GOD I FINALLY FINISHED THIS!!!!
i apologize for taking so long with this art. exams messed me up and my “awsome” idea to draw each character in a certain technique really slowed down the process of creating this art. but i don't regret it at all and i think it turned out okay
thanks to everyone who suggested their characters!

Wastebasket designed by Donald Deskey, 1928. Wood, paint, silver leaf.
Deskey was one of the leading American industrial designers of the 20th century. His work was strongly influenced by the European Art deco movement, especially after he visited the Paris World Fair of 1925. It was upon returning to America that he became a designer, seeking to bring home some of the innovations he had observed. He is best known for his modernist and streamlined approach to the interiors of Radio City Music Hall, commissioned in 1930 by John D. Rockefeller, and for his packaging designs, which shaped the appearance of everyday American objects from the 1940s onwards.

currently reading henry winston's crisis of the black panther party (here) and it's hitting hard. this was written in 1971 but so much of what he discusses and critiques are just as applicable now. i'm still digesting it but i'm really appreciating the read

I'm only on like chapter 4 but I really like the way Migi to Dali is handling the idea of irrational childhood fears when experienced by two twelve-year-olds with seemingly very little interaction with normal human society. like why WOULD the twins know what wigs are and why people have them? they don't need them to survive! they're completely superfluous! I don't think they've had much space for superfluous things. they're used to everything being a life-or-death matter with only each other and their wits to save them. thinking the parents are going to steal their hair and then make their escape on what looks to be a biplane is a very twelve-year-old thought process, but it makes sense that they would immediately assume they're in danger.

You have me craving priest price. CRAVING
ahhh, love that so much because same!! i don't want to be alone in this rabbithole lmao but i just think there's something so enticing about the concept itself and ever since devouring midnight mass and preacher, i can't get the idea of corrupted clergy out of my head. or, like, corrupting clergy.
but it's also very easy to take his canon convictions and flip them around. replace war with god and you have yourself a preacher. i don't want him to be clean, either. his sermons are all about being soldiers of god. all old scripture. you catch him drinking whisky, smoking cigars. he cusses. he's bloodthirsty. forgiveness is much too new testament to him, yanno? he's more about divine punishment. scorched earth. you are either saved or a sinner, and there's no in between.
but don't worry, he's going to save you. willingly or not.

MORE THOUGHTS ON BLUE EYE SAMURAI...
So this is spoiler-filled and assumes you've seen the show.
I don't like giving spoilers if a piece of media is good so... last warning:
I was worried that they'd make Mizu a woman in the typical way, even when disguised as a man. Suddenly she becomes the "girl with the ponytail and glasses" who is actually stunningly beautiful when not in her protective disguise...yellow glasses included, because yellow and blue make green, and green eyes *were* a more common color within east Asian communities.
I like that detail.
I love that she is drawn as a handsome woman. Which makes sense given her upbringing and training. Not pretty ~*because of her blue eyes*~. This is what I meant by the fetish thing.
That bothered me so much for Memoirs of Geisha...
It smacks of this thing certain men do when they gaze upon what they perceive as mixed-raced women. A disgusting eye that perceives any presumed "whiteness" as what makes a person of color beautiful.
It's gross and having seen that two mixed-race Asian women had a hand in writing/producing this, I get why that aspect was treated well this time.
The romantic in me also loved the nibbles of tension between Mizu and Taigen, and Mizu and Akemi, and even Akemi and Taigen...
Just. The relationships are so well-done.
Ringo is a gem of a person, and honestly the bravest and most decent character in the show.
Episode 5, remains the high-point. That Bunraku (Japanse puppet theatre) framing for the flashback and that crushing climax.
My heart broke for the death of Mizu's heart and most of her humanity.
I felt the air sort of let off slowly in that last ep instead of the blast of relief I expected, but I'm here for Mizu killing those white men.
The fight choreography was exquisitely planned and filmed. Live action could learn something from the framing of certain moves in this, but there were a few moments when injuries definitely should have affected more than they did...Though, that is also a trope of the genre.
I'm just totally gripped by these characters and will be here for season two. If we get one.
PLEASE WATCH IT so we get those four seasons!

I'll never understand the American obsession with making video games out of the horrific conflicts they've pursued across the world.
the endless stream of Vietnam war games and the obsession with gunning down faceless people in generic middle eastern countries. aren't you ashamed a bit? you kill a country, make movies about how sad it totally made you and then your sons relish in reliving it in games paid for by arms companies.

honestly i think spn needed to do a benders style "it's just people" episode every couple seasons. not too often that viewers expect it but bmol was a nice change of pace for a reason.
