You know the psychological thing called baby schema?

What would be the cybertronian equivalent of that? Whatever it is, it's propably different in bayverse than other continuities because it depends on how their babies look like.

(My take is that transformer babies are big-eyed round colorful blobs, maybe tsum tsum-like or not, and are born tiny. Now that i think about it, TFP scraplets look disturbingly similiar to that)

I like a variety of takes (again for me it depends on what situation/rules I'm working with), and it's always kinda funny to see how it applies to what cybertronians find "cute". I've seen posts about how in certain aus humans ding that "oh, it's like a baby!" button in mecha's brains, but I also find it insanely funny when cybertronians call things cute and humans are completely confused about it. My current favorite is certain devices emitting a similar EM range as sparklings, or just in general inanimate devices mimicking cybertronian EM fields.

• In the case of Lest ; Ahri & Aurora; those are from tip of feet to top of their heads; their ears would obviously make it far higher & add a certain amount of extra inches. Lillia is also from the tip of her front hooves to the top of her head; the bloom upon her head adding extra inches too. • In the case of Nami; this is from the top of her head to the (ground) where her tail curls over the everlasting water commanded beneath her form. Her whole length to the tip of her tail fins is almost double. • LeBlanc's height is mainly this one ; yet it may change depending on her disguise & facade. Ex: Madame Selene being closer to Ahri's height more likely ; Lord Evan almost close to Lest's height ; etc. She can alter it fully if she so desires with her glamour; but prefers to stay in her naturally-given one... sometimes just being herself is more delightful after all.

good lord I’m almost done with this semester! uni has been rough plus stressful this year. I had a bad professor being kinda dismissive of my disability also unprofessional with my tests taking (being late with opening my test, one point it took an hour to open). Yeah pretty much still on my hiatus but I’ll try my best to pop in to do drafts and work on my blog. So here’s this cute toy I saw at the dollar tree. Dealing with that was stressful and I didn’t want to bring that kind of energy here or discord, but things are getting better. Sending everyone good vibes.

Finally watched Goncharov (1973) and while I’m not generally into mafia movies... the Fruit Stand Scene???!!!

THIS LIVES RENT-FREE IN MY MIND NOW.

Katya gives Sofia the apple. Sofia hands Katya the pomegranate. The Eve-Persephone parallels (women whose destinies changed irrevocably after being tricked into eating a piece of fruit) are SPECIFICALLY invoked. But the real question is, which one is which?

The framing of the scene suggests that Sofia is Eve (about to lose her sense of innocence and be inducted into the knowledge of evil), and that Katya is Persephone (trapped by a marriage that binds her forever to the (criminal) underworld). Except, that also makes no sense because we don't see them eat the fruit. How could they reap the consequences for an action they didn't actually take?

I would argue that it's not about the fruits they RECEIVE... it's about the ones they OFFER. The fruits they have already eaten, and been doomed by.

Sofia doesn't need to learn about evil. She lost her whole family. She knows enough about evil already. And Katya doesn't need to be bound to anything, when her own choices have left her so deeply entrenched.

Katya is Eve. Katya got roped into this mess a long time ago and has so many regrets now that she understands what it all means. Katya plays her piano in the room next to a murder, not because she doesn't know what's going on, but because she DOES. Katya wishes more than anything that she could turn back the clock to some idyllic time before her daughter died, before she joined the mafia, before she ever had to steal a purse or put a gun to a man's head. She tries so hard to end that cycle of violence... and it doesn't work. It was never going to work. The Apple of Eden isn't part of a cycle; it's just the beginning of the story.

"Don’t you dare speak to me about Cosenza." (1:20:41)

Sofia is Persephone. Sofia is constantly arguing that murder isn't necessary- but she also nearly drowns Katya, and shows a bizarre fascination with death when Katya threatens her with the knife. Sofia is linked to nature (the green dress, the sunset motif, the vase of flowers in her first scene) but in paltry, disconnected ways (her dress has metal buttons, the sunsets are over the city, the flowers are halfway to wilting). Sofia is part of a cycle; moments of happiness and joy, interspersed and defined by recurring instances of death and violence. Her childhood in WW2. The incident where she lost her leg. Whatever happened that made her learn how to use a gun. Her whole bloodied dynamic with Katya now. But Sofia CAN escape... for a time. She can walk away from the violence and have her summer in the sunlight. At least until tragedy strikes again.

Which makes the ending of the movie really bittersweet. Sofia sails away on the boat (Charon's Ferry, making a reverse trip across the River Styx). And the scene closes as the first snowflakes start to fall. Winter comes to Naples, because spring follows Persephone when she leaves.

Sorry. Forget my ask about the Monkey King movie. It's not the best, and westernaised. I just talked about the animation. Sorry it was stupid ask that I sent (and also I didn't know that you saw it, sorry). So sorry.

asfgerwrefsd ANON it would be an act of vile hubris on my part to assume people regularly check my blog to see what I have and haven't answered, so seriously no need whatsoever for your to apologize, especially since there was nothing stupid or harmful at all about the ask you sent! And I'm aware enough about my tastes to know that I'm EXTREMELY picky when it comes to JTTW retellings, so retellings that work for other people will be ones I'll be a lot more harsh on (see for example my history of dunking on Chinese retellings that focus on a Sun Wukong romance). Plus I think it's a good, indeed vital part of criticism to know that you can recognize a story's flaws and still enjoy other elements of it. And as is besides agreeing with you that the fight scene animations were indeed pretty cool, of the Western retellings of Xiyouji I've seen this did feel like a bit of a step in a neat direction in terms of being up-front in giving its protagonists morally gray but understandable motives for doing what they do. The Monkey King's brutal honesty is something I love about his character in the og classic, and it was kind of neat to see a version of that in the Netflix film. So while we haven't yet gotten a western JTTW retelling where the writers respected the "intelligent" in "intelligent stone primate," and while there's always more that can be done to not westernize stories from other cultures, I'd say that Netflix's Monkey King is a pretty decent addition to the ever-growing library of JTTW retellings out there.
