R2-D2's favoritism towards Anakin is so funny like, he's canonically the most foul-mouthed, ill-tempered, grump old cat-coded droid. The cute appearance is only an illusion to lure you in just so he can tase you, and maybe also kick you from behind just because he wants to. Even the disney princess Obi-Wan loved by all animals on first sight doesn't get along with R2. But he just. likes. Anakin. He's the wingman, he's emotional support, he's a good helper in battle. He carries snacks and checks if Anakin is hungry. He looks at this also ill-tempered angsty goth kid and said, yep that's my bff. Meanwhile Anakin goes around saying things like R2 is such a sweetheart 😌he's a little angel he's literally the best buddy anyone could ask for and I will risk my life to save him. Everyone else just looks like the demon droid and be like what the fuck are you talking about.

And the thing is that, as I mentioned in the following post, the Prequels actually created a need for the Sequels because they showed just how messed up things were before and even after the OT, and it presented several issues that were barely (if at all) addressed by the end of ROTJ. The corruption of the Jedi Order was barely addressed and it seemed that the corruption of the Old Republic and the damage done to the Skywalker family (especially on Leia's end) by Bail Organa and the remaining Jedi Councillors was just swept under the rug. These issues were bound to have terrible consequences later on, especially if nobody learned from them. Star Wars may be a mythology, but the thing about mythologies is that it's actually rare for the heroes to get a totally happily ever after, especially if there's still past mistakes and underlying flaws to address.
I wouldn't rely on George Lucas's claims that the Prequels completed the Saga, because he goes back and forth between that and saying that he'd had plans for a 9-film Saga since ESB or ROTJ. Because of this, the Sequels really did have a lot of potential and TFA really showed it, especially it was co-written by Lawrence Kasdan, who had helped George Lucas with ESB and ROTJ and had probably been let in on those early Sequel plans. After TFA, however, it's clear that Disney Lucasfilm strayed away from that and tried to do their own thing, and when JJ Abrams tried to get back to that with TROS, they hijacked the project and reshot everything so that it was almost completely different from had been originally intended.
Disney SW fans who claim to love Anakin but think the Prequels suck, you're part of the problem. And the OT purists who hate the Prequels and then turn around and blame them for why Disney SW sucks...yeah, you're part of the problem too.
One of the many reasons the Disney SW 'Sequels' were so terrible and destructive was because the people making them decided to completely ignore the importance of the Prequels and reject them as an intrinsic part of the saga. And they seemed to believe they were pandering to 'what the fans wanted' by doing this. But the Prequels are half the entire story as Lucas told it, and they just threw it out the window. The Prequels COMPLETED the saga. But Disney pretended that the saga wasn't complete yet and that it was up to them to do so. Instead of just making 'interquel' material from the beginning (like Rogue One, etc), they arrogantly took it upon themselves to 'finish' a story that was already completed back in 2005. And in doing so, Disney also decided to reframe the saga into something decidedly lesser (a repetitive grimdark story where the cycle 'wasn't broken ackshually', instead of an uplifting and transcendent mythic fairytale), but one which would allow them to continue making 'new canon' material indefinitely (cause that is more lucrative for them). But the Prequels had already reframed the saga and given it a very specific meaning. Without the Prequels, ALL of Star Wars loses that meaning. And without a happy ending for the OT characters and an unequivocally positive resolution to the their storyline, the entire saga is rendered into a perpetual tragedy. So, unless and until so-called 'Star Wars fans' can acknowledge and embrace just how intrinsic the Prequels are to the fictional story they supposedly 'like', they will be running around in circles trying to blame Disney's failures on the very thing that Disney so carelessly ignored and discarded in the first place.

The Barrissoka Fusion You Never Knew You Wanted
So in celebration of FINALLY rounding out the originally-planned slate of barrissoka Disney AU/fusion challenge fics, I thought I'd put together a masterlist for those of you who are new, returning, or just never got around to them when they were first posted!
By sheer good luck, there are an even split of AU types--three fusions (ie, Star Wars characters adapted to a non-GFFA setting), and three alternate timelines (where the core setting is the same, but events developed differently--in this case, in a way analogous to the core plot of the movie the challenge was based on.).
Fusions
Through The Darkness And The Shadows
Setting: Fantasy-Medieval AU: Beauty and the Beast
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young princess lived in a shining castle…
It'll Sound Like A Promise
Setting: Fantasy-Medieval (Scotland Redux) AU: Brave
A clan leader’s heir had to strive for perfection. That was why Ahsoka was currently hiding in a tree.
Look To The Sky With Hope
Setting: Pirates/Fantasy Age of Sail AU: Pirates of the Caribbean (62k, 5 chapters)
Anakin Skywalker. Every sailor knows that name. Captain of the ghost ship Twilight, ferryman of the dead. Some say he preys on merchantmen, out of vengeance for the loss of his ship and crew; others that he and the charred black phantom are an honest sailor's friend, a protector in the dark and the mist. According to Ahsoka, the truth is both and neither. But the Twilight is...well, it's not real. Barriss Offee may be new to this whole pirate thing, but she knows that. It's a legend, a story, a sailor's superstition; like mermaids and Fridays and the Kraken. The ship of the dead and its captain, they're just a myth. Aren't they?
Alternate Universes
Going My Way?
AU: Aristocats Podfic: By Writers_Block, available here.
Shipwrecked and stranded on a remote agricultural planet, Barriss Offee doesn't dare reveal her identity as a Jedi for fear of drawing unwanted attention that might endanger the younglings in her care. Enter the charming, compassionate young spacer Ashla, who drops everything to take the group under her protection and asks nothing in return, as Barriss grows more and more unhappy with the necessity of lying to a young woman who's been nothing but honest with them. Meanwhile, Ahsoka Tano and her master are on an undercover mission. She really wishes she could tell the scared young mother she's taken in that she's a Jedi, but, well. The mission has to come first.
Back To The Wind
AU: Cars. (I cannot emphasize enough that this is an AU and not a fusion. They are not cars. They are people. For the love of god. It's just a plot adaptation. Please stop asking me if they're supposed to be cars.)
A hyperdrive malfunction strands Ahsoka in a nearly-abandoned trading settlement in the Outer Rim. That's not the problem. While she works off her community service sentence, she ends up in the unofficial custody of a weirdly hostile Mirialan who won't stop giving her these long, searching looks and talking about the failures of the Jedi Order like she knows something Ahsoka doesn't. That's not the problem either. The problem is...Ahsoka's starting to wonder if she really wants to go back.
When These Moments Have Passed
AU: The Fox and the Hound
Jedi Master Plo Koon was sent to Shili to retrieve a Force-sensitive youngling...and arrived just a few hours too late. Years later, a Jedi padawan and an indentured bounty hunter find themselves in the same spaceport. They shouldn't be friends, not really, but...they're more alike than they are different, straining under the weight of roles they can't escape. That bond is stronger than the galaxy's expectations. Until it isn't.
Bonus
While these are NOT part of the very specific "I can turn any classic Disney movie into a barrissoka AU, fucking try me" original challenge that spawned all this, they're some very nice AUs and if you're into AUs in general, you'll probably appreciate:
Iced Offee, Caramel Twist
AU: Coffeeshop AU
(What? Someone had to write it.)
Mirror, Mirror
AU: Sith AU
(Series/Duology)

Hi, since you’ve been reading the star wars books, do you have one you’d recommend as a starting point for someone who’s never read any of them and is interested in seeing what they’re like?
Hi! This is going to be very subjective, given that I'm not sure what your favorite characters are or which era you're interested in, and if you're interested in the best books out there or ones that typify what the books are overall like. BEST BOOKS: - Revenge of the Sith novelization by Matthew Stover, god-tier ability to take my favorite SW movie and make it even more emotional and hard-hitting. It adds even more depth to the story, has beautiful writing, and just is a really satisfying read imo. - Padawan by Kiersten White, which is a story about a young Obi-Wan going on an adventure by himself and I think really captures how I see his youth, that there was struggle and difficulty, but overall it explains why he loves being a Jedi and why there's so much joy in his life. - Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule is good for if you're interested in the High Republic stories and I still think is easily my favorite of the entire line. There was so much good foreshadowing and banger lines that really got Star Wars and was an exciting plot to really hook me on THR.
BOOKS THAT MOST TYPIFY WHAT SW BOOKS ARE LIKE: - Brotherhood by Mike Chen is one that I have some stuff I side-eye in it (everything with Mace) and some stuff I was over the moon for (everything with Obi-Wan) and some stuff I was in the middle about (everything with Anakin). That's Star Wars novels in a nutshell for you! (I also think Dooku: Jedi Lost by Cavan Scott is another good starting place, it's an audiodrama, but it gives an interesting backstory to the character, has some interesting Jedi worldbuilding, and does some really great character work with Asajj Ventress.) - Wild Space by Karen Miller is a Legends book (and I usually try to stick to Disney continuity just for ease's sake) but it has some eyeroll-worthy stuff, some unearned stuff, and some absolutely batshit bonkers in the best way stuff. It's a RIDE to read and maybe not one to take super seriously but I feel like it captures the spirit of SW books. (Alternate suggestion: Dark Rendezvous by Sean Stewart is a really good Yoda & Dooku book with a lot of good appearances by other Jedi characters and one of the better books for Jedi stuff, plus lots of feelings and banger conversations between characters.) (Alternate-alternate suggestion: Another Legends suggestion, since there are a lot of SW books in that continuity, you could read the Jedi Apprentice series by Dave Wolverton and Jude Watson, as long as you know they're aimed at a pre-teen audience and are written accordingly and they are SUPER dramatic and put Obi-Wan through the wringer. I'm not always wild about Watson's writing, but when she writes a banger line, she writes a BANGER line, and they're very fun books that a lot of fandom still folds into their writing.) - The Aftermath trilogy by Chuck Wendig is a good place to start if you want to explore the connective tissue between the originals and the sequels, though I always recommend that I think they work a thousand times better as audiobooks. It's mostly new characters (which, welcome to SW novels) but it also has some really good Leia and Mon Mothma scenes, too. - Leia: Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray is for if you're more interested in the Original Trilogy characters and while I wish there'd been more worldbuilding in this one, it's a solid story from someone who genuinely loves this character, and will give you a good idea of what you can expect from Leia books. (If you're more interested in a Han/Leia story, The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis is on the same level. Solid story with occasional moments of fantastic. I had a blast with the Leia sections especially!)

Eh, no I just straight up didn’t like TFA, lol. It felt like a complete rehash of ANH and not in a good way. To be fair, I haven’t watched it more than twice since it came out. It just…didn’t interest me. This is just my personal bias because I loved the OT trio (prequel trio is my favorite though!), was so excited to see them back and felt utterly let down I think. And having new characters like Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, and so on shoved down my throat vs them? Yeah, it actually pissed me off at the time especially with how little we got and the storylines for them. I’m not objective in regards to the sequels at all, largely because as a viewer and fan I felt used. The other two films just made it worse. There was potential for Rey and company, but any interest on my part died rather quick at the disrespect to the OT characters to promote the new ones. So on this point we probably won’t agree. But thank you for your perspective and thoughts!
I understand what you're saying and respect your disagreement. But just to be fair, I wouldn't blame that objection of the OT trio's sidelining on the story of TFA itself, but on the screenplay writer before JJ Abrams minimizing Luke's role due to not knowing how to include him without overshadowing everyone else and on Harrison Ford wanting Han to die since the production of ROTJ. Combine that with the fact that older characters traditionally tend to step back in sequels to make room for the next generation, and I think that this kind of development would have been inevitable for any Star Wars sequel, at least for Han Solo. This is especially since Lawrence Kasdan, the guy who helped George Lucas write ESB and ROTJ, also helped JJ Abrams write TFA, and George Lucas had had the foundations for it planned out for decades, so we probably wouldn't have seen much different if Lucas had written it.
The adopted son idea for Han and Leia was just me spitballing ideas and what-ifs. I like and agree with how you said Leia’s rejection of her own true blood parentage is part of her tragedy in the sequels. That works. I’d just personally prefer a story where such a tragedy is circumvented for Leia and Luke (killing the stupid disaster lineage stuff) and continuing the trajectory established by the OT and still having struggles.
Again, I understand what you're saying here, but TBH, circumventing that tragedy kind of defeats the purpose of what I'm referring to in my OP here. Bail Organa and the Jedi's misdeeds against Luke and Leia were against them personally and their family, so it's only logical and fair that the biggest tragic effects of that would be on their family, especially in the next generation, instead of merely being political and institutional. So as a large part of the point of my OP has been, that "stupid disaster lineage stuff" logically is part of the trajectory set by the OT and the PT, as much as I'd hate to say it. After all, if those family issues resulting from that separation and manipulation of the twins isn't addressed by the end of the OT, how is it not going to come back and blow up in everyone's face later on? And yes, that disaster could have been mitigated with more surviving Skywalkers, but I'd blame that on the executives messing with the latter two films and tampering with Rey's origins instead of sticking to her being Luke's daughter like I'm sure she was going to be.
And, erm, calling the lynchpin character Anakin Skywalker was probably a bit presumptuous on my part. Frankly, since Anakin is my favorite character of the whole franchise, he is the biggest draw for me as a fan. Which is why I speculated more about having him present and at least sharing his story with Luke and Leia, telling them about Padme and their love etc. That way if, for example, Leia still felt conflicted and had an issue and wanted Anakin to stay away he would but he’d at least be mentioned respectfully by the characters themselves if that makes sense? Like he was Vader and did horrible things! Leia has every right to not want to talk to him. But she deserves to hear her history in full just like Luke.
I understand that and I'm with you on Anakin being my favorite Star Wars character. It would have been nice if Anakin had been more present (especially with the twins) after his death, but again, I don't see it necessarily happening for reasons I already mentioned.
The two points you make about the lore regarding Force ghosts is fair. I think my disagreement is only with the second and it’s a perception thing that didn’t even register fully as an issue. Because, in my mind, Anakin found peace after he died and was reconciled so he could feel remorse but not crushing guilt…that’s my Christian bias sneaking in though and applying itself to a story that only has elements of my faith in it tho. How in heaven as we are brought into the Lord’s kingdom and meet our true Savior, Christ Jesus the Lord, and see the nail holes in His hands and feet and weep knowing I put those marks there, I am guilty, and am yet forgiven and loved and He is welcoming us home and all the ugly things are passing away as we are made new and whole…tangent, sorry. But this is in the back of my mind and I think I applied it to Anakin’s story subconsciously so I didn’t fully consider the things you said. I’m thinking about it now.
As a fellow Christian (at least in faith), I know exactly what you mean. As nice as that idea of inherently experiencing peace as a Force ghost would sound, there's evidence against it in the form of Obi-Wan's Force ghost in ESB and ROTJ. We see him in those films with the exact same mindset and the exact same psychological issues that he had right before he died, to the point of continuing the same manipulation and deception on Luke. That's evidence that becoming a Force ghost has no significant effect on one's psychology, so even as one, Anakin would still have suffered from that same psychological damage that he would have if he'd survived. Even that smile that he gave Luke at the end of ROTJ was probably masking that trauma for everyone else's benefit, and I doubt that he had figured out that Leia was his daughter by then. Once that happened, he certainly would have been devastated and guilt-ridden from his actions against her.
As for the ‘Ahsoka’ show and Anakin/Vader’s appearances, I agree with you. But I’d also go farther and say I consider it and the Kenobi show nice fanfiction, but not part of the real story due to OOC behavior and story. Got to see some of my favorite actors return to their characters and have a chance to explore their characters more and that is where my enjoyment of just those select scenes comes from and where it ends. What frustrates/annoys me is people saying it’s canon now and so on and how it and Ahsoka have taken over fandom fanfiction, which was my introduction to ‘fandoms’ at large alongside LOTR.
My thoughts exactly. That's why I'm leaning towards not considering the Ahsoka show canon, along with the Kenobi show and everything produced by Disney so far except for TFA, Rogue One, and maybe The Mandalorian. However, it doesn't help that everyone from the producers to the wikis are explicitly calling it official canon. Maybe when it all comes tumbling down, they can pick out the good media to keep, scrap all the rest, and start over from there.
As for everything else, it seems like we're on the same page and I'm glad that you have no enmity against any of the actors.
Unpopular opinion: I know that a lot of Star Wars fans are peeved about the tragedy of the sequels negating much of the happy ending of the original trilogy, but honestly, that's actually one of my favorite parts of the sequels. Why? Because it means that well-intentioned hypocritical nutheads like Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Bail Organa don't get to get away with underhanded, morally unethical stunts like separating the twins from each other, kidnapping them from their biological families, lying to them about their heritage, grooming them against their own father, and using them to try to restore their own power and get everything back to the old status quo that got them into this mess in the first place. We all get to see the consequences of such tactics and nobody (who's paying attention) gets to say that "this and that" was okay because everything turned out fine in the end.
Because even though Luke managed to break the cycle of darkness and abuse on his end by the end of the original trilogy, we never really saw that happening with Leia on her end, nor did we see many of those family issues from that separation and manipulation or many of the problems with the Old Jedi Order or any of the problems with the Old Republic get even addressed. Many of the underlying issues of the prequels that came from people not learning from their mistakes just got swept under the rug. At least with the tragic events that happened in the sequel era (at least in TFA, before Lucasfilm messed everything up in the subsequent sequels, which I don't count as canon), we get to see many of the effects of such corrupt and dysfunctional methods that these "heroic" elders used, and in some way, there's some poetic justice in that, even at such a high price. And I know that many of you are saying that "Star Wars is supposed to be a fairy tale or myth; it's not supposed to be realistic", but let me remind you that not every fairy tale has gotten a happily ever after (at least in its early versions) and it was actually quite rare for mythological heroes to get a happily ever after either.
Disclaimer: This is mostly about TFA, which was much more consistent with the original lore. I acknowledge that the later two sequels didn't have as much consistency or respect for the original lore (or even with TFA), so I don't count them as canon.

May the Force be with you.
Star Wars Men and Women celebrating Star Wars Day with you
Tumblr media
Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ben Kenobi), Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, Leia Organa, Luke SKywalker, Han Solo, Rey, Poe Dameron, Finn, Kylo Ren(Ben Solo)
Taglist: @akela
The Prequels
Obi-Wan Kenobi
This man is so sweet, he's confused why there's a singular day to celebrate The Force in your universe but he's all for it. He considers today to be a special occasion and thus uses the force today for the tiny things.
Anakin Skywalker
He's roaming the day in his robes, (the only time he wears them) and he uses the force as he normally does, but this time it's mostly for you. He's got his arms around you and casually floating this around you and for you. He doesn't take today to celebrate the force, he takes today to celebrate you.
Padme Amidala
She doesn't have the force but takes today to celebrate her life, like another life day. She's here to dance around with you and has a grip on your hips.
The Originals
Luke Skywalker
Luke's still young and yet he's got a huge grip on the force, just like his father but he doesn't use the force for silly things like floating things for you unless you expressly ask him for it. He's glad to spend today with you.
Leia Organa
She's a princess, not a Jedi. She can't do that force stuff like her brother can, but she's glad to spend a day with you and be yours without any diplomatic stuff.
Han Solo
He doesn't get it really, he just knows today's a day to celebrate him and who he is. He's secretly excited that in some universe, there's a day to celebrate what he's done to the universe as a sexy man. (yes, he's seen the edits)
The Sequels
Rey
She doesn't call herself a Jedi, even after everything she's gone through, she's just Rey but she loves to spend a day with you celebrating her universe. She feels like she's accomplished something other than saving her universe. She's glad to spend a day with you, watch TV, and drink wine.
Poe Dameron
THIS MAN FLIRTS FOR THE ENTIRETY OF TODAY! He's all like "A day just for me??" even when you explain it's not just for him. He gets serious though when he realizes that your universe marketed off the things that happened in his. (Google, execute Order 66) He wants to watch the movies with you though; seeing the past might be fun.
Finn
He's more of a "Can we not talk about what happened?" person when it comes to him realizing that your universe celebrates his universe for an entire day. (He wants all the Lego sets) He loves seeing the videos and stuff and doesn't want to watch the movies, so he'll watch the shows with you. (He likes Mando and thinks he and Poe would get along well)
Kylo Ren (Ben Solo)
He's very sweet, much like his grandfather, using the force to move things around for you. He wants to watch the movies, by the way. He then finds it creepy just how alike the actors are to how his family and enemies look like. (Oh baby don't go to Disney) and so he just sits and watches the Bloopers that come with the movies.
