GOD I FINALLY FINISHED THIS!!!!
i apologize for taking so long with this art. exams messed me up and my “awsome” idea to draw each character in a certain technique really slowed down the process of creating this art. but i don't regret it at all and i think it turned out okay
thanks to everyone who suggested their characters!

Wastebasket designed by Donald Deskey, 1928. Wood, paint, silver leaf.
Deskey was one of the leading American industrial designers of the 20th century. His work was strongly influenced by the European Art deco movement, especially after he visited the Paris World Fair of 1925. It was upon returning to America that he became a designer, seeking to bring home some of the innovations he had observed. He is best known for his modernist and streamlined approach to the interiors of Radio City Music Hall, commissioned in 1930 by John D. Rockefeller, and for his packaging designs, which shaped the appearance of everyday American objects from the 1940s onwards.

currently reading henry winston's crisis of the black panther party (here) and it's hitting hard. this was written in 1971 but so much of what he discusses and critiques are just as applicable now. i'm still digesting it but i'm really appreciating the read
#winston was an african american marxist leninist critiquing the ultra leftist anarchist and maoist practices of the bpp#and discusses how these elements made it easier for them to be successfully targeted by the ruling class + infighting#among other issues#he wrote it as a contemporary black activist not as an outsider#really really great writing

Kataang Week 2024 DAY 1 // Cultural Sharing
“I’m nervous. Am I doing okay?”
“You’re doing amazing Sweetie.”
#kataangtag#kataang week#kw24#katara#aang#kataracies#avatart#As someone whose hair is a major part of their culture I wanted to lend that to this piece#I think braiding would be wonderful in the hands of Air Nomads women even though the men are all top bald baddies ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_#in my culture Black Americans used hair braiding as a way to navigate. Braiding styles were used as maps to avoid traps and find freedom#and since Air is the element of freedom it felt right 💛🧡#on a lighter note do NOT notice how rusty I am ok HEY WHAT I SAY AHT AHT#I’m so happy I finally got to draw these bubbles braids on someone they are the CUTEST#I will say dating someone from another culture isn’t as hard as people fantasize 😂 I’m just respectful of my partner and eager to learn#I think a lot of that gets lost when people focus to heavily on if one or the other partner doesn’t look like they are 24/7#dripped in another partner’s culture. like a lot of love for the significant other gets missed#but you’ll never lose that love or reverence for you culture and I hope that message comes across in this lil drawing ok byeee (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*: ・゚#ON TO DAY 2#English majors do not come for me I see it’s the wrong *too ITS THE TAGS GIRL WHATCHU WANT ME TO DO

next person who even jokingly says that rosemary’s lobotomy is what triggered the kennedy curse is getting their entire bloodline cursed
#for the record i don’t believe in the curse#sometimes life is horrific and filled with grief and there’s no supernatural element there#and ppl who say this are implying that the rest of the family deserved to suffer and die#like. besides the assassinations did kathleen deserve to die in a plane crash?#did john jr and carolyn deserve it to die in one too?#was jackie watching her husband’s brain explode just a consequence of something her father in law did?#im not defending the many awful things the kennedy family has done and been complicit in#but some of you are just malicious people#also joseph sr did not deserve his stroke#disability is not a punishment#anyways it’s clear that all some of you know about rosemary kennedy is that she was lobotomized and that’s where your research stops#she wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. she loved her family (especially her sister eunice)#she had desires and goals and dreams just like all the kennedys did#and if you look into any prominent american disabilities programs and orgs there’s a good chance the shriver branch is involved with them#they were the closest to rosemary out of any of the kennedy branches#rosemary is to american disability acceptance and activism what her brothers are to american politics#the best way to honor her is to love your disabled friends and family members unconditionally#liz informs you#rosemary kennedy#jfk#john f kennedy#bobby kennedy#rfk#kennedy family#nothing bad evah happens

I'm only on like chapter 4 but I really like the way Migi to Dali is handling the idea of irrational childhood fears when experienced by two twelve-year-olds with seemingly very little interaction with normal human society. like why WOULD the twins know what wigs are and why people have them? they don't need them to survive! they're completely superfluous! I don't think they've had much space for superfluous things. they're used to everything being a life-or-death matter with only each other and their wits to save them. thinking the parents are going to steal their hair and then make their escape on what looks to be a biplane is a very twelve-year-old thought process, but it makes sense that they would immediately assume they're in danger.
#migi to dali#migi and dali#also im really liking this weird eerie american suburbs vibe it has despite it being set in japan#adds to the surrealism element of it. its like reality but it isnt#also the mystery. like is this an alternate timeline where japan is more westernized? is it just these people? will this be explained?#who knows! certainly not me!

You have me craving priest price. CRAVING
ahhh, love that so much because same!! i don't want to be alone in this rabbithole lmao but i just think there's something so enticing about the concept itself and ever since devouring midnight mass and preacher, i can't get the idea of corrupted clergy out of my head. or, like, corrupting clergy.
but it's also very easy to take his canon convictions and flip them around. replace war with god and you have yourself a preacher. i don't want him to be clean, either. his sermons are all about being soldiers of god. all old scripture. you catch him drinking whisky, smoking cigars. he cusses. he's bloodthirsty. forgiveness is much too new testament to him, yanno? he's more about divine punishment. scorched earth. you are either saved or a sinner, and there's no in between.
but don't worry, he's going to save you. willingly or not.
#corrupted priest price w american gothic elements#like unhinged zealotry televangelist-cult-vibes complete obsession#or soft angsty and realistic a la fleabag#and even supernatural elements#he found god in the trenches when he was a soldier#but you think he brought something else something darker and twisted back with him#spiralling over this actually#so so so many ideas#cod

#em draws stuff#frankenstein chronicles is a show you can watch#frankenstein chronicles#john marlott#tagging with the real title as well If anyone is looking in the tag for this show#(I really don't think anyone is but if you are then Hi! sure was a television show there huh!)#best viewed with high screen brightness (I spent three hours coloring and I would like you to be looking)#it has been a while since I returned to this old-favorite topic (stitched-up undead fellows) and I had enough visual inspiration#from the show itself (the blake engravings! the teal lighting in ep6!) to really have fun with the rendering on this one#continuity caveat to the 1.5 people who care - I Know that marlott no longer has the chancre on his hand by the time he's all stitchy#but this show does enough with his unreliable perception of the world around him that I felt that I couldn't leave it out#oh and also that's the elemental symbol for mercury! as it seemed only apt to include it in some way#caption lyrics from american murder song since it seemed only appropriate#(also I listened to all of murder ballads of 1816 while coloring this For The Vibes)#ANYWAY now that I have Drawn Picture I might watch s2 now and find out what happens to this v sad wet man next!

MORE THOUGHTS ON BLUE EYE SAMURAI...
So this is spoiler-filled and assumes you've seen the show.
I don't like giving spoilers if a piece of media is good so... last warning:
I was worried that they'd make Mizu a woman in the typical way, even when disguised as a man. Suddenly she becomes the "girl with the ponytail and glasses" who is actually stunningly beautiful when not in her protective disguise...yellow glasses included, because yellow and blue make green, and green eyes *were* a more common color within east Asian communities.
I like that detail. I love that she is drawn as a handsome woman. Which makes sense given her upbringing and training. Not pretty ~*because of her blue eyes*~. This is what I meant by the fetish thing. That bothered me so much for Memoirs of Geisha... It smacks of this thing certain men do when they gaze upon what they perceive as mixed-raced women. A disgusting eye that perceives any presumed "whiteness" as what makes a person of color beautiful. It's gross and having seen that two mixed-race Asian women had a hand in writing/producing this, I get why that aspect was treated well this time. The romantic in me also loved the nibbles of tension between Mizu and Taigen, and Mizu and Akemi, and even Akemi and Taigen... Just. The relationships are so well-done. Ringo is a gem of a person, and honestly the bravest and most decent character in the show. Episode 5, remains the high-point. That Bunraku (Japanse puppet theatre) framing for the flashback and that crushing climax.
My heart broke for the death of Mizu's heart and most of her humanity. I felt the air sort of let off slowly in that last ep instead of the blast of relief I expected, but I'm here for Mizu killing those white men. The fight choreography was exquisitely planned and filmed. Live action could learn something from the framing of certain moves in this, but there were a few moments when injuries definitely should have affected more than they did...Though, that is also a trope of the genre. I'm just totally gripped by these characters and will be here for season two. If we get one.
PLEASE WATCH IT so we get those four seasons!
#blue eye samurai#I also loved the animation style#which combined 2d we need more 2d!!!#with some 3d elements#this show is too good to see fail simply because Netflix doesn't know#how to promote it properly#especially when so much BTS is from Japanese-Americans

I think a factor a lot of farming/crafting sims completely forget to include is the aspect of, not just being self-sustaining, but being part of a community and providing for that community. They sometimes put in side quests and stuff where you hand out resources to folks, but, like, a lot of the time you don't need to actually farm much because you aren't even selling your products, or they don't sell for much.
The simple solution, and easiest way to add depth to the farming (because another common problem is the farming lacks depth and can be fully automated without really interacting much with it like it's a chore to eventually overcome rather than the main gameplay loop) is having a rating system. 1-5 stars, higher yields, special yields, one or all of these depending on how well you care for your animals or fertilize your crops. While it can be tedious due to the game's unecessarily slow scaling, I think tale of two towns did this the best by including all of these for the animals and different actions for attaining each. It should feel like more than just a daily button click.
A good farming sim should have you spending lots of time actually working your farm, not because of the scale of the farm, but because of the depth of the care you can put into it. And the time off the farm should be spent interacting with the community in a more in-depth and cyclical way that makes your character feel a part of it. That's the key to those cozy vibes.
#farming sim#THIS is why i hate farm sims that have combat and other elements slapped on#not just because they arent what i was looking for#but because it becomes clear theyre meant to take up the bulk of your time in game instead of farming#which means the farming isnt fleshed out and youre spending most of your time away from your farm#which is supposed to be the main gameplay but the gimmick addition is what ends up most fleshed out#because at the end of the day these farm sims are made by people who like survival games not farming games#they enjoy the self sufficiency not the actual farming#thats how a lot of american made farm sims feel anyways#dont mind me just ranting about farm sims again...#anyways#sprinklers my beloathed#theres theoretically nothing wrong with you but every time i see you especially if you have upgrades i know the gameplay will be mid#btw sims 4 has better gardening than half the farming sims and thats sad#but sims 4 has a quality system and not just watering but weeds and pests and hybridization and grafting#and you have multiple avenues to sell your products of varying depth with the community#anyways sorry for yet another rant about 'people who make and play indie farming sims dont actually enjoy farming sims'
