The Peruvian Amazon is in danger. The fires not only consume the forest but also destroy the homes of thousands of animals. With each day the fire spreads, more species are left without shelter, without hope. It's our duty to protect this treasure before it's too late.

Megafires in the Amazon Accelerate the Risk of Biome Collapse
Increase in fires in native forest areas and extreme drought could lead to an irreversible situation
A fire that began on August 8 has already burned over 67,000 hectares in the Kayapó Indigenous Land, in the Xingu region of Pará. The data comes from the Servir-Amazonia program, run by NASA, which monitors the region via satellites. The size of the megafire is equivalent to that of Florianópolis and is just one of several fire fronts in the Amazon.
The classification "megafire" is used for fires exceeding 10,000 hectares —something that is becoming increasingly common. "We are not just entering the era of fire but the era of megafires. It's quite catastrophic," says Erika Berenguer, a senior scientist at the University of Oxford.

Unprecedented wildfires in Canada and parts of Amazonia last year were at least three times more likely due to climate change and contributed to high levels of CO2 emissions from burning globally, according to the first edition of a new systematic annual review. The State of Wildfires report takes stock of extreme wildfires of the 2023–2024 fire season (March 2023–February 2024), explains their causes, and assesses whether events could have been predicted. It also evaluates how the risk of similar events will change in future under different climate change scenarios.

"After its first-ever left-wing presidential administration took charge of negotiating permanent peace with the socialist FARC rebels, Colombia’s forests are feeling the effects with a 26% reduction in deforestation in the conflict areas.
These dense, biodiverse rainforests that are a part of the Amazon in places, and independent of it in others, have been one of the many victims of the country’s civil war.
However, President Gustavo Petro is conducting peace negotiations that put the environment first with around 20 splinter factions of the FARC guerillas, who have responded positively.
De-facto leadership in the conflict areas in the forested state of Gauviare has instituted its own deforestation moratorium, and an estimated 50,000 hectares of rainforest have been saved as a result.
“This is really dramatic,” conservationist Rodrigo Botero told The Guardian. “It’s the highest reduction in deforestation and forest fires that there has been in two decades.”
The Guardian recently covered these peace negotiations alongside a delegation from Norway which included that country’s environment minister, Espen Barth Eide.
“What I’m hearing, seeing, and feeling in these meetings is that there is an enhanced understanding that you cannot build a new Colombia on the basis of the further deterioration of nature, so you have to find an economic, social, political, inclusive process that is more respectful towards nature than before,” Barth told the English paper.
Often flying under the radar when compared to its neighbor Brazil, Colombia is the second-most biodiverse country on Earth, and the most biodiverse in terms of bird life.
It’s the 25th-highest country in the world for Forest Integrity Index score (8.26) and boasts twice as many square miles of highly-intact forest than of poorly-intact forest, almost all of which resides in the conflicted states of Amazonia, Caquetá, and Putumayo.
If the Petro government can really put the brakes on the conversion of forests into pastureland for cattle, it would be helping to save one of the most valuable tropical forest ecosystems on Earth."

Pyrrha: Why would there be? Unlike the rest of Remnant, there is virtually no crime in the Kingdom of Amazonia.

What do you think of this: Diana and Nubia are created by Hippolyta and Philippus respectively. Their mothers aren't married but do have feelings for each other. After a while Donna is adopted by Hippolyta. Hippolyta and Philippus ultimately get married, and the three Wonders become sisters.
I prefer Nubia's Rebirth-era origin, honestly, where she was a Madagascar princess who was killed and happened to be reborn from the Well of Souls (like all of the other Amazons) around the same time Diana was given life by the goddesses.
It's an amazing origin story, and both Stephanie Williams and Vita Ayala have done an incredible job fleshing Nubia out and making her her own character with a rich history of her own rather than a plot device to be used and then thrown away the way previous iterations of the character have often been.
I love that Diana's clay birth is unique even among her own people. I love Donna being an orphan from Man's World who was saved from a fire and then adopted by the Amazons. I love that Nubia was the character Williams and Ayala used to re-establish the Well of Souls and the bulk of post-Crisis Amazonian lore after the nonsense that was the New 52. I love that Diana, Nubia, and Donna all represent uniquely different aspects of Amazonia's sisterhood (birth, rebirth, and adoption). Trying to merge and mess with their origins even more, I think, would only sow more confusion into lore that already changes too much with little to gain from it.
I think what a lot of people miss is that they are all already, by virtue of being Amazons, part of a sisterhood. They can be sisters without being literally raised together; they already consider themselves to be sisters canonically, so what's the point in further muddling their backstories just to justify a nuclear family-oriented model of sisterhood? The Amazons have never cared about that; it's enough for them to live and work and learn and fight alongside them, in whatever form that takes.
However Hippolyta and Philippus should absolutely get married. Can't wait for Hippolyta to get resurrected (again) and celebrate by proposing to her. We deserve it after all the suffering DC's put us through.

Older twin of Donni. The two were thick as thieves but raph desired more independence and separated himself from his twin.
The strongest of his brothers raph is seen as the tank and aggressive but he can be the most sensitive. All the boys are artistic in one way or another but raph is very classically artistic. He paints with splinter and also has a knack for blacksmithing and crochet.
In training he is very competitive and takes pride in being the biggest and strongest though this does make it harder for his stealthing.
Outside of training the time he dosen't spend in his studio painting and blacksmithing he is either helping Donni with a project or ironically watching something with mikey and leo.
Thoughts on the guilded city
The idea of having more freedom to explore a version of New York made Raff so excited. He finds that he fits in with these Mystic New Yorkers. He goes on for a bit without magic but often gets himself into a bind like when he and casey got stuck in little Amazonia. He eventually got a mystic patron Ramona Luisa, a dragon girl descended from the feathered serpent. The powers he got were:
• Immunity to fire
• Flaming hands
• Dragon shield
• Venom strike
• Commune with nature
• Flight (gained after mona learns to fly)
The contract for his powers may have accidentally become a magical promise of engagement that is now binding(who

I must repost this wonderful collection of works Brazilian-Mexican artist Fefe Talavera.
From small shells and Amazonian beads, Brazilian-Mexican artist Fefe Talavera strings together elaborate masks that fuse ancient mythologies and contemporary urban culture. The mixed-media works are part of an ongoing series that embellish expressive faces with stripes, symmetries, and various geometric patterns. Sometimes spanning upwards of ten feet or featuring a long tuft of straw, the masks are an amalgam of colour, motif, and material that blur cultural boundaries and the tenuous distinction between humanity and nature.
The São Paulo-based artist tells that the series “developed when my government opened the doors to cattle ranchers, when forest fires began, putting an end to Indigenous tribes, exotic animals, and trees,” and initial iterations used açaí seeds, shells, and mirrors to explore birth and death through a mystical lens.
“When we looked at our reflection in the work, we would be seeing ourselves with respect and love, and it is this look that we should have with the Amazonia,” she says.Currently, Talavera is working on a larger-scale piece using 20,000 beads.

Amazon’s diversity impoverished by forest fires
Researchers investigating the impacts of forest fires have found that species have been depleted and carbon stocks reduced in transitional areas of the Amazon and cerrado biomes. A study funded by the Serrapilheira Institute detected a shrinkage of up to 68 percent in the capacity to contain carbon dioxide in the biomass of forest vegetation repeatedly impacted by fire.
The scientists, led by Fernando Elias from the Federal Rural University of Amazonia, and Maurivan Barros Pereira, from the State University of Mato Grosso, looked at 14 forest areas, divided into three categories: those never impacted by fire, those burned once, and those having recorded multiple fires. They collected data such as the number of species and density of trunks, and calculated above-ground carbon stocks.
“The Amazon isn’t turning into one big savannah; it’s turning into a secondary forest—a poorer forest, with less carbon stock, a reduction of almost 70 percent,” Elias warned.

Disaster in Brazils World Cup Stadiums
The World Cup in Brazil in 2014 was one of the most festive tournaments in world cup history, with a number of impressive stadiums hosting matches. These stadiums were designed to showcase the best of Brazil's architecture and engineering, with many incorporating elements of the country's rich cultural heritage. One of the most iconic stadiums at the World Cup in Brazil was the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. This stadium has a seating capacity of over 78,000 and has hosted some of the most memorable matches in football history, including the 1950 World Cup Final. For the 2014 tournament, the Maracanã underwent a major renovation, with new seating arrangements, a new roof, and other upgrades that made it one of the most impressive facilities in the world. Another notable stadium was the Arena de São Paulo, which had a seating capacity of over 65,000 and was built specifically for the World Cup. Other notable stadiums that hosted matches during the World Cup in Brazil include the Arena Amazonia in Manaus, the Estádio Nacional in Brasília, and the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador. After the World Cup, these stadiums have continued to serve a range of purposes. Some have become the homes of local football teams, while others have been used for concerts, cultural events, and other large-scale gatherings. However, there have been concerns about the high costs of maintaining some of these facilities, which has led to debates about their long-term sustainability. The mood has changed now. Brazilians have not benefited from the tournament commented one high-ranking Brazilian “There has been no legacy for them. The World Cup still makes them angry. There is regret that we even staged it.” While infrastructure costs were massive, the tournament left several soulless bowls dotted across the country that was once called football stadiums. The São Paulo Arena, now used by Corinthians, is one of the few success stories to come away from the World Cup. Other than Neymar’s curtain-raiser, this was where Luis Suárez’s double sealed England’s group-stage fate, Ángel Di María sunk Switzerland with a late extra-time winner in the last 16, and where Maxi Rodríguez fired Argentina into the final with a thunderous shoot-out spot-kick.
