thinking about them again (icemav 86)
hey babe wake up. top gun. watched a video about queer villany and oohuhhhhhhhhgllglggggg.ggg.
ice is, in the very since of the word, the perfect antagonist- hes rude, stuck up but in an obvious way, hes directly against everything maverick does while maverick is the hero (he has the same problems as ice though.) ice fits into the norm but at the same time we are only shown mavs perspective which is inherently different than almost all the aviators
you could argue "wow ice is evil" and like sure but its refreshing to see someone whos not entirely bad but rather misguided- we know icemans character is like this because of his father (ty val kilmer for this btw) , and hes trying hard to fit into a world that will never accept him. and that. honestly doesn't make him awful. even in arguably his worst times he still comes back, hes not an irredeemable character, nor is maverick.
they are such opposites that we never know whats the real "true" standard - mavericks not standard on being an outsider but iceman isnt either on being a hater with maverick
also funnily enough, iceman is one of the only charachters to actually have a big problem with maverick! slider, wolf, wood, sunny, etc etc dont shit talk him. but ice is constantly pushing back against those standards because maverick represents the wrongdoing to him.
DEAR G-D ICEMAN PLEASE STOP WITH YOUR INTERNALIZED HOMOPHOBIA AND KISS HIM ALREADY!!!!!
however as he grows up he recognises those actions- at the end of the movie he doesnt see maverick as bad. he sees him as good, and promises that hell be there. MWAH eating this redemption arc UP.
and while maybe ice still has skills that have to be worked on its not entirely evil- and connecting back to the queer thing, to show a charachter who looks evil but also is capable of growing and changing and not being evil just for being gay
maverick is more accepting of his identity but yet they still falter but they can still pick each other back up
i hate these gay bitches so much its actually sickening someone please sedate me .

Things I hate about my fandoms
(I will probably make posts about each of them later going more in depth)
⚠️These DO NOT apply to ALL members of these fandoms⚠️
Cartoons:
Miraculous: mischaracterisation of Kagami as a bad person who just want to ruin the love square. But at the same time they love luka because he's just a sweet little baby boy 🥺👉👈
The owl house: Hunter and Ed interacted once and people started shipping them while they complain about Hunter and Willow for having a 1 year age gap. Also people acting like everyone is siblings
Amphibia: they care about the main trio too much to care about any other character at all
Gravity falls: where do i even start
Steven universe: The Su!c!de incident (dont worry she survived)
The ghost and molly mcgee: they hate Ollie for no reason even after his redemption arc for getting in the way of Molly x Libby or Andrea. They say he and molly look like siblings but their eye colors, skin colors and hair colors are different. (Tbh they cant take it when both characters in a pairing are Asian).
Dwampyverse: Too many NSFW art of children
Ducktales: I like them. Nothing bad about them other than they just ignore canon sometimes but hey, so do I.
Hilda: same as the Dwampyverse
Tangled: pretty chill but please dont ship Varian who's 16 with Cass who's 25.
Infinity train: Saying Lake, Ryan and Min aren't queer coded. Like are you blind? Its fine if you don't ship Rymin or use She/her for Lake but remember cartoon network Stopped the creator from putting those in.
Lego monkie kid: pretty ok fandom. Nothing bad to say about them.
She ra: im pretty late to this fandom so I haven't seen anything bad but as a DT megafan the fandom doesn't give them enough attention to them lol
Dead end: too small
Kipo: WAY too small
Live action movies:
Heathers: (see Musicals)
Dead poets society: ITS DYING WE NEED MORE FANWORKS
Games:
Undertale: the needle cookie incident (they're ok now don't worry. Dont take food from strangers kids)
Stardew Valley: Toxic arguing over the Bachelors and Bachelorettes. Acting like Haley and Alex are some irredeemable monsters. like, have you tried befriending them?
Musicals:
Heathers: Acting like Heather McNamara is some sweet little angel. Like no. She is sad and deserves better but that doesn't mean shes nice. (In other words: she is damaged, far to damaged, but that does not make her wise)
Hamilton: the HIV incident (just search Hamilton HIV to know the context). Also harassing anyone who isn't the OG cast.
Ride the cyclone: Acting like the characters are so pure and innocent. Like, im against NSFW of the kids too, but the whole point of Ricky is that hes not so sweet and innocent as a disabled person. Or the whole point of Noel is that he wants to be "fucked up". The tiktok fandom is also super biased to the original cast (meanwhile tumblr loves it)
Six: Saying Jane isn't a powerful woman because she wants to get married and have kids

Normally i don't do this because like. While I'm well aware i can have my own opinions, i still don't want to make anyone feel bad for me being a disliker ( maybe hater? ).
Spoilers / talking about the new Venom movie below. If you liked it I'm glad you did! If you want to explain in why in comments, feel free! /genuine
I'll start with: i had a bad-ish day so maybe everything soured my mood and i wasn't ready i. The end. I also picked the wrong ticket and had to watch it in 3D < not a 3D fan due to being sensitive to flashing lights.
What i did like:
Implications of being bonded since v1
Knull ( surprisingly, i hate the comic story though I'm gonna be so real. But its been awhile since i looked up the plot/story ).
Agony and the Christmas themed Symbiote
Horse.
Dancing.
The blue symboite and that fire symbiote ( so pretty?? I loved the different powers and such. I want to draw both of them ).
The symbiote hunter, shes gorgeous.
What i Did NOT like:
Toxin being erased entirely.
They killed of Carnage and Cletus in 2 so this whole thing flopped without them IMO
You can see where Disney or Sony whoever wanted this or that but when Tom or whoever didn't want it, it got scrapped and had messy left overs.
Too much action and too much comedy ( the dancing was fine, but the hippie family deal went on a bit too long imo ).
Why was Agony introduced but not the other three? Specifically Scream at least?
Knull having his own thanos moment for sony, a spin off or whatever they're doing.
Eddie's ENTIRE attitude.
That Montage was ASS. Hate that song too.
Too much going on imo
I would have loved to have a genuine queer moment, a kiss, a "i love you", literally anything. I can MAYBE understand if they tried but Sony or Disney said no ( fuck them ) but still. And no i was one of the few that hope there wasn't fucking or kiss with HARD tongue ( i am ace and also these two are my dads to me, it would've been awkward ). Yeah i see some people saying "Its textual" !!!
Yea sure thats nice but aren't you tired? It doesn't have to be queer baiting but like. I'm so tired.
Even if you remove that um? Its not.. that great.
I'm WILLING to watch it again and read positive sides. Because my mood just may have soured.
i think my biggest issue if i take everything away what i just said, is Eddie just going back to being annoyed at every little thing Venom does or wants. ITS OKAY to be concerned about being found by the hunter, but even before then hes just so done. And even during? He should've been concerned. Or Yeah he CAN be annoyed / irritated, but it should be with care. This felt like he was back to thinking of Venom as a tumor, something he just needs to get rid of.
It was vastly upsetting as someone who has partners. Like.. it would be okay if this was the second or first- but it isn't!!!!! And yeah couples fight, but they didn't even do that. Couples have disagreements! But they didn't even talk it out or anything.
Also like? One of my things that bugged me was, when Eddie was complaining about his feet, and we knew Venom couldn't fully take over..... why didn't Venom just yk. Cover his feet for him and walk? That would have been a subtle sweet gesture while they could've still been bantering and so on.
If they had like. Argued, fought, had an emotional moment at the end, Eddie was upset he never got to apologize- i could see it. But thats another thing- he wasn't even THAT upset...
Its fine to not be a super empathetic person, fuck i dont always cry appropriately either. But he didn't show Nothing and not in a "i'm a no empathy person" way.
Idk!!!!!!!! My brain is scrambled.
People have said a lot of what i have problems with already but idk i just!!! Feel the need to put it out there.
Also i missed the second end credit scene :,)
Note: I'm not angry or completely a hater. More so neutral and not a huge fan of some things.

Writing Challange
For?: Anyone, but really I think it would be a pretty interesting study to have “anti-shippers” of the couples in question, to write these scenes.
Prompt: Re-write cannon scenes of popular “completely straight” gay ships that “fans created” and writers/showrunners/actors never encouraged or used as “queerbate”, as heterosexual relationships using the exact same actions and words and emotions as the original scenes.
Why?: I think it would be interesting to see just how many people would still see that particular couple the same way and how many would discover they actually do just have an aversion to gay ships.
I think that alot of people see the word “queerbaiting” and dont fully understand it. They take it like “oh they’re angry coz they didnt get their way, and they just want to make everything gay” … that is so completely not what it is.
Its understandable in a sense that the term queerbaiting isnt fully understood by all because theres no such thing as “straight-baiting” in television and movies. Its the actual complete opposite … when its a male/female relationship, its called a “slow-burn”, inferring that it will eventually become something. Its called “taking advantage of the actors chemistry” and while it is talked about and hinted at as a “will they/ wont they” its never actually in question because the majority of the time, chemistry reads are done between these actors for the specific reason of knowing “will this sell?” But when it comes to queerships, once upon a time they happened by accident. Actors were brought in with a different storyline and then something showed up on screen that wasnt intended and through that they discovered that there was this entire massive subset of fans who were not being acknowledged in life or on television … so they did exactly what they did with their straight relationships. They took advantage. They teased and hinted and wrote things that had they been a “usual” couple, would eventually lead to “endgame”. They encouraged the will they wont they of it all. Took advantage of that chemistry. The only difference? They never intended to give their fanbase that eventual outcome. They straddled the line of keep them invested but never encourage. And now? Now it seems that its become a requirement for shows, to have that one relationship that is strictly-straight friends, “which is so much more special then romantic love sometimes”… but they will still play off of it and benefit from merchandise and views and hashtags and everything that brings in a dollar from fans who are only looking for exactly what they’re calling it … “every kind of love” …. Why cant two women have a healthy faithful relationship? Why cant two men who are best friends, ALSO fall in love with each other? Why cant a character who has only ever identified as “straight” grow and realize that they’re bi or pan or gay? And why cant two people be both best friends and queer but also find love with other people? Why cant a queer man and a straight man have a healthy loving friendship that doesn’t have to end horribly? A big part of it is because of those words! Words that for so long have been used as homophobic slurs and still today in Twenty-freaking-twenty-four are used with hate instead of what they actually ARE which is how people identify how they LOVE . Words that the LGBTQIA+ community have taken back and fight every day to redefine with love and Pride and positivity, but that the “ entertainment industry” still shy away from due to a history of hate-filled, un-informed homophobia. An instilled fear that if they step over that line, then it will all fall apart. That the villagers will come with their torches and pitchforks and storm the castle so to speak. So they stay just this side of “not too far” and spout the company line. “I think its really important that we show every kind of love” but never actually doing that. Because the other company line is “who else can we exploit for a dollar?”. And its not new. The entertainment industry has always used queer people to their advantage. Once upon a time it was for the “hilarity” of a man or woman dressing in drag to get away with some scheme. Or it was about gay bashing and feeding into hate and fear by showcasing what a horrible insult it is to be called gay or how dangerous it is to be out. How sexy it is for two women to be together - but only to turn on the straight male lead. Now its become something along the lines of a joke again, but now the joke is “we know what we’re doing and we’re going to keep doing it because we’re profiting off of it, off of you.”
Queerbaiting isnt us seeing something unintentional or not there. Queerbaiting is this: if the same scene can be rewritten the same way but as female/male, and you can suddenly see it as romantic, its because the relationship is queer coded, to pull in specific fans.
Scripts are not just dialog on a page. While actors are sometimes given leeway, they are given a script telling them how to portray the words on the page. How to move, speak, emote. A director films this, re-sets films again multiple times until what is written comes across on camera the way it was meant to. This is all then edited even further to make things even more impactful and entertaining. It is then viewed and approved and only then shown to these “delusional fans.” This is all done knowing what reaction they will get from it. There are people who actually have the job of encouraging these ships. Of finding more ways to profit off of something that somebody else is in charge of disproving to fans by calling it unintentional. It is an industry, a business, nothing is unintentional. That is queerbaiting.
Challenge: Just change one thing. One characters gender, thats all.
Go ahead and give it a try. Im honestly curious as to the outcome.
Also add some ships that you think apply in the tags!!

My friend asked me to send you this ask before they follow you, because they want to be safe, and want A Post with the answer. What's your stance on proshipping/profiction/etc.
fuck. alright. i knew this day would come. here's my stance.
i choose not to align myself or identify with either pro- or antiship labels. i find the debate to be really tedious and blown out of proportion. i also don't want to be involved with any arguments, and i don't mind if you're pro or antiship. i follow people who identify with both, and people of both persuasions follow me.
however, i do believe in "live and let live", and in my mind that also extends to people who enjoy "distasteful"/"unethical" ships. fiction is fiction, and fiction (and shipping fictional characters) can be a healthy and safe way to explore themes, emotions, and interests that may be harmful irl. i read american psycho and loved it and that was the initial spark for this opinion - american psycho is fucked up. it's horrible. i would never enjoy a story like that if it was real. but it's not real, it's fiction, and it's well-written and fun to read and the feeling of powerlessness to stop this grotesque horror going on in the pages is something i really enjoy. that's what people get from fiction: a chance to explore something otherwise impossible.
i don't have a problem with rpf, as long as your enjoying of a ship does not actually harm the people involved, and you don't extend your shipping to assuming that your favorite celebrities are together irl or bashing their actual partners. that does cause harm, when you assume that your *fictional* ship of real people is actually *real*. i have both created and consumed rpf content, and i personally treat those ships the same as i would any other ship: the people involved are fictionalized characters, not the actual people themselves, and i don't purport that those rpf ships are real or possible.
important caveat: fiction can and does affect reality. the media we consume has a profound impact on the way we view the world. but it's not up to the internet to determine what's healthy or harmful for an individual person; that's up to the individual. if you or the people around you observe that you get really violent or aggressive after playing video games or watching violent movies, maybe you should take a step back and examine why that's happening. maybe take a break.******
therefore, i am in favor of letting people ship whatever they want. i do not engage with incest, underage, or noncon content, and you will not find it on my blog. i don't think it's generally appropriate to share that kind of content with people who are uncomfortable with it, and i think it's perfectly fair to block and not engage with anyone who doesn't share your views. i will sometimes block blogs that share that sort of content, not because i hate them as people, but because i dont vibe with it. but if you do enjoy that content, and you find that it doesn't impact your worldview or actions in a harmful way, then i absolutely won't stop you. ship and let ship.
okay there you go. i do not identify with either proship or antiship. i don't vibe with most proship content, but i do think it should be allowed to exist. fiction can have an impact on people, in both positive and negative ways, but it is by definition not itself real. it's up to individual people to determine what's appropriate for themselves, and i don't believe it's appropriate or necessary to police what others ship or enjoy. an attempt to wipe proship content from the internet is a rabbithole that can quickly lead to bad places (blocking of queer content, restriction of sexual content in general, and eventually restriction of educational materials for minors, for example. we're seeing this with the KOSA bill in the usa).
it's up to you to curate your experience. as our fujoshi foremothers would say: dead dove, do not eat. don't like, don't read.
*****THIS IS NOT AN ATTEMPT TO SPREAD THE MYTH THAT VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE OR ANYTHING RELATED TO THAT. studies have shown that in general, violent media does not directly spark violence. HOWEVER, on an individual basis, violent content HAS been observed to impact the actions of some people. just because it does not on average cause measurable difference, does not mean that it cannot affect some people's actions and perceptions. it is purely an individual phenomenon.
p.s. just to be clear: i do not reblog explicit sexual content. if you're antiship, you will probably not find much objectionable ship content on my blog anyway. i also don't really engage with rpf content at this point, and i don't think you'll find any here. regardless of your stance, my blog is a fairly neutral zone. just please don't police what others choose to engage with online.
#toasty talks#thanks for the ask. i was hoping i'd never have to address this but it's probably a good thing it's out there.#sorry this was so long lol. waughh#hopefully i don't lose a million followers. i feel like that one post#17 year old on the night before their birthday at 11:59: adults dni (wipes out half their followers)#*turns 18*: minors dni (the other half of their followers are gone. they are alone at last)#shipping

Merlin BBC UK TV Show - Opinion Piece Part 09 - The Little Mermaid v/s Merlin
Thank you all for to the wonderful response I received on my post here :
The same friend and I ended up discussing the show in even greater detail.
Whilst my friend was more receptive to the "progressive sub-text" within the show his major issue was what he called a fairy tale treatment of a gritty story.
I retorted that fairy tales have universal appeal and often contain in them morals and lessons which lend to a more complex narrative upon further inspection.
As our talks went on, I could not help but find narrative overlaps between the 2008 Merlin TV Series and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid fairy tale published during 1830's.
So I felt that it could become a Tumblr post.
PLEASE DONT CONFUSE THIS WITH THE DISNEY ANIMATED AND LIVE ACTION FILMS !!!!
Here is my attempt to outline the similarities between our protagonists and the themes.
Raised by single parents
Merlin was raised by Hunith whereas the Mermaid was raised by
the Sea King.
They both feel alienated
The Mermaid feels alone while living in the ocean forever trying to
connect with the world around her.
Merlin also feels like he didn’t belong in the village he lived in.
They both leave their childhood homes
Merlin leaves Ealdor and goes to Camelot whereas the Mermaid
leaves the underwater sea and goes to the Prince's kingdom
They end up saving the life of their soul-mate upon their initial interaction
Merlin saves Arthur's life in Season 1 Episode 1 whereas the
Mermaid saves the Prince from drowning when his ship catches
fire.
They have longer life span than their soul-mate
Merlin is an immortal whereas Arthur's death has been foretold.
The Mermaid is told by her grandmother that she could live for
300 years whereas humans live for a shorter time.
Their soul-mate is unaware of their true identity
Arthur is unaware of Merlin's magic till the very last episode
similarly the Prince is unaware of the Mermaid's identity.
They give up their identity for their soul-mate
Merlin despite being a powerful sorcerer becomes Arthur's servant
whereas the Mermaid gives up being a princess and becomes
human.
They prioritize their soul-mate ahead of themselves
Merlin convinces Arthur not to legalize magic as he thinks this
will save Arthur's life, even though his own circumstances would
change for the better.
The Mermaid does not kill the prince even though it would save her
own life in the end.
The story ends in death.
Arthur dies in Merlin's arms.
The Mermaid dies heartbroken with her body turning to foam.
Queer themes
I have already outlined magic being a methaphor in my post here:
The Little Mermaid's queer themes can be read in the article here:
Silence as a theme of repression
The Mermaid is literally silenced by the Sea Witch in order to fit into heterosexual human society.
Merlin chooses to remain silent despite seeing the injustice and persecution of queer magical creatures around him. If Merlin had expressed himself he would be arrested or even put to death.
Sea Witch and Morgana
The Sea Witch is an antagonist in the The Little Mermaid and Morgana is the chief antagonist in the Merlin series.
In popular mythology there was a Sea Witch named Morgana who was a main contributor in luring sailors to their deaths.
I thought this was a remarkable coincidence when researching this topic

🏳️🌈🧡💀 for the last one you must choose someone who has not canonically died... narrowing it down but not by much heheh
🏳️🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn't seem queer to you?
ouhggg i dont know if i can come up with another one besides havoc. i dont see that many popular queer headcanons outside the main cast and the mustang adjacents..... hits a random character with the cishet beam i guess. den the dog is now HETEROSEXUAL
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
nothing HUGE is coming to mind instantly, but one time i saw someone interpreting the final scene in the manga with hohenheim and trisha as their "ghosts" actually being in resembool and watching over it. which theres no direct evidence AGAINST in the scene but personally i feel like that would be in severe contradiction with the whole message of "the dead can never return to the living, they arent here anymore, you have to accept it and move on". my interpretation has always been that their afterlife beyond the gate took the form of the home they shared, because what they wanted most out of everything in the universe was to just be there together. if ghosts were real in fma world thatd kind of make everything feel pointless
(which, apparently they did in the live action movies with winrys parents. Lol)
💀: If you had to choose one major character to die, who would you choose?
mustang for tje third time

I'm kinda confused/curious about something, we've already established that jikook must be laying low because they'll be enlisting soon and we all know that the Korean government is not LGBTQ+ friendly so jikook don't want to attract any attention to themselves and raise questions about the nature of their relationship. Okay, but aren't taekook's actions lately basically manifesting the same results?
Don't get me wrong, taekook never did and can never do anything that would raise eyebrows like jikook do, their dynamic is very clearly nothing more than friendly and it's a bro/bff type of thing; but that's not how they're perceived by the public.
TK are THE most popular ship in kpop right now, if not the whole world, and everyone including them knows it, ppl who aren't even familiar with BTS or kpop hear the word 'Taekook' and immediately know it's that famous ship from BTS. Even Korean media has been writing articles about them recently calling Jungkook Taehyung's girlfriend and such; and the way that public talks about them is enough to make everyone, especially the ones who are not familiar with their dynamic (such as the government) attentive to them. With that thought in mind, I can't help but think that their actions lately, especially the very obvious/public ones like going to a movie premiere together, are very confusing...
Taehyung especially is being so extra about TK lately, and of course it's because he has nothing to hide or be afraid of bc he knows there's nothing between him and Jungkook like that, but he also knows that that's not how they're perceived by the public. He's making it seem like they're dating actually dating and that confuses me so much because 1) Wouldn't that put them both in an awkward position in the military?? Like that's the whole point of Jikook's laying low strategy, because raising even the smallest doubts can make their military experience hell.
And 2) isn't what Taehyung is doing basically queer-baiting?? He's making himself out to be a gay man in a relationship with Jungkook (don't tell me that he isn't doing it because that's exactly what he's been doing lately) when that's not true at all? Like, he knows that ppl think he's (or want him to be) dating JK and he's actually entertaining those assumptions/expectations. That's the textbook definition of queer-baiting.
I'm just so confused by this whole situation and I need other people's thoughts on this. What's the point of Jikook laying low to not raise suspicions when Taekook (specifically Tae) are being suspicious on purpose when it'll breed the same results with the military?
And please don't tell me it's because unlike Jikook, Taekook are just friends and have nothing to hide, I already know that. But the government isn't familiar with BTS’ inner bonds & dynamics like we are, they can't tell the difference. They'll treat Tae and JK based off what they've heard about them, and what they hear is what everyone is saying; that TK are dating.
(i've sent this to other blogs because i want to hear different opinions)
One word: perception.
Just like to you and me, it dont matter what V is doing or not doing, when you look at Taekook you see two friends. Think about how Taekook look like when they're hanging out and how Jikook look like when they're hanging out.
Those are 2 completely different vibes. Anybody watching them can clearly tell Jikook are the couple. And Karmy have cultural context on their side so Jikook to them are even louder.
It's all about perception. How are the two duos being perceived when they're together? What do people see when they look at them?
Perception

Queer Media, you should check out!!!
Hello everyone. As everyone knows, it is pride month! To celebrate pride, I made a post on queer media you should check out. I hope you guys like it
Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
This manga has a live-action movie and an anime adaptation. I personally only saw the movie and the anime. There are some differences, but both are good regardless. The anime got me in a chokehold, and I've been fixated on this for a few days now.
If you don't know about Cherry Magic! It is a story about Kiyoshi Adachi, a virgin who suddenly gains the power to read people's minds by touching them when he turns thirty. Through this power, he was able to recognize the feelings of his colleague, Yuuichi Kurosawa. Will he be able to return his feelings back or not? Watch it to find out hehehe. There is also Adachi's friend, Tsuge, who is also in a similar situation and finds Tsuge and Minato really cute together.
Overall, this was really good, and I keep rewatching over and over again.
The Owl House
Unlike Cherry Magic, this show focuses more on the lore than the romance in the show but it is good to point out that there are a lot of LGBTQ+ characters on The Owl House. The main character is canonically bisexual and there are other characters that are lesbian, pansexual, non-binary and etc. It is a phenomenal show and you should give it a watch!
If you have never heard of The Owl House, it is a show that focuses on Luz, a 14-year-old human discovering a whole new magical realm called the Boiling Isles and wishing to become a wizard. It is a show filled with beautiful storytelling and amazing world-building. Overall, it was an amazing show, and I can not explain how much this show means to me and how incredible this is.
Yuri on Ice!!!
This anime is not a BL but we can't deny that Yuri and Viktor are inlove with each other. (quick spoiler ahead!) THEY LITERALLY KISSED (Spoiler ends here DUXGUXGDH)
If you dont know about Yuri on Ice!!!, it is a series about Yuri Katsuki, a pro figure skater who was about to retire but meets Viktor and Yurio, who brings his back his love to compete in figure skating. I love this series. It gave me all the feels. It's such a good series, and you should check it out!
Heartstopper
Here is another piece of media that isn't animated. It is a live action series on Netflix based on the Webtoon with the same name. It follows Charlie and Nick and centers around their school life and young love.
I love Heartstopper soo much and it has a special place in my heart. I'm not the biggest fan of live action series or movies but this is one of the few exceptions. It is filled with wholesome moments and moments where you want to scream or want to cry. Overall, it is a good series to binge on and you should definitely give it a try.
Well, that's all for today, folks! I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed making this. Happy pride, everyone!

laughing crying throwing up over your live blogging of American psycho holy shit 😭 I have to call Patrick Patty from now on that's. Classic. Also yeah that movie is truly unhinged. The prevailing theory is that it's about how rich white men are often isolated but have the privilege of low acting so they can (and do) get away with murder but also the flipside of that is that these men do not get the help they may need if they're suffering from mental or physical illness like Patrick (because he is clearly severely mentally ill and a repressed fag lol). He isn't a good person, that's not the point of the movie but he does need help and he's unable to get it both because he doesn't know how to ask for help and is repressing his feelings, and because of the cultural taboo around him asking for help. He's doing what is expected of him: dating/fucking women, going to nice restaurants with his buddies, showing a surface level understanding of politics. But under that is a deeply fucked up guy who is probably into men but is unable to explore those feelings. Idk. There are better worded analyses out there but I'm just glad you enjoyed it!
this is a good analysis!! yeah i can definitely see a queer reading honestly. i think you could definitely say that the hypersexuality of him constantly having sex with woman and seemingly getting nothing out of it is a form of overcompensation, or like, trying to prove to himself that he is straight.
all his political views that he mentioned, seemed to just be buzz words. like i hate the idea of "virtue signalling" but, my understanding of the phrase makes it seem that thats what he was doing, just trying to make it seem like he had all the right political beliefs, when really it was shallow. that was interesting.
also, due to the nature of it being . id say first person. obviously we dont see directly through pats eyes but we do hear all of his thoughts and only see his actions (which i think is what makes something first person in a film perspective? unless thats just third person with a limited narrator? idk all the film terminology). anyway due to us only seeing pattys side of everything. we get this idea that all the men around him are fulfilled. they appear to be doing all the same daily work activities as him, but unlike him, they seem to be enjoying it, further isolating bateman. you could probably take a marxist reading of this, study batemans actions through like, the theory of alienation maybe?
i unfortunately dont know too much about the marx's theory of alienation, but it did seem as if patrick was very isolated and had no real substance in his life, leading to a degradation of the self and then a loss of empathy? leading him to kill to just, find some semblance of humanity? unless it states earlier in the movie that he's lacked emotions since he was a child. anyway maybe a marxist reading but definitely an anti-capitalist reading this movie is chockers full of anti-capitalist messages. dorsia as an unachievable goal, the godot theyre waiting for or the green light theyre chasing could be like, personal fulfillment in a capitalistic society, like how theyre always pressing for the next level, trying to gain more money for really no reason? idk . idk why i mentioned godot that probably doesnt have many textual links other than the one i mentioned and even that is weak, but theres probably some good links to be made between this and gatsby? not sure, i didnt pay too much attention to it .
anyway. this analysis is like. really weak. its late and my brain is off LOL im sorry its so messy. this is a great exam piece though

(So. I'm going to preface this by saying I'm a Gen Z queer kid who doesn't know what it was like to be LGBTQ in the earlier days of our fight for equality, and I don't know what it was like to have the ONLY queer representation onscreen be queer-coded villains. This post is not to be taken too seriously. It was just a silly thought that popped into my head, so I wanted to share a lighthearted rant about it. Please don't murder me okay thanks)
Sometimes life gives you lemons, and sometimes it hits you with the Disney Villains hyperfixation. Again.
This post isn't going to be about how much I am a fUCKING SIMP because I do NOT have the balls to talk about the shit that runs through my head when I'm just casually in love with fictional Bad People™️
Instead, it's just about me diving through various rabbit holes and learning about the queer community's complicated relationship with Disney Villains. I learned what the Hays Code was, and how it was the origin of the queer-coded villain trope. Good guys weren't allowed to be gay. And even though the Hays Code eventually just kinda died for the most part, the trope stuck around.
But even though the trope was designed to frame queer people as untrustworthy, perverse, and strange, a lot of LGBTQ folks really, REALLY love these diabolical characters, myself included-- although I wasn't around when the queer community first "claimed" the villains as our own, so to speak. I actually watched a really interesting video essay on the subject that I'll link to below! A lot of it boiled down to a sense of relatability to these characters-- these villains want to take charge of their lives, and are more often than not outcasts in some respects. So, really, it becomes easy to see the appeal of these extremely self-confident and unapologetically different characters.
But again. Queer-coded villains come with a lot of historical baggage. Thus, when the live-action remakes started coming out, the villains lost most of the queer-coding they had.
But that gave them the new problem. They are FUCKING BORING. LOOK I HAD TO SAY IT. These bitches do NOT have much personality to them. I'd give an example of a Disney live-action remake villain to prove this point, but uh I'm. Kinda boycotting Disney right now, and these movies. I cannot remember these movies enough to tell you anything about them.
BUT ANYWAY. I realized that kind of leaves queer audiences between a rock and a hard place: either have a queer-coded villain whose trope was literally made to villainize queer people, orrrr have a villain whose personality is so bland that you might as well replace them with a sapient cup of tap water and still have the same impact.
And thus, I propose a solution to this dilemma!
Yes, queer-code the villains (DONT LEAVE YET IM GETTING SOMEWHERE). Make them just as delightfully overdramatic as villains like Maleficent or Jafar. Give them that limp wrist. GIVE THOSE MALE VILLAINS PERFECT EYELINER.
But if you're going to queer-code the villain? Then queer-code the hero, too. Show that queerness is not intrinsically tied to morality of any kind, it's just a part of who some people are. Make those heroes flamboyant. Give them that drag queen gait. If you're feeling froggy, lesbian-code the hero's mom or something! Make her be older and unmarried and give her that deeper voice and then show how fucking awesome of a mother she is to the hero. Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave (or cryogenic pod depending on who you ask /j), and I think that would be truly beautiful.
So. Yeah. That about covers it. Okay everyone go home and drink water. :)
EDIT: HAHAHAHA I DEFINITELY DIDNT FORGET ABOUT THE LINK TO THE VIDEO OR ANYTHING

By all means ignore this if you'd rather not talk ab the show, but what exactly makes the loki series bad? Genq bc I'm kinda on the fence about it
dont worry i am ALWAYS happy to talk about why the show sucks . sorry this will be very long
basically it boils down to two things: straight up transphobia towards gfluid people , and character assasination . andddd the rest under the cut cause i tend to ramble ab this .
so, for a while now its been canon in marvel comics that loki is genderfluid. fans obviously were calling for this to be acknowledged for a while, actor seemed on board (still seemed on board . gonna be real w u hes the only member i dont blame he didnt seem particularly pleased about a lot of choices), blah blah . so obviously the producer gets asked and the dick michael waldron says yep ! yessir we have rep .
the rep in question was splitting the character into a male and female version, giving no indication towards any genderfluidity whatsoever (having all the 'male' variants be shocked that theres a female one like wtf), and then pulling some good old selfcest between the two at the end to really seal the deal . the bi representation that was also promised was a one off easily missable line but thats a whole other can of worms . it got worse after the show, whenever prompted about it people involved would say very weird shit. kate herron tried to pull the cis queer card a few times if im recalling correctly. dont even get me started on sophia di martino .
second problem, characterisation. at that point in the timeline we have loki straight out of avengers . which means you either have evil and a bit crazy loki or you have an opportunity to confirm the popular fan theory of mind control . neither happened , instead i think they were trying to speedrun his ragnarok/infinity war character development, fucked it up spectacularly and rather than making him a more morally grey but still a little bit yknow, loki, made him like...really wimpy for some reason? a lot of his actions were extremely out of character . theres a lot of focus on him being full of himself (hence the selfcest), which is kinda fundementally misunderstanding him as a character . the self obsession is a front which is obvious to anyone who watched even half of thor 1 . yknow, the very first movie hes in . side note michael waldron said he didnt watch thor 1 ? i cant tell if he was joking or not but on god it did not seem like he was from the show.
also more related to comics synergy, just sylvie as a character . they mashed up loki while fem presenting (why.), amora, and sylvie lushton when they couldve just had amora for a romance plot ??? sylvie lushton also fucking sucked like the comics community generally has a low opinion of her . her ass is homophobic and annoying and an amora knockoff . you could really see the inspiration shine through .
honestly the agent of asgard run is a very good example of how the variant concept can be handled well, and without blatant transphobia . honestly they shouldve gotten al ewing to write the whole thing hes the only person i trust to write loki .
so yeah sorry for the very long paragraph 😭😭😭 this show just drives me up the wall SO BAD
#asks#calicocoffee101#also no one rb please i never want to be involved in this discourse ever again

★ Do I like this episode? Why or why not?
YES. obviously im biased but i think its also a classic episode of south park. its ridiculous, its got that early sp vibe, and it has one of those live action bits…. did i mention kyle is diabetic… anyway definitely one of my favorites easily top ten
★ Favorite moment?
OUGH.. either when stan is talking to the doctor trying to give him his kidney OR at the end when he says “dud youre my best friend i dont want you to die until i do..” WAAHH…
★ Least favorite moment?
when sharon tells sheila about miss information… no sheila dont listen to her
★ Do I have an unpopular opinion about this episode? What is it?
disclaimer: i have no idea about the backstory or what research m&t did for this ep, if any lmao. BUT for what it is it was done pretty well? kidney failure is one of the more common complications of diabetes so. whether it was intended or not i was actually kind of impressed when i watched it
★ Something I would change?
less garrison b plot maybe? it kinda got old kinda quick but tbh the episode as a whole still slays
★ Rating out of 5?
4.5/5
★ Anything else I want to say about this episode?
obviously the rep, no matter how minimal is special to me… but i also think its a good satire of the way (white) people appropriate indigenous/other cultures without understanding or listening to people of that culture, and also the way some people who think natural medicine will heal anything/everything because by god ive met so many of those people and they are so. UGh. but yeah!
guitar queer-o
★ Do I like this episode? Why or why not?
YES. style cornerstone. i think its another sp classic as one of those movie spoofs. AND its gay
★ Favorite moment?
ughh… when stan and kyle reunite to kick the games ass once and for all!!
★ Least favorite moment?
when kyle comes over to play and hes replaced and stan doesnt do anything 😭
★ Do I have an unpopular opinion about this episode? What is it?
tbh i think follow that egg! is a better style centric episode than this one (I STILL LOVE GUITAR QUEER-O THO..)
★ Something I would change?
yes they should have kissed at the end (/j but not really)
★ Rating out of 5?
5/5
★ Anything else I want to say about this episode?
top five style episodes for sure… maybe even top three.. thank you matt and trey for crumbs

oh god, not the ace discourse on my feed in the year 2023...
no one deserved the level of hate that ace folks in that era got on here. no one deserves death threats, endless harassment, doxxing, and all manner of other awful awful actions against them simply for existing in a way thats different from others. it was disgusting to see back then and it still is to this day.
i do still find it endlessly frustrating and disrespectful though to see so many ace folk and allies consistently push this narrative that those who are ace are inherently queer/LGBT and that the queer folk who tried to correct that belief are actually horrible monstrous bigots who all violently attacked ace people. this isnt true and never was true, even admitted in the replies to this very post where ppl point out a lot of people doing that were also transphobic/homophobic in ways. a lot of ace people at that time refused to understand that the LGBT community and the very acronym itself, were not some open subculture or general group of societal "outcasts" like punks or goths that you could simply just declare you were a part of because you wanted to be. whether ace people want to accept it or not, being asexual is not an inherently queer thing. a LACK of sexual ATTRACTION is not in the same category as queer romantic/sexual attraction or even more so an experience of gender dysphoria of some kind. you can be asexual while also being cishet. where is the queerness there? if you are ace and trans or ace and homoromantic, you ARE queer, but not because of your asexuality. you are valid and real if you are asexual and NO ONE has the power or right to say you are faking it or attack you for it or any of the toxic shit that DID eventually happen, but a lot of people have ignored the fact that ace people essentially threw a fit about not being seen as LGBT until they victimized themselves enough to just be haphazardly lumped in with a community that was at the forefront of civil rights for marginalized identities. which, in my opinion, has done A LOT of damage to the progress the queer community was trying to make at the time. it is not solely on the shoulders of ace people, im not saying that at all, but it did play a factor in my opinion.
a lot of people dont seem to understand that the fights for queer rights, the establishing of marginalized communities, and the defense of othered peoples is an incredibly complex and complicated issue with a lot of nuance, grey area, and definitely mistakes to be made that are a core part of the discussion. let me tell you, as an ANCIENT tumblrite, this website was NOT a place for nuanced discussion in 2014-2017 and it frankly barely is now. when i was in my late teens and early 20s, the entire world was black and white and you were either on the side of good people or you were an evil monster and my part of the ace discourse was the first time i was seen as some evil person by what i thought was *my* community as a lesbian trans woman. it very much opened my eyes to the fact that things are not simple, these discussions are not good vs evil, reality isnt a movie or a comic book. but we were all kids or young stupid adults and most of us were growing up in a time period where it was becoming okay to simply exist as we were. the LGBT community was sort of a beacon for that and so EVERYONE tried to jump in the pool not realising it wasnt built for that.
at the end of that whole time period, i and plenty of other people like me were labelled monstrous acephobes and it was very disheartening to see when our only real message was that ace people dont belong in *this* community, not that they dont deserve one at all or more generally to exist. i love my ace friends and most of them agree with me outright, but its still something argued and fought over today with the same lack of nuance i saw back then. human beings dont like to be told they dont belong somewhere because were told the general idea of not belonging somewhere is inherently bad when it isnt. sometimes, things arent made or created for everyone and that is perfectly okay. its why communities and beliefs are built everyday; not everything is a perfect match for who you are or what you stand for. it is okay to accept that without either side making the other out to be a villain.
I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17
It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.
All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.
#why in gods name am i even writing all this right now#i know exactly what kind of response this will get if its even seen by anyone on my dead ass blog#its been close to a decade since ive addressed any of this on here so ig its just nice to get off my chest idk#if your takeaway from this is that i hate ace people then i genuinely dont know what to say other than i am sorry for you
