In my last post I started untangling my weird feelings around internet fandoms having the problem of people who haven't actually engaged with the source material. And in the spirit of putting some positivity into this world, now I wanna talk about why the Aphmau fandom doesn't have this problem and it's awesome.

Because nobody is a part of this fandom who hasn't seen at least one of Jess' roleplays. Whether it's one of the Big Three of MyStreet, Minecraft Diaries, or My Inner Demons, or one of her incredibly obscure roleplays that are only preserved in unlisted playlists (which is also Minecraft Diaries), or even watch her current content, you've seen at least one, if not multiple or all of them. Me personally, I've seen like... 90%? I haven't seen a lot of the smaller ones, like Dreams of Estorra or Mermaid Tales, but I will get to them.

Regardless of your engagement level, though, there is a baseline understanding that if you're posting in this fandom, you've watched Aphmau videos. We don't have the problem of people making their bad takes based on someone else's conjecture completely uniformed by canon.

Instead, our bad takes are informed by Canon, and I love that for us. I love that some of us [gestures to myself] love some series enough to tell you the exact episode that any wild plot point happened in. Others remember watching MyStreet in 2018 and are drawing fanart entirely because they heard the announcement about the new seasons, and it activated their Aphmau sleeper agent state. There's a lot of variety, and variety is where fandoms thrive.

Depending on your circle, you can get a crazy mix of takes and experiences with people based on the same source, just completely different relationships to it. Talk to anyone in this fandom who has a rare pair, and they can give you a detailed lecture on the full lore of this rare pair and it's ever fluctuating state in the fandom.

Ask an MCD Laurance fan why he's their favorite character, and you get the full spectrum of character analysis out there. From surface level, "He's hot and tragic and tortured, and I like that" to multi paragraph essays about his complexity and relationships to characters and the very concept of his existence. Talk to a Vylad fan long enough, and they may inevitably make a joke about Jess and Jason being Garte coded for their neglect of him, meanwhile Zane Ro'meave fans are eating good in every universe, while Garroth enjoyers pick apart his brain under a microscope.

No matter what, there's something interesting. There's something new to discover. And that level of shared but different experiences can only come from a place of genuine love attached to the source that is shared. There's no pretending you watched them, there's some idiots who try to pit the shows against each other, but they're the minority. Most of the people in this fandom are really lovely, and I can guarantee that all of them have lost at least a few hours of sleep over the years thanks to these silly little minecraft roleplays.

Alright chat, remember to be respectful about Lizzie and Joel's kid! Do not theorize about the name, or try to get more information out of them when they stream/on their comments!! It was already weird seeing people theorize about Lizzie being pregnant. They will share whatever they want to share. Just let them enjoy this time. Being a new parent is tiring, do not add to that stress!

That said, I'm so happy for them, they are going to be wonderful parents <3
