This is dedicated to @blazeflames​ as part of @international-idols​ secret santa. I’m no artist, sadly. So I’ll replace good art with a 2 part post with mediocre style-copied art and fluff fics! Merry Christmas, Blaze, apologies that this won’t come in a single bunch on Christmas day, ChibiMaki is coming, though.

Hanamaru took a generous sip from her tea, a treat after a long day’s practice. She exhaled in one burst, then sucked back in a cold breath of air. Her body was burning up after the long day of practice, but the crisp fall air was slowly working its way in. She took another sip from the straw, but got stuck on a chunk of ice. She scrunched up her face, stirred the tea, then tried again. Ice again. She shook the tea vigorously, then sucked up with righteous fury. Ice. She needed a spoon.

“Ruby, coul—” She paused. Right, she was alone. The two-seater table only had one person in them. Hanamaru blushed. She was just so used to being here with her that she had taken it for granted, but Ruby was with her sister today. Hanamaru sighed. She was glad to see the two reconnecting and bonding, but it left her a bit lonely. Oh well, if Ruby was happy …

She didn’t have too much time to think before a tall woman walked up to her table. “Excuse me, I can’t find a seat elsewhere. Could I sit here?”

Hanamaru scanned the woman. She had striking red hair, was dressed finely, and had reflective sunglasses on. The sunglasses gave her pause. That seems … suspicious. Yet she had no reason to mistrust the lady. “Ah, go ahead. Zura~”

The lady smiled and gently sat down across the table from her. “Thank you very much.” She took a seat and swirled around her own tea, by the looks of it it was also iced tea. Hanamaru thought it a nice coincidence. The woman looked over. “Do you come to this place often?”

“Ah, yes. I come here quite a bit with my friend. Zura~’ She bit her lip over the tic.

The lady didn’t seem to notice. “Hmm, I suppose they are elsewhere then?”

“Yes, she’s out with her sister. Oh— but we were just together a bit ago doing … stuff.”

The lady sipped her tea gently. Hanamaru could see a hint of a purple eye behind her shades, looking at her inquisitively. “What do you do together? I hope you don’t mind my asking.”

“Oh, no, miss. Not at all. Zura~ We’re normally just coming to the library, places like this, the temple.”

“Oh?”

“Yes, my father works up there— Ah, I do too really. Eheh. But we meet a lot for practice now.”

The lady smiled and sipped her tea. “You two seem very close.” She reached up with her free hand and idly twirled a strand of long hair.

“Yes, yes. We are. Zura~” Hanamaru said. As she did, she looked off to the side. “Eheh— We’re normally inseparable, but today she and her sister are off by themselves.”

“Oh? For what?”

Hanamaru tried to read the lady, but none of the obvious suspicious things she read about in crime novels stood out to her. This was just idle talk to the lady … Hanamaru guessed. “Well, they recently just started talking to each other again after a bit of disagreeing. We’re even practicing together and they look so happy.” Hanamaru sighed.

The lady set her cup down. “Well, I have to ask, what do you practice? Comedy?”

“Eh? EEEEHHH?” Hanamaru nearly fell out of her chair. “No, no. Not comedy, I mean, we’re kind of our school’s … idols?”

The lady tugged on her hair. “Seriously?”

Hanamaru blushed and stared into her tea. Was the lady judging her? “I mean … kinda.”

The stranger looked off into the sky above Hanamaru for a bit, then smiled. “How interesting.” She looked down. “What do you do, as an idol?”

“W— Well. Zura~. We sing and promote our school. It’s— It’s a lot of work though! We’re trying to help our school out from … well, how few people are signing up.”

“I mean, what do you do?” The lady leaned forward a bit. “Like, in your whole group, what do you do?”

Hanamaru paused, bit her lip. “W— Well, not much. I— I’m just kinda a voice. But, I really enjoy doing it with Ruby — my friend — she’s really really into idols and … well, I do this all for her.” She smiled. “I love being with her, and I love idols, and I know I can do my best as one when I’m with her.”

The lady pulled up her sunglasses. Familiar violet eyes pierced hers. She didn’t know why, but they were comforting, even though they looked a bit stern for a second. After a bit, her face softened. “So, if I understand it, you’re feeling a little lonely when you should be happy. Am I wrong?”

Hanamaru blushed, spitting out a little bit of tea she was drinking at the time. “Ah ah ah— You are, I mean, no you aren’t. I— … Zura~” Her face fell. “A little.”

The stranger gingerly pulled a napkin out of the handbag she was carrying and handed it to Hanamaru. She took it and wiped the tea off her face. The lady turned to face Hanamaru directly. “I understand it all. But don’t worry too much, alright?”

“I’m sorry,” the little idol said, dabbing at tea on the table, “but why do you care so much?”

“Hm? I don’t understand.”

“I mean, why do you care about me and Ruby? W— We just met.”

The lady took out another napkin and wiped off the tea on her sweater. “Oh, maybe. But I think you’re cute.” She winked.

“E— E— EEEEEEHHH?” Hanamaru had flushed fully through. “Uh, but I—”

The lady was snickering. “Ah, anyways, I ask because I care.” She twirled her straw with her finger. “Or, out of boredom. Take your pick.”

“Oh.” Hanamaru calmed down a bit. “I— thank you.”

“Anyways, do you know where I’m headed?”

“N— no?”

The lady flicked her sunglasses off and pointed off behind her. “Out to Tokyo to see a few very special friends for a meetup. I’m just here to kill time by the beach.” She nodded her tea cup. “We met kinda like you, doing club activities. I had a few … friends, yes. I was closer with them at least than all the others at first.” She winked. “A bit like …”

Hanamaru understood. “A bit like me.”

“I didn’t exactly like everyone else at first. They were, oh, how should I say … annoying? Annoying.” The lady rolled her eyes. “A lot annoying, some of them. But we were a team, a family. And after a bit, I saw those friends I had get closer and closer to everyone else. They were off with them without me sometimes.”

Hanamaru sipped her tea as she listened.

“But – I don’t quite understand this myself, so don’t blame yourself if you don’t – we were closer too. All the time we spent together was more meaningful, and now I had more and more friends. They, however, were still special to me.” The lady smiled. “Understand?”

Hanamaru thought for a moment. “I think I do. It’s just— I’m sorry you’re right.”

“You want to say it takes time?” The lady nodded.

Hanamaru nodded as well.

“It will take time. But, it won’t be a long time.” The stranger jiggled her cup, then realized it was empty save the ice. “I hope you keep doing what you’re doing. Do it for her, for the love of it, and for yourself. Because all three of those will get stronger while you do it.”

“T— thank you.” Hanamaru beamed at the lady. What she said felt, a bit forceful, but relaxing somehow. Still, something was bugging her. “Um, could I ask, what did you and your friends do? Zura~”

The lady winked and pulled out a card. “I have to be off. I’m sorry I can’t stay and chat a bit more. Here’s my card, though I’m only a university student still.” She handed Hanamaru the card, but didn’t even give her time to look it over before she rose to leave. “Good bye, Miss Kunikida.”

Hanamaru looked the card over, but paused for a moment. “Um, miss, how do you know—” The lady was already out of earshot, walking down the road.

She looked down at the card. It was for the woman, a professional pianist. Hanamaru scrunched up her face in thought. Then it hit her. “Oh … Oh. OH!”

Maki hiked up her bag and put her sunglasses back on. She wasn’t sure what came over her then, but it was a refreshing feeling. Waves of shivers racked her. Reliving a memory just seemed so— exciting. She wondered if the girl would remember it too.

Her phone buzzed. After a second, she checked. Ah, Nico was trying to find her. Maki rubbed her nose bridge and exhaled. She may have spent all her patience and compassion a bit too early today.
