IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED ABOUT MY HCS‼️‼️

Idk which Legos you were referring to so I will make a HC post for Ninjago characters since it’s what I’m currently hyperfixating on.

Buckle in for an extremely long post because I am insane. Cutting it to keep it organized for u guys 🫶

So one thing about me is that I love incorporating other people’s headcanons into my own. And sometimes that leads to some contradicting headcanons, so in my little brain I have like, multiple different sets of headcanons for a bunch of different characters while also having My Headcanons, those being the ones I believe in the most/came up with without outside influence. I will be listing My Headcanons, but I type that entire preface to explain why some of my posts might be contradictory of the headcanons I list here 🫶

It’s gonna go like this in no particular order. (The order of how excited I am to share my hcs for them)

Their eye color aligns with their element, they all have their natural eye colors, but after realizing/unlocking their elemental powers, they began to change.

Adding onto the above hc, Kai and Nya's eyes are still pretty dull due to them being like, the last two to realize their powers, while Jay's are extremely bright and vibrant.

Jay- she/they (occasionally he) transfem + gender-fluid, bisexual

Hard of hearing, wears hearing aids. I think the hearing loss has always been there, but I think her elemental power just worsened it, bc you know. Thunder loud.

That being said, I think she was the first to get her elemental powers. I think they got them when she was like, a really really young kid.

Has heterochromia.

Came out as trans like, mid-prime empire.

Has psychosis and suffers from delusions.

Not rlly a Jay hc, but related. Their mom gave them up because she was desperately hoping they wouldn't have an elemental power, but if she did, they'd be near unfindable because she lived through hell and didn't want Jay to have to go through the same.

AuDHD

Nya- she/they transfem nonbinary, bisexual demiromantic

Has a tremor after un-merging with the ocean.

Her and Kai both have pretty bad anger issues.

SHE CAN BREATHE UNDERWAAAATTTEEERRRRR I believe she can ok?

For a long time after Hands Of Time she hates the way she looks because of how much she looks like her mom.

Still holds a heavy resentment against their parents, because even though it wasn't their choice to leave, them and Kai still had to grow up alone.

Fucking hates the taste of cinnamon.

Has time blindness, but only after un-merging with the ocean. She became disoriented and confused about the passage of time after being the ocean for so long.

Sometimes they still feel pulled back to the water.

Best friends with Cole (I believe this one wholeheartedly)

ADHD

Lloyd- he/they nonbinary, aroace

Has insomnia, and a sleepwalking problem when he can get to sleep.

Looked fairly human when he was young, but as he got older, his Oni and Dragon features started showing more.

The feelings he felt for Harumi was mostly confusion because she was the first girl he got close to that didn't have what felt like an 'older sister' role in his life.

Really likes bugs.

Has auditory processing disorder.

Their body doesn't regulate temperature regularly.

Religiously watches iceberg videos.

Likes wearing more loose fitting, baggy clothing.

High-empathy autistic.

Kai- he/him transman, bisexual

He and Nya both have pretty bad anger issues.

He likes occasionally dressing femininely, but usually decides against it because he’s afraid people won’t take him seriously.

Has burn scars that go pretty far up his arms due to his own elemental power.

Extremely high body heat, has to wear gloves to avoid burning people at the touch.

Has a pretty bad memory due to constant concussions (his ass got beat to shit CONSTANTLY)

Was stealth trans for a while, because he wanted people to take him seriously, but stopped caring after a while and is extremely open about his identity.

Has a deep paranoia that he’s going to hurt the people he cares about, and is constantly over correcting at ever little mistake.

After the events of DOTD he has to use a mobility aid for a while while he gets accustomed to having a body again.

Body-image issues.

He feels like he’s supposed to be in charge of keeping everyone safe.

Best friends with Nya and Vania (I believe in this one SO hard.)

He loves cooking, and is very defensive about it. NOBODY is allowed in the kitchen while he's cooking (except Nya she's his taste tester).

Has constant night terrors and has a very detailed sleep routine to avoid them.

Super good with kids.

Girls girl (gender neutral).

OCD + ADHD.

Zane- they/them agender, panromantic ace

Will sometimes pick up little crafts or projects, jack of all trades type vibe.

Is actually SUPER up to date with every single internet trend or meme.

Can't taste (bc they're a nindroid...) but fr thought for years that all food just had no taste until the robot reveal and they're like 'ohh'

Has constantly wildly shifting morals.

Genuinely the scariest of the group, sometimes freaking out everyone else. This makes them sad. They present themselves in such a way to make them approachable.

Has a tendency to blame themself when everything goes wrong.

Refuses to talk about their feelings to anyone else, bottling it up.

Autistic.

Pixal- any pronouns agender, unlabeled ace

Runs every single online forum about the ninja, none of them know.

Always has to feel useful, or she gets stressed out easily.

Listens to podcasts when he works.

Wildly defensive.

Felt a little unworthy of the Samurai X title when nobody knew it was them.

Low-empathy autistic.

Skylor- she/they, lesbian

True neutral (generally looks out for herself, doesn't really do things for the greater good, but for her own sake)

Doesn't remember her mom at all, she passed away when she was extremely young.

After the events of S4 she completely uprooted her life, changed literally everything about herself to disconnect herself from her father. Renamed the noodle shop, and completely rewrote the menu.

Makes most of her own clothes.

Picked up painting, is insanely good at it.

Slightly self destructive, constantly trying to distance themself from the ninja, but Kai always drags her back.

Realized her elemental power at a very young age, mostly because of her father.

BPD + CPTSD.

Vania- she/fae/it/he transwoman, lesbian aromantic

Very talkative.

Writes to Cole a lot (she has both a phone and his phone number it just likes writing to him).

Plays a lot of instruments, faer favorites being the harp and the violin.

Extremely anxious that she's not going to be a good queen, constantly overcorrecting.

Really indecisive and always changing his mind.

AuDHD

Harumi- she/he bigender, pansexual

Probably bites people.

Because of how sheltered she was with the royal family, she doesn't know a lot of basic life skills, and had to teach herself near everything she knows.

He did learn how to sew, and mends his own clothes.

Has albinism.

Always blaming her problems on other people, that being a product of the extreme pressure he was under when princess.

ADHD + CPTSD.

Sora- she/they/various neos transfem, lesbian

Always has to be busy, or she will start spiraling.

Wildly protective of Arin.

Was constantly getting into fights in the early days of living in the crossroads, very quickly learned they'd have to constantly fight to survive.

Talks about xer childhood like 'haha yeah it be how it be :)' and everyone listening is completely horrified.

Views everyone she meets as a threat until they prove they aren't.

Really likes reading, her favorite genre being sci-fi.

Does some creative writing, but has never shown anyone her writing.

Love language is quality time.

Since realizing their elemental power, she's had a tremor in her hands. She hates it.

Low-empathy autistic + OCD.

Arin- he/they transmasc, unlabeled aroace

Needs people to be in the kitchen when he bakes, he's very social.

Has read Sora's writing, (she doesn't know) he finds some comfort in it.

Can hold her own in a fight for a surprisingly long time (I know this is not canon compliant, let me be delusional)

How f-ed up Hanna's life is.

the other day i was thinking about Hanna's backstory, life, and things that happen to her once she joins the ninja (surprise surprise). and i realized, i made her life really fucked up...

i swear, only like 40% is projection (kinda).

so i figured i'd share with you all to see if i should tone it down, keep going, or give her more trauma!!!!!

spoilering this for the sake of major ninjago spoilers.

general tw warning. it's a lot that could trigger some people so, read at your own risk.

Background

So if I haven't explained before, I created a fake city in Ninjago, stealing the name of an airport in London bc I thought it sounded Ninjago-ish.

Hanna was born in Heathrowe, the second largest city in Ninjago. Heathrowe is a fashion capital, filled with the rich and famous. It's also where Jay's biological father (Cliff Gordon) lived for the majority of his life in my AU as well since he was an actor. It's also where Cole's parents met.

Hanna's parents are among the rich in Heathrowe, they owning a multi-million dollar Trust company and a multi-million dollar Real estate business. Basically, Hanna is fucking loaded. Because of the nature of the companies her parents own, they are pretty popular in Heathrowe as well.

Childhood (Birth to Age 10)

Hanna, as I mentioned above, grew up in Heathrowe. She was born with naturally black and white hair, her eyes a starkingly metalic silver. As a kid, as in elementary school (about age 5 to age 10), she had a few really close friends and a larger circle of just friends.

To avoid getting bullied, Hanna's parents made her wear a wig with just black hair. They would've dyed her hair instead but Hanna's hair rejects all kinds of dyes. So, she was hiding that part of herself, leading her to have a kind of mental belief she had to be someone she wasn't for the majority of people.

But, for those few friends she had, she didn't wear the wig. They knew about her natural hair and loved it, not seeing her differently for it. Heathrowe is surrounded by dense forests that are thinner closer to the city. That's where Hanna and her friends would play most of the time.

The first time Hanna used her powers was when she was 9. She and her friends were in the forest, playing, when a group of older kids who were bullies of the trio just because they wanted to be, snuck up on them. The bullies threatened Hanna's friends, holding her back so she couldn't do anything.

Just as the bullies were about to hurt the friends, Hanna's powers played up and she ended up giving four of the bullies moderate concussions and leaving the one who was holding her back in critical condition. In this uncontrollable burst of power, Hanna also nearly severely hurt her friends.

This of course meant they were no longer her friends and their parents spread the word that Hanna was a "freak of nature" to the other parents of Hanna's elementary school.

This led Hanna to be the target of a lot of hate from basically everyone at her school. To compensate, Hanna's parents took her out of school once she came home with her belongings stolen.

Once her powers showed up, Hanna's parents worked with her, not to help her control them, but to suppress them, clueless about how much they'd grow during the next few years.

Tween Years (Age 10 to Age 12)

Hanna spent a year being home-schooled, until she moved on from elementary school into middle school (or junior high). It took her parents a lot of convincing but she was able to go without a wig.

She attended Heathrowe Private Junior High School, which was pretty small with at most 400 students between grades 6-8. What Hanna wasn't expecting was for her old best friends to go to that school.

They recognized her and tormented her, spreading nasty rumors about her. Hanna also hit puberty around this time and thus, people started harassing her about her looks.

Her tween years were mostly a lot of isolation socially and of her drifting away from her parents because they got busy.

Teen Years pt1 (Age 13 to Age 15)

Hanna's early teen years were really fucked up. The harassment about her looks got a lot worse as she grew tall really quick and began to grow close to people she misjudged as trustworthy.

A group of girls who were actually jealous of her convinced her to share who she was crushing on, set up a date between the two (Hanna was 14), and filmed her reaction to being rejected and degraded by the guy she was set up with. The assholes posted it on the internet and it went viral, hitting everyone in the school.

So again, the bullying and rumors got worse. Hanna went to her parents but they told her this is what she wanted, to go back to school. Granted, they didn't know the severity of the situation since Hanna didn't share anything.

Then, one day during lunch the group of girls, the guy, and the guy's group of friends basically jumped her, spewing insult after insult at her, publically embarressing her while dozens of people watched and recorded.

Hanna, during this time, did have one true friend. A girl named Victoria knew about what Hanna did, what Hanna could do, and didn't care. Victoria stood up for Hanna only to get ridiculed too. But Victoria didn't care and continued fighting back until the guy struck her, slapping Victoria across the face.

And like before, Hanna's powers reacted before she could stop them, she basically blowing up the entire school because of how much they'd grown. Unfortunately for Hanna, this led to nearly 100 people to be hurt with varying severity. Hanna's powers this time protected Victoria, she helping to snap Hanna out of her trance.

Once she was calm, Hanna passed out and Victoria realized those who still could were still recording. Those who were, half of them were live on social media sites. This meant the entire internet saw what Hanna did, including the school, her parent's clients, and one person who is a lot more relevant to Hanna in the future.

Hanna was expelled from pretty much every single school in Heathrowe and a lot of her parent's clients through both of their companies were pissed, claiming the parents were raising a demon/monster. So, on Hanna's 15th birthday, she was told by her parents she was moving to Ninjago City.

Yes, just her. Hanna's parents stayed behind in Heathrowe, setting Hanna up with weekly allowance payments, housing, and schooling in Ninjago City. Hanna was told it was because if they didn't, their clients would leave. But on the back end, the person I mentioned before threatened Hanna's life.

Of course they didn't tell Hanna and she was led to believe her parents chose money over her. This is where her hatred of her parents comes from. The only person she thought she could trust still, Victoria, was forced to cut ties with Hanna by the same person.

At the ripe age of 15, Hanna was forced to live alone in Ninjago City, a place she'd only been to on vacation. She didn't know anyone and didn't have anyone but herself to turn to.

Teen Years (Age 15 to Age 17)

--This part includes the following seasons: Sons of Garmadon (s8), Hunted (s9), March of the Oni (s10)--

Hanna attended the school her parents had her go to for a little while, until the same kind of rumors and bullying began. Then she withdrew and self educated herself. She spent her older teen years with a lot of resentment for the majority of people, even resenting the Ninja somewhat because she needed saving in Heathrowe but they weren't there.

Despite having the means to be part of Ninjago City's upper class of individuals, Hanna ended up becoming close with the streets of Ninjago City. Because of this, she learned basic defense and accidentally joined the Sons of Garmadon. Of course, she thought it was just a motorcycle enthusiast group since she kinda got thrown into a rebellious phase.

Her main participation in the group occured when it was still small and not on the Ninja's radar. She was 16 and was hanging out with gang members without knowing they were a gang and not just a group of people having fun. During this time in her life, she got the majority of her piercings and bought her first motorcycle, getting direct lessons from Ultraviolet about how to ride.

When the Ninja came back to Ninjago City for the royal address, Hanna had begun to realize she was in over her head and began to drift from the group, instead watching the Ninja pretty closely because she would rather help the Ninja then be a part of a coup. She realized the SoG were bad after she met Mr. E, instantly getting bad vibes from him.

She attended the royal address and from her past experiences, she was able to tell that something was off with Harumi, dealing with people of her kind in the past. She also noticed the Green Ninja (Lloyd) being very close to her. Against her will (she was threatened), Hanna was forced to be involved with the overtake of the Jade Palace, she getting away while the other people of SoG were being arrested.

Hanna also saw how Harumi was taken by the ninja and because the SoG didn't know who was or wasn't arrested, she used that knowledge to go to Skylor, who she'd gotten close with after they both realized they were pretty much parentless.

The two of them camped out in Chen's Noodle House until Lloyd confronted the newly ressurected Garmadon and nearly unalived. They watched the live broadcast and knew that they had to get out of the city ASAP. So, they began packing things up. But, before they could skedaddle, Skylor got a call from Mistake, requesting her help.

Skylor and Hanna had a conversation and planned a few things out. Skylor, who still had connections to the other elemental masters was going to contact them while Hanna rejoined forces with the SoG so she could be a spy for the resistance. She only agreed since she had been using a disguise with the SoG to hide her actual identity. A black wig, tinted glasses, and a mask.

Hanna rejoined the SoG shortly after Garmadon took over the City, apologizing for everything and explaining she was in hiding. Without realizing Garmadon could sense the strength of her powers she didn't tell anyone about, she was made a leader of a squadron of SoG members, in charge of hunting down Lloyd.

Her squad was on the team that worked with Mr. E to corner the resistance. And her squads fall was all planned by her and Skylor so Skylor could help Lloyd and the others get away. Once they were homefree, Hanna split from her group, instructing them to follow Mr. E back to the main base and claimed she was going after the others.

In reality, Hanna was going to the garbage depot to meet up with the resistance. She was met with hesitation since she was introduced as Skylors "person on the inside." Hesitation specifically from Lloyd, which was reasonable but it made getting along hard. The two of them trained together, Lloyd still weak from his injuries in the fight with Garmadon and Hanna not super experienced with fighting made them pair up fairly well.

Though, most spars turned into intense arguements since Hanna could clearly see the doubt in Lloyd's eyes whenever he talked about fighting his father and tried to clue him in, but he was too stubborn to admit it.

She ended up being a front runner in the Resistance's invasion of the Radio Tower. Since Skylor knew about Hanna's powers, she put her directly with Lloyd, the group splitting up into two teams after Garmadon realized his son was in the building.

Cornered, Hanna sacrificed herself by picking a fight with Harumi so that Lloyd could make it to the broadcasting room without much issue. In their fight, Hanna disclosed her being a traitor and only lost because Garmadon crept up on her.

To punish her, they left her in holding cells in the basement of Borg Tower without telling anyone. Harumi specifically was in charge of bringing her food and water just to barely keep her alive. The SoG members trustworthy were allowed to come down and see her, insulting and mentally torturing her.

When Garmadon was taken down and Harumi died, Hanna was left in said cell for five days completely alone without food or water until someone found her. She was sent to the hospital but ended up escaping when she heard them mention calling Hanna's parents.

She was still recovering from her imprisonment when the Oni invaded Ninjago City. Because of being part Harmonizer, the mist of the Oni (idk what it's actually called) didn't affect her and she was forced to be the only survivor in Ninjago City with Oni on consistent patrol.

Hanna was nearly caught when Garmadon and Lloyd went into the mist to destroy the realm crystal. But, she didn't see them as saving the city, more so putting her lift in danger. After the Oni left, Hanna became a social recluse, avoiding all of her old friends and got into a lot of trouble with the law, making her name with the SoG come back to life as a way for the police to identify her since she always wore a disguise.

So, for this chapter of her life, she went through a hell of a lot and found the only way to cope with it to be blaming the ninja and specifically Lloyd.

Echoes of The Echoed (Age 18 to Age 19)

Obviously, spoiler warnings for my fanfic. Thus, I'm doing a bulleted list of her traumas lmao

Bonus positive thing: Gets engaged!!

Post-Merge (Age 22 - Age 24)

Oof. Get ready y'all.

Hanna lands in the center of Ninjago City after the Merge concludes without any idea of where the others are. She is completely alone in a sea of terrified and equally confused people. Overwhelmed, she runs away and hides. From afar, Hanna helps Ninjago City with the beginnings of rebuilding after the Merge like helping people clean their homes and keeping the streets free of crime.

About a month or so after the Merge, Hanna finds out she's pregnant. At this point, she's begun to assume the other ninja have died. So, she finds out she's pregnant with her dead soulmates baby.

Unfortunately for her, keeping Ninjago City relatively crime free put a target on her back. She knows this and decides to go look for Lloyd. To make sure she wasn't followed, Hanna burns her GI and cuts her hair really short and buys a black wig.

She travels for a few months with no luck then moves to the Crossroads where she meets a doula from a different world that actually knows about Harmonizers. Then, disaster hits.

Hanna is around 5 months pregnant when a gang leader from Ninjago City finds her when she was on the way back from the doctors appointment where she learned her babys gender. The gang leader sees Hanna is pregnant and decides to punish her for putting the majority of his gang away by punching her right in the stomach.

Hanna has a brutal miscarriage, and while still going through it, she runs into the same guy and nearly kills him. Hanna is forced to flee the Crossroads, deciding to give her apartment to two kids she knew we're looking for a better place, Sora and Arin.

Hanna then spends a few more months traveling, looking for any signs she wasn't the only Ninja who survived. She runs into the Claws of Imperium and she ends up changing her path to trying to stop them. Only, she gets caught and thrown into prison.

Upon trying to escape, they figure out she has a shit ton of power so the Empress instructs Dr.Laroe to use her power. So they do. Hanna ends up locked up in Imperium, being experimented on daily to figure out what her power is and how to use it to their benefit. It nearly kills her several times.

So eventually, Laroe makes Hanna stay sedated. She stayed like that until Lloyd, Sora, Arin, and Ryiu invaded Imperium where she uses the last of her strength to make sure they all get out safely. Hanna ends up in a 3 day coma. But hey, she's reunited with people she cares about right?

WRONG!!!! Hanna is so injured she can barely move without intense pain and is forced to be bedridden for weeks. Once she started feeling better, the end of the world was happening and she had to help Lloyd learn how to control his power and the conduit, which again drained her.

A few weeks later, Lloyds horrific visions happen. But, Hanna also has horrible visions too. Only hers are memories of her kind, Harmonizers long dead trying to warn Hanna about something. Another imbalance happens, one that leads Hanna to being a danger to everyone she loves.

Around the same time, Hanna fesses up that her avoidance with doing anything physical (if you know what I mean) with Lloyd is because of her miscarriage. She tells him about all of her guilt and fear with potentially having something similar happen again keeps her from wanting to do anything. While sure, it helps some, Hanna has to watch as Lloyd learns he could've been a dad and wasn't because Hanna wasn't careful enough (not true but yk)

When the blood moon happens, she gets transformed into this person of pure evil, the imbalance so powerful it basically traps Hanna in her body while she watches as an "evil" version of herself takes over and hurts everyone she cares about.

During the tournament of Sources, Hanna ends up being part of the reason why Arin turns to Ras, manipulating him into believing Lloyd won't help him anymore. Hanna also hurts the Ninja emotionally, taunting Nya about Jay, bullying Zane for losing almost instantly, manipulating Cole into believing Bonzle left on purpose, aiding Soras low self-esteem, and using Lloyds feelings towards her as a way to distract him.

When the tournament ends, the imbalance lets up enough for Hanna to have control back. She helps the ninja fight off Nokt (she doesn't even break a sweat because she uses her self rage against him). But before she can reunite with Lloyd, she goes running after Arin to protect him from Ras.

So, by the age of 25 (as it stands right now), she has gone through a shit ton of bs!!

Someone help I got the random idea for a Ninjago × Ben 10 au involving the following⬇

Lloyd is Ben obviously (he keeps the green as a bonus-)

Either Morro aka Lloyd's emo cousin is Gwen or Harumi aka Lloyd's adopted emo sister is Gwen

Whoever isn't Gwen is Kevin Leven

Wu is Max (obviously)

Garmadon is maybe Vilgax, maybe not

Wu and Garmadon are half alien

The Elemental Masters are the Plumbers

Nya and the original 4 ninja are plumbers kids that Wu picks up along the way during the summer trip after Lloyd gets the omnitrix

Cole gets picked up when they stop near Cole's summer dance camp that his dad sent him to

After Cole helps out with the local alien problem Wu convenes him to come along for the ride (while in typical Lloyd fashion vaguely implies that he knew Liliy)

Jay joins when the RV breakdown in the dessart and they go to the Walker junk yard

The junk yard gets attacked by aliens and after that like Cole Jay comes along for the ride because he's never far from the junk yard before

Lloyd stars having issues with the Omnitrix at one point and Wu decides to try there like with Dr. Julien, a plumber scientist that specializes in intergalactic machinery

They find Dr. Julien and meet his son Zane who turns out to have visions of future battles to come

After working things out with the Omnitrix Dr. Julien conveniences Zane that he should go with Lloyd and co. so that he gain real life experience away from him

Zane brings along his robo falcon

While passing through Ignacia Wu seeks out his old friends Ray and Maya after years of silence but instead finds Kai and Nya working their old blacksmith shop

After that Wu explains to Kai and Nya how he knows they're parents from being plumbers and that he suspects that they might have been taken by Vilgax

Kai reluctantly agrees to go with the after Nya insists that they have nothing better to do and that they might find they're parents

Kai does not believe in any type of aliens and thinks that Wu is a little nuts at first

Nya, Jay and Jay spend hours studying the Omnitrix and making theories. Jay goes wild making

Eventually everyone freaks out (expect Wu-) when they all start having different powers show up along the way earth, fire, ice, lighting water etc

Whoever ends up as who Morro and Harumi get Gwen's and Kevin's powers

It's later reviled that they all have some degree of alien DNA

Zane is either still a Nindroid or is a cyborg made with earth and alien tech

The Omnitrix makes Lloyd's eyes turn a glowy neon green (and bc he's part alien-)

Jay and Cole name Lloyd's alien forms

The serpentine are a group of aliens that they fought and are now frienemies they keep running into. Skales is so done

Misako is a part time archeologist and former plumber

Lloyd is still the youngest at 10, Cole and Zane are 16, Kai Jay and Morro are 15, Nya is 14 and Harumi is 13

lego monkie kid has this overarching theme of "the world is what you make of it / anyone can be a hero, make the most of your abilities / with the support of your friends and belief in yourself, you can do anything". at least, that's the narrative i was getting.

Lady Bone Demon represented the idea that fate is unchangeable and that means you should stop trying to "make a difference/change". she, ironically, claims herself has a harbinger of "destiny" and attempts to force this viewpoint on the world. she tries to change the world to fit her image. her ice powers could be symbolic of how her mindset is meant to freeze others into place and keep them from taking action against her.

so, in contrast, MK is meant to represent the opposite, aka the overarching narrative theme. when MK defeats her, he even says that "the perfect world is what you make of it, so as long as i have my friends by my side, the world is perfect!". it's a pretty clear indication of what the show is trying to get across to the audience.

MK's backstory is unknown throughout s1-3. we just have the general of Pigsy and Tang being important role models in his life and the idea that he recently changed his name/nickname to be MK, and that originally he had a name that was "really a mouthful". not much is really needed for a hero like MK to work in a story like this. honestly? the more boring the character's original life, the better. it hammers home the idea that anyone can be a hero.

we're never fully told why Wukong picked MK as his successor, but one can assume it's because of Wukong's "i've been kinda watchin' you" comments that Wukong has studied MK and deemed him suitable. i know i, along with a couple others, assumed it's because MK was "worthy". even the staff seems to allow those who are "worthy" to lift it, proven by when MK loses the ability in the fight against Macaque in s1. he says "i can't ... i'm not strong enough". i'm gonna quickly mention that this means the Monkey King Powers (tm) are rooted in believing in yourself, which is fitting since Wukong was an allegory for the power of the mind. anyway. the entire season MK's powers are referred to as Monkey King Powers by the cast and himself. there's even that glowy, golden power stone thing that Macaque removes from MK, effectively "taking his powers". that confirms the idea that power can be shared, meaning Wukong most likely just quietly gave his powers to MK when he lifted the staff. this, along with the fact that Wukong could shut off MK's powers kind of proves the idea that Wukong gave MK the powers in the first place. if that wasn't true, then somebody in MK's life, or himself, would have noticed something being off.

TL;DR, s1-3 MK started as a regular delivery boy who was given Monkey King's powers, and he represents the idea that anyone can become a hero and that you just need to believe in yourself and your friends.

now that the set up is outta the way, here's my gripes with season 4 lol

MK is given a backstory that, in a way, proves Lady Bone Demon right: destiny is unchangeable. he is another stone monkey, born of an egg similar (or originating from) Wukong's stone egg. we don't ... really know why? there's a lot of holes in this, like

how did MK go all the way from the mountain top to Pigsy's noodles? why to Pigsy's of all places?

if MK is a stone monkey, why does he take on a human form from birth?

if the powers he possess are all innate and not given, why has he never noticed/used them before? did he just ... not use them? even on accident? (that feels like lazy writing.)

it feels kind of obvious, at least to me?, that this backstory is... made up for this and future seasons. it doesn't really apply to s1-3 MK. it's retconned in. which, okay, fine, it's a kids show made to sell toys like ninjago, of course they're going to start adding random stuff in, they gotta sell those toys. the kids need a cool action show to get them interested in them toys. but my issues stems from the fact that the message of the show has changed.

MK is no longer the everyman underdog hero for kids to look up to, he was specifically born to be an all-powerful stone monkey. this isn't the story of a normal guy becoming a hero, it's the story of an all powerful being just... realizing they're all powerful. he was destined to be this way. it feels almost negative, if ya catch my drift. this, along with the retcons (???) to the rest of the cast, just leaves a weird taste in my mouth.

the others, Pigsy, Tang, Sandy, and Mei, are no longer the reincarnations of the pilgrims, but are now the descendants. mei is an exception, since she was always Ao Lie's 1000x great grand daughter, but the others? they were always thought of as reincarnations. the descendant thing feels like a quick retcon. for what? i have no idea. the only thing i can think of is the narrative question for the heroes of "the sins of the father" type deal, where they have to prove that they are better people than their ancestors. this... also applies to MK, in an odd way? the show has made comments of how Wukong regrets many things in his life and that no one has let him forget about his mistakes, something that could tie into the narrative idea of The Next Generation (tm) being better than the old guys. he even tells MK that he's done so much more for the world than Wukong ever did himself. this is weird, because MK and Wukong are not related. at least in a direct descendant kind of way (such as father -> son confirmed by writer/producer, David Breen. as for sibling relationship? god i hope not.) although MK says in s4, and Sandy in s3, that this is Just A Theory that they're descendants/reincarnations, it's still pretty blatantly showed that it's true.

my issue is that this feels like character assignation, of the old pilgrims and of our current cast. issues that characters didnt really have (mei's "anger", for example) are being put into the series to give them some sort of obstacle to overcome, even though there's plenty organic obstacles in the narrative. and damn, poor mk. i guess im just mourning the loss of our regular ass dude who has been exchanged for a..... uh..... fanfic-like backstory? i know i know that's a "cringe" remark to make, but it's the only analogy i can think of at the moment. imagine pitching this

okay, so our main character, get this, is gonna be a stone monkey JUST like the monkey king. AND he's gonna have all the monkey king's powers. he'll be born from the same stone, too. it's like he's another wukong but for the kids!

i'm exaggerating, but still. like .. ???

now, not everything was bad or something i didnt like! i loved the conflict azure presented, and i love MK grappling with the idea of "everything being his fault". it reflects wukong's problems in a cool way (now if they'd EXPLORE THAT!!!). azure brings up a pretty good point and one i did NOT thing they would ever do: the idea that the celestials are corrupt and self serving. azure has a point here, and the conflict is pretty damn cool. i just kinda wish the heroes' narrative would also be a response to this conflict? like s1-3. but w/e i guess

i kinda expected a change in direction since the director and some writing staff were changed from s1-3 to this season. but uhhhh not like this </3

now!!!!! i am not completely set in stone with this current idea of lego monkie kid because there's a season 5 on it's way. the story will continue, and i assume we will get our closure on the azure lion arc. im kinda worried about how that closure will happen but uhhh future us problem. MK is also at the height of his darkest hour/self doubt by the end of this season, so hopefully s5 will address this and explore the solution. what narrative solution r they gonna present??????? no fuckin clue theres like no hints i hae no idea where they're going with this. foreshadowing? never met her.

(also, side tangent, there is no way that this was Planned From The Beginning)

Ninjago is the Supernatural of cartoons

#WAIT WAIT WAIT #JUST HEAR ME OUT #- FROM A NARRATIVE POINT. okay? intended with only a certain amount of seasons and a certain plot.#2 seasons and the great Devourer with ninjago; 5 seasons and the heaven hell story for spn #next? the core of the show. it’s like about brotherhood becoming stronger and working as a team despite your differences #ppl die all the time and come back in increasingly convoluted ways #the dragging out of the show leads to inconsistency in it that is both frustrating and hilarious with its implications #and each season has to introduce a new antagonist or bring back an old one with another batshit plotline #and the fans will be enthralled or laughing and roasting it or both #but see the big difference comes that as a show for kids Ninjago doesn’t take itself too seriously #they’re able to pull off the batshit plotlines bc they know it’s hilarious and so they can go over the top ridiculous #yeah they’re going to space! eat shit we know you’ll watch this anyway!#and they’re right.#spn on the other hand takes itself way too seriously and because of that they have no fun and the last several seasons basically #recycle the same plot? the character arcs are the same and it gets really dry #in trying to stay grounded spn loses what makes it fun #or made it fun #but ninjago? mondo i have a question for you. i know that your skybound fic follows a principle of plus (add details and depth etc) and (relatively) never subtract (dont redact or change details from canon and avoid divergence). but. is there anything from skybound as a season that you would Like to change? beyond making jays torture worse. i think that one goes without saying. is there anything in the plot that you wish hadnt happened or happened differently. ive been curious about this for a while admittedly

this is such a great ask and i’m so happy to talk abt it so hold on cuz this might be long.

you’re right, the whole goal of my fic is to add to the canon story, rather than fix or take out parts. the only parts i actually nixed were unnecessary to the plot and just put in bc 1) it’s a kids show and 2) just for (imo) poorly timed comedic relief. like the whole recruiting of the ninja replacements montage. i absolutely hate that part lmao bc it’s so somber when jay leaves his parents and then boom. funny montage. so i didn’t write that in lmao.

it’s no secret skybound is pretty objectively bad, like even those who love the szn (including myself) can see it has some pretty big flaws. in terms of what i would change?? the fucking time reversal. i legitimately hate that jay and nya went through all that, just for the others to forget, it’s awful. it just feels like the writers dug themselves so deep into a hole, the only way out was to turn back time. no hate to the trope, i just think it’s lazy writing for a big piece of media like ninjago. i don’t think it’s fair for jay to have gone through all that character development and have no one but nya know.

i also don’t like the forced marriage thg tbh. it’s weird and creepy and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially since this is a kids show. i’ve seen several interpretations of ppl rewriting skybound where nadakhan is after nya bc she destroyed the cursed realm, which is a take i personally love. idk it’s just w nya’s whole thg about wanting to have her own agency and be able to make decisions for herself, it doesn’t rlly make sense to me that she still ends up being the “damsel in distress.” but ig if i squint i can work w it as her letting herself be saved?

there’s a couple other minor things like dareth being a misogynist, jay taking a chill pill, but that stems from the love triangle which is a WHOLE other issue, ronin arresting them, more detail abt what happened to jay on the ship, jay getting proper medical attention, and echo zane getting a resolution, or at least not forgetting abt him.

skybound is by no means perfect, but i still love it, despite the flaws. i actually have plans to write an alternate ending either where time doesn’t reset or it does but everyone remembers instead of just jay and nya. it’ll be set in the “when you think you’re all alone” universe of sorts so everything i put in the story is addressed, but i actually wanna finish this fic first before i start another. thank you so much for the question though!!! i’ve actually been thinking a lot abt it

Like i am not really a skybound hater but i can very much understand why people don’t like it, bc it handles a lot of topics rather poorly.

Just Jay still seeing Nya as just “girlfriend <3” by the end. The scene where she’s in this one creep’s late wife’s wedding dress and hates it hut Jay doesn’t even think about how she feels about it and is just simping for how she looks when he sees her is… not reflective of the kind of character growth and moral teaching we’d want from a season like this.

I love that they touch upon the issues of sexism in this season but they don’t commit. I agree with the poster above, no one changes.

Additionally while I think Nadakhan is a really cool villain, the level of inappropriate-ness that is him trying to marry Nya is pretty uncouth for ninjago. It feels like a really dark situation that isn’t treated with the appropriate seriousness. Like ofc its not portrayed as good, but it has such a different tone compared to your run of a mill bad guy plot. And the issue is that ninjago’s target audience won’t ever know how seriously fucked up a breach of consent like that is because ninjago is really bad at portraying healthy relationships anyways, so even if we know its not good, the kids don’t understand the extent of it. Just because uncomfortable things happen in real life doesn’t mean its appropriate in a kids show, especially when kid show doesn’t realise how uncomfortable those things really are. Again, its super weird how Nya gets married to an older man in his dead wife’s dress against her will, but all our main character is thinking about is how hot Nya is in the dress and how he’s more jealous of Nadakhan than horrified at what Nadakhan is doing. It’s uncomfortable but more than that, the show pretends its not uncomfortable.

Additionally there’s the whole vilification of certain cultures and stereotypes, which again is present throughout ninjago but it makes s6 pretty poor taste.

Question

Does anyone have a genuine reason on why they hate skybound? Everything I've seen is just 'oh it's uncomfortable' (even tho things that happen in skybound are very much real) or the airjitzu temple being there. I've never really gotten a real, legit reason on why it's bad and i'm curious cuz it's one of my all time favourites.

Bc of you i really wanna get into Ninjago (/pos) but it's so, what's the word, much? Like intimidating there are so many season it seems like and so many character hhdhshah

Can i ask what your fave character is and why and howd you like describe the vibe of the show? Then I can know what to expect w energy of the show and the first question is just bc I'm curious aha

okay so this is gonna be long sorry.

i also thought the amount of seasons was intimidating but i actually find that it was really easy to get through? i think i binged it all in like a week 🧍🏻‍♀️(but uh, i did stay up a lot and usually multitasked) the seasons are very short(usually 10 eps) , and later on the episodes get short too.

there’s also new characters introduced every season, but it’s very centralized around the same cast of characters all through, which is like Lloyd, Nya, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Wu, and later on Pixal. so it doesnt feel like a lot to me.

I also think i enjoy the show a little differently than other media? Like it’s just good fun for me to watch. there’s several factors.

1) It holds a lot of nostalgia for me, because i was superrr into this show as a kid, 2) the way i enjoy the show is much like playing with legos as a kid. you have all these legos and crazy ideas, and you spin it all in different ways into what is sometimes a nonsensical plot, but its fun, 3) it is aimed for kids, so it’s easy to find it lacking in areas, but my absolute favorite thing is watching the team dynamic between the main characters bc it feels like they actually like each other😂 it’s the main thing i watch it for tbh

It’s not for everyone obviously, but idk watching the storytelling and animation improve/change throughout the seasons is neat bc in s8 holllyyyy shit it gets a whole new aesthetic, and it’s also really fun to kind of take elements that the show presents and do some Thinking and Creating in my head

my favorites are Zane and Kai—Zane because i grew up connecting to his character a lot and he’ll always be special to me, and Kai bc he just sort of falls into my stereotypical type of favorite character 💀 . His characterization isn’t always the best and the writers sometimes miss opportunities with him but i just really like Thinking about him and the potential types of character development he could have 🤷🏻‍♀️

So yeah theres the pilots which are really hard to find, but there’s a twitch link to them (pitched down)

Pilots 1/2, Pilots 3/4 (40 minutes in total)

Then the rest are on netflix(they’re separated into two titles tho), except the day of the departed special which isnt there fsr :P

S1-2 are fun and nostalgic to me even if they’re a bit uh, obviously at aimed kids. they were also meant to be the only seasons, but the audience liked it so it kept going. I feel like something shifted in the air around s6-ish though, and then again for s8 idk.

if youre really plot oriented or super into intense intricate world building, or not into shows that can be simple and aimed at kids, you might not enjoy it..? but if you just like seeing wacky plots w fun characters then you might like it ^_^

Ninjago should flesh out the effects of it's own lore and not in the Harumi(effects of S1) or Oni(effects of s4-5 I think?) way

like. Give the ninja trauma. But show that it actually affects their life and not, "Oopsy daisy Jay just witnessed the entire of ninjago be tore down to reconstruct a different realm while getting severely abused and even loosing an eye- Oh well! Since there was time travel he's back to comic relief bcs come on guys it didn't happen (even though he remembers)!", or "Oh Cole just basically died- Eh he has cool ghost abilities now."

Let the ninja suffer, *and have side affects from suffering*

Ig s6 payed off in whatever reason prime empire was, but it was.. wrong?? Like it was just 5 seconds and done.

And ig the pilots payed off in s7, and ig s8 payed off in s11/12(depends how you view the never realm half)

But idk- There's a reason I'm saying "I guess" instead of just saying it as a fact but I can't pinpoint it

So I definitely see where you’re coming from with this. Most of the fandom that interacts with each other are like, teenagers to young adults who want a good story and fleshed out characters and real, genuine effects of the severe trauma they definitely have suffered. I am one of those people.

But we also have to remember that at its core, Ninjago was created to be a kids show. And while nowadays, kids shows are trying to do that in a way that simplifies it and makes it understandable to the kids watching it, they weren’t trying to do that back in 2011. So yeah, it kind of sucks that they’ll go balls to the wall traumatizing these characters but then don’t show how it actually affects them in their regular lives, but we have to remember that it’s a kids show. Kids don’t want that, they want cool characters and cool fights and stuff.

But yeah, I agree to some extent, it would have been cool if they actually showed us the effects of everything.

You can come into the house, this take is pretty based.

thats fucking stupid. in the few frames we are given of it of the different angles, its clearly just a fucking box. no depth leading to the curve of the hull, no visible door and likely no door whatsoever bc it would complicate things. a box that probably is in the shape of its opening. lets be real. this is a design that was easy and convenient for the cg modeler to make. ive done 3d work for a class. its hell. i dont blame them. but anyways. ppl who worked on this probably just saw the grates on the surface of the deck and was like oh we dont know what that looks like on the inside but its a perfect place to throw poor ole jay in! grab the trusty basic 3d cube. use difference to cut it out. add texture. and to be honest? yeah the story doesnt need an entire storage space to be built for realism sake. why would they do that for a cg lego show. lets get lazy about it, what do the kids know, whats important is that jays life sucks. the sparseness serves more of a purpose the bleak hopelessness of the pit jay has dug himself into

my point still stands. this is just a hole. it aint right. this is not how old ships were built. this cell was made for jays specifically for the sake of simplicity in both the production standpoint and story. its dumb but serviceable for a narrative purpose

i do this for a hobby. criticizing ninjago is literally 75% of the fun for me. thinking soooo much about the shows i like and pointing out the bits that are wack is how i occupy my brain in my spare time. so what are you doing man. is defending ninjagos honor your hobby? get a better one. or at least more thought and consideration and media literacy. like im thinking about the show from a production standpoint as well as writing. this show has So many holes in it btw so theres MUCH to think about and mull over. a lot of stuff for me to play with. its nice in that sense. ninjago is a sandbox if anything. im sure im not alone in thinking this
