Bright are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky

Six songs for the "I hate country, it's all right-wing dudes who drive pickup trucks!" crowd, in chronological order:
k.d. lang, "Lock, Stock and Teardrops" (SHADOWLAND/Sire Records/1988): The apotheosis of k.d. lang's youthful obsession with Patsy Cline, an old Roger Miller song lushly produced in Nashville by famed country producer Owen Bradley.
Emmylou Harris, "Waltz Across Texas Tonight" (WRECKING BALL/Elektra/Asylum Records, 1995): '70s country star Emmylou Harris co-wrote this song with Rodney Crowell as the intensely wistful climax of her mind-altering 1995 album with producer Danny Lanois.
Neko Case, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" (FOX CONFESSOR BRINGS THE FLOOD, ANTI-, 2006): Apocalyptic title track of alt country heroine Neko Case's best album to date. "It's not for you to know / But for you to weep and wonder / When the death of your civilization proceeds you"
Rosanne Cash, "Black Cadillac" (BLACK CADILLAC, Capitol Records, 2006): Cash's valedictory for her late father Johnny Cash, the title track of an album about wrestling with the loss of her father, her mother, and her stepmother in the early '00s. Devastating.
Sarah Shook & The Disarmers, "Dwight Yoakam" (SIDELONG, Bloodshot Records, 2015): NB country singer River Shook's twangy drinkin' and depressin' ballad about drowning their sorrows after their girlfriend left them for a guy she met at a country bar.
Karen & The Sorrows: "Guaranteed Broken Heart" (GUARANTEED BROKEN HEART, Ocean Born Mary, 2019): Title track of queer Jewish country queen Karen Pittelman's 2019 album wouldn't be out of place on a Dolly Parton album of the '70s except that the gay content isn't just subtext.

First time posting here so I'll just start with this little instrumental tune I put together called Passing Through Donner's Pass. Inspired by a train ride I took (and not on Amtrak 😅)

Got a new song for y'all! :D
I spent all day writing and recording this damn song, my third so far for FAWM 2025. It's called "Trouble with a Capital T".
I'll probably re-record it at some point, but for now, it's good enough to share with my friends on here! I really enjoy this one :)
Lyrics below:
Trouble with a Capital T
I got a pocket full of paper And a heart full of pain You could call me the perfect mark, and I bet you would I was tossing back my medicine Shot after shot When you sidled up to me like a bad good dream
I shoulda paid my tab and left But when I stopped to catch my breath You caught my eye
You’re Trouble with a capital T, and I I see you waiting for me, up ahead I know how this could go, but I I don’t know if I hope so, or not
Trouble with a capital T, and I I see you smiling at me, oh yeah I know how this will go I gotta tell myself, I told you so That’s Trouble
I’ve always been the kind To measure once, cut twice I go too far and cause too much destruction I mumbled something stupid About being a nuclear mess You just grinned like you love the taste of toxic waste
I shoulda run away right then But I raised my hand again And said "Bring two more"
You’re Trouble with a capital T, and I I see you waiting for me, up ahead I know how this could go, but I I don’t know if I hope so, or not
Trouble with a capital T, and I I see you smiling at me, oh yeah I know how this will go Gotta tell myself, I told you so That’s Trouble
Trouble, baby, trouble That’s what I know Trouble, baby, trouble I guess that’s where this night is gonna go
Trouble with a capital T, and I I see you smiling at me, oh no I know how this will go And you don’t need to tell me that you told me so Sweet Trouble Mmm, you’re trouble Yeah, trouble
