How would Death Note go if, everything was the same, except the way that Misa and Light got their notebooks was reversed? So Misa just found hers randomly and Ryuk is her Shinigami. But Light was saved by a Shinigami who was in love with him and gained both their book and their lifespan. And Rem. (Don't ask me why the Shinigami was in love with Light lol)

For the sake of this ask, maybe pretend that Misa doesn't get killed in an alley.

Caveat

I mean, in Light's Kira glory days, the Shinigami in general are all interested in what's happening with him and I can easily imagine one or two becoming enamored with this insane human who's giving them the entertainment of their lives.

Before then, well, Gelus clearly romanticized Misa as he watched her and saw her as a tragic figure in need of saving. She was young, beautiful, had a tragic past with the death of her parents, and he couldn't stand the thought of watching her die at such a young age because of this stalker.

The point being that he only knew of Misa from a distance and liked what he could see looking through a window. Now, Light doesn't have the tragic backstory to attract Gelus's interest, he had a great life before canon started with a family that loved him and a bright future ahead of him, but in theory Gelus could have become fascinated with this seemingly perfect young man who's dying of boredom on the inside and want to save him from his untimely death at the hands of a mugger.

So, sure, why not.

Misa Meets a Death God

Misa picks up the notebook and thinks it has a nice asthetic, Misa being very into gothic lolita, and that while morbid humor is the sort of thing she could have as a prop in her bedroom. Fits right in.

I imagine she doesn't think much about it, doesn't believe it, and that's when Ryuk gets bored actually. The thing with Light was that he waited a bit to see what the person who picked up the notebook would do and that he'd planned to keep dropping it around until someone interesting picked it up.

Ryuk felt thrilled when Light picked it up on the first try and went fucking insane with the death count. Ryuk settled happily in for the ride of his life, watching as Light murdered people in interesting ways and tried to murder that detective.

If Misa's not doing anything, and she's likely not, then Ryuk will take it back from her and try again until he gets someone who is interesting. Even if Misa accidentally killed a person, I don't think she'd have the will or interest to be Kira without Light's prior example. What Light did requires... well... being Light. Misa could become the second Kira because she already idolized Light and he'd made it, in a weird way, culturally acceptable. I imagine Misa might kill the man who'd killed her parents but that would be the end of it.

I imagine Ryuk would end up with a mobster eventually and be very entertained as it's used for inter-gang assassinations. But hold that thought.

Light Meets a Death God

Light, I imagine very shaken from nearly dying, walks away from the incident not sure how to feel then holy shit a god of death has come for him. He panics even harder than he did in canon with Ryuk until Rem explains that Light was saved by a Shinigami that was in love with him and here is his new murder notebook.

Now, the thing about canon, is that Light started in as Kira because a) he at first didn't believe it then killed a man and went "my god" b) he thought he was going to be taken to the underworld so started in killing as many people as he could before Ryuk met up with him. Light had about a day to talk himself into this where he goes from "oh my god I just killed someone" to "only I can kill fucking everyone!". Here, the circumstances are different, he hasn't killed anyone and he doesn't have the motivation to make the most of the notebook before a Shinigami comes for him as Rem is pointedly giving it to him.

I imagine Light mulls over it for a bit, a god literally died for him and gave him this as a gift, how should he use it if at all. I imagine his first instinct, as in canon initially, is not to use it/not to want to be a murderer. Then, however, I imagine he thinks of all the people he believes the world would be better without, a world in which he can get rid of violent crime entirely as an unseen god, and thinks about what the Shinigami saved him from.

Had it not been for Gelus, Light would have died, because a human wanted to stab him.

Then Light's back on the "only I can do this!" murder bus and Rem is... not entirely thrilled with any of this (while Rem pointedly never liked Light I do think it was more than just how dismissive he was of Misa but also that Light was casually making use of the notebook for such extremes).

I imagine Rem sticks around, as Gelus died for this motherfucker, but she doesn't like it.

Canon then proceeds pretty much the same except that L and Light end up in this stalemate in college as Misa doesn't have a Death Note to rock the boat. L can't get any real evidence on Light at all, his attempts to rattle him reveal nothing, and Light in turn can't get L's name and Rem refuses to tell it to him out of principle.

Except, at some point, I imagine Ryuk gets jealous. Why does Rem get this batshit insane human and he keeps having to drop the notebook all over the place? I imagine Ryuk asks Rem to trade, he'll give the kid his notebook, Rem can take Gelus's, and they'll switch so Rem can be with the kind of boring humans she likes and Ryuk can stick with this kid.

Rem of course refuses, as does Light who suspects Ryuk and knows how to bully Rem into doing mostly what he wants, and so I imagine a miffed Ryuk makes things hard for Light/more interesting. I imagine he starts killing people in a way so as to provide L 'evidence' so as to be able to get firmer suspicions of Kira.

A man dies shouting at Light that he's the devil then douses himself in gasoline then lights himself on fire. Another person dies doing the same thing but they throw themselves into a woodchipper.

(L hates that he can't use any of this as evidence not just simply because the entire world's gone mad about Kira anyway but also because these fuckers keep killing themselves before L can ask questions.)

I imagine Light, at his wit's end, agrees to trade with Ryuk but only if Ryuk tells Light L's name. "That's cheating" - Ryuk says as he did in canon (also, Ryuk is having a great time inconveniencing Light).

Death Note becomes a weird thriller comedy in which L is hunting Kira, but The Happening is going on, and Light is trying to find a way to manage Ryuk, Rem, and L all at the same time while also planning L's murder in a way that it makes it look like L just caught The Happening.

1. Otto: I love vampires and dorks and he’s a vampire dork but also so so smart and clever and trying so hard!! He’s such a good guy!!! And he works for it!!! That conversation he has with Vimes in Thud! about how he presents himself as silly and harmless so people won’t be afraid of him! Ahhh 😭🖤 Even when he’s mentioned in passing I always go from 🙂 to 😍🥰 immediately lol

2. Drumknott: the pencil stealing war between him and Moist is adorable 😭 Hyper competent super nerd weirdo I love him. He shows up at the end of G!G! (Iirc) like “I live here now” and everyone including Vetinari is like “yes you do” and he’s there to the end. Good old Drumknott

3. Salzella (from Maskerade): evil. But fuck he was hilarious, the dry sarcasm was right up my alley. I love that bit when they’re talking about how Dr. Undershaft was killed that’s like “something something he was hung” “Hanged. Dead meat is hung, people are hanged.” And Salzella goes “Ah yes? Then he was strangled to death, and then he was hung.” And Mr. Bucket is like “…you have issues :/“ AND IT’S TRUE BUT HE’S FUNNY OK

Aurgh this is hard bc I’m also kinda trying to avoid picking common fan favorites even if they’re technically not protagonists or like borderline not protagonists (like Adora, Ridcully, Cherri, Angua etc) (even though Otto kinda could be said to be protagonist-adjacent by this definition lol) ummm

4. Pin & Tulip: a two-for-one because more than either of them on their own I love their dynamic. Definitely high up there on my best Discworld villains. They contrast and complement each other well.

Also super fun to voice! I’ve recorded a few Discworld books for fun and to force my friend to get into them (lol), and I had a blast doing the voices for these two. Mr. Pin losing it is a super fun character to play ahhh

5. Mr. Bent: he is fascinating. Another one that’s fun to voice. And one of the best twists of any story ever of all time 🤡 I hope he’s very happy with Miss Drapes, or as I head canon her post marriage, Mrs. Bent-Drapes. (This is something I thought of when writing a ficlet of Moist and Adora’s wedding (shameless ao3 plug) as a dumb throwaway joke but now it’s kinda cemented in my brain lol)

The front door to the Slat slammed open and Kaz quickly ushered Jesper and Inej inside—the latter hanging onto the former for support and limping from a deep and bloody gash in her thigh.

"Get her upstairs—"

"Kaz, I'm fine—"

"Should we get—"

All three of their voices, speaking at once, were drowned out by a bellow from the first floor office and the man within it.

“Brekker!" Haskell shouted. "Get your ass in here!”

Kaz shot Jesper a hard and uncompromising look. "Upstairs. Now," he hissed under his breath. The two of them disappeared into the stairwell with quick nods. He didn't miss the way Inej's face contorted in pain; how a slight whine left her lips as she took halting steps forward.

Kaz stepped into Haskell’s office, barely held together restraint kept in every movement. Haskell was not as committed to this show of will.

"Would you like to tell me why the hell the stadwatch was here tearing apart the Slat not one bell ago? What did you do you little skiv?"

"I didn't do anything," Kaz grit out. "I told you we didn't have enough manpower to do this job the right way but you said—"

"Oh, don't try to put words in my mouth."

Kaz took a deep breath and folded his hands over the head of his cane. "Sir," he began, the formality sickly on his tongue, "if I may. This job was set up to go wrong from the start. We're lucky no one took a harder hit. That we didn’t lose anyone.”

When we had first seen Inej stumbling down the alley and coated in blood, he wasn't so sure that would be the case. Even in the dim glow of the street lamps he could see the ashen cast to her face. She’d been moments from dropping before Jesper careened around the corner and scooped her up into his arms, motioning frantically for Kaz to start running.

"The Wraith took a pretty serious hit."

Haskell perked up at that. "She's fine though, yes? I spent a lot of kruge on her and I expect to get my money's worth."

“Yes,” Kaz said too quickly, too confidently. But gnawing fear—fear he hated—settled deep within him. “That remains to be seen,” he corrected. And if she isn’t, I’ll have your head on a pike outside the Exchange.

“Good. Though if she ever can’t work as a spider anymore, at least we know she can make us money on her back,” Haskell said with a wink.

Maybe it was the sting of the Dime Lions and the stadwatch officers they'd paid off getting the drop on them tonight. Or maybe it was the way Jesper had been able to help Inej when he couldn't; when he could only stand there useless, shaking at the thought of another person he lov— he valued losing their life to his folly. But Haskell's words—useless garble he could usually tune out—broke a dam within Kaz.

“If you ever,” he spat viciously, “imply you’ll send her back to a pleasure house again, I’ll make you watch as I feed your shriveled cock and balls to the nearest pack of rats.”

Haskell’s face went slack, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. But it was quickly replaced by a dawning realization that lit up his eyes, clarity replacing the cloudiness of perpetual drink. He looked gleeful.

"Ghezen, boy! You're in love with her, aren't you?" Haskell laughed heartily, slapping a hand on his thigh. "Of course Dirtyhands would fall for his whore. Though I didn’t think you’d have it in you.” His smile was wide and grotesque, a suggestive eyebrow raised on his sweat slicked brow. The room seemed to narrow, the shadows gaining sharper contrast. Haskell continued chuckling to himself.

"She isn't mine and she isn't a whore.” The rasp of Kaz’s voice hid the way it rattled with anger. “She's one of your crew, a Dreg, and I caution you to remember that." It took everything within Kaz to keep his breathing level; his tone stern but placid. He sculpted his face into a wall of impassivity but his blood boiled and churned. If he didn't leave Haskell's office soon, his fist might accidentally find a target in the man before him.

"If it makes you feel any better, I think she's sweet on you too. Though it's always hard to tell with those girls, especially Heleen's. She trains them so well, you know."

Kaz let his cane clatter to the ground and lunged at Haskell—one hand planted firmly on the desk and the other wrapped around his cheap, gaudy tie—and tugged until the older man was half-sprawled on the desk.

"Are you sure this is a conversation you want to have?" He yanked on the tie harder and Haskell made a choked, gurgling noise. "Because I can assure you it'll end with you losing a hell of a lot more blood than Inej has tonight."

Kaz released him with a hard shove, the jarring momentum sending Haskell tumbling backward in his chair and crashing to the ground. Kaz didn't wait for a response, just grabbed his cane from the floor and shoved the door open hard, the hinges groaning with force.

A handful of Dregs stood statue-still in the common room, eyes bulging. He saw Pim open his mouth to say something before Anika promptly smacked him upside the head and pulled him and Rotty away.

The trudge up the stairs was long and laborious, his breath coming in hard pants that weren't entirely from the climb and his aching leg. He paused on the third floor landing outside of Inej's room and heard gentle murmuring coming from the other side of the door. Jesper said something he couldn't catch, and Inej let out a tinkling laugh that made Kaz's heart jump.

He stood frozen, tempted to knock—tempted to burst into her room and see with his own eyes that she was okay, that she forgave him for the night's errors. He didn't.

The warm fireplace distributes its warm heat throughout the Malfoy Manor's dining hall, saving you from the cool winds of spring outdoors. The sounds of a crackling fire, quiet chatters, and sounds of cutlery being used against the delicate china plates plastered with grey floral designs played harmonically in your ear as you kept your eyes glued down on your plate of food, putting on a somewhat neutral face toying around with the contains you've been served without taking a single bite. "Y/N, at around 11pm tomorrow, you'll have to meet me and Narcissa at Sinclair's Weddings at Diagon Alley, it's for your dress fitting" your mother mentioned with a proud smile peeking through her lips, you raised your head up, and face to your right with a confused look watching your Mother takes a bite of her food, "But Mother, we've only been engaged for two weeks?" you asked with suspense trailing behind your voice, "Oh don't be silly Y/N, you and Draco are perfect for each other, it isn't worth waiting any longer," she replies sharing a smile with Narcissa from across the table as Narcissa did vise versa, "And besides everything has been taken care off, like the official date, venue, the food, the guest. You and Draco will love it" she continued. As silence roams back to the dinner table everyone continues to eat, you take a moment to pause and shift your gaze across the table to the blonde boy, focusing his pair of striking grey eyes solely on his food keeping his mouth shut and his head low.

You watched as he eyed down his food, showing no interest in anyone else taking a mouthful bite. Draco Lucius Malfoy goes far beyond your earliest memories of Hogwarts, known to be a bully and a Slytherin prince he paints a picture of himself as a snob and vile evil person, yet cowardice who enjoys taunting others for his own amusement, he gets anything and everything he wants no matter the circumstances as well. You kept to yourself most of the time during your Hogwarts years as a quiet and reserved Ravenclaw, having friends from all 4 houses and not favoring one over the other, you treated everybody equally, overlooking their blood status despite your family's belief, in 4th year however you've taken fond of Ronald Weasley who came from a pure-blooded yet poor family, you started dating him for 2 years but you don't find it easy in the slightest, as constant tournament form Draco swarms over you and Ron, he'd make snarky comments about you and the blood traitor as he calls him. Regular filthy stares came from Draco if you and Ron would show any amount of affection towards each other, because if it wasn't the harsh/shameful comments or filthy stares, Draco always finds another way to break whatever the two of you had.

"So I take it you'll be coming to my manor tomorrow night, make sure you put on that royal blue slip-on dress you always wear, you know the one with the sweetheart neckline, I find it quite alluring" Draco commented as he circle you with his minions chuckling, giving you a smirk and a playful wink. Ron stares in confusion between the two of you, realizing what had just happened you hold on to Ron's wrist, dragging him away quickly from the trio making sure you master up the dirtiest look you can give to the blonde boy, bumping his shoulder as you walk past fiercely drowning the sounds of wicked laughter behind you down. After the past event, Ron grew suspicious and demanded answers to what Draco meant earlier, not wanting to argue with your then-boyfriend you had no choice but to reveal a secret that nobody else knew about, "Ron, please just listen to me... The Malfoys and The Callahan have always been a close-knit group due to their mutual obsession over blood purity. Malfoy's mother and mine happen to be best of friends ever since their Hogwarts years, we have dinner parties with the Malfoys once every fortnight, that's all he meant by that...and since Christmas break is coming up, Draco and I will be home so it seems to be the perfect opportunity to have one in awhile... that's all I promise," you pleaded with guilt. Learning that information made Ron angry, as he decided to keep himself from you for days after that.

3 days have passed since Ron has last spoken to you, growing tired of his ignorance, you march up to the Slytherin table angrily, you scan the Slytherin table for a bleach-blonde head full of hair, and as you spot him you dash right over "Can I talk to you for a minute?" You ask, crossing your arm in frustration, matching the facial expression you displayed. Draco smirks, wasting no time and trails behind you as he leaves his group of unbothered Slytherins. You both settled outside the quiet hallway, leaving the great hall behind before you converse, "Malfoy, I really don't appreciate the comment you made 3 days ago... I mean, what are you honestly trying to do? Can't you see I'm happy?" you huffed out in frustration looking up at the tall figure, as his grey eyes pierced down at your small frame, he paused taken aback by your frustration before scoffing "What am I trying to do?... What am I trying to do? you're really asking that Callahan? he's a blood traitor. You can do so much better than that filthy Gryffindor... when are you going to realize your family would never accept him for who he is" he commented, without realizing how close he was getting to you, you backed up into the stone-cold wall, keeping eye contact with him, as he rests one of his hand on the wall by your head pinning you down.

Tensions spike up high between the two of you as your body comes closer and closer together. "When are you going to realize that your happiness could be right in front of you this whole time?" Draco blurted leaning his soft face closer to you and tilting his head, your cheek changed its shade into crimson red before you broke eye contact hearing footsteps walking away to your left cutting the tight tension, you watched as your loving boyfriend stormed away from what he'd seen, You panicked as he kept going never to look back at you, "Ron...Ron come back" you pleaded, pushing Draco away from you as you run after the Weasley boy leaving Malfoy on his own. The next day Ron breaks it off with you quick, for the very first time you feel as though you aren't worthy of any happiness as your heartbreak drives you into despair, you miss out on meals, frequently find yourself sobbing, and eventually watch as Ron fell in love with Hermione, from that day on you swore to yourself that you despise and hated Draco Malfoy and you will never change your mind about him. The sudden flashback made you fidgety as you smoothed out your old silky royal blue, slip-on dress. The one you've had since you were a teenager not having grown much physically making it fit you like a glove. After dinner has ended, you join your family in expressing their gratitude for the delicious meal and farewells to the Malfoys, completely ignoring Draco as he seems to do with you anyway. You embrace your future mother-in-law Narcissa warmly as she does vice versa and give your future father-in-law Lucious a firm yet polite smile as he smiles back and nods to show his understanding.

Dobby the house elf clicked his finger towards the grand, wooden double door to open it revealing an exit point for you, and your parents finally departing away from the Malfoy manor as you Apparate back to your own mansion, located not far from your fiancé's, ending the night in a blur as you quickly try and sleep it off in order to mentally prepare yourself for the dress fitting your mother and your mother in law has so wonderfully booked and plan. After the battle of Hogwarts took place in 1998 you went back to Hogwarts to finish your 7th year around the same time as Hermione Granger did, making sure you have all the qualifications needed to find the best job that the Wizarding World offers, even if a job isn't necessary for you to have because of the amount money your family has inherited over generations. During the battle of Hogwarts, you weren't actually present at all, since Narcissa warns your mother about the secret attack and plans that the Dark Lord schemes for Potter and how dangerous this war is, so she advised your mother to keep you home and not let you return for your 7th year, and although Narcissa isn't supportive of the Dark Lord at all she is supportive of her Husband and Son, so she has to be present there, but it doesn't mean she can't warn her best friend, your mother, and her family to stay safe and not partake in the war whatsoever and to let it pass you. So that's what your mother and father agreed on doing, keeping you home after explaining the circumstances to you.

Your eyes started to glimmer as salty tears started to fog up your vision, you were distraught by the news and realized that the people you care about over at Hogwarts like your friends and some of the professors who had made a real impact on you might potentially lose their lives over this war. You wanted to help badly, you wanted to be there to protect the ones you care about, but your parents will never allow it as they fear the worst and might end up losing their one and only child, so you slump and cry over it for days in your grand mansion until you've heard the news a week later that most people have survived the war including the Malfoy's and that the Dark Lord was finally conquered. It took a while, but Hogwarts was rebuilt soon after that, and once September rolled back around Hogwarts was ready to bring in young witches and wizards who were ready to embark on their early education, and even welcome those who were not able to finish their last year back with open arms. You studied hard and kept very much focused on all your classes to the point where your NEWT marks show only Outstanding grades all across, simply showering your parents with great pride and joy to have you as their daughter. This time around you sort of hated the idea of leaving school after graduating, Hogwarts was a nicer and much simpler place without some knucklehead like Draco Malfoy running around taunting people or trying to pull your pisser almost every day to annoy and ruin your schooling experience.

You enjoyed your time at Hogwarts without him, but you do tend to wonder if he was alright, or how he's doing or coping after the war. Your mother and father haven't gotten in touch with the Malfoy for a couple of months now as they went into hiding in their own mansion and kept quiet to themselves, laying low in order to keep them from trouble with the Ministry as they potentially find out the ties that the Malfoy family had with the Dark Lord, so for a while, there weren't many connections between the Callahan's and the Malfoy's, a period of time where you enjoyed life as it is because the one person you truly despise and hated is gone from your life, just like you wanted it too.

How Does it Feel to Read Classic Sci-Fi?

Orson Scott Card: Two of the most interesting books you’ll ever read if you’re willing to look past a handful of things. And then you find the planet of Chinese people who worship having debilitating OCD. And the Mormonism. And the fact that the author is wildly homophobic and ought to read his own books.

Robert Heinlein (or at least the Wikipedia Summaries): I guess that’s a neat concept—oh, it’s a sex thing. Um. Gotcha.

Ray Bradbury: Man, I gotta read this thing for class huh. Well here’s hoping it’s good! *three hours later* oh. that’s why he’s famous. this will stick with me forever and I will never look at the phrase ‘soft rain’ the same again. christ. And then repeat 3x.

Isaac Asimov: Wow, this is such an interesting concept! I wonder how the exploration of it will influence the plot! Wait, hey, are you going to add any characters? Any of em? No like, with character traits other than ‘robot psychologist’ and ‘autistic’ and ‘woman’? None of em? No, ‘detective’ isn’t a character trait. Those are all just facts. Aaaand now I’m bored.

Omega Squad Headcanons

A/N: I'm still not convinced I'm great at HCs lol. But here are my inner thoughts for the Omega boys. I miss them always. And love them with my entire heart and soul!

Warnings: 18+ Always. Minors DNI; Some Fluff, some smut. A little mixture.

Niner bought a ring right after your first date. He was in love and prepared to settle down right then and there. 

Atin and Fi gave him so much shit for months. 

When Niner proposed, you obviously said yes. But you also knew because Fi is TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. 

Niner is a “my wife” kind of guy. Talks about you ALL the time. Never shuts up about you.

You take the lead a lot. The first time he saw you fully naked, he nearly cried because he thought you were a literal angel.

Fi, though… He didn’t think he’d ever get to settle down. Honestly, he wasn’t even sure he wanted to settle down until he met you. 

Your ability to crack jokes and keep up with his humor nearly brought him to his knees.

Darman still teases Fi that you’re funnier. 

The first time you ever made him laugh, all three of his brothers kept giving him knowing smirks but he tried his best to ignore them. 

One night, the two of you were sitting on the edge of a building, overlooking Coruscant, one of Fi’s favorite views, only second to you, you were teasing each other and the way you looked at him, gave him courage to finally kiss you. 

“Atin and Darman have a running bet that you wouldn’t ever get the courage to do that.” You look up at him, amused.

“I hope you bet on my side.” He acts scandalized. 

You chuckle and hop up. “I always bet on the winning side.” 

He smirks to himself for a minute and then glances after you. “That means you bet on me, right?” 

You bite your lip with a chuckle as Fi gets up to follow you.

“...Right?” He asks again and you burst into a fit of giggles.  

You and Atin argue a lot. Not in a toxic way. But in a both stubborn kind of way. Atin does mean stubborn in Mando’a, afterall. 

The first time you fuck, it’s in a back alley because he dragged you back there to argue away from the group. 

But you ended up kissing him and he pushed you up against the wall and then deepened the kiss and made you get yourself worked up, grinding on his thigh. 

When he kissed you back, you laughed and said “I knew it.” to which he responded “Shut up. No you did not.” And then fucked you. 

Darman was intimidated by you when he first met you. 

You argued with Atin on his behalf one time and he saw stars in his eyes.

While he can definitely hold his own, he was touched that you came to his defense.

When you finally told him how you felt, he felt like his brain was short circuiting.

“Are… are you sure?” He tilts his head.

“Yes, I’m sure.” You smile at him and his entire body goes warm and fuzzy. “Do… you like me?” 

“I do. Very much.”
