Sword Through the Heart - A Greek Romance
Chapter Two: Beneath the Surface
As the battle continued to rage around them, Themistocles and Leonidas found themselves locked in a tense stalemate. Their swords moved with a fluid precision, the clash of steel reverberating through the air as their eyes remained locked in an unrelenting challenge.
Their movements were calculated, each one a testament to years of training and experience. Leonidas' shield bore the scars of countless battles, while Themistocles' armor was adorned with the marks of his strategic prowess. It was a deadly dance, a struggle for dominance that transcended the battlefield.
Amidst the intensity of combat, a sudden lull provided a temporary respite. Their chests heaved with exertion, and their eyes bore a glint of mutual exhaustion. For a moment, they stood facing each other, a silent acknowledgment of the raw power that crackled in the air.
"Tell me, Themistocles," Leonidas said, his voice gruff as he wiped sweat from his brow. "What drives a man like you to stand against the might of Sparta?"
Themistocles' gaze held a hint of intrigue, a glimpse into the complex web of his motivations. "I fight for the vision of a united Greece, a land free from constant strife."
Leonidas' brows furrowed, a mix of skepticism and curiosity in his expression. "And do you truly believe that's attainable?"
Themistocles' voice was tinged with a touch of earnestness. "I do. I've seen the power of unity in the face of danger. We could achieve greatness together."
Their conversation was a strange interlude in the midst of battle—a momentary escape from the bloodshed that surrounded them. There was an odd connection forming, an understanding that their rivalry was built on more than just blind hatred.
The distant sound of a horn echoed through the air, signaling a temporary ceasefire as both armies retreated to regroup. In the stillness that followed, Themistocles and Leonidas found themselves standing side by side, the weight of their weapons no longer a barrier between them.
"I never thought I'd find common ground with a Spartan," Themistocles admitted, a trace of bemusement in his voice.
Leonidas grunted, a hint of a wry smile playing on his lips. "War has a way of forging unlikely alliances."
As the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows that stretched across the battlefield, the two rivals shared a moment of camaraderie—an understanding that beneath the armor and the enmity, they were both men driven by conviction. And as the ceasefire ended and the battle resumed, their blades clashed once more, each strike a testament to the complexity of their relationship.

perhaps a controversial helpol opinion but I don't think the orphic hymns are a good for 101 guides. orphism is a sector of scholarship on its own, with a particular context (especially when you get into the "orphism never actually existed" side of it) and the overall uniqueness of it. it is so different from most other sides of helpol I imagine it only confuses people--it did for me, particularly with the syncretism.
I think a lot of people are recommending them because they're hymns, not for the actual content and theology of them, since I doubt most people are going for that heavily syncretic eventual upg based practice. I see it more as an extra pursuit, akin to me reaching into Thessaly's religious practice for Enodia.

Hektor of Troy and Polydamas?
Very underrated if you asked me.
That is why you should enjoy this little story about them 😚:
"Even if Troy falls"
https://archiveofourown.org/works/65878690
Summary and more information under the cut:
Summary: Hektor disappears into his tower more often these days — not for rest, but for silence, for escape, for him. While the war outside Troy’s gates drags on, inside its walls another battle brews: the quiet war of duty against desire, tradition against change, and privilege against love. Polydamas was never meant to live in the world of princes. Hektor was never meant to fall in love with someone so far from what Troy expects.
But when the city turns against Polydamas and his family, and the fire isn’t just on the battlefield but at their doorstep, Hektor can no longer stay silent. Between ash-stained nights and blood-stained mornings, he must choose what kind of man he wants to be — not just for Troy, but for the only person who sees him for who he truly is.
This is not a story of glory. It’s a story of hands held in the dark, of whispered promises in the face of ruin, and of love that dares to exist where it was never meant to.

SHADOWVANILLA FANFIC PART 2!! (Warning: NSFW)
(Btw I'd suggest you read the first part 2 know wtf is happenin-)
Tumblr media
Y-you win! Okay, happy?! Just..please quit it, won't you?! Shadow Milk muttered clenching his jaw.
Hmm..dont think so, bluebird Pure Vanilla said with a soft smile as he began to increase his pace. Shadow Milk let out an even louder noise with his former whines and whimpers now turned into full-on gasps and moans, more specifically of his name.
Did I ever tell you how pretty you sound, bluebird? Pure Vanilla said softly as he stroked his fingers through his hair.
Shadow Milk's blush worsened and he tried to say Pure Vanilla's name in a threatening tone but all that came out was a choked moan as he suddenly increased his pace.
Hm, what was that bluebird?
S-shut your..bloody trap- Shadow Milk muttered trembling more as he felt himself get closer.
Suddenly a loud boomed voice was heard alongside heavy footsteps that could only belong to the guards causing both of them to jump out of their skin.
Get down get down! Pure Vanilla whispered in a hushed tone as he quickly draped his large cloak over him.
Shadow Milk grumbled but quickly softened up upon being covered by the comforting scent of vanilla and warm sunlight.
"Lord Vanilla, are you alright? I heard the news from a guard that that treacherous Shadow Milk has been seen around these fine areas!"
Pure Vanilla sighed and crossed his arms with an unamused look across his face, please I wish for you not to bother me in my rare moments of bliss, you should understand, right?
Y-yes..but-
No buts, I need for you to leave and PREFERABLY to not speak il of those who I l- I mean truly despise, just take your leave.
F-fine.. The guard muttered bowing with his palm on his heart as a sign of respect before he took his leave.
Soon the guard left and all was silent in the Pure Vanilla garden per usual. Pure Vanilla sighed but his feeling of relaxation was soon replaced with guilt that tugged at his heart due to how he simply tossed Shadow Milk aside.
B-bluebird..I'm sorry for that, I swear I didn't mean for th- He said softly as he walked over to Shadow Milk who was out of the frame and hidden by a fountain surrounded by various plant life.
Bluebird im so sorry I swear I di- Pure Vanilla said apologetically before he was immediately cut off by the sight of him no longer hidden as he walked over.
What's with the look, dumbass...Shadow Milk grumbled.
Pure Vanilla's eyes looked over the sight laid before him barely able to look away. Shadow Milk sat there with his hair a total mess, his face now covered with a blue hue blush and a pleading look on his face paired with his eyes wide and a needful look with his aching having gotten worse as it twitched and leaked more all over his lap.
P-please- I-I need..this- Pure Vanilla muttered breathlessly as he kneeled and sat beside him with both of his hands firmly placed on his knees forcing them open, exposing his aching more.
W-what do you THINK you're doing, PV?! W-what if the GUARD comes back!? Shadow Milk sputtered as his eyes widened.
I don't care...I need this, just please let me have this... Pure Vanilla pleaded as he looked up at Shadow Milk's embarrassed face that looked like he wanted to say something but was unable to.
F-fine- Shadow Milk muttered looking away as his entire being burned from the feeling of humiliation by PV's crude vague question.
Quickly Pure Vanilla wasted no time and wrapped his palm around his aching with it's sensitive self twitching as he began to take it in his mouth.
As Pure Vanilla took him in Shadow Milk quickly gripped onto his hair roughly and let out a groan, already overwhelmed by the various sensations.
D-damn it, you're gonna kill me, PV... He muttered between soft whines and muffled whimpers.
Pure Vanilla gripped his thighs and looked up at him with an apologetic yet smug look as he began to take him in.
Y-You little- Shadow Milk sputtered before he quickly let out a loud whimper alongside choked moans and gasps.
S-so..warm, oh god...PV, please- Shadow Milk whimpered and gasped as he roughly tugged on his hair harder without a care for all the claw marks left behind.
You taste so good, my love..please forever let me pleasure you Pure Vanilla said softly as he gripped his hips pulling him closer and forcing it all in.
Shadow Milk shuddered and trembled as he gripped his hair tighter with his aching twitching and leaking more light blue slightly sweet fluid. Shadow Milk tried to speak but all he could manage out was a whine followed by a strangled moan.
Pure Vanilla looked up and felt his heart rate increase as he saw the scene of Shadow Milk trembling with his mascara dripping down his cheeks as he shakily gripped onto his shoulders trying not to finish.
C-can I..p-please- He muttered in a strained voice with his voice cracking, barely able to get the words out.
Not yet, love, good things take time Pure Vanilla said softly as he looked up at a pleading Shadow Milk. Shadow Milk kicked his foot in a tantrum-like manner before he tightly gripped his hair harder and rolled his eyes. C-cmon?! You and me BOTH know that's bullshit?! He said with almost a growl to his voice as he forced a glare.
Pure Vanilla rolled his eyes and looked up at him, quit whining, won't you? He said scoffing with his voice laced with annoyance. Here..I'll take care of you, just let me, bluebird he said softly.
Pure Vanilla's fingers lingered on SMC's lips before he gently pushed two of his fingers in his mouth, there...
Shadow Milk let out an embarrassed whine before he slightly parted his lips and took two of his fingers in. Shadow Milk looked down at him with his ears burning up from embarrassment as gently bit down and wrapped his blue tongue around him suckling at the taste of vanilla.
That's it, bluebird... Pure Vanilla said softly as he gently pulled him closer.
So..p-please can I now- Shadow Milk muttered with his voice sounding meek.
Alright, don't worry, I'm a cookie of my word after all he said chuckling, Pure Vanilla said playfully as he looked up at him with a slight smile.
A darker blue hue tinted over SMC's face, spreading from his ears to his upper face as he muttered something along the lines of "Whatever, PV.."
As time passed Shadow Milk soon found himself digging his sharp teeth into his fingers with his noises slowly growing louder as he felt himself right on the edge.
"P-Pure Vanilla.." Shadow Milk muttered breathlessly as he looked down at him with his mascara running more down his cheeks as he held onto him tighter.
Don't worry, I've got you, love... Pure Vanilla said softly as he gently rubbed his thumb on the center of his palm causing him to calm down.
This small affectionate gesture finally caused Shadow Milk's heartbeat to calm down. Before he knew it his composure snapped with him accidentally forcing all of the aftermaths down his throat from how hard he was gripping his hair.
Slowly Pure Vanilla pulled away looking rather messy. His hair was a mess, the robes he wore under his cloak revealing underneath slightly the slits from Shadow Milk's scars, and his body was covered in purple and red markings.
G-good heveans..I sure haven't had quite an encounter like that with my "enemies" in a while, haven't I, bluebird? He said chuckling as he tugged him closer with his head back on his lap.
Oh yeah, h-hah..hah..reallll funny pal! Shadow Milk said out of breath while forcing his typical snarky tone.
You don't seem to be too amused with me, my bluebird?
Oh shut your trap, PV... Shadow Milk grumbled as he buried his face deeper in Pure Vanilla's lap.
-End-

I learned recently that the male (mlm) equivalent of sapphic is ACHILLEAN and gods it just feels Right, imma start calling myself achillean
Gay? Not quite. I am gay in the same way Achilles was gay: disastrous, twink-y, dramatic, loyal, doomed by the narrative but so full of rage the gods had to stop him unless he'd fell troy before it was supposed to fall, therefore almost breaking fate, and so fucking gay
Im achillean, i dont care, this motherfucked deserved having homosexuality named after him, he truly did, all he did was bitch, pout and slay and love patroclus, he deserves this

Sword Through the Heart - A Greek Romance
Chapter One: A Bitter Rivalry
The battlefield sprawled beneath the scorching sun, an arena of chaos and destruction. The clash of weapons and the agonized cries of fallen soldiers were the symphony of the damned, but amidst the madness, two figures stood out in stark contrast. Themistocles, the cerebral Athenian tactician, faced off against the indomitable Spartan King, Leonidas.
Their eyes locked across the expanse of blood-soaked earth, a silent exchange of promises laced with violence. Armor gleamed in the harsh sunlight, a testament to their formidable might. Each step forward carried the weight of their shared history, a history filled with conflict, power struggles, and an unshakable enmity.
As their swords met, the metallic clang reverberated through the air like thunder, their strength colliding in a dance of deadly intent. Dust kicked up with each movement, swirling around them as they circled one another. This wasn't just a battle between armies; it was a battle of wills.
"You Athenians and your silver tongues," Leonidas spat, his voice dripping with scorn as he deflected Themistocles' strike. "Always scheming, always plotting."
Themistocles' lips curled into a tight smile, a mixture of irritation and amusement in his eyes. "And you Spartans, so rigid in your ways, you'd think you were made of stone."
Their swords clashed again, a symphony of fury and skill. The tension was palpable, the air heavy with animosity that had festered for years. As they fought, sweat dripped from their brows, mixing with the dirt and grime that coated their skin.
Amidst the fury of their battle, a strange kind of understanding began to emerge. Each parry and thrust revealed a glimmer of respect buried beneath layers of hostility. It was as if they were two sides of the same coin, bound by fate to clash.
The sun's rays shifted, casting long shadows that stretched across the battlefield like skeletal fingers. The battle had been fierce, but now a quiet moment settled over Themistocles and Leonidas. Their eyes locked once more, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them—a recognition of the strength and resolve that fueled their rivalry.
"Until next time, Leonidas," Themistocles panted, his chest heaving from exertion.
"Indeed," Leonidas replied, his eyes narrowing as he readied for another onslaught.
With a final, thunderous clash of swords, they parted, their rivalry undiminished. The sun sank lower on the horizon, painting the battlefield in fiery hues, and as the dust settled, their legacy as bitter rivals remained etched in the annals of history.

"We All Know How The Story Goes"
[Greek Mythology, Apollo x Icarus]
Masterlist
Warnings: Angst, Hurt/slight comfort(but mostly not), sad ending
Word count: 609 words
A/N: Thank you to my friend for getting me back on the icarusxapollo train, even though you aren't on it yourself...?
Icarus loved the Sun. He had yearned for it all his life while he was stuck in the Labyrinth, paying for the sins of his father. He wanted to see the outside world, the people, the temples, the kingdoms, the Sun. But he flew too far, too close, in the glee of finally having the chance to see all that he had prayed for, in finally being able to bathe in the sunlight he had dreamed of all his life.
And the Sun loved back. He adored this innocent, fearless mortal who lived in such a cruel place. He loved his bravery, his loyalty, his heart, his yearning...
The world didn't deserve the bright mortal, but it got him anyway. So the Sun watched the mortal hope to leave his prison and make that same world a better place. The Sun heard when the mortal talked to him even though he couldn't see the celestial body. Icarus talked about how he imagined warmth from the Sun felt like, how it would shine and make everything else do the same.
The Sun loved the wishes and on days the beautiful son of Daedalus was saddened and hopeless, that maybe he would never see the above, the Sun would send some of its warmth through the cracks of the labyrinth, some light, and once the Sun had convinced the Wind to send him a breeze. It always made the mortal smile.
"Thank you." he would whisper to the Sun, "Thank you. One day, I will thank you while basking in your light."
The Sun waited for that day, for it had plans to confess to the mortal of his own yearning.
When that day came, the mortal and the Sun were so excited! They would finally get to see each other, who doesn't get excited when they finally see their beloved? The Sun held its breath as the mortal's father perfected the wings that would allow them to leave their prison. The mortal was so excited as he adorned the wings. They were flimsy but enough for their purpose. The mortal didn't doubt his father, so the Sun tried not to either.
He requested the Wind's help once again, this time to help its most loved. And the Wind, owing the Sun a favor, blew through the labyrinth, guiding Icarus's flight as he ascended higher and higher. The wings flapped with a delicate rhythm, the wax and feathers trembling just slightly. But the Sun, high above, was watching—its heart swelling with anticipation. It had waited for this moment for so long. The mortal, who had once been lost in the dark, was finally escaping into its light. The Sun could already feel the warmth of their meet as if it could already embrace him from above.
But the mortal, blissful in his newfound freedom, did not yet understand the consequences of such a love. The Sun had given him everything it could, sending its warmth, its light, its guidance—but it had not shown him the danger that came with proximity to its flames. The innocent mortal’s heart was pure, his joy so full that it blinded him to the screams of his father's caution.
For people don't know something very important, Icarus was not the one who loved Apollo most fiercely. It was Apollo who loved his Icarus so much, Too much.
Why is Icarus's happiness in his few seconds of freedom taken for greed instead of delight? Why is "Do not be too greedy." the moral of Icarus's story? Why is not "Be careful with love because sometimes it can destroy you"?
Why isn't it "The Sun's love is dangerous for mortals to have"?
Maybe we don't know the story after all.
