Hey, are you still bitter about the treatment Thingol gets in the fandom? Because I am, even if it's 2023. The fact that people have such visceral reactions and threw a huge hissy fit in response to Thingol banning Quenya as if his banning is equivalent to a mass slaughter when said mass slaughterers are claiming lands in Beleriand and mocks Thingol's kingship is funny to me. And the fact that people mock and shit on Thingol for being pissed at the kinslaying at Aqualonde because he wasn't even there, like hello? That's his brother's people tf? Who wouldn't be pissed when you find out your brother's family legit got slaughtered? He has flaws but like so do many characters in silm, yet he gets so much hate and is never written with justice because he's against the noldor/feanorians.

Am I still bitter about [X]? yes. The answer is always yes.

People's attitudes towards Thingol in this fandom are a perfect illustration of character-centric morality: the things the Feanorians do are excusable because they're liked, and anything Thingol does is worthy of scorn because he is not liked. That's how you get people acting like the Quenya ban is on par with literal mass murder (and no, I don't think his asking for a massive number of foreign troops coming into the area to show him respect as the local ruler, as a display of good faith if nothing else, was unreasonable).

Look, I get why Thingol is not a big fan favorite. He suffers from "show not tell" where although Tolkien tells us he was a wise and beloved king, most of what we're shown in detail are things he fucked up. He also plays the King Triton role with Beren and Luthien, and no one likes a guy who stands in the way of ~true love~. Additionally, some of his most likeable moments come in Children of Hurin, which is, of course, not a part of the core Silmarillion. We get a lot less detail in Silm about Turin's time in Doriath, which is when we see a lot more of Thingol in CoH and where we see his attitude on mortals make a complete 180 (he is in fact the only Elf lord to ever foster a Man). But even within Silm, it's rarely acknowledged that in the end, he does support Beren and Luthien's marriage.

"And it seemed to Thingol that this Man was unlike all other mortal Men, and among the great in Arda, and the love of Luthien a thing new and strange; and he perceived that their doom might not be withstood by any power of the world. Therefore at last he yielded his will, and Beren took the hand of Luthien before the throne of her father."

He seats Beren at his left hand--it's hard to overstate the significance of that.

"Then Thingol's mood was softened; and Beren sat before his throne upon the left, and Luthien upon the right, and they told the tale of the Quest..."

I think it is relevant to remember that in accepting Luthien's marriage to Beren, Thingol is necessarily accepting her death--the death of his only child, whom he holds dearer than all the land and wealth of Doriath. That doesn't make his actions in B&L right, but I think it makes them understandable.

Later, when the forces of Doriath go to hunt Carcaroth, Beren and Thingol hunt together.

"...Huan leaped from the thicket upon the back of the Wolf, and they fell together fighting bitterly; and no battle of wolf and hound has been like to it, for in the baying of Huan was heard the voice of the horns of Orome and the wrath of the Valar, but in the howls of Carcaroth was the hate of Morgoth and malice crueller than teeth of steel...There they fought to the death; but Thingol gave no heed, for he knelt beside Beren, seeing that he was sorely hurt." (Emphasis added)

But also, simply because he repeatedly comes into conflict with the sons of Feanor, he was doomed to be recast as a villain by the fandom because the sons are so popular that anyone who dislikes them is going to get shafted by the fandom. Hating on Thingol is so accepted in this fandom people don't even seem to regard it as character bashing to come onto posts or fics about Thingol and share how much they don't like him/think he's an asshole/whatever.

I really don't think there is an overreaction to hearing about unprovoked mass murder. I really think most of us would react very badly to finding out that someone we'd had dealings with had slaughtered a bunch of people, whether or not we were related to the victims. It's been said before but I'll drag it out again: Thingol had to do something. As king, he did not have the option of not reacting to that--that it happened, or that the Noldor tried to conceal it. The Quenya ban was arguably a mid-level response (Furthermore, it was a pretty deft display of Thingol's soft power--Maedhros scoffs at his claim to be king of Beleriand, yet look how instantly and totally the Sindar adhere to this directive. With this one move, Thingol displays for the Noldor how far his power reaches. If they were thinking about armed conflict with Thingol and Doriath, they now know how many of the Elves of Beleriand they would have to deal with.) It's not like Fingolfin was going to turn his people over for a trial, and accept whatever punishment Doriath's court ruled on, not least because Fingon himself was a significant part of the Kinslaying at Alqualonde. The Noldor, hand their crown prince over to a foreign justice system? Not gonna happen.

Long story short: I like Thingol, flaws included, and it's kind of laughable that of all the characters in the book, THIS is the one people find irredeemable.

Alright, allow me a word or two on this whole HARRY CROSBY weekend in Oxford situation. This is probably redundant in this wonderful fandom but I think many of us were bracing a little during it and I have thoughts….

1. Harry Crosby had a delightful way in his book of mentioning in the most admiring terms the different women he encountered while posted overseas, among them Subaltern Wingate. This ought to be less of an anomaly in the world than it is but yet, it’s remarkable all the same. Particularly during such a time period and it ought to be taken in the tone in which it seems to have been relayed. Now, that can be hard to transfer to the screen as audiences are often wired to see man+woman=sexual tension of any sort, that’s unfortunate but there it is. Add producer and the writer’s interpretation of it as well and you’ve got something even more skewed. And then, well, it’s wartime, it’s grief, it’s roommates, understanding and isolation from loved ones -and Anthony Boyle’s perpetual bedroom eyes as well -so it had me on edge at times about where the tone was gonna go. Altogether i am not mad or faulting anyone, I liked that nothing was suggested, what happened is what we saw. And I liked what we saw. You can read endless accounts of how wartime can feel a bit surreal sometimes and you’re given these pockets of moments with strangers that are sometimes more impactful than a lifetime with familiars -and I honestly think they caught that vibe well.

2. Now I’m getting analytical and probably making excuses for my fail of a kicked puppy husband who loves his wife but, hear me out:

:Croz’s time in Oxford starts with him delightedly reading the newest letter from his wife. that emotion remains until he reaches the end of the letter and her usual sign off, “say hi to Bubbles for me” -we see he’s promptly shattered and the letter is discarded. As is Jean and thoughts of her for the rest of the weekend. Writing back his beloved wife will require telling her of Payne’s death and in his recounting of stories to Alex. Westgate, there’s a very present tense to his reminiscence of Bubbles, which suggests that he has not fully processed it himself. Writing Jean back would be the finality he doesn’t want to except. So instead he has a new friend who gives him a reprieve, someone he can tell stories to without the shared history and grief that Jean will carry alongside him. Their histories are all too tangled. I see it as a sort of escaping mechanism, perhaps you could stretch it all the way into emotional infidelity as far as the show goes, but I think it’s less of indifference towards his wife and rather trying to put off the inevitable of hurting her and himself by writing that news. By the end of the episode he’s come back to earth, into reality, with a cold hard thump, having to get on with things. Legit telling jokes about death.

I think it’s interesting how they framed the episode in that way, and it’s perhaps an insight into what he psychologically was going through. anyway, I won’t be hanging out the “welcome home cheater” banner. 😭😆

Do you know "Eggnoid"? It's a rather old webtoon about a girl being put into circumstances on taking care of a robot guy who hatched from an egg (hence the title) the robot guy appears to be a grown man, but he has mental capabilities of a toddler and even acts like one. So, it's like those types of "born sexy yesterday" tropes but the gender reversed. The girl also repeatedly shown crushing over the robot guy and at some point, she called him her boyfriend despite she's supposed to be his caretaker.

I haven't read it, but I can definitely attest that there's a double standard when it comes to gender roles and age gaps / situations of grooming / etc. in literature but especially in webtoons. And by that I mean I've legit seen people hold comics like Lore Olympus accountable for their gross dynamics between a young teenage girl and the much older and richer love interest, but then turn around and say it's "couple goals" for a teenage boy to hook up with a much older woman. At the end of the day there's still a power imbalance due to the age gap and the massive differences in life experiences between the two, gender doesn't really change that.

Big ole' sip of hot tea as a take, but speaking as an AFAB, a lot of women are just as capable of grooming and taking advantage of younger men in the same way as men towards young women, it's just that on the surface people tend to get skittish about addressing that because they don't want to sound like they're going "yeah well actually women though-" and dismissing the notion of toxic masculinity. Which yes, that's a fair thing to worry about, some people do use that as a way to dismiss the arguments made regarding patterns of grooming behavior in men towards young girls (among many other problems in which men and toxic masculinity are held accountable), but like any topic of this nature, it's not always a cut and dry black and white thing. Toxic masculinity and the grooming of teenage girls by adult men is a very real problem! But just like how we can understand the nuance that being a man by default doesn't immediately make you a predator, we should be able to understand the nuance that being a woman doesn't give you a free pass to do the same things we call out men for doing without consequences. It's like the double standard in LO that it's okay for Persephone to do the same things - if not worse - than what Leuce and Minthe and Thetis do, because she's the main character and she's not some scummy "mud-sucking" lower class person, she's rich and a Queen and she's wearing a giant hat so it makes it okay /s

Unfortunately the saying of "I support women's rights and women's wrongs" is being used in a completely tone deaf "literally excusing the main character of her crimes and wrongdoings against others because she happens to be a woman" kind of way, while missing the real point of the saying - supporting women's wrongs doesn't mean you celebrate their abuse towards others, it just means women shouldn't automatically be viewed as irredeemable "crazy bitches" for making mistakes like any other human does, and like any other human, they should be given the opportunity to grow and heal and learn from their wrongs.

When it comes to Persephone specifically, it can't even be chalked up to a "one time mistake" anymore, she's literally been showing patterns of abusive behavior for years now and refusing to take accountability, and now even Rachel is meme'ing on it knowing fully well it's what people are calling Persephone out for in the critical spaces. That's not "supporting women's wrongs", that's enabling the wrongs of a person because they happen to be a woman, and that's not okay. Persephone isn't a "girl boss", she's a bully.

I think the double standard in these age gap romances also speaks to the idolization and fixation on women as being nothing more than conquests for men as well. People who romanticize age gaps between a young woman and an older man think, "Wow, that woman is so mature for her age, enough that an older richer man would choose HER to be his wife! So romantic!" when in reality those who know those dynamics are unhealthy and toxic recognize it as an older man taking advantage of a young woman who's being love-bombed into believing she's "mature for her age" so that she'll sleep with him. Meanwhile, on the other side of it, those who romanticize young men getting with older women tend to come at it from the angle of "well she's so old and washed up, no man could ever love her, her chance for love and a happily ever after is gone now! it's so wonderful of that young man to give that sad and lonely old woman love and attention!" and yet fail to see it from the same perspective of an older person manipulating a young person with zero life experience, because there's still this deeply-rooted ideology that women are "used up" by age 30 and any man who gives her attention beyond that age range is a hero. Completely neglecting the fact that relationships aren't off the table at all for older single people and they don't need to involve robbing the cradle.

I blame the lack of older couple representation in media tbh, so many mainstream romance stories are basically just this:

To pull it out of the perspective of LO and webtoons for a second (sorry, I'm going on a hell of a tangent here), remember how gross it was when it was revealed in Fifty Shades Darker that Christian had been introduced to the concept of BDSM at age 15 through one of his mom's friends (i.e. an older woman!) who Anastasia calls "Mrs. Robinson"? And they had that relationship until he was 21? And they never really did anything about that, it was pretty much just there to explain why Christian was fucked up but he still got married to Anastasia, an innocent woman who he was repeating the cycle of abuse with, and lived happily ever after anyways?

I mean, I do get it! Buck is all of those things! He’s loving and forgiving and selfless and caring and will do anything for the people he loves and even complete strangers! That’s what makes him so great!

But I also think Buck can be a little self-centered! 

I don’t mean it in an egotistical, I’m the most important person at the party kind of way, but he often believes he’s the problem in situations that aren’t even about him—and it makes sense why he thinks that! For the first thirty-ish years of his life, there was this big looming secret in his family that he was unknowingly at the center of. He felt like the “problem” because he was, and there was nothing he could do to fix that. But that experience leads to him approaching all conflicts from a self-centered place, in that he is the problem and he needs to fix it.

He’s also a guy with big emotions who feels them very deeply, which builds on that fix it tendency, and then whatever he’s feeling gives him a sort of tunnel vision until someone knocks him out of it.

But that’s not to say that Eddie’s any better! Eddie also gets into “fix it” mode, but when he fixes a problem he largely represses his own feelings about it (or sees his feelings as the problem to fix by repressing them), often to the point of hurting himself and the people around him. 

It’s part of why they work so well together. Eddie helps Buck take a step back from his emotions and see the bigger picture, like when Maddie left and Buck couldn’t see Chimney’s perspective because he was convinced that Maddie was going to be fine. Buck helps Eddie take stock of his own feelings instead of shoving them down and repressing them, like when he pointed out that Eddie ignoring his own feelings was hurting both himself and Ana.

And yeah, Eddie absolutely should not have gotten his job back at that time. Bobby was fully in the right to tell him to see someone. But he and Buck also responded to the situations very differently. 

Eddie initially blew up (an uncharacteristically short temper is a common symptom among combat vets with PTSD) and then apologized and accepted that he needed to talk to someone about it, and he took the time to recover before going back to the 118. 

Buck was more of a slow burn; he didn’t blow up but he was incredibly hurt and betrayed, and he chose to keep pushing past several off ramps because he had that emotional tunnel vision telling him that getting his job back would fix things the fastest.

I think if you just look at what happened to Edelgard, she really is a tragic character. Like, a legit tragic villain.

It all comes down to, well, you remember how the Plinkett reviews of the Prequels used to be a big thing? One of the criticisms was that Anakin wasn't seduced to the dark side, he became evil because he was tricked. And, well, look at Edelgard's story. She was taken away from her family due to an Insurrection that may or may not have been the work of TWSITD, she lives for three years in hiding only for her uncle to be pod-personed, she is then taken home only to be experimented on. She watches her siblings go insane and later be killed, all while her father watches helplessly. She feels a connection to that father because of it, and her father tells her what is supposedly Fodlan's true history.

But Hubert reveals that her father was a puppet of the group that consists of Kronya and Solon, led by Edelgard's uncle. This version of history comes from the Agarthans. Likewise, in Verdant Wind it's said that TWSITD manipulated Edelgard into starting the war. This would align with not only that, but it would also indicate that Edelgard's ideals, the thing she says she started a war in service of, comes from the Agarthans as well. After all, they were informed by the history she was fed. But per the devs, one of the themes of Flower is having a different set of beliefs, but they also said that the worldbuilding was done in support of Silver Snow. It could also be said that with her claims that she prayed to the Goddess, the Agarthans turned Edelgard against her former beliefs as for all we know Edelgard's mother could have been devout like the real Arundel was. Not to mention, ther's also her being given the pressures of being heir to an empire in severe decline.

Edelgard was gaslit, plain and simple. Her views don't reflect actual history or the reality of Fodlan. What's more, she's depicted as deliberately averting her eyes from the things she doesn't want to see, be they the Agarthan influence in the Imperial or the victims her war is causing. The Japanese version of Edge of Dawn, Girl from Hresvelg, also makes it out that Edelgard was reconsidering her path in White Clouds only to then go forward with it. That version would indicate that Edelgard made the decision to do so, but then you look at her history with the experiments, the trauma she suffered and being fed propaganda to lead her to starting a war. A war she feels is the right thing to do because of that propaganda, which would indicate that Edelgard's moral center was realigned by the Agarthans as well, hence why she's the one who believes it's her right to force her beliefs onto the people, make them fight for her and spill as much blood as needed for that glorious future she dreams of.

Now, this isn't an excuse. For decades, people have been trying to argue that being brainwashed should be a legal defense by way of diminished responsibility. This has been rejected both by scientists as well as the US legal system, as there is debate over brainwashing being a real thing and how this would effect the concept of free will in a proceeding. You're basically saying "Edelgard wasn't acting in her right mind, she was made to act like this by the Agarthans therefore they're the ones responsible for her actions." The fact that the game was written with Edelgard as a villain to be stopped ultimately says that, well, she can't go unpunished for her actions (and her victory is meant to be a bad thing, because she's making a world based on the beliefs the hidden villains gave her).

The game still wants you to feel bad for fighting her, it doesn't want her to be written off as just another bad guy. She's an anti-villain who is among the victims of the Agarthans. Flower's reveals are just a means to explain how the cute girl we are initially introduced to is another red emperor under the surface. So it's not like Houses is completely heartless towards her. Her situation is complex, she was still free to act but her understanding of right and wrong was warped on her. For her to not go down this path would be akin to her being evil in her own mind, and her close-mindedness rejected any notion that she was wrong in contrast to Claude. And she is the face of the game to top it off, showing that Houses doesn't have some golden ending where everyone lives. The player has no choice but to either stop her, or help the villains who did this to her achieve the goal they had when they did this all to her. And if Hubert's dad was a Slither himself, they chose her for this when she was only four years old. Of course it's not going to feel good fighting another victim, but the game still treats it as something that needs to be done even if it's a gut punch.

Treehouse not getting the memo is not something I hold against the game, just those assholes.

I've posted quite a few rambles in my #mr delver i wont u... tag but lemme see if i can't post a few more organized hcs...

Childhood

Raymond suffered neglect and emotional/physical abuse at the hands of his mother. Not really clear on the specifics but I know Audrey Delver regretted having him and/or he was an accident.

His father has never been in the picture and Audrey has never talked about him, except to use him as a negative comparison for her son in moments of rage ("You're just like your useless father!" etc)

Raymond spent as much time out of the house as he could, staying over at friends' houses and staying late at school.

He was raised faithful, some sort of protestant, and was a true believer for his entire childhood. Many of his fears at this point in his life were spiritually based and inwardly focused, bordering on religious OCD (what if im sinful and god punishes me, what if god punishes my mom, i need to pray for this or that or disaster will strike, etc)

Raymond's first brush with grief (which he navigated mostly on his own) involved a tragic pet death.

He was a big fan of Superman as a kid, and watched both the animated movies by the fleischers and the adventures of superman TV show from the 50's

College

Raymond was an asshole in college

Definitely an academic type, had a big head, sexist, anger issues

He had a hard time making close friendships, but had a few groups of acquaintances he could move among easily.

Slept around a bit, had a couple legit girlfriends that didn't pan out, and eventually met Maria here

Marriage

He did originally marry Maria with the intent of starting a family with her

Definitely a very rigidly traditional marriage to the point where Maria gave up any career aspirations to stay at home.

As demonic activity became apparent at River Fields, and only ramped up in frequency, Raymond kept putting off having children with increasingly banal excuses

This, combined with his constant need to be at work and out of the house, and his shiftiness around his work secrets, led Maria to believe he was cheating on her (or possibly a necrophile)

Originally, Raymond had a good relationship with Maria's parents and impressed them with his ambition. As their marriage deteriorated, so too did his relationship with his in-laws

Present day

His psychosomatic issues are becoming unmanageable but he is ignoring it he does not see it it's fine

These issues include dissociation, joint pain/inflammation, blurred vision, vertigo, headaches, and muscle tension

On the incredibly rare occasion that he has a moment to himself, Raymond enjoys reading and has tried once or twice to write a book

He doesn't drink anymore but his favorite is whiskey neat

Raymond currently lives in some messy townhouse now, having sold his family home to pay for the mortuary, and having sold the house he bought with Maria to pay for demon hunting supplies/trip to egypt/alimony.

It's better this way, he tells himself. No more going home to houses haunted by bad memories.

Most of his personal growth and progress with managing his emotions came after his divorce. Meeting Mr. Salah was a major catalyst for this change both due to the educational nature of international travel and also because Raymond truly looks up and wants to emulate the man himself.

rambling time:

alright I knew I wanted my percy to be inspired by raggedy Ann dolls specifically the hairstyle and the overalls, I gave him a scarf 🧣 to represent “a scarf for Percy” episode and of course they’re little hat with the sodor mail logo and her mailbag with their whistle and lucky bell as keychains (I forgot to to draw them but say it’s behind her back) 🔔 I was gotta decorate her boots more but I it slipped out my mind and I was originally gotta make them red. Of course they have their pins on their bag a bear pin for “wooly bear” a butterfly 🦋 for aeg (I know I know people still don’t like it please don’t come after me) and their gender-fluid and pan pride pin.

Patrick or Harry was the easiest to be honest like nearly all of my cfr designs was mainly inspired by glowynviator except I added some minor changes like an orange scarf 🧣 his boots and pants color change and design and he got classy pristine gloves and earrings and of course a pompadour which is fitting for his nature (I know it’s looks like wally darling xD that’s the idea 💡)

Andreas I was originally searching up Argentinan fashion for him cause he’s afro Argentinan in my human au cause his basis was sent there but it was formal dress wear so I went with that along with fancy British style cause my Andreas comes from old money an wealthy family and he totally shows off like Gordon he’s also got a cape jacket like him but I couldn’t decide which one cause I did so many of them I’ll post them later and maybe do a poll on it even though knowing me I’ll use all of them haha

(Gordon 🤝 Andreas they r besties they gossip have coffee and Gordon was the first standard guage driver to visit Andreas in the hospital 🏥 after the accident this does apply for Alfred as well but he’s was a prick and he and Andreas got into arguments) and also like Gordon has his own fair share of toxic dysfunctional relationships ridiculously high standards and the pressure to be perfect though unlike Gordon Andreas was originally engaged through an arranged marriage by his family mainly his abuelo which secretly stressed about it for he had no feelings for her and if he was honest never felt attracted towards girls even though he was well liked and known and popular and that his stomach often churns at the thought the same goes with more intimate activities that he doesn’t really wish to have children at least not yet and gosh-

Like y’all  (his main inspiration was Encanto Isabela and her family I guess you can say he’s a genderbent version as despite his own emotions thoughts and fears he was determined to not frightened of disappointing his family and being the golden child and the oldest (he’s meant to be a foil to Gordon and Alfred who are meant to be parallels to one another’s it’s complicated) he’s very grateful he managed to convince his abuelo to let him have the opportunity to work on sodor under the excuse it would be good to have more connections the railway needs assistance and this would be great experience in an effort to put the marriage on hold among o th her things (cause he did fight in the war with his engine but his family mainly his abuelo was too worried of losing him and practically begged him to return back home even giving money 💰 to Andreas superiors and Andreas ends up returning early like less than a few months athough the marriage was cancelled after his family found out after his accident later on still wondering if some of his family members move to sodor which Andreas deliberately put off and revelations are revealed which leads to huge arguments and Andreas is no longer welcomed into the family not officially disowned but it’s was more of a like until he got his act together to him and it stung cause they couldn’t tell it to his face yet at the same so relieve cause he felt like he couldn’t handle so many people in the room overall it’s extremely messy but he still feels thankful that he got a support system on sodor and he got out of a rather toxic and kinda forced heteronormative environment 

Duncan has so many outfits and hairstyles  that I’m drawing out cause my guy goes through the wringer he’s got so much character development going on but I went with one of a more healing style he wearing something’s that’s causal yet comfortable (of course I drew him with a guitar he finds comfort in music and yeah he’s in his pride colors) he’s not pretending to be this overly happy guy in an effort to please others as his way to cope with the situation but ge wrote his red outfit I’m leaning towards boilersuit/jumpsuit (which he ends up burning and throwing away cause well it’s kindave stained while he was doing his hardest to recuse Andreas like he accidentally injured himself in the attempt to free Andreas think suletta and her hands but he was freaking out in full panic not thinking and now every time he looks at it looks st himself his stomach turns to kits he stays seating he’s shaking cause it reminded him so much of what was Andreas when he was recused and how he was almost…killed… BY HIM…he was severely injured and barely alive but still somehow breathing 

First time you see him he’s got a Mohawk, it’s messy but cool looking but to others on a outsiders views he appears not to care about appearance which does rub (mostly Andreas who’s obsessed with making perfect appearances and self-importance) leads to them butting heads a lot like it’s kinda an isa and Mira situation where they’re both envious of one another where Duncan is jealous over how between the two numbers 6’s here it’s appears that a majority of folks prefers Andreas while Andreas even though he’s in an environment where he can express more freedom and won’t be punished for it he still can’t downright be more vocal towards authority (at least till the hours of the incident where he argued with the  supervisor but it was more on the lines of safety and not recklessness)  treatment or say everything on his mind with vulgar languages  and he is a bit impressed on that but wishes Duncan had common sense and not just complain about everything and anything

So yeah they rubbed one another all the wrong ways and Duncan calls him “mister perfect” Andreas retorts to him being a hypocrite yet didn’t hesitate to put his life on the line and recuse him and Duncan just felt excruciating amount of guilt and also reeling from that situation since it’s also traumatic for him like he was right there when Andreas getting crushed and unfortunately the first actually see how bad lead injuries were on Andrea’s and it ran and it wasn’t a pretty sight and I will let you guys fill in the head. It’s but for Duncan, his mental health was taking a toll on him 

A majority of his colleagues (the msr the ones who knew  Andreas was he longest they held him responsible some even  right blaming him (like I wrote that Andreas family were gotta sue him as well as the railway but that was stoped by Andreas but that didn’t do well for Duncan emotionally) for everything others not speaking or or even acknowledging him like he’s existence leave it like glares they’re grieving they’re dealing with this situation and it doesn’t excuse their actions or their treatment of Duncan but it explains it it’s still not right but it’s like all sadnes all around. Even though Duncan has  the support and comfort of the Skr members he still feels like he’s responsible and begins to overwork himself like bag eyes despite his smiling attitude like his hair outgrew the passing couple of months and he’s putting it in a  braid or ponytail he’s wearing less red (I got an idea on his that looks like) yet he neglecting his own health then he comes back after his run in with the scientists where he was knocked unconscious and he’s wearing yellow like he  dyed his hair he subconsciously changes to match Andreas ponytail and a more fitting attire and ugh my heart

Considering the political environment and social stigmas that still exist a cis man would in fact be rejected more often by pretending to be a trans woman, especially since they are not on HRT nor would they put the same care into their appearance, so they would not "pass" and therefore be subject to more negative reception than most trans women would. If they are putting in all the effort to transition, that's not a man, that's a woman, do you think even the most sex starved horndog would uproot their entire life and make themselves a pariah among certain groups, even lose their friends family or employment opportunities to bang a lesbian?

This is an incredibly stupid straw man made by transphobes who do not actually understand what trans people tend to go through. For one, despite the prevalence of lgbtq+ people in spaces like this one, cishet women still greatly outnumber lesbians/bisexuals of any kind and therefore pretending to be trans actually makes it harder to find a potential partner. If this theoretical person is often around lgbt+ people then they are not playing a long con to get into people's pants, it would be way easier to do so outside a group like that, and tbh they are probably within the genderqueer community to some extent which is why they are in that group in the first place.

Only an imaginary "incel" would try something like this, because if their logic leads them to believe the title they give themselves is the reason why others will not fuck them, then they will have no sense of the fact that it's their personality/presentation or other reasons why people avoid them carnally. 9) In your xxx fic, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?

So, backstory (which you can skip to read bolded answer at the end):

It was spring of my 3rd year in engineering school, and the class load was absolutely brutal. Regular xxxHolic updates were among the few things that kept my exhausted depressed brain looking forward to the next week. (thanks to whoever was doing the scanlations on mangafox - i owe you several bottles of scotch) My absolutely lunatic weekday schedule was: 1-6pm: class and lab Dinner w/ my roommates, the only nice thing during the day 8pm - 3am: homework, projects, studying, post-lab work Sleep from 3am - 9am Work until lunch

And then the last chapter of holic came out, and my tired and dramatic ass literally took to my bed and cried. XD I had so many hopes and theories for the series, and I was not in a place for CLAMP's fuckery.

So I was possessed by a strange angry fugue state while writing this fic, fueling me to write it all in 6-8 weeks. And the ONLY way to squeeze in writing time was to borrow against my sleep schedule, so I legit wrote this in 3 hr blocks from 3am - 6am every day, until I finished. Never had that kind of wild inspiration and drive before or since. So what I am trying to say here is, I do not remember writing this fic, and my memory of what it contains is hazy at best. (I do NOT remember writing the sentient shop chapter at ALL. I think that probably manifested from me reading "-And He Built a Crooked House-" by Heinlen the previous month). My actual answer: From what I remember, my favorite scene in the fic that I cherish to pieces is this little exchange here in Chapter 8:

Himawari followed his nod slowly. "Y-es. They've been together for many years." Her eyes twinkled. "You could say they were high-school sweethearts."

"We most certainly were not!" Watanuki protested. Himawari's shoulders were shaking in barely repressed laughter.

"Yes we were," Doumeki said, suddenly poking his annoying face into the room. "You were just too stupid to notice."

"Well excuse me for not picking up on our whirlwind teenage romance," Watanuki shot back.

"It's fine," Doumeki replied matter-of-factly. "Stop eavesdropping and help me put out the futons."

I love the dynamics between them in this scene. I really love the "everyone knows but them" trope and enjoy fun ensemble fics in general, which is why I was a painfully shy, voracious lurker in XMFC fandom back when it exploded onto the scene on LJ, then AO3.

The trio's easy familiarity in this scene recalls their high school friendship, but matured now that all the characters have established themselves as adults and gained a lot more self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and found their own individual happiness.

On the topic of localization differences, that's honestly one of the most frustrating things cause there's a legit discussion and criticism to be had about how localization sometimes changes character motivations and story elements to be much more different from the original source material, like the aforementioned Treehouse changing Eddie's dialogue to be more anti-heroic. But it gets shut down by people who think any criticism towards localization is the second coming of Gamergate, due to bad faith actors posting reactionary videos and posts about how "woke translators" are ruining Japanese media.

And while I can't speak on whether or not they did change some of Eddie's dialogue because I know little about how she is in the japanese version of 3H (except that Teaspoon's translation shared that in chapter 2 she said "Take as much [students] as you can with you" by something with replacement or smth ?) I know that whenever someone try to speak about the change they did to Fates they usually get mocked for trying to defend the game that lets you marry Sakura and Elise because "had localization not added some lines to removed the implications it would have been terrible, never mind that they still let you marry them anyway !!" And like I said people complain about the face petting mini game being removed when again they let the lines they say when you complete said mini game...

So yeah, stuff like that, and I am expecting it to be the same with Engage because I keep hearing people complain about the English dub which makes me scared cause like it's been a while since I played Engage with English dub but I recall it was fine ? Anyway yeah, because of the bad faith actors that keep insisting that "localization saved us from marrying Anna" when again, you do not marry her in the jpn version or "marrying Veyle" which again, you do not marry in the jpn version, you are gonna have people say it "saved Engage and it's character" when it. did. not. Treehouse rewrote entirely some character's personality such as Etie, missed out about some character's behaviour being caused by their past such as Louis, removed some lines in the MAIN STORY, added some wordlbuidling element that aren't necesarrily what the writers wanted such as them precising the bandits Céline excuted were from Firene when in the jpn version she never says where they are from etc. And like I said, while there can be changes approved of by IS and in the case of 3H, IS and KT themselves, that are KINDA hard to imagine they were ok with cause like, why would they be ok with the localization rewriting some story part they had month to come up with ? OR change a character's personality ? Or, even more useless, change Fogado's dislike for swimming in a disliking for fishing (why even change that ?!)

Anyhow, like I always say and as frustrating as it can be : localization is just a translation among others. It's the official translation so we can't descredit it in anyway but that doesn't make side translation invalidate. The only way that make a translation bad is : 1) when the meaning is so completely different that it feels like you are reading a completely different text from the original 2)when it lacks of fluidity in the target language. Translation and localization are hard, but that doesn't excuse some of the suff Treehouse did in the past and that they do now. While there are stuff that you cannot come at them after, there are stuff that you SHOULD come at them after.

Rewatching some OT2018 moments and man, I kind wish Violeta and Chiara would all have been old enough to participate back then because personality-wise, they remind me a lot of the contestants back then (them and Ruslana and Bea as well too, kinda, but those first two mostly), because that edition was probably the kindest and most respectful one (and it's no wonder they're also the only edition in which almost all of them -except two- still get along with each other). María Escarmiento would have immediately adopted Chiara and become her protector. Julia Medina would have been besties with Violeta (and the queens of comedy) and adored Chiara as well (she actually does now lmao, she's legit her number 1 fan outside the academy). Everyone would have been understandable about Chiara's ADHD and everyone would listen to her and wouldn't tell her she's making up excuses for doing something (Alba Reche would have probably given five TedTalks about ADHD herself, along with Violeta, and five more about feminism with Sabela). A table composed of Kiki and Violeta + Alba, Natalia, Julia, Marilia, María, Marta and Sabela would have been iconic. Natalia and Chiara would have written the anthem together in five minutes. There would have been a fake debate between the girls over who's got the best face card, Violeta or Natalia. They would have probably given Kiki and Violeta a funny trio song with Sabela or María the same way Julia, Natalia and Alba had one, and they would have been iconic. María would have loved Violeta for sneaking chocolate into the academy. And both Violeta and Chiara would have probably made it to the finals with no hate campaign over this one. (Also, some of the rudeness or lack of empathy of current contestants would have NOT been tolerated at all lmao, María Escarmiento would have told them to fuck right off if anyone called Chiara a pickme).

Like not joking, the 2018 edition was amazing and they were all great, and it's no wonder that Violeta and Chiara (along with Ruslana) seem to be among their faves this edition because they're the most like them. Man I miss that edition.

Ep 1

1. That's some pretty nice camera work. Knows exactly where to put emphasis on and stylistically so but not overdo it and rely overly on slo mo (ahem like in MJTY. This is NOT a hate on MJTY btw, don't come after me lol). The lighting and coloring isn't exactly complimentary to the level of camera work (I liked the cinematography in League of Nobleman) in my opinion but it's quite good comparer to most costumes dramas.

3. Music is already very beautiful. Just first 10 mins and there's a track inspired by actual historical Chinese tunes?? Wow I hope they release the full version soon.

4. 1. Wow I really like the Spy girl group. This is exactly what I wanted MJTY Spies to be. It's such a pity to have a badass female assassin to go all "Oh no I don't really mean to be bad, I have this tragic backstory and I'm trapped here, romance will save me!" Like girl sure, you can be a good person but you still need to have a convincing performance if you want to function in your ranks and also your character needs to show the results of your cutthroat upbringing. The only thing worse than that is when fans excuse this as "but that's because censorship and there cannot be any openly ruthless main leads" and I'm like ????? No? That's just wimpy writing?

4. 2. The setup and characters are convincing. They aren't pretentiously mysterious but with 50% amount SLAY and 50% rational. The costumes, world building... all sound legit even if this is not a real historical drama. Way too many period dramas use "but it's imaginary!" excuse to write absolutely over the top and ridiculous universes (This was the problem I felt about Kunning Palace from as early on as first 15 mins, and from what I hear it got worse?)

An old idea I had but never did...

The Sprite Royal Rumble is extremely difficult to do, but it is fun to see it finally complete and the final video. I've been doing it for 20 years and while this year likely won't have a legit one, I figured why not talk about one I originally planned to have but couldn't because of outside forces: the Sega Sprite Royal Rumble. I was planning to do this, but ultimately had to cancel it. I sadly do not remember why. But here are some of the details of what was going to happen if I did it.

1 - Commentators

The commentators I usually use are Sagat and Koto. Sagat is an experienced fighter so he can talk about specific strategies and what the fighters could likely be thinking. Koto being the more excitable one that can lead to setups for Sagat while making fun commentary on the fight. With the Sega Sprite Royal Rumble, everyone was going to be Sega related and that would also be the Commentators. To replace Sagat would be Professor Asobin. He was the original Sega Mascot as he would give you hints and advice for early Sega SG-1000 Games. And in the Sega Hard Girls series, he was the teacher with knowledge of various Sega Games. So he would be an expert of the fighters entered. As for Koto's replacement, my idea was Mr. Bones from the Saturn game of the same name. While not as excitable as Koto, his cool nature could be pretty fun to write in comparison. Also Hatsune Miku would have been the ring announcer.

2 - Competitors

This was going to be a 30 person rumble representing so many systems, eras and games from Sega's history. I did not include Atlas due to being a recent purchase. That and I was limited to what sprites I could use. If I do this today, I would definitely try to commission custom sprites to be made. Either way, I looked into 135 Sega Games and Franchises and picked among them. But for the competitors I decided to have, they are as follows...

One was a person I met before she was born. Our moms were friends and that's a lot, add to my mom dying added more. We saw Titanic together in a theater far too many times. We shared beds, our moms pretty much used as as excuses to hang out as adults, her father is why mom told me over and over again to call her if I need her. That house was not good. I know her completely and she is sweet and still wonky in the best way. Wanna get a tour of Vancouver via her and know some people? HER. She and I forgive each other always, almost to a fault. Want to talk about her current life in LA with her partner and kid and how she loves her mom and sister and recognizes fucked up stuff? Also, her. One I met with this one I'm talking about oddly at a bar and he had a history of stories among a table of beer pitchers and and thank what whatever not God I didn't sleep with that slut because I knew better. I adore him and we figured it out and actually became good friends for real. I'm not one to ever slut shame, but he knows and I for sure have shamed him. But he has right back. The best was when we got that out of the way and realized we really liked each other as friends and connected and shared stuff. Before he moved we had spent one day a week together, planned. The kindest thing was him introducing me to a community of people before a specific Thanksgiving meal I was so pre-Depressed about and it being the most lovely and welcoming thing. Just a mess of people, but the atmosphere was perfect and being there was such a kind invite. No one was technically related - mostly - it was just a warm and welcoming home and he is/was a chef and it was them and so much chaos in a way I loved. It was in a gray day, a bit chilly, and I ate beets in that meal (a thing I haven't liked since) and was so thankful when smoking a cigarette out on the patio with him when all of us were full. He knows this is one of the best moments of my life. To put it in context, know this warm home and shared meal was at a tiny place right near Agnes Scott College.

THE ONE THOUGH. My true best friend. She's mine and I'm hers and no matter what, we've got each other. We legit bonded via a cat allergy in middle school on a sleep over at someone elses house. We connected from that and it's special and perfect and I love her. She's the one I'd do anything for, the random human I was fortunate to meet and love and adore no matter what. I can share all my deep dark things with her and so can she. Her true admission is that she might love her husband and kid more than me, as she should!

But the kicker is that I'm the one responsible for them first hooking up. Her calling me on a vacation with her cousin (who had stayed in my home previously when traveling) and just drunkenly rambling about their shared crush and should I and me "Just fuck him" was the necessary push. They fucked. And now they're married for almost a decade and their beautiful boy is starting school and she is so happy and proud and in love.

BTW, her husband is A+. I've been on Ikea trips together with them both together. Also meals. Everyone knows when a friend has fucked and/or dated awful types. No, this guy is good. HE LAUGHS AT MY JOKES AND MEANS IT.

One of the best things that wasn't about them being together, he was raised by two women - lesbians. His dad was a thing until he wasn't, but it's never been major conversation, just a thing. And to my BFF''s husband's credit, he's been so supportive of her when her parents went completely MAGA and it has been hard for her to reconcile. I check in with her about that - not even just during this election, as it has been YEARS - but she's okay and he's good.

She fucked well. I love her. So I celebrate her and their kid going to school and how I will send her a birthday card - handwritten - or just print this out. Cause honestly, she'd get it.

She is the best and part of that small group who watched QAF together when it aired and just a brilliant person always that I'm fortunate to have met via sniffles.
