you were freshly graduated from college; you should be spending your last summer as a non working adult having fun with your friends— hell doing an internship for your future company; anything really, anything would be better than this. because instead of doing any of that; you were stuck going to the middle of wherever emptying out your dead grandparents mansion.
“I didn't know the lady.” you tried to complain about it to your parents. “Mommy, this was your parents, why can't you do it?” your mother and her mother; your grandmother, never really got along growing up; your grandmother never approved of your father, so it put a strain on their relationship, which resulted in your mother moving out and moving to the city. She then married your dad and had you a year later.
you met your grandmother; well your grandmother met you, because your eyes were barely open, having been on earth a month when your mom came back home so your grandparents could meet their only grandchild, your mom told you that was the last time you saw your grandparents— they did send christmas presents, and birthday cards with a hefty check in it. “I didn't know anything about her except she was extremely generous when it came to money.”
your grandfather passed when you were five, that was the last time your mother went back, for his funeral. Instead of going into a home, your grandmother chose to stay in the huge home; by herself and live out the rest of her days, which she did; she died in her room, being found by her caretaker in the early morning.
The funeral was small; and you were being nice by saying that— it was only you and your mother; your father didn't bother to show, the lady didn't like him. Why would he bother? After putting her in the ground next to her husband, your mother was ready to put that part of her life to rest finally… that was until you got her will in mail.
“Everything?” your mouth hung open. “She's giving you everything? I thought she hated you?” your mother scoffed. “she didn't really have a choice, she cut all her family off; and she would rather be buried with the money than to give it to a charity.” your mother said. “at least she left you some.” she pointed. “to my granddaughter— she couldn't even remember your name.”
That's how your parents were able to retire early, with the huge settlement of money and new house, they decided to settle down and live out the rest of their days in solitude. “So why can't you do it?” you said, your mother turned to you as seriously as ever. “she died in that house, she was a spiteful woman, the type to find a way to become a ghost just to haunt me just in case I brought your father in the house” she said. “I want you to go up there and clear it of all her things and then we'll be up there in the early fall.”
That's how you found yourself driving up the extra long driveway to the huge mansion; the vines growing up the walls really added to the ghostly aesthetic. “she had a caretaker but not a gardener?” you parked right in front of the house, getting out of the car. “This house is scary.”
“Girl, we're having so much fun!” Your friend, Yeji, yelled into the phone. “really?” you said sarcastically. “I could totally hear you over the blasting music in the background.” you heard her giggle, before she told you to hold on. “Okay I'm alone.” The low music confirmed that. “Did you make it up there safely?”
You settled on a room, it was huge much like the rest of the house, unpacking the clothes you would need for the rest of the summer. “Is the house nice? Does it come with a pool?” You scoffed; “this house was made in the 1600’s , no it doesn't have a pool.” you said. “and it's okay, if you like creepy dim lighting and cold hallways even though it's 84 degrees outside.”
“Yikes.” she said, you nodded. “Yeah, this lady was loaded, but god did she not have any taste.” your face turned up in disgust. “Hopefully my parents will brighten this place up when they get here.”
After talking to yeji a bit, you let her go back to the party; at least one of you could enjoy the summer— meanwhile you had to find someone to eat. You weren't stupid the town was like a 30 minute drive out, so you made sure to pick up enough groceries to last you at least a week on your way here. Looking through the options, you settled on ramen; cause there was no way you were cooking anything else after a 5 hour long drive.
taking your bowl of noodles, making your way back to the room, you pass the many portraits of your mother as a child and a teenager— for your mother and grandmother to never get along, there surely were many; after making it back to your room, sitting the bowl on the nightstand.
Unfortunately there was no wifi, but you had data so that was good; you'd definitely had to change that wifi situation soon though, your mother was just obsessed with the Internet as you, there was no way she was coming here without it. Eating your noodles, scrolling through the stories with envy in your eyes, of all your friends enjoying their summers.
After finishing your food, and making yourself depressed; you decided to just go to bed, and start fresh in the morning— where you actually had to clean out her things.
The next morning you woke up at 11:30 feeling a little better than before, starting your day with a shower since you didn't have one in the morning; stripping yourself of your clothes, stepping into the warm shower, letting the water hit your skin, you let out a sigh of satisfaction; at least the water made you feel better.
after cleaning yourself; getting rid of yesterday, you stepped out of the shower, the foggy mirror in front of you. turning around to turn the water off— you turned around to face the mirror again. “what the fuck.” squinting your eyes, you rubbed them. certainly that wasn't a fucking person in the mirror. You quickly wrapped a towel around your body, wiping the fog off the mirror, your own reflection still there. “Great, not even 24 hours later and I'm already going nuts.”
You got dressed; deciding to finally tour the house— it was beautiful, despite the haunted nature of it; the furniture a bit outdated for your taste, but your parents will love it. you made your way to her bedroom; almost scared to go in— she died in there anyone would be scared. you pushed your worries aside, pushing the door open; walking inside.
The bed had been made after her passing, but everything else was still in the same place according to the caretaker. You started by stripping everything from the bed, throwing the sheets in the trash, emptying all her drawers; your mom said you could keep any jewelry she had, and she'll give the rest away to your cousins on your father's side. you then moved to her closet, separating all the clothes that you were keeping and the ones you were giving away, and finally the ones that you were tossing.
About 2 hours later you were done separating everything, putting the donation boxes in your car to take into town, throwing the clothes in the trash at the end of the long driveway. you kept a lot of things, turns out she kept a lot of clothes and her style wasn't that bad. “I’m gonna need a new suitcase.” you said to yourself.
You scrubbed everything down in her room; per your mothers request. “Yes mommy, I got rid of her ghost.” You rolled your eyes when she called to ask. “Great, is everything else okay?” you hummed. “Well despite the no wifi and being completely alone, yes.” You said. “Well we're still trying to sell here, we've found a realtor.” you let her go on and on, until she'd managed to talk for 2 straight hours— your stomach rumbling being the thing to interrupt the conversation. “Gosh love , have you eaten today?”
“I had some yogurt for breakfast.” you could hear her sigh. “It's 5:30 y/n and all you've eaten was yogurt?” She questioned. “Well I've been busy cleaning up your mothers home.” You said, she laughed. “Thank you, my daughter.” you mocked her. “Seriously honey, get yourself something to eat, I will call again.” you hummed. “And don't leave those clothes in your car, take them to the goodwill.” you nodded. “okay.” you hung up. “Really let's get you something to eat.”
After showering for the nights— luckily your eyes didn't create delusions this time, you settled on ordering take out, luckily someone was willing to bring you a pizza. “Thank you.” You handed the delivery guy the money. “Is this your new house?” he looked up. “My parents.” you said, he handed you the pizza box. “Scary.” was all he said before walking away. “Yeah.” You closed the door.
Taking your pizza back to your room; you almost made it back to your room— when you noticed the door to your grandmother's room was still open. “Hmm?” You were certain you closed it, you went to close it— but something caught your eyes on the dresser. It was a jewelry box. you don't remember putting that there; you don't even remember seeing it before.
You picked up the box, taking it with you to your room; sitting it on the nightstand. You finished your pizza; making an appointment on your phone to have wifi installed. “Sorry grandma, you might've lived in silence, but I need tv.” You finished the last bit of pizza, taking the box to the kitchen, returning back to your room, climbing under the covers; the wooden jewelry box still sitting on the nightstand.
You reached over, grabbing the box; it looked pretty old. You stopped admiring the details on the box; opening it. A thin silver necklace with a red and black pendant sitting in the box; it was the only thing in the box. You picked up the necklace, examining it. The necklace was beautiful, probably the prettiest piece that you took from your grandmother— yes of course you were gonna keep it, you wouldn't dare let your destructive ass cousins destroy something as beautiful as this. “Thank you grandma.”
You sat the box in between your legs, unhooking the necklace, placing it around your neck, snapping it. “Let's see.” you picked the box up, looking into the mirror. “So pretty.” You smiled, closing the box, sitting it back on the nightstand, yawning.
reaching over; you turned the light off; pulling the covers over your body, touching the pendant one last time before you fell into a deep sleep…
So unaware of what you had just done; who you just awakened, what you just invited into your life…

☆ sunghoon x reader ; It was August 31st, and you were heading back home tomorrow because of school. Unfortunately, sleep didn't come easily. Your mind kept replaying all the memories you had with Sunghoon this summer, except for one. The one you'll be making tonight with the help of his camera. “Fly through the deep night to you. In the thick darkness, I will hold you again”
Tumblr media
After all that time at university, you were finally ready to travel somewhere. Somewhere you could unwind and leave all your stress from the past few months behind. You considered traveling to a new city or even a country, which seemed like a great idea. However, you didn't have anyone to travel with because your friends had other commitments during the summer. That's when you saw your grandparents coming in sight. You don't get to see them often since they live far away, but you figured it was time for a visit. After all, you went to Hawaii when you were just 10 years old. You really missed your grandparents, but video calling was a great way to keep in touch with them.
That night, you discussed the idea with your parents and purchased the tickets for yourself. In less than a week, you had packed everything you needed into two suitcases and one bag. You brought at least five bikinis and planned to buy more when you got to your destination. You pictured yourself going to the beach every day, making new friends, learning new dances, putting flowers in your hair, drinking coconut water, and doing other fun things. This was all you could think about while you were on the plane.
Tumblr media
When you arrived, you first met your grandmother and then your grandfather, who walked behind your grandmother with a beautiful flower lei. They were more than happy to meet you. You received many compliments and hugs from them, which made you happier than ever.
On the ride home, you rolled down the car windows and put your hands out to feel the air hit your fingers and blow your hair. The first surprise to you was the house where your grandparents parked. You didn't understand where you were. You remembered that there was a normal, cute white house with a balcony and a garden in the back, but this house was almost the opposite. At the entrance, it was kind of the same, but there were trees in front of it, so you couldn't see much from the house. When you walked in, you were shocked. The house was huge! Everything was much bigger than before, there was even a pool in the backyard, not to mention the ocean view right behind it. Your bedroom also had a window overlooking the ocean, so you could admire it every time you were there. Your grandmother bought you some bikinis, straw hats and dresses. They were so pretty and you couldn't wait to wear them while you stayed here.
Tumblr media
The other day, just before you sat down to eat, a sudden ringing of the bell interrupted you as you were putting the food on the table. Your grandmother went to see who it was, and you continued your task.
"Grandma, who was that?" -when you looked up, she wasn't alone; a boy was standing next to her.
Your eyes widened for a moment at how handsome he was. Jet black hair and deep brown eyes. He was quite tall and slim, yet muscular. You didn't want to be weird, so you looked away. You assumed he was just some neighbor's son asking for something, but your grandmother proved you wrong.
"Y/n do you remember Sunghoon?" -she asked in a soft voice.
"Uhmm, yeah? The boy who was my best friend when I was little, right?"
"Yes, oh you remember. That's good to hear, Y/n" -she became so happy.
"But why are you asking me this now, when we have a guest? What's up with him? Is he doing well?" -you put the silverware next to the plates.
"Why don't you ask him?"
"Come on Grandma, I haven't seen him for ages and I don't even know where he lives anymore. How could I ask him anything?" -A long silence remained between the two of you, and you realized that you could be so stupid to say such things when Park Sunghoon himself stood right in front of you.
"Oh..." -all words stuck in your mouth.
"It's good to see you again Y/n! I missed you a lot!" -he stepped forward and gave you a big hug.
"Oh...Sunghoon...yeah it's nice to see you too!" -you hugged him back, still processing who you had just met.
Sunghoon was your best friend. Or is he still yours? You were not sure.
Tumblr media
He, you and your 3 other friends formed a group of friends when you were little. There was nothing to do in the summer and your parents always worked, so you came here every summer and met these amazing people. Unfortunately, your friends moved to another country and you lost touch because you were little, but Sunghoon stayed and the last summer you were here in Hawaii, it was just the two of you, just like now.
Tumblr media
He didn't stay for lunch, even though your grandmother tried to convince him, but it might be a good choice. It would be a lot for you at first. Still, you were so curious about Sunghoon. What happened to him over the years, how is he doing, does he have a girlfriend, what's up with his family and things like that. Wait, why did you care if he had a girlfriend?! Anyway, you went out to think about your feelings, accompanied by a tasty strawberry mocktail. You sat there for hours until you fell asleep and the only thing on your mind was Sunghoon.
Tumblr media
The next day, you woke up in your room. Out of nowhere, you got up and went to your window to look at the sea, just in time for the sunrise. You were amazed by the beautiful sight when someone came into your sight. You immediately recognized that it was him, Sunghoon. He was sitting on the sand watching the sunrise just like you. Thinking that there was no reason to wait any longer, you wanted to talk to him and decided to go outside. You changed into your white bikini and wore a long white dress over it. You brushed your hair and did your morning routine in the bathroom. Then, as quietly as possible, you went out of the house and looked for Sunghoon. He was still sitting on the sand, wearing a white t-shirt and black pants. He was so good-looking you forgot that and also how much you loved him. You pushed your thoughts away and sat down next to him. He looked at you and smiled softly, then turned his gaze back to the sky.
After a few minutes, he finally began to talk to you. The two of you forgot about time and sat there until lunch. That day, he had lunch with you and was still talking about what had happened in the past years. You couldn't even remember the last time you felt this happy and free, but you knew that this feeling was everything to you and you didn't want it to end.
Tumblr media
2 days later, Sunghoon asked you to go swimming in the late afternoon and you agreed. It was so much fun, you joked a lot and dived into the water where you saw beautiful fish and plants. As time passed, you felt more and more attracted to him. Sometimes you went out for dinner, coffee, and there were nights when you went out dancing hula and other dances. Some days you went swimming in the morning and some days you went swimming at night. You felt that Sunghoon must feel the same way because he showed you signs. Every other day, he would bring you a flower to put in your hair, making you blush every time. He took care of you and always brought happiness and a smile to your face.
One night when you went swimming, the two of you became closer. He kissed you for the first time. To be honest, you have been waiting for this moment since you were little and it finally happened. Sunghoon admitted that he felt the same and was ready to take steps towards you, but you stopped to come here. Yes, it was painful for both of you to bury your feelings in your hearts. But it was over and you were free to live your love lives this time. Your grandparents were incredibly happy for you both. They always knew how much you loved each other from the beginning, and they often invited him over for dinner, a day at the pool, or just to be with you. After a month, Sunghoon started sneaking into your room and spending the night with you. Those nights were your favorite because the way he made you feel had the power to make the whole world stand still for you.
Tumblr media
All the love you had for each other, you couldn't describe what it did to your heart. And now it was the opposite of what you felt all these months. You just cried at the dinner table and felt that your heart was breaking because you knew that tomorrow morning Sunghoon wouldn't hold you in his arms, you wouldn't go swimming anymore, you wouldn't watch the sunrise anymore, you wouldn't see the lust in his eyes for you, you wouldn't be able to kiss his red lips anymore. At least for a year. It can be easy for someone, but not for you, you hated the idea of spending the days apart and you weren't ready for tomorrow.
Your grandparents tried to comfort you, but the tears didn't stop pouring from your eyes. The best idea was to go to sleep, but the moment you saw your suitcases ready to travel back to your hometown, it started again. Slowly you lay down on your bed and stared at the ceiling for hours because sleep didn't come easily. To be honest, you didn't even want to sleep because tomorrow would come faster and you didn't want that.
Tumblr media
Before midnight, you heard your window open. It was Sunghoon.
"My love" - he said
"Sunghoon, what are you doing here?" -you ran to him and hugged him as tightly as ever.
"I know we talked about meeting tomorrow before you go back, but I couldn't be without you tonight Y/n" -he kissed your cheek.
"Do you know how much I cried today? I can't lose you Sunghoon" -tears started to form in your eyes for the nth time tonight.
"Baby, don't cry. It will only get worse. Look, I brought a camera for tonight."
"A camera?"
"Yeah, I was thinking about making a recording tonight. How do you feel about that?"
"How could we forget? That is a perfect idea baby. Let's do it." -you kissed him.
The next second, he put the camera down and started recording while you closed your door.
You kissed Sunghoon hungrily and he returned the kiss. You sucked on his tongue while his hands roamed all over your hot body. Goose bumps formed on your skin as his hands passed over every part of you. Soft moans left your mouth between wet kisses. He moved his left hand under your thigh and lifted your leg a little. You knew what he was going to do so you jumped and crossed your legs on his waist. He moved over to your bed and gently laid you down on the mattress. His kisses went from your lips to your jaw to your neck. You felt a little pain, but it was a good kind of pain. You assumed he was marking you and it made you feel even more lustful. His fangs would certainly leave deeper marks on you, but in no time his fingers traced the inside of your thigh. Sunghoon touched the hem of your dress and pulled your nightgown all the way up over your head. Revealing your already hardened nipples, he only reacted with a smile. He went back to your lower part, surprising you with his finger pressing against your clit over the fabric. "You're already so wet, baby. Let me make you feel better." He gave you a kiss on the lips before pulling off your white panties, which were a little stuck to your folds from the wetness. "You're so beautiful, sweetheart," he whispered before kissing your pussy as he grabbed your waist to keep you still. You felt his tongue doing all the tricks down there, making you tremble and scream inside for his touch. You closed your eyes and soon you felt Sunghoon put two fingers inside your pussy. Slowly he moves them in and out, making you see just starting from this. He watched your every move, all the sounds you made and he couldn't wait to hear your screams. To kiss you while you moan so loudly from the pleasure he gives to you. Sunghoon couldn't wait any longer and stripped off all his clothes. He positioned himself at your entrance and kissed you deeply the moment he pushed himself inside you.
Your folds take him so well that you have to cry out from pleasure. Making Sunghoon's wishes come true. "Don't hold back your beautiful voices Y/n" and right after that you let out a loud moan, hoping that your grandparents are asleep and don't hear anything from your room. Sunghoon just pushed himself deeper and deeper into you with a grin on his bitten lips.
"Sunghoon...mhhm"
"Tell me baby what you want"
"Please..." -you couldn't form a word anymore, just mewing nonstop.
The sounds of your skin, the kisses, the shallow breathing heightened all your senses. You buried your head in the pillows and felt like you were going to cum any second.
"Ahh.. Y/n. You feel so good." -He rolled back his eyes.
A few more thrusts and you came at the same time. His release filled you completely and as he pulled down he was covered with your white release as well. Sunghoon's muscles flexed and he collapsed next to you, sweat dripping from his face. Loud breaths filled the heated room and you could feel the cold night wind on your naked bodies. But it didn't matter, because after you had cleaned up, you were safe and sound in your lover's arms. You felt his breath on your shoulder and his heartbeat on your body. You didn't want this to be over, so you looked at Sunghoon for a few minutes after he fell asleep, capturing this moment in your mind forever.
Tumblr media
You woke up early since it was time to go to the airport. Sunghoon was still in your bed but he was up as well. You went down to have a quick breakfast which your grandma made for you, and after he noticed Sunghoon he made another serving for him as well. Your suitcases were in the car and it was time to go. Still, you and Sunghoon were sitting on the sofa, watching the ocean view while making out.
As slowly as possible, you reached the car and Sunghoon gave you a gift bag which he insisted you open when you arrived home.
“My one and only love, please don’t cry too much. I’ll wait for you as much as it takes. I would wait for you until the end of the time because my heart belongs to you forever. Please smile a lot and call me everytime you want, I’ll be here for you Y/n! I’ll love you until the day that I die. Even after that I’ll love you. Here’s a flower for today as well” -he put the pink hibiscus in your hair. The same one he gave to you the first time- “You are the most beautiful human being in my eyes, take care, until we meet again.” -he held your hands and kissed you deeply.
“Sunghoon…” -you touched the flower and started to cry- “Thank you so much for everything, I’ll be back before you know it because life without you will be misery. I love you with all my heart until the end of time. I’ll always love you Park Sunghoon” -you pulled him in for another kiss and then waved him goodbye from the car. The two of you held back your tears but after you drove away you both broke down. You cried as much as you could until you got on your plane and he went back to work.
Tumblr media
After a long flight and car ride, you were finally in your room. You put the flower from your hair into a glass box and then checked your messages. Of course, Sunghoon had already sent a lot of messages, but your eyes stayed on the video notification. You knew what was in the video and you couldn't wait to watch it. Before you opened it, you remembered what Sunghoon asked you to do. Open the gift.
Fighting back tears, you opened it. There was a T-shirt sprayed with his perfume, a white plush bunny, and a letter. You didn't hesitate to open it, only to find a ticket from Hawaii to your city with Park Sunghoon's name on it.

Prompt: A and B try to figure out who can make the other person blush first/the hardest.
Pairing: RosieLemmons
[I didn't hit the prompt exactly, but I made them both blush a couple of times. Consider this a missing scene to There's a Part of You Always Standing By (Mapping Out a Sky.]
Robert tells Ken all about his family during the war. His parents live in a two-story house with his grandparents and his sister. Robert had only recently begun looking for his own apartment before he signed up for the war. Ken had smiled at his stories, liking how similar it sounded to his own life. Except he's from a farmhouse that looks off-center because rooms have been added as needed over the years. But he grew up with his parents and grandparents and siblings all in one house, too, so getting grabbed by the face by Rosie's mom the first time he meets her makes him beam.
"Mrs. Rosenthal, it's a pleasure," he says.
"It's Ma, and you know it," she says and shakes his face between her hands. "Oh, you're so cute my boy must have blushed like a new rose the first time he saw you."
"Ma," Robert groans.
"The photo doesn't do you a bit of justice," she adds, dropping her hands from Ken's face and ushering him to a wall of photos. On the wall in a shiny new frame is the photo Robert and Ken had taken after Robert had surprised him with the camera. Robert in his uniform, Ken in his coveralls. They look like themselves, Ken thinks, but he knows better not to say it. Mothers like to say things like how handsome you are when they meet you in person.
"Well, it almost does Robert justice," Ken replies.
"You be quiet, too," Robert says and grabs for Ken's waist to pull him close. "I'll kiss you 'til you're pinker than me."
"Dare you," Ken murmurs as Ma laughs and walks out of the living room.
Robert gives him an amused look, and drops a smacking kiss to his cheek. "You're more trouble now than on base, I think."
"Well, you married me, so you're stuck now," Ken replies and loves the way Robert looks at him, eyes soft and smile wide.
"Oh, there you are!" Matilda shouts as she walks into the living room. She beams at Ken. "It's so nice to see you again!"
"You, too," Ken replies.
"What about me?" Robert jokes.
Matilda glances at him and shrugs. "You I've seen plenty," she says.
Ken snickers when Robert squawks in faux-outrage and threatens to tickle her. Matilda threatens to pop him one, and Ken enjoys the show as they taunt each other while Matilda leads them both into the dining room.
Robert's grandparents have serious faces that remind Ken of his granny, though they look different in every other way. He's never seen his granny in anything fancier than the dark blue dress she keeps for important events. She'd worn it to Ken's grandpa's funeral and also to his courthouse wedding to Robert a few weeks ago. The moment the guests had left the house after the post-wedding celebration, she'd changed into her usual faded floral dress and put her hair back into its long braid.
Robert's grandparents, on the other hand, are wearing older clothes like his granny, but his grandmother is in pastels, and his grandfather in a clean, white shirt and dark green slacks. His grandmother's hair is set in a careful upknot, and his grandfather's hair is combed into a careful shape so his curls stay at the back of his head.
"This is Ken," Robert says to his grandparents. "Ken, my grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Matas Rosenthal."
"Lovely to meet you," Ken says, offering his hand to Robert's grandfather. He relaxes a little when Matas takes his hand without hesitation and gives it a good shake.
"Robbie says you're going to keep working with your hands," Matas says. "That's good work."
"Thank you, Sir," Ken says. He glances at Robert's grandmother. She's smiling at him. "Ma'am," he says.
"Camilla," she replies. "What did you work on before those big planes?"
"Farm equipment, mostly," Ken says as Robert leads him around the table and holds out a chair for him to sit.
"I worked on my family's farm as a girl," Camilla says. "I was very good with carburetors."
"A deft hand on sewing machines as well," Matas says. "That's how we met."
"I'd moved to the city to get better wages," Camilla says with an ease that tells Ken they've told this story many times. It makes him smile. "Matas created the patterns for the suits. I got into an argument with him one day about what fabric he wanted to use because I knew the machines couldn't handle it."
"I thought she was wrong," Matas picks up the story. "So, I made her prove it. The needle snapped halfway through the first seam, and the machine smoked as if to call me a fool."
"It made you see sense, and it took no time to fix," Camilla replies, patting his arm. "The screw on the arm had been pushed out by the force of the work. Common problem. I had it fixed in no time flat."
"And I was in love," Matas says, smiling at her.
Ken glances at Robert and feels soft at how happy he looks watching his grandparents tell this story. "That's a great meeting," Ken says. "I was just up in some landing gear and Robert came to look at his fort."
"And then the most handsome man I'd ever seen jumped out, and I was in love," Robert replies.
Camilla and Matas chuckle. "Oh, there's so many ways to fall in love," Matas says. "It took us a little more time."
There's the sound of the front door opening and closing, then a booming voice calls out, "Is this house suddenly empty?"
"Ken's finally here, Papa!" Matilda calls from the kitchen off of the dining room.
"Oh, well, then I'll come to you!"
"He's this dramatic every evening and knew we were arriving today," Robert murmurs.
"It's nice," Ken says. He leans against Robert as the younger Mr. Rosenthal walks into the room. He's wearing a nice suit and has a large mustache. His eyes are as blue as Robert's, but his is rounder. Robert pops up from the table to meet his father in a hug, and Ken likes how much they both smile. He stands up from his chair so he's prepared for proper introductions.
"Oh, welcome home again, my beautiful son" Mr. Rosenthal says to Robert. He pats Robert's cheek, then turns and kisses Ma as she walks over to him. "My beautiful wife," he says, then leans down to kiss Matilda on the top of her head. "My beautiful daughter." He walks over to his parents and kisses each of them on the cheek. "My beautiful parents." And then he stops a few feet from Ken and holds out his hand. "And my beautiful son."
"Sir," Ken replies, shaking his hand. "It's an honor."
"Johann," he says. "Or Papa."
"Ken or Kenny's fine by me," Ken says in reply.
"Ken fits fine," Papa says. He pulls Ken into a one-armed hug and gives him a shake. "After dinner, I'm going to pull out some letters our Robbie sent and make sure you know how he loves you."
Ken laughs even as he feels a blush take over. "My sister did that to me," he says. "Made me sit there while Robert got an earful."
"It was great," Robert replies, and he's blushing, too. "I'm happy to return the experience."
"I already feel at home," Ken says because it's true. Robert's smile makes his own widen. "House full of good smells and everyone sitting down to dinner."
"You're after my mother's heart with talk like that," Papa says, giving Ken one more squeeze before he lets him go. "That's good. Family's important. Keeping it going and growing, that's worth all kinds of hard work."
"I agree," Ken says as he sits again. Robert sits next to him and leans over to kiss his cheek. "We didn't have a regular courtship, but I look forward to having a real happy marriage," Ken adds, which makes Robert duck his head. He takes Robert's hand and squeezes it gently.
"You two did a lot of hard work to get here right now," Ma says as she walks into the room with a pitcher of water. "You got through more fear and sorrow and worry than some couples see in a lifetime."
"Lucky them," Camilla says, and Ken likes how she sounds truly glad some people have it easier.
"An easy time is a lovely time, but weathering hard times and coming out together, that's what builds a family," Matilda says, clearly reciting something she's heard a lot. She's smiling.
"My granny always says you gotta be in it together to get it through it in one piece," Ken replies.
"Another similarity," Robert says, and Ken smiles at him, understanding what he means. They're so different on the surface, but in so many ways, they were brought up the same.
"Lucky us," Ken says, and Robert nods in agreement.

So what do people actually think the background characters in the Underland chronicles look like
Just wondering. From all the (amazing) Fan art I have seen of Gregor , Lizzie, and Boots the fandom seems to have a pretty cohesive Idea on what they look like. Luxa also seems to have a pretty standard image in the fandom (Though wasn't she on the cover of the first design of MOS) with the only differentiation being how far along she is in puberty. Reminder if she was in the overland she would be in the sixth grade.
Other characters though Like really what do people think they look like. In my head Mrs. Cormaci is a plump/rounder women and I thought for years I had read that in the books until I saw fanart of her being drawn as more slim. Then I reread part of TPOB and was like Oh it never says what shape she is, I guess I just thought she was bigger because she is always cooking so much rich sounding food for charities. Then I remember seeing some one post once that what if she was Hazard's maternal grandmother. His maternal grandparents live in NYC, and Mrs.Cormaci is mentioned to have had a daughter.
Well that is bitter sweet because on one had that means that Mrs. Cormaci's daughter has been missing for years and in fact died without her mother ever knowing what happened to her (she also would not have known when her father died). Gotta then wonder if Mrs.Cormaci giving Lizzie her daughters old cloths is more than just her trying to help the Campbells while also declutter her house. But that also means Hazard has at least one Grandma who is really grand, if this relation was ever realized then maybe Hazard could come up to the overland for visits and stay with Mrs. Cormaci. Also she would probably have pictures of her daughter that she could show Hazard so he could remember what his mom looked like. Anyway I really liked this theory and wanted it to be cannon, but then i realized that since Hazard's overland features are his black hair and green eyes his overland relations probably have them to, and was like oh wow I never pictured Mrs.Cormaci having green eyes.
Another character I think about is Vikus. In my head the males in the underland Henry, Mareth, York all have short close cropped hair because they fight so much. Or in Howard's a short stack of wavy/curly locks cut just short enough to stay out of his eyes when wet. I do love the fan art I have seen of Henry with long hair though. But When It comes to Vikus , I guess since he seeks peace and is better relations, I usually imagine him with long grey hair and a long beard. to me he winds up looking kinda like men in biblical stories. Solovet however is muscled with a near shaved head. She is on the small side and slouches a bit when trying to appear as a gracious hostess and that plus her wrinkles make her seem non dangerous. When she is in planing/battle mode though she stands perfectly straight and those seemingly kindly wrinkles disappear, and she just looks completely terrifying.
Dulcet and Nerissa are other cases. Dulcet is described as being shy and very pretty. But as someone who works in childcare I can say with certainty that her hair is most likely a mess, her simple cloths likely have stains and crayon markings all over them. This girl is a beautiful mess. Then we have Neressa whom everyone knows is a mess. Since she is constantly described as wide eyed, tired, frail, to thin, and wearing her long hair a loose pony tail. But I don't often see it acknowledged that she canonically wears multiple layers of cloths at once or that her cloths never match.
I said most of the men in the underland would have short hair, could Hamnet have grown his hair out longer in the jungle, to try and make himself look different from how he did as a solider. Likewise I also imagine his lizard skin cloths being frayed and raggedy at the edges, much different from whatever military uniforms regalians wear. Anything to help hims see something different when he looks into the water. Can we talk about how when Gregor first meets Howard he describes him as tall and really strong, Then during his time with the plague Howard looses like 20 pounds and has scars wear ever he had bumps. Howard likely could not even fit into his old cloths after getting better.
What do Gregor's parents look like. We know they are both thin and tired. His dad's hair has gone completely white. Grace's cannot be to far behind with how hard she works and being in a state of constant worry for her family. Do fans still Agree with the theory that Grace is white and the Dad is black?
Also one more thing. Why does everyone think any of the underlanders that haven't completely greyed over have silver-blond hair. Like I know Luxa has that shade. Luxa would also probably be blonde if she has been born i t he overland. But it only specified that a silver tint was part of what distinguished the underlanders. Personally I always thought they could have any hair color (examples I imagine Howard being brunette and Mareth having black hair) but that it would always be paler than an overland counter part.
Like I know and respect that the characters descriptions are vague on purpose, and that the fun is that we can imagine them looking in so many different ways. But like really how do people imagine their favorites look. What little we get implies that the characters do not fall into the young adult novels trope of making them all look super hot. They are scared, beat up, anxious, and some are wearing cloths that do not fit them, some are missing body parts. To me that makes them infinetly more fun to imagine than most YA novel characters
So seriously if you have any strong clear/headcannons as to what you think certain human characters look like, please share them int he comments.

To Our Daughter
It’s been 3 years since we lost you, and not a day goes by that we don’t think of you…
Alexandria Rinella Varmitech
Tumblr media
We know you’re safe, loved, and well cared for in the arms of those who have gone before you. You were taken so you would have the best life imaginable. A life you wouldn’t have had if you’d stayed with me, because if you had you wouldn’t have had the father you now have, and he and I love you so much. So do like grandpa’s been telling you and keep smiling, sing and dance with him and grandma, and all your aunts and uncles and great grandparents, enjoy the life you’ve been blessed with.
We’ll dance with you one day baby girl, until then keep dancing for us 💜.
See below cut for some context.
I had a dream about the baby I lost on November 4th, 2020 shortly before she should have been born in 2021. In the dream the baby was around 6 to 8 years old, the baby was a little girl…she was wearing a white dress and walking through a forest or field, I’m not sure which, it was just very green and there were flowers everywhere. In the dream, she had dark red, wavy hair, which genetically came from my grandmother…My dad’s got auburn hair, I have strawberry blonde, not unusual.
Tumblr media
This is the hair color I dreamed she had, and this is sort of how I saw her in the dream: in shadows and light. Image Credit
What was unusual is that she had green eyes. Again, my dad, grandmother, and bio dad all had green eyes, but her eyes did not match their eye color, her eyes were dark green…she had Zach’s eyes, she was and is Zach’s daughter, she was and is my daughter, she was and is OUR DAUGHTER. I never wanted a girl before we lost her, but now I hope and pray that one day I’ll have a beautiful daughter just like her. I guess that’s why Zach and Violet had Varina…she’s my hope, and maybe I’ll get that in real life too 💜.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not the best pics of Zach, but that’s about what her eye color was, if you can imagine a human version of that color.

I went to a restaurant that I have never been to before so the layout was new to me. My grandfather managed to park his car around 20 metres (60 feet) away from the entrance of the restaurant. I got out out of the car and asked my grandfather if I could hold his car keys as the car was my only promised safe safe.
My grandfather gave me the car keys and I walked towards the restaurant. As I got closer I saw how many people were at restaurant and decided that I wasn't comfortable at the restaurant so I went back to the car.
My grandparents recently had gotten a new car so I wasn't too familiar with how the car keys worked. I stood near the car and tried to unlock it but it wouldn't unlock. My grandmother also tried unlocking the car but it wouldn't work.
Than I had a episode of derealisation where everything didn't feel real than I had a huge fright when everything snapped back into place. I got really panicked and started swearing and ran as fast as I could towards the restaurant hoping I could find the toilet there. I felt bad because I swore infront of small children. There were people walking and to the restaurant and I needed to get through. I said "excuse me sorry I'm having a panic attack!" I felt embarrassed about what I did.
Thankfully the toilet was right near the entrance so I sat on the floor shaking and breathing rapidly. I filmed to video to spread awareness of Agoraphobia and panic attacks. I checked my heart rate and it was 120 something.  My mum and grandmother came into the toilets and helped me up.
I didn't feel like staying at the restaurant as I was in a real state and couldn't calm down so we left. My grandfather made sure the car was unlocked when I walked back to the car. I was shaken up for a while after and unable to speak. I am ok now and glad it's over.
Video Description:
I am a white woman in my late 20s and I have dark brown hair that is tied up in a bun with a fringe. I am wearing a flower crown with small white flowers on it. I am also wearing a demin jacket. I am infront of some tiles. I am breathing rapidly.

વેવિશાળ [Vevishal]
(My Feminist Commentary Part - 4/5)
"મુસ્કાન બવ માથાભારે છે!"
Translation: "Muskan is too headstrong!"
said my ex-father-in-law while returning my stuff back to my family. Sharing my mother’s optimism that I could do both—build an ambitious career and not put my personal life on hold—I had agreed to getting married to my boyfriend of five years. We had a formal engagement ceremony, where we exchanged rings and celebrated with our families, and I was excited about the prospect of our life together. There is a photo album in my cupboard which holds the memories of that day on glossy paper. There is also a પાનેતર [Panetar] (traditional Gujarati Saree for the bride) in the same cupboard that I planned to wear on the day of my wedding. However, that day never came!
In India, getting married is quite common and considered very important, which is why the divorce rate is also very low. Hence most of the Indians get married and stay together for the rest of their lives. While dating and marrying for love is becoming more popular, arranged marriages are still common in India. In my family, all marriages are arranged marriages and I am the first person who dated openly.
I was about to finish high-school and turn 18 when I had my first ever conversation about dating with my parents. It was a summer evening and we were enjoying some cold drinks on the balcony of our small apartment. My mother was recounting her experiences about getting marriage proposals as soon as she had turned eighteen. "It put બાપુજી [Bapuji] (my grandfather) in an awkward position. He felt awkward when people would keep asking for my hand in marriage before I was ready. But things have changed now. No one is going to bother us by asking for your hand until you graduate from college," she said. "I don't think that I will get married that way," I said. "How do you plan to get married then?" asked my father curiously. "I am going to date!" I replied. "But that is not our culture!" said my mother, refusing to engage with the idea any further. "We will see," said my father without showing disapproval. I wondered about બા [Ba] (my grandmother)'s reaction as she was not present during the conversation. In Indian families, grandparents often play a significant role in decision-making, so her opinion would be important. It is important to note that at the age of 17, I was convinced that someday I am supposed to get married. I was not questioning the notion of marriages but just the tradition of arranged marriages.
Universities are a great place for learning and romance, and I did both ;). He was the lead guitarist in our garage band and he also made me laugh (so clichĂŠ!). But the important thing about him was that he never treated me differently for being a woman. He always valued my opinion, whether we were discussing music, academics, or current events. He encouraged me to pursue my goals and never suggested that I should limit my ambitions because of my gender. In the band, he treated me as an equal partner, not just a "female guitarist." He always made sure my voice was heard and my contributions were recognized.
Women are not treated as equals in most of the marriages that I have seen. Young women are often told to compromise against the discrimination that comes with the wedding traditions and the married life. They either resign themselves to the discrimination or spend their lives fighting for equality. In contrast, I always saw my boyfriend as my equal. We grew up in the same city, came from the same socioeconomic class, went to the same university and graduated with the same degrees. We were equals in every sense. So when it came to marriage, I had high hopes about achieving an equal partnership with him.
While I'm happy that we sustained equality in our relationship while dating, when it came to marriage, I started receiving a lot of discrimination in the name of wedding traditions and expectations from a wife and a daughter-in-law. I also experienced subtle pressures to conform to traditional roles within the family. Having zero tolerance for gender-based discrimination in my personal life, I obviously protested against it. But my protests were met with resistance. Unwilling to settle for anything less than being treated like an equal, I had to call off the wedding. It is important to note that for the first time ever in my life, I started questioning the notion of marriage in my mid-20s thanks to this incident.
એઞ never got equality in her marriage and my mother too hasn't achieved it completely. My boyfriend and I had equality as long as we stayed boyfriend and girlfriend, but it got thrown out of the window as soon as we decided to become husband and wife. It's absurd how such a small change in our titles could have such a profound impact on our relationship. It made me realize how deeply ingrained these expectations are, even among people who consider themselves progressive. It's as if the institution of marriage itself carries with it a set of traditional roles and power dynamics that are difficult to shake off.
This experience of calling off a wedding primarily because I failed at sustaining an equal partnership is quite an unusual reason in my social circle, where women often make compromises for marriage. I have seen no examples where a woman challenged the discriminatory expectations at the risk of not getting married. I did not win, but I am proud that I protested. Instead of asking me to compromise, my family respected my feminist ideas and stood by me. I see that as a huge milestone in the women's condition in my family.
When people get to know about my feminist crusade for equality in wedding traditions and marriages, I generally get two kinds of reactions. Some people react with "Wow! That is brave!" and the others call me nuts :p. Most of the people in my social circle claim that India is not there yet when it comes to equality within marriages. "But why not?" I ask. It's frustrating to hear this, especially when I consider all the ways we've achieved equality in other areas of life:
We go to the same schools.
We study from the same books.
We write the same exams.
We compete for admission to the same universities.
We take the same courses and graduate with the same degrees.
We work on building the same skills and compete for the same jobs.
We often earn the same salaries.
We pay the same taxes on our income.
Despite all this, why are we still allowing men the ages-old special treatment when it comes to marriages? Why even the couples who managed to date as equals fail to remain equals when it comes to marriages?
I paid attention to married women under the age of 40 at a recent social gathering. Most of them were in charge of providing care for their children and in-laws with little to no help from their husbands. For these women, it was simply out of scope to take care of themselves, their diet, and exercising. Some of these women had already become obese. Many of them suffered from chronic pain in their necks, backs, knees, and other joints. These women were struggling with basic health and well-being even before turning 40. This is often what happens when husbands fail to bring in their 50% in the marriage, leaving their wives to shoulder the majority of the burden. Married women end up in this situation where they are overworked, exhausted, and unable to prioritize their own health.
Just like cricket, you can't escape marriages in India, and everyone I know from school and university is either already married or about to get married. Unlike cricket, I still take a keen interest in marriages, because a marriage is the perfect sport to understand a woman's situation. I still often go to cheer for my favorite teams when they tie the knot. But after facing injuries from a foul play, like being pressured to conform to traditional gender roles, and getting betrayed by the third umpire—society's expectations—I do not play anymore. Now I instead sit in the commentary box and enjoy the sport from a safe distance!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... Whoever "they" are just miiiight be right 📸🌌❤️‍🔥 I got the opportunity to stay up all night with my great aunt Susie looking at a literal basket case of family photos. It was so great to hear her thoughts and perspective on these pictures as she had actually met and knew most of these kinfolk in real life 🔥🌠🤗 Here are a few of my favorite Allen family photos and some of their backstory in no particular order: 1️⃣ My grandpa (Paw) in the Air Force sometime in the early 50s. Never saw this photo of him before but love it! Paw was a huge inspiration for me as a young man with aviation, motorcycles, and his love for life in our blood 💓 2️⃣ My great-grandfather (Poppie) sometime in the early twenties looking ever so suave & dapper 👌 3️⃣ Poppie at 14 years old in 1918 out on the farm here in East Tennessee with his two mules 🐴👨‍🌾🐴 4️⃣ Meemaw my great grandmother ever looking quite gorgeous in the early twenties ❣️ 5️⃣ My great great grandfather (Meemaw's dad) in 1917 driving the fire engine at station #8 here in Knoxville where he worked for many years 🧑‍🚒🚒🧯 6️⃣ A hand drawn portrait of George Scott Allen my great-great-grandfather (Poppies dad) in 1892. He was a 6 ft 2 Irishman with red hair & blue eyes. He worked at a still functioning fish hatchery here in East Tennessee (which I will go visit soon 🙏😀🐟💜) 7️⃣ A hand-drawn portrait of my great-great-grandmother (Poppies mom) who had poppies 6 bothers in secession then his five sisters in secession 🤯 8️⃣ By far the oldest picture in this collection taken in 1888 of my great-great-great-grandmother/father (Meemaw's grandparents) Meemaw's grandma was pregnant with her mother in this photo. Sadly her mom died 3 months after granny Dalton was born. The family brought in a wet nurse who was Cherokee which was quite racy for that time 🫠💚🤱 9️⃣ Paw out in Texas in the 50s at a tent revival wearing his cowboy boots 🤠 🔟 Poppie on his way to work as a locomotive engineer here in Knoxville Tennessee in the 1930s 🚂💨🛤️🧡🌌🚀 Hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane as much as I did y'all 💙💛💙💛💙💛 (at Knoxville, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn5SIoXrCoM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

There was no greater feeling in the world than winning gold at the Olympics. Well, until now. Until he turned and saw Charles running right at him before quite literally jumping into his arms and congratulating him with a kiss. Their first kiss. This wasn't how James expected it to happen, but fuck, was he happy with it. More than. It was better than winning gold if he was honest and for even a split second, he nearly forgot that he won a gold medal because all he could focus on was the man he was falling so hard and so deep for kissing him. His tired arms wrapped around the man in return, keeping him held up, having enough strength to do so, as he reciprocated the kiss without hesitation. Winning Gold was great and all, but the real gold was here in his arms.
"Oh, that's so sweet. Aren't they cute, Izzy?" Comes Stede's awwing from next to his husband, hearts practically floating all around his head as he hangs onto his arm, admiring the two love birds in front of them. "Reminds me of us." He giggles. "Well, minus the kissing... we didn't kiss after I won gold." He beams, not intending to start anything by bringing that up, it just... happened sometimes. It was something he was proud of, something that made him happy, not just because he won, but because it was the start of a beautiful rivalry turned love story.
Shit. Right. They were at the Olympics and he just won. Fuck. James pulled away with the reddest blush on his face once he remembered where he was and what just happened. "That, uh... wow..." He chuckles, seemingly at a loss for words. "Have to say that was the best kiss I've ever had.." He admits with that sweet smile of his, his face still red as though kissed by the sun. He lowers Charles to the ground just then, quickly pressing another kiss to his lips, and then another, loving the way it makes his heart dance and his stomach flip. Fuck. This man makes him feel like no other and had his Grandparents not shown up, he would've kept kissing Charles and once again forgotten where he even was.
He hugged them both, squeezing and lifting his Grandmother who then looked to Charles, as she had been doing throughout the match. "You're dating this hunk? The Charles Vane? Oh, good for you, sweetie! I always did tell you if you marry, marry handsome and rich! An Olympian is even better!" Of course it was a joke and James laughed, his face far more red now than it was some seconds ago. "Since when?"
James looked at Charles with a questioning look. "Well, uh, I guess since now?" He chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck. "Charles, this is my Grandad and Nan. They--" It was then that someone approached him, advising him to get changed and ready for the medal ceremony. "Right. Better get going, then." He kissed both his grandparents on the cheek and then looked at Charles, grabbing his hand. "You'll stay, yeah? For the ceremony and, uh," he looked at his Nan who was wearing a cheeky smile. "after?" He finishes with a shake of his head, grinning because of his Nan who seemed oh so happy about this.
Then came Izzy to hurry him inside, just as he had to do before the match, and so James disappeared into the locker room to get changed, his heart racing with excitement and joy. Soaring above the clouds. Not necessarily because he won gold, but because of the man that made him feel like gold. Fuck, he already couldn't wait to see him again. And kiss him.
“ I didn’t — “ Pant. “ Want to.. “ Pant. He took a deep breath to calm his breathing and finished answering. “ Miss your big match. “ Next thing he knew his hand was cupping his cheek and that felt good. James seemed so happy, so confident. Charles knew he could win. He had the skill — not that he’d researched and watched YouTube videos last night of him or anything. Not like Charles had researched more rules of fencing just so he understood every little thing today. It was exactly what he had done. Was he about to kiss him ? Oh it felt like it but then WHAM. The doors flew open.
“ You’re gonna win, James. “ Funding out he was in the final bout was relieving as he’d be devastated if he’d missed anything, or James had lost. He had his full faith in him now. He reached up and held his face in his calloused hands. “ I watched your matches last night. “ He readily confessed. “ You’re so fucking good at what you do. You’ve got this, baby. “ The sweet name came out so naturally, but Izzy interrupted again and it was time to go. Charles hung on as long as he could to touch him, fingers finding his until the last possible second, right until the mask went on.
“ .. can I? “ Charles followed looking to Izzy hopefully. He groaned in slight annoyance, but really he just wanted the fucking gymnast to stay out of the way so his boy could win. He reluctantly nodded.
“ If he loses, it’s your fucking fault. “ Izzy growled, as they both stood at the sidelines.
“ So if he wins that means it’s because of me. “ Charles smirked confidently, his eyes now focused on the starring match. Enguarde was shouted, and as soon as James got that point he jumped up and down like a proper cheerleader. “ RUN HIM THROUGH!! “ He could dream right?
Cameras had planned to the sidelines and one of the commentators spoke. “ There’s Olympic champion Izzy Hands, his coach. What you’ve got to remember is Flint has dexterity on his side. Oh look, looks like the Olympic champion gymnast, Charles Vans is here to watch. “
The female commenter giggled a bit. “ Nice to see the Olympic sweetheart showed up for the final round. I’m sure our boy loves that. “ And she could say it. She was British.

Chapter 14:
Gif by: @hotd-odds-n-ends
Taglist: @ocappreciationtag @arrthurpendragon @stargaryenx
A/n: Aemee is pronounced Amy/Aimee
Tumblr media
“Teora told me you have had dragon dreams.” Grandmother wastes no time as she gently dries Aemma’s thick hair.
“I have only had two visions, not all my fits result in a vision. I think I’ll be needing more teacups.” Aemma likes being coddled, she just doesn’t like that her grandmother uses this time to get every single drop of information out of her.
“I need you to tell us when you have them, and what you saw. Sometimes we can prevent something from happening by warning others of the danger ahead.” Luckily, Rhaenys doesn’t like drawing out conversations if she doesn’t have to.
“If I write them in a letter, they will be read by the maesters and they will think I am insane.” There would never be a way to warn people, not without them shutting her up in a tower away from everyone.
“No, but you can you write them down in the journal Maester Mathis gave you before your grandfather left, and then show me what you saw. People will just think you wrote one of your stories down and let me read it.” Grandmother is wise and smarter than anyone she knows, of course her ideas are always good.
“I will think about it, lady grandmother.”
---
Aemma writes Aemond’s name on the underside of one the parchment flowers.
She is not the only one, even missing an eye he is still one of the most handsome boys here.
But she is the only one here who has kissed him.
And the only one here related to the boy he hates for taking his eye.
Perhaps the Andal Gods can help her with that.
Goodnight, Aemee, he had said and given her a second kiss when their passageways separated them.
Both kisses were clumsy and awkward, but to her they felt magical. Aemma had felt like Jonquil being kissed by Florian.
“No fair, you wrote yours in High Valyrian.” Hazel pouted and showed her where she had written Daeron’s name.
“It’s supposed to be a secret, no one but the Maiden should know the names we’ve written there, or else it won’t come true.” Aemma defends her secrecy.
“Do you think Prince Aemond knows you like him?” Hazel whispers after the ceremony is over.
Aemma prays she doesn’t know she’s flustered at the idea of him knowing she likes him that way and not because she knows the feeling is mutual.
----
Aemma is given a seat at grandfather’s right. Mother always sat at his right, but because she is not there and grandfather likes to pretend Aemma is her.
She wears her snow-white dress and a golden circlet with seven gemstones that mirror the crown Viserys wears.
It had belonged to Princess Alyssa Targaryen and because grandfather only cares about Rhaenyra, he has snubbed both his wife and his other daughter in favor of Aemma.
When she comes of age, he has promised her Queen Alysanne’s crown. The one Queen Aemma wore, the one he refuses to let Alicent wear.
A reminder to all that Aemma he wed for love and Alicent for duty.
“I have asked your mother to let you stay here, to keep this old man company and serve as my cupbearer just as your mother did.” It is not up for debate, if the king wishes to keep her here, Aemma will be here.
“I would be honored, grandfather, but I promised my mother I would stay with her at least until the next year.” She hopes her decline is heard. A stupid notion, she thinks, one does not say no to a king.
“And why is that?” he asks her as if he truly cared about her opinions and thoughts, maybe he does and Aemma is just being too distrustful of adults again.
“I need to learn how to rule Dragonstone, your grace. If I am to be queen after my mother, I need to know how to be Princess of Dragonstone and apply all that I have learned from my grandparents and their ways of ruling Driftmark.”
Aemma has many plans, she had heard that Braavos had women learning in their universities now, that the first was now a professor of law.
Dragonstone barely had schools for boys of low backgrounds, she wanted to open schools for girls and schools were both children are taught together like in Essos.
Dragonstone also had issues of her mother not listening to her vassals, and her vassal lords distrusting her.
And if Aemma wanted cement her position as heir, she needed to keep Dragonstone and the Crownlands loyal to their faction.
If they couldn’t be loyal to mother, they must be loyal to Aemma.
Make them know Aegon is not the answer, show them that the only answer is you, Vaemond had taught her.
So many issues her grandmother didn’t have in Driftmark, and for that to be fixed Aemma needed at least a year in Dragonstone.
“She is wise beyond her years; she will be a great queen and make our ancestors proud.” King Viserys proclaims to everyone and Aemma wished he’d stop doing that.
She doesn’t like how he makes them look at her like he was responsible for her greatness, like she was the only other member of his family besides mother, and worse, she doesn’t like how Ser Otto looks at her like she is a threat to him as he is forced to nod in agreement.
She is a threat, just as he and his family are to hers.
Strange how she is not allowed to be a girl of three and ten because her fucking family happens to be Targaryens.
Strange how they smile at each other yet hide knives behind their backs knowing the second King Viserys dies there won’t be reason to hide them anymore.
Grandfather is the shield that protects Aemma’s family, and the moment he dies the dragons will all start to die and so will they.
“She is of pure Valyrian blood, your grace, how could she not?” Vaemond emphasized the word pure and looked at Otto straight in the eye. “Had she been male I have no doubts Princess Rhaenyra and my late nephew would have named her Jaehaerys.”
Eight months later, Otto Hightower will name Aegon and Helaena’s twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera.
It will be then that the Velaryons will realize that Alicent and her children are just pieces in the board, Otto Hightower is the man Corlys and Rhaenys are playing against and have been since his appointment during the reign of Jaehaerys the First.
He, Aemma realizes in that second, is lighting the way to their downfall. A green beacon leading them to their deaths.
Otto Hightower does not care about anyone least of all his own daughter, he only cares about his ambition.
“And why do you think, dear Lord Vaemond, the gods make her a girl?” the queen asks hiding her mockery very well.
Her insults are her defense, she must rely on men to defend her because Andal women were raised to think they need them.
A sad existence, Aemma thinks, to belittle others because somehow it will loosen the yoke she wears. And it never does, it just makes others unsympathetic to her plight.
To be frank, Aemma is tired of her petty insults, to feel the pricks of her needle because that is how Alicent copes with the shitty hand life has dealt her.
“Comedy, I suppose. The Gods have a sense of humor, a terrible and wicked one, I think, why else would they give my kingly grandfather a bounty of sons after he finally listened to them and made mother his heir?”
Aemond will hate her after this.
No wishing on the Maiden will ever make him forgive this insult on him and his family.
But Aemma will be damned if she lets anyone make her feel inadequate because of her sex.

Honey Tea | 01 Yandere!Jungkook
Tumblr media

genre: yandere, angst, mentions of mental health, future smut, manipulation,
Parts: 01 | 02.
summary: You're delighted to find the perfect caregiver for your ill grandmother but are soon to find out his intentions are far from pure.
Your eyes were glued on the clock that hung on the brown tinted wall, nervously biting your lip. You really hadn’t liked the idea of having to even hire a caregiver for your grandmother to begin with but you weren’t left with much of a choice. Finding a job was hard to begin with, not only due to the fact that living in such a small town made the options limited but your lack of job experience didn’t make it any easier. Your anxiety disorder had only gotten worse over the years, interfering with your daily activities and made things such as simple trips to the grocery store a living nightmare.
However,  you couldn’t let your anxiety control your life any longer. You knew it was finally time to take some actual responsibility and do what was best for your grandmother. She had taken care of you and raised you all your life up until now, she was tired and  her heart condition wasn’t going to get any better. It was up to you to take care of her now, she was all you had left.
While your grandmother was decently well off and had insisted you didn’t need to get a job, you had refused. Medical expenses were not getting any cheaper and while the job you managed to land at the old bookstore down the street wasn’t much, it would surely help some bit. Besides, you were hoping it would help better your anxiety, being stuck inside the house all day surely wasn’t helping your intrusive thoughts.
Now the only issue was having to leave your grandmother home alone for so long, she had insisted she would be fine but you knew better. At her age, the amount of things that could go wrong would just race through your head nonstop.
The sudden knock on the door made you jump, you lifted  yourself off the soft leather coach and rushed down the small hallway of your home. You took a deep breath, not even bothering to check the peep hole in your rushed state and swung the door open, the chilly air instantly hit your face.
The guy in front of you looked exactly like his profile on the caregiver website, his tall frame towered over you and his large dark eyes quickly took you in. His dark hair falling below his ears and he gave you a friendly smile. He wasn’t much older than you according to his age on the website but his face held a childlike look to it, his handsome features were even more intimidating in person.
“Hello, you’re Y/n right?” He questioned, his voice smooth. The way his eyes scanned over your face almost made you want to hide.
“U-uh, yeah. You’re Jungkook right?” You asked, cringing at how awkward you sounded already. He nodded and you stepped aside, signaling him to come in.
“Sorry, my grandma is still sleeping, she should be waking up any minute.” You explained as you walked down hallway and he followed closely behind you. You guided him to the kitchen, offering him to take a seat at the table which he gladly accepted. You suddenly felt anxious all over again with his gaze on you.
“That’s okay, I’ll giver her the medications when she wakes up.” He smiled at you and his eyes darted around the kitchen, seeming to take everything in.
“Right, I left them on the counter for you and I texted you the details in case you forget. She takes her blood pressure and heart medication first thing every morning , her stomach is a bit sensitive so I’d prefer she ate something before she takes the-“ You rambled, pacing around the kitchen.
“Y/n” Jungkook cuts you off, his tone gentle. “Don’t worry, I know what to do. I’ll make sure to make her some breakfast.”
You nodded your head in embarrassment but his words brought you comfort. You knew you were worrying over nothing , he had some of the best reviews on the website and obviously seemed to know how to care of elderly people way more than you ever would.
“Sorry, I’ve just never left her alone with anyone.” You admitted, sitting down on the empty the seat right across from him.
“I see, is she your only family?” He asked, raising a curious eyebrow.
“Yeah, my parents died in a car accident when I was little so my grandma practically raised me.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” He gave you a pitying look and reached over to take your hand in his. You were a bit taken aback by the sudden action but he didn’t look phased in the slightest.
“You seem like a caring girl, many young people like you wouldn’t think twice in sending off their grandparents to a retirement home.” He said, his eyes boring into yours. He seemed genuinely in awe.
“I could never, she’s all I have.” You didn’t even want to imagine a world without your grandmother , despite knowing the reality of her old age and health conditions. Not to mention, the idea of sending her off to one of those facilities just seemed cruel to you, you didn’t have the heart to even consider it.
Jungkook watched you, you were indeed more beautiful in person. The blurry profile picture in the website didn’t even come close to doing you justice. He could tell how much you cared about your grandmother, it was obvious even through the messages you had sent him when you first selected him for the job. He could tell you were an anxious person just by looking at you. The way you had seemed like a deer caught in headlights when you first opened the door, your smaller frame cowering behind it. It was obvious even in the way you sat now, your leg bouncing beneath the table and your eyes refusing to make direct eye contact with him ever since he had arrived.
He found it all endearing.
“I-I better get going! It’s my first day and I don’t want to be late.” You said, suddenly remembering what time it was, the last thing you needed was to make a horrible first impression the first day at your job.
“First day? No wonder you seemed so nervous.” Jungkook teased, his hand slipping from yours as you got up.
“Yeah, well more like first ever real job so it’s even worse.” You let out a small shaky laugh, walking over to grab your bag from the counter.
“It’s your first job? How exciting.” He beamed, eyes seeming to follow your every action.
“Well, it’s a bookstore so probably not that exciting.” You mumbled as you tugged at the ends of your dress anxiously. Jungkook lips quirked up at your scattered movements, not ignoring the way the dress hugged your curves.
“Please make sure to text me if you need anything. The fridge is full and my grandma usually likes oatmeal in the morning, feel free to help yourself when you get hungry too!” You said, pointing towards different areas in the kitchen.
“ The bathroom is down the hall too and oh! I completely forgot to give you a tour of the house!” You groaned , realizing your dumb mistake. You had not even properly told the guy how to direct himself throughout the house.
Jungkook chuckled , standing back up and he making his way past you.
“Relax, I’ll be fine. The  house isn’t that big, I can find my way around it.” He assured you, observing your grandmothers medication bottles that sat on the counter.
You nodded and starting making your way out the kitchen.
“Y/n.” Jungkook called and you halted, turning back to face him. He gave you a warm smile, eyes trailing over your exposed shoulders that the thin straps of your sundress failed to hide. “ It’s quite chilly outside, you should wear a jacket .”
“Oh, right. Thank you!” His comment only confirmed how fitting he seemed for the job of a caregiver, you found it cute. You quickly grabbed the cardigan laying on the couch on your way out and rushed outside.
—-
To your surprise, the first day at your new job had gone quite smoothly. It wasn’t nearly as nerve-wracking as you had thought but it mainly had to do with you not having to interact with anyone much. You had spent your day stacking and reorganizing books, you were glad your boss hadn’t put you as the cashier. The old man insisted for you to stay in the back, probably noticing how anxious you had seemed in the job interview and not wanting to risk you embarrassing yourself with customers. You were grateful for that in a way, if your job continued like this then you were sure you could do it.
“Grandma?” You called out as you stepped inside the house, your shoes padding against the wooden floors. You let your bag drop on the ground as you walked down the hallway. You heard faint laughter near you, seeming to come from the living room. You turned and saw your grandma seated on her rocking chair, happily chatting with Jungkook who was seated on the coach beside her.
“Y/n! You’re home, my dear. “ Your grandmother gushed when she saw you, a smile forming on her wrinkled face. You walked over to her, giving her a tight hug.
“You didn’t tell me such a handsome young man was going to be the one to wake me up this morning.” Your grandmother stated and your face heated up at her words.
“Grandma!”
Jungkook chuckled, his smile reminded you of a bunny in a way.
“I’m assuming things went well?” You asked, face still hot.
“Perfect, your grandmother is a joy to be around.” Jungkook confirmed, glancing at your grandmother. “ I think she’s the easiest person I’ve had to look after.”
You sighed in relief, overjoyed that there hadn’t been any issues and everything seemed perfectly fine.
“Jungkook made some delicious oatmeal, I didn’t know these caregivers were such good cooks. “ Your grandmother added and you giggled.
“I gave her all her medications and she should be good to go to bed soon.” Jungkook said, standing up .
“How was your first day at work, my dear?” Your grandmother asked and you felt Jungkook’s heavy gaze on you.
“Good , I think. I mean it was better than I expected.“
“You know you don’t have to force yourself too much.” Your grandmother insisted, worry lacing her tone but you shook your head.
“I promise I’m not.”
“Your grandmother said you are a bit of anxious person?” Jungkook mentioned, tilting his head in a questioning manner.
You glanced at your grandma, wondering how much exactly she had told Jungkook.
“I told him how much you struggle with your anxiety and socializing with people. “ She sighed, resting her hands on her lap. “ You know how much I worried about you getting a job. I want you to put your health first.”
“Grandma, I’m fine. This job is helping me.” You insisted, not being able to help the annoyance in your tone. You felt a bit awkward now that Jungkook knew about your mental health conditions. It seemed too invasive.
“Your grandma is just trying to look after you, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.” Jungkook’s tone was sincere as he stared down at you, noticing the change in mood you took.
He wondered how you would react to him knowing much more than just the surfaced level information your grandmother had provided for him. It wasn’t hard to get her to talk about you, it was all she ever did seem to talk about and Jungkook couldn’t be happier at that. It made it easier to get to know you despite him not being able to be near you all day. Your grandmother served as an immediate resource. Although, not much of what she had said was surprising, he had figured the type of person you were at first glance, her words only serving as confirmation.
—
As weeks passed , Jungkook became more and more involved in your home life and his presence became so familiar to you, almost as if he had always been part of you and your grandmother’s life. He was here everyday first thing in the morning until late in the afternoon, sometimes even staying for dinner. Even on the weekdays, he managed to stop by for a bit and check up on your grandmother. You couldn’t believe it at first, that you managed to find such a perfect caregiver.
“Y/n!” Jungkook called out from the kitchen as you adjusted the scarf around your neck.
“One sec!” You said, rushing out and making your way towards the kitchen, you were met by a plate of stacked pancakes, scrambled eggs and chopped up fruit on the table.
“Don’t forget to eat before you leave.“ Jungkook stated, fussing over you to take a seat. It had become a habit of his to serve you breakfast each day before you left to work, insisting that it was bad for your health to leave on an empty stomach.
“You really don’t have to do this, Jungkook. You already do so much for my grandma.” You smiled, hesitantly taking a seat and taking a bite out of the delicious pancakes. Your grandmother really wasn’t lying when she said he was an amazing cook.
“Of course I do, besides I have extra time before your grandmother wakes up. “ He pushed a glass of orange juice towards you that you happily accepted.
“You seem a bit sickly lately, are you getting enough sleep? “ Jungkook questioned as he took a seat beside you. You had been more tired than usual lately but you figured it was because of your job. Although it wasn’t that physically demanding, you were sure it was your body getting accustomed to not sitting at home all day for once.
“Probably just tired from work.” You replied as you took another sip of your orange juice. Jungkook eyed you, taking in how shaky your hands seemed as you tilted the glass over your lips.
He didn’t like you working. He didn’t like seeing you do any type of labor, no matter how small. You should be treated like a princess, with so much care and not having to lift a finger for anything. He didn’t like the fact that you were away for such long hours, not knowing what type of trouble you were in or what you were up to. Fortunately, that would come to an end soon.
“I’d prefer if you actually finished your food this time. “ He said, his tone a bit more firm this time. You almost giggled at his serious expression.
“You take this caregiving job really seriously.” You commented as took another bite of the food. “ I’m sure my grandmother feels spoiled.”
“Hm, I’m sure she does. I try my best to.” Jungkook hoped you were the one that felt spoiled. He took great pleasure in seeing you happy, making sure he had all your needs met. He had took time finding out what your favorite foods, shows, and hobbies were. Anything related to you, he had become obsessed with knowing.
“I need to pick up my grandma’s prescriptions today so I may be home a bit later.” You added in between chews.
“No need, I picked them up already before coming here.” Jungkook smirked, and you sighed.
“You really were born for this job.” You mumble.
—
Jungkook sat on his bed, his eyes glued to his phone screen. The tiny camera he had hidden inside your room was at a perfectly angle from your bed. Placed inside one of the eye sockets of your many stuffed animals, he had found your collection of them cute. He watched as you emerged from your bathroom, eyes following the tightly wrapped towel around your body. Your skin still damp from the shower as you reached over your dresser for the lotion bottle. He swallowed heavily as he watched your towel drop on the floor, exposing your bare body. His eyes hungrily took in every curve, from your breasts down to your core.
You were ethereal, no matter how much he had tried to handle his needs by fucking other women , he was never satisfied. They weren’t you, and they would never would be. He almost felt as if he was betraying every time he had went to bed with another women. He was disgusted with himself for even giving in, promising himself he would never seek the pleasure of another women. You were his only muse, the only person he wanted. You were going to be together forever.
He watched as you spread lotion over your legs, massaging them. The tightening in his pants only worsened and despite how much he tried to control himself, he let his hand tug his pants down and closed his eyes.
—
“I don’t know what’s wrong with her, she’s been sleeping a lot lately. “ You chewed on your bottom lip worriedly.
Your grandmother had been more lethargic than usual, you knew her old age made her sleep a lot most days but still, her sudden change in behavior was odd to you. Your grandmother was usually a chatty old lady and now she barely had the energy to hold a full conversation with you.
Jungkook listened intently, having his back turned to you as he prepared you some tea. He lifted the kettle and poured  the hot water over the tea bag, adding a bit of extra honey knowing you had a sweet tooth. He didn’t want you this anxious all night.
Especially not tonight.
“ You have to understand your grandmother is at a very delicate age now,” He began to explain. “ She’s tired and doesn’t have much energy for anything.”
You knew what he was implying but you didn’t want to accept it. You shook your head at just the mere thought.
“What if it’s because of me?” You wondered as he took a seat across from you and handed you over the mug. You thanked him and took a sip, the hot liquid soothing your throat.
“Bab-“ Jungkook stopped himself, not letting the nickname fall from his lips.
“You can’t blame yourself for these things. None of this is your fault.” He stated with a more serious tone, staring so intensely at you that you almost believed him.
“B-but what if it is? I mean, I don’t even spend that much time with her anymore. “ You reasoned. “Maybe she’s depressed.”
“You overthink too much,” He replied, watching as you took another sip of the tea. “ She seems happy all the time, you can’t expect her to be the same as a few years ago, it’s just the age.”
You sighed, nodding slowly at his words. You knew deep down he was right, your grandmother was just reaching a certain age that didn’t let her have much energy for much. However, that made you even more guilty having to go to work and just leaving her. Of course, you knew Jungkook took amazing care of her and she loved him, always gushing about how attentive he was. But that didn’t stop the guilt washing over you.
“I’m gonna go give her a good night kiss. “ You whispered, setting the mug down. Jungkook watched you until you disappeared from his view, rushing down the hallway.
You came into your grandmother’s room, turning on the lamp on her nightstand. She looked so peacefully asleep, you almost regretted coming inside in fear of waking her up. You made your way over to her bed, crouching down a bit to her level as you pulled back her covers a bit.
“Love you, grandma. Good night.” You whispered, pressing your lips to her cheek. Her skin was so ice cold that it made you flinch back.
You frowned, eyes scanning over body.
“Grandma?” You asked, shaking her shoulder a bit. No movement.
“Grandma?” You repeated, this time more panicked. You felt your heart drop as you continued to shake her more and no response came. She didn’t seem to be breathing.
“Jungkook!” You yelled as you stood up, fully taking the covers off her.
“Jungkook! Somethings wrong!” You yelled again, frantically running out of your grandmother’s room in search for the caregiver. You hurried down the long hallway, feeling your heart rapidly beat in your chest.
“Jungkook!” You found him sitting in the same spot you left him, he slowly turned his head towards you when he saw you enter the kitchen. “ Please call an ambulance! My grandma is not moving!”
“Y/n, calm down.” He said, slowly standing up from his seat. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion at his calm and nonchalant behavior.
“What!? How am I supposed to calm down? She’s not breathing!” You screamed at him, running past him in search of your bag.
“Where’s my phone!?” You dumped all the stuff out of your bag on the table, frantically searching for your phone.
Jungkook watched you silently , slowly circling the table. He took a quick glance at the clock that hung on the wall.
“Why are you just standing there!” You whipped your head back at him, angry tears already forming in your eyes.
“Do something! Go find hel-“ The wave of dizziness that took over your body made you shut your mouth. You stumbled back a bit, feeling a pair of arms hold you up.
The floor seemed to be spinning beneath you. You scrunched up your face in confusion. What the hell was happening?
“Shh, it’s okay baby.” You heard Jungkook whisper , his hot breath on your ear. Your heart continued to beat rapidly in your chest as your vision became more disoriented.
“W-whats going on?” You mumbled, feeling a heaviness take over you. Your legs felt weak, almost giving out beneath you as the arms around your body tightened.
“Everything is okay, baby. “ Jungkook hushed, arms holding you down.
“Just sleep.”
The tea. Your body chilled in realization.
“M-my grandma.” You attempted to free yourself from his grip, pathetically throwing punches against his chest. He almost found your attempts humorous.
He looked down at you in pity.
“Your grandmother was just an another obstacle between us, she’s in a much better place now.” His words made you freeze, your mind not knowing how to process what he had just said. You shook your head rapidly.
“No, no.” You let out choked sob, this wasn’t happening . None of this was happening.
“What did you do to her?!” Angry tears stained your cheeks, this had to be a nightmare. This couldn’t be real. Jungkook could never do that, this had to be some sick joke.
“What did you! Let me go!” You demanded but the weakness in your body only seemed to get stronger, your own body was betraying you right now as Jungkook continued to carry you down the hallway.
“Baby, you need to calm down.” Jungkook repeated as you continued to fight against his grip, he knew you wouldn’t last much longer. “ You’re going to hurt yourself. “
“P-please, let me go.” You cried, your vision blurry now. Everything seemed to spin, slowly fading away into darkness, your body falling limply against his.
“That’s it, fall asleep.” Jungkook pressed his lips against the side of your forehead. His princess was finally his.
“Everything is going to be okay, baby.” He smiled down at you, brushing your hair out of your wet face. “We’re finally going to be together.”

The holidays were always rough for you, being not only gay but transgender as well. There were the off-putting tension and feelings every time you walked in the room, and the side glances and judgemental glares that were shot your way if you were even caught wearing something feminine and not masculine. Mostly from your parents and family, feeling the obligation that you had to follow gender norms in the hope to not only pass but to be taken seriously in your own identity.
The holidays got a little easier once you married your now husband. He made visiting your family a bit easier and made the holidays in general, more enjoyable for you. This year, unfortunately, he had meetings and a nightly patrol that he couldn’t get out of, so you were left to go to the Christmas family gathering by yourself.
The day came, and needless to say, you were a nervous mess. You dressed up in a suit, something masculine of course to appease your family and keep those comments at bay. Though, you knew you weren’t in the clear as there was still a high chance of being deadnamed and misgendered by family who were unsupportive or others who just didn’t try. Your husband, Shouta, let you know before he left early that morning that if you needed anything at all to give him or Hizashi a call and they would come and get you in a heartbeat. He said Hizashi, just in case he couldn’t be reached, which was fine with you, Hizashi had become a close friend to you.
You arrived at your parent's house a little later than they asked, just cause you were nervous and needed more time to prepare for this evening. You knocked on the front door, adjusting your suit as you waited for someone to open the door, only to be greeted by one of your younger siblings. They gave you a big hug, before dragging you inside where you were greeted by family. Your grandmother was the first to deadname you. She called out as you talked to your uncle, a devious smile on her face as the name rolled off her tongue. You cringed hearing it and so badly wanted to correct her, but if your mother caught wind that you did, who knows what drama may pursue. You endured the conversation with her, as she made sure to drop in your deadname every chance she could get.
“Honestly D/N, you really should stop playing dress up and realize that you are a girl. Your husband would be so much happier to have a wife who knows her place and not some confused girl.”
You took a deep breath and bid your goodbyes to your grandmother as you went to find someone else to talk to. Eventually, dinner was called, and you all gathered around and your grandfather said a prayer. You looked down at your feet the entire time, not really wanting to participate in the prayer. Soon it wrapped up and a line formed into the kitchen to get food. After everyone got food, everyone gathered around and talked, telling stories of things that happened within the past year in their lives, as well as asking questions to others to get the latest scoop. You just decided to eat silently, trying to not participate in the gossip fest happening before you.
“So Y/N, how are you and your husband doing?” Your dad asked before he took a sip of a beer. You held up your pointer finger, signaling that you needed a moment as your finished chewing food before you smiled and spoke.
“Oh, we are doing well! He sends his deepest apologies that he couldn’t make it, hero duties called.” You smiled, taking a quick glance around the room. Some whispers were exchanged, knowing it was about you and Shouta. It was clear that besides your family not supporting your identity, they also did not support your marriage to a hero. Especially a hero who was supportive of you and your identity.
“Honestly, how she manages to keep such a hero man, is insane. Like who would wanna marry some confused lesbian?” One of your aunts spoke out. You gripped your glass tightly, biting your tongue, not wanting to start any issues.
Other family members chimed in to add on to your aunt's comment and soon it became too much. You quickly excused yourself and went to the bathroom farthest away from your family. You pulled out your phone and texted your husband. You told him that you needed him or Hizashi or someone to come to pick you up, as you originally walked, as it was nice earlier prior to the sun setting. You quickly got a reply, saying your husband was on his way, and that he was getting someone to cover the rest of his patrol. You felt a bit bad to interrupt and have him leave his patrol, but god you just needed him right now more than anything.
You hid amongst the rooms as you waited for Shouta to send you a message or signal that he was here. Your mom called out your name, walking down the hall looking for you. The smile on her face dropped as she saw you and grabbed your arm.
“Come on Y/N, we are about to exchange gifts. Stop trying to hide and be nice and spend time with your family. It took a lot of work and effort to get everyone here, like your grandparents who haven’t seen you in ages.” Your mom aggressively whispered at you, as she pulled you towards the living room. You stayed silently, hoping that your husband would be here soon.
Your mom let you go and pointed to a chair near the tree. You sat down and were handed some gifts. You slowly opened them, trying not to draw attention to yourself. The first gift was in a gift bag, and opening it exposed a colorful piece of clothing. You pulled it out and it was a sundress. Although you didn’t mind breaking gender norms, dresses were never your thing, they held too many bad memories and made you dysphoric. You frowned, not having the energy to fake a smile. You felt your mind start to spiral before a voice pulled you out.
“Oh, D/N do you not like it. I made sure to even get the right size and everything. I thought you could put that on and surprise your husband when you go home. Imagine how he would react to see his wife, finally coming to terms with herself.” Your grandmother called out, staring at you the entire time. You went to open your mouth when another voice spoke up.
“Actually, I think my husband looks handsome and perfect just the way he is in the suit he is wearing, but thank you. Maybe we can save the dress and give it to one of my students, I know one of them would get much better use of it.” Shouta’s voice boomed out, making a hush fall across the room. You never heard the front door open, but then again Shouta was very good at staying silent. You looked at your husband, feeling all your emotions and feelings starting to rise to the surface. You caught a dirty look your mother gave you as you stood up and made your way over to Shouta.
He held out his hand as you got closer and held it tightly, quickly bidding goodbye for you both as he quickly led you outside to the car that was waiting outside and still running. “I had Hizashi drive me over, hope that’s okay.” You just nodded at him, not letting go of his hand until you got into the car. As soon as you and Shouta were in the car, Hizashi sped off.
“Heya listener, how did it go?” Hizashi asked out, peeking into the mirror looking back at you.
“I lasted longer than last year, so that’s a new record at least.” You joked, trying not to cry. At least not now, you had to make it until you were home and in bed, with your husband holding you close.
Hizashi talked most of the ride home, while Shouta kept glancing back at you. You tried to listen to what was being said, but you couldn’t focus, so you just looked out the window, slightly dozing off. You woke up to the feeling of being carried, your eyes adjusted as you saw Shouta was carrying you into the house and to the bedroom. On any other occasion, if he was carrying you like this you were bound to tease or crack a joke or something, but in this moment you just stayed in his arms, gripping onto him tightly. Once you both got to the bedroom, he helped you undress and slip on something comfy. After he finished helping you, he quickly changed and climbed into bed, pulling you close to him and holding you tightly.
For a while, you just laid there in his arms, fighting back the urge to scream and cry. Though, after he comforted you and let you know it was okay to be upset and that you could let it all out. In which you did, you sobbed in his chest for what felt like hours. You screamed and sobbed and let out all the feelings you bottled up for the few hours you were at the family gathering. Eventually, you ran out of tears to cry and were only left with your own thoughts. You were overthinking, mostly dwelling on the words your family spoke out to you this evening, and couldn’t help but question if it was true.
“Sho...I’ve got to ask you something, kind of important.” You gently pushed away and sat up in the bed, looking at him. He stared at you, and nodded, letting you know it was okay to continue on. You took a deep breath and went for it, “Am I enough for you? I brought a lot of baggage and trouble into our relationship and I know it can’t be easy for you dating me, specifically with the backlash and comments that get made by my family and others about me transitioning and just. If you were with anyone else, I feel like you won’t get all this drama and I’m sorry I’ve brought so much of it onto you Shouta.”
You watched as his facial expression changed and you quickly looked away, finding interest in anything that wasn’t his face, afraid of what his reaction not only meant but the words that were about to follow. “Y/N, please look at me.” You slowly looked up and he placed a hand on your cheek. “I love you Y/N. I love you for you, you are my husband and I won’t want anyone else besides me. You are more than enough for me. And we both have a lot of baggage but that doesn’t change my feelings for you, we can work through it all together. I meant what I said in my vows and at our wedding and I still stand by it. Forever and always.”
You fiddled with your fingers before speaking up, “I love you Shouta so much, I’m just afraid one day I won’t be enough, cause as silly as it is, I don’t feel masculine or manly enough, that you’ll find more of a ‘real’ man one day and just leave me behind.” Tears filled your eyes and you looked down, just wanting to hide under the blankets.
“Y/N Aizawa, you are absolutely masculine and manly enough. I will never find anyone else or more a man than you. You are all I want, and all I need. I love you so much, don’t ever doubt my love for you, cause it is never-ending sweetheart.” Shouta spoke out, lifting your head up and placing a small kiss on your forehead before pulling you into his arms, holding you close. You just stayed there close, as Shouta whispered sweet nothings into your ear as you drifted off to sleep.
Shouta always made the holidays more bearable, but he also made life in general easier. He made waking up a little easier and helped with your hectic thoughts to calm you down. He truly was the love of your life and the best you could ever ask for. You couldn’t have gotten any luckier to have a husband as sweet and perfect as you. He may not be the number one hero to the rest of the world, but in your eyes and his heart, he was, he was your number one hero.

Note: This is fictional and doesn’t include reference to Cillian’s real children and wife.
Dublin to Birmingham
Just six weeks ago you and Max moved in with Cillian and things couldn’t have gotten much better between you.
Whilst you both took this step out of convenience and fairly early on in your somewhat fresh relationship, you were both happy and comfortable with your decision.
Max loved having Cillian’s children around and Cillian was slowly becoming like a father to Max, something he had never experienced before. He treated Max the same way he treated his own children and, sometimes, you wondered how you got so lucky. Even you and Cillian’s ex-wife had managed to build a reasonable relationship and, when Cillian wasn’t able, you would sometimes drive to her house to pick up his two sons. The age gap between you and Cillian didn’t bother her once she learned how you interacted with the children and once she met your son Max.
As far as your relationship with Cillian was concerned, you loved having each other’s company on a day-to-day basis. You often cooked together, took long warm baths together and played board games with the kids. But, most of all, you loved spending nights together in the same bed. It was not only romantic but comforting for you to have the man you loved by your side every night until quite recently.
Unfortunately, just as you settled into your new home, Cillian had to travel to England to begin filming the next season of Peaky Blinders.
This meant that you were going to be on your own for three weeks with Max before you would see him again in Birmingham, which is where your parents lived.
Whilst filming didn’t actually take place in Birmingham, Cillian was meeting you and Max there over the long weekend to finally meet your parents. It was your father’s birthday and, unfortunately, he wasn’t too fond of your relationship with Cillian.
Initially, you didn’t share much with your family other than the fact that you were living with Cillian and that he shared care for his two children with his ex. Furthermore, your parents had a problem with the age gap between you and Cillian after your father asked how old he was.
Your parents considered that age and the fact that you had three children between you might become an issue if you wanted more children of your own. You knew that Cillian didn’t want any more children and at this point, neither did you. Things were perfect the way they were and you hoped that your parents would accept your relationship once they saw how happy Cillian made you.
But, little did you know that, your parents would give him a much harder time than necessary when they first meet him.
On the Friday evening, when you arrived in Liverpool with Max, you were excited to see your parents. But, you were even more excited to see Cillian who you were meeting at the airport.
You had hired a car to drive to your parents’ house together. That way, you could drive back to Liverpool on the Monday with Cillian for another few quite days between you while your grandmother had planned to take Max back to Dublin.
In her opinion, you and Cillian were in need of some time together without kids. Unlike your parents, she adored Cillian and supported your relationship.
As you and Max got out of the plane and entered the terminal, you could see Cillian waiting for you from far away. He couldn’t be missed wearing the Thomas Shelby haircut and, unfortunately for you, other people recognised him as well.
But, he didn’t seem bothered by the fact that people were starring at him and took you into his arms before giving you a kiss as soon as you and Max approached.
He then proceeded to give Max a hug before offering you help with your bags.
‘Nice haircut’ you chuckled as you ran your hand over the back of his head.
‘Funny’ he smirked as he took your bag and walked with you and Max to the car.
You knew that he hated getting his hair cut with this style and couldn’t help but tease him.
‘I just love that I will get to meet your entire family while having this ridiculous haircut’ Cillian chuckled.
‘Trust me, at least three of my cousins get their hair cut the same way. You won’t be noticed as the odd one out’ you laughed.
‘Great, if I put on the accent, no doubt I will blend right in, eh?’ Cillian chuckled.
‘Well, you can stay in character over the weekend if you want’ you laughed before giving him another kiss as you arrived at the car.
‘You know, I really missed you’ you said with a warm smile as you sat down in the driver seat.
‘You are driving, are you?’ Cillian smiled before telling you that he missed you also and giving you another even longer kiss than before.
‘Yikes, can you stop this’ Max said with some embarrassment. He had gotten to the age where he thought that kissing was disgusting and girls were silly.
After you both chuckled about Max’s comment, you were on your way to Birmingham.
While you were driving, Cillian exclaimed that he was nervous about meeting your parents after they were already disapproving of your relationship.
What he also didn’t know that you never mentioned to your family what he was doing for a living. Unless your grandmother told them, they might be lightly surprised. But, the topic had never come up after, every time you and your father talked about your relationship, you ended up hanging up on him when he started to argue with you.
Nonetheless, you reassured Cillian that your parents will come around once they met him and see how happy you are together.
The Moment of Truth
After an almost 2 hour drive you finally arrived at your parent’s house.
‘Hi darling, how are you?’ your mum said as she hugged both you and Max at the same time before introducing herself to Cillian.
‘You must be Cillian. It’s nice to meet you’ your mum said as she shook Cillian’s hand.
‘Likewise, Mrs Y/LN’ Cillian responded with a warm smile just as your father walked through the hallway and greeted you and Max.
‘I am Y/N’s father’ he said somewhat sternly before shaking Cillian’s hand.
‘Cillian, nice to meet you’ Cillian said politely.
‘I figured. Now come on in’ your father said as it was rather cold.
Your mother was quick to disappear with Max and you quickly instructed her to give him too many lollies before dinner.
‘He looks somewhat familiar’ your father exclaimed to you while Cillian closed the car just as your youngest brother came walking through the hallway to approach you.
He immediately noticed Cillian and looked at him with some surprise.
‘No fucking way’ Brendan said all of a sudden while his eyes widened, causing him to receive a nudge from your father.
‘Language Son’ your father said firmly, causing Cillian to chuckle before he introduced himself.
‘I know man. Me and my friends love Peaky Blinders’ your brother said before introducing himself to Cillian.
Your father looked at your brother with some confusion until it clicked and he realised that Cillian was, in fact, part of the TV show he had been watching occasionally with your brother.
Your sister soon approached you as well and greeted you with a hug. She also introduced herself to Cillian. You had spoken with her about in him on several occasions previously and there was no surprise. Nonetheless, her first question was whether Cillian could introduce her to Finn Cole, causing Cillian to laugh.
After some introductions and small talk, your father showed you to your respective rooms and it became evident to you that he had arranged for you to share a room with Max while he had allocated a separate room to Cillian.
‘Dad, that’s a joke, right? You do realise we live together?’ you asked, while Cillian remained quiet about the situation.
‘And yet you aren’t married, so you will not be staying in the same bedroom at my house’ your father said, causing you to take a deep breath.
‘We should have booked a bloody hotel, that’s ridiculous’ you said.
‘Fine by me’ your father said before walking off.
‘Y/N, it’s two nights and Max hasn’t seen his grandparents for a while. We should stay for him, yeah?’ Cillian said quietly and you nodded reluctantly. As usual, Cillian was comforting and loving despite your father’s dislike for him.
‘I am so sorry Cilly, I don’t know what his problem is’ you said.
‘It’s alright Y/N. He is just being protective of you and that’s a good thing. I am sure he will come around’ Cillian said as he took you into his arms.
‘I know. It’s just that I am 25 years old and cannot sleep in the same bedroom as my boyfriend. It’s so ridiculous’ you said somewhat upset. After all, you wanted to be with Cillian desperately, share a bed together and possibly have some intimacy.
‘I know’ Cillian chuckled before giving you a gentle kiss.
‘I cannot wait another two nights to be with you. It’s been three weeks since we slept together last and the Skype thing is really not the same’ you said suggestively as you ran your hand over his crotch hoping that no would walk through the hallway and catch you.
‘Y/N, stop. I don’t think your father would appreciate it if he saw us like this’ Cillian chuckled trying to push your hand away.
‘I tell you what, I will come to your room after everyone goes to sleep. Just for a bit’ you smirked trying to reach inside his pants, causing Cillian to get fidgety and laugh at the same time.
‘That’s a bad idea Y/N’ Cillian chuckled.
‘Why is that?’ you asked before telling Cillian that you have needs.
‘Firstly, this is your parents’ house and I do not want to disrespect their wishes. Secondly, you aren’t exactly quiet when we have sex and, thirdly, you told me on the way here that you forgot your pill the last couple of days when you stayed with your grandmother in Galway’ Cillian said.
‘Well, you will just have to pull out in time’ you winked, knowing very well that he had exceptional self-control after you found yourself in the same situation the previous months when you forgot to take it. After that, it had gotten to the point where Cillian reminded you to take it as you weren’t exactly consistent and somewhat forgetful, which also made you schedule a doctor’s appointment in two weeks to discuss other options in so far as contraception was concerned.
Just as your quick conversation with Cillian was nearing the end, your mother called out to you both to tell you that dinner was ready.
‘Coming’ you yelled out as you removed your hand from the inside of Cillian’s pants.
‘Thanks…gotta hide that now’ Cillian chuckled as he rearranged his pants so that his erection would be hidden beneath the large jumper he was wearing.
You giggled and both made your way to the dining room.
Dinner Interrogations
During dinner, your father managed to step out of line completely when he asked Cillian whether he always dated women much younger than him.
Luckily, Cillian remained polite and answered his question regardless of its inappropriateness.
‘No. In fact, I was reluctant about the age difference between us at first’ Cillian exclaimed.
‘Well, I was just asking since, with many actors, that’s the norm, dating women half their age’ your father said.
‘It is?’ Cillian asked surprised, causing you to laugh but your father didn’t appreciate the sarcasm.
The conversation soon escalated and Cillian excused himself and offered you to put Max to bed so that you can catch up with your sister and mother.
It was obvious to you that your father and Cillian didn’t see eye to eye and Cillian tried best to remain calm and keep the peace for your sake.
He joined you and your family again after putting Max to bed and, by that time, your father had received a lecture from your mother and was up to his second glass of wine. Things went much more smoothly thereafter and your parents also excused themselves at 9pm to go to bed.
Cillian went on to have a shower before giving you kiss and returning to the room that was assigned to him. He knew you would join him shortly. After all, he knew you well and he found it rather difficult to deny you especially when you were aching for him. You were a rather sexual person and demanding when it came to intimacy.
And just like this, after you had a shower and checked on Max, you sneaked into his room wearing nothing but your panties.
Cillian was lying in bed with a novel, wearing his Calvin Klein briefs and reading glasses. The beside table lamp was dimming the room nicely and his muscular chest was highlighted by the shimmering light.
‘Good Evening Professor’ you giggled as you immediately jumped on top of him. You loved when he was wearing his reading glasses.
Cillian put his book aside and pulled you close for passionate kiss before taking off his glasses.
‘I love you, you know that?’ he said quietly and you nodded in response.
‘I love you too Cillian’ you said before kissing him again passionately before lifting up your hips to take off your panties.
There wasn’t much time for foreplay and you certainly didn’t need any. After three weeks, you were desperate for him and he was desperate for you.
You quickly threw the blanket to the ground and helped him out of his briefs before pushing him backwards so that he would lie flat on the mattress.
You climbed on top of him before you kissed again, fast, desperate and passionately.
‘Don’t forget to pull out’ you smirked just before your body began to slowly lower itself onto his Cillian’s lap, the head of his cock pushing against your opening.
He was hard, harder than he had been in a while. It was obvious to you how much he simply wanted to be inside of you.
The lips of your mound were slick, covered by your juices and the precum that had pooled at the tip of his cock.
As you moved your body further down, he penetrated you without resistance, relishing the wet, soft and warm grip of your opening.
You were just as tight as he remembered and a soft growl fell from his lips. Your walls contracted around him as he entered you inch by inch. It almost felt like a vice-grip, and the fact that he didn't immediately cum right there after three weeks of abstinence was a miracle.
You also couldn't believe how good it felt, after three weeks. You needed this desperately and you no longer cared about the fact that your parents were staying in the next room.
‘Hmm, I missed this’ you moaned quietly as more and more of his cock filled you.
Finally, your shapely ass rested on his legs, the entirety of Cillian’s cock throbbing inside you.
‘I missed this too babe’ Cillian whispered as you leaned in and kissed him deeply, pressing your small perky breasts against his chest.
You raised yourself slightly before lowering yourself back onto his hard member.
Cillian kept both hands on your hips, guiding you as you rhythmically bounced on his lap.
You felt yourself getting lost in all of this and your moans soon became uncontrolled, causing Cillian to gently place his hand over your mouth for a few seconds to muffle the sounds you were making.
‘You need to be quiet’ he instructed as the feeling of him being inside of you was almost dizzying.
You tried the best you could to remain quiet, but your efforts were futile as your humping grew erratic while you nuzzled your face into Cillian’s neck.
Cillian wrapped his arms around you and started to both lift you and thrust up, taking control of your movements.
His cock was slamming into you now, the sound of your ass cheeks being clapped competing with the squeaking of the bed.
Neither of you cared any longer as you got lost in each other. Surely, your family was fast asleep by now.
‘Cillian, fuck’ you whispered in between laboured moans as you moved in sync with each other and the head of his cock hit your cervix over and over again. His length filled you perfectly and it felt as though he was all the way inside your stomach.
As you rode him for what felt like an eternity, you could soon begin to feel your orgasm approach hard and fast and, whilst you usually tried to draw it out, you didn’t that night.
You came hard and forcefully, your body shaking as you did everything in your power not to scream and moan.
As your orgasm washed over you, Cillian once again covered your mouth to stop you from screaming out involuntarily. Usually, you were loud in the bedroom, so loud that you had recently been questioned by one of the children as to whether something was wrong.
Cillian made you feel so good that you lost control and his hand muffled the screams that escaped you as your walls contracted around him, squeezing his hard cock tightly as you orgasmed.
The sound of your panting and contraction of your tight walls around his cock pushed Cillian close to the edge as well. In fact, he was dangerously close.
While you rode out your orgasm, his was approaching, fast and hard and his cock started to pulse inside you.
‘Y/N stop’ Cillian said quietly as he held still, trying to reduce the pleasure you were giving him. But, you were in a trance, still consumed by your orgasm after three weeks of abstinence, and continued to move up and down on top of him.
‘Y/N, you need to stop… Fuck’ Cillian panted in between involuntary groans as he could feel himself throbbing inside of you rapidly. He could not hold back any longer.
You finally realised what was happening when you felt his hands grip your waist, trying to move you off him and asking you to stop once again.
‘Fuck Y/N’ Cillian moaned as you quickly moved your body upwards, allowing him to pull out of you and, just in that moment, he came hard and fast.
You tried your best to quickly collect his hot and sweet seed with your mouth as you had planned. After all, this was something you enjoyed doing a lot. But, your efforts were partially futile and you would certainly have to find a way to discreetly wash the sheets tomorrow without your parents noticing. There was a lot, defiantly more than usual.
‘Close call’ you giggled after swallowing what you had collected and licking your lips suggestively before lying down next to Cillian.
‘Too fucking close Y/N’ Cillian said, still panting. ‘You won’t be going on top the next time you want me to pull out’ he said.
‘I am sorry. I just totally lost control’ you said as you curled up against Cillian’s chest.
‘I could tell. I hope your parents didn’t hear you’ he said with a slight chuckle before kissing you gently.
That night, you really wanted to stay with him, but you knew that you couldn’t and, after another few minutes of kisses and cuddles, you returned to your room quietly.
When you returned to your room you decided to change into your comfortable snoopy pyjamas which your mum had given you. They weren’t exactly sexy, but warm.
But, just as you stepped out of your black lace panties, you noticed a small amount of shimmery white liquid on the inside of them.
Hoping that it wasn’t what you thought it was, you ran your finger through your wet slit in anguish and observed a little more of it.
Perhaps the close call was too close after all.

at night, i throughly enjoy haunting the dark halls of my grandparents’ large, old, drafty southern home, reading latin i’ve learned and some translated greek while the strange tall candles my grandmother likes cast long shadows on the walls. all the other family members are asleep in their designated beds and floor-bound air mattresses while i wander about barefooted, tattered wooden floors creaking under my weight. i can hear the nearby train’s whistle as it crawls across the tracks occasionally through the night. i thought my grandfather caught me last night in the kitchen, but he did his bidding and left with a wild ‘i didn’t see you there’ look. this morning, he was washing dishes and asked the room why there was a milk glass in the sink, so i can only assume he saw nothing.
i haunt these halls mostly for my own enjoyment, but also in hopes one day i will see her again. the pretty woman in what i can only assume is her wedding dress. last i saw her i was around five, and all i can remember was how frighteningly beautiful was she was. i had woken up at some untimely hour of the night, alone, and plucked myself out of bed to get my grandmother. i exited the converted dayroom and arrived at the entrance to the long hallway when i saw her. floating, next to the staircase, she was about 4 feet off the ground and staring down at me. alarmed, i froze and took in her ghostly pale face, long dark hair covered in a veil, victorian-esque white dress with lacy detailing, and the bundle she had wrapped tightly in her arms. i was only knee-high at the time, so i was rightfully frightened, and ran back into my bed.
a few years later, our whole family were sitting together at breakfast when one of my cousins mentioned a nightmare he had the previous night about a old-looking woman wearing white. i perked up and asked him to explain what she looked like. he described her exactly as i had seen her years before, and before i could say so, my other two cousins butted in and said they had already had dreams about her too while staying here. chalking it up as a weird phenomenon, or childlike falsification, no one has mentioned the strange occurrence since.
however, i wish to know. i have a need to meet this woman. i want to know her and her child’s story, so i haunt. chalking it up to insomnia when confronted about my over-sleeping the next morning, i wander and saunter in hopes we will cross paths once again.

“I like to pretend that you ran away, that you’re living on an island and have a garden and a dog and that your brothers drop by to bring you groceries and books and that you are very happy and free.” - S.C. Pacheco
It happened so quickly. No one saw it coming, but then again, does anyone ever really see death coming?
You were preparing for finals. It was the last two weeks of your first year at college and you had been studying non stop. You were going to end this year with a bang and have a great extended summer without worry in your head.
Then, the phone call happened. It was so unexpected. Dad called and asked if you were alone. Thankfully, your psychology class was on a five minute break and you were out in the hallway. Dad immediately said that he didn’t know how to break it to you gently so he was just going to say it. Following his statement, he told you how your great grandmother had a stroke and she had about a day to a month to live. The hallway stood still and the chatter of classrooms ceased into nothing.
Tears had welled up in your eyes and began to flow down your face. Nothing stopped them as your dad kept telling you about everything that happened. Your grandparents, uncles, aunts, and even your mom went to the hospital to see her. It was a two hour drive. Your dad had said that your mother was going to bring you home when all of your classes were done, for the day, so you could be in an area of comfort. The only reason he said that was because the history of your mental health wasn't the best at all. The previous two weeks were spent being in bed because the stress of school began to weigh heavily in your chest.
The weight in your chest had lessened over the past few days but the news of your great grandmother brought it back. Your face was red as the tears kept flowing from your eyes. Dad said he loved you before letting you hang up. Your whimpers and scattered breathing echoed in the hallway. Hot tears dripped from your chin and onto your sweater as you ran into the bathroom. Thankfully it was empty and you were able to let out your cries. The yellow lights flickered as you fell to your knees. She was your only great grandmother and she loved you greatly. Everyone told you that you were special because you were her eldest great granddaughter. The passing quote in your head practically made you scream out in confusion and upset.
Many minutes passed before your psychology teacher burst into the bathroom. She found you on the floor, face wet with tears. Immediately she came to your side and began shushing you while wrapping her arms around you. The only words you could cry out were “She’s dying and I’m not there.” After that, the day fuzzed into nothing. Your close friend had to come and get you for your other classes. She told your teachers how you were leaving early in the week because your great grandmother was dying. Thankfully, your teachers understood and gave you extensions on every assignment that was late.
Later in the evening, your mother came to get you. The car ride was very quiet and so was the weekend. It was spent with you occasionally crying while listening to your family plan her funeral. It was also spent with you remembering your childhood in her house.
The smells and sounds lingered in your mind constantly. Sometimes you’d hear the ghost of her grandfather clock when you couldn’t sleep.
Sadly, you couldn’t sleep most days. A week came and went and you were in the start of your finals week. It was three days filled with exams. Tuesday was the first day of exams. Thankfully, there was only one exam. When class was over, your teacher asked to speak with you. She gave you an enormous hug and told you that you passed her class. With tears forming in your eyes she told you that your great grandmother would be very proud. After that, she wished you the best in life and you went back to your dorm with your close friend.
As if on cue, your phone rang. When you picked it up you immediately could tell it was your dad. He told you that your great grandmother passed in her sleep early that morning. You knew this news was coming but no amount of preparation could prepare you to hear that. Tears fell from your eyes as he told you to get through the next few days before moving out and coming home. You both said, “I love you.” before hanging up.
Later that night, you cried until the sun gently arose over the tall evergreen trees. The next few days were spent in a daze. Your friends comforted you and told you that they’d always be there for you as you cried and wanted to go home. You took your exams and packed up your room and left the college. You were so happy to leave with your mother and go home for the summer. However, the shadow of grief clung to your skirt the entire time, even as the evening turned into night and then stretched into morning.
With sad eyes, you had looked into the mirror as you applied your makeup and got dressed for her funeral. The dress you wore was long sleeved and it just about touched the ground. You sighed. It was going to be a long drive through the flat farmland to get to the town of your childhood. When your family got to the old cemetery, your father told you that it was a beautiful day for her to be laid to rest.
And it was. It really was. The sun was shining, there were no clouds, and the gentle breeze turned your warm tears cold. Birds and butterflies fluttered around the graves and danced with each other. Even as the priest recited the carefully picked words, you thought of how it was a beautiful day. When he was done speaking, your mother held you as you cried. She let go when she began to cry uncontrollably. Your younger cousins came to your side and wept with you as you walked amongst your sleeping ancestors and extended family.
At the end of the funeral, you tearfully kissed her headstone goodbye and whispered to your great grandfather that you know they're happy now, laying side by side. When you got into the car to go back to Santa Carla, you cried until you dozed off under the warm afternoon sun.
Before you had left for the whole ordeal, you called David and told him about everything that had happened. He knew that your great grandmother had a stroke and that your whole family was stricken with grief. He also knew that you had never experienced grief or the process of mourning. So, he made a promise that when you came back he would stay by your side. You gave a huff into the payphone as he told you that he would do anything to ease the process. Before hanging up, you asked if it would be okay if you could stay at the cave for a couple of days. He told you yes and that he loved you before hanging up.
When your family finally got back to the house, you immediately fled to your room. Your parents didn’t want to bother you so they left you alone. They didn’t know that you were going to spend a few days at the cave. Infact, they didn’t know you were dating David. Your parents just thought he was a college friend.
Grabbing a bag, you began shoving clothes into it. You grabbed a few necessities and put those in there as well. When you figured you had everything, you heard David's bike outside. However, before you left, you noticed your great grandmother's ring on your dresser. It was given to you on your sixteenth birthday. It was an heirloom that was passed down from your great grandmother. When she first saw you wearing it, she had complimented how you reminded her of her younger self. While looking at the ring, your hand flew to the pearl choker that was resting around your neck. They were hers as well.
You grabbed the ring and slipped it on your ring finger before leaving. Your parents must’ve gone to bed because the house was dark and their bedroom door was shut. In the kitchen, you pulled out a notepad and wrote down that you were going to be with friends for a few days.
You left your house and noticed David was at the end of your driveway. He had a cigarette in his mouth and he was looking at your neighbors house.
“David.” you called gently. His head whipped towards you and a smirk appeared on his lips. His fingers came up and took the cigarette from his lips. When you walked to him, he gently pulled you close and gave you a quick kiss. When you pulled away, his hand came up to your cheek. You looked up at him in the moonlight and could see that his face was laced with concern as his eyes studied your face.
“Hop on kitten, let’s go to the cave.” he said, as his hand fell from your face. You got on behind him and when you wrapped your arms around him he began to drive through the night. Usually, you would be happy and laughing with David as he drove erratically to get you excited. He loved hearing you shout as he would go over hills but tonight was quiet. Of course he knew why. You were grieving and he wasn’t expecting you to do any of that. When you asked to stay at the cave, he was honestly surprised.
However, part of you felt like you needed to shout and laugh. You had mentally prepared for her death for a week and now it was hours after the funeral. Part of you begged to be left alone with your ever changing mind and the other part wanted to be with David in his arms as you two laughed and talked trash about the people of Santa Carla.
Instead, your face was resting against his back as he drove to the cave. The night was clear and the moon was bright. In the serenity of the night you closed your eyes. Your eyes were irritated at how much you had been crying and you hoped that tonight David wouldn’t see you cry. He had never seen you cry and you wanted to keep it that way. You always stayed happy and energetic around him. Sometimes you could hear David whisper that he loved your spark when he thought you were asleep. He didn’t know that your great grandmother repeated the same thing many years ago.
You sighed as you felt David’s bike slow to a stop. Opening your eyes, you saw that the both of you were at one of the entrances to the cave. He parked his bike next to the three others and turned it off. Carefully, you unwrapped your arms from him as he got off. As you got off, David offered his hand and you took it. When you stood next to him, hand in hand, he kissed your forehead. You smiled at the affection and he led you down into the cave.
“I know you won’t mind but, me and the guys are going to go feed when you get inside. I’ll change my clothes before coming back” David said, as he led you through the tunnel. You hummed and looked ahead at the gentle glowing light ahead. In the main area of the cave you could hear the noises of the other boys. David’s grip on your hand tightened as you came to the steep slope that led to the main area. The first time he brought you here, you slipped going down. You smiled at the cherished memory as you carefully walked down. Thankfully, this time you made it to the bottom.
“Hey David, hey Scoob” Marko said, looking up as you and David walked into the main area of the cave. You scoffed as David let go of your hand.
“How many times do I have to tell you to not call me that?” you asked, as David walked over towards the others. Marko gave you a teasing smile as Paul came from god knows where. Dwayne followed after him and the two joined the others.
“Anyways, I think you guys should get a move on. I can tell you’re antsy.” you said. David was breathing a bit more heavily than usual and you knew that was his body telling him to eat. Without word, the boys turned and walked away to one of the many exits. As the others ascended into the night, David turned to look at you. It was his way of saying goodbye but you also knew he was asking a question.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” you said, grabbing your bag. Without speaking, he too turned away and followed the others.
You sighed as you watched him leave. It wasn’t your first time alone in the cave. Sometimes, they would go out and feed while you slept and you’d wake up in an empty nest. But, right now, you needed to be alone to just breathe. So, you went down one of the hallways to your little sanctuary. Months ago, you found a little safe haven in the depths of the cave. It was your little room and it was filled with things you found and liked. As you walked down the dim path, you could see the curtains in the doorway. Carefully, when you stood in front of them, you pushed them aside and stepped into the little safe haven. It was dark, but thankfully you had candles in different places around the room. Setting your stuff down on the bed, you grabbed your lighter from your dress pocket. You carefully lit the candles and adjusted them to keep from scorching other objects.
When you were finished you plopped down onto the mattress that was covered in blankets and pillows. You didn’t know how long it had been since you last slept. The nights were spent with you crying until you couldn’t but by morning, you were ready to repeat the whole cycle.
It sucked. Grief wasn’t supposed to be like this. Many people told you that after a few days, everything would go back to normal. Well, you wanted the feeling to go away immediately. You hated this neverending feeling of sadness. It was like a child clinging to their mother’s skirt.
One of the worst parts of it all was the day going through your head. You couldn’t stop thinking about her funeral. Was this normal? To constantly think of the funeral? Was it also normal to cry so much? You just couldn’t understand the whole grief process at all.
Gently, you got up from the mattress and walked over to the old mirror that David found for you. The candles in the room gave your features a warm glow in the mirror. You looked at your face and how it changed. You looked different. The shadows under your eyes had darkened and your eyes looked irritated. Glancing down to the pearl choker, you felt your throat tighten. The words of the past week began to echo loudly in your head.
She wouldn’t want you to fuss over her.
Even the brightest stars have to dim.
She loved you. She loved you greatly.
Then the tears came. They came so fast that you were honestly scared by them. They fell down your face as a sob escaped your mouth.
It wasn’t fair. None of it was. The pain in your body felt amplified as you sank to the floor. The worst part of it all was you couldn’t stop thinking of her. The way she kissed your cheeks when she saw you and when you left. The way her hands gently ran through your hair as you slept in her lap as a child. How she would sneakily give you chocolates after Christmas dinner and not tell anyone. Her mischievous smile flashed in your mind and it only made you cry harder. Why, why, why? Why did she have to die?
______
From the entrance of the cave, David stood still. Your sadness had reverberated through the cave like a loud radio. He couldn’t hear you but he felt the grief. Slowly, he walked to your room. He had forgotten how grief felt. It was a horrible feeling that he never wanted to experience again. However, he wanted to comfort you the best he could. As he got closer to your room, he could hear you. He heard the rapid beating of your heart as you let your emotions out. When he stood in front of the curtain, he hesitated. Would you want him in there?
David brushed the thought aside as he remembered that it was your first time with grief. He could practically smell the confusion and anger from your tears. Quickly, he opened the curtains and stepped into your room. On the farthest side of the room, you were leaning against the wall as you were trying to catch your breath. Your face was red and wet with tears. The eyeliner you wore was smudged around your eyes and David could see where it had trailed.
When you had calmed down just a little, David cleared his throat. Immediately, you turned around and met his still face. He held no emotion as he looked at your tragic form.
“Get out.” you said, quickly wiping your face. David did not move from his spot. Instead, he walked towards you.
“David, get out! I don’t want you to see me like this!” You yelled, as you turned away to shield yourself from him. He said nothing as he came behind you and wrapped his arms around you. It was so gentle that it almost didn’t seem like David. Again, you tried to say something else but it died on your lips. Instead a whimper came out as you fell to the floor and David gently fell with you. He kept your back pressed against his chest as you kept crying.
“I-I’m sorry.” you mumbled through your tears. David’s face nuzzled your neck as you wept uncontrollably.
“It’s okay. I’m right here.” he quietly said against your skin as you kept trying to steady your breathing. After a few minutes, you had calmed down enough but tears still kept falling down your face.
David listened as your heartbeat kept getting calmer by the minute. It was a soothing sound to him.
“Are you okay?” he asked, looking at your face. You scoffed, “No, but I’ll live.” you mumbled quietly. David hummed at your response.
“David, I hate this.” you stated with a sniffle. He perked up at your words and listened carefully.
“I hate everything about grief, I hate the confusion, I hate the sleepless nights, I hate the crying and I-” you cut off the sentence as you tried to not go into another crying fit. Taking in a shaky breath, you continued, “And I hate that I don’t know what to do. This whole process fucking sucks.”
David sighed and kissed your cheek. “You’re still in the early stages of grief. It’s confusing and it’s scary to go through. Especially by yourself.” he explained calmly, “One of the best things you can do is try to think of all of the good things that happened in her life. I detest seeing you this way, but I know it’s something you have to go through.” he finished.
You sighed and wiped your face, “But, why does it have to hurt so damn bad?” you asked, turning to try and look at his face. David moved back so he could look you in the eye.
“It hurts because you lost someone you loved. Your mind can’t understand how life will be different without her. Eventually, you’ll understand how to live life like before and carry on again.” he replied, calmly.
His eyes fell to the pearl choker around your neck and his hands moved to take it off. You didn’t object to the feeling of his cold hands as they fumbled with the clasp. Carefully, he took it off and moved to set it somewhere else. “Lets move to the mattress, hm?” David suggested. You nodded and the two of you got up and went to lay down together on the mattress. Instead of laying next to you, David was sitting next to you.
You closed your eyes when your back hit the soft blankets. It was comforting but you didn’t want to sleep even though your body was begging for it. You were just scared of what you would dream of.
“Would you like me to take off your ring?” David asked, holding your hand up to his face. You quirked your eyebrow at him. “Why would I need to take off her ring?” you asked sitting up. David rolled his eyes, “You don’t want it to fall off while you sleep. It might get lost.” he said, meeting your gaze.
“Uh, it won’t get lost while I sleep because I’m not going to sleep.” you replied, moving your hand away from his.
David scoffed at your words, “Kitten, this isn’t up for debate. I know you haven’t slept in days and it’s not healthy for you.” he argued, moving his hands to your face.
“David, I don’t need you to tell me what to do.” You declared. He looked down at you. His eyes were serious and you could tell that he was getting annoyed with this conversation.
“You are going to sleep and I don’t care if you refuse. I’m going to do this anyways” he said, finally. Before you could answer, you slipped into a deep sleep. Your body fell back onto the mattress and David was satisfied. He didn’t like using his vampire powers on you but, he felt like this was necessary. He looked down at your hand and carefully pulled the ring off. David got up from the mattress and set the ring down next to the pearl choker. He looked down at your sleeping form and smirked before laying down next to you. Tonight, all would be well for a while.
