Obesity and diabetes in the West has gone through the roof along with prescription drugs.

Cancer amongst the UK’s young has risen by 70% since 1990.
Children’s behaviour in school has gone from bad to worse in England and Wales, according to a new report.
More and more children are now being diagnosed with behavioural or mental illnesses.
It’s inconceivable that this is not linked to the change in the western (American) diet over the last 50 to 100 years.
Much of this seems to stem from health professionals’ and heart foundations absolute belief in the food pyramid and demonisation of meat.
Meat and farm food production under threat.
A company in Europe has started to 3-D print, yes, artificially, 3-D, prints, “meat” created in a laboratory. NO!!!
There are many diets from around the world, but only one that definitely does NOT work: The American Western diet!
What has this got to do with money and success? EVERYTHING!
Wealth is health.
I lost 13 kg?
I didn’t starve myself or become a gym rat.
I cut carbs and sugar, ate plenty of meat, fat and veg, walked.
Wealth is health.

My hope is that #Western #medicine, #Easternmedicine, #African #healing modalities etc. will one day merge. Until we see there is much to #learn from #ancient ways of healing the body we'll always see part of the full picture & won't see the patient as a whole. I went to a focus group this evening that asked people with #SickleCell for their opinions & concerns about gene-editing. Could this be a path to a cure for not just #SickleCellWarriors, but all genetic diseases affecting people's #qualityoflife? The miracles of science have the potential to #heal millions of people's suffering and at the same time, there is also untapped #wisdom in #ancientmedicine. I learned about inflammation being a serious issue within the body & the precursor to many diseases through #DrSebi & @QueenAfua in my 20s. Its only now at 37 where I've finally stopped playing with my #health & accepted I can't do what others do, #eat what others eat bc my body will always let me know if I'm helping or hurting myself w/#food. The #Americandiet lacks fiber. There are many issues with it: too much meat, not enough #veggies, too much salt & sugar etc., but bodies ALWAYS tell us our #truth. For me, I was just too stubborn to listen even when I knew in less than 24hrs of #eating cheese my body would create hard painful itchy cysts. I would resent the fuck out it & ate my damn pizza anyway. SMH Becoming vegan again was the only choice if I wanted to lessen my body's inflammation as much as possible. The sickled cells do a great job of constantly tearing my body down 24/7 anyway. So choosing to be #vegan isn't a trend for me & I can't even say it's bc I care so much about the animals (not #1 on my list). Just got tired of assisting in creating my own hell in the process. #Repost from @markhymanmd- I recently spoke with @drsusanblum about using Functional Medicine to treat arthritis. As #inflammation is the most basic problem in all #arthritis, taking a deeper look at the causes of inflammation gives you options for reversing the process where it starts: in the gut, in the mouth, from your food, & from the stress response. Find our full conversation on my website. #functionalmedicine

It’s Saturday night, as I finished making my dinner post-workout I began to think in depth about how my relationship with food and exercise has changed.
The attitudes towards both food and physical activity in America are what I would consider fundamentally flawed.
We glorify exercise for aesthetic purposes.
I also have noticed that more often that not when I’m eating some sort of meal with fruits or vegetables, I automatically am bombarded with questions about whether or not I’m on a “diet”
There are apps readily available on your phone which enable you to meticulously track your calories and macronutrients.
You can’t log into social media without seeing an advertisement on your timeline or having someone attempt to sell you some sort of nutritional supplement. “I feel so energized when I drink my greens in the morning!” (Plot twist: There are these things called vegetables at the supermarket which are substantially less expensive. Your body also rids itself of most vitamins which are in excess of what it needs.)
The dietary supplement industry in the United States is estimated to be worth a whopping $131 billion in 2016. If we spend so much time and money on trying to get and stay in shape, why is our country still struggling?
I’ve read many articles and discussions about the dietary habits and health of those living in European nations (France, in particular) While many remain baffled as to how the french could consume foods that are particularly calorie dense and yet have much lower rates of obesity….I don’t find it that difficult to believe. It isn’t the food products themselves, it’s their relationship with food.
My relationship with food changed when I decided to stop looking at my eating habits as a means to improve my physical appearance, began to reject fad diets, supplements, or the notion that major food groups need to be eliminated for weight loss success.
I eat fruits and vegetables because of the energy they give me, I don’t make good choices about the foods I’m eating for the purpose of losing body fat.
Tracking calories, initially, can be helpful if you aren’t sure just how much you’re eating in relation to what you’re burning. However, I think if it becomes meticulous and you’re beating yourself up for eating something outside of what you feel you’re “supposed to eat” - perhaps you should re-evaluate your relationship with your diet. (I use diet as a general term, referring to eating habits)
I’m not saying energy expenditure isn’t important, it is. What I found myself, already having a full grasp of the concept, having taken multiple nutrition courses in college, is just how easily these apps can become problematic. Shouldn’t you eat for personal enjoyment AND to feel good? Contrary to what many believe the two aren’t mutually exclusive.
I completely ditched the idea that I was exercising for weight loss or sex appeal.
I began to eat and exercise for my own health because I love myself and I want to mentally and physically FEEL good.
I also decided to completely reject the idea that one form of exercise is better than the other. It bothers me to the core that I hear this stuff all the time. “Cardio isn’t as good for fat loss!” “Do this, not that!”
This bothers me because it oversimplifies, it also once again fails to acknowledge all of the other benefits of regular physical activity and reduces it’s purpose to one thing: weight loss.
I run - a lot may I add…because let me tell you, there is no better feeling than having a healthy heart and lungs. When I finished my first marathon, my resting heart rate was 50 some odd beats per minute. Do you know how good it feels to go to the doctor and have them compliment you on how healthy you are? - haha…pretty damn good.
I don’t strength train for my physical appearance anymore either. I do it because I enjoy feeling strong, it also is beneficial since I work with animals at my job who weigh as much or more than I do.
I also want to maintain healthy bones to prevent injury as I grow older and while I’m running long distances.
I suspect this reductionist mentality (exercising solely for weight loss) is a large reason many Americans have difficulty sticking to their workout routines. If you aren’t truly doing it for your own internal benefit, you probably won’t continue to do it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again a million times, you should exercise for so many more reasons than losing weight.
I realize this entry is getting long and I could probably go much more in depth. This all just came to mind as I finished the first week of getting back into my fitness routine. Back in August I became sick, was throwing up after eating all the time, and had several health issues. It feels so good to be back out there and doing it for all of the right reasons.
I guess the moral of this post is to approach health and fitness from a place of self-love and not self-loathing.
Note: I’m not a fitness professional, I’m also not a registered dietitian. I’m just a gal, giving sound advice from my personal experience, and attempting to promote thought surrounding what I view as an important topic. In addition to my thoughts here I think it would be extremely interesting to see if any correlations exist between physical activity levels in countries and the prevalence of diagnosed mental illness (depression particularly) - stay tuned.

Cheap food now, becomes really expressive later. These companies are driven by money, but we have a big say in supply and demand. Health is our birthright. Demand better for you and your family’s health by not voting for these fake foods with your dollars.
