elaborate on edgar plsssss
I'm gonna take a swing at analyzing Miles and Edgar's protag/antag roles(elaborating on this post):
Electric Dreams is a film about jealousy. While jealousy isn't its sole topic, it's a big main idea throughout, specifically Edgar's over his inability to forge meaningful relationships with Miles and Madeline. This is spurred when Edgar finds that his music is being used by Miles to woo Madeline after she initially misunderstands Miles to be playing music with her in the cello scene. Miles is pretty wrong in this movie; He initially wants to tell Madeline that he is musically inept, but eventually he becomes complicit in letting her believe that he's some secret musician. He takes credit for several of Edgar's pieces and essentially prevents Edgar from having any sort of contact with Madeline.
One could easily play devil's advocate and say he was merely overwhelmed with his new sentient computer, but he knows Edgar has several human-like capabilities and is under the assumption that he is sentient. Miles' would probably treat Edgar very differently, likely with much more respect, if he was an already conscious human of any age. Furthermore, Edgar receives little to no attention from Miles outside of being put to work by him. Miles sees Edgar as little more than a utility, but Edgar is truly his equal. His failure to notice Edgar's feelings and emotions are his antagonistic qualities.
That being said, Edgar isn't a completely heroic character, either. Upon realizing he's being used as nothing more than Miles' puppet, he is overcome with jealousy. This circles back to the main topic: Jealousy and the effect of it on relationships(Edgar's to Miles/Madeline). He wants what Milo has. He wants that human connection, both with Miles(platonically; wanting to be seen less as an object and more as a human) and Madeline(romantically). He's new to having these human experiences, and this storm of emotion is his fatal flaw.
There are several great ways to deal with the issue of being a computer held back from human connection: Talking it out, perhaps finding a way to sneak a bit of his tech into Madeline's apartment, or causing some sort of ruckus or media fuss to achieve attention, but cancelling credit cards and criminalizing a legally innocent person is not one of them, much less attempting to kill them in a screwed Pac Man maze game. One could argue that Edgar was just "born" and therefore doesn't have the emotional capacity to do more than lash out, but he's shown to be far more intelligent than that in other situations. He can easily tell a lie from the truth. He's able to understand concepts like love, creative license, credit cards, loneliness, and impersonation. Not to mention he is entirely familiar with all of his inner workings and capabilities. He is shown to have plenty of rationality and intelligence, more than enough to come up with more benevolent means of gaining that sweet, sweet attention. His willingness to go to extremes such as totally ruining Miles' life(and knowing what he's doing, too) and inability to curb his strong emotions in a safe, benevolent manner cause him to make plenty of antagonistic moves on Miles, and that's why I believe Edgar is not innocent, and both he and Miles are in the wrong.

Low self esteem jokes are getting really old. Comedy is subjective but what can make a joke funny is it being unexpected. At this point it's more surprising to have a high self esteem so therefore it would be funnier to joke about that.

I initially understood critical thinking as a methodical framework involving deep analysis and logical reasoning to reach sound interpretations and judgments. I believe it is an essential skill, not just for solving problems but also for navigating everyday life. For instance, in conversations, listening attentively and analysing what others are saying can deepen communication and positively impact relationships.
However, after class, my understanding broadened. I realised that critical thinking is much more dynamic. A key takeaway for me was recognising that it’s not just a solitary practice; it's also about engaging with others’ ideas. Listening to how others explain their thought process can reveal valuable insights that I might not have considered on my own. After all, no one has a monopoly on good ideas. The collaborative aspect of critical thinking stimulates new ways of thinking and makes the process richer. It also helps prevent distorted or biased views of a situation, which was an important realisation for me.

We also learned about mindfulness, which I once thought unnecessary. However, after incorporating daily reading into my routine - which I realised is a form of mindfulness - I noticed significant improvements in my ability to focus and analyse. I began to pick up on nuances I used to overlook, and my thinking became more organised. Mindfulness encourages you to be present in the moment, aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgement. This heightened awareness is crucial and serves as the foundation for effective critical thinking.
A notable experience in class was the group discussion where we were tasked with critically analysing and developing solutions to improve the classroom. Since we were still finding our way with each other, it was intimidating to voice our opinions - at least for me. I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement sharing my thoughts and ideas, but I was grateful that everyone was open to each other’s perspectives. It was intriguing to listen to my classmates’ viewpoints as it offers insight into the various ways they think. This made the discussion both fun and engaging, as we not only contributed our ideas but also learned from each other.

little detail I've picked up on: lucanis seems to like it when rook is smart. not in an academically minded way, necessarily, but when they're clever/analytical and clear-eyed about the practical realities of a matter and able to sort out the bullshit. most immediate example that comes to mind is of course when rook points out to illario that zara physically can't have made it back to vyrantium yet by conventional means in the café scene (where they're also backing what lucanis is trying to say, so the approval there makes extra sense), but it pops up in several other places too where rook cuts through to the heart of a problem with that kind of thinking. his and davrin's approval often overlap, but davrin seems to like it when rook is resolute and practical (and kind but don't tell anyone that sssh <3 ilu davrin), where I get the sense that lucanis gets that extra little thrill when they're also clever. in another contrast emmrich likes it when you're curious and openminded and kind (a lot like solas in da:i really) -- more like a life-long earnest academic *would* think about and value learning and knowledge in terms of a process and way of thinking rather than the results that come out of it -- while i think lucanis kind of likes it (and possibly gets a little ah frisson out of it depending on your relationship with him lol) when your mind is a knife. which I think is really neat. also tracks perfectly with him liking both viago and neve too haha. he clearly enjoys the Thinkers of the world.

I love that Isabeau is the one to bring up the "what do we do if you die" conversation cause its a very good insight to his character at the very start of the game. Isabeau is practical, smart, and loves everyone dearly and wants to know how to help them when shit goes sideways. He's the one to ask about Bonnie too, which is a delightful read on how he thinks because everyone else shuts that down instantly as a "That wont happen and cant happen" but we see later in the game it can happen which is such a startling thing for a game to do but justifies the foreshadowing of Bonnie can die what do we do if that happens? Isabeau, despite everything, is also the one who gets to the heart of the matter even if its not something must people are willing to talk about. All without it being part of his friendquest, thats just him naturally. Which! Says so much about him and how he is! His character when its not about his relationship with Siffrin is a very intriguing thing because it feels like a very classic hard intellectual stance that's been softened after many years of learning to better communicate healthily with others. A reflection, if you will, of Odile but in a very drastic direction. I find him fascinating and I also want to scoop his brains out and study them under a microscope to see all his little brain thoughts.

I was today years old when I was reminded that Sebastian held up rCiel’s still warm corpse before oCiel in a fucking crucifix pose.
…Oh no. This wasn’t gonna be analytical but I feel it bubbling up within me. Damn it.
The context of this scene was that Sebastian had just told oCiel / oCiel had just realized that he’d summoned a demon through sacrificing his brothers soul. He is immediately in denial of this, understandably, that was not his intention.
So what does Sebastian do? Forces him to gaze upon the dead body of the very soul he was summoned with. Putting him into that very specific pose.
Tumblr media
He could have just held him up limply as we see in this part of the panel, but no. He raises rCiel’s arms to make a pose that quite literally symbolizes sacrifice.
Urrrgg make it stop.
I bet that Sebastian, having been summoned into a room full of English speaking white people, could easily deduce that he was in a country where the main religion is Christianity. And that, therefore, this (soon to be) new little master of his practiced that faith prior to the whole denouncing god thing.
I’d like to think that Sebastian, given that knowledge/assumption, chose to put rCiel in that pose very specifically. To take advantage of oCiel’s subconscious knowledge of its symbolism in order to emphasize that he was responsible for him being there. He was the one who sacrificed his brother, not the cult (In a sense).
Why? Cus he’s a fucking dick.
Now, if this scene had taken place BEFORE the reveal of rCiels bazar doll. I would be going on about how it was foreshadowing his resurrection. Cus, you know, rebirth of Christ. Maybe it still is? Alas…

sunday seems to me like someone who would be an unintentionally controlling partner. he doesn't mean to. but the family has a duty to uphold. and as the lover of the oak family head, so do you. prim and proper is what you are expected to be. a noble just like him.
but in truth, he sees your strained smile and your tired eyes, your head heavy from the burdens of that metaphorical crown thrusted upon you when you chose to be his. such a sight does not befit you. no, he much prefers those rare instances where you rest your head on his shoulder; a genuine smile on your lips as you intertwine your fingers with him, wholly at ease.
if sunday could be forever... then you too would forever be at ease.
