Entrapdak Zine 6 - Festive. Submissions OPEN!

Apologies for the delay in getting this open Please feel free to check out the Entrapdak Secret Santa event I’m also running at the moment (links are in my pinned post)

Anyway this is the post for Entrapdak Zine 6 - Festive!

The deadline for this will be Friday DEC 1st 2021 at 9AM GMT. What’s that in your timezone? Click here for a Handy Dandy Countdown:

I am flexible on this Deadline so anything that arrives on this date or by my 9am the next day is allowed (I’m in the GMT timezone BTW)

I am LESS flexible on the Extension Deadline

The Zine will be out before Christmas.  The actual date is flexible and dependant on when all the Submissions come in and my own personal work schedule.

So most of this is the same as the last few - really if it ain’t broke don’t fit it!  Also a polite reminder I am only one person running this and I am a part time Barista.  It may take me a little time to reply to emails/comments especially after the deadline time (when I have the most amount of work to do on this project) so please be patient with me.

Our basic guidelines are the same as before, with just a few minor updates:

This will be:

A Digital Zine containing content created by the fans for the fans

A 100% Free Zine

Preferred Language is English

SFW content suitable for a Y7-PG13 age range (same as the show’s age rating)

You may notice I run this different to other zines as there is no sign up period, just submit work before the deadline - I’d rather people have more time to work on their pieces 

Anyone can submit regardless of age or skill level - this is not a job application - just follow the guidelines and email in your work

Submission can be Fan Writing (poems, fan fiction, character analysis, eassys etc), Fan Art, or even photos of your Entrapdak IRL content (cosplays, fancrafts etc)!  You can submit an older work that you have published online previously if you wish - or even update a work you submitted to the last Zine! Just have fun!

Like the show this Zine will contain content rated Y7 and PG13 rated - so please no swearing 

There WILL BE NO NSFW or 18+ content - where possible let’s keep this suitable for all ages please 

Sub note on character minimum clothing requirements: 

for male presenting characters to be speedos/underpants

for female presenting characters to be a bikini/bra and underpants 

if not sure please use the female presenting criteria

Theme:

This issue’s theme if you wish to use it is:

“Festive”

This theme is a suggestion and if you’d rather make an Entrapdak piece without this theme please feel free to do so. I want you to have fun!

Allowed Characters:

As long as both Entrapta and Hordak are the main focus and the piece follows Age Rating it will be allowed.

Other allowed characters in the Entrapdak family include Emily, Imp and the Clones (also known as Spacebats)…yes weirdly this also  includes Horde Prime.

Other She-Ra characters will be allowed but Entrapdak is to be the core element.

Phew that’s a lotta text sorry about that - now on to the fun stuff! What sort of stuff is allowed?

Sex Swap AU, Species Swap AU, Furry AU, Toony AU, Anime AU, Fankid AU, Coffee Shop AU, married AU, Spacebat AU, just besties AU just to name the few that pop into my head! Oh yeah Canon Lab Partners Entrapdak too…hehe nearly forgot about that one XD. Make something Entrapdak related that’s PG13 rated and have fun!!

Fan Writing guidelines:

This includes fan fiction, analysis eassys, poetry or whatever else you’d like to write about.  I would ask this content to be between 1k-10k words in length, it’s not a big deal if the writing is over 10k or even if it’s 20k - write whatever your story needs. If you’d like to write Chapters then please do!

Written work can be emailed in the body of text, sent as pdf attachment or as a link to a Google Doc - I can work with any of those.

Please include you name/username somewhere as it helps. If there’s no name on the piece I’ll add one at the start with the title.

Fan Art guidelines:

Fan art can include rough sketches, screencap redraws, comics (appox 1-10 pages length), coloured sketches or full colour pieces. 

Fan art can be in the digital or traditional medium.  

Traditional fan art can either be submitted as a photo or scanned, which ever you prefer.

Preferred sizing for Digital art is as follows, my aim to to have everything on International (UK) A4 paper sizing where possible*

Portrait layout is preferred**

PNG is preferred but I will understand if you only wish to send a workable JPEG

The aspect ratio (width:height) of A4 paper is 1:1.4142 (1:√2)

Notes: 

*Images outside these sizings are still okay but may end up with a white border on the edges due to the PDF publishing settings.  

**Images in the landscape layout will get boarders when posted on a portrait page due to the PDF publishing settings, however if I receive landscape art I will make some extra pages at the end of the Zine and attempt to turn landscape art into a two page spread (which does look awesome!).

Please make sure to include your Social Media contacts and which name or username you wish to be identified by.  If you forget to include social media details and have been a part of a previous Zine I’ll use the details I have on file 

I will reply to confirm I have received the content and that’s it I take care of the rest!

Please note I DO NOT KEEP any records of anyone’s email addresses.  When the Zine is out I batch delete all emails sent to the email address (this is usually done a week after the Zine is out) and I keep no further records of these address. I respect your email privacy at all times.  

The only records I keep on Zine applications is a private Google Sheet that has the following details: Submitter’s name, rough description of the item submitted and their social media contacts. I’m the only person with access to this Google Sheet as I use this as a Master List reference when compiling the Zine

Why no Application form?

I don’t want anyone to feel like they are applying for a job here, this is supposed to be fun.

Will there be Guest Artists or Guest Writers?

If they apply sure, I’m not advertising who applies to be a part of this Zine until it’s ready to be published.  I don’t want anyone to feel intimidated just because a certain person has chosen to participate.

Can I submit more than one piece?

If you’d like to certainly!  If you’d like to submit up to three pieces of art and 3 fan writings, sure go for it! I’m certainly not going to stop anyone having a good time

May I post a preview of my work to my Followers?

Sure! Bonus points if you link them to this post so that they can take part if they wish

May I post my work online?

I would ask if you could please wait until the issue featuring your work is published. Of course this does not apply if you are chosen to submit and older work - in this case may I ask that you edit or add to said post to mention the work was also used in the Zine?

Is this only for people with a [insert certain social media account here]?

Nope, this is for anyone who wants to take part.  I only ask for a social media contact so that others who like you work for the Zine may follow you on your preferred social media platform.

Can I send an update to a piece?

Of course! Just let me know which piece you want to use and I’ll update on my end

Can I send another piece on later?

Of course that’s not a problem!

Ah I can’t get this done before the deadline - it’s almost ready!!!  I need another day!!!!

@fandomtrumpshate is a charity drive centered around the creation of fanworks (fanart, fanfic, services (like betaing or podcasting), etc.; the vast majority of things are fandom-centered but it's not actually a prerequisite); the way it works is: you bid on an auction set up by a participant; on march 9th, the winner is selected; I (let's say you bid on my auction) contact the winner, who then makes a donation of the amount that won the bid to one of the charities on the list, and sends me the proof of donation; I send the proof of donation to fth, contact the winner to check what exactly they want, make it and then send it to them (they pay for the shipping); more info there: https://fandomtrumpshate.tumblr.com/FAQ (look around their blog for the other participants too!)

Timetable:

The example medaillon is already done and will be sent immediately if the highest bidder chooses those symbols. I can make other single- or double-sided medaillons in a couple weeks. For more than two sides, or if you want your medaillon glazed instead of painted, it may take a few months.

Why do you keep saying medaillon, isn't it just a necklace?

I can send it as a necklace (with waxed cotton string and a toggle clasp (the ones shaped like an I and an O) or just a knot) or just the medaillon if you want to hang it on a wall; we can discuss that later: as long as I already have the materials at hand I can do whatever you like best.

Symbols available:

I am mostly into Marvel and DC (and Teen Wolf but I don't think they have clear character-related symbols?), but if you want simple geometrical symbols from other fandoms (or non-fandom) I can do it too (just send me a reference).

Glaze? Paint? What's the difference?

The symbol can be painted on with stained glass-imitation paint, solvent-based. This solution is faster (a couple weeks), since I already have everything on hand. Or it can be glazed (glaze is a glass-like color/material fired at very high temperatures; it is very sturdy: you'll break the medaillon before you manage to scratch it, dilute it, or flake it off; the one I use is shiny). Glaze takes more time (a few months) because I need to make a new clay medaillon, wait for it to dry, get it to the kiln, wait for the kiln people to fire it, add the glaze, and get it to the kiln again for a second firing. The pattern will probably be lightly raised. I have slightly less glaze than paint colors, and black glaze is for now an issue (I can't guarantee it'll look good). Shipping - as in sending stuff :) :

I will ask you to cover the shipping costs in addition to the donation. Shadowhunters Ladies had it coming: presenting this year’s Femslash February prompt list.

Straight (or not so straight if you catch my drift) from the Shadow World, by @A_Taupe_Fox because they know what’s good for me (and you).

Here is how it works: you may have noticed the calendar with a list of prompts.

It is up to you (and me, I’m doing it too!) to create a brand new piece of fanwork for the Shadowhunters femslash pairing of your choice, interpreting the prompt however you see fit.

The only restriction is of course that every work you create must be femslash. Rule 63 is fine, and any character who identifies as a woman is welcome.

All kind of works (be it fanart, fanfic, fanmix, fanvids, fancraft…) are highly encouraged. You may create a reclist if you so wish, translate a work or make a podfic, as long as you tag responsibly.

Mature and/or dark content is allowed as long as you warn accordingly. Friendly reminder that the point of trigger warnings is that they need to be visible and understandable so people know what to avoid.

Hope this isn’t weird, I just wanted to say I’m really glad you liked my Dimple dress, bc I saw your initial hubris quilting post last year and thought it was a super cool project, but then I lost track of the post and your blog. I was just wondering the other day how the project was going and sad that I probably wouldn’t be able to find the post again, but then you reblogged my dress and I saw your pinned post!

I don’t really have a point here, other than I’m glad I ran into you again. When I was designing the Dimple dress, I started idly considering what I’d do for a Mob-themed one and your quilting project was the first inspirations I thought of.

If I did do a Mob dress I’d probably go a different route, but I really love your quilting and I think the colors and everything you have so far are absolutely gorgeous.

Anyway, feel free to ignore this if it’s weird or you don’t want to answer, I just wanted to say thanks and good luck on the rest of the project!

If you ever do make a Mob-themed dress, I'd love to see it! Your Dimple one is so fun; I love how evocative it is while also being so simple! The red spots being pockets is so clever and works really well!

Fancrafts, especially textiles/wearables, are one of my favorite genres of fanworks. People are so creative and it's so fun seeing the different approaches that they take. I love full-on cosplay too, but there's a special place in my heart for non-cosplay apparel projects!

Well its highly unlikely, but since its on my mind: a theoretically playable padjal player race for ffxiv fancraft.

padjal [general changes compared to cannon]: still the children of the elementals, the seers and all that with strong influence in gridanian governance. the main changes would be in altering the given reason why they're so few and how they come about, which would kinda lead into tweaks with gridania as a whole. So in this dream imagining, instead of arbitrarily appearing in hyur populations its a lot more understood how they appear. In the case of the early padjal that would be because they were all children of or later descendants of those who communed and received blessings from the elementals, with their appearance solely being in hyur populations at the time being because hyur, as the 'default basic bitch of ffxiv races', are a lot more susceptible to having their biology so drastically changed when infused with all that nature goodness [well in other races, padjal qualities can manifest but not to the same drastic extent]. later padjal populations however, and this is where problems begin manifesting for gridanias social structure, began entrenching themselves in distinct familial groups in the way that power concentrating into the hands of a few tends to go. less small family units and more clan structures though as a consequences of their religious beliefs and practices running up against the desires of individual padjals wanting to have padjal children for both social and personal reasons. a not unusual process of 'want padjal children, arrange padjal union to improve odds of padjal children, help child out with le benefits of the job, train child to inherit your job, arrange childs own marriage to improve their own chances' and so on and so on until clan blocs form in the otherwise officially communal padjal societies. and then you add the further complication that padjal children can and are still born outside of those clan blocs, and that some of the padjal find the whole clan politics thing to very much not be in the spirit of communing with the elementals, and you have a delicate situation. especially as before times of instability within the world the population number of padjal tends to spike for a short period of time. well popular mythos says they never age and remain 'forever children' in practice they do age just not in a standard form. for most of their lives they do indeed look like children or at the least like young teenagers, with the older looking padjal being considered more magically gifted in the way a mighty oak dwarfs its neighbours. then near the end of their lives they begin to 'whither' looking old and wizened rather rapidly before they finally 'return to the earth', with padjal in that final stage of life typically secluding themselves in communion with the elementals. some padjal will prematurely enter this withered state enduring it rigours for longer periods of time. that such premature withering has reportedly happened most commonly to the clan elders of padjal politics, has led some to suggest such withering is 'expression of a withered soul' though any such claims have not been empirically substantiated.

that brings us to the two padjal starting groups

hearers: those considered blessed by the elementals and the first padjal to emerge. They are named hearers because that is a position considered near ubiquitous with them, possessing very straight and elegant horns and an ethereal calm and grace. mostly only seen in gridania, having one of the largest political influences within gridanian affairs despite their overall smaller population then gridanias other races, with a predisposition towards white magic. a not insubstantial number however have moved beyond gridanian borders either because of wanderlust, a desire to escape clan politics, or perhaps most unusually to proselytize about the elementals and establish compounds of worship outside of gridanian borders. such proselytes do so out of a belief that elementals exist not just in gridania but the world at large, but that they're inaction outside of gridania is because they have not been 'properly nourished'. such preachers are often taken with a grain of salt if not mocked by the more skeptical, but some researchers note the theory might not be quite so crazy after all and such hearer compounds tend to feel more 'alive' to visitors then elsewhere in their environments, as though curious eyes now watch them.

cursers: the opposite side of the hearers, and traditionally considered those padjal who do not enjoy the blessings of the elementals but rather are 'cursed' by them. the exact mechanics at play are not well defined, but in general it seems that if the hyur forcibly takes the blessing of an elemental by binding it to their will then the resultant padjal child will be born a curser, their horns twisting well the padjal themselves possess an almost grim or spectral quality despite also being a 'forever child' like their hearer cousins. cursers have long suffered intense prejudices not just from hearer padjal but from all of gridania, as their 'twisted forms' are seen as proof of inherent sin against the elementals. as such if they weren't forced to leave gridania entirely, most cursers made livings at the edges of gridanian society and the dark pockets of the shorud, communing with 'less savoury spirits' and practising all manner of 'witchcraft' further darkening their reputation. even outside the shroud this reputation as witches and cursers would persist, with the cursers eventually taking on the designation as 'cursers' as a form of defiant pride. only in recent centuries however has such issues improved, one of the more politically radical seedseers of the time proclaiming that sin only lay with those who had bound the elementals to their wills, and not with the children and thus advocated for reconciliation with the cursers. well a number of prejudices and superstitions persist in gridania over the matter, cursers have successfully integrated into gridanian society and are an accepted part of life in the shroud not as monsters but as complicated people. most cursers however still live outside of gridania because of long established roots outside of the forest state, and many in and outside of gridania persist in practices of witchcraft and curses, tentatively permitted by the conjurers guild due to a suprising number of similarities between the two practices.

Since The Magnus Archives was a constant audio companion for me when I was first getting into embroidery, I’ve wanted to stitch a tribute piece for a long time — and over two years after the episode that initially sparked this concept was released, I finally have!

This is so silly, but I admire your writing so much. I like writing (I think?) and wanted to enter a competition for fiction short story. I don't usually have problems putting pen to paper, but this time I'm scared, flat-out anxious. I've bounced the idea around a while and want to write it but now I'm afraid I'm an impostor and not a real writer. I don't want to write the story and show it to my friends and have them dislike it. Some of them are really picky (needlessly so?) and this (1/2)

“(2/2) story is something I’ve wanted for a while. I did a 1500 word short story earlier that has some of the same elements I wanted to replicate, and it was skunked. Maybe that’s how I see it, but it felt really bad and I have no idea how to start the next one now. So, my question to you, is how do you get over those feelings and fears? And at what point do you stop letting people read a story and offer critique, and just post/publish it? Thank you for taking the time to look at this.”

I think one of the main reasons I’ve never hesitated with showing my work in the past couple of years is because I’ve never gotten critique saying what I’ve done is bad, and I already know how bad my writing can be, how bad it has been and how I’ve improved from there.

I started off by writing Minecraft youtuber fanfics on Wattpad, so yeah, that was my bar for my level of bad. I’m still trying not to trip over it. I’ve written a l o t of hot garbage, and now I know it wasn’t the best because I’m able to look back and see how much I’ve improved. (It helped that I never got bad critiques, because the community was comprised of sensitive preteens who liked Minecraft, lmao)

I never had the fear of sharing my work, because I was a twelve year old who wanted to write gay Minecraft fanfiction. I was still an extrovert who wanted to write about whatever, because I liked reading and thought writing wasn’t that different, and I thought it was easy and fun. 

It helps to have a positive force on your side when you need to bounce ideas off of someone, or if you need to have someone else give their opinion, one on one. I share screenshots of fics with my girlfriend sometimes, or I read them aloud to her, or we just all-caps message each other about my headcanons and stuff. I don’t share as much with her now because I’m focused on Wizard101 mostly, and she doesn’t play the game, but yeah. It helps build confidence to have someone who understands you and has a 95% possibility to have something nice to say. 

I don’t hesitate on just posting something, because I know that if no one else reads it, I probably will (especially with my horrible memory. I can’t remember half of what’s on this blog, and I started it in June). I started off with something easy, following the school headcanons format that I had seen other people use, and I knew that at least parts of it were good, though I’ve already gone back and fixed the original post. 

I started this blog in June, and now I’m so glad I never was all that bothered about posting something, because anything is better than my old fics where I wrote in first person and couldn’t write poetically to save my lil minecraft-loving life.

Anyway, I think your story will be great, anon. It probably won’t be the best thing you’ve ever write, but that’s the point of writing, right? You improve, you struggle and work and it’s not always gonna be easy. But that’s with every hobby, every passion. It’s dedication and having people to support you. (I support you, anon!!)

I’m always terrified when I try new things in my writing, as you and others can probably tell by my sticking to prompts and formats that I know work for me. How I never post long fics that are works in progress, and I never try anything experimental, like poetry or second person.

As for starting your story, that’s always the hardest part for me, personally. I typically have that one scene in my head, the one where I can feel the warmth of the sun or the flames, where I’m smiling to some song unheard by everyone else. I start with that one scene, and work from there, or I keep it in mind as I work towards that one scene.

Good luck, anon. I hope that whatever you do, you have fun. I hope you make something, even if it isn’t perfect. I hope you improve and do your passion justice.

So I found this OC/SI Katekyo Hitman Reborn fanfic series (Russian Roulette: Reloaded) that I’m just head over heels with. Just really appreciated going in-depth about the Arcobaleno pre-Cursed and really writing them out into people. They’re so essential in the canon story, but reading this series really drives it in how tragic the whole affair is because the Curse really ruined lives. It’s so fucking great, seriously. After finishing and then rereading (at the time, the most recent chapter was chapter 59 in part two of The Dragoness’ Library, Russian Roulette: Second Chamber), I ended up making this instead of drawing fanart lol.

It includes a kind of exploration into Flame-compatible gemstones and what exactly those canon Flame rings are made of. I’ve been into semi-precious stones/crystals as well as the less well known gemstones for a while now, and recognized some of the kinds that ended up being used by or associated with certain characters. For example, Reborn finds his Sun Flames are compatible with moonstones and yellow jade, and has moonstones embedded in the handle of one of his guns. 

Another thing that was really fun about the story was the Sonya’s (Russian dragon-mom and the World’s Greatest Thief) relationship with Reborn, them basically co-parenting Shamal. Their dynamic is seriously the cutest thing ever with both being ridiculous and competent and not seeing how they’re casually breaking people’s minds left and right.

And coincidentally, I had yellow jade beads and a number of gold charms. Including this little gold axe charm I never knew what to do with. Unfortunately most of the stones Sonya regularly use are a bit expensive for me. Instead of something like spinel, I decided to represent her with cacoxenite amethyst, picking out the iron mineral shows up as the most reddish to represent our favorite Storm-Cloud.

Cat – Tattoos act like a resume in the Russian criminal underground. Children slated to become thieves are given cat tattoos, so Sonya’s first tattoo was a cat and she’s a bit of a, lol, cat burglar.

Cross – Reborn and Shamal are Catholic Christians. It’s a major thing with the co-parenting.

Big Dragon – Sonya is often referred to as some form of “dragon lady” and later gets a large dragon tattoo to indicate she has stolen from the state.

Axe – She keeps medieval weapon charms that she Propagates into full-size or just multiple. One of her go-to weapons that she menaces people with are golden axes that she chucks around.

Sun – Reborn, but I’m hoping to replace this one with a handgun charm.

Chinese Dragon – Reference to Sonya’s networking with the Chinese Triads, who also call her “dragon lady”.

Sun – Reborn, but I’m hoping to replace this one with a lizard or chameleon charm.

Day 5 (29th July): Background Characters - Who else was watching Frodo’s song at the Prancing Pony? What’s it like to be a rank-and-file Fëanorian, going into exile over an argument that has nothing to do with you? How does it feel to work at the Houses of Healing, unable to stop your patients from dying of the black breath? Create a fanwork exploring a character you would find in the background of the main action.

Day 6 (30th July): Original Peoples- Instead of just one character, create a fanwork about a group of people who aren’t explored in canon, like the Avari, the Drúedain, the dwarves of the Iron Hills, or anything else you imagine might exist in Middle Earth. You can even invent your own race of speaking people!

This year, we have almost 600 fan creators who have stepped up to offer almost 750 fanworks, in exchange for their high bidders’ donations to any of several nonprofits working to protect those who have been targeted by the current administration.

In its three prior auctions, FTH participants have come together to raise over $73,000. We’re hoping that this year’s auction will bring our combined total to $100K.

Bidding will remain open until Friday, February 28th at 8pm EST.

N.B. we use scripts to auto-open and auto-close the bidding forms, so it’s likely that some of the forms will open slightly early, and some of them will likely close a bit late. This is not ideal, but it’s also unavoidable; please read our bidding policies to see how we are handling it. If you happen to see a bid that was placed before 8am EST on the 24th, please email us to let us know so we can delete it.

Top 5 Fanworks 2020 - Fan Crafts Edition

tagged by: I got tagged three different times for this challenge, so I’m doing a fanfic version, a moodboard version, and a crafts version.  For this one, we’ll say that the fabulous @summerpipedream​ tagged me!

For the fancrafts...

1. IM2 inspired Cross Stitch Cuties!  We’ve got a gif on the WI Discord server that has racecar Tony with his arm on fire and the caption “who let me adult?”  So obviously I couldn’t just let that go, and we all know Dum-E would have loved to have been there for that.

2. Iron Man repulsor glove mittens!  Next time I do something like this, I might do some embroidery on the felt, even though the glove repulsors don’t have anything in the middle.

3. I love the MINISO Iron Man design so much that I decided to make a cross stitch pattern and sew it up!

4. I’ve made this particular shirt design before, and then promptly forgot how.  So it was nice of Poliz to do a swap with me so I’d get one of her adorable stuffies in return for a shirt!  I forgot to take a pic of the actual finished version, but this was what it looked like when it came out of the wash after the first coat of paint.  I kinda loved how the gold looked mottled, so I made sure to save a pic.

5. Always my OTP, and I particularly loved creating Pepperony’s gala look from IM1.  THAT BLUE DRESS, THO.  And Tony is supposed to have a distinguishable bowtie, but it didn’t wanna cooperate.  He’s super cute anyway.

Hi Elvie!! Today I offer you a humble fancraft for your Wilbur story! I hope you like it! It’s supposed to be a depiction of the L'Manberg stage prior to the explosions, but like a theatre stage inside a mini box! (it’s 3 cm tall XD)
