing, Carly says, "Yes, Morgan, you and your brother get hot cocoa. Why don't you go inside and have Leticia get you some?"
"Yay!" Morgan claps, going in the house with a soaked Michael following him.
"Can we come back out here after our hot cocoa and sled?"
"Sure," Jason answers before Carly, getting a smile out of a shivering Michael. "But you two have to be warned up first and the sun can't be setting in ten minutes."
"Deal." Michael agrees, heading inside. "Morgan! Let's sit by the fire!"
Carly playfully shoves his shoulder, "Now they're going to get freezing cold all over again. Thanks."
"Hey, the kid lost a bet. I'm keeping him from getting even more emotionally wounded. Besides, the sun'll set before they're warmed up."
"Mhm. This has nothing to do with the fact you feel bad for not seeing them when they're with Sonny." Bringing up his name darkens the mood, but he nods his agreement.
"It's better for them if I don't see Sonny right now. I know they know something's up with us and I don't want them picking a side-"
"Too late. My boys are always on your side."
"He's their father."
"You're their Jason," Carly counters, smiling.
"Big difference there, Carly."
"No, not really. Look, Sonny's being a pissy bitch because he knows you're right and he knows that I'm on your side. My boys are too, you know that. They know he fucked up and they know that you didn't. So while he's having a tantrum, you're helping me raise them like you always do."
"They're you two's kids, I don't want them getting caught up in all of this."
"To hell with my ex husband, Jason! He's throwing a tantrum and ignoring them. He doesn't give a damn about what they think about it either; he's just mad. They may be his kids, but you clearly care more about them," the blonde argues.
"He's upset because of me! He's ignoring the boys because of me, Carly! Don't you get that?" Jason exclaims, clearly battling himself mentally. "I caused it."
"You didn't do anything wrong!"
"That's not how Sonny sees it!"
"It's how I see it. It's how the boys see it. It's how anyone with half a braincell sees it, Jason! Don't you get it? We're on your side here, no matter what, because you're always, always on ours."
New flashback
"Give me my divorce, Jax!" Carly insists, begging him to sign the papers while Jason simply glares at her soon-to-be ex-husband.
"No!"
"Just give her the divorce. Hasn't she suffered enough?" Jason inquires, breaking his silence and putting an arm around his friend.
"Why, so you two can run off together? No," Jax answers defiantly. "What the hell are you doing here anyways?"
"To make sure you don't intimidate my friend into staying in a marriage she doesn't want to."
"I can't believe this," the Australian chuckles madly, "you really have him here for intimidation? What's Jason gonna go, shoot me? Good luck with that, buddy. Why don't you go leave my marriage and my family alone?'
"I am his family," Carly says, glaring at him. "And he's mine. Always has been, always will be. You knew that when we got married, that my first allegiance is to my children and Jason. If I were you, I'd suggest that you shut up and sign the damn papers."
"And give up my family?"
"Josslyn will always be your daughter and I like our custody agreement for her. She'll always be your family. But as for me and my boys, we're not," the blonde tells him, encouraged by the fact that Jax genuinely looks a little frightened.
"Fine," he relents, signing the papers and storming out of the office.
She feels a tear go down her face and Jason wipe it away. "Why are you crying? Isn't this what you wanted, a divorce from him?"
A chuckle escapes her, "Of course it is. But now, it's really over. I wasn't expecting to feel like this. I was expecting to feel happy or something, and I do, I feel relief, but now I also feel scared. I'm not even sure where I'll be living."
"You guys can stay at the penthouse, if you want. There's plenty of room and besides, it's quiet since Sam moved out." Jason offers and she smiles widely at him.
"Yet another thing I'll never be able to repay you for," Carly smiles, hugging him. "You sure you can handle two kids, a rebellious Michael, and me all at the same time?"
"Yeah," he answers quickly. "You're family."
"Thank you, for being there for me and them through everything that's happened. I love you."
"I love you too."
"It's nice to hear it."
"Yeah yeah, I think you've got to go tell the boys they're coming to the penthouse for a little while."
"They're going to be over the moon about this! Maybe Michael will finally stop being an angsty teenager." Carly squeals excitedly.
"I doubt living with me will change that," he says. "You sure Sonny's going to be okay with this?"
"I couldn't give less shit's if I tried about what Sonny thinks if I'm being completely honest with you, Jason, so don't you dare tell me that you're revoking your offer," she threatens loosely, knowing he'd never do that to her, to their family.
"Never. Just saying, it might be better if you're on good terms with your ex husband-"
"Well, I don't care. The boys, Josslyn, and I are going to be fine, living with you."
Back to reality
"Jason! Help!" She calls again, waking him from his memories and snapping him back into action.
"Carly, you're at GH. Cyrus is in police custody. I'm here, you're safe," he promises. "Nothing's going to happen to you. I promise."
It slowly sinks in and she breathes normally again before asking, "How's work stuff? Did Florence get home safe?"
"Yes."
"Shouldn't you be at the office or something?"
"No, I'm supposed to be here, making sure you're healing properly and nagging you," he quips, getting a smile. "Besides, nothing interesting is going on today. You're what's important here, not the business."
"The business is important too," she argues.
"Not as important as you."
A smile breaks out on her face at that, "Thanks."
"I'd say anytime, but I'm afraid it'd become a habit."
"When did you become so funny?"
"I've always been funny, you just haven't been paying attention."
"Sure. You're always so serious, walking around so stoic and never showing emotion until you're at your breaking point. Or think you're gonna die. It's sad, really. I mean, I love you and I know you love me, but it's sad you feel like you can't show emotion."
"I show emotion."
"Mhm."
"Sometimes. When I feel like it."
"Sure."
"You see my emotions more than anyone else."
"I know," Carly smiles. "That's just because I'm an amazing person and friend."
"You're also a tad bit overconfident."
"She wasn't last night," a sinister voice says from behind them. A voice belonging to Cyrus Renault.

Second Chance (Spencer Reid x Reader)
Requested: No
Trigger warnings: Graphic descriptions of violence and mild language.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
Beginning(n): late 12c., "time when something begins;" c. 1200, "initial stage or first part," verbal noun from begin. Meaning "act of starting something" is from early 13c.
Beginning. From where I stand right now, the beginning seems so much more tame than what I know now. Spencer would usually tell me some sort of fact associated with the ‘beginning of the world’ if he were here right now. But he’s not. If only foresight were real. And I had it’s full power of never saying what I did. Never pushing him away. But I guess hindsight isn’t 20-20. And words can’t be taken back.
~~~
April 12. Seems like a regular day to anybody. But not to me. Not to Spencer. He and I have been in what feels like an endless storm of arguments since Christmas. He and I had always been each other’s rock. Our anchor with how stressful our jobs are. I was there for him when the cases got rough and he was my shoulder when a case got way too personal. We just fit. That is, if you didn’t count the small little quirks in our relationship. One of which being my tendency to be like Morgan and jump into situations without too much thinking.
I won’t lie; he absolutely hates it. Case in point:
“Spence, come on, I can walk on my own now. The swelling’s gone down.” I complained, groaning at my tall and lanky boyfriend who was currently forbidding me from standing up from bed. So, maybe I might have gotten my ankles fractured and twisted by an unsub when I had tackled him prematurely and he and I went tumbling into traffic. No biggie. Other than the fact that one of the BAU’s SUVs ran over my ankles. Hotch didn’t see me. I don’t blame him.
Spencer rolled his eyes as he pushed me back into bed as I tried for the fifth time that morning to get up to go to the damn kitchen and eat something. “The doctor said you need three weeks of bed rest. It hasn’t even been two yet.” Spencer reasoned, tucking me into the covers of our shared bed before I could protest.
“Spence, I’ll be fine going to the kitchen. It’s not that far away.” I tried again, sitting up from the bed and pulling covers off of my body. “I promise I’m fine.”
Spencer shook his head and gripped my hands, trying to lay me back down. “Actually there is plenty of space between here and the kitchen, Y/N. The inflammation and swelling process is to remove the damaged tissue from your fractures. Your ankles can’t heal until you let the swelling complete its course. This wouldn’t have happened if you had just waited for me.” Spencer sighed again, the end of his words having a bit of a jabbing tone that sparked a sharp ache in my chest.
“What?” I asked, with half a laugh and half disbelief. “Are you serious right now? After all the things you’ve done without orders? Don’t make me list them, Spencer.” I hissed, half pissed that Spencer would even bring this part up. Sure, Hotch had given me a few weeks off due to my injuries, and I had gotten a case of major cabin fever since that included bed rest from the doctor. But that seemed to be forgiven by everyone. I still got calls from Penelope every few days to check on me for the rest of the team. But I guess this was still an issue. Even after we already had this argument.
Spencer grunted as he stood up straight again, seemingly towering over me in all of his 6’1 glory. He may be making me mad right now, but he was still my tree. And I his squirrel. If that makes any sense.
“Don’t start this please, I don’t want to argue with you on this.” Spencer tries, pinching the bridge of his nose.
I gritted my teeth and scoffed. “Then why bring it up? Especially the way you did? Why, Spencer? Why? Cause I’m itching to know.” I instigate. Not the best move on my part. As Spencer’s eyes flickered with anger. It was clear he really didn’t want to have this conversation right now. But he should’ve thought about that.
“Y/N do you really have to do this? Can’t we have one day without an argument?” Spencer huffed, running a tired hand through his hair. I roll my eyes in anger and I plant my feet against the hardwood.
“You started this Spencer, not me. I just want to know what the hell you meant by what you said.” I retort, trying to reel back my anger. This argument wasn’t going anywhere. We hadn’t been communicating. It didn’t take a profiler to see that. And it seemed all that miscommunication was coming back to bite us in the ass.
“You want to know what I meant? I’m tired of you throwing yourself into danger like that. Morgan does it, yes, but that does not mean that you should follow in his footsteps, Y/N.” Spencer says in a half accusatory tone and half calm. How the hell does he stay so calm when we argue? Even when I know he’s angry?
“Oh, so Morgan does it better than me or something? If it’s so bad, Spencer, then go scold Morgan too why don’t you? Maybe you’ll actually get somewhere with him.” I jab at Spencer, instantly regretting my comment.
Spencer is grunting with anger as he tries to formulate a response. “This isn’t getting us anywhere, Y/N! All these arguments? They never end well for either of us! If you hadn’t been so reckless maybe we wouldn’t have to be having this argument!” Spencer finally quips back at me. I widen my eyes and I furrow my eyebrows after a few moments. I open my mouth to respond before Spencer leaves the room, shutting the door a bit harshly as he does.
I scowl and scoff as I unwillingly roll back over into bed. I was so done with this constant arguing. What had happened to that spark we used to have? That perfect routine where everything just fit?
After a few minutes of sulking in my own anger I sigh. This was ridiculous wasn’t it? Sure. But I wasn’t ready to apologize yet. At least Spencer has another day or so before he’s gotta get back to the BAU. I can apologize to him before bed tonight. Can’t go to bed angry.
I couldn’t help but remember a poem that Spencer had read to me previously. It was on the tip of my tongue. I remember he had a collection of them that he liked to leave for me whenever he got home before me. Or if I left before him and I was expected to come home early. Especially when he had to work and I didn’t. It was just something we enjoyed. Well… used to anyway.
The poem was Love’s Philosophy by Percy Bysshe Shelly, I think. Yeah. That was it. I can only remember part of it though.
The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?
What happened between us? What did we do to get this far away from our paradise that we had made together?
I sighed as I recalled the poem, shifting through my nightstand and finding the small notebook paper that he had left for me on my pillow months prior. Was this relationship even salvageable? Would we ever get back to this point of love between us? Or would this rift grow ever larger, and keep us apart?
I let out a tired exhale and began to slowly get up from my prison. I hissed as my ankles began to wobble from the sudden weight. I gripped the nightstand for dear-life before I found my balance, and I started to wander into the apartment I’d been kept from for the past week and a half.
I wobble my wounded and swollen feet into the living room, gripping onto everything that I could to get there safely and without a fall. Knowing Spencer’s state of mind it would probably feed into another argument. But though all odds were against me, I made it to the couch. I plopped down and picked up a forgotten book that laid next to me. La Divina Commedia. Why am I not surprised Spencer’s been reading that?
Before I could pick the book up and even attempt to read it in it’s natural text, I hear the plop of a ready back by the front door. I sigh. Of course there’s a case. A case while I’m down for the count. My fault, I guess.
I sigh and put the book down. “So you’re leaving?” I question, trying to sound at least remotely sincere.
Spencer doesn’t even acknowledge that I’d even spoken, too busy with his bag. At least he had the manners to respond. “Yes, I am. Three women were abducted in Oklahoma. It will probably take a few days.” He says, his usual tone of sorrow for having to leave absent from his voice. Almost like he was thankful for this break from me.
I bite my lip nervously and fight the urge to sigh yet again. “Well… Tell the team I said good luck.” I say as audibly as I can without giving away the hurt pounding in my chest.
Spencer at least nods before he grabs his now full bag and exits the apartment. Not even looking at me once.
Kidnapping case, huh?
~~~
Spencer’s POV
Spencer can’t help but notice the seething anger he was emitting as he walked into the bullpen to set his stuff down before the case briefing. Morgan and Prentiss both gave him looks as he set his bag down and tried to gather what he would need for the case at hand.
“Hey kid, something… going on at home? I can feel your anger from over there.” Morgan prompts, pulling Spencer into a half head lock with his arm. Spencer sighed and pulled away from Morgan’s attempt at communicating.
“It’s fine, Morgan. Really. Did you know that couples find themselves fighting about household issues about seven times each month? A survey of 2,000 Americans, commissioned by a furniture company, found couples wind up averaging about 72 spats each year over home improvement particulars.” Spencer starts to ramble, unable to hold back his concern for the topic. At least his attitude and overall tone wasn’t deteriorating from where it had been before he left.
Morgan nodded, suddenly understanding where the conversation was leading. “Ah, so you and Y/N having some trouble in paradise? She getting cabin fever yet?” Morgan teased, poking Spencer in the shoulder.
“I don’t believe there’s ever really paradise in a relationship. A study proposed by the company Eharmony suggested that although 64% of couples are happy in their relationships, that other 36% isn’t. But that number continuously changes. And relationships end everyday over small things.” Spencer rambled again, his hands being shoved into his pockets as Morgan began leading him into their meeting room.
Morgan shook his head. “Man you got it bad. Just try to make it up for her when you get home, alright? You don’t wanna go to bed angry, you know what I’m saying?” Morgan suggests. Spencer sighed and went silent as they pushed through the glass doors and took their seats at the round table to let JJ announce their newest case.
"We've got three missing women in Oklahoma city, all from low socioeconomic classes. Danielle Jones, Katie Hurtz, and Cassidy Weirton were all last seen by their boyfriends at a party they all attended yesterday. Their cars were found dumped into the nearby river with signs of chains digging into the paint. Almost as if they were pulled into the river." JJ explains, turning to face the team.
Prentiss raises an eyebrow. "Don't they all look a little like Y/N? You know, h/c, e/c, s/c?" She brings up, slightly catching Spencer’s attention. Spencer looks up and looks at the photos currently on the screen. Emily was right. They did all look like her.
Morgan nods in agreement. "Yeah, they kinda do. I'm kinda glad you ran over her ankle, Hotch. She might've had to deal with Mr. overprotective here if you didn't." He teased, gesturing his thumb to Spencer.
Spencer raises an eyebrow and looks at Morgan in a bit of shock. "I don't follow." He asks. Prentiss shook her head and gave Spencer a knowing look.
"Come on, Spencer. We all heard it from Y/N herself when Garcia called her. You're giving her cabin fever by keeping her in one room all day long." Emily points out, teasing him a bit along with Morgan.
"Why is this important? She needs approximately 3 weeks of bedrest as determined by her doctor. I'm just trying to make sure she heals right." Spencer expressed in annoyance. Although Prentiss was definitely right. Y/N had been showing him signs of just wanting to move from the bed to the couch so that she wasn't bored from her surroundings. But she still shouldn't be moved all that much. Especially since she didn't have any sort of cast or boot to help with the healing. Only a brace.
"She isn't coming with us on this case, so there isn't any reason I need to worry, is there?" Spencer reasoned, growing tired of the teasing.
Morgan raised his hands up from where they had been resting on the table. "I guess not. But kid, seriously. Take it from a man who knows: don't fight her on this." Morgan encourages.
Maybe he was right, Spencer thought.
~~~
Three days had passed since Spencer had gone on the new case. I was absolutely and completely, lonely. And it was almost suffocating.
Thankfully Spencer had left me an apartment full of food, so I needn't worry about having to cook or, god forbid, have to go grocery shopping in my condition.
But I was tired of the four bare walls of the main area of my and Spencer’s apartment. I could only bear them for so much longer before I completely combusted from boredom and fourth stage cabin fever. So… I went out to go get a few books. What? We had crutches from the hospital. And taxis exist. So I was fine.
Besides, I knew Spencer hadn't read books from this author yet. And I was partially hoping that he would take them as mostly an apology gift and the rest just a gift. I wanted to try and get back into the swing of our relationship. Try and just maybe get back into a somewhat normal routine. Even if I was incapacitated.
I clobbered around the bookstore, my more injured foot swinging as I used the lesser to get around. There were so many books I just didn't know which ones to get for Spencer and just how many I wanted to get for myself.
One I picked up reminded me of a case that had come across my desk. The case was actually in Quantico. An unsub was kidnapping women around the ages of 20 to 35 and the bodies were found dumped into the river, raped and mutilated. But there were only two victims at the moment, and the period between them was months, so it hadn't seemed like one to worry about. I heard the unsub left a letter to each of the families of the victims. Almost taunting them. Weird how you can make connections like that in real life compared to your second one.
But eventually I hobbled again over ro the counter and heaved about 5 books up into the clerk's view. The clerk looked me up and down and smirked.
"Rough day?" He asked, beginning to scan the books into the system. I groaned and chuckled slightly.
"More like rough life." I reply, heaving myself back onto the harsh arm rests of the crutches. The man nods in understanding.
"Very true. But hey, I'm sure you'll get off of those soon and get back to your normal routine." He says, telling me my cost.
I fumble through my wallet and pull out my credit card. I hand it to the clerk. The clerk then takes it and swipes it for me.
"Do you want to sign up for our rewards program? You get a book free with every purchase." The clerk prompted. I raised an eyebrow at the sudden offer. I'd never gotten this offer when I'd gone here before. Was it new?
"Not today, sorry." I begin, taking my credit card back from the clerk and beginning to put it back into my wallet.
"It's something new we're trying. Get more customers interested in reading and stuff. And… I kinda promised my boss I'd get at least one my next shift. I'd really appreciate it." The clerk prompts again. I sigh. Would it really be that bad? Spencer might appreciate it. Getting more books for only a quarter of the price? He'd like that. Hell, I'd enjoy that. Why not?
I shrug and I nod. "Alright, alright. You need my number and stuff?" I ask. The clerk nods.
"Uh huh. Just name, number and address." The clerk says, beginning to type into the computer at the counter.
"Y/N L/N, 555-555-5555, (insert random Quantico apartment address here)." I list, piling the books up and putting them into a bag the clerk handed me.
As the clerk finished up I smiled at him. "Have a good day sir." I say as I begin my hobble back towards the door.
"You too."
~~~
I wobble on the crutches as I clop back to Spencer and I's shared apartment. I sigh as I begin to fumble with my keys. My phone drops out of my pocket as I do.
I grumble and lean over to grab it. I turn it on out of curiosity. No new messages. Nothing. Not a single 'How are you?' text. Kinda pissed me off a bit.
But instead I sigh and just type a quick, and small text.
Y/N - Hey, can we talk when you get home? I wanna make it up to you. Please.
I sigh and shove it back into my pocket. I'll deal with it later, I think.
I finally unlock my door and shove it open. When I do though, I find a letter shoved under the door. Couldn't they have put it in the mailbox?
I pick it up and shut the door behind me. I hobbled over to the dining room table and put the bag of books down, along with the crutches as I began to investigate the letter.
I don't even get the chance to fully open the letter before I'm grabbed from behind and a cloth is shoved into my mouth. Chloroform.
I try instantly to cough and spit the rag out, but by the time I do, I've already begun to breathe the gas in, and my vision began to grow cloudy and spotty.
The only thing I hear as the lights begin to fade and my capture begins to drag me away is "Good… go to sleep now."
~~~
Spencer sighed as he sat on the plane in mid thought. They thankfully were able to capture the unsub and bring him to justice before he could kill any of the girls. But something had struck him as they had finished up the case. Y/N had texted him, wanting to talk. He'd tried to reach her that night by calling her cell, but it went straight to voicemail. He didn't think much of it. She was probably sleeping. As she should be.
But still. She was right. They both needed to resolve this. Nothing was going to improve if they didn't try.
"Hey kid, whatcha thinking?" Morgan asks, taking a seat next to Spencer as the plane got ready to land.
"I think I'm going to talk with her tonight. See if we can come to an understanding. A compromise maybe." He sighed, fumbling with his fingers.
Derek grinned. "Alright, Spencer, my man!" He exclaims, lightly hitting his shoulder. "Good. I'm proud of you, kid." He says, prompting Spencer to smile.
"Thank you Morgan. I just think we'll find a better normal is all." He agrees, unable to focus on the current case report he'd just written.
Prentiss wanders over and takes a seat next to Spencer as well. "I'm glad you've decided to tame the beast, Spencer." She teases.
Rossi's ears perk up at the conversation. "Are we talking about Y/N here? Cause she's untameable." He expresses, pulling a smile onto Spencer’s face.
She really was untameable, Spencer thought. Maybe that was a good thing.
~~~
Spencer stretched his arms as he walked to his apartment. After the long and hard case they had, he just wanted to hold you and pull you close. Those girls looking so similar to you had messed with his head.
Spencer exited the elevator, ready bag in hand as he turned to head down the hallway with his and Y/N's shared apartment. When he finally stopped, he noticed the door was ajar. Weird. Y/N always had a quirk about insisting he close the door behind him whenever he entered or exited a room. So why would she leave the door open?
Spencer cautiously entered the room and saw the lights all completely turned off. Maybe she was in bed, he thought.
He flicked on the lights and noticed a bag of books on the table, and a half opened envelope laying there as well next to forgotten crutches. Spencer rolled his eyes as he noticed the books were newly bought, guess Y/N couldn't stay in bed while he was gone.
That's when he noticed the letter again. He opened it up and began to read the complete horror that met his eyes.
Hello.
I'm glad we share an interest in books. I've always liked reading. Did you know that? I've also loved (h/c) haired girls. All my life. When your (e/c) eyes met mine, I knew you had to be mine. So, please don't fight this. All I want is for us to be together. Forever.
I promise I’m not like him. Your boyfriend. I won't leave you alone on weekends with fractured feet.
Just obey me, and you'll be happy. I promise.
Love, Z.H.E
Spencer felt tears building up in his eyes. This man, this--this Z.H.E had taken Y/N. Taken his girlfriend at her weakest. And he wasn't here to protect her.
Spencer thrust the letter onto the table and dropped to his knees. You were gone. Out of his reach. And there was no telling how long you'd been gone. How long you've been in this unsub's hands. So there was no way to know if you had any chance.
Spencer clutched at his shirt and tie as he began to quicken his breathing and his heart began to pound faster. He had to do something. Anything.
Then he felt his phone vibrate. That was it. He had proof. This wasn't Y/N's handwriting. They had a case. They just had to get permission.
Spencer shook his head. Fuck the permission. He was going to find Y/N and put the bastard who took her in prison. They didn't have much time, but he was going to find her. Dead or alive.
Spencer pulled his phone out and immediately began dialing Morgan’s number, tears still streaming down his cheek.
He was going to find you. He had to.
After a few rings, Morgan finally answered the phone. "Reid? Kid it's like 11 o'clock at night. What's wro-" Morgan groans.
Spencer immediately cut him off. "Morgan, Y/N's not here. Some-someone took her. Th-they left a-a note and u-uh… they signed it Z...Z.H.E." Spencer rambled and stuttered, his voice almost inaudible from his tears and his voice growing faster with his nerves.
Morgan’s response was to be expected. "Wait, what? You serious kid? Hold on, I'll call Hotch. Bring anything Y/N might've had with her the day she got taken with you back to the BAU. We'll meet you there." Derek ushered, the sound of a TV being shut off in the background.
Spencer tried to calm his breathing, but it only got faster and harder to control. "O-okay… got it." Was his only response as he hung up the phone and pulled out a pair of gloves from his pocket and began searching the apartment for any sort of sealing bag he could put the letter in for evidence. If the bastard wasn't wearing gloves, they needed to be able to find fingerprints. Not just his own.
Once he found something, he slid the envelope and the letter into the bag and sealed it shut. Once he had it, he grabbed the bag and the bag of books and began to carry them out the door.
~~~
I groaned as I lifted my head up from where it had hung for I didn't know how long. My neck ached from the change in position, and I heard a few painful pops as I moved it. I felt my head pounding. Seems like that head wound is finally giving me trouble.
I tugged at my arms, feeling rope dig back into my skin in retaliation. I gritted my teeth and began to try and use my fingers to attempt any sort of chance this asshole decided to leave the knot in close range of my hands. But alas, he didn't.
My legs were tied to the chair as well, almost tighter than my arms were. I sighed. It had been 4 days since this asshole had taken me. And it wasn't pretty. I had a large gash on my cheek, and bruises that scattered my torso and thighs. This guy wasn't subtle in his obsession with me. He needed to see me multiple times a day. And if I didn't do what he asked, he whipped me. And the guy got off from it.
I sighed, at least he decided to move me from the dangling chain prison he'd had me in the first three days. The first one he just needed to see all of me. I was just unlucky enough to wake up prematurely.
I'm glad I wasn't awake for most of it. It still hurts. Every time I close my eyes I try and focus on Spencer. His hazel eyes looking down at me with love in them, telling me it'll be okay.
But when I open my eyes again, I'm back in my own personal hell.
I sigh and look around, hoping the blood that was pooling above my eye didn't drip down into my eye where I couldn't see. I'd already viewed this whole room dozens of times. But it was something to do while this asshole lived upstairs with his wife and their young daughter. And they do nothing about it.
My eyes find the only window in this hell of a basement and I see that the light is brighter than usual. Must be noon. I can't tell. That can only mean he's going to be here soon. Gonna take another piece of me that I'll never get back.
"S-spencer…" I whimper quietly, squeezing my eyes shut as a tear builds up in my eye. If I hadn't gone out like he told me this wouldn't have happened. I'd still be in our apartment and I would've been there to welcome him home. Not here. Not with death looming over my head.
"Oh, poor baby. You seriously want him? When you have me? You've got all you could ever want and you never accept me. Why?" The most disgusting and smoke-induced sounding voice echoed into the basement.
I turn my head and glare at my capture, my right eye squinting as the blood from my forehead began to drip over it. I don't answer him, afraid he'll just beat me again for my answer. He'll beat me anyway.
He growled and pulled my face towards his, holding it harshly as he spat into my face. "Answer me, bitch! That's all you are!" He yelled, pushing the chair against a beam. I cough as my head collides with the wood.
I shake as my head slowly lifts to look at him again. "I… I don't want you… I w-want to g-go home…" I stutter. He wants an answer. But I don't want to play into his game. I feel disgusting.
He then launches a punch to my gut, causing me to cough up a spat of blood and begin to groan from my bruises. Add another bruise to the pile.
"WHY?! I am a better man! THE better man! You are mine! Accept it!" He spat, tossing the chair aside along with me. "It's like you don't even like me!" The man growled.
I groaned and began to shrink as much as I could into the chair. Why? Why me? He had a wife and a kid upstairs. A perfect normal life. Why couldn't he just settle?
The man shook his head and growled. "No. No we're gonna show this 'boyfriend' of yours just how good I am to you." He insists before he fishes through the clothes that he had torn off of me and pulled out my phone. I could only hope that Garcia could track its location fast enough.
~~~
Spencer gripped his hair tightly as everyone was scrambling to try and find some way, some connection to bring them close enough to be able to find Y/N. But they had nothing.
So far, they hadn't found any fingerprints on the letter that Spencer or Y/N hadn't left themselves. And the bag was obviously only carried by Y/N. So they were stuck until they could get another piece of information.
Morgan sighed as he watched Spencer go over the letter for what he knew was about the twelve hundredth time that night. He really didn't deserve this.
Morgan took a seat and tried to get Spencer’s attention by lightly grabbing his wrist. Spencer jumped from the sudden contact, sighing slightly.
"Nothing… After 5 hours of searching we have found nothing. All we have is a reminder of how terrible I was to her." Spencer sighed, his esteem having grown drastically low in the time that he had spent reading the letter over and over again.
Morgan sighed. "Kid, you were not terrible to her. Come on. She loves you, man. Seriously, I can see love. And she's got it for you." Morgan insists, nudging Spencer’s shoulder. Reid sighed and squeezed his eyes shut.
"Still, the last thing I did with her was argue over her being reckless. That might be the last thing she ever hears from me." Spencer expressed, clutching harshly at his chest.
Derek sighed again and nudged Spencer once more. "Come on, kid. We'll find her. That won't be the last thing you say. The last words you ever say to her will be on your shared deathbed kid." Morgan teased. "Come on, the girl got you five books when she was supposed to be resting. If anything that tells me she loves you more than the pain she feels." Morgan chuckles, gesturing towards the bag of books on the evidence table.
Reid shrugs and looks down for a moment before it hits him. He stands up suddenly and starts shifting through the plastic bag for the receipt.
"Woah, kid. Did I say something to set you off or-?" Morgan asks suddenly, confused by Spencer’s sudden movement.
"The books! She-she would've taken the b-books out if she had been home l-long enough to put them away-" he rambled, searching and flipping through each of the books, desperately trying to find the receipt and to find some sort of indication as to when she was taken.
"Right, but Reid I don't-" Morgan starts again.
Spencer shook his head. "Just-!" He exclaims almost exasperatedly. Then he finds it. Deeply nestled into a copy of Edgar Allen Poe's greatest poems, was a receipt for four days ago at a bookstore a few miles away from their apartment.
"Found it." He whispers, smiling happily. Maybe he had a chance of finding Y/N after all.
Morgan widened his eyes. "Does it got a date on it, Reid?" He asked, getting up from his chair in a quick haste to know if they had a new clue.
Reid nodded, a few tears building in his eyes. "Four days ago. She's been with the unsub for...for four days…" Spencer sputtered, forcefully putting the small receipt down so he didn't crumple it more.
Morgan gave Spencer a sympathetic look and opened his mouth to speak.
"You're gonna wanna see this, Reid." Garcia came onto the screen, pulling Spencer’s attention to it.
"Hold on baby girl," Derek says before he rushes to the glass door that connected the council room to the rest of the bullpen. He opened the door and called in Hotch, JJ, and Rossi. Prentiss came in as she was coming down the hall.
"What is it Garcia?" Hotch asked as he came in, settling into the room and looking at the screen she currently showed her face on.
"Okay, but this is kind of… gore-y. You might not want to see this Reid-" she began, trying to warn Spencer of the video's contents.
Spencer shook his head. "Show the video." He insists. Garcia sighed, but clicked play.
On the screen showed a much less clothed Y/N and a hooded figure in the room. A single light bulb was hanging from the ceiling.
"Since princess here can't accept me, let me just show you what I've done to your precious girl." A distorted voice echoed through the video speakers.
Spencer’s eyes were wide as he was forced to watch the screen for more information on where his (nickname) was.
The hooded figure then pulled out a knife and advanced towards Y/N. Y/N herself bit back a quiver and a whimper. Spencer knew it by her bitten lip.
The figure then used the knife to cut a long gash along Y/N's left arm, before grabbing the right and cutting his initials into the soft skin that was there.
"You're mine, now. What boyfriend would want you now with another man's claim on you?" The figure growled at Y/N.
Y/N took in a shaky breath and looked into the camera. "I-I can take it. I-i p-promise. S-spencer," mouthing one word before the figure slapped her across the face for doing so.
"You bitch‐!" The figure growled. Spencer shut his eyes tightly and looked away from the screen. He could barely make out what she mouthed. Basement.
Hotch looked to Reid, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Did you catch it? The word she gave?" He asked calmly, understanding Reid's need to look away from what this man was doing to the love of his life.
Spencer shook in terror for a few speechless moments before he was finally able to lift his head back up.
"She… s-she said basement, Hotch. She's in a basement." He announces, keeping his eyes away from the screen.
"Meaning this guy could have a complete other life. And that nobody knows what he's doing downstairs." Morgan infers, Prentiss nodding towards him in agreement.
JJ speaks up next. "Sorry to burst the bubble here, but I think I found the case this unsub is connected to." She says, dropping a very thin case file onto the table.
"Two women, between the ages of 20 to 35 were taken from their homes in the mid afternoon. Yet no one saw or heard. At each of the scenes, a letter is found that is similar to the one we found at your apartment, Spence." JJ informs, sighing. "Each of the women were found two weeks after their capture dumped into the river and stripped of their belongings. With sighs of rape and mutilation." JJ says sorrowfully. Spencer’s fist tightens at his side, his eyes squeezing shut again.
He could've been there for you if he hadn't taken that case in the heat of his anger. He would've kept you from going out and attracting the attention of this unsub. But he was more focused on his anger.
"Reid, do you have anything new?" Hotch asks, jotting down a few notes to be able to refer to later. Spencer sighed and nodded.
"Y-yeah. I found the receipt from the bookstore she went to. Four days ago. It's called Zander's Stories." He says, looking up to face Hotch for a moment.
"Good. We'll head there and talk with the owner, see if we can find any employees with our profile. And if they have cameras we'll check to see who checked Y/N out." Hotch informed. The rest of the team nodded and began to get back to work.
Spencer stood up and stopped Hotch for a moment. "H-hotch, what is the profile? If you don't mind my asking." He asked shakily, his hand grasped at his sleeves nervously. He had been so focused on the letter and understanding the handwriting that he only had a portion.
Hotch sighed. "Reid. We're looking for a man most likely in his thirties or forties. Has a history of being flirtatious, almost creepily so with customers. Most likely has a wife, maybe a child as well. But never wears his wedding ring. Almost wanting to lure women closer to him. He probably talks mostly of himself and his own accomplishments than those of his coworkers. Takes every conversation as a chance to turn it about himself." He answered, giving Spencer a sympathetic look. They all wanted to find her. But they had to be careful.
Spencer nodded as he took the profile in, taking a mental note to think of any people he might know. Anyone who might've been watching them before now. But he found nothing.
"The handwriting seems to be gleeful almost in tone. A-almost as if he'd finally gotten what he wanted. Like a child sending a thank you letter to Santa for the presents they got for christmas." Spencer expressed, picking up the letter to point out the darkened graphite marks on the letter page.
"Interesting. He might've been watching her before. Have you and her been out before this? Perhaps gone to this bookstore before Christmas?" Hotch asked, gathering together the papers he had written on.
Spencer searched his mind for a moment, trying to reach as far back as his photographic memory would go to help him remember if he'd ever encountered a man that matched the profile.
"For Christmas she did get me a-a new poem book. A-and a book on philosophy. She might've visited the store then." Spencer informed, his hands gripping tightly and his knuckles turning white.
"That's it. He watches them for months in advance. He seems very organized. He kidnapped her without much fight. Even with her being injured she would've been able to fight him off if he simply grabbed her. He planned this." Hotch then grabbed his things and rushed out the door to join the others.
Spencer felt his body still as he tried to figure out what he could do. What he could say to help find another clue as to where you were. All he could think of was to try and come up with a geographical location from the different victims and the profile.
He just hoped they wouldn't be too late.
~~~
Again I opened my eyes exhaustedly. It seemed I'd been here ages. I didn't know the times between when I'd wake and when I'd pass out. But those times between when I'd wake and after I'd fallen asleep were the best. I got to see Spencer. In all his gentle and warm light.
"S-spencer… I'm scared…" I whispered, not hearing any echos of breath in the tiny basement this man was keeping me in other than my own.
I almost imagine him replying; Why? I'm here.
I choke back a tired sob. "I-i'm afraid… a-afraid I'll never s-see you again…" I whisper in a reply so hoarse and tiresome.
Again I can imagine his response, almost hear it. Don't give up. I'll see you soon, sweetheart.
I swallow a choked sob and close my eyes once more. My hope was almost gone. I'd been here so long. I knew it was at least 4 days. Maybe 5 at the most. I don't know how much I can handle his beatings. Or his possession.
I sniffle and clear my throat as I hear footsteps above me. He's coming again.
The door to the basement slams open and I jump from the sudden noise. His feet pound against the wooden stairs as he rushed down the stairs. I squeezed my eyes shut as he came into the light, unable to face him.
"You didn't tell me you were fuckin' FBI!" The man yelled, slapping me for good measure. I bite my lip and hold onto my whimper. I swallow harshly, not replying to his obvious question.
The man snarls, raising his hand to slap me once again before he stops himself. I almost let myself think that maybe by some miracle he'd grown some sort of conscience. That maybe he'd show me a little mercy. But of course, I was wrong.
The man pulls out his knife and cuts my bindings, pulling me off of the chair abruptly. He grips my wrists so tightly I was sure he'd break them if he squeezed any tighter.
He stayed silent as he dragged me across the floor, digging his nails into my wrists. He hoisted my body up like a ragdoll and enclosed my damaged and rope-burned wrists into chains, allowing me to hang there limp and tired.
"See this, this is what happens when you lie to me, bitch!" He yelled, picking up a long piece of wood he kept in the basement and thrusting it against my stomach. I sputter and cry out before I could even attempt to silence myself. I could feel my insides aching and throbbing. And the nailheads sticking out of the wood bruised my skin, almost breaking it from the force.
The man pulled the wood back and thrust it against my legs, making me whimper from the pain. The nails dug into my calves and my thighs, drawing blood from the wound. I was losing my resolve to fight and to push through the pain.
The man then brought it back to my torso, and thrusted it against me. I felt my ribs cracking and popping. Pain throbbed from my chest, and it grew stronger with each thrust I endured.
Again and again he beat me, the wood and nails digging into my skin and bruising it well. Moments later I found my eyes slowly falling closed as each thrust collided with my body.
Before my eyes could close completely I felt the wood thrust against my back, causing tremendous pain to my spine. If I had the ability I would have crumbled to the ground.
"You're gonna pay for this. You were supposed to be mine. You are not his. Mine, and mine alone!" The man growled, pointing a finger at me. I look away, only for him to force my face towards him.
"I think it's time you went to sleep, sweetheart~" he purred just as he thrusted the butt of his knife against my head, sending me back to my dreamscape.
~~~
Spencer found his phone once he heard it begin to ring. He'd been eyeing it since he'd finished the geographical map. He could only hope and pray that whoever called him would have some sort of good news. She had been missing for four days. Five now. And they weren't any closer to finding her.
JJ had gone on TV for a press conference. Try and bring the unsub out since most like to inject themselves into the investigation. Spencer had been against it. He'd seen time and time again what happened to the agents that unsubs found out what they were. Prentiss had gotten a beating for it while Reid had to stand back.
But this was the best course of action, according to Hotch. And Spencer had no choice but to agree with him for now.
When his phone began to ring, Spencer jumped in his seat and immediately answered, having seen it was Hotch.
"H-hotch, tell me you've got something." Spencer begs, not even trying to hide his worry anymore.
"Zander Harrison Edison. He's the owner of the bookstore. The employees all agreed to him fitting the profile. He has a wife and a daughter. And has been reported to flirt with a majority of the female customers." Hotch reads off. "I got Garcia working on an address now. But we need you down here. Just for when we have one." Hotch informs, his speech a little quicker than normal. He was probably hurrying out of the book store to get to the SUV.
Spencer let out an audible sigh of relief and his hand finally loosened it's tight and tense grip. "Yes, o-of course Hotch. I got a geographical pinpoint I can send her before I head out." Spencer offered as he began to gather his things in a haste to get to Y/N as quickly as possible.
"Reid, calm down. She's going to be alright. And sure. That'll help her get the address narrowed down for us. Just hurry, we don't have much time to lose." Hotch agreed with Spencer, the sound of a car beginning to start sounding in the background.
Spencer took a shallow breath and nodded. "R-right...r-right I just gotta… j-just gotta calm d-down…" he says with uncertainty. He hangs up the phone and immediately begins to head towards Garcia's office with the geographical pinpoint he had narrowed.
Spencer's feet couldn't carry him any faster than they did as he hurried towards the technical analyst's cave. Spencer hastily knocked and pounded on the wooden door much harder than he intended to, bringing an impatient Garcia from her office.
"In case you haven't heard, we're a little busy right now with a kidnapped-" Garcia began to scold before he noticed Spencer’s hurried and worried expression. "Oh, Reid. Sorry you don't...don't usually knock that hard. I'm finding the address as we speak-" she starts.
"I-i've got the geographical location, Garcia. It-" he sighed, messing with his tie nervously. "It'll help." He says, as his eyes wandered around anxiously.
Garcia nods and gestures for Spencer to go ahead. "Alright then, lay it on me my love." She prompts, turning her chair around and swerving into her desk.
Spencer nodded hesitantly and then began to detail the geographical pinpoint. "Try around the downtown Quantico area. Specifically the more suburban areas. This guy has a basement he's keeping her in." He lists off, pulling back his fingers from his fists as if counting each detail.
Garcia smiles slightly as she types. "Perfect, just imput the owner and/or the renter of the home and-" Garcia trails for a moment. "There, (Random Quantico suburban address here). Go get your Princess, Reid." Garcia insists, handing him a sticky note with the address.
Spencer took the note with no hesitation and spun on his heels towards the exit of the building. "Will do." He replies as his paces grow wider and he finds himself run-walking down the stairs instead of the elevator.
He was going to find you. You were going to be okay.
~~~
I was unlucky enough to wake up only an hour later. Thankfully, he was gone. And I was alone. I hung from the ceiling like a pig in a slaughterhouse. It certainly felt that way too.
My ankles were thankfully not chained. The cold metal digging into my wrists was enough.
I squeezed my eyes shut again, and tried to imagine Spencer once more. Maybe fall asleep again. Seeing him again seemed like a lost cause now. Maybe he'll find someone who doesn't jump into situations without thinking like Morgan. Maybe she'll bring him more happiness than I ever did. And maybe she'll get along with everybody better than I did. Maybe he'll want to marry her too-
Before I knew it tears were cascading down my cheeks. No. No, I couldn't give up yet. We've found people who've been missing for weeks. Though of course that's a rarity. But it still happens.
I'm still alive. As long as that's true, there's hope for me yet.
I heaved as air desperately tried to enter my lungs from this position. Everytime I tried to pull up enough to breathe, the harsh and rusted metal cuffs dug farther into my skin.
I hissed as the cuffs felt sharper around my wrists. I recalled the pictures of the other two victims. They too had deep abrasions on their wrists. Guess they got this treatment too.
I gripped the chains loosely, trying to give my wrists a break from the harsh edge of the cuffs. I dreaded his return. Knowing it was just going to be more torture. He'd gotten his taste of me. Now he just wanted to see me bleed.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps above me. I swallowed nervously, bracing myself for whatever he had planned for me next. But that's when I heard the thud of a door being kicked in. My heart skipped a beat as I heard it, hoping for the love of God it was who I thought it was.
Then the footsteps got quicker and they pounded against the floor above me. I heard a hurried turning of the knob to the door of the basement, before another thud was heard and a plethora of curses followed it.
My chest got painfully tighter with the hopefulness that I was saved. That maybe… maybe he'd come for me. But the pain was worth it.
The knob was turned hastily and the door opened. I still couldn't help but lose my breath for a moment. This could all be a misunderstanding. He could be coming down here to kill me.
But then I saw the most beautiful pair of hazel eyes turn the corner and break at the sight of me hanging from the ceiling.
"She's down here! I need a medic!" Spencer called back up the stairs. He then raced to my side, trying desperately to undo the cuffs.
"Y/N… Y-Y/N s-sweetheart…" he whispered, looking at me heartbroken. I swallowed hard and gestured towards the desk in the corner of the tiny basement.
"O-over th-there. T-the keys…" I whisper hoarsely. My voice must've died on me from all the screaming. Spencer nodded and quickly spun around and grabbed the keys from the cluttered desk of weapons the man used on me.
Spencer swallowed harshly as he took in the tools that lay against the wood of the desk. Many of them still had blood on them, previously used. It ached deep in his heart. He turned his head away from them and focused on her. On the only one who mattered right now.
Spencer brought the keys back towards me and quickly unlocked the cuffs. I fall into his arms and he wraps them around me tenderly. "Y/N...t-thank God…" he whispered. His large hand raised up and cradled my head. "I-i'm sorry… s-so..so sorry…" he whispered into my ear, crying as he held me.
I, although exhausted, found a smile pulling at my lips. "F-for what? F-finding me?" I teased, trying and failing to put my feet on the ground.
Spencer slightly chuckled and pulled me up farther into his arms. "N-no… not that…" he sighed, pulling me as close as his arms and my body would allow. "Don't put your feet down. Your ankles are still fractured sweetheart." He slightly teases back. I let out a small, tired laugh.
"S-spence…" I whisper. "P-please… did-" I begin to ask hesitantly. He nods. "He's been taken care of, Y/N. He's in our custody now. I promise." He says, gently caressing my cheek.
I lean into his touch and sigh in relief. Soon after, Morgan comes down into the basement and almost scares the shit out of me.
"Thank God…" Morgan sighed in relief upon seeing me. He then turned to Spencer. "Reid, help me carry her up to the paramedics." He insisted. Spencer nodded and began to hoist one of my arms over Morgan’s shoulder to help carry me. "I got you, baby girl. You're safe now." He assured me. I nodded weakly as my eyelids began to fall from exhaustion.
They carried me up the stairs and helped to lay me onto the stretcher that was brought into the house. The paramedics then brought me out to the ambulance. Spencer was by my side the entire time.
The paramedics hoisted me into the ambulance and began to work on me and my injuries. It was by around now that I began to really fall asleep. Finally able to sleep without the fear of waking up to a beating.
One of the paramedics looked to Spencer as he watched Y/N as they began to prepare to head to the ER. "You coming?" He asked. "We don't have long for her."
Reid looked to Hotch, hoping to be given leave enough to be with Y/N in the ambulance. Hotch nodded. "Go on, Reid. We'll take care of it from here." He assures.
Spencer smiled at Hotch without another word. He turned around again and entered the ambulance, sitting beside Y/N as the engine started up and they began to drive away.
Spencer leaned farther and closer towards Y/N, feelings of both relief and sorrow washing over him. He had her back. She was safe. She wasn't dead. She was very much alive.
~~~
Hours later Spencer sat in the waiting room for an update on Y/N. He had been separated from her immediately once they arrived, having no news of her afterwards. Anxiety was all he knew as he dreaded what the doctors were going to say about her injuries. Just how much pain Zavier had caused her. What he did to her.
JJ, Prentiss, and Morgan all flowed into the waiting room, smiling as they found Spencer bent over with his face deep in his hands.
"Hey Reid. So… any updates?" Morgan asks, trying to give his friend some space. Spencer rubbed his face tiredly and shook his head.
"Nothing. Not since we got here." He says with a hard sigh. Emily frowned and caressed his shoulder.
"She'll be alright. We'll get the evidence we need and she'll only have some scars. I'm sure." Emily assures, giving Spencer a gentle look.
Spencer pinched the bridge of his nose but nodded. They were probably right. "Probably…" he says softly, looking around once more in hopes that the doctor would come through the door.
Each opening of the door into the actual ER got Spencer worked up. He kept thinking it was the doctor or a nurse calling him back to see her. To see Y/N. But alas, it was not. Time and time again, each and every turn of the knob wasn't for him.
JJ sighed. "I should've taken this case more seriously when it came across my desk, Reid. Especially when the girls looked like Y/N…" she apologizes, looking down at her feet in shame.
Spencer looked up and shook his head. "There was nothing you could've done that would have kept him away from her, JJ. Or prevented him seeing her. He'd already had his eye on her and-" Spencer took a deep breath. "My point being that it isn't your fault. Alright?" He promises, looking up at JJ from where he sat.
JJ sighed and crossed her arms, holding her sides uncomfortably. "I still don't like this. He literally kept her down there and his wife did nothing. This is reminding me of Janice and Cameron Hooker all over again." She groaned, looking towards the hospital entrance as Hotch and Rossi entered.
"How is she?" Hotch asks, standing next to JJ and next to where Morgan sat.
Morgan answered for Spencer in a matter of seconds. "No news yet. They still got her back in intensive care. They'll let us know when she's stable, I guess." He shrugged.
Spencer sighed again and ran another hand through his hair. Hotch noticed this and spoke up.
"How are you handling this, Reid? I can give you a few days off with her after she's out to get settled. If that'll be alright." Hotch suggested. Spencer felt unease begin to grow in his belly. He almost spoke up on it until Hotch finished his portion of the conversation. "Afterwards I plan to arrange for her to work at her desk and help Garcia. To put both of your minds at ease." Hotch assured. "We cannot have either of you constantly worrying about the other's well-being while on the job for the next few weeks."
Spencer’s uneasiness immediately faded and was replaced with a feeling of relief once more. He let a small smile find its way onto his face and nodded to Hotch's suggestion.
"Y-yeah… I think I'd like that." He says softly.
Not a moment later the door opens and a nurse begins calling for Reid. "Is there a Dr. Spencer Reid here?" The nurse calls.
Spencer rose to his feet in an instant, biting his lip anxiously. "T-that's me." He answered.
The nurse nodded. "Alright, well we just finished her surgery. She's got a few cracked ribs and one fractured one. She also has some minor damage to her spine. But other than that, just a medium concussion. She's asking for you, by the way." The nurse announces, smiling gently.
Spencer again couldn't help the smile that teased at his lips when he heard Y/N was asking for him. He followed the nurse back into the ER and towards the recovery room. His heart slightly pounded as he wandered closer and closer to Y/N.
Then, he saw her.
Laying in a hospital bed angled slightly up to support her spine, laid Y/N. She looked up at Spencer with tired eyes, smiling at him instantly.
"Spence…" she called. Spencer was glad to answer to it. He found himself placed at her side immediately, pulling her gently close so as to not damage what the doctors had fixed.
"Y/N… sweetheart…" he called in a soft whisper, kissing the nape of her neck gently. She hummed softly and held her arms limply around his neck.
"Spencer… I-I'm sorry… f-for the a-arguing. I j-just-" she began, pulling slightly away from him, although she could not find anything else she feared more.
Spencer shook his head and pulled her into a full kiss, cupping her bandaged and bruised cheeks. His thumbs gently wiped away her incoming tears and caressed her cheek lovingly. She pressed her lips against his moreso, relief flooding her senses.
She let herself collapse into his embrace and his kiss, ignoring the pain that came with moving too far forward. Spencer laid her back against the bed to prevent any more injury before he continued to kiss her gently. He'd wanted this for a week. And now he had it.
After a long moment, Y/N reluctantly pulled away from the long-overdo kiss. She let Spencer’s touch remain on her cheek as he continued to hold her. "Sweetheart, none of that matters to me anymore. You're alive. You're breathing. That's all I need right now." He says sweetly, kissing her forehead as tenderly and as gently as he could.
Y/N let out a soft giggle and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. "I love you, Dr. Reid." She teased. Spencer chuckled softly in return.
"I love you too, Y/N."

I’m Still Your Sunshine (Tony Stark x Daughter!Reader)
Description: A continuation of the songfic “Sunshine” which follows the events of endgame.
Author’s note: hi guys. So I worked really, really hard on this piece, and honestly, I think it turned out really nice. This is the second verse of “You are my Sunshine,” which is kind of a response to the first verse, so that’s how I treated it, with the entire thing in your POV. I really hope you all like it!
I’m still your sunshine
It came back slow, the feeling of being alive -- almost like waking up from a deep sleep just as the sun began to rise, shining through the window of your bedroom. It’s the kind of sleep that leaves you feeling simply refreshed in the morning and ready to take on the day.
Unfortunately, that peace was rather short-lived; it left the moment I remembered what had happened -- the moment I remembered leaving my dad.
Quickly, I shot upright, panic coursing through my veins as I whipped back and forth, searching for my father. Quick, shallow breaths got shorter and shorter by the second, my vision getting more and more blurry when I couldn’t find him right away.
He couldn’t have died, not him. He was way too stubborn to not figure out a way to survive. Right? Right?!
A hand rested on my shoulder, and immediately I jumped around, arms flailing to try and land a hit on the intruder.
“(Y/N), it’s just me!” the voice sounded like it was coming from far away, on the shore of the ocean where I was drowning. There was no air, no light. I couldn’t find my way out. I was scared. I just wanted to see my dad.
I had to find him. He’ll definitely save me, just like he always has -- just like he promised he always would.
“(Y/N), it’s me, it’s Peter! Just calm down, ok?!”
Peter.
I knew Peter. He was the one that dad recruited. I hated him at first, when he’d stolen my spot in the Civil War, but it didn’t take long for him to weasel his way into becoming one of my best friends.
Little by little, my breathing started to slow down. Suddenly, I could feel Peter’s arms around me, keeping me as close as possible until I calmed down. And... my cheeks felt wet, too. I must’ve been crying.
“It’s ok, I’ve got you,” Peter murmured, refusing to loosen his grip on me for a second. I could only nod into his shoulder as I tried to focus simply on calming down.
Your only sunshine
I glanced over at everyone else, each of them alive and standing just like I was. But... how? And more importantly, how long were we all away?
“Five years.” He seemed to read my mind. Was that one of Dr. Strange’s powers? I didn’t think so, but then again, he wasn’t exactly forthcoming with a lot of information.
“My dad?” My voice was hoarse and sounded foreign as I asked about the only thing I really cared about.
“He needs our help,” he stated simply. Ugh, that was just like him, wasn’t it?
“Whatever he needs,” I answered confidently, straightening up and lifting my chin to stare at the man before me. I could see Peter nod out of the corner of my eye as well as all of the -- what did they call themselves? The Guardians of the Galaxy? Oh well, it didn’t matter as long as they were willing to help my dad.
Dr. Strange opened one of those weird yellow circles that he loved so much, and before long, we were jumping through it and onto what looked like a massive battlefield, surrounded by every ally I could have ever imagined.
Still, I was focused on one thing and one thing only: Steve Rogers, the man who used to think of as an uncle until he decided to betray my father. The man who was standing alone.
I managed to catch his eye for a second, but before I could even say anything, he had turned away. It looked like I would have to find my dad on my own.
“AVENGERS!” Steve summoned Mjolnir... wait, WHAT? “...assemble.” Ok, I’ll figure it out later. Time to fight.
I’ll always love you
The fight was unbelievable. I almost couldn’t tell where one side began and the other side ended. Really, I was just focused on hitting anything that looked gross, which was actually working pretty well.
Suddenly, everything stopped.
It.. it was him. He was right there, hugging Peter, and he was ok!
“Dad!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, fresh tears stinging my eyes. Immediately, he looked up and our eyes met.
I started running so hard that I almost fell a few times as my feet struggled to keep up. My chest was tight, each breath fighting to get through the sobs trapped in my throat. But I didn’t care about all of that. All I cared about was seeing him again.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I was crashing into his arms. Together, the two of us sank to the ground. I could feel him sobbing just as hard as I was as he held me as tight as he could, almost as if he was afraid to let me go again. I wouldn’t even dream of complaining, though. I felt the exact same way.
“I-I thought you were gone,” I gasped shakily, my hands clutching onto anything they could hold to remind myself that he was still there, still with me.
“I would never leave you, sunshine. I’m right here, I promise,” he muttered, pressing a long kiss to the top of my head. “It’s ok. We’re ok.”
Though I’m away
I wanted to stay like that forever, but we both knew it couldn’t happen. Eventually we would have to keep fighting. No matter what, we had to win.
“Scott, how long you need to get that thing working?” My dad was the one who broke the fantasy. Quickly, I wiped my eyes, and together, we stood back up just in time to see a passing Dr. Strange.
“Hey!” I snapped, stopping the wizard in his tracks. “You said one out of 14 million, we win, yeah? Tell me this is it!”
He frowned and glanced at my dad before turning back to me. “If I tell you what happens, it won’t happen.” I searched deeper into his eyes, looking for the cryptic meaning behind his words. There was something there that I couldn’t figure out, but whatever it was, it made me sick to my stomach.
“You better be right,” my dad nodded, laying a hand on my shoulder. I glanced up at him, worried.
Something didn’t feel right.
I’m still your sunshine
It was a mad dash for the gauntlet. The flying woman had it for a while, but she lost it when a rusty old van exploded, and now, it was lying on the ground.
Run. I had to run. I couldn’t let Thanos get there first.
My dad covered me and tackled the massive, wrinkly grape, but I wasn’t really paying attention. All I was focused on was the piece of metal lying just a few feet away. I finally reached it, but just before I could grab it, I was sent flying by a large purple hand.
I gritted my teeth together and forced myself back to my feet just in time to see Strange holding up one finger -- a warning but also a reassurance. We could still win.
I screamed and raced forward, tackling Thanos while dad yanked on the gauntlet, but before I could even hope to rip it off his hand, he punched us both away.
I couldn’t believe it. We... we lost. “I am... inevitable.” I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for it to happen all over again. Waiting for that terrible cold feeling to come back.
“And I... am... Iron Man.” My eyes snapped back open to see my dad with a gauntlet of his own.
And he snapped.
And it was all over.
Just only yours dear
After a while of staring in wonder as Thanos’s entire army turned to dust around us, we all came to the same incredible realization.
We really did it.
We actually won.
I turned to my dad, a wide smile on my face, ready to hug him, congratulate him on winning the war for us and probably throw in a few jabs about how he always has to be the biggest hero. Then I saw him. And suddenly, my smile disappeared.
I dragged myself numbly back to my feet, staring at my father where he sat, burns covering the entire right half of his body. If felt like there was a bubble in my chest, pushing against my heart and lungs and stomach. I kept waiting it to fill with terror or anger or grief or something, but it merely sat there. Like it was just waiting to be popped.
Peter ran past me on my right, and I stumbled a bit. I think it was Bucky, or maybe it was Sam, who helped me back to my feet. I didn’t really care who it was. I just kept walking.
I heard FRIDAY say something along the lines of, “Life functions critical,” but it didn’t really register above the ringing sound that was banging against the inside of my skull.
I fell to my knees next to Pepper in front of him, my entire body shaking as I took in just how bad it really was -- as I realized that my dad, my hero and my constant savior, wasn’t going to make it.
“Hey, sunshine,” he whispered.
I took a deep, shaky breath in, forcing back tears. I didn’t want his last moments to be spent seeing me cry. He hated it when I cried. Somehow, he always thought it was his fault when it never really was. “Hey, dad,” I smiled a bit, though we both knew it was fake. “Everyone’s fine now. We’re ok, thanks to you.” My voice broke as the lump in my throat grew overwhelming, keeping me from saying anything more.
Pepper nodded, her hand laid gently on top of my own. “We’re gonna be ok. You can rest now.”
There we sat, watching as the arc reactor in his chest flickered off. Watching as the life left my dad’s eyes. Pepper started crying on his shoulder, but I could only sit back and stare at the man who’d raised me, who had given everything to me, suddenly gone.
And I was alone.
And I’m coming home someday
It was a nice funeral — classy, of course, considering Pepper was the one who put it together. But it still didn’t change the fact that the greatest man I’d ever known — the greatest man this world had ever seen — was gone.
I felt a slight tug on my hand, and I glanced down to see my younger sister -- part of me still couldn’t believe I actually had a little sister. She was staring up at me with wide eyes, curious eyes that looked frighteningly similar to dad’s. She probably didn’t even understand what was going on. Then again, she was her father’s daughter, so she’s probably a genius.
“What’s up, Morgan?” I struggled to smile at least a little bit, crouching down so I could be at her level.
“I’m hungry,” she said simply.
I chuckled a bit. “How ‘bout you and I go get some cheeseburgers?” She nodded back. “Dad always did love those things, huh?” I asked absentmindedly as I led her past the crowd, ducking to avoid the endless stares of pity that followed us, and back inside the little cabin. It was just like the one he used to always dream about taking me to when everything was over — when we wouldn’t have to be heroes anymore.
“We can get as many cheeseburgers as you want, okay?”
“Okay.”
We ate lunch together. She was a good kid. I could tell. And from the moment I first saw her, I made a promise to myself and to my dad that I would protect her since he couldn’t any more, and it seemed like she understood. In no time at all, we had become inseparable.
After lunch, she started yawning, so I took her to her room for a nap. I hesitated a moment after I had tucked her in. I didn’t want to leave just yet. “Hey, how about a lullaby?”
Morgan nodded, and I smiled, settling in next to her so she could lay her head on my lap.
The familiar lullaby left my lips like it was nothing. I was singing my dad’s part -- the part that had gotten me through some of the worst times in my life. It had ended far too quickly. I wanted to stay longer, to be with her. But before I could even think of getting out of the bed, I heard it.
Morgan’s little voice drifting through the bedroom with the same response to the song my dad had taught me so long ago, stopping me in my tracks.
I felt something wet rolling down my cheeks.
I... I was crying.
For the first time since the day of the battle, I was crying. But somehow, I wasn’t too sad. No, it felt more like a reassurance — like suddenly I knew that everything was going to be ok.
I snapped out of my trance long after the song had finished and glanced fondly down at my little sister, who was already half asleep by then.
“I love you,” she mumbled tiredly.
I smiled and laid a gentle hand on her head, smoothing her hair away from her face.
“I love you, too, sunshine.”
Yes I’ll be coming home someday

walk through fire for you (just let me adore you)
Chapter 1 ▪︎Even At 3am
Series Summary- This is my first attempt at writing with criminal minds characters! The show has recently become one of my favorite things to write and ramble about. This is a series of works that are written around an autistic Spencer Reid, and his journey's of finding comfort and joy within his team.
Chapter Summary- Spencer finally reaches out when he's struggling with a bout of sensory overload. It takes a whole lot of courage on his part and a good dose of platonic love from his boss to calm him down. (ft. Spencer's stuffed axolotl)
Warnings/Topics- Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Talk of sensory issues, Crying, The beginnings of a panic attack, Platonic cuddling, A good dose of Hotch being a dad through and through :)
I post these on ao3 first! my ao3 is here
Word Count- 1.9k
There's a light pattering of the beginning of a storm outside of the hotel room window, and Spencer is so tired. He has been, in fact, for the last two days, 16 hours, and 43 minutes.
If Spencer was any semblance of normal, he thinks, he would probably be soothed by the little sounds of rain, but he's not. In fact, it's angering him. It's a constant white noise sound, like television static, but worse, because it can't just be turned off by the click of a button. He isn't even entirely sure why it's making him as mad as it is.
The sound itself is even making him acutely aware of the way unfamiliar sheets feel against his legs, and the way his hair won't stay out of his face. It's alot, honestly. With every second that passes, the rain makes him more and more upset. None of his usual tactics of calming down have worked so far, either.
He hasn't been able to read, because his brain felt like it was being drowned out by the sounds of rain against various outdoor surfaces. Music, though he'd never been a huge fan of anything other than soft piano, had also felt as though it was simply accompanying the rain, assisting it in it's attempt to make him breakdown.
It starts out like this, usually. The discomfort, leading into being easily aggravated, but from then it's everything setting him off. Rain, the constant chatter of a room filled with busy police officers, the ticking of a clock, the texture of his pants, or sheets, or any unfamiliarity.
He's been trying to sleep for days, but he hasn't been able to. To combat this, he'd been consuming copious amounts of coffee. This had made him more twitchy, antsy, than he had been before. His hands now, even, shake as he throws the blankets and sheets off of his legs.
The frustration reaches it's peak though, when he has to struggle to pull his socks off of his feet, and tears fall from his eyes as he leans back onto the bed. As he tries his best to just breathe, he remembers how Hotch had separated him from the rest of their team, pulling him aside and out of the crowded room, as if he'd had an innate sense that he hadn't been doing well.
"Do you need to leave, Reid? I won't make you stay here if it's not going to be beneficial for others or for yourself."
He hadn't managed to give a complete answer, just nodding, hands curling into his pant legs. "Go with Morgan to the mortuary. I was going to send him alone but the quiet of a car will do you good."
His boss had moved to lay a hand onto his shoulder, deciding not to when Spencer had visibly flinched. "I am completely serious when I say that you have to stop over exerting yourself. It does nobody any good when you render yourself useless to others."
Spencer had frowned, not exactly happy with being reprimanded, but he knew that Aaron was certainly correct.
"Beyond that, though, I understand. I made an agreement when I hired you into this team that I'd be here when you need me. You have to reach out to someone when it's necessary."
So now, as he sits in the dark of his room, he does his best to remind himself that it's okay to reach out when he needs someone. His hands are shaky as he finds his bosses contact and presses call before he can over think it.
It's answered fairly quickly. "Reid? What's going on?"
"I'm- it's not anything serious I'm just… I think I'm gonna have a panic attack and I haven't slept for nearly three days, I don't know how to stop it."
He knows how weak his voice sounds, and he hates it. His hands clench and unclench in his bedsheets. Tears continue to slip down his face and his shoulders and neck feel tense.
He hears a the rustling of sheets on the other side of the call before he gets a response. "Can you come up here? You know my room number, yes?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I do."
"Okay, come up to my room, then. You're gonna be okay."
He nods, only realizing afterwards that Hotch couldn't actually see it. He tosses his own phone into the open duffle bag by the foot of his bed. The room he's in is uncomfortably dark, and he hesitates for a moment before he moves to reach into the black bag, pulling out a small-ish stuffed axolotl.
It's soft, and the eyes are embroidered, rather than buttons or beads, so they feel nice for his hands to run over. The texture is soft but smooth, and he's grateful that it's that rather than shaggy or rough.
When he's made it up onto the third floor, rather than the second, where his room was, his embarrassment levels had risen and by the time he'd made it up to the door, he heavily considered turning back.
Spencer's grateful when he only has to knock once for the door to open.
Hotch stands in the doorway, and this is probably the only time that Spencer would ever see him in just sweatpants and a soft shirt.
He moves out of the way once he realizes who it is, letting him walk into the room.
His boss moves in front of him, to sit on the large bed in the middle of the dimly lit space.
"What animal is that?" He points vaguely at the pink stuffed animal clutched in shaky hands.
Spencer stands awkwardly across from the bed, his hands fiddling gently with the eyes and the tail of the toy. "It's, uhm… an axolotl. Penelope got it for me cause she knows textures I like and don't like."
Hotch gently sits back to make room for him. He pats the empty space, hoping that Spencer will take the invitation to sit. He does, watching his own hands as if avoiding looking up at his coworker.
"Do you wanna talk about what's been happening? It's okay if you don't want to talk about it, but it can be a good distraction."
He nods slowly, tucking his legs in to sit cross legged. "I- the rain. It's like… t.v. static. I haven't been able to sleep because the sheets are so unfamiliar…"
One hand moves up to hardly brush a tear from his cheek. God, he hates this. Vulnerability doesn't come easy to him, it never has. He knows how tight his breathing is, and that realistically he should start breathing deeper to ensure that he doesn't become light headed but- it's a lot easier to say than to do.
"Can I touch your hands, Spencer?"
The man in question gives an affirmative nod and watches as hands slightly larger than his own come into his line of vision, wrapping around one hand that isn't wrapped around the body of a stuffed animal.
"I know it's tough, but can you breath for me? Just a few deep breaths?"
Fingers flex between Aaron's own, squeezing in what he's fairly certain is an effort to ground himself.
Tears drop down steadily still, and one lands softly on the back of Hotch's hand.
A thumb circles slowly in the dip of where Spencer's hand meets his wrist. "I do hate to seem any kind of strict right now, but… Spencer, I know how hard it is to tell us when you start struggling. What I need you to know though, is that when Gideon agreed to have you on this team, and when I made the decision to keep you here, we knew exactly what we were doing."
A small sob comes from Spencer, and it deepens Aaron's own frown.
"You are an incredible asset to our team. You are the driving force to solving most cases we come across. There's nothing you could do, or show, or say, to us that would make us value or love you any less. If that means this, or telling us you need a break, or letting through more tendencies or quirks when we're working- all of that is good. You do so good, I jus-"
He's cut off abruptly when his hands are shaken away and Spencer all but tackles him into a hug, arms wrapping around his neck and face pressing into his shoulder.
"And here I thought you were always so worried about germs."
Spencer sobs lightly, tears dampening the material under his face. His legs rest on the outside of Aaron's thighs, his weight settled on his legs. The man below him tentatively brings hands around his back to envelope him in a hug, hands rubbing down to ease the tension where he can.
"It's- it's so much."
And this, at least, Aaron can understand. His breathing doesn't even out more than it had, and Aaron would be much more worried if he didn't know that at least in some sense, this would tire him out. So, instead of urging him to calm down as he'd mistakenly done before, when he was less aware of Spencer's diagnosis, he takes a different route.
"Spencer, name 3 things you can feel."
Light sniffles come and shaky breaths still echo in his right ear, but he moves to where his mouth won't be muffled.
"That method of- of calming people down is something they use on kids-"
"Three things, Reid."
He huffs a little bit, but obeys. "Your hands." He shifts where he sits. "The- uhm, the bedsheets under my knees."
One hand goes up to his face, pulling strands of hair back to tuck it behind his ear. "My face is really warm."
Even though Spencer was right, the method of describing different sensory inputs was something people use on children, it was working well enough for him that Aaron wasn't going to stop using it.
"Three things you can see?"
He lifts his head from the shoulder it had been resting on, eyes moving around the room. He looks down slightly. "My hands are shaking." A glance to the left, afterwards, "My stuffed animal is to your left."
"And your lamp is on, but it's… dim."
His voice is soft, and it makes him seem small. He feels small too, body trembling under Aaron's hands.
"Can you smell anything?"
Spencer moves his head in a gesture of affirmation. "Your cologne." He pauses to pull in a deep breath. "Cleaning products, several."
He's breathing is beginning to fade into a normal pace, and there's less shake to his voice.
"Taste?"
"Mint… my uh, my toothpaste. Coffee."
Strong hands move up to his shoulders and neck, massaging lightly into the skin there.
"Hm. What about sounds?"
There's a silence in the room now. Spencer sits up slightly with realization. "The rain. It's not raining anymore."
"Mhm. Maybe the universe listened to you, for once."
He nods softly.
They sit like this for a moment, Spencer relaxing into the pressure of Aaron's hands, his tears slowly to a stop.
"Can I… Stay in here? I don't think I'll be able to sleep alone."
Hotch gives a single nod, and it would have seemed curt, but his face is soft. "Of course."
Spencer moves slowly off of him, fumbling for the pink toy before he lays down completely.
Hotch moves to do the same, but notes briefly the distance that had been put between them. "You can come back over here, y'know."
A tense breath was released and it brings a small smile onto the older mans face as he feels Spencer wiggle back up to his side, one arm laying over his stomach and a head resting against his chest. He takes the opportunity to wrap arm back around slender shoulders, only after lightly brushing stay strands of hair behind Spencer's ear.
"Goodnight, kid."
"Night Hotch."

warnings: Talks of blood, threats, death, and cursing
Everything in the office is relatively calm today. The team is getting busy work done, the other agents in the room doing the same. All in all, it seems to be a calm and stable environment. At least, it seems that way before Penelope comes blasting into the room screaming mangled sentences.
Derek is the first to take action, placing his hands on her cheeks and giving her directions on how to breathe. Hotch comes out of his office having heard all the noise and listens carefully.
Once Penelope catches her breath she makes eye contact with JJ “JJ its Y/N, I was hacked and now there's this video on my screen. I placed it on the briefing room TV.” Her gaze shifts to Aaron before continuing, “He’s demanding to speak to you sir, I'm not sure why I just-please” she all but sobs out at the end.
The entire BAU team rushes to the briefing room in a panic. Once everyone is in there and see the video, you could hear a paper clip drop. On the screen is Y/N, she’s tied up and covered in dirt with a gaping cut on her forehead.
Hotch is the first one to react. He slams his fist and throws his chair across the room before speaking “Who are you and what do you want?” he all but screams. His reaction brings confusion to all the other agents faces. As far as they know, he’s only met her in passing. The only one they suspected to have this reaction is JJ, who is currently sobbing into Reid’s shoulder.
Y/N’s head shoots up with recognition in her eyes. “A? Aaron baby calm down okay, I’ll be fine I promise” she coughs out before being slapped by a gloved hand. The action causes every agent in the room to grow more tense while their hearts break.
“Now now agent, look at what you’ve made me do. I’d hate to hurt the lovely lady or the baby she’s carrying.” The masked man sings out while waving a knife into the camera. In the background they can see Y/N crying softly while looking at the floor, seeming broken.
Aaron grows more confused and hesitates to respond. He knows this man could be playing a game or the love of his life could be pregnant. The only people who know about his and y/n’s relationship are the two involved and Jack. They had been seeing each other in private for two years. They had been able to keep it on the low, due to her and JJ’s relationship being less than perfect. The couple had even gotten engaged three months ago, the plan was to tell the team at a dinner in a few weeks.
The man on the screen clicks his tongue “Oops, I spill the beans?” he pauses to place a hand on his captive’s shoulder. “You see when I was picking this little beauty up, I just so happened to see a positive test on the bathroom counter. Now, don’t get mad at the little lady she hasn’t truly had enough time to tell you just yet.” he laughs out as if a hilarious joke has been told. He claps his hands causing a sharp sound “Now, what I want you asked? Money my good sir. A rather large amount I'm afraid. You have twenty-four hours to bring me seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. What happens if you miss that deadline you might ask? Well then you are just full of good questions today Aaron boy! You miss it and your lovely fiancé and the baby die. I will make it painful, I will carve this baby out of her and skin it alive before i have some fun with her myself. Tik-tok agent, your family is on the clock.” The man backs away from the camera before using his knife to lift y/n’s chin up.
Aaron’s throat clogs up at the sight. “Sweet heart, I'm coming for you okay? Just trust me. I love you” he chokes out with tears running down his face.
A small yet loving smile comes to her face “I love you bear, and I do trust you. Don’t lose yourself okay?” she gasps out due to the knife cutting into her cheek. After this the screen goes dark.
Aaron’s gaze snaps to Pen “Garcia, do what you can to track where he was broadcasting from. Try to analyze his voice if you can, I would like to see if I can recognize it. Morgan, find recently released inmates that have a background in hacking or kidnapping. Reid, just incase that fails try to find arrest or maybe killed unsubs that had family left behind. Prentiss, you and Rossi go to Y/N’s house and see if there is anything there that can be of use.” He passes out orders left and right.
After everyone leaves to follow stated orders JJ is left in the room with him. “What was that about Hotch? Why would someone take her to get to you?” JJ all but shouts at him with her hands balled into fists.
Aaron clears his throat and narrows his eyes at the woman. “Forgive me for my honesty, Agent Jareau, do not forget where we are. Your sister and I are engaged. We have been dating for over two years. We have been engaged for three months. While I respect you as an agent, I will not forgive the things i’ve been told from y/n. If you spent time with her or showed her that you cared about her these would be things you already knew. I love her, Jack loves her, and I would kill for that woman. When you think about it, I will kill for her in the next twenty-four hours. Now, stay out of my way. When we get her back, I suggest mending the relationship you shattered.” he states in a non sense tone before leaving the room.
JJ falls into couch with tears streaming from her face. She knew everything Hotch had said to her was true. She had left her sister behind a long time ago. Y/N was sweet, careful, and beautiful, she felt as if all that kindness would shift her career back. She distanced herself from the one person who had only ever shown her love and support. For what? To further her career? She screams out before slinging a chair into the wall. “I’m a reflection of who I used to be. I don’t have to hurt but I have to let it heal.” she whispers out before jumping up and running to help Penelope.
Hotch promptly leaves the building, grabbing a duffel bag on the way out. Once he gets to his car he speeds to the bank and removes the kidnappers requested amount from his savings. He knows that he will do whatever it takes to get her back. Once he’s back in his car he pulls a picture from his wallet before a memory pops up.
“Aaron! Quit it mister!” Y/N giggles out while he tickles her mercilessly. She’s clad in his t-shirt and a pair of his sweatpants. He’s much the same, pajama pants and a white t-shirt.
“Sorry darling, not gonna happen. You asked for this when you stole my shirt!” he states in an accusing tone.
It’s at this moment Jack comes in full blast and attempts to tackle his father. “No dad, leave her alone!” he yells out while grabbing one of his arms. The couple on the floor laughing out while play fighting on the floor.
Y/N smiles mischievously before looking a the young boy “Jack you gotta help me take him over. You ready?” the woman asks in a playful yet ready tone. The question causes the boy to nod furiously before the two each grab an arm and work Aaron onto his back.
Once they are both on top the tickling ceases, leaving each of them wrapped protectively in the older male’s arms. They are all laughing tiredly before the woman leans up and places kisses upon both of their cheeks.
Jack smiles “You okay momma?” the young boy asks causing both adults to pause in surprise. It’s the first time he’s called her that. Aaron smiles proudly before turning to gaze upon the woman who had turned both his and his son’s life around for the better.
Y/N smile is one of pure happiness “Yeah baby I'm okay, thank you for coming to my rescue.” she states while a stray tear falls from her eyes.
Aaron snaps out of his flashback to his phone ringing. He picks it up to see Garcia’s number flashing on the screen. “Garcia tell me you have something, please.” he chokes out while tears fall from his eyes. He has to find her, he can’t live his life on repeat. His heart won’t make it this time, it can’t.
There's no playful banter or anything on the other side of the phone “Sir, I found him. The team is headed there now, the address is already on your phone. Please, just bring my sunshine back.” she cries out at the end.
He clears his throat before responding “You know I will. Thank you Garcia, I owe you my life” he ends the call and punches the address into a GPS before speeding out of the parking lot. “I’m sorry I let you down baby, I’m on my way” he states softly to the empty vehicle.
He makes it to the address before anyone else; without hesitation he throws the car door open and runs into the building carrying the now full duffle bag. “I’m here, I have the money. Now come out here and show yourself.” he shouts into the seemingly empty building.
At first his only response is silence. Suddenly there's a sharp clap from behind a side wall. “Slide the money this way, won't you? You’ve come all this way no need for mishaps now.” a deep voice hisses from the darkness.
Aaron’s entire being tenses a bit “I’ll slide you this bag as soon as I see her. Now give me my fiancé” he all but growls into the room.
There's a deep sigh coming from the masked man before the rolling chair y/n is tied to slides into the room. In response Hotch runs to her before sending the duffel bag sliding to the kidnapper. With a flash of movement y/n is untied from the chair and being hauled to the other side of the room.
The masked man unzips the bag before tensing in pure unadulterated shock. In the bag was not a single dime, only a ticking bomb. “Well, shit” is all the man can say before it goes off. The entire building shakes with the force of the blast before becoming a blazing fire.
Aaron and Y/N are both outside on the ground behind the car he came in, just making it before the bomb went off. Aaron grabs her chin and pulls her into a long passionate kiss, he envelopes her into his body. He holds onto her as if she’s his life line. His heart beats at a pace that could put a hamster on a wheel to shame before she places her hand on his cheek. “Bear, where did you get a bomb?” the young woman asks in shock while looking into his eyes.
He chuckles in response before shoving his head into her neck “Don’t worry about it love. Is it true? Are we having a baby?” he asks before leaning back to take her in fully. She’s a bit bruised, caked in dirt and blood, and looks exhausted. As she’s nodding excitedly while tears slip from her eyes.
“Yes handsome, we’re having a baby.” She gasps out before smiling brightly at the devoted man in front of her. When she looks into his eyes all she sees is love, devotion, and pure happiness.
Before he can respond the team comes into the lot tires squealing. They all jump out of their cars and run to the couple on the group. Once they get there they all wrap themselves around the two. Not a single one even questions the building that’s slowly becoming dust behind them. JJ is the first one to speak as she cries into y/n’s neck. “I’m so sorry for how I've treated you. Please, let me make it up to you” she asks with desperation coating her tone.
Y/n rears back in surprise before seeing the truth in her sister’s eyes. “I’m all about second chances honey, I love you JJ.” she states as she smiles lovingly at the woman in front of her.
JJ smiles brightly in response before hugging y/n again. “I love you too sis.” she whispers out in both surprise and relief.
Aaron watches the interaction carefully before smiling proudly at his fiancé. She truly was too good for this world.
Six months later…
Aaron could not be happier than he was in this very moment. Y/n has just given birth to their baby girl. His daughter. He’s perched on one side on the woman with Jack on the other. The small boy is truly fascinated with his new sister. The past few months he’s been befuddled on why his sister was in y/n’s stomach.
Said woman looks up to him, smiling happily before the entire team busts into the room. Their speeds all come to a stop when they see the small baby in y/n’s arms. JJ is the first to step up before Jack looks up angrily “No! Don’t touch my sister.” He growls out before standing in front of the girls in bed with a protective stance.
Ever since his y/n was kidnapped he has been extremely dedicated to protecting her. She had since moved into the house with him and his father, causing that love and dedication to only grow.
JJ’s face can only be described as pure surprise when she crouches down to Jack “Jack honey, it’s okay, I promise. I’m y/n’s sister. I won’t hurt either of them, scouts honor.” She replies to his seriously.
The young boys face morphs into one of sheer confusion. His eyes turn to slits as he looks around to everyone in the room. Finally he turns to y/n, who nods at the boy while chuckling. “Does that mean I can call you my Auntie?” he asks while bouncing up and down.
Everyone in the room smiles with contented looks on their faces while JJ’s excitement matches the young boy bouncing before her. “Of course you can sweetie, I am your aunt.” She smiles brightly before the boy half way tackles her into a hug.
He nods with a serious look on his face, “Okay, you can see Jenn!” he states happily before moving to climb back into his original spot.
JJ stops moving before looking to the family on the bed. The couple smile at each other before y/n moves the baby to where everyone can see her face. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet Jennifer Penelope Hotchner.” the mother states softly to the team.
In response to the statement, there's a girlish yelp from the hacker in the room. “Did you?” She gasps out, gaining a nod in response. “Oh my, oh me. I have a baby named after me. Oh my freaking goshies, guys! Oh, Derek baby hold me up. I may pass out.” the eccentric woman rushes out while fanning herself.
The team crowds around the family in the bed, all gushing over the cuteness before them. Spencer finally is able to hold the small girl. He places a thumb on her cheek before he starts to ramble about all the colleges he will get her into in the future.
Y/n places her head onto Aaron’s chest wearing a dazed smile. He brings his hand to pat down her hair while he looks down. Jack is asleep on her chest with her arm around him protectively. He has never felt prouder than he does in this moment. He has every single person he loves unconditionally in this room. Time really does heal when the correct steps are taken. “I love you future Mrs. Hotchner” he whispers lovingly.
Said woman looks up to her future husband, love practically spilling from her as she all but glows. “And I love you, Mr. Hotchner.” she whispers in return.
No matter where you go, I will be by your side. Our unbreakable bonds mean we will be as one forever and face the world together.

And then I wrote a really long reaction post for Endgame...
Here’s the short form: <3 <3 <3... ?? @#(*$A)(@#*!?! <3.....<3 ....?<3? <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 !!!
The super long form is below the cut...
So, I went into this movie with a lot of feelings, and I came out with a lot of feelings, and it's taking me some time to process them.
The first, and maybe the most important thing I want to say, is that regardless of my personal fannish/emotional reaction to some of the events -- the film itself was an absolute triumph. I mean - it was amazing. There were a great many things to love - and that is a list that includes some things I hated. Love/hated. Both! The fact that they could bring a series of films that spans over a decade together in a way that had people laughing and crying in the theatres, often both at the same time - it's just truly, truly awesome. It says something that they were able to build these real and true characters who feel important enough that their fates can actually break our hearts.
So I applaud that, and I hope the film industry takes a good long look at these films and learns from them. Audiences are willing to wait for the pay-off, we're willing to tackle difficult things, we're willing to fall in love with what we see on the screen if the writers and producers and directors put the effort into allowing it.
That said...
I really liked this movie overall, but I went into it really wanting two specific things for myself, and I didn't get them. In fact I kind of got the opposite of them, and a lot of my coming to terms with the movie has been coming to terms with just... not getting what I wanted. And finding a way to be okay with that.
I wanted Tony to live - and if you're back here behind my spoiler cut, you know I didn't get that one. It was really hard to lose him. He was my favorite character in this whole crazy cast. I loved that he could be so wrong sometimes, and with so much utter conviction. I loved that he could be terrified out of his mind and then just do the terrifying things anyway, because somebody had to, and he could. I loved how smart he was, and how vulnerable he was, and how he built walls of words to defend himself and define himself. I loved how hard he loved the people that HE loved, and how much he was willing to do for them. I loved how great he was with kids (and I love that he got one of his own!) and I love how that seemed at least in part because he never finished growing up himself.
So while I am wrecked that this is the end of Tony in this particular strand of the comics universe, I can't deny that it is 100% true to who he was. He was always going to be the guy who would do this, if it needed to be done. And it did, so he did it, and it broke my heart - but in the end I have to be okay with it, because yeah. That was Tony Stark, distilled down to his purest self. I hated it, but I also loved it, and more importantly I think, I bought it.
I also really would have loved to have a kind of on-screen farewell to my pairing, and I didn't get that, either. I'm a Science Boyfriends kinda gal, and there was almost zero interaction between Bruce and Tony - there was zero relevant interaction. But it is what it is - this was never going to be everything to all people, and that's one of the relationships that didn't get priority. I'm okay with that, too - mainly because its absence means they didn't do anything TERRIBLE to it, either! When it comes to my pairings, I'd far rather TPTB leave them alone than do something I don't like. That said - it would have been nice if they'd you know, exchanged a couple of lines? And it would have been SUPER nice if Bruce had been around to react to Tony's death. Getting past it, getting past it.... ;)
My biggest fear going into this movie was that it would kill my fannishness about the Avengers. I just recently rediscovered it, and I've been writing like a MAD thing. I've stayed up too late writing, I've gotten up way to early to write... I've written through nights when I was supposed to be raiding with my online pals, or watching stuff with my housemates. I've definitely done quite a lot of writing when I was supposed to be working! And it's been fun, and it's felt really good, and I just didn't want to lose it. I missed fandom and other fans, and I missed caring so much about characters and pairings. Having it all back again these past couple of months has been a blast -- so I went into Endgame a) pretty sure they were going to kill Tony and b) pretty sure that killing Tony would kill my fannish joy.
I am happy to report it did not. I'm still in love, and I'm still writing like crazy. I gave myself some pretty stern talking-tos in the lead-up to the movie, along the lines of "Are you really going to let a couple of rich white geekboys decide what happens to YOUR Tony Stark?" and in short form, "CANON IS NOT THE BOSS OF ME!" I think it helped. I'm still here, anyway!
There are a few other things I really didn't like. One - the CGI for Bruce was a horror show for me. It landed right in the Uncanny Valley, and I could barely stand to look at him on screen. Every time he showed up, it was like a cartoon character appearing in my live action show. I think that actually may have helped me with the Tony thing, though -- because it yanked me out of the movie when Bruce was onscreen, and that gave me the distance I needed to not become a puddle of shivering misery on the floor when Tony died saving the world.
Don't get me wrong - I really do like that he's able to integrate now. I like that he has control. Still, I'm not sure this is a road I ever really want to go down in my writing. I like Hulk too much to want to see him essentially killed by Bruce (which is kind of how I'm reading this.) I get that Hulk IS Bruce IS Hulk and if I were his therapist I'd be all over it. But I'm not his therapist - I'm one of his slashfic writers. And as such, I prefer him splintered and angsting over it. :)
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about Natasha, and I'm not sure they're particularly coherent. I think if Endgame had happened exactly the way it did, WITHOUT the disgusting Ultron lines about how she's a monster because she can't have kids, I'd be fine. As it is, Ultron happened and then Natasha gave herself up for a guy with a family, and from a purely Doyle-ist perspective I find that sequence of events suspect, and deeply gross.
On the other hand, from a purely Watsonian perspective, I fully agree with what <a href="https://cesperanza.tumblr.com/post/184622436895/i-cant-believe-that-as-a-prominent-woman-in">cesperanza had to say about Nat</a>, so I'm just going to let that stand for me, too.
Probably the final thing I didn't like was fat!Thor. I do get the arguments on the other side of this, that it's cool to show even a super hero can get depressed and live off cheez whiz and get fat and disaffected. But I also think that's not all there is to this; I think you don't make Chris Hemsworth run around in a fat suit without on some level doing it for the point-and-laugh. And I find that kind of "joke" toxic and disgusting. I'm not going to go on and on about it here, but in short just - a world of no from me on that.
So what's my score so far? 2 things I wanted but didn't get, 3 things I didn't like? But on the bright side...it's now time to move along to the bright side! And the bright side is pretty damn bright.
I was incredibly happy that Tony and Steve were able to repair their relationship. Civil War was such a tough movie to watch, and while there was at least a thread of hope for them at the end of it, this resolution was a long time coming. They're so very different in their worldviews and methods, but so very alike in their absolute dedication to protecting people and doing the right thing - the friction has always made perfect sense, but getting to see them come to terms with each other ... that's something I have really wanted for a long time. I was extremely sad watching Tony just chew into Steve at the beginning of Endgame, but not at all surprised - Tony was completely done in, physically, mentally and emotionally. Just seeing Tony that physically wasted and weak was hard. Steve's reactions to it were perfect, though, just perfect. I don't think I could have asked for any more than I was given for the two of them.
I loved Tony's relationship with his daughter - in fact, I love Tony's relationship with every character below the age of majority that he's ever been on screen with. Tony may be my OTP (One True Parent) in fact - he's just so deeply interested in these kids (Harley, Peter, Morgan) as human beings. And he treats them oddly as equals, while still somehow managing to parent well for each of them. He's hilarious and snarky and caring and he connects. I don't know, I just adore it. We didn't get to spend a lot of time with Morgan, but it was obvious she adored Tony and was well on her way to growing up to be just like him, and I wholly approve.
And before I leave the topic of kids - Tony mourning Peter broke my heart, and his love for Peter when he came back knitted it back together again (that hug omg, </3 -> <3) and then Peter's breakdown when Tony was dying, finally calling him "Tony" instead of Mr. Stark or sir...there it goes, heart broken again. BROKEN.
I and the rest of the universe loved Steve wielding Mjolnir (and Thor KNEW it!). We all saw this coming from way back at the party in Ultron, and a part of what this series of movies has managed to do that I love is take moments like that, a billion movies ago at this point, and pay them off one by one. Sure, it's fan service, but because they were patient, it feels earned. I adore it.
I'm going to wrap this up for now because if I don't, it's never getting posted - I have a ton of thoughts and even MORE feelings about this movie, and I'll be posting more of them because how can I NOT. But I do want to talk a little about one of the major things that literally filled me with joy:
The return to Avengers 2012!!! <3 <3 <3
I just want to go back and live there - like, I want to build a tinyhouse with a telescope in the window and just stare at it all from the shadows forever. I could literally sit for days upon days of "what happened in Avengers 2012 around what we saw on the screen in Avengers 2012" - that could be an entire TV series and I would tune in for every freaking episode. It was SO. MUCH. FUN! From "feel free to clean up..." to "take the stairs" and "SO MANY STAIRS" to Loki pretending to be Steve and Loki stealing the tesseract and poofing out to Thor saving Tony with his hammer and both of them so jazzed about it... OMG. I just love it all, and I'm so happy they did it. I loved everything around it - I loved Bruce trying half-heartedly to smash, I loved the Sorceress Supreme up on the rooftop fighting the Chitauri, I loved Bruce getting smacked out of Hulk and Hulk on a lounge chair with a sunhat over his face. EVERYTHING. I just. <3
I went into Endgame expecting the worst for my favorite character, and I got the worst for him. But the more I think about this movie, the more I find that it's a happy place for me. It gave me what I didn't want and it made me like it. Like - a LOT. I went into it expecting/fearing that it would kill my fannishness about Avengers, and it's done the exact opposite - it's brought me back into fandom, back into contact with fans, back into thinking all the thoughts and feeling all the feelings and wanting to share them with other people who are thinking and feeling about the same thing.
I feel like this entire series of movies, this slate of characters, this universe they've built - it's a gigantic wonderful amazing heartbreaking heartmending accomplishment, and I'm just super glad it's all here, and that I got to experience it all.
(And I can't wait to write a metric fuckton of stories that ignore it! Tony may be gone in this timeline, but he's never going to die in mine, damn it!)

"SETHIE!" Seth hadn't even made it back to town before being tackled by a overly hyperactive blonde girl.
"I missed you too Liv" Seth groaned, slightly out of breath.
"You're lucky I'm here and not Rubes, she's very mad at ya"
Seth grimaced at the thought of seeing his older sister.
"Hey! Redhead!" Liv yelled at Becky. "Is this too basic" she gestured at her hair.
"Um-"
"You're right, too boring" Liv pulled out a compact mirror and smiled at it, Becky and Drew staring in shock as her hair turned bubblegum pink.
"How?" Drew asked Seth.
"Liv's a chaos fairy. Hyper 24/7, pranks everybody. C'mon brat" Liv squealed and hopped onto his back..
"Hey Livvie, Mom conjured my clothes..would you mind?" Seth asked his sister's girlfriend
Drew and Becky watched curiously as the unremarkable clothes Seth's mother had put on him morphed into dark-grey skinny jeans and a blood-red t-shirt.
"Hair too?" the fairy asked
"Yes please."
Seth shook his head and a quarter of it immediately went blond "There ya go Sethie! You look like you again, only bigger!" Liv giggles, patting the wolf on the head.
"Thanks Livvy" Seth grinned. "You're still small though"
"I'm still bigger than Millie!" Liv managed to kick Seth in the hip. "Good luck apologizing to everyone. Trent's mad because you made Tyler cry!"
"Tyler always cries!"
"Okay true, but you also made Mandy upset!"
"How long have you been away from home?" Becky asks
"I haven't lived in Haven in 8 years. I lost contact with everyone 18 months ago." Seth explained
"Dude the only reason we didn't completely lose it was because we still felt you through the pack bond" Liv tells him "We knew you weren't dead but...it was hard, anyway so why are you with the newbies?" Liv asked as they made their way to the main house.
"They're my mates." Seth said simply.
"Oooooh, Sethie's got two mates!" Liv said excitedly. Becky looking at her with caution. "I need to see Sarah, you are making me coffee later!" Liv hugged him and skipped off, Becky and Drew watching her.
"I've only heard of chaos fairies, she was...unique" Becky said.
"I need to remind Ceasero she's not allowed any caffeine" Seth said shaking his head
The three mates walked along the path back to the town in silence after Liv left. None of them really knowing what to say.
"So you guys have had this town for a long time?" Becky finally broke the increasingly uncomfortable tension
"My grandparents founded Haven. Grandfather...used to run a circus and all of the acts were different beings. When he retired, everyone just settled here. Haven was these old fairgrounds and some of the woods surrounding it."
"A Circus?" Drew exclaimed
"Grandfather was a warlock, especially skilled in persuasion and he figured it would be a way for him and his friends to not only use their abilities for profit, but to not have to hide as much. Normies will ignore most Supe shit if they think its a trick"
"Absolutely true, they're dense as hell" Becky replied.
"So, you knew Finn?" Seth asked.
"Sort of, his name was Prince back then, always wondered what happened, not surprised that vampires had something to do with it...when they helped save you. I can't believe I just said that" Becky facepalmed, remembering what Mox and Stephanie had said.
Seth smiled and shook his head "I know Haven is an odd case. Weird even amongst the weird. I mean, I'm the Wolf/Warlock hybrid that claims a Lion, a Witch, a Vampire Queen and a Vampire thats the vessel for a literal demon king for parents. Weird is kinda my thing"
"Do you remember that night?" Becky asked. Seth looked down, toying with his amulet before sitting down.
"A little. I remember being in a car with my mommy and daddy" Seth said in a faraway voice "The was a big flash of light and loud noise, and then I was flying through the woods. I had bite marks on the back of my neck. Knowing now what I know about my bio parents, I think my Mom shifted and was carrying me through the woods by the scruff of my neck."
Becky hesitantly reached over and touched the top of Seth's bowed head. Drew looking on silently. It seemed like his spitfire was already growing attached to the younger man, while Drew himself was more hesitant. Seth lived...by Drew's upbringing, an unnatural life. Haven was a lot to get used to and he'd had Becky to himself for so long.
"Do you think it's possible that your mom changed you?" Drew asked. "To protect you?"
"Could be I don't know" Seth pulled his hair. "I don't like thinking about it"
"Hey brat" A girl said, materializing next to the three. She was holding a coffee cup and had red lowlights and was so pale, Drew thought she could be a vampire.
"Hey, Ruby." Seth said quietly, "Guys this is one of my sisters."
"Yo." The girl greeted them easily and handed her brother the Chicago Bears to-go mug "One Double Chocolate Cappuccino, courtesy of Cesaro. Figured you could use it, heard you haven't had coffee in a year or so."
"No espresso?" Seth groaned.
"You know he puts too much in" Ruby said, "Besides I want to be able to sleep tonight. Your howling was obnoxious" she turned to Drew and Becky. "If either of you hurt my little brother, I will rip out your eyes and shove them down your throats"
"Ruby."
"What it's true. We lost you once, brat. Never again" She replied with a smile
"Did anyone mention that Seth is the baby?" Ruby asked
"Millie is younger then me thank you very much" Seth said rolling his eyes and taking a sip of his drink
"Millie hasn't been missing for 18 months, and gone for 7 and a half years before that. So excuse us if we're all a bit concerned about all this" she says waving a hand at Drew and Becky.
"Excuse me, who's Millie?" Becky asked.
"My baby cousin" Seth replied fondly. "She's my Uncle Shawn's kid"
"She's a fire siren, sneezes out fire like crazy" Ruby added, drinking her coffee.
"She doesn't have much in the way of control yet. So she sets shit on fire a lot...luckily her mate is a water sprite. Jordan is really great st putting out flare-ups" Seth explains "Please don't threaten my mates. Honestly, I'm a hot mess. I doubt they even want to be with me anyway"
"Nonsense" Ruby waved her hand. "Mates are mates always. Do you think I would have gotten with Liv by choice?" Seth chuckled and blushed when Becky smiled at him. " Does anyone know about Ro?" He asked.
Ruby's face fell. "Mom is working on a tracking spell, since you don't remember exactly where Heyman's compound is located. Dad is making her rest before she casts it though so that won't be done until tomorrow, the good this is that Heyman can only do his enslaving curse during the full moon...so we have 6 days to find Ro."
"Fuck" Seth pulled at his hair. "None of this would have happened if I hadn't ran away"
"Stop it" Drew said, gently pulling Seth's hands down.
Drew had sat there quietly listening to the exchange between Seth and his sister, trying to learn more about the odd man the fates had bound him and his firecracker to. From what he'd gathered so far Seth was well-loved by his mismatched pack and had been sorely missed while on his journey of self-discovery.
"Don't beat yourself up. You couldn't have known any of this would happen" Drew says softly, still holding Seth's hands in his larger ones. Seth's brother had been right. Seth did look amazingly...like a slightly smaller version of himself, less so now that part of his hair was platinum blonde.
"He's my big brother" Seth whimpered. "He doesn't even know I'm not mad at him anymore, if Paul's spell works on him, he'll be gone for good" Drew unknowingly wiped away a tear that had trailed down Seth's face.
Becky wrapped her arms around Seth's waist "That isn't going to happen, sweetheart. We are going to get your brother back and Heyman will pay for everything he's done to both of you." She says fiercely. To which Seth nodded but said nothing.
"Forgive me for asking but are you his sister from the witch side or vampire side?" Drew asked Ruby.
"Stephanie and Hunter, can't be around Finn and Violet, my blood is toxic and Bálor hates me" Ruby answered
"I only have one sibling from Finn and Violet and that's Jordan. He's the last of Finn's pre vampiric bloodline. His parents died when he was a baby, and an old woman from his clan brought him to Haven shortly after" Seth tells them.
"Is this the same Jordan that's your cousin's mate?" Becky asked. "Yeah, thought my uncle was gonna kill him, then Finn was gonna kill him" Seth shook his head.
"Haven is completely integrated? " Drew asked, he and Becky hadn't realized just how many different species of Supernatural inhabited the small town.
"Unless they can't be around each other for a physiological reason, yep" Ruby answered "One of our cousins is a sun sprite, and she glows with actual sunlight. So she can't be around Finn and Violet."
"No one gets turned away unless you give our father a reason to" Seth said, "The pack is a family"
