My favorite headcannon for stone is that for most of his life, most of the things hes been or done have been for other people.

He joined the military because his parents wanted him to.

He became an agent because thats what his peers, friends, and family wanted him to be.

And He became a bodyguard after that because thats what the government and his bosses wanted him to be.

Most things, outside of studdying how to make damn good coffee and latte art, have been for everyone else in his life. Hes done them because he was supposed to.

But being robotniks assistant? He wanted to be robotniks assistant.

And so while robotnik thinks that stones there only because hes forced to be, or because he wants to profit off of him, in reality, being with robotnik is the one thing in stones life that hes actually chosen.

I think its why their so cute together. Robotnik doesnt belive that anyone can love him, that anyone can actually want to be around him, and by mearly existing stone proves him wrong.
