i'm thinking about jeri ryan so i'm thinking about amanda and maybe about amanda showing up in univille looking for pete for whatever reason (not the ring) and myka wanting to know her better, because why did this woman, who is clearly competent and incredible marry pete of all people? there's a bar in univille, not the one where claudia does open mic, a kind of divey one, but the beer's cheap and no one knows myka goes there and she can't help but shake the feeling that she wants to be alone with amanda and g-d knows she won't get that if the others can find her. and they talk and they talk and myka comes to understand who pete was and who he's become and amanda acknowledges that she and pete could never have worked because she would have held him back. and then they're not talking about pete at all, they're talking about being women in positions of power and how difficult it is and they're talking about how hard it is to date and amanda jokes that pete's right there but myka turns her nose up without really knowing why, she just needs amanda to know she's not interested, even though amanda's made her realise that pete's so much more than what she believed him to be. amanda gets it. and if she can't stop her eyes dropping to myka's mouth as she chews absent mindedly on a twizzler she pulls from her bag as they walk back to the car, that's her problem. until myka notices and then it's their problem until amanda pushes her against the side of her suv and kisses her until her head spins, until amanda can taste synthetic strawberry on her tongue.
it becomes everyone else's problem at breakfast when amanda tries to sneak out but leena's already set her a place at the table and pete's the only one surprised to find her sitting there, sipping black coffee and eating toast, myka trying her best to avert her eyes from the other side of the table. they get through an entire meal before he puts the pieces together, pointing from one to the other, amanda smirking at myka's pretty pink cheeks. artie's horrified. claudia's doing her best to choke back a laugh. myka thinks she might die. but all he does is shrug and lean over to steal the last waffle from myka's plate, tells her that she doesn't eat refined sugar anyway.
and all is good.

Fic idea adoption post
So a while ago I read these two fics by @jazzfordshire (ship: Supercorp), in which the two characters are, respectively, a repressed suburban housewife and a swingin' free spirit who moves into the neighborhood, in the 1960s.
And it made me think: what if this, but Bering and Wells? (as I so often do 😅)
But the thing is, I have no time and too many WIPs already, and so I'm gonna set this idea - TWO of them, actually; the second one developed together with @tryingthisfangirlthing - free here on Tumblr for any writer to adopt if they want!
In the first version, Myka is the housewife, all starched shirts and strict rules and what will the neighbors think, and Helena the free spirit who moves in next door.
In the second, *Helena* is the housewife, married young to prevent Christina being born out of wedlock, making the best of a tough situation, and Myka moves in next door after the death of her "husband" Sam.
More under the cut:
Idea 1: Myka Bering got married young, because that was What You Did, and who better than her best friend in high school, Pete Lattimer? He was a good guy, he treated her with respect, and if she didn't quite feel about him like people in her novels did, well, two out of three isn't bad, is it? Married life had its challenges, but Myka held it together while Pete was overseas with the Marines, held it together when he came back and tried to drown what he'd seen in alcohol, held it together when she found out he'd started an affair with blonde bombshell Amanda. Pete was still a good husband; he treated her well and never made a big deal about how, despite her fulfilling her marital duties diligently, they didn't have kids yet. Life was what it was, and it could have been worse, right? - And then a woman moves in next door: a single mother no less! And she wears pants, and repairs her own car, and has no clue of gardening, so of course Myka is a good neighbor and explains how to take care of the begonias. Little does she know where this act of kindness will lead!
Idea 2: Flip the script! Helena Wells got married young, when her promiscuous approach to sex left her pregnant while single. She had no means to support herself; her brother was a writer and barely able to keep food on his own table, much less his sister and her illegitimate child as well. So when Pete Lattimer*, one of her bedroom partners, offers to make an honest woman out of her, she takes him up on it. He's kind, he doesn't mind that the kid might not be his, he genuinely *likes* her - things could definitely be much worse. He is a good father and a kind husband; they have a beautiful house and garden here in the suburbs, even a dog - what more could she ask for? - And then a woman moves in next door: devastated by the death of her husband, Sam, Myka Bering is reticent to be befriended at first, but Helena perseveres. She feels drawn to this woman like nothing she's ever felt before - and then she learns that the Sam that Myka mourns was really a Samantha, and that Myka is a lot more queer than Helena originally thought.
*yes, we're going with Pete as the husband here too - just for the fun of it. You don't have to, if you don't want to, of course!
For a brief moment, tryingthisfangirlthing and me thought about each of us writing one of these ideas, but then we both realized we probably won't - long WIP lists, other projects, etc. etc. So, if you feel intrigued by one or both of these ideas, feel free to take them and run with them! Take whatever tickles your muse, leave whatever you don't like, it's really all free for the taking! All I ask is that you trace it back to Jazzfordshire's fics because they laid the basis for all of this.

Genuienly believe the world was robbed when we didn’t get a crossover episode between Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary.
Can you IMGAINE Helena and Helen? The ridiculousness they would get up to? And Myka being jealous that they’re flirting so much because they’ve know each other for decades.
Henry and Claudia getting on like a damn house on fire!
Pete, Will, Myka and Kate team up to kick ass. Pete is drawn to Nikola’s sass.
Nikola is there too just because I want Helen, Nikola and Helena in the one room.
Artie doesn’t know what to do with himself because Chaos!
Big Guy and Steve have the best time together just chilling out in the Warehouse/Sanctuary.
OR
Just a throwback episode set in the 1800′s where Helena and The Five get into mischief.

Wouldn’t it be amazing and very circle-complete-y if Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ending up having as many people from The Librarians in the cast as Warehouse 13 had people from Star Trek (it shouldn’t have to matter for the parallel if Lindy Booth’s character Alora ends up being a one-off appearance (though I hope the Pike connection gives us an excuse to see her again) as Jeri Ryan was iirc only in one episode of Warehouse 13 as Amanda Lattimer (ironically also the ex of a regular) but that just means I’d want either John Kim, Christian Kane, Noah Wyle or even John Larroquette in a recurring role)

Art Reflects Life

Art Reflects Life (51326 words) by @steellily Chapters: 22/22 Fandom: Warehouse 13 Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Myka Bering/Helena "H. G." Wells Characters: Myka Bering, Helena "H. G." Wells, Leena (Warehouse 13), Artie Nielsen, Claudia Donovan, Pete Lattimer, Amanda Lattimer, Todd (Warehouse 13), Abigail Cho, Steve Jinks, Cassandra Cillian, Liam Napier Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Bookstore, Fluff and Angst, the rating is for content in chapter 21 it is not E through the whole story Summary: Helena dropped her head onto her arms in front of her laptop. “Write a romance novel, he said. It’ll be great for your career, he said. Bollocks.” Helena, finding herself at a spectacular impasse on her latest novel, decides a change of scenery should help her finish the nightmare of a book she reluctantly agreed to write. Myka has been contentedly living the laid back life of a bookstore owner on the Big Island of Hawaii. Perhaps a little romance is what is missing from Helena's romance novel. Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters from the Warehouse 13 universe and I make no claim to.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.
None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio
A groundbreaking story about a teenage girl who discovers she was born intersex... and what happens when her secret is revealed to the entire school. Incredibly compelling and sensitively told, None of the Above is a thought-provoking novel that explores what it means to be a boy, a girl, or something in between.
What if everything you knew about yourself changed in an instant?
When Kristin Lattimer is voted homecoming queen, it seems like another piece of her ideal life has fallen into place. She's a champion hurdler with a full scholarship to college and she's madly in love with her boyfriend. In fact, she's decided that she's ready to take things to the next level with him.
But Kristin's first time isn't the perfect moment she's planned—something is very wrong. A visit to the doctor reveals the truth: Kristin is intersex, which means that though she outwardly looks like a girl, she has male chromosomes, not to mention boy "parts."
Dealing with her body is difficult enough, but when her diagnosis is leaked to the whole school, Kristin's entire identity is thrown into question. As her world unravels, can she come to terms with her new self?
I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
“We were all heading for each other on a collision course, no matter what. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story.”
At first, Jude and her twin brother are NoahandJude; inseparable. Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude wears red-red lipstick, cliff-dives, and does all the talking for both of them.
Years later, they are barely speaking. Something has happened to change the twins in different yet equally devastating ways . . . but then Jude meets an intriguing, irresistible boy and a mysterious new mentor.
The early years are Noah’s to tell; the later years are Jude’s. But they each have only half the story, and if they can only find their way back to one another, they’ll have a chance to remake their world.
This radiant, award-winning novel from the acclaimed author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once.
Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
New York Times  bestselling author David Levithan tells the based-on-true-events story of Harry and Craig, two 17-year-olds who are about to take part in a 32-hour marathon of kissing to set a new Guinness World Record—all of which is narrated by a Greek Chorus of the generation of gay men lost to AIDS.
While the two increasingly dehydrated and sleep-deprived boys are locking lips, they become a focal point in the lives of other teen boys dealing with languishing long-term relationships, coming out, navigating gender identity, and falling deeper into the digital rabbit hole of gay hookup sites—all while the kissing former couple tries to figure out their own feelings for each other.
Skim by Mariko Tamaki, Jillian Tamaki (Illustrator)
Heartbreakingly funny, moving and vibrantly drawn, Skim is an extraordinary book--a smart and sensitive graphic novel of the highest literary and artistic quality, by and about young women.
"Skim" is Kimberly Keiko Cameron, a not-slim, would-be Wiccan goth who goes to a private girls' school. When Skim's classmate Katie Matthews is dumped by her boyfriend, who then kills himself, the entire school goes into mourning overdrive. As concerned guidance counselors provide lectures on the "cycle of grief," and the popular clique starts a new club (Girls Celebrate Life!) to bolster school spirit, Skim sinks into an ever-deepening depression.
And falling in love only makes things worse...
Suicide, depression, love, being gay or not, crushes, cliques, and finding a way to be your own fully human self--are all explored in this brilliant collaboration by cousins Mariko and Jillian Tamaki. An edgy, keenly observed and poignant glimpse into the heartache of being young.
Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen
Hannah wants to spend her senior year of high school going to football games and Mardi Gras parties with her tight-knit group of friends.
The last thing she wants is to fall in love with a girl--especially when that girl is her best friend, Baker.
Hannah knows she should like Wally, the kind, earnest boy who asks her to prom. She should cheer on her friend Clay when he asks Baker to be his girlfriend. She should follow the rules of her conservative Louisiana community--the rules that have been ingrained in her since she was a child.
But Hannah longs to be with Baker, who cooks macaroni and cheese with Hannah late at night, who believes in the magic of books as much as Hannah does, and who challenges Hannah to be the best version of herself.
And Baker might want to be with Hannah, too--if both girls can embrace that world-shaking, yet wondrous, possibility.

Café Play is a site-specific work of theater that’s being held at four different times of day in the back dining room at the Cornelia Street Café, with different food choices depending on whether you attend for breakfast, lunch, tea or late-night snack (all frankly paltry, though I did like my crème brulee). Put together by the endlessly innovative theater company This Is Not A Theatre Company (who’ve previously offered a play in a swimming pool, another in a private apartment, and “pod plays” to listen to on the subway and the Staten Island ferry), the conceit of the show is that we the diners are overhearing the conversations of fellow diners, and waiters, and one unwanted intruder (“Please don’t step on me!”)
click on any photograph by Maria Baranova Suzuki to see it enlarged
There is also some interpretive dancing in the narrow space between the tables and mock-spontaneous singing, which is perfectly appropriate, given that the play is taking place in a notable Greenwich Village eatery/Off-Off Broadway venue/cabaret/literary salon founded by three artists 40 years ago. There are 21 scenes in all. The first involves two ex-lovers meeting awkwardly after a long estrangement, and their clash with another table that escalates into a viral outrage on social media. There are a series of scenes between two stewing waiters who feel mistreated, which ends with an act of revenge against a rude customer that manages to be upbeat and life-affirming. There are passionate scenes about racism and feminism and loneliness and climate change, including a rant against Matt Damon for a beer commercial that claims to do something about the global water crisis. There are conversations between a bottle and a vase, and between an apple and a peach: Apple: What’s the worst that can happen?” Peach: Bruising Apple: Smash me, I become juice. Crush me, I become sauce
There is a duet between a teacup and a mug; a dance of beverages and another of crayons. For the last scene, we are handed a plate of chocolate kisses and instructed to to “let your tongue choreograph the dance of chocolate.”
The acting and writing are uneven, funny and furious, sweet and sour, unstructured in a way that a meal is never supposed to be, and that largely defines New York.
Café Play Cornelia Street Cafe Conceived and directed by Erin B. Mee with scenes written by Jenny Lyn Bader, Jessie Bear, Erin B. Mee, and Colin Waitt Choreography by Jonathan Matthews. Café Play Review: At the Cornelia Street Café, Overhearing Fellow Diners and Inanimate Objects Café Play is a site-specific work of theater that’s being held at four different times of day in the back dining room at the Cornelia Street Café, with different food choices depending on whether you attend for breakfast, lunch, tea or late-night snack (all frankly paltry, though I did like my crème brulee).
