Some late night Cherik thoughts about how obvious these two men are in love the second they meet because I cannot get these two idiots out of my head. It’s painfully obvious that these two are in love. Like, it’s not even subtle. You can practically hear the romantic tension in every argument they have about mutants and humanity. Sure, they’re on opposite sides of the whole “mutant coexistence” debate, but their entire relationship screams “soulmates with irreconcilable differences.”

First off, their chemistry is ridiculous. Take X-Men: First Class, for example. They meet, and within minutes they’re saving each other’s lives, having deep conversations about trauma, and staring into each other’s eyes like the rest of the world doesn’t exist. That scene where Charles uses his powers to help Erik unlock his full potential? That wasn’t just about mutant abilities—that was emotional intimacy. It’s basically a love confession. Erik literally tells Charles, “You’re my friend,” but you can tell he wants to say something deeper. They just don’t know how to deal with these overwhelming feelings, so naturally, they bury it under philosophical debates.

Then there’s the way they talk about each other. Even when they’re on opposite sides, Erik can’t go five minutes without talking about how much he respects Charles (loser). And Charles? He’s always trying to “save” Erik, like some tragic romantic hero. He never gives up on him, no matter how many times Erik declares war on humanity. That level of dedication is not just “friendship.” Charles forgives Erik for everything, even when Erik leaves him paralyzed. Who does that for someone they’re not hopelessly in love with?

And don’t even get me started on Days of Future Past. They’ve been estranged for years, and what does Charles say when he sees Erik again? “I don’t want your suffering. I don’t want your future.” Excuse me? That’s not just mutant politics; that’s heartbreak. They’re always caught in this cycle of love and betrayal, but they can’t seem to let each other go. Even when Erik chooses violence and chaos, Charles is always there, quietly heartbroken but still hoping.

Their relationship is the emotional core of the X-Men series. It’s messy and tragic, and they’re both too stubborn to admit their feelings, but the love is there. Whether it’s the meaningful glances, the passionate arguments, or the way they never really give up on each other, Charles and Erik are absolutely in love. It’s just that their love language happens to be moral debates and existential angst, lol.

I laughed out loud throughout the whole thing. These two men are so effortlessly funny and fun to watch, and I really hope we get more interviews and videos with the two of them together for season 2 and then for more promotions for season 3 this year.

Ughhh Lee Jung-Jae and Lee Byung-Hun are adorable and have my heartttt at this point.
