He was holding her close, whispering the lyrics into her ear. Squeezing her tighter, but still, lovingly he planted a kiss on her neck. Muffling the lyrics he was saying. 

2. The complication of getting a prescription refill (The X Files)

She turned to look at him, realizing he didn’t care she saw him shirtless. She shrugged saying ‘‘Well, yeah, I suspected it for a while now. I just figured you would tell me when you're ready. It didn’t feel right to ask. It’s not of my business, as long as you’re happy Mulder.’’ 

3. Jim The Fish (DW 11xRiver)

‘Sweety, you can’t just take a fish out of a pond and keep it.’ She looked at the poor creature who was clearly struggling. She gently took it from his hands and released it back into the water. The fish gladly swam away, but then returned holding his head out of the water.

She knew the distance between them had been slowly growing to the size of a canyon. She hated having to push him away, but it seemed like her only option to keep herself from breaking her own heart. Like she was letting herself down slowly.

So he was surprised when she said his name. First, he was surprised she was still awake, they had been lying in bed for about half an hour. And then when the words registered in his brain, he wasn’t sure he heard her right

As per usual, when Emily spotted her parents from the playground, she ran to them and demanded a piggyback ride back to the car, which Mulder obliged. He helped her buckle up as Scully started the car. The drive home was pleasant, Emily recounted how she learned that a caterpillar could become a butterfly. And said they had to draw butterflies, so she had a new artwork for Mulder’s art gallery. 

7. Nobody warned you about me? (DW 11xRiver)

Finally, they saw it, the big blue box. Like a beacon in the sea of all the people. The Tardis was standing exactly where they left it. River thanked god it was because she was not ready to drag The Doctor around the town to look for his box.

It’s your girl the assistant commander of the watchdogs, the princess of MGM 17, the queen of the entire Yonder-Galaxy, and the watchdogholder of the butterfly miraculous in the SaveWOY Amino, Alisha! Yep! That’s right! I’m back with another short video after 4 months but this one is a very special video. On March 9th 2024, I had one of the best days of my life, I met Tom Kenny for the first time at Awesome Con! It was absolutely incredible since he’s made a big impact on my life and I will always remember the day I met him. It was also my very first comic con at Awesome Con which was absolutely incredible which is surprisingly close to where I live. Tom was so sweet and so kind and he was able to recognize me since I was the one who messaged him back in October🥺. He said that I’m the best, I’m talented, and I’m a queen🥺. Those words mean so much to me especially since Tom Kenny voices my top 5 favorite characters voiced by him who are Mumbo Jumbo from Teen tirans who’s my number 5, Ice King from Adventure Time who’s my number 4, Dr. Two Brains from WordGirl who’s my number 3, SpongeBob SquarePants who’s my number 2, and my number one of course is my beautiful evil peep love Commander Peepers from Wander Over Yonder. Out of all the characters he voiced, my beloved Commander Peepers had the biggest impact on me. Without him, my channel on YouTube wouldn’t have gotten popular, Amberlin(the mean girl who tried to take Peepers away from me twice who also gave me a depression for 2 months 3 years in a row who I mentioned) would’ve had Peepers instead of me, and my watchdog oc on my channel wouldn’t have even existed if it weren’t for Tom Kenny voicing Commander Peepers and my beloved Commander Peepers. If you’re wondering what’s going on in the short Tom Kenny is doing the Commander Peepers intro from the Wander Over Yonder episode The Funk of when Commander Peepers and the other Watchdogs invade a planet called Cluckon and Peepers introduces Lord Hater with a huge entrance but this time he does my version that I use when I’m doing invasions in roleplay! I was hiding from Gretchen.

Okay, that's not true.

I was hiding from Gretchen and her friends Sonia and Jerrica. I wasn't in the mood to answer questions about why I wear my hair like Morticia Addams according to Jerrica, or listening to Sonia obsess over Kyle's angst and why she would be good for him.

Sonia is very off, whenever she sees Kyle with another girl, she acts like a jealous girlfriend. Sometimes she'll give him the cold shoulder, and naturally he won't even notice. That one week when he was with Kayla Kendall, Sonia sobbed in the girl's bathroom, wrote Kayla Kendall has herpes on the bathroom wall, ripped up her diary which apparently consisted only of Kyle and attempted to flush the pages down the toilet which only caused a flood.

She now has a week of detention.

I like them though.  I think Gretchen is nice to talk to, I opened up about my old friends ignoring me and told her it felt nice to be included. Last week we had a sleepover at Jerrica's. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the girls like scary movies too, and they let me pick the movies since I work at Blockbusters and get the discount. We watched Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Slumber Party Massacre II, and Donnie Darko. We had pizza hut and of course talked about Kyle. They can't stop talking about how he approached me at morning mass that day, but I reminded them that he hasn't approached me since. He was probably just intrigued because I was a girl he hadn't seen before.

I hated how that made me feel sad and insignificant, because I couldn't stop thinking about him. And when he wasn't paying any attention to me, which was often, I would watch him. I'm writing a story about a serial killer who has fallen obsessed and in love with this girl who feels all alone. The killer is an actor and no one suspects his crimes, I based him off of Kyle. Down to those loose, satin curls of his.

I think about him so often, I even made a CD of songs that remind me of him.

I'd never admit that out loud, how I would die of embarrassment if I was another girl obsessing over the mad, bad, and dangerous to know Kyle Scheible. 

But yes, I was hiding from my new friends. It's very hard reading around them, and lately I've been enthralled by Flowers in the Attic, a book that the school and most schools have banned. It had lies, murder, incest, everything horrid and written like poetry.

I was hiding beneath a tree on the school property, headphones on and listening to Hole's Live Through This, album to set the mood right.

It was a hot September day, I had two buttons undone on my school shirt and my socks scrunched down, one leg laying down as the other was hitched up. My hair was piled up on top of my head and held together by a tortoise shell banana clip, a myriad of my raven strands fell from the clasp. But it was off my neck and that was what's important. 

I swallowed the words on the pages with greed until I felt someone beside me. I froze when I saw long pale fingers, a disproportionate thumb resting on the page, teasing its hem. I smelled laundry detergent, cigarettes, and a spicy cologne smell as I felt someone against me.

I pushed my headphones down to rest around my neck and looked up to find Kyle reading the words on the page of my book with intensity.

Instead of demanding what his problem was, I found myself studying his perfect profile. His prominent Adam's apple I wanted to suck on, the razor sharp jawline and his aquiline nose. His eyes look greener today, like marble green. His hair fell in his face and I had the strongest desire to brush it away, but the breeze did that for me and I envied that breeze for doing so.

"“Around us, below us, this huge house seemed a monster, holding us in its sharp-toothed mouth. If we moved, whispered, breathed heavily, we’d be swallowed and digested.” You really are little Miss-Scare-All, aren't you Amberline?" He finally took his eyes off of the page after reading that excerpt, to stare intimidatingly into my eyes.

I swallowed, my chest rose and fell from my hammering heart, his eyes briefly dropped down to my heaving breasts like some dirty romance novel.  We were so close, I could almost taste his neck. I could bite his collarbone if I wanted.

"How do you know my name?"

His eyes remained dead but a silver of a smirk decorated his lips. "I asked your friend, Gretchen. She nearly uh…had a heart attack though." He chuckled breathily. "You're a little hard to track down Amberline Frasier, someone said you were in the art room and you weren't.  You take the bus to whoever or wherever knows where, and you work at Blockbusters but I never see you there."

He was looking for me? I was speechless, there was nothing special about me, I'm not pretty or interesting or social.  I have no interest in climbing up the high school social ladder. 

He brushed his fingers against my naked thigh, I didn't stop him or feel offense, I just wanted him to never stop touching.  

"Everyone is calling you a witch." He smirked.

"Oh…that's okay…"

His smirk almost formed into a smile and he leaned in closer, slipping something into my bag. "Your lack of care for what your peers think of you, is intriguing." He then stood up. How someone could rise from the grass so smoothly, I'll never know. 

But he was gone as quick as he arrived. I looked at what he slipped into my backpack, finding a copy of The Crucible, I opened the book to the bookmarked page, and there highlighted the quote "‘— a death-ridden woman, haunted by dreams.’". 

Then a ripped piece of paper was paperclipped to the page in messy handwriting, reading, "meet me after school in the parking lot, tell me what haunts you. I want to know about the witch of Immaculate Heart." - Kyle

Welcome to my page! I use this page to mainly rant about yk my failed attempts at weight loss tbh... Rn kind of in my Amberlin Era which is SOOOO EMBARASSING! I don't want to manifest that for myself, and I don't want to be this big anymore, so I am placing an intervention on this horrible binge eating disorder, and I am going to try to lose weight and feel like myself again.

Current BMI: 27.0 (im freaken obese bruh omg)

Height: 5'5 or 165.1 cm

Weight: 165 lbs or 74.8 kg or 11.8 stone

I am really embarrassed about this, I really let myself go... But I am just trying to get better, and admitting I have a problem seems like a step in the right direction.

Goal Weight: 125lbs or 61.2 kg or 9.6 stone

I will not be weighing myself; I will just only be eating when my body physically cannot function without food. I'll most def update this during Halloween of 2024, to let y'all know the progress, I highly doubt I'll notice any change, but as long as the scale goes down, I will be happy.

the only to read list that i have is on storygraph and it's not something that i'm vigilant about keeping up with. in saying that, having 546 on there is probably a few too many lmao

three which is way more than i usual!

i'm trying one on audiobook - the vampires of el norte by isabel canas - and i am struggling because i'm not a fan of the format but loving the book

i'm also reading bell hooks' teaching critical thinking for a uni essay and absolutely loving it

and the last one is the lost world by michael crichton, which is a fun, easy read when i have the time

Mint Mile — Roughrider (Comedy Minus One)

Mint Mile has been an active concern for going on a decade now, but the build has been slow: Three promising EPs were finally followed by a sweeping full-length that dropped the week after the bottom dropped out on reality and the pandemic began. Ambertron was a grand triumph in a year that did its best to stifle such art, but its casual, communal air felt out of sync in a year where easy connection was impossible. Like time and those of us that survived, however, the band has moved on. Those changes are well processed and documented on the appropriately titled Roughrider.

The best place to start with Roughrider might be right at the end with “I Hope It’s Different.” The alt-country ensemble SIlkworm’s Tim Midyett has been writing for and helming with the steady assistance of bassist Matthew Barnhart, guitarist Justin Brown and drummer Jeff Panall is here led by Nina Nastasia on vocals instead — an acclaimed songwriter in her own right whose “That’s All There Is” Silkworm covered way back in 2003. Nastasia looks optimistically to what comes next as she sings “I hope it’s different / Not just another good time / Insulated by uncomfortable lies” set to the band’s twangy slow dance and given added flourish by Poi Dog Pondering’s Susan Voelz organization of the strings. It’s like opening a window and walking outside, the promise of fresh air and a new environment before you after Midyett’s scrawling shifts and meandering moods.

That doesn’t mean “I Hope It’s Different” is the best song here, exactly. Mint Mile has taken up the mantle of the kind of unspooling Americana Jason Molina used to excel at so well, which is a funny thing to say given Roughrider’s brevity relative to Ambertron. Even so, the band is firing on all cylinders here regardless of track length; “Interpretive Outlook” does every bit as much with its sub-three-minute runtime as “Brigadier” does pushing eight. The breadth of musicianship is on full display and Midyett’s songwriting expands or contracts to fit the music as needed; his roughened, unsparing delivery had me recalling early Jets to Brazil and Lucero.

But perhaps even more so than Ambertron, this is a record about community. To wit: The band shines brightest when the core four are accompanied, which is almost always. The fluid grace of Brown’s pedal steel guitar and Barnhart and Panall’s anchoring rhythm section never sounds better than when there’s just a little something extra — Susan Voelz’s violin, say, or Alison Chesley’s cello. I was disappointed to discover frequent associate Howard Draper did not bring back the “magic spackling thing” as a credit from Ambertron, but nevertheless, his piano, organ and lap steel guitar frequently add a magic touch where an otherwise strong song could’ve settled. There’s Corvair’s Heather Larimer lending vocal assistance on “Empty Island.” And for Silkworm fans, “Halocline” and “S c ent” each feature Joel R.L. Phelps on saxophone. You could write out the whole list of credits for how many contributors are worth noting and for how much they add to make such a satisfying record.

As with Ambertron, though, the best songs on Roughrider happen when Mint Mile piles on the people in a gradually growing jam that stretches the band’s legs. Mirroring “The Great Combine” and “Amberline,” “S c ent” and “Brigadier” probably started as simple singer-songwriter sketches but grew into enormous, swooning spins. MIdyett appropriately struggles on “Brigadier” to hit an attempt at his highest registers as he sings “Can’t overcome the life we made” while the strings skitter and Panall’s percussion finally brings the band to a crashing finish, where Draper’s pulsing, spirit-cleansing organ takes you out. It’s a real thing of beauty.

The whole album and band — really, we should be more generous and call them a collective — is a thing of beauty. Once again, Mint Mile has delivered music with weathered emotional complexity that retains an open-ended sense of optimism that, maybe from now on, the ride won’t be so rough. How easy it is to fall for that kind of burdened but unbeaten perspective.

What sort of characters do you find yourself making more often, or spinning around in your brain most? Do these align with, or differ from, your characters that you use most?

Also, do you have plans to sort of put down a story with the characters at some point, and if so, which form do you think you'd do it in? :D Have you made stories with them before, and is it something you could see yourself doing in the future, or is the focus primarily on them as art characters and personal lore characters?

OH THIS IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION, thank you for asking!!

It's honestly been a pretty long time since I've made any new characters- I'd have to say its a rarity these days! What happens more often is that they seem to come to me, sparks of inspiration that snowballed, that I didn't anticipate. As for who I spin around in my brain most, it, it's definitely Julian right now, likely followed by Fenisk- Julian's very multifaceted, and I like being able to spin around the concepts of bastard, along with his softer and more thoughtful side, as well as the humor he often (knowingly and unknowingly) provides.

As for stories! I would absolutely love to, and have always thought about that- back in the day, I really wanted to do a webcomic, but also had tiny bits and snippets of writing, nothing major. There's definitely been a lot of interaction between characters and broad ideas that doesn't get written down, and I think at this point, instead of any large projects, I'd rather start smaller, comic pages or little writing oneshots of specific scenes- a story can be all your lore posts, doodles, occasional writing snippets, and the ten thousand ideas you have rattling around in your brain,

(I've always had about three main storylines in my head- most of the characters and things you see are from the first, Shifter Skyline, which involves Spectrum, Central, shifters, and everything adjacent; two older, more open stories I may eventually revisit are Amberline/Secure Technologies (spotlighters!) and GeNtech Labs: Project LAYHR, which technically all take place in the same world I Think, just different regions and don't get much interplay. Most everything I talk about, including Julian, settles into the first though!)

Lately I've been actively trying to read more older sci-fi, especially written by women. I found CJ Cherryh and Vonda N McIntyre by searching back through Hugo award lists from the 70s and 80s. There's a fantastic vibe to a lot of these books that I don't really find in a lot of more recent sci-fi, though I'd definitely like to find it.

If I ever pin down exactly what it is, I'll probably have more luck.

I finished Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy this month, I had been eking the series out over a few months to savour it. It really is a masterful hard sci-fi series, managing to dig deep into the scientific concepts, but also to carry a huge, gripping, and deeply human story.

The other notable read this month was Carnage, by Mark Dapin, which is a true crime book, doing a deep dive on Jack Karlson (of Succulent Chinese Meal fame). It's a really fascinating take on Australian crime from the 60s-2010s, and is also a really nuanced character portrait of someone who is largely known as a meme.

I actually had an issue of when I almost lost Peepers twice to someone named Amberlin and it made me devastated. I don’t want to risk losing him. Without him, my channel wouldn’t exist, Amberlin would have had him instead of me, and my watchdog self wouldn’t exist either. I love him so much🥺🩷
