may I ask about your thinking process when drawing mecha?? you're amazing at it and that's fascinating
oh yes you absolutely may ask I would love to talk about it
the main thing I consider is detail. it's all detail, really. how and where to put it, and how to not drive myself crazy drawing it, because i like my machines detailed as fuck sometimes.
I first decide on how complex i want my robot to be. the term i'd use for it is greebling- it doesn't have to make too much sense, but it needs to look visually interesting, and its easier to do if I know what I'm aiming for. I find that the key to mechas and robots is a good balance of very detailed, unified, cluttered components and bigger, less intricate plating. take the beetle mecha, for example.
Tumblr media
I wanted this one to be pretty damn complex. very greebled. the areas of black wiring provide dense patches of unified detail, while its carapace is less intricate but utilizes sparse details, layering, and differences in color to keep up the visual interest. its got dimension. its got things to focus on. its got shit going on all over the place but in different ways so that some things stand out more than others. there's also enough variation in these sorts of designs to keep me interested in the drawing process for a long while instead of getting bored or exhausted, which is why I love drawing mechs so much.
There are also these two iterators i drew a while back, which are less complex, but are good examples of how i like to detail plating/shells.
Tumblr media
I really, really enjoy considering how the different pieces will fit together, and how to make sure one singular component doesn't look too flat or too greebled for what I'm going for. my favorite techniques for this are Give That Fucker Some Tubes and Add Some Geometric Lines To That Bad Boy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my warhammer characters are pretty good examples of variations in my greebling techniques.)
in conclusion: oogh.

I've been trying to find the right way to word this for a few days, but it's a really big pet peeve of mine when discussions of Fuuta and Kotoko and them as a duo that's narratively foiling is watered down to just their crime and comparing which of their murders are more justifiable, which usually leads to the same conclusion of "Kotoko is more right and completely justified in her murder, Fuuta was wrong and bad for his murder, #girlboss #slayhimqueen". And to put it bluntly, I find this conclusion to not only be lacking in nuance, but does a massive disservice to not only 0310 as a duo, but them as respective characters as well, and is missing a huge piece of why they are so fascinating The thing about this argument is that, to an extent, it's right. Kotoko killed an adult man who kidnapped and abused a child with the intent to kill her, and that child is now saved thanks to Kotoko. Fuuta helped lead a harassment campaign against a middle school girl who did barely anything to deserve it (not that anyone deserves to be harassed, but you get what I'm saying), and it led to that girl committing suicide. When you look at their murders side-by-side from that description alone, Kotoko's does seem like the more virtuous murder compared to Mr. Twitter User over here. But that is exactly the point. There is a very good post by @weather-cluddy and very good discussion below it detailing what I'm about to talk about, but to put it shortly: Fuuta is portrayed as a lot more physically violent and unsympathetic than Kotoko is in their MVs. Both are portrayed as physically violent, but the way it is framed through their lense and portrayed to the audience differs from the other. Fuuta is not just portrayed as violent and brutish, he is portrayed as pathetic. Kotoko is not just portrayed as violent and brutish, she is portrayed as cool while doing it (which I mean, she is cool, but that's not the point. Well it is the point but-) Fuuta's violence is aimed towards an innocent child, so it's deemed as repulsive and unjustified. Kotoko's violence is aimed towards a child kidnapper so it's deemed as justified and girlboss. Fuuta is portrayed as a wannabe hero, Kotoko is portrayed as the long-awaited hero. I could go on, but I think you get my point. Fuuta is portrayed in a much worse and harder to sympathize with light than Kotoko is, which also highlights how they themselves feel about their murders (Fuuta's guilt and Kotoko's elation). There is a very big reason as for why Fuuta was not forgiven in Trial 1 meanwhile Kotoko was the most forgiven. Because Fuuta's murder is generally thought to be worse. But here's the kicker: I think people are missing the point by putting focus onto which murder is 'worse', because that's not what makes them so comparable. What makes them comparable is the fact that they share a mindset. A mindset of vigilante justice, of a hero complex, of eliminating the bad people in the world in a faux revolution. And that mindset is exactly the one that got them into this place in the first place. And that's why it irks me when people put so much focus into deciding which murder is worse / who is more unjustified, especially since the majority of people I see this from are Kotoko fans. Your girl is literally doing the same thing you're criticizing Fuuta for in this very prison, and you aren't giving her the same amount of flack for it !!! Like- I don't know. I think putting Kotoko on a pedestal of being "morally better" than Fuuta is not only a really boring way to see things, but it misses a big piece of their characters and why they're so often paired up in the first place.

I agree that qualifying in Monaco is more interesting than a pitstop shuffle, but the only reason we are talking about either of them at all is because of the main problem - the cars are too big for Monaco so it's impossible to overtake on track. If we had good racing on Sunday we wouldn't need to add pitstop gimmicks and quali wouldn't need to be the most exciting thing on the weekend.
Even the cars in 2026 will be too large I think. I love Monaco for the history and iconicity but if the cars don't get smaller, it will continue to be the most boring Sunday all year.
I am glad though that Charles got his win while he still could.
I have to disagree on the "most boring" here. Now I am highly biased, but Monaco always stresses me out because of the narrow margin for error.
Races that were more boring than Monaco last year: Imola, Bahrain, Australia (there might be one more I am forgetting)
Not saying nothing happened during those races but those are races where overtaking was far more possible and still not much happened in the way of actual change of the order near the front. (that and two of these track layouts are not terribly interesting either)
Imola was just as dependent on qualifying as Monaco and yet people only have issue with Monaco.
At the very least Monaco is an interesting technical track, as opposed to the others. So I don't think it's a stand out boring race.
And I gotta say I don't think pit stops will make it more interesting. Things that might solve issues are actually making some modifications to the track/track layout which Monaco has been adamant about not doing. So I really don't think the over all race is going to be that different.
It's a nuanced track that some just don't have an appreciation for.
And I feel like I have seen a lot of "Monaco was boring aside from Charles winning and also the first lap" idk if you have to qualify the statement so much to make it sound boring then maybe it wasn't as boring as it's been made out to be.
I will say that yes I get the point about the car size. It's just something that isn't going to change much. Now I do think we need to push back against the idea that it's impossible to overtake in Monaco. It's possible and we have seen drivers do it in these cars. But I see where people are coming from on this. It's a similar issue with Imola being a track suited for smaller cars. I do feel like we may see a bit more action than anticipated 26 onward, but it really depends on how the drivers are feeling as well.

Ive gotten people who say that the Etho is the highlight of their day or that it makes them smile or that they get inspired from my art. around the time I started this account I was kinda just leaving highschool and getting into collage. I was frequently faced with the question “what do you want to do with your life?” And there are two answers; I want to create, and I want to make people happy. this account kinda helps me achieve that?? This sounds melodramatic but even if it’s small, minuscule even, it still makes me happy to know that im making others happy. Also people saying that my art is good really means a lot to me cause in art school it’s easy to tear yourself down and compare yourself to others (a habit im trying to break) So this helps me have a healthier view on my art.

Another mini update because I think I deserve to talk about this:
Tumblr media
I am changing game plans! I'm not sure if I've mentioned this but... The shell stitch is such a yarn eater. I have four rows of shells, but you actually don't see that there are about eight rows in this because there are intermittently small ones to set up the space for all the shells. These four rows have basically eaten up ninety percent of my skein of 210 yards (192 meters). My question is: should I make one more shell stitch row before transitioning into double crochet, or is four sufficient?
My new plan now is something like this: shell stitch four rows, double crochet until I reach the center of the tallit. The middle will be a few more rows of shells, then back to double crochet until I make it to the other side. I genuinely can't think of a worse idea that thirty-three inches (eighty-four centimeters) of solid white in shell stitch.
(Do note that my camera has completely altered the colors. It does this automatically and I hate it so much. These colors are so much richer and more interesting than how this camera decided to mess with it)

god i really want to sign up for a bad things happen bingo card and just like. write the messed up whump and h/c that my freaky (derogatory) little heart really wants lmaoooo, i haven't written h/c for the sake of h/c (aka without, like, turning it into a Fic) in so so so long, but also i have enough on my plate with ye olde trying to build a consistent writing habit with my mcspirk bingo card - which is more about writing stories for me lmao, and not just, like, me leaning over my keyboard in a dimly lit room rubbing my grubby little hands together as i hurt someone (leonard mccoy) and then let the people who love them kiss their forehead and comfort them.
but oh i was looking at the list of the prompts, and i was like, yeah, yeah i do actually want to let my h/c freak flag fly lmaoooooo
i know it's not a good idea because i do not want to let myself get overwhelmed and/or in over my head! but also. also. also. i still have le ongoing problem of wanting to turn everything into a capital-f Fic instead of just dashing off nonsense, like i'll dash off nonsense all day here lmaoooo, but when it comes to a story i want to??? this sounds so pretentious. i always want to write something??? Good???? i don't mean good writing or whateve,r i mean like a??? meaningful story??? (ugh so pretentious) (and to be clear i'm NOT saying i'm succeeding - only attempting!!!)
and the siren call of writing 1k about a cardboard cutout bad guy that has a knife to mccoy's throat while mccoy backtalks and kirk tries to bargain and mccoy is trying to hide the fact that he's already been stabbed in the side and spock has to carry him back once kirk shoots the bad guy??? listen. listen.
but also i do know myself and would i be Content with dashing off 1k nonsense or would i. still. the meaning. would i still the meaning. that's the question. the meaning. would i still.
am i looking at my neighbor's yard like wow that grass looks so green and takes no upkeep (probably), do i still want mccoy with a knife at his throat and jim's desperate eyes and steady voice and spock's steady eyes and the imperceptible tremble in his hands as he picks mccoy up from where he fell (absolutely)
i mean i could just get a card! it doesn't mean i have to write anything! (that's the devil speaking)
(the devil looks so hot tho)
(the devil's got them baby blues)

I just wanted to apologize to my classic whotuals for all the dead boy detectives spamming, but it's also important to me that you guys know two things:
a) I've become aware that a lot of what appeals to me about dead boy detectives is, on a kind of conceptual/thematic level, the same stuff that I love about my favorite eras of dr who, and 6b in particular
And I tell you this not as an advertising tactic but as a genuine PSA for anyone following me because:
b) Being me & having realized this, I know I'm definitely gonna wind up posting some unnecessarily long-winded analysis/comparison, pop it in the main tags for the sake of organization on my own blog, and subsequently confuse a hell of a lot of people there who either have no idea what I'm talking about or simply don't view either piece of media in the same light as I do to begin with
So I just wanted to reassure everyone that at least you're not suffering alone, as I will soon be inflicting the reverse bait-and-switch upon others!
That's all! continue w ur scrolling <3
#i hope this is clear but im REALLY not trying to be like coy or intriguing here#this post is not remotely intended to convince anyone to watch dead boy detectives on the grounds that it's similar to 60s who#in ways which i've conveniently failed to elaborate upon & so you'll just HAVE to go see for yourself#(firstly bc when i want to sing something's praises i will upfront & unapologetically)#(& secondly bc im not super into telling people to watch things in general unless they're actively seeking a rec)#honestly this (now very overhyped) future post of mine is going to be more about like#me recognizing i have A Type when it comes to stories/underpinning narrative backdrops in fiction (if thats not too pretentious)#and much less of a 'well if you like x then you'll definitely love y bc i do & we all enjoy things in the same way & for the same reasons'#and i find it funny that nobody will care - bc it'll incomprehensible to all but about 5 people who have the full context#& half of those 5 will probably still disagree w my perspective/interpretation of one or both -#but im gonna do it anyway bc what else am i supposed to do w these thoughts! keep them to myself??? dont be absurd#that said though if you are debating watching dbd and would like to chat about it to push yourself in one direction or another#im happy to do so! especially if you have questions about it in relation to some other shared interest you actually did follow me for lol#im always game for that sort of thing & yes i am of the opinion that its a good & fun & rich show all on its own

I love looking at the silmarillion (and to a lesser degree lotr) as a metahistorical text, not just because it’s a useful way to incorporate the inconsistencies in tolkien’s unpublished notes or because it justifies the reinterpretation of characters and events, but because it generates such a fascinating microcosm in to play with ideas of memory and textual agency. Although lotr is more explicitly a metafictional work, I find the ambiguity and pseudohistorical omniscient voice of the silmarillion to offer more interpretive space.
Part of what I find so interesting about Maglor as a character are is his role as a storyteller within The Narrative tm who choses to depart from it. Examining the Silmarillion as a composite of earlier texts complied by a later scholar (possibly Bilbo?), it logically follows that his work was among the sources. Maglor is then not externally silenced, but choses to silence himself by departing from the company of elves. Indeed, he is sometimes interpreted as falsely authoring his own demise within the bardic/literary canon of ME. A certain self awareness with the text adds dimension to his position as a character who very much knows that his actions are wrong, but proceeds anyway.
I see Daeron as occupying a similar role to a lesser extent , but that view is more heavily based in headcanon and oc interactions, which are of course not textually supported.
